Online trophies: None

Approximate amount of time to (P): 50 hours

Minimum number of playthroughs: one of each campaign

Number of missable trophies: N/A

Does difficulty affect trophies?:

  • これぞ名工が鍛えし業物 requires Normal difficulty
  • 妖刀に魅せられし者 requires Hard difficulty
  • 信長の望む地獄へ requires Hell difficulty

Introduction

A little late, but I wrote this just in case there's someone else out there like me who figured that with the recent release of Sengoku Musou 4 that it was about time to polish this one off.

This game is a relatively quick one to (P), especially compared to other games in the series. It took me about 50 hours, though I think that if I had to do it over that I could do it significantly faster. It would be possible to (P) this without any Japanese knowledge, but one of the trophies (利休の説いた一期一会) would probably cause you to spend a lot of time slowly checking kanji to see if they matched.

Roadmap

Step 1: Clear all 10 historical campaigns

The historical campaigns (one for each ten characters) are relatively short and unlock reward buildings when completed that are very helpful for the full custom campaigns. You can run through these are the easiest difficulty setting. As you play, you will probably gain most of the easier castle town related trophies. As you play through these, try to defeat 100 enemies in a single battle with Musou Ougi Kaiden, take all guard posts in a single battle, and defeat 1000 enemies in a single battle.

Step 2: Create a custom officer

Just go to the option in the main menu. You don't have to do anything else with the new officer.

Step 3: Clear your first custom campaign

You can go ahead and do this on the easiest difficulty if you like. Once you've reduced your enemy to one last province, they shouldn't attack so long as you have more or equal number of troops in the bordering provinces. Recruit all available officers needed for conversations and keep running turns into you've exhausted all possible conversations (this won't be enough for the trophy). As you do this, you should be able to earn 2 million gold and build 300 buildings in your castle town. Don't worry if you can't, you'll have plenty of opportunities.

Step 4: Play the other four campaigns

One of these needs to be on Normal difficulty (to get a level 1 rare weapon) and one needs to be on Hard difficulty (for the level 2 rare weapon). The other two can be on the easiest difficulty. You should be able to wrap up all the conversation events by the second of these campaigns if you choose 1560 無双集結 and then 1600 関ヶ原合戦. 1560 無双集結 is the shortest campaign, so might be the best option for Hard difficulty (not that it's particularly difficult). Generally speaking, other than Date Masamune there aren't any officers you need for conversations in the Northeast part of the map, so it might be a good idea to leave that part of the map for last after grabbing Date early on. If you haven't received the Matsukaze saddle as you're finishing up your last campaigns, see the advice below. Don't forget to choose different models for your level 5 castles.

Step 5: Start a campaign on Hell difficulty and win a battle

With all the armor, weapon, and building upgrades gained in the above steps, this shouldn't be a problem. The 1584 小牧長久手合戦 campaign might be good for this since Hideyoshi starts so much larger than all his neighbors.

[Now this is the armor of a master smith!]

Obtain your first valuable piece of equipment

Pieces of armor will randomly drop when you defeat enemy officers. Their quality will depend on luck, the level of your blacksmith, the level of the 真眼 skill on your gauntlets, and the difficulty level. Pieces that qualify as "valuable" are easily found.

[To the Hell Nobunaga Sought]

Clear your first battle on Hell difficulty

Just start a campaign on Hell difficulty and win a battle. If you leave this task for last and use a character with good armor and weapons and upgrade your castle town with the reward buildings that improve combat, this should be no problem.

[One bewitched by a magical sword]

Obtain your first level 2 rare weapon

Visiting Saya at the shop will occasionally cause her to give you a quest that will upgrade your castle town's blacksmith. I believe the quests are unlocked as you increase the level of your castle. The quest will replace one of the rewards available in the following battle to be a special item. Bring it back to her.

Once your blacksmith reaches level 4, you will start being given tasks in which an officer will tell you that they have heard of a strong weapon. If you use that officer in battle, you will see that a rare weapon is available reward.

The rare weapon will be level 1 if on Normal difficulty, and level 2 if on Hard or higher difficulty. There are no rare weapons available on lower difficulties.

