Section 02. Introduction

Silent Hill 3 HD is an HD upping of a game that originally came out on the PS2 and is one of two games part of the HD Collection. Unlike the other games; this one is nowhere near as complicated, so the platinum should come easily.

WARNING: Due to the poor programming in this game it is prone to freezing. This can make earning one of the trophies extremely difficult as you have to beat the game while saving no more than 2 times. It is very possible to obtain the platinum but understand that your game may freeze and result in loss of progress.

Section 2.1 - What to know

Even though earning the platinum isn't much of a challenge, there are a few things you should understand to help make your trek to the platinum even easier.

Pausing the game

Pressing :start: will pause the game and the timer so if you forget on where to go, you can pause and look at a walkthrough. Pausing will freeze the in game timer and help you earn the 3 hour time limit.

Bullet Adjustment

After clearing the game once start up an Extra New Game. Go into the options screen and press :l1:, :r1:, :l2:, and :r2: simultaneously to access the special options menu. One of the options here is Bullet Adjustment, setting this number higher gives you more bullets on pickup.

Death Traps

This game has an immense amount of instant death traps in it, if you do not know how to bypass them this game can be very frustrating. Having the game on Easy does prevent you from falling off edges to your death but there are still plenty of other traps.

Continue

When you die you may notice a Continue option, the game will start you out at the beginning of the area you're currently in. If you wish to continue you will have one less save as choosing to continue will count as a save; this affects your final score and the trophy as well.

Section 03. Walkthrough

Luckily this game only has 3 endings and you'll only need 2.5 playthroughs to reach the platinum. The big thing to remember is you'll need to earn 333 kills across all playthroughs. The harder the difficulty the more enemies that spawn, but you can still earn 333 in two playthroughs on Normal if you do some hunting.

Section 3.1 - First Playthrough

If you want you can play this one on Action Level on Easy, but I advise you to play on Normal and go for as many kills as possible. For your first playthrough I suggest you focus on earning 75 melee kills, killing the final boss with the Katana (your free to kill other bosses with guns), and earning as many kills as possible; 111 is plenty but you should do more. You don't need to be concerned with earning the speed, save or damage trophies yet; those will be infinitely easier on later playthroughs. As long as you do good enough you should earn the Normal Ending. Be sure to save your clear data.

(S) Hoarder (Missable)

(S) They Look Like Monsters to You?

Section 3.2 - Second Playthrough

From the menu screen choose Extra New Game to continue. I suggest from here on out you play with the Action Level on Medium. Your goal this time around will be picking up speed and wasting everything you see with guns. I suggest you turn up the Bullet Adjustment in the options menu; at most all you need to do is kill 75 with guns and have more gun kills than melee kills. I also suggest playing very poorly and focusing on getting the Possesed Ending. You can also pick up the unique weapons you've unlocked. Be sure to kill as many enemies as possible this playthrough; 111 is sufficient but the more the better. Be sure to save your clear data.

If you haven't killed the final boss with a melee attack yet, NOW is the time to do so.

(S) Eye For an Eye (Missable)

(S) A Time to Kill (Missable)

(S) Lost Memory (Missable)

Section 3.3 - Third Playthrough

From the menu screen choose Extra New Game to continue. This isn't going to be too difficult of a playthrough; all you'll need to do is focus on the gold trophies and getting as many kills as possible and you'll have the perfect weapon to do this (Infinite Submachinegun), as long as you've killed the final boss with a melee weapon. By the time you finish this playthrough you should've earned a total of 333 kills across your three playthroughs, if not you'll need to play through the entire game again until you earn that many.

If you played both previous playthroughs on Normal and killed plenty of enemies, it is possible you already have 333 kills. If this is the case, you can combine this step with the next step.

(S) Ninja (Missable)

(G) Adrenaline Junkie (Missable)

(G) Makes my Head Hurt (Missable)

(G) Heather's Got a Gun (Missable)

Section 3.4 - Final Playthrough

As long as you've done everything properly up to this point, this will be your last playthrough and will only require you to play through half the game. If you've earned 333 kill across your previous playthroughs you'll have access to one more weapon and it is paramount to earning your last two trophies. Any of the limitation trophies you may have missed can be earned here as well; those are the limited save, limited damage and limited time.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/D1F.jpgWall Basher (B)

Acquire the Silencer.

(Missable) After escaping the sewers you'll end up in a construction site. You'll have to take the stairs to the fifth floor and near the stairs the camera will shift to show a wall that's been patched. Use the Maul or Steel Pipe to destroy the patching to reveal the silencer and pick it up to earn this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/C73.jpgI'm Normal I Promise (B)

Unlock the "Normal" Ending.

