Introduction

Downpour is the lastest title in the silent hill series. The title follows Murphy Pendleton through a lookback at his life as only Silent Hill can, in other words, as disturbingly as possible, revealing his past secrets. Murphy, an inmate, begins his quest to & through Silent Hill after his prison transport bus crashes, leaving him lost and trying to find a way out of the area. As he progresses forward, he eventually reaches the infamous town of Silent Hill. Soon after he arrives, he realizes that something is truly not right and someone or something knows more about him than they should. I believe the game itself is a huge step forward in the series which has lost ground over it's previous entries. While the main story itself is short for the most part and the game has some flaws (choppiness being a huge one at points), it includes alot of extras that help extend the lifespan of the title through collectibles & side quests. If you are fan of Silent Hill series, survivor horror titles, or a fairly straight forward/easier type platinum, then this game is definitely for you!

Walkthrough

You will need to do a set of three playthroughs minimum to complete the game. I will list them in the order that I did them in and what to aim for in them (although you can switch up parts 1 & 3 if you want and/or do some of the trophies suggested during those runs in other ones if you choose). For all of the playthroughs, make sure that as soon as you are able to do the "All Points Bulletin" side quest you should do so even if you have the trophy for it as it makes exploring MUCH easier.

Playthrough 1: Easy Difficulty/Easy Puzzles

During this playthrough you are going to aim to get the follow:

  • All the story related trophies
  • Side Quest trophies (minus "Useless Trinkets")
  • All the monster killing/incapacitated trophies
  • Ending A & C trophies (make sure you incapacitate more monsters than you kill and make good selections when presented with them)
  • Collect all the mysteries
  • Obtain Fight or Flight?, Stay of Execution, Gun Control & Hypochondriac

After you finish this run through, you should have all of the trophies except the platinum (obviously), 3 of the ending ones (hidden), Useless Trinkets, Good Behavior & the 2 hard difficulty ones. If you are missing any others, make sure to aim for those in one of the following playthroughs.

Playthough 2: Easy Difficulty/Easy Puzzles

During this playthrough your main goals are to get the Useless Trinkets, Good Behavior & Ending E trophies. It's best to do this on easy/easy as mentioned as you can run through it a lot faster and it makes it easier to avoid enemies as it gets annoying not being able to kill anything, so you will probably take more damage for that reason (and with easy difficulty, you will take less, so you won't need a ton of medkits).

Playthrough 3: Hard Difficulty/Hard Puzzle

This last playthrough should be for the only 4 remaining trophies you should have left at this point (other than the plat): Ending B, Ending D, Capital Punishment & Puzzle Master (If you are missing another trophies still, then aim for them during this playthrough so you don't have to do another run through afterwards). During this run you want to make sure that you kill anything that you end up fighting and make bad decisions when presented with them as this will lead to the ending trophies. The hard difficulties really doesn't make things horribly harder, it's just mainly how much damage you take and re-arranges where to find some items and gives you less hints. If you get stuck with any of the puzzles, you can always check the link included with the trophy descriptions in the TG for help with some of them that include solutions to all levels of difficulty.

After you complete those 3 playthroughs, you should have the trophies, but if for some reason you do not, you will need to redo another playthrough and aim for them then. After that, enjoy the platinum!

All of the trophies outside of the difficulty & story related trophies ARE MISSABLE! Please Note The Following Two Things Regarding Them:

1) For any of the trophies listed as MISSABLE in the Trophy Guide, they are this way because they MUST be achieved in a single playthrough! Stats for kills/incapacitates, healing kits, mysteries, & side quests completed do NOT carry over from one playthrough to the next! The only thing that carries over is if you completed the game previously or not!

2) There is a point of no return in the game that once you reach it, you can't go back and do certain things (Ex: Side quests and certain collectibles)! If you wish to know where that is, check the spoiler box below:

Spoiler

As soon as you use the key to board the boat, it will take you to a cut scene and when it is over, you will be at the final location of the game with no way to come back to town to do anything you missed!

A2F.jpg Silent is Golden trophy_silver.png  **Missable Trophy**

Killed or incapacitated 10 Screamers.

Screamers are one of the most common enemies in the game and are the first enemies you will encounter in the game as well. They are the monsters that look like sirens/women and "scream" at your causing you cover your ears and become "paralyzed" for a little bit until you shake it off. For the trophy, you just need to kill (they stop moving and then disintegrate) or incapacitate (they lay on the ground twitching and don't get back up) 10 of them. This should be extremely easy as there is WAY more than 10 that you will encounter. If for some reason you are having problems with this one, just search the streets of Silent Hill until you find some. After you kill/incapacitate your 10th one, the trophy will pop!

