Introduction:

This game is derived from the Sanctuary Arc of the 20 year old manga and anime series, Saint Seiya. As a result, the back-story of this game is only lightly explained. Reading the first portion of the manga may be helpful for those new, it is not entirely necessary to enjoy the game.

The game is divided into two main sections: Story Mode, consisting of the Sanctuary Arc itself, told through the battles of five main characters, and followed by 5 lesser mini-arcs, detailing the events outside of the main story; and Mission Mode, consisting of Solo challenges, comprised of 3-6 story mode levels; Tag challenges which, despite the name, are a pair of characters fighting alongside each other, with the second either played by a friend or by the CPU, versus a boss and a number of lesser enemies in three consecutive stages; and Survival challenges, up against a large number of normal enemies, followed by a boss enemy, then repeated, likely ad infinitum.

Stages themselves are in two categories. The first are Roads, in which a character fights many weaker enemies along a long path. The second, a Palace, is an extended fight against a powerful enemy, typically a powerful Gold Saint, in a large room. Certain Mission Mode courses adapt portions of some Roads into an Arena.

Completing stages grants you CP, points that can be distributed to any of your characters to increase their statistics or exchanged for skills that any character can equip, and EXP, which can grant your current character a level, and a small increase to all of their stats.

I also want to give a shout out to BerserkerBR, who wrote a solid mini-guide for level grinding.

Alternate road map and levelling guide

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Initial playthrough.

I recommended to begin by playing through one playthrough of the Sanctuary Arc to start with. Ideally, it is best to begin on Normal, since Easy does not grant a trophy, but this is not necessary. Less skilled players may have issues with beating Normal with baseline characters and no skills. If this is the case, but you do not wish to play on Easy when there is no reward, Mission Mode, and all of it's stages, is open from the beginning and there are a couple of Challenges that must be played on Easy and are required for a trophy. Either you will gain enough experience, or decide to play on a lower difficulty.

Either way, complete the Sanctuary Arc to unlock a Trophy for each of the fourteen Palaces, a trophy completing the arc, the vast majority of playable characters, a few more special attacks for some of your main characters, and another, much shorter story. Completing the five following shorter stories, each unlocked by playing the one before it, unlocks several more playable characters, and a trophy for completing all stories.

Step 2: Higher difficulty playthroughs and Challenge Courses.

From here, it is a matter of completing the remaining difficulties that reward trophies in Story Mode, and the remaining Solo and Tag Challenge Courses in Mission Mode, replaying and improving your score to grant you an A-Rank as necessary, though this is only necessary for a stage in Story Mode on any difficulty, not every difficulty. While you're going through them, play through one Challenge Course using a character in their "Cloth Removed" version.

To increase how quickly you can progress through the harder difficulties, there is a relatively quick way to gain a great deal of CP:

With a strong Phoenix Ikki, at at least Lv17, equip him with the skills Readiness, Road to Perdition, and (if desired) Watermelon, while having the skill Athena Seal purchased. With this set-up, play through Solo Challenge course number 18, spamming his :circle: special move. It is a series of 6 Road stages, with your skills granting Ikki +999% damage, and unlimited Cosmo (meaning unlimited special attacks), but with the cost of dying in a single hit. Ideally, complete each Road without using a continue, though this only grants a marginal amount of extra CP. If equipped, Watermelon will give you three extra chances in each Road, allowing you to survive three hits without losing a Continue. Upon completing the 5th stage, return to the main menu, go to Ikki's stat page, and exchange Watermelon with Athena Seal. By returning to Challenge Mode, you can pick up the course from where you left off. Complete the final stage, remembering that you only have three continues. Athena Seal will greatly reduce your stats, but your +999% Attack effect will still defeat enemies in two or three hits from your :circle: Special. Upon completing the stage, you'll be awarded EXP and CP for all 6 stages as if you had Athena Seal equipped for all of them. With 1000 Attack, and no continues used, this can be as much as 120,000 CP, in approximately 20 minutes. On a first run, with a weaker Ikki, this can be from 60 to 80 thousand, which is still more than worth the hassle, as this is more than enough to max out any one character's attack and defence, and get any two to a sufficient level to beat any difficulty that Story Mode rewards a trophy for. As a downside, however, this requires a significant amount of CP to purchase the skills for in the first place.

The most useful skill in the game is Unbending Heart. This skill grants infinite continues, an unchallengeable boon when playing on the Challenge Mode's Gold and God difficulties. Combined with Readiness and Road To Perdition, even the most difficult of stages is only a matter of resolve.

Step 3: Clean up.

With the various challenge courses completed, there may be a few minor trophies that need to be completed. Most of them only take a couple minutes. The most tedious of them can be completed in an hour, though playing through the previous modes should already complete one third of the requirements.

Win 100 battles against Gold Saints

There are quite a lot of Gold Saints between three Sanctuary arc playthroughs and the various Mission Mode courses. If you have still not gotten this by the end, replay Mission Mode courses against several Gold Saints in a row, with Readiness, Road to Perdition, and Unbending Heart. Each Gold Saint should take a minute to defeat, at most. Do not bother with any course with a Road stage in it.