(Missable) There are 3 endings in the game and two of them work off the same system. This is considered the better of the endings and requires you to play "nicer" than normal.

See It Was All in Your Head for details.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/AFB.jpgIt Was All in Your Head (S)

Unlock the "Possesed" Ending.

(Missable) There are 3 endings in the game and two of them work off the same system. This is considered the lesser of the endings and requires you to play "meaner" than normal.

[spoiler=Endings]

The ending you get is based on an invisible scoring mechanic built into the game. When you begin the game you are at 0 Points and most of your actions push it up; there is only one case that helps it go down.

Killing an enemy = +10 Points

Damage Received; 1 Damage = 1 Point

Confessional; Forgive = +1000 Points, Say Nothing = 0 Points

In the Amusement Park when Douglas is injured you can talk to him or simply walk past him.

Talk to Douglas; Talk = -400 Points, Don't Talk = 0 Points

To get the Normal Ending, you need to have less than 4000 Points.

To get the Possessed Ending, you need to have 4000+ Points.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/783.jpgPest Control (S)

Defeat Split Worm in under 2 minutes.

(Missable) You encounter the Split Worm at the end of the Alternate Shopping Mall and must defeat it under 2 minutes. To damage it you need to shoot it when it opens its mouth. This is most easily accomplished on Easy but can be done just as well on Medium.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/A5A.jpgEye For an Eye (S)

Defeat Missionary in under 2 minutes.

(Missable) You encounter the Missionary once you return to your apartment and must defeat it under 2 minutes. The Missionary can be complicated because it can block your bullets with the blades on its arms. If you found the suppressor you can attach it to your handgun and it won't be able to block your shots. If you do not have the suppressor you will need to wait for it to attack, dodge and then counter-attack. This is most easily accomplished on Easy but can be done just as well on Medium.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/4DB.jpgA Time to Kill (S)

Defeat Leonard in under 3 minutes.

(Missable) You encounter Leonard in the Alternate Hospital and must defeat him under 3 minutes. Leonard isn't too hard of a fight; he'll alternate between standing up and swimming in the water. The best weapon to use is the Shotgun to knock him down and then attack him while he's down. If you can position yourself to where his back will be when he stands up you can immediately knock him down again by shooting him with the shotgun. This is most easily accomplished on Easy but can be done just as well on Medium.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/593.jpgLost Memory (S)

Defeat Memory of Alessa in under 3 minutes.

(Missable) You encounter the Memory of Alessa at the end of the Amusement Park. Alessa isn't too hard of a fight but she is not a quick fight and has 4 forms. In each form she has a weapon and will run around, sometimes at you and sometimes away from you. When one of her forms die, it falls to the ground and disappears into a bloody pile. Her weapons in order are; Knife, Handgun, Pipe, Sub-Machinegun. The shotgun works best against her as it can easily stunlock her if she doesn't run too far away. This is most easily accomplished on Easy but can be done just as well on Medium.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/777.jpgBlasphemy (S)

Defeat God in under 8 minutes.

(Missable) God is the final boss of the game, you encounter it at the end of the Church, and need to defeat it under 8 minutes. Like all the other bosses, God is not hard but does take a lot of damage. The first thing you need to do is shoot God until it falls forward; from here you can either melee its head or just keep shooting. From here it will either swipe you with an arm or headbutt you; his attack depends on where you are in relation to its body. This is most easily accomplished on Easy but can be done just as well on Medium.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/1F4.jpgThey Look Like Monsters to You? (S)

Defeat at least 75 enemies by fighting in SH3.

To earn this trophy you need to kill 75 enemies with melee attacks in a single playthrough. You can attack an enemy with a gun, but you must kill them with one of the melee weapons or kick them while they're down. You have the knife from the start of the game, you get the pipe in the Alternate Shopping Mall, the Maul in the Sewers, the Katana in the Hilltop Center, and the Stun Gun in Heather's Apartment.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/B70.jpgThis Isn't an FPS (S)

Defeat at least 75 enemies by shooting in SH3.

To earn this trophy you need to kill 75 enemies with guns in a single playthrough. You can attack an enemy with a melee attack, but you must kill them by shooting them with a gun. You earn the handgun from normal play, you get the shotgun in the subway tunnels, and the sub-machinegun in the hospital.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/45F.jpgHoarder (S)

Pick up at least 100 items in SH3.

