Introduction

Shift 2 Unleashed is the follow-up to the 2009 hit, Need for Speed SHIFT by Slightly Mad Studios. The SHIFT series is one of the most realistic and immersive simulation racing games on the market. With 145 cars from 37 manufacturers available, the SHIFT series satisfies racers who desire a simulation racer with arcade-style objectives. This time you will build your racing career working towards the FIA GT1 championship crown. Along the way you'll progress to drifting, time-attack, throwback cars, endurance, GT3 and several other varied events! SHIFT 2 has several new additions, an in-helmet cam view, night-time racing, real vehicle damage that affects vehicle performance, and the Autolog feature introduced with Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. New online modes include online duel and catch-up. The higher difficulty in this installment is that unlike the first SHIFT game's trophy set, this time you must complete a specific set of objectives. Such as competing online for King of the Hill, drifting, beating all your rivals, and being able to master every track in the game.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Playthrough your career on HARD difficulty

When you start the game, your first race in your career will be against opponents for two laps after a quick tutorial where you are driving in a Nissan GT-R. It is important that you come in first place in this race for the Proving Grounds trophy as this is missable. If you want to prepare visually for this race, you can watch the video in the trophy guide section.

After the tutorial, I recommend starting up the difficulty on hard to make a single-career run towards 75 career wins in first-place for the Race License trophy which will also unlock Sports License and Competition License along the way. While a podium finish normally counts as a winning finish in the game for progression unless otherwise stated, for these trophies you will need to finish in first-place. Do keep a tally of your wins as there is no in-game count of them in the Autolog.

The career mode in the game is open-ended. As you increase your driver level and gain XP, you will unlock new events. Your focus at this point is leveling up, earning cash towards Bounty Hunter, and getting as many podium finishes as possible in all events. Podium finishes reward the most cash and you will be able to purchase better cars and upgrades for beating your rivals. You'll eventually face off against rivals as you win enough podium finishes to play in that respective series' championship event.

During races you'll want to try to complete race objectives that appear on the race loading screen, such as leading and running a clean lap. These count for the Going The Extra Mile. Also attempt on mastering the track by working towards a 100% score on the best racing line and mastering every corner of that track for Day Walker and Night Rider. As you progress you'll see the tracks in a different daylight setting such as night time and will have to master those as well. As such, there are 126 track master badges total to earn.

Eventually you'll work yourself up to the GT3, Works, and GT1 championship events to finish your career and earn GT3 Champion, Works Champion, and GT1 Champion.

Step 2: Online

Online can be done at anytime, as you will need to accrue over 10 hours of online game time to unlock Notorious. Your total time can be tracked through your autolog profile.

You can get some friends together or find boosting partners in this thread for the I. Am. Iron. Man., In the Zone, and Intercept and Pursue trophies. As they can be unlocked in private unranked matches.

When you complete a race in your career, don't forget to recommend a track to your friend(s) using the :triangle: button after a race to help them unlock Recommended.

For King of The Hill, you'll need to win eight races in a row in a ladder-style online driver duel. When you win the qualifying round, you'll unlock I'm Going To Hollywood! These cannot be boosted by practical means as its an auto-match.

Step 3: Clean up

At this point, you will have all events unlocked so you can clean-up the remaining trophies. You are likely left with just earning cash and badges. If you need to work on hard difficulty wins, you can change the setting back to hard and start re-playing events you know you can get a podium finish in. If you need online time, you can also work towards winning events online and earning more money as well. Most likely all that will be left is earning $10 million for Bounty Hunter. Going back to win more GT1 events on top of the podium will give the most money per race. However, GT3 events pay a little less cash, but are shorter in time-length to run.

Career Mode Tips

• It is recommended that your backup your Shift 2 save data often via removable media and/or the PlayStation Plus Cloud Service. There have been many confirmed reports of the game freezing during saving points as-of title update 1.02. If the game freezes during game saving, your could lose your career progress. Save yourself possible grief, and backup when possible.

• Based upon your driving skill and outcome in the initial career race, JR will present you with possible handling and difficulty options to start your career with. I do suggest giving what the game has presented a try. If you felt the tutorial was hard to control, you can set it to novice handling with easy mode to start things off. This will turn-on all assists including steering, which should help those who are having issues adjusting to the handling. I would advise to not depend on brake assist as it can make races a little harder than they should be.