F53.jpg Shadow Boxer trophy_silver.png  **Missable Trophy**

Killed or incapacitated 10 Dolls.

Dolls are the mannequin enemies that send out "invisible" versions of themselves that can only be seen in the UV light to attack you. You will encounter them about half-way through the game. For the trophy, you just need to kill (they stop moving and then disintegrate) or incapacitate (they lay on the ground twitching and don't get back up) 10 of them. You will encounter more than 10 of them, but make sure that you kill off all that you find to make sure you get enough as they thin out near the end of the game. After you kill/incapacitate your 10th one, the trophy will pop!

17C.jpg Pinata Party trophy_silver.png  **Missable Trophy**

Killed or incapacitated 10 Weeping Bats.

Weaping Bats are the tall, gangly looking monsters that jump onto the ceilings and then drop down on to you. These will be the second type of enemies you come across and will encounter them fairly frequently. For the trophy, you just need to kill (they stop moving and then disintegrate) or incapacitate (they lay on the ground twitching and don't get back up) 10 of them. This should be pretty easy as there is more than 10 that you will encounter, but make sure you take care of all that you see in order to be sure. After you kill/incapacitate your 10th one, the trophy will pop!

FDB.jpg Lockdown trophy_silver.png  **Missable Trophy**

Killed or incapacitated 10 Prisoner Minions.

Prisoner Minions look like demon men and are another very common enemy that can be found throughout Silent Hill and in later locations as well.

F63.jpg The Bigger They Are... trophy_silver.png  **Missable Trophy**

Killed or incapacitated 10 Prisoner Juggernauts.

Prisoner Juggernauts are much larger & stronger version of the Prisoner Minions. You will not encounter them until the very end of the game. For the trophy, you just need to kill (they stop moving and then disintegrate) or incapacitate (they lay on the ground twitching and don't get back up) 10 of them. After you kill/incapacitate your 10th one, the trophy will pop!

Trophy Tip:

Spoiler

**NOTE: This part includes partial spoilers for the end of the game!**

The easiest way to do this is to take care of all the ones you come across throughout the prison and then at the very end of the game when you are fighting Cunningham, let her open prison cells and let them out, then kill them with your club (there are 10-12 of them just in this section alone).

AF6.jpg Fight or Flight? trophy_silver.png  **Missable Trophy**

Escaped from 20 monsters.

All you have to do for this trophy is find a monster, engage it in battle (you take your battle stance), then turn and run away until you in your normal position again and the monster isn't attacking/near you. Rinse & repeat 20 times until the trophy pops!

(*Note: This popped for me after more than 20, so just keep trying and it will pop eventually*)

3D7.jpg Stay of Execution trophy_silver.png  **Missable Trophy**

Incapacitated 20 monsters without killing them.

To incapacitate a monster, you must beat them until they are knocked down on the ground. Once they are down, you must not kill them and instead just turn and walk/run away. Unfortunately, depending on your melee weapon (if using one), you have to watch yourself as you can kill monsters just by hitting them normally without hitting them on the ground afterwards or get that kill hit in as they are falling to the ground if you are swinging wildly. Watch the monster and if it lays there twitching, then you know you didn't kill it. Rinse & repeat 20 times and the trophy will pop!

(*Note: This popped for me after more than 20, so just keep trying and it will pop eventually)

C39.jpg Gun Control trophy_bronze.png  **Missable Trophy**

Killed 25 monsters with the Pistol or Shotgun.

Just kill 25 enemies with a either a pistol (any type) or the shotgun. To save on ammo, melee the monster until they are knocked down, then finish them off with a shot (or however many it takes for said monster). The easiest enemies to kill are the Screamers & Prison Minions as it normally only takes one shot to kill them after they've been incapacitated (at least on easy difficulty), so search them out around Silent Hill and in other areas and focus on them. After you kill your 25th monster with a pistol/shotgun, the trophy will pop!

(Thanks to Maaso for the tip & Kahalachan for confirming)

463.jpg Hypochondriac trophy_bronze.png  **Missable Trophy**

Used 20 First Aid Kits.

Exactly as it sounds, just find and use 20 first aid kits throughout your game. If you are playing on Easy, then you should find way more than 20 of them, just make sure that you use them. After the 20th kit used, the trophy will pop!