(Missable) To earn this trophy you need to pick up at least 100 different items in a single playthrough. It doesn't matter what you pick up as long as you're able to pick it up. Please see the walkthrough and maps listed in the Roadmap for where to find items.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/3FB.jpgNinja (S)

Receive less than 500 points of damage in one game, in SH3.

(Missable) To earn this trophy you need to make it from the start of the game to one of the three endings while taking less than 500 points of damage. The easiest method is to do this while going for the UFO ending as going for that ending literally cuts the game in half. Another way to help you is to keep your distance and use only guns; if you're having ammo problems you can turn the bullet adjustment up on an Extra New Game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/19D.jpgThere's a New Sheriff in Town (S)

Acquire the Beam Saber.

One way to acquire this weapon is to beat the game at least once while earning more fighting kills over shooting kills. Once you've done that, start an Extra New Game. Now in the Shopping Mall in the hallway outside of the storage room where you get the key with the tongs is a locked door at the far north end. Attempt to go through this door and Heather will remove the door knob, giving you the Beam Saber and this trophy. Finishing the game a second time will automatically award this if you've already unlocked the Flamethrower; you can reload your final save and beat the boss again to do this.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/8BF.jpgFlame On (S)

Acquire the Flamethrower.

One way to acquire this weapon is to beat the game at least once while earning more shooting kills over fighting kills. Once you've done that, start an Extra New Game. Now in the Shopping Mall in Helen's Bakery, this weapon will be lying on one of the counters. Pick it up to acquire the weapon and this trophy. Finishing the game a second time will automatically award this if you've already unlocked the Beam Saber; you can reload your final save and beat the boss again to do this.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/5E1.jpgWhat the Hill Just Happened? (S)

Acquire the Gold and Silver Pipes.

(Missable) The way to acquire these weapons is to beat the game at least once, now start an Extra New Game. In the Sewers, in the room where you electrocute the tentacle with the hairdryer; approach the edge of the water and press :cross:. The game will ask you to throw your pipe in the water, do so. Next a fairie will appear and ask you 3 questions; answer these truthfully (No, No, Yes). If you tell a lie she will take your pipe from you. However if you tell the truth she will give you your pipe back along with the gold and silver pipe, which will net you this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/62D.jpgHeather's Got a Gun (G)

Acquire the Unlimited Sub Machine Gun.

(Missable) The way to acquire this weapon is to beat the game at least once while killing the final boss with a melee attack; that is the knife, pipe, maul, or katana. Now start an Extra New Game and after climbing through the window of the Mall and you're in an alley; turn to Heather's left and search the pile of boxes to acquire this weapon and the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/1D5.jpgAdrenaline Junkie (G)

Complete SH3 in 3 hours or less.

(Missable) This is not as hard as it sounds; simply start the game and make it to the results screen within 3 hours. You can pause the game which does freeze the in game timer and use that to read a walkthrough. The easiest way to do this is via the UFO Ending as it cuts the game length in half, making this trophy much easier to achieve.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/69D.jpgMakes my Head Hurt (G)

Complete SH3 with 2 saves or less.

(Missable) This is not as hard as it sounds. Make it from the start of the game to the results screen while saving no more than 2 times. The easiest way to do this is via the UFO Ending as it cuts the game length in half, making this trophy much easier to achieve.

NOTE: Silent Hill 3 affords you a Continue option if you die. If you choose to continue from a death the continue will count as a save and you will therefore be hampering yourself while attempting this trophy.

WARNING: Out of both games on the HD collection, this game has received more reports about freezing and being unable to play. Proceed with caution when attempting this trophy as you may find yourself losing progress to the games poor optimization.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/EE9.jpgWhere's Luna? (G)

Acquire the "Princess Heart" costume.

To earn this trophy you will need to beat the game at least once. Now at the Main Menu, go to Extra Costumes. At the typewriter keyboard input PrincessHeart. Be sure to capitalize the P and H, then hit the enter key and the game will say you got a transform costume and shortly after this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/8CA.jpgIf Looks Could Kill (G)

Unlock the Heather Beam.

To earn this trophy you will need to end the game with a collective kill count of at least 333 enemies. To earn this many kills you will need to play through the game multiple times. Kill as many enemies as possible and try to reach at least 111 kills per playthrough. The higher difficulties also have more enemies spawn; playing on Normal can earn you 333 in two playthroughs if you do some hunting. Once that is done the game will unlock the Heather Beam for you at your results screen and give you this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/287.jpgCoolest. Dad. Ever. (G)

Unlock the "UFO" ending.