• You can spend your cash as you see fit on cars and upgrades. If you change your mind on a car upgrade, you can get a full-refund on that upgrade. This allows you to experiment with how you want your car to work best for you.

• The AI will adjust to your car's performance index as you install more upgrades. If you are having problems getting podium finishes in races, you can simply go stock or minimal upgrades and win races on technical driving skill. With rivals, you likely want to make upgrades since their cars are on a fixed performance index. The rest of the field will adjust however but your chances at beating rivals is better.

• Online Pass and Need for Speed loyalty awards:

If you bought this game new and received the limited edition online pass, not only will you get a 10k bonus and two cars, but as soon as you claim it online you will enable double-XP for 24 hours. Keeping this in mind, you can make considerable progress early-on towards Level 20 and the Veteran trophy.

If you previously played Need for Speed SHIFT, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, and/or Need for Speed: Undercover on your EA Nation account, you can also unlock loyalty bonuses for free XP and cash under the options menu.

To unlock these driver level trophies, you will need to level up to the appropriate driver level. Everything you do in-game will earn XP, i.e. following the best race line, mastering corners, being in the lead, etc. You will also earn more XP by finishing races and playing at harder difficulties. There are XP bonuses by completing race objectives that are shown on the race screen before you enter the race. As mentioned in the road-map, you can also earn double-XP in your first 24 hours after claiming your online pass, therefore making progress to level 20 much faster.

10.jpg Night Rider (G)

Mastered every location at night

See Daywalker

03.jpg Daywalker (S)

Mastered every location in day or dusk

In each track location in the day or dusk setting, you will need to master it by driving around the track and achieving a 100% best racing line score after one full lap. You will also have to master each corner of that track to earn the track master badge for that track. This is accomplished by racing through the racing line in each corner with the proper speed, without going off-track, and hitting another object. You can always see what corners you mastered in-race in your race display and you will gain XP by mastering corners even if you already done so previously. You can progress on mastering tracks in any game mode such as quickplay or online

The same principle above applies to Night Rider, as many locations have night conditions in which you will also have to master the tracks from scratch even if you completed them during daytime. Do note that dusk conditions count for night badges as the trophy text is misleading. Also, not all locations have night conditions. You can track all your progress towards these trophies anytime through your Autolog profile.

Refer to Globetrotter for a complete list of track configurations and which tracks have night conditions.

If you are having trouble with some corners, there are several things you can try. First, try using a slower D-class car like the VW Golf as this car will have the easiest speed and handling setup. You can also use braking assistance to guide you with the appropriate speed to take a corner, you can use the novice handling setting (which turns on braking & steering assist) as the game will attempt to slow down your car and guide you to take the corners at the appropriate speed.

Lastly, some of the best race lines for corners may not entirely be accurate. If you are finding that you are following the line around a corner with proper speed, without hitting an object but it still does not register, you can also turn-off the best line markings in your race options menu. That way you can use your best judgement and/or using the actual tire markings on-track to guide you through the proper "line" around the corner. Some experimentation may be necessary, and you can also check out the track mastering thread for more discussion.

Competed at every location in the game

If you progress through the career mode in level order, you will attain this trophy naturally. Otherwise by the end of your career if you still do not have this unlocked, you can play any event in any mode (even quick mode) and it will count towards this trophy. See spreadsheet image for the complete list of locations and for all your track badge needs. This trophy will unlock upon completion of the last track on your list.

12.jpg Proving Grounds (B) *Missable

Won JR's GTR Challenge

After the tutorial, you will race two laps in a Nissan GT-R against competition. It is important that you win the race in first place to unlock this trophy. If you feel you are not going to win the race, pause the game and restart the race. As explained in the roadmap, this trophy is missable. If you continue on without winning, you cannot retry the event unless you backup your save file, delete it, and start the game again. I've also made a video if you want to prepare for this race visually to unlock the trophy:

14.jpg Road to Glory (B)

Beaten your first Rival

As you progress in career-mode, you'll run into events that end in a championship race series. The first one that is possible is against Vaughn Gittin, Jr in the Drift branch. You have to win the championship series and beat your rival in that series to unlock this.

19.jpg Cub Scout (B)

Won your first Event Set Badge

This is likely one of your first trophies, all you need to do is get all podium finishes in an event set. The easiest path to obtaining this is to complete the initial D-class set that you start your career in.

