Introduction:

This is not a port. Forget everything you know about ports of classic games. This is a completely new game and standard, rebuild with a new game engine specifically designed for modern consoles and systems, designed to run flawlessly with HD TV’s updated with all the delights the modern age can bring. Sonic CD has raised the bar for what classic titles should be.

Sonic CD is still the same classic title you may remember from the days of the Mega CD, but treat this as a new game made specifically for the modern day. The game has 12 trophies and several other secret extras. So what are you waiting for! Go save the planet before it’s too late!

Special Thanks

Soniczone0.com - Without their amazing Sonic guides, this guide could not have been possible.

Trophy Notes:

The following actions can prevent trophies from being unlocked:

• Playing the game as Tails.

• Using Debug mode.

• Using Stage select.

•Using any other cheats

Missable Trophies

Almost every trophy in the game is missable in that the moment you beat a zone, you have to restart the whole game until you reach that specific zone again in order to get that trophy. For trophies like Saviour of the Planet you will have to get every robot teleporter on every zone again until you get to the one you missed. Ensure you use a guide or a visual aid when mentioned in the trophy.

Why 3 playthroughs?

According to users over at The Sonic Stadium forums, one trophy cancels the other out, Saviour of the Planet cannot be unlocked if you get all the Time Stones (Treasure Hunter) and vice versa.

This has now been confirmed by Flames.

The third playthrough is the time travel mode, which forces the player to replay every stage and boss fight, hence it being an entire playthrough.

Ah but I did it in 2 playthroughs!

Yes you did, well done for taking the harder method. You can get all time stones and destroy all the robot generators in one playthrough, then you'll just be left with the time attack trophy.

You can destroy the generators and holograms then start collecting time stones so that the last one you get is on Metallic Madness Act 2. However, doing this is much harder than simply dedicating one playthrough to the time stones, not to mention, finding 50 rings in the later stages of the game and keeping them is a very hard task.

Unless you want a much harder challenge, you are much better off just doing one run dedicated to the time stones, then a second for the robot generators/holograms. For new players to the game, attempting to do only two runs is not advisable due to the restrictions you place on yourself for the Special Stages.

Walkthrough:

In this road map and guide, I will be referencing a website known as Zone: 0 a lot. Why? Because it’s by far the best guide anywhere for Sonic CD, it contains full colour maps, detailed walkthroughs and advice for beating the game. Whilst it was written for the Mega CD/Sonic Gems collection version of the game, its advice still applies and the information there will help you get 100% on this game. Please use it when directed in this guide as the stage maps will become vital for specific trophies.

Step 1: Time Stone Run

Use this playthrough to focus on getting 50 rings by the time you reach the end of zones 1 & 2 in each act, when you enter the special stage concentrate on beating it (see guide for more information). Chances are you will unlock most trophies during this initial run by accident, no need to go out of your way to go for too many missable trophies as you’ll be doing a lot of looking for your second run (Good Future Run).

For now, concentrate on simply beating Acts 1 and 2 with 50 rings and beating every special stage. Remember to quit the game if you reach the end without 50 rings and reload, or quit the special stage if you think you’re about to fail it. There are more chances to get into a special stage then there are special stages so you have more than enough opportunities to get all Time Stones.

By doing this you should unlock Treasure Hunter all story mode trophies and chances are several other missable trophies by accident.

Step 2: Good Future Run & Cleanup

First of all, use the Sonic CD guide at Zone: 0 for maps on each zone, this will give you the exact location of all robot teleporters, holograms, time travel posts and even hidden objects/paths for other trophies. It will also allow you to plan your route both back in time and to the target objects.

During this run, you are going out of your way to look for objects as opposed to carefully beating each zone with 50 rings intact. You should also use this as your clean up run too, try getting all missable trophies such as King of the Rings, Take the High Road & Heavy Metal. Remember, this pretty much a collectables type of run, taking time or finishing with a lot of rings doesn’t really matter so treat this as you would a cleanup run.

Step 3: Time Attack

Time Attack is a separate mode which is a lot easier than you may think, you should be very familiar with the game and it’s stages, most of the time it’s just a case of heading to the lowest path and holding up + jump in order to do the charged speed dash move.

See the trophy guide for more information as to how to get this one.

Step 4: Final Clean Up

In the unlikely event you are missing a trophy, now is the time to go back for another playthrough and get it. Chances are the only you are missing is King of the Rings and maybe statue saviour. However, if you treated your ‘good future’ run as a full collectables run, you should have 100%.

Trophy Guide:

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1172/CBC.jpg

88 Miles per Hour(B)

Travel through time

This trophy is missable.