(Missable) To earn this trophy you will first need to have access to the Heather Beam. With access to that weapon, use it to kill at least 30 enemies before you reach your apartment. If you do the game will go into an ending the moment you walk through the door. This trophy is given to you at the results screen.

To use the Heather Beam you need to have no weapon equipped. Then hold :r2: and press/hold :cross: as if you had a weapon and you will fire the Heather Beam. Using the Heather Beam depletes Heather's stamina so don't overuse it too much. You can also change the attack of the Heather Beam by wearing the Princess Heart costume.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1059/40E.jpgI Guess it's Times to Roll the Credits (P)

Unlock all Trophies in SH3.

This is the platinum trophy, obtain all lesser trophies to get this one.

Hello, I know the HD collection type games don't get much traffic; especially these ones after all the negative press they've received. But if someone could critique, offer insight or just tell me I suck at writing it'd be helpful... as long as you point out where I can make corrections.

You've got "Where's Luna?" Trophy requirements wrong, the game has to be completed on extra new game before inputting the password to work.

I don't think this is true. I just did it after only one playthrough. Couldn't use Heather Beam, but I had the costume.

It can be done after your first playthrough as long as you make a clear data save; that way the game remembers that you've beaten it once and you'll have access to the Extra New Game and Extra Costumes options.

I have beaten Silent Hill 3 High Definition just a few minutes ago and then was able to get the Sailor Moon costume and Alessa/Cheryl/Heather was already able to use it. And I also got the trophy once I got the costume.

So it is definitely the truth that it works without any problems.

It is funny how Kheapathic wrote his post here just before me and that his post was the newest in this forum part of Classics High Definition. I thought something like that would happen. My fortunetelling skills still seem to be good.

Great guide mate, this will come in handy once I've gone thru the game once :) this is stupidly easy compared to number 2 the trophies on that take a lot of time. I'm going to do the who needs a gun trophy soon, but I needed a break after completing the game 5 times lol but looks like I can just enjoy this one while getting a plat at the same time lol my psn id is B-ShArP911 check me out :)

You need to beat the Final Boss twice and no more less. I have reloaded my save from yesterday and defeated the wannabe God today to get my 75 Close Combat-Trophy and so I've had not really a different result screen and it said that I have unlocked the Flame Thrower. So I think both weapons and their Trophies just require to defeat the Final Boss twice.

I have also made some Screenshots to help and show that it is true - at least the unlock the Flame Thrower thing:

1st Try: 54 Shooting Kills, 74 Close Combat: Light Sabre, Happy Birthday T-Shirt and Extra New Game

Reload and defeat the Final Boss again after an extra Close Combat (to get the 75 Close Combat Trophy): 54 Shooting Kills, 75 Close Combat: Flame Thrower

I have already said that there was not much of a difference and the most important things I did after reloading to get the Trophy. It does not depend on the amount of defeated monsters and how you defeat them. You need to defeat the Final Boss once to the the Light Sabre and then when you reload and defeat her a second time you'll get the Flame Thrower.

No, I cannot. Once it says you have unlocked whatever it does not show it again.

And my screenshots above as well as the time between my two Light Sabre and Flame Thrower Trophies prove it. I would never begin a new save and run to the final boss in Silent Hill this fast. As Horror it is too extreme for me to do that right after I have just finished it.

I was misinterpreting what you were saying a bit, also yes. I forgot you just need to beat the game twice and the game will automatically unlock the other weapon for you. The descriptions have been fixed.

Maybe you can mention that reloading the save and defeating the final boss again is enough to get the second Weapon?

You mentioned in the run where you go for the UFO ending "Coolest. Dad. Ever." you can use it for "Ninja" (low damage) and "Adrenaline Junkie" (Finish in less then 3 hours) can it also be used for "Makes my Head Hurt" (Finish with 2 or Less Saves)?

Yes it can, all the limit trophies (time, damage, saves) can be earned with the UFO ending.

Can you reload a save right before the final boss to get the possessed ending? I did and didnt get it. I had 3867 points of damage. only killed 81 enemies and did forgive. Any reason why I didn't get it?

Not sure how you didn't get it. You can reload and if you have the healing items, go ahead and let the boss wail on you before you kill it.

Yea thats what I did and I tired 3 times but it keep giving me the other ending. It's fine though since I needed a 2nd playthrough for other things besides that i'm gonna just get it then. I read on another site (don't remember what site) that you also do have to have a 100 kills while meeting everything else. I dont know if this is true or not but if is would explain why I didn't get it.