20.jpg The Driver's Battle (B)

Completed an event purely from helmet cam

A new view in SHIFT 2 is the helmet cam that gives you the driving view directly from the helmet. Use the :square: button before the start of your race to set this view. You can tell if you see your helmet at the bottom of the view. Complete the race event with only this view to unlock this.

It is also confirmed that this may not always unlock on your first helmet-cam run if you did not have the view properly set before the race. If you did not get the trophy after the event when you switched to the helmet-cam, play another event (it will load with helmet-cam view completely from the start). Do not change the view at all during the race and the trophy will unlock following that event. See my video below to see what the helmet cam view looks like as I race around the first Monza GP race event and unlock the trophy:

21.jpg Elitist (B)

Place 1st in an event using Elite handling model

Another new addition to SHIFT 2 is an immersive Elite handling mode giving the driver full control of their car without any assists. This trophy is designed to have you trial this experience. Under the options menu, set your handling to Elite. Complete and win a race in first-place. You can do this as soon as your first race in your career. Try doing this with the D-class car you start out with in one of the first races if you are having difficulty with this handling mode.

22.jpg Sports License (B)

Won 25 Career events on Easy difficulty or higher

See Race License

23.jpg Competition License (B)

Won 50 Career events on Medium difficulty or higher

See Race License

24.jpg Race License (S)

Won 75 Career events on Hard difficulty

When you first start the game and finish the introduction race, JR will present you with a difficulty setting that the game believes you are comfortable with. The difficulty setting affects AI behavior, time and drift targets, XP, and money you acquire in events. At this point you can keep the settings presented or change it to your liking. Ideally if you start out on Hard difficulty and win 75 career events in first-place, you can get all three difficulty trophies in one-go.

If you are having trouble with some events you can lower the difficulty without penalty and change it back to a harder difficulty afterward. It is also possible to start your career on easy or on medium, then later repeat and win events on hard difficulty. This will unlock the remaining difficulty trophies as the game keeps track of the highest difficulties you've won in first-place.

25.jpg Sizzlin' (B)

Beaten the 1st Target Time in a Hot Lap event

When you reach level 3, there will be hot lap events available to go for this. These events have three time attack target times (easy, medium, hard) to strive for to get a podium finish. You just need to beat the hard, or top target time, in an event.

26.jpg The World is my Oyster (B)

Unlocked the FIA GT1 Branch

FIA GT1 Branch is the final, top series in SHIFT 2. This will be unlocked automatically after GT3 Champion once you beat rival Patrick Soderlund and win the GIA GT3 series branch. Completing the Works branch is not required.

27.jpg Nailed It (B)

Track Mastered your first location

The term track master is used in SHIFT 2 to describe mastering all corners and achieving a 100% best race line score a track. This involves taking all sections and corners at the right speed, on the best race line, and without hitting any obstacles or cars. Stay on the best race line for one lap to achieve a 100% score, master all corners that are listed on the bottom left of your screen on one track, and this will pop at the conclusion of the race. If you are having trouble mastering certain corners, you can try using a slower D-class car. In this video I made below, I unlocked the trophy using the Scion tC as the first car I bought when I started my career at Monza GP:

29.jpg Tic Tac Toe (B)

Own a Modern, Retro, and Muscle car

This involves owning three types of cars as listed. When you go to the car lot or garage, the type of car is listed. Simply just own one from each type to unlock. You are likely to earn this naturally as you'll need to purchase a retro and muscle car to compete in their respective series. If you want this trophy quicker and have $55039 to spend you can unlock this by buying the cheapest cars of each type:

$4,500 - Volkswagen Golf Mk1 GT1

$11,500 - Scion tC

$39,000 - Dodge Charger R/T

Have at least one car from each manufacturer in your Garage

The complete car manufacturer list of cars you need to have in your garage is below. You can also win cars by naturally progressing in your career so you don't necessarily have to buy them all with cash. For the optimal path to this trophy and to save the most money, here is a list of all possible reward cars:

30.jpg Dialed In (B)

Used On-Track Tuning to save a Tuning Setup for a car

By going to your garage you can take a car onto the track to test and perform on-track tuning. This is an excellent option to test that new upgrade you just purchased. Just select a car you own in garage mode and go into tuning, then create. You can tune to your liking or choose a quick option. Next, you will be able to choose a track to test your car. After some distance on the track in your pause menu you will need to use the tuning option to make changes to "dial in" your car. Just save those changes. Check out my video to walkthrough this process:

31.jpg Workaholic (B)

Upgraded 3 vehicles to Works spec

Once you've put enough upgrades into an upgradable car, the upgrade progress bar will mention that a Works upgrade is available. This final Works upgrade can be purchased with the last upgrade option. You will need to upgrade three cars to this configuration. Even though you might acquire other cars in Works configuration, you will still need to build three yourself.