In zones 1 & 2 of each act there are signposts which will say “Past” or “Future” on it, when you run past one you’ll hear a voice say either “Past” or “Future,” you need to run to such a speed that you see white stars appear on Sonic, after a short duration of time you’ll break the time barrier and travel either to the past or future.

You should get this in Palmtree Panic Zone 1 without any problems at all, but for further information as to where you can get time travel opportunities, please see the Sonic CD guide held at Zone:0

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1172/93B.jpg

Just one hug is enough (B)

Get a hug from Amy

This trophy is missable

This can be done in two places. Either Palmtree Panic Zone 1 (the present) or at the end of Stardust Speedway Zone 3 (state of the future doesn’t matter). When you see Amy, just stand perfectly still, Amy will then grab you and you’ll see love hearts coming from her, (make sure you’re facing away from her in order for her to hug you). If you miss her in Palmtree Panic, you will meet her again in Stardust Speedway Zone 3.

This trophy is technically missable. You cannot get it in time attack mode, and the Stardust Speedway encounter can in fact be missed. When you free Amy in Stardust Speedway, if you stand directly below her, jump directly up and then stand perfectly still, Amy will not hug you. You need to move away from the area directly below her so she'll run hug you. Thanks to Yamatadragon for discovering that one.

Note Amy will not hug you at the start of Collision Chaos.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1172/C95.jpg

Paradise Found (B)

Complete a zone in the Good Future

This trophy is missable.

There are 3 ways to do this.

1: In Zone 1 of any stage, go back to the past and destroy both the robot teleport machine (it's a machine that has electricity running between it) and the Metal Sonic hologram machine. Then finish the zone. When Zone 2 starts, go back in time again and destroy this zone's Metal Sonic hologram and robot teleporter machine, then beat the zone. When you finish Zone 3 it will say “Sonic made a good future in Zone 3” which will prompt the trophy.

2: Collect all the time stones, then proceed to beat Zone 3 of any stage. Upon collecting all the time stones, you will automatically get good futures in all Zone 3 stages.

3: "Travel to the past in Zone 1 or 2, destroy hologram and generator, then travel to the present, then finally travel to the future and finish the stage." --- Sobol14

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1172/117.jpg

Take the High Road (B)

Pass the upper Signpost in Collision Chaos Zone 2

When you reach Zone 2, you need to stay on the highest path and beat the zone via the highest flag. You can do it in any time line and with any of the future outcomes. Please see the map which can be found on Zone: 0’s walkthrough of the stage.

In the half pipe just before the end, head down to the bottom of it and face back up the wall (away from the direction of the spring that pops up), hold  + :cross: to charge a speed dash (Super Peel Out), once you head up the wall and begin to fall hold  and you’ll get into a ball, you will then head directly up and hit a red spring. This will propel you to the other side of the half pipe, again hold  to get into the ball. You’ll then have enough momentum to make it to the top part of this zone. Simply walk through the flag to get the trophy.

Here is a video which shows you one way of getting to the higher path if you happen to be stuck on the lower path.

Note: You can get Take the High Road trophy while playing the stage in Time Attack (if you don't want to start new game for it). --- Sobol14

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1172/162.jpg

King of the Rings (S)

Collect 200 Rings

This trophy is missable.

You need to have 200 rings on you at any one time (not including special stages). You can do this on any Zone so long as you travel to different time periods, however a much easier method of getting it is explained by Yamatadragon

Use the Angel Statue in Wacky Workbench 1. When you touch the statue, it will shoot rings out of its hand. Collect as many of the rings as you can then leave. Return to the statue and it'll give out more rings. Repeat until you have 200 rings.

For information on where to find the statue, see the "Statue Saviour" trophy below.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1172/C17.jpg

Statue Saviour (B)

Find the angel statue in Wacky Workbench

This trophy is missable.

You need to go to the past In Wacky Workbench Zone 1. (see Zone: 0 for the best locations to time travel and even the statues location). When you stand in front of the statue it will give you rings, trophy should pop in the middle of the ring distribution.

The statue is located at the bottom of the stage about a quarter of the way through it, if you start the stage and stay on the bottom, the first impassable tower you get to, the statue is directly below it, the entrance to it is on the other side. But use either Zone:0’s maps or this video guide for a visual aid.

Heavy Metal (B)

Defeat Metal Sonic without getting hurt

This is arguably the hardest trophy in the game. You cannot get hit by anything, stage hazards or Metal Sonic. You will need to practice the stage a number of times in order to learn where the hazards are. But Metal Sonic's attacks can be predicted.

If you are in front of him, he will always use his Maximum Overdrive (yellow) attack; this attack will always outrun you unless you are extremely far ahead. If you are behind him, he will use a much slower Ring Spark Field (red) attack, you can easily charge a Super Peel Dash ( + :cross: ) and jump over him to get some distance when he does this move.