Note: There is a spot in the game where after you do something, your inventory resets to nothing, so make sure you use any remaining ones prior to that so they don't go to waste. See below for that spot (contains mini-spoiler):

Spoiler

After you get to the boat and board it using the key, you will lose everything when you wake up in the next location

You must first complete the game and then start your second playthrough in order to access this side-quest. The side quest requires you to dig up a total of 7 items buried throughout Silent Hill. For a complete list of locations, checkout THIS THREAD. After you dig up the 7th one, the trophy will pop!

762.jpg Silent Hill Historic Society trophy_silver.png  **Missable Trophy**

Completed Murphy's Journal with all Mysteries.

There are a total of 53 "Mysteries" scatted throughout the game that you need to find in ONE playthrough! These range from pictures, news articles, writings etc etc. If you are having problems finding certain ones or want a walkthrough of them, checkout THIS THREAD on our sister site for a complete listing. After you find the all the mystery pieces, the trophy will pop!

4D6.jpg Capital Punishment trophy_gold.png

Completed the game on the hard game difficulty setting, any ending.

When you start a new game, just make sure you set the game difficulty setting to HARD, then playthrough the game and finish it with any ending. During this run, I would suggest conserving ammo for firearms for tougher enemies & avoiding conflict as much as possible (if not completely all together). Also, whenever you reach a point where the game saves, if you are low on health, have yourself get killed and then reload that last save point as you will restart there with full health. With that in mind, try to save your health kits for when you direly need them in between save points. After you finish the game on hard and the final cut scene plays, the trophy will pop!

716.jpg Puzzle Master trophy_gold.png

Completed the game on the hard puzzle difficulty setting, any ending.

When you start a new game, just make sure you set the puzzle difficulty setting to HARD, then playthrough the game and finish it with any ending. If you are struggling with some of the puzzles during this run, then checkout THIS THREAD to find the answers to a lot of the puzzles in the game with their solutions on the various difficulties. After you finish the game on hard and the final cut scene plays, the trophy will pop!

(Thanks to FLIPADELPHIIA from X360A for the link!)

128.jpg Good Behavior trophy_silver.png  **Missable Trophy**

Completed the game on any difficulty without killing any monsters.

Just as it says, you must complete the game without KILLING any monsters. You can incapacitate them, but make sure that they don't die during combat (make sure they don't disintegrate after they fall to the ground, if so, reload an old save to restart). This is actually easier than it sounds as you can just run by everything and avoid fighting completely (although "The Bank" sidequest that does require killing, so avoid doing it during this run). If you are ever worried that you might have killed something by accident or not, always check your statistics screen under the pause menu (it's almost at the bottom) to make sure it's still 0. "Bosses" do NOT count towards kills. After you complete the game with no monster deaths, the trophy will pop!

Note: Near the very end of the game you will ride an elevator and it will make stops at different floors where you have to defeat some enemies in order for it to resume. Make sure you just incapacitate them and not kill them (although I'm not 100% positive you even can). After they are all down, the elevator will resume and they will disintegrate, but as long as they were just incapacitated, they will not count against your total.

Wow that went up fast. Nice work dude.

Now I have a question. I had a gut feeling your actions would influence the ending received so I'm working through my 1st play making all good decisions. In the guide you also state "without killing too many monsters". If I do kill a lot would I automatically receive a bad ending or something?

hmmm quick note. Are you sure you're ending's criteria are correct ?

[spoiler=ID]I made all good decisions throughout the game (don't have to heart to choose evil :o ) and spared the girl.

But I ended up with Ending B.

went back and repeated my save file and Killed the girl which got me Ending D.

The more enemies you kill, the more it lowers your overall "score". When you choose the positive options for the two options at the beginning of the game, then it sets you on that path and gives you a good number of points in the positive. When you kill enemies after incapacitating them (after they fall on the ground and twitch), it causes you to lose points towards it. If you just leave them incapacitated, then I do believe it gives you positive points but I'm not 100% on that part. Your "score" at the end of the game has to be above 0 to get the Endings A & C (depending on what your final choice in the game is).

@Breezy, if you got the B & D endings and made the positive choices earlier in the game, then you more than likely killed too many monsters throughout the game to cause your score to go negative. I know when I did my playthrough for the A & C endings, I chose the positive choices and then probably left just as many enemies incapacitated as I killed in the long run, hense evening out in the end and keeping my score above 0.

I'm positive on how the endings are as stated as I've confirmed them through various websites & tested them myself, so what I said above is the only thing I can come up with if you received those two instead of A & C. Just go back and make sure that on one of your next playthroughs you kill less enemies (or for a guaranteed A & C endings, do your playthrough for killing no enemies and choose the positive choices as that will give you a positive end score no matter what).