Keep in-mind you can still make more car upgrades even after the Works option becomes available if you still want to purchase them to continue to raise your car performance index. While each individual car upgrade is fully-refundable, once you upgrade to Works configuration it cannot be reversed.

32.jpg Grass Roots (B)

Completed JR's Grass Roots Event

Once you get to Level 5, you will unlock JR's drift event. He will give an introduction and tutorial on how to drift at a warehouse yard practice course. You will be given a series of drift targets you will need to complete to pass the tutorial. There is no time limit and you cannot be penalized if you make mistakes so you will have all the time you need to learn to drift successfully. Once you complete this, the trophy will unlock and you will have a new drifting car in your garage to enter the drifting series.

34.jpg Badge Hunter (B)

Earned 50 Badges

35.jpg Badge Collector (S)

Earned 100 Badges

As you progress in your career and complete a "series" of events in a level you will earn a badge for that series. You will also earn badges by beating rivals, and mastering tracks in daylight and night time. You can always check your current badge statuses and ones you can work to unlock anytime by going to your profile in the Autolog menu. This will also come naturally if you are working on the mastering track trophies, Night Rider and Day Walker,as there 126 badges total to be obtained for those trophies.

05.jpg GT3 Champion (S)

Beat Patrick Soderlund and won the FIA GT3 European Championship

Once you win enough podium finishes in the GT3 series, you will unlock the GT3 European Championship series. Patrick Soderland is a driver for Team Need for Speed and is also an executive at EA. He is your rival that you need to beat in this series, along with winning it altogether to win this trophy. If you made it to the GT3 championship series, you won't have too much trouble with this as everyone is using a GT3 car and Patrick is no different with his GT3 BMW Z4. Which will have a new home in your garage when you unlock this trophy!

09.jpg Bounty Hunter (S)

Earned $10,000,000 total during your career

This one is a grind, and by-far the most time-consuming trophy in SHIFT 2, since by the time you complete your career you will not even get close to $10 million. You can continue to gain money however by winning races, playing on harder difficulties, finishing events with opponents, and playing online. Your best bet is likely to replay events you know you can get to the top of the podium in. Each career race shows the top of the podium, 1st place winnings and it gets less the further down you finish.

You won't need to hoard money as the game will keep track of all your winnings, so spend it all freely. This can be checked any time in your Autolog profile.

Here are some valuable options to help with the grind, you can also use these methods to help with hard wins for Race License. As you can repeat series championships using the "play again" option and replay those over for more series-winning cash. From ntahla:

Quote

i just tried this easy money method (from What is the quickest way to make 10 mill?), and it seems to be working:

1) play GT1 Championship -> Hockenheim Day & Night Tour

2) win first two races

3) win the last race, but DO NOT press continue, press play again instead

you'll get championship bonus (40,000 cr for hard) along with your finish position bonus, but the championship bonus is not shown. so if you are playing hard you are actually getting 67,000 (40,000 + 27,000) cr for the last race! and the race is about 5-5:10 min long, quite fast to finish and the circuit is not that hard

however, you need to replay the championship after you quitting the race, it's only 3 rounds and the first two are quite fast to finish too, so don't worry

There are also simpler races like the GT3 Silverstone Day & Night Tour which are notable since they are quick. The first race pays at least $20k when playing on hard difficulty and winning on top of the podium. As this only takes no more than three-minutes to run.

18.jpg Going the extra mile (S)

Completed 250 Event Objectives

When you start each event, on the loading screen you will see possible race objectives to accomplish during that race. These include a clean lap, which consist of going around the track without going off-course or making contact with another object. Leading a whole lap is another common objective, which will count upon one full resolution around the track from the point you took the lead. Beating a target track time is also another objective. Once you take the lead on the track, it becomes easier to accomplish the target track time objective since there will likely be less obstacles in your path to prevent you from slowing down.

There are well over 500 objectives to accomplish with all the events available in career mode. So if you miss one, just move on to the next race as you'll compile more objectives. If by the end of your offline career you still need more, you can check the remaining ones on the screen before you enter a race series.

