Introduction:

Smash Cars is an arcade racer centred around small RC cars. It's your typical racing game, consisting of Race, Time Attack and Knockout game modes as well as boost powerups which you can use to get ahead.

There are three types of vehicles you can use, “Monster”, “Buggy” and “Sport”. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, however as the AI are rubberbanded and also select the same class as you, it doesn't really matter which of these vehicles you choose to race with. Personally, I preferred the Sport vehicles as they are fast and capable of reaching the lap times required for the Race Ace trophy.

Step 1: Complete all 12 levels with a gold medal.

Just play the game, and familiarise yourself with the tracks, vehicles and executing air tricks. Once you finish the 12 levels, all vehicles will be unlocked so you can then concentrate on obtaining the miscellaneous trophies.

After this step you will have achieved:

(B) Bronze Champion

(S) Silver Champion

(G) Gold Champion

Step 2: Earn the required Base Lap and Race Times.

This is the hardest part of the game, but if you have some experience with racing games, you shouldn't have too much of a problem. The “Sport – Cheetah” is the fastest vehicle in the game and is therefore the best car to use, however be aware that it is very fragile so you can't afford to crash. Remember to make use of the shortcuts and your boost.

After this step you will have achieved:

(B) Race Ace

(B) Lap Champ

Step 3: Miscellaneous trophies clean-up.

Here you will want to find all the shortcuts, finish every race without respawning, collect 270 stars and earn any remaining trophies that you don't have yet. Most should have come naturally, but if not, then now is the time to go for them.

Now you will achieve:

(B) Demolition Master

(B) Air Time Expert

(B) Star Collector

(B) Trickster

(B) Smash Cars Superstar

(S) Smart Driver

(S) Safe Driver

Trophy Guide:

Hit 15 objects in any single player level (original content). You must earn a bronze medal or higher in order to unlock the trophy.

To earn this trophy, you simply need to hit 15 moveable objects in a single player level. You can tell when a hit has registered when the words “SMASH” or “CRUNCH” appear on the screen in yellow and red letters respectively. You should get this without trying, but remember that you will need to earn a bronze medal at least. If by any chance you don't get this trophy naturally, either of the beach levels are the easiest to obtain it on, as they contain plentiful objects to hit.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/194/05.jpg Air Time Expert (B)

Get 75 seconds of air in any single player level (original content). You must earn a bronze medal or higher in order to unlock the trophy.

To earn this trophy, you need to achieve a total of 75 seconds air time in any single player level. This is a lot easier on one of the longer tracks (I recommend the “Tunnels” track which is on the “Highway” championship.) If you’re struggling to earn the 75 seconds, then just keep front flipping while on a straight (Jump and hold forward - :cross: ) Remember that when you’re coming onto a jump, you can press :cross: to jump higher and gain greater air time.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/194/06.jpg Star Collector (B)

Accumulate 270 stars in single player mode using your best score from each level (original content).

There are 12 single player levels in which you must earn a cumulative total of 270 stars. On average, that equates to 22.5 stars per level. Some of the earlier races are really short and you probably won’t get more than 15. However, the “Highway” championship races are a lot bigger, resulting in a possible 50 or 60 available stars. To earn stars, you need to execute air tricks (see “Trickster” for details on how to perform air tricks.)

Note that you will need to earn at least a bronze medal for these stars to count towards your total, so you can’t just get 100 stars on a level and come last.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/194/07.jpg Trickster (B)

Complete 15 air tricks in any single player level (original content). You must earn a bronze medal or higher in order to unlock the trophy.

To complete an air trick, you must execute a front flip, back flip or side flip (or a combination of these). To do this, you must have sufficient air space and with the left analog stick, move forward, backwards or sideways. I recommend doing front flips as they are considerably less risky than the others. While in the air, you should also hold the handbrake and push the analog stick diagonally to perform more complex tricks which in turn earns greater stars. For a trick to count towards this trophy, you need to earn at least 1 star for it. You will know you have earned these stars if you see the words “good flip” appear on the screen. Do 15 of these tricks in one level whilst earning a bronze medal or higher and the trophy is yours.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/194/08.jpg Lap Champ (B)

Beat all base lap times in every single player level (original content).

