If you have never played it before, then go right ahead and buy it. Sonic Adventure (and SA2) are the best Sonic 3D games to date.

its 1555 mb btw for people who are interested

edit: ouch. didnt know dreamcast was an improved sega. i guess i never see it because a was very little and going to school. (i think i miss alot from games when i was young)

or maybe it was because i was not interested in other consoles because i had a ps1 in that year. (i think i had i forgot the release of ps1)

DON'T BUY IT!!

For the love of God don't buy it!

I've been waiting here in the UK all day to buy it and it's horrible. It's a complete disaster on all levels. Do a trophy sync with me if you want to check I have downloaded it. I got all the way upto Chaos 4 boss fight as Sonic before I gave up.

These are just some points I made over at a Sonic fansite just a moment ago.

The Introduction movie is such poor quality that at times it looks like a blurred mess, at points it's completely unwatchable.

The new menus are look like they were made by a child in Microsoft Paint who has no thumbs.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Hogfather8472/screenofcrap.jpg

That blue thing you see is the boarder because the game will not stretch to fit widescreen. It will give you a headache after 10 min of playing.

The camera is actually worse than the DC and GC version, I really don't remember it being this bad.

At points the PS3's controls don't seem to respond correctly if even at all. This is very noticable when trying to perform slight alterations in turning during the high speed moments on the first stage (wall run areas). This is very noticable in the second stage Windy Valley when trying to do a homing attack, it either misses the target completely or doesn't have the range to hit the target, despite being able to in the DC and Gamecube version....

During Windy Valley Sonic descides he's no longer going to follow the scripted windy path and falls off the stage... despite holding down the run button.

These are all complaints from the ice cap stage....

* Sonic won't grab onto the iceicles.

* Sonics homing attack does not destroy ANYTHING (except that pink badnik that shoots fire).

* It is impossible to kill one badnik without taking a hit yourself.

* The camera zooms in so close to Sonic on the first set of iceicles that it's impossible to know which direction you jump off in unless you've played the game before.

* The snowboarding section has almost zero control.

After the Chaos 4 fight theres a cut scene with the Egg Carrier... it was worse in quality to the intro to such an extent at points it wasn't clear what was going on.

Other complaints from people on the same forum would be...

Just got done in the Casino. The camera is absolutely terrible and worse than I remember it being on Dreamcast and Gamecube and the dark blue boarder strains my eyes. These things combined have given me a massive headache. I can't believe they didn't add proper camera controls to the second analogue, the shoulder button controls just don't help. I agree with Gnasher, that the intro's quality is terrible. General controls I haven't had too much problems with, but the analogue directional controls could be a lot more precise.

Now, excuse me while I take some paracetamol.

The right analogue and shoulder buttons control the camera the same as the Xbox 360, but it's not good enough in my opinion. It would have been better if they fixed the right analogue to control the camera that you actually need to use, not the zoom in and gaze the view camera. The shoulder buttons controlling the main camera are basically useless. My main problem is that the games automatic camera goes all over the place and combined with the border, literally hurts my eyes and gives me a headache. The games main controls aren't much of a problem to me, but the camera is just terrible.

If you've not got it yet, Don't buy! Avoid it... if you have bought it like I have... at least we don't need to waste money with the DX DLC pack.

this is a direct port with absolutely no improvements. but still good game very good. don't compare to games now a days. it just lije ps1 classics. just modified to play on the ps3. when the DX version came out on the gamecube of a game from the previous generation it was well done. so this the same as the gamecube version. go to wikipedia to read about the deference between the original and DX versions. good improvements. i love it, i'm getting the dlc. just because you don't like it doesn't mean others won't. i didn't experience any of that stuff at all.

Whose comparing it to a modern day title? I'm comparing it to something that you could actually play on your PS3 without resorting to violence. I've got both the DC and GC versions so I know what the differnences are thanks.

Anyway heres a hands on review from another person on that fansite I visit who downloaded both the XBL and PSN version.

Yeaaaaah I just got my hands on the PSN version (I have an Xbox, and there's no way I would have downloaded it twice) Uh, something's really wrong.

I'm a little confused, becase as far as I'm aware, barring the obvious GUI changes they've had to make for the controllers, etc, both versions of the game (read: PSN and XBLA) should be the PC incarnation, which I own and was fine. I happily downloaded the Xbox version the afternoon it was released on XBLA and barring a few missing special effects and only a few minor camera issues (I mean on top of the issues that game already even had. And having played Sonic Adventure a few thousand times by now, I know which ones are new ones, as would anyone else who's played these as long as I have) but the PSN version somehow feels worse. The camera is doubly awful, the controls do not respond in the correct manner and even has input lag in places. I personally lost my patience with it, but I did finish the XBLA version. I personally feel sorry for Jenny (my friend) as she's bought it for her PSN and thinks she won't have the patience to finish it. I just don't understand how they can differ so much.

Graphically, there are a few bits and pieces missing in both versions, but nothing you miss too much; graphically it seems like low-spec graphics card material (again, played enough to tell the difference) Just... Augh. I don't know if any other PSN users can confirm this for me, but if the PSN version of the game had a face, I would punch it. Possibly tolerable if you're a very, very die hard fan, can't find your Gamecube version anymore, or are under some kind of sedative.

Then I remembered something! I wonder if it's had anything to do with attuning the Playstation's controls to the PC version. If anything else, on the PC version, the wired Xbox controller worked perfectly fine (doesn't explain missing/low res graphics though. The PC version didn't really skimp on that one. Though I imagine that had something to do with download size) as it used the Xbox for Windows driver, so I suppose Microsoft always had that working in their favour) but PSN's version... Dear lord. It's just so amazingly unresponsive.

Sounds like it's pretty crap in all areas to me.

If you don't mind SEGA (excuse me, I mean S€GA, I'll stop when people stop with Micro$oft) milking the hell out of you, go right ahead. $15 to get a complete version of a game that's maybe worth $7 or $8 at the most... Bad deal if you ask me.

Plus it's completely predictable that S€GA not only failed to improve any of the minor annoyances of the original version, but instead added more.

Uk pricing I got it for £6.29 in totals in at 1.5GB in file size download speed at moment is sluggish because of maintence and my ISP is mucking around with the network.

I enjoyed S.A on Dreamcast when I had a console too be honest I wish I never sold mine, now just give me Skies of Arcadia (GameCube version) PowerStone and Phantasy Star Online 1 & 2 via the FREE PSN network that would rock and so many fans would come flooding back.

wel its a good game (i downloaded it yesterday) but i feeling my sick in my stumach if i play it. i always almost played 2d sonics and these where awesome. (on sega) i only played 3d flickies and then i got my first ps1 for christmas (years ago). the reason because i feel sick in stumach is because i goes so fast (if you run fast) and i have the feeling the camera angle isnt so good. i have the feeling i sitting in a heavy attraction in disneylang paris. but for the rest this game is oke.