17.jpg Works Champion (S)

Beaten Mad Mike Whiddett and won the Works Championship

You will need to win enough podium finishes in the Works series to unlock the Works championship series. You will have to beat Team Need for Speed driver, Mad Mike Whiddett, and finish on top of the podium in 1st place in the series to win this trophy. Keep in mind like with previous races, Works has varied car performance indices unlike the GT3/GT1 series.

04.jpg GT1 Champion (G)

Beat Jamie Campbell-Walker and won the FIA GT1 World Championship

Just like with previous branches, you will need to win enough podiums in the GT1 series to unlock the GT1 World Championship. Jamie Campbell-Walker drives the Nissan GTR and you will have to beat him in this 10-race series and finish on top of the podium in 1st place to win this trophy. Be sure you have enough time to play 10-races straight in one-sitting for this championship series.

Same with GT3, cars in GT1 have similar performance indices and if you've made it this far, you shouldn't have too much trouble being competitive against Jamie and the field.

07.jpg Dominator (G)

Beaten all Rivals

You can keep track of your Rivals badges progress by going to your Autolog profile at anytime. These are the Rivals badges you will need to earn:

Vaughn Gittin, Jr. - Drift Branch

Darren McNamara - Retro Branch

Chris Rado - Time Attack Branch

Vaughn Gittin, Jr. - Muscle Branch

Jamie Campbell-Walter - Modern A Branch

Tommy Milner - Endurance Branch

Patrick Soderlund - FIA GT3 Branch

Mad Mike Whiddett - Works Branch

Jamie Campbell-Walter - FIA GT1 Branch

36.jpg I'm Going to Hollywood! (B)

Got through the Qualifying round in the Driver Duel Championship

In the online menu, you will have the option to enter the Driver Duel championship. This is a blind auto-match series where you will be paired with an opponent in which you both will get a random car and track to race in a best of three series. Simply just win the qualifying round to unlock. As mentioned in the roadmap, don't always expect random opponents to play fair here. Keep in mind if any car gains a lead of several seconds on their opponent they will automatically be considered the winner for that round.

37.jpg Paparazzi (B)

Shared a photo or replay with others

In-game all you have to do is pause and use the camera feature to take a photo to save to your PS3. After the race, go to your Autolog profile and you will have the opportunity to share photos you have saved. Simply share your photo with the world to unlock!

38.jpg Intercept & Pursue (B)

Completed an Online Catchup Pack and Online Catchup Duel event

These are two events new to the game. An Online Catchup Pack is an event where slower cars get a head start on the faster car. In the duel format, it is just between two players. This is confirmed to be obtainable in unranked, private matches. You just simply need to complete these events, regardless of how you finish. An online catchup pack event requires at least three players while a duel is simply just you and another player. If you are having problems with people joining in unranked matches, try setting up a ranked match as this will open up auto-joins.

39.jpg King of the Hill (B)

Won your first Driver Duel Championship crown

You'll have to win seven races in a row after the qualifying match in a ladder-style online driver duel for a total of eight wins. The duel consists of two players being matched in a random car and track in a best-of-three driver duel battle. Each player will have the opportunity to start in the lead, and if a round 3 is necessary, the race will begin with both drivers getting the race green light while already driving. If you fail in any round, you will fall down to the qualifying round and have to start over the process again.

This mode cannot be boosted by practical means because it is a blind auto-match. Considering the small amount of players online this can also be frustrating for players because you will have to wait for someone available to play at your ladder level. Randoms playing this mode could resort to questionable tactics such as bumping you from behind and/or attempting to spin you out if they are close as they will not be disqualified for doing so. If the race leader gets too much of lead they will automatically win that round of the match. The best of three format benefits experienced drivers as it might help if you are playing catch-up and waiting for the player to make a single mistake.

Once you get to the championship round, you just need to beat your final matched opponent to take the crown. You also do not fall off the championship round after you win, only if you lose after winning the crown. This can be helpful to help others needing assistance with winning the crown in this round.

40.jpg In the Zone (B)

Won an Online event from helmet cam

You will need to finish on top of the podium in 1st place and complete the race entirely from the helmet cam view. Just use :square: button prior to race start to set your helmet cam view. It can look similar to the dashboard view and you can tell if its helmet cam if you see the bottom of your helmet on your screen. If you are a creating a race, you can also lock down the entire field to using only helmet cam view to ensure you will be eligible for the trophy. This is confirmed to be obtainable in unranked, private matches.