Max your intimacy with Saya

Saya is in the shop. Your intimacy with her will increase if you enter the shop. There's no need to actually buy anything, just keep going into the shop and you'll get the trophy eventually.

[The horse Keiji loved]

Obtain the Matsukaze saddle

The first of the only two difficult trophies. Saddles are a type of armor, which is sometimes dropped when you defeat enemy officers. There are 14 types of saddle. Each only drops once and they drop completely at random. The Matsukaze is one of two rare types, so having high 真眼 skill on your gauntlets, high blacksmith level, and high difficulty helps (supposedly). Matsukaze might be the first saddle you get or (if you're like me) it could be the 13th. There is a box containing armor hidden in an out of the way part of every stage. If you pick that up every time, defeat a fair number of officers, and are lucky, you'll probably get the saddle by the time you've finished all the other trophies.

But if you're desperate to get the saddle, there are a couple ways to guarantee getting it. Officer drop types are determined when they're killed and the contents of armor boxes is determined when they're picked up. So you can:

1. Lure a few officers near where the final general appears. Save.

2. Kill an officer. Quit to title if he didn't drop an armor box and reload.

3. Repeat the above step until a box drops. Save.

4. Pick up the box and defeat the final general.

5. If you didn't get the saddle, quit back to title and reload.

I did this on Hard difficulty (full blacksmith and 真眼) and managed to save with two armor boxes sitting on the ground. It still took me about an hour of repeating the last two above steps before I got the saddle, so I'd say the odds of it dropping are not great. I did this with Sanada Yukimura, so rumors that you need to use Maeda Keiji to get the saddle are incorrect.

[Encounter that persuaded Rikyu]

Obtain all Musou officer conversation events in 争覇演武 (campaign mode)

This is the most difficult, time-consuming trophy in the game. When you have recruited certain pairs (trios) of officers, they may have a conversation event at the beginning of your turn. What makes this difficult is that it can take quite a while for an event to trigger and not all officers are present in all campaigns. Notably:

  • Nobunaga, Mitsuhide, Nagamasa, Kenshin, Shingen, and Ujiyasu have died by the time the later campaigns begin
  • 斉藤道三, 太原雪斎, and 弘中隆包 are only alive in the 1560 無双集結 campaign
  • 木村重成, 羽柴秀頼, and 井伊直孝 are only present in the 1600 関ヶ原合戦 campaign. Other than 羽柴秀頼, they appear only later in the campaign. I had 木村重成 appear in 1608.

You can find a full list of the conversation events on the Japanese wiki. To make things a little easier (but only a little), here's a list of all the non-Musou officers needed for conversation events:

Recruit these guys whenever you see their name (and of course always recruit all Musou officers). Just as a word of warning, it can take a long time for all the conversations to trigger. When you have your final enemy down to just one province, just keep running through turns until you're sure you got them all. Also, go to your settings and tell it not to display conversation events that you've already seen. I also recommend not doing this when you've upgraded your blacksmith to level 4, as conversations will not trigger on turns in which you receive or fail a mission.

[Wealthy man who surpasses Hideyoshi]

Possess 2,000,000 gold

You need to have two million at the same time. This is easily done, it just takes a while.

[Warrior unrivaled on Earth]

Defeat 1,000 enemies in one stage

The key to this is to go to the final enemy general's headquarters, as it never stops spawning enemy troops. Just avoid killing the enemy general after he spawns. Attacking the troops on horseback may make this easier.

[One initiated into the secret]

Defeat 100 enemies with Musou Ougi Kaiden in one stage

Musou Ougi Kaiden is the musou attack created when all the globes next to your character are full and glowing. This shouldn't be a problem at all.

[Architect who surpasses Kiyomasa]

Unlock 100% of building entries

In addition to the normal buildings available to you from the start, there are ten officer-related buildings (see 戦国の名所ここに集結), ten buildings received as rewards from completing historical campaigns, and rewards for completing one, two, and three custom campaigns. Finally, when your castle reaches level 5, you have a choice between four different designs. Each of these also counts as a different entry.

There are three types of buildings that will change into a better type if placed next to a level 3 building of a certain type:

  • 市 will change into 座 if placed next to a 畑
  • 畑 will change into 水田 if placed next to a 寺
  • 長屋 will change into 屋敷 if placed next to a 座