There are platforms above you which you can use that are safe, but if you are unfamiliar with the game you may find it hard to reach them.

At around the halfway stage, Eggman will increase in speed, if his laser hits you, it's instant death.

Just keep practicing, eventually you’ll get it, it’s a bit of a practice and learn experience as opposed to ‘there is a method to guarantee you it’ kind of level.

See this run for one possible route to take.

Should you not be able to do this in the main game, you can get it in Time Attack.

Treasure Hunter (G)

Collect all the Time Stones

This trophy is missable.

Important Note: If you fail to get a timestone by the time you reach Metallic Madness Zone 3, you will need to restart the entire game again, and complete every single special stage again until you get them all.

To get a Time Stone, you need to beat either Zone 1 or Zone 2 of any Zone with 50 rings and jump through the giant ring shortly after the stage flag.

When you enter a special stage, your task is to jump into the UFOs, when all UFOs are destroyed you are rewarded with a time stone.

And it’s very hard. Even if you had the original on the Mega CD or the Sonic Gems Collection remake, this new version is far harder, the UFOs move faster than ever before; you will fail some stages.

For people not familiar with this game, here are some points to remember.

• Avoid the water, jumping in the water speeds up the clock and will result in failing the stage faster. Avoid water hazards like the plague.

• There are two types of UFOs the yellow ones give 10 rings, the white ones give you a temporary speed boost.

• When you begin to run out of time you’ll hear a strange sound effect and a third (red) UFO will appear, destroying this will give you a time bonus. You do not need to destroy the red/time UFO in order to beat the stage but it will give you an additional 30 seconds to your time when destroyed.

• There are a variety of hazards in the special stage which can slow you down (sometimes it’s beneficial to use them), some which will cause you to jump and even fly for a short while, you can destroy UFOs when you are in the flying/glide animation.

• Trying to get 50 rings in Metallic Madness is extremely hard! Let alone beating the stage with 50 rings! Try to get all the time stones before you get to this Zone at all costs!

Save trick: If it looks like you’re going to fail the stage, pause the game and select ‘main menu’ you’ll quit the game and then reload, you will be able to start the stage again from the beginning.

Dr. Eggman Got Served (B)

Destroy Dr. Eggman's final machine

Story Related, cannot be missed.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1172/7D9.jpg

Just in Time! (S)

Complete the Time Attack mode in under 25 minutes

Time Attack is a separate mode in the game, you need to get a total time for it of fewer than 25 min. This is not as hard as you may think, it may take a few tries but you can do this without much problem. Try using youtube to find various speed runs, there’s a lot which do not use any glitches or require much effort from you. A lot of the time it’s just stick to the bottom path and use the charge speed dash.

Other than practicing, either use youtube for speedrun guides, or look at the maps at Zone: 0 and plan your run. All time travel sign posts are removed from this mode, and you are only given 1 life in which to beat the stage.

My collective times for each zone/act were as follows.

Palmtree Panic: 2’01’07

Collusion Chaos: 3’52’03

Tidal Tempest: 4’07’79

Quartz Quadrant: 2’49’36

Wacky Workbench: 3’06’62

Stardust Speedway: 2’55’25

Metallic Madness: 5’43’74

Total: 24’35’86

All those times are beatable by a long way, so don’t worry if yours is sitting at something like 27’59’99, you can do it! You do not need to do the special stage time trial mode in order to get this.

The following links are to videos showing speedruns of each stage. I have attempted to find videos that do not use glitches or demand a high level of skill from a player. You should by watching them have a better understanding as to which paths are the quickest. However you may have problems with Stardust Speedway as due to the design of those Zones it's very easy to get lost or go down the 'wrong' path.

(It is possible to beat this boss in less than 40 seconds.)

(This run uses a glitch but you can see the non glitch path under the one the player takes)

Saviour of the Planet (S)

Destroy all the robot teleporters and Metal Sonic holograms in the past

This trophy is missable.

You need to travel to the past in Zones 1 & 2 on every act in order to get this. The robot teleporters are the machines which have electricity running between them, the Metal Sonic holograms are... well exactly what they sound like. They are all hidden in places that you can access at any point in the stage, no stage has a point of no return until you hit the end flag.

The best way to do this is to use stage maps, you can find them more or less anywhere online, just google the stage that you want and you’ll find them. Alternatively, Zone:0 has an amazing guide for Sonic CD which has full colour maps for all the stages in their past and present form and locations of all the teleporters and Metal Sonic holograms.

Trophy will pop the moment the last teleporter in Metallic Madness is destroyed.