See “Race Ace”

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/194/09.jpg Race Ace (B)

Beat all base race times in every single player level (original content).

This is one of the hardest trophies in the game - you will need to beat all of the base lap times in every single player level. To do this, you will need to be quick, consistent and able to utilise shortcuts effectively. Personally, I used the “Sport – Cheetah” vehicle, as it's the fastest in the game and although it's weak, it provides the best chance at obtaining this trophy. If you want to see exactly which times you need to beat, go to “Single Player” and then press :square: under “Track Info.” I recommend saving all your boost for one lap if you are going for “Lap Champ”.

To see where the shortcuts for each track are located, please refer to the description for “Smart Driver.”

Below are the times you will need to beat and what I was able to achieve (shown in brackets.)

Beach Championship:

Hopper:

Base lap time – 35.00 (33.63)

Base race time – 1:50.00 (1:42.91)

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/194/10.jpg Smash Cars Superstar (B)

Get 30 stars in one single player level (original content). You must earn a bronze medal or higher in order to unlock the trophy.

You need to get 30 or more stars while earning a bronze medal to earn this trophy. This isn’t hard and will likely come while going for “Star Collector.”

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/194/11.jpg Smart Driver (S)

Find all the shortcuts in every single player level (original content). You must earn bronze medals or higher in order to unlock the trophy.

Shortcuts are hidden alternative routes on the game that allow you to gain a lead on the AI and improve your lap times. To see how many shortcuts you’ve found in each track, go to the track selector and press :square: - under “Player Statistics,” you will see “Shortcuts Found.”

Please note that the races “Hopper”, “Hornboor” and “Circle” tracks do not contain any shortcuts. Below is a playlist showing where each of the shortcuts are located.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8C18E4E9A49BF1BA

Thanks to AdamOfTime from YouTube.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/194/12.jpg Safe Driver (S)

Complete all single player levels without crashing or using any respawns (original content).

To earn this trophy, you need to complete every level without respawning. You will know when you have respawned if you see the word “CRASH” appear on screen. Driving into water or going out of bounds also counts as a respawn. Please note that in the Knockout challenges, you cannot simply stay idle until you are eliminated, as this won’t count. You actually need to win on these events.

To see how many respawns you’ve used, press :square: on the Track Selection screen and under “Player Statistics,” you’ll see “Respawns Used.” This figure will need to be at zero for each track.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/194/01.jpg Bronze Champion (B)(H)

Earn a bronze medal, or better, in every single player level (original content).

See "Gold Champion"

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/194/02.jpg Silver Champion (S)(H)

Earn a silver medal, or better, in every single player level (original content).

See "Gold Champion"

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/194/03.jpg Gold Champion (G)(H)

Earn a gold medal in every single player level (original content).

You need to win every race, get the fastest time in Time Attack and win each Knockout challenge to earn all of the Gold medals in the game. If you go for “Race Ace,” this should not prove to be too much of a problem. All of the Time Attack critera for Gold medals are slower than what you need for “Race Ace,” and the AI are rubber banded so if you go fast, they will but they'll also slow down a little if you do.

Personally, the vehicles I used were:

Monster – Puncher

Monster – Hotshot (Once unlocked)

Buggy – Bullet (Once unlocked)

Sport – Cheetah (Once unlocked)

The Monster vehicles are slow but good on rough ground, Buggys are the all rounder and Sports are very fast but not great on rough ground. Choose a car that best suits your playing style, as it's possible to win every event using any of the cars.

Some tips for 'Lap Champ' and 'Race Ace':

- Jump over objects, don't ram them.

- Shortcuts aren't always the fastest way.

- Do short boosts, tap :circle:. It's otherwise possible you go into an uncontrollable spin.

Good luck!

Thanks for main guide on this hidden gem. Really feel the dlc guide needs more info.

Thanks! I've just seen your post in the DLC part, but I won't be able to help as I never bought it :(

It's actually been like 2 and a half years since I've played this, but I remember it being really quite fun too :D

I still cannot get the regular tracks to come up for me in the virus run. The trophies are not attainable based on my problem. If you know of anyone who can help, let me know.