41.jpg Notorious (S)

Played Online for over 10 hours total

You can track your online time progress in your Autolog profile. Any events you play online will clock time for this trophy, ranked or unranked. Considering that you can obtain money and XP online, this is a good avenue to work on many trophies at once. It has also been reported that if you idle too long online, that you could get timed out by the EA servers. If that happens, the game will not save your time progress. You do need to complete the event for the game to save your time progress.

Thanks to redd214 for sharing a confirmed method on how to boost the time progress overnight:

redd214 said:

Setup a private match between you and your boosting partner(s). Start a time-attack race on any track you want, change the length to "long". I personally used the Enna P. track as the time-attack allotment is 20 minutes. At the end of the 20 minutes the match will end and you will go back to the lobby, whether you actually raced or not. When I did it we taped down the gas button (R2) just to be safe. If no one exits out of the lobby the timer will run down automatically and the game will start a new race without you having to do anything. You can leave your PS3 on all night this way and wake up to a new trophy.

Also I can confirm that the servers will kick you after about an hour if you have not moved at all.

Another good track option is Nürburgring Nordschleife, which is 45-minutes long when the length is set to "long". (Thanks DrAbuse and AL_HERZ_87)

Also keep in mind you will also want to make sure both you and your partner(s) PS3 controllers are plugged-in if you are leaving your PS3 unattended for an extended period of time.

Placed 1st in 5 consecutive Online events

You just need to finish in 1st place in any five consecutive online events. This is confirmed to be obtainable in unranked, private matches. For an easier time, it is probably best to do this with a friend considering the nature of the online community. See the boosting thread to find a partner.

13.jpg Recommended (B)

Completed an event recommended by a friend.

When you complete a career event, you can recommend that event to a friend by using the :triangle: button after a race. This will add the recommendation to your friend's Autolog. Have a friend do the same for you and simply complete that event to unlock this. If you have several friends playing SHIFT 2 this is another good avenue to gain more XP faster. If you beat your friend's Autolog recommended records you will gain more XP for that race!

Downloadable Content Trophies

Refer to the following guide(s) for information on downloadable content trophies available for Shift 2: Unleashed:

Legends Pack Trophy Guide & Roadmap

Speedhunters Edition Trophy Guide & Roadmap

Please note if you are installing DLC and have not currently unlocked the following base trophies:

(G)

Night Rider

(S)
Daywalker

(S)
Globetrotter

(G)
Dominator

Purchasing and installing any DLC before completing any of the above trophies will result in expanded career requirements to unlock them. For example, you will also need to complete any new rivalries that are included in downloadable content for Dominator if you have not unlocked that trophy yet. As each pack contains a new rivalry. For reference I have made a video of the expanded requirements with both DLC packs installed:

It is possible to remove these requirements from your trophy progress after you purchase the DLC if you remove the 1.02 patch in your game data folder on the PS3. However by doing this you will no longer be able to go online on PSN while playing Shift 2 until you download the patch again.

looks good! can you fix the description for this trophy...

The Driver's Battle (B)

Completed an event purely from helmet cam

One of the newest views in SHIFT 2 is the new helmet cam that gives you the driving view directly from the helmet. Use the button at the button before the start of your race to set this view. You can tell if you see your helmet at the bottom of the view. Complete the race event with only this view to unlock this.

That was just something i noticed. Just fix that sentence.

Great guide mate, much clearer and more detailed than the other one!

Can't really think of anything critical to say other than it might be worth linking to this thread under the corner mastering trophy: http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/shift-2-unleashed/101012-official-tracks-corners-mastering-thread.html

You've already mentioned using the Golf, which is good. But there are a few corners in the game where you need to make your own racing line in order to achieve, as the green line on the track is sometimes wrong, annoyingly. You might want to add a tip saying something like "if you're struggling with any corners, have a look through this thread, or try turning off the racing line and using the tyre marks as a guide."

Thanks, I'll add that thread mention! That will also keep that discussion to one thread hopefully. I did notice some racing lines being inaccurate on some tracks as I come to expect that from the first SHIFT game. Going by the tire marks or even "good judgement" in those instances are good tips for those questionable corners.

nice trophy guide. I like the layout you done. :applause:

Quick question though: Out of the 40-50 hours to platinum this game. how many hours you estimated was the online? I imagine the Career on Hard difficulty is actually lower than the online portion.