Note: If you miss one on any stage and then progress to the next level, you will need to restart the entire game again!

Note 2: There are no Metal Sonic Holograms in Metallic Madness Zone 1 or 2, but there are robot teleporters.

Note 3: Getting all time stones will make getting this trophy impossible.

Note 4: There is only 1 robot teleporter and 1 hologram in every 'past' segment of a zone. If you destroy the robot teleporter all badniks in that stage will vanish (in the past), destroy the hologram and the stage will fill with animals.

Note 5:

Below are the video Locations for Robot Teleporters/Metal Sonic Holograms.

Another way to get "King of the Rings" is using the Angel Statue in Wacky Workbench 1. When you touch the statue, it will shoot rings out of its hand. Collect as many of the rings as you can then leave. Return to the statue and it'll give out more rings. Repeat until you have 200 rings. The method I use to take the upper goal in Collision Chaos 2 is to stand in that half-pipe and face the wall. Super Peel Out up the wall holding Left the entire time until Sonic goes too high. When he starts to descend, I hold down so that he curls into a ball and it gives me enough momentum to go through the spring and just press right to get on the ledge where the upper goal is located.

Oh cool! Just tried this myself, wasn't sure if it generated that many rings but you're right it does, super I'll add that to the guide since it's a better/easier method.

Thanks!

Don't need to use those springs.

The first time I tried it, I did exactly that, only when I came back down the half pipe, I didn't have quite enough speed to make it, so I hit the spring which gave me a higher drop down point to make it.

Not sure it matters too much since people attempting it will most likely move to the right the moment they see the ledge if they've build up enough speed.

Just so you know, an user on Youtube called saburoinc3 did a video guide for finding all the robot generators and Metal Sonic holograms on Youtube. These vids really helped me out a lot. Figured I'd put them in a spoiler tag to avoid an unnecessarily long post.

Reserved in the unlikely event of DLC (Desert Dazzle/Final Fever Zone...) & Additional notes/guides.

Please let me know if I've missed anything/made a mistake or if theres a better solution to something.

Also need additional confirmation if getting the trophy Treasure Hunter before saviour of the Planet prevets it from being unlocked.

I can confirm it, if you get all Stone Gems then its impossible to get the Saviour of the Planet trophy

All the machines are destroyed once you get in the past, the Metal Sonic holagrams are still there but the machines arent, i tried to finish with all Metal Sonic Holagrams once i got all the Stones and no trophy

If I want to go for Saviour of the Planetafter getting all the time zones, do I need to delete the save file via the XMB? I tried starting a new file in game (from the four available slots), and the machines were already destroyed.

Thanks, I'm not sure about adding all the videos since the guide could become much longer than it needs to be, but I'll think about it. I did try to add links to Zone: 0 for the collectables since the stage maps are actually better for finding collectables in a Sonic game than watching a video, with a map you can reference where the object is much quicker than a video, but I'll think about it.

You can get Take the High Road trophy while playing the stage in Time Attack (if you don't want to start new game for it).

Nice, I'll add that.

Thought this game would be much more difficult than it is, but after one solid session with the game I only need to do a couple more stages to finish Time Attack and get the Saviour of the Planet! trophy.

Such a fantastic game. I'm a massive Sonic fan and the addiction began with the Mega Drive games. Remember seeing reviews of Sonic CD all the way back in '93 but I didn't have a Mega CD and nor did anybody I knew, so crappy emulator versions aside I've had to wait 18 years to play and complete it!

Great conversion too, shame the other Sonic games on the store didn't get the same love and attention.

Thanks for the guide, no doubt it'll help in locating the machines for 'Saviour of the Planet!'

Can you save anywhere like the other sonic games?

because then surely this is a 1/10...

No, you can't. It does save between levels though.

But if you miss something level-specific or won't collect all the Time Stones by the time you get to the last level, you will need to start the whole game over.

You can get all the time stones and robot generators in one play-through. You just need to make sure the you get the last time stone in Metallic Madness Act 2 after you have destroyed the last generator in the game (since the trophy pops up after you destroy the last generator).

Done it yesterday. Found it rather easy. Only tough thing was getting into the past in Wacky Workbench Act 1! Oh and getting all the times under 25 minutes was a little hard. Much harder is the special stages under 4 minutes, I only did that out of pure fluke on the last special stage (ended up doing it in half a minute).

Yeah I had a feeling that would work. Although doing it that way could actually be much harder than doing one run for the stones and then a second for the generators.

It took me a long time to get 50 rings in Metallic Madness act 2, let alone keeping them, this also means that once you start a stage, you absolutely cannot fail it and need to be on the ball when you think you'll fail, if you don't hit pause quickly enough, you've just wasted all that work.