Awesome! thanks for the guide...

One Q. How scary is this game?? Is like Silent Hill: Homecomming?? better? worst?

As far as jumpy scares, not that much at all (at least for me). There were a few moments that were slightly disturbing I suppose, but nothing that was outrageous.

Killed 25 monsters with the Pistol or Shotgun.

This one can be tricky if you don't find enough ammo for your weapons, so I suggest doing the side quest trophies as a few of them wield ammo/guns/etc as rewards. Just kill 25 enemies with a either a pistol (any type) or the shotgun. The easiest enemies to kill are the Screamers & Prison Minions, so search them out around Silent Hill and in other areas and focus on them. After you kill your 25th monster with a pistol/shotgun, the trophy will pop!

On this one.....just melee them down until they are incapacitated on the ground, then finish them off with one round. No need to waste ammo....

I wasn't sure if that worked or not as all my kills were 100% gun kills from start to finish. If that is the case though, I'll add it to the guide as that would make ammo conservation alot less required. Thanks for that tip!

I experimented by checking my statistics screen and then seeing how many I killed with firearms. I did it that way and it worked. So yeah I'm confirming the killing blow has to be a bullet to count towards this. Very easy to do when they're incapacitated and just laying there.

I experimented with pistol whipping them and hitting them with the butt of my shotgun to kill them and that doesn't count as a firearm kill.

Alright, added to the guide, thanks for the confirmation!

Guide should be pretty much completed at this point and putting the finishing touches on the the roadmap right now, so should be completed here shortly! And yes, I know there are a ton of "missables" listed, but that's because if they aren't done in one playthrough, they require another one to be done to get them (since there is no chapter select/free roam/etc & stats don't carry over).

Just would like to give some additional info for Good Behavior trophy(couldn't find answers >.>)

Bosses do not count towards kills

The trophy unlocks before the credits(or it did for me at least)

During a fight on the elevator, the enemies DO disintegrate but they do not count towards the kills(if you are worried you killed some during any time, especially here, check statistics)

Knocking them down also allows allows the elevator to continue on it's way, they disintegrate after it moves.

Only weapon that I had really kill the enemies was the axe, didn't incapacitate just killed after 3 hits to screamers, not even the shotgun did that for me(not that it can't)

Hope it helps.

Just would like to give some additional info for Good Behavior trophy(couldn't find answers >.>)

Bosses do not count towards kills

The trophy unlocks before the credits(or it did for me at least)

Crap, I did edit it originally to say that the bosses don't count and that you can always check your stats to see if you accidently killed anything, but for some reason it didn't save, will have to re-enter that part.

I forgot to add about the elevator part, although I don't know if you actually can kill them or not after they've been knocked down, I know I accidently hit a few on the ground when I was doing the Good Behavior trophy, but they didn't die (and I was using the axe so not sure).

Is it possible to (P) in one playthrough. All those missables like Deus Ex: Human Revolution?

No

You can use any weapon you want to knock down monsters you just cant hit them while they're down or you'll kill them. I shot many monsters with the shotgun and pistols and got the the good behavior trophy because I didn't execute them while they were down.

Sometimes you can kill them without knocking them down first, especially on Easy difficulty with weapons like an axe or shotgun (I've had it happen with each). I've also killed a Screamer on Hard difficulty just by punching, so you have to be careful, although 99% of the time you will have to knock them down and then kill them for them to die.

I have a question for puzzle master does that include all the side quest puzzles?

Using the Nail Gun also counts as a firearm kill, that's 20 kills alone if you down the enemy first with melee then finish them off with a shot.

For the Puzzle Master trophy, you just need to finish the game on hard puzzle setting, so technically the only puzzles required are main story related ones. The side quest ones are just optional. When I did it, I didn't do any of the side quests and just focused one running through the main game and it popped during the credits.

Maybe I'm just extremely unlucky, but I had a ton of glitched trophies. I did not even get a trophy for my ending, even though I waited through the whole thing - credits and all, back to the title screen. I did not get the trophies for killing certain enemies (I know for sure I killed enough screamers), running away, healing, even though I met the requirements.

I also was not able to do all the sidequests because the fishing rod was not where it should be. When I couldn't find it I looked for it at each place for the different difficulties, it wasn't anywhere; I believe this is caused by another glitch, where the unlocked subway doors would become locked again for no apparent reason. Possibly related to me not opening the subways until late in the game. I know other people have had the fishing rod incident, but has no one else had these other glitches?