Thanks

The minimum is 10 hours online for the Notorious trophy, which can include the time it will take for King of the Hill and the other online wins trophies. With that said, 10 hours could also be the maximum amount of time you'll have to spend online. After the online trophies, you can simply just grind for more cash offline. As the offline GT1 series races provide more money than finishing first-place online on most tracks. So the optimal route would be spending more time in career offline than online.

(If you bought this game new and received the limited edition online pass, not only will you get a 10k bonus and two cars but as soon as you claim it online you will enable double-XP for 24 hours. Keeping this in mind you can make considerable progress early-on towards Level 20 therefore earning the Veteran trophy.)

QUOTE FROM GUIDE MAKER

OMG I WAS WONDERING WHY I WAS ALREADY AT LEVEL 15!

I played for only a few hours sunday and got to level 15 already and i only made it to class C events (I am playing every event, i do have upper leveled ones unlocked).

I had passed people on my friends list who had the game considerably longer than I.

I'm pretty surprised that im doing so well in this game. I didn't like the first shift, but i'm actually good at this one. Ive beaten like all my friends times so far:applause:

Do hot laps, eliminators, and drifts count towards 75 wins on hard?

Or is races only?

I earned the 75 hard wins trophy (remember they only have to be podiums, even though it says wins) after a drift event, so they certainly count. As for the other's I'm not 100% sure.

At a guess I'd say podiums in eliminators would count if you finish in the top three, but for hot laps you probably need to beat the fastest time on hard mode to count towards the trophy, which is incredibly difficult.

I'm guessing this because if you put it on Hard, then finish a hot lap event, rather than having 1st 2nd 3rd etc pop up as it would after a race, it says something like Hard 1:27 - Medium 1:31 ✔ - Easy 1:35 ✔.

I'm willing to be proven wrong though

Hope some of that helped. ;)

Does it matter which cars to use in the game? I'm not happy there's no guide for the game regarding what cars to use in the game.

There really is no wrong answer when it comes to cars to use in events. As the AI on the field is driven by your car performance index rating. If you go mainly stock and/or minimal upgrades, the field will try to match that and will also do the same if you purchase every individual upgrade. So you are never likely to have such a large advantage on the AI.

With that said, I personally believe you'll have an easier time if you keep your car performance index low early-on in your career. You know the saying "less is more"? This is where it can apply! If you master the best line around tracks early you can pretty much outrace the entire competition in slower cars.

As you progress and get more track time, you will see some of the same tracks again and build experience that the car rating won't be such a big issue.

Not very good when choosing the correct car and upgrading a car a bad idea.

Dude...there ARE no right or wrong cars...

Pick any car for any event that allows it. If the opponents are faster than you, upgrade it. If not, bonza. Keep using that car till you get to events where your opponents ARE faster than you. Then upgrade it.

Quick tip, depending on your car's class, try and get it as close to the next level of performance class without actually hitting it.

I believe it goes something like this:

<500 - class D

<1000 - class C

<1500 - class B

>1500 - class A

So try and get your car up to 999 PI, it'll mean your car is as fast as possible without getting to the next level. Your opponents will probably be around 800-900 PI, giving you the best possible chance of winning.

Is Golf GTI a good starting car and mastering cornering in all race tracks?

How do I avoid a game freeze problem?

Thanks for the good tips

I think its a good car to start out in the D-series, and to keep around in the garage for going back and taking on corners.

As for game freezes, it can be random and there doesn't seem to be any pattern to it. Sometimes I've noticed it when I hit select to go to Autolog during that day when there were problems staying logged on. But I had been backing up my file regularly just in-case. As long as the game does not freeze when you see the saving icon, you should be okay to restart without issue.

I've added a video for the Proving Grounds trophy since I had several questions for those wanting to eventually play the game. Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Can you PM me any tips on the car I just bought? I also bought another car called BMW M3 E 46 car.

I also missed the proving ground trophy again.I think it's the difficulty is causing the trophy to be glitched or is it impossible.

I used the BMW M3 E46 a lot actually, but I settled on just having a few chasing and engine upgrades to prevent a death rally on the track. Remember you can also experiment with purchasing any upgrades you want to buy and try out as they are all fully-refundable.

Difficulty setting will not matter for Proving Grounds and I have confirmed that. I dropped it down to medium in the video since most players are likely to have medium or easy after the tutorial.

Are you just not winning the race? If you are having trouble finishing in 1st, you can manually set the setting to easy after the tutorial laps or in the options menu before you choose career mode when you start-up a new save game.