Any Saint with a high level of Attack and 7th Sense should be able to defeat any Saint on Easy quite quickly and easily with little risk. Using Readiness and Road to Perdition can be extra assurance if desired.

While this may be difficult to get alongside The True Victor, the same strategy applies. Simply avoid using 7th Sense, normal or Real, while following the above strategy.

Unlock all characters in the mission mode character select screen

Most characters are unlocked after being defeated in any mode, and a few are unlocked only by completing the extra story chapters. For the quickest route, complete the various story arcs (See: End Of A Legend). After doing so, only one character remains: defeat Aries Mu in the first stage of the first course in Solo off-line Mission Mode to secure him as a playable character. The trophy will appear after both defeating Mu, and completing the Marin chapter of Story Mode.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1115/019.jpgThe Same Attack Never Works Twice (S)

Use all Big Bang Attacks from all characters

Big Bang attacks are done by acquiring a Big Bang token during a boss battle with a Saint by attacking them repeatedly. Holding down the :r2: button and scoring a clean hit with a Special Attack will enact a short clip of that character using that attack against their target, and reward you with greatly increased damage. The vast majority of these movie clips are unique to that Special Attack, and you must see all of them, including all unlockable characters. Special Attacks are used with the :circle:, :r1: and :circle:+:r1: buttons, though many characters only have two.

The best way to farm these is to use a character who is either Lv1, or has Athena Seal equipped, and fight unclothed Saints in Mission Mode Solo Offline course 10. Equip Unbending Heart, and permit the Saint to defeat you. Roughly half the time, you will be urged to Continue by Athena or the Grand Pope. Should they appear, they will grant you a free Big Bang token. Simply connect your attack and repeat for all Special Attacks. You do not need to win the fight once you are done, but you must either win, or be defeated and choose not to continue. Should you choose to exit the fight from the :start: menu, the cinematic will not be saved to your Gallery. While these will count for the trophy, you need to save them to the Gallery to avoid having to do it again when the time comes for Axia Complete. To see what has and has not been seen, from the main menu go to Gallery and then Drama Theatre and look under the category "Big Bang Attacks".

A small number of Special Attacks do not have an associated Big Bang, and these can be skipped. If you look at your Command List from the :start: menu, your Special Attack will have a certain mark to display if they possess a Big Bang version or not. In addition, the first Gemini Saint possesses two versions of Another Dimension, but only one cinematic. While places exist in your Gallery for purchased DLC characters, they are not required for the Trophy.

Earn A rankings in 10 stages or courses

See: String of Miracles

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1115/631.jpgString of Miracles (G)

Earn A rankings in all stages and courses

For Mission Mode Courses, this is only a matter of being quick and scoring a lower time. For that, Readiness, Road to Perdition, and Unbending Heart can be a great help, despite often being hit and killed, but course times are quite generous to begin with. You do need to complete all Offline and Online courses in Single and Tag, but Survival stages do not count towards this, nor do any DLC courses.

For Story Mode, a great number of A ranks should be gotten from your three playthroughs. For any missed A ranks, they can be easily gotten by selecting the stage from Story Mode's stage select, then playing that stage on a low difficulty with a strong character. While high difficulties provide a bonus to your score, low difficulties provide greater opportunities for higher damage dealt, lower damage taken and a faster time, all of which will go a long way to getting an A Rank in Story Mode.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1115/405.jpgCosmo Skills Unleashed (B)

Use all Burst attacks while in Cosmo Burst mode

This is simply a matter of running, using light and heavy attacks, and using Special Attacks all while holding down :r2:. Most likely, you will get it in the first stage simply by trying out Seiya's attacks.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1115/142.jpgBig Bang Unleashed (B)

Use a Big Bang Attack for the first time

See The Same Attack Never Works Twice

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1115/FAB.jpgAwakening (B)

Pull off a Real 7-Sense move 7 times

The Real 7th Sense is done by pressing :l1: to block just as you get hit. Do it right, and you get a free 7th Sense, and completely dodge the attack. Do this 7 times, in any battle or number of battles. Aldebaran is a fairly predictable character, should you need to get the trophy manually. In addition, there is a Skill that increases the leeway for pressing the :l1: button, making Real 7th Sense easier to activate.

Remove your Cloth as Ikki, then put it back on

When playing as Phoenix Ikki, press :select: to take off your Cloth. Then, press :select: again to put it back on.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1115/B82.jpgA 1000-Day War (B)

Use a Gold Saint to defeat another Gold Saint

Self explanatory. The fastest way is to unlock a Gold Saint by defeating them in the Story Mode, then play the first Mission Mode Solo Challenge course against Aries Mu.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1115/661.jpg Pulverizing to Atoms (B)

Destroy 100 breakable objects

Breakable objects are in many places in stages. Pots can be destroyed with any attack. Pillars can only be destroyed with most Special Attacks and Cosmo Burst attacks.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1115/21F.jpgDodge the Needles (S)

Defeat Scorpio Milo without getting hit by Scarlet Needle

As it says. Scarlet Needle is a common special attack that Scorpio Milo uses. With a strong Cygnus Hyoga, play the Palace of Scorpio on Very Easy in Story Mode. You will need to defeat all three phases of this fight without being struck by Scarlet Needle. A counter will appear on the screen that shows how many times you have been hit, so restart the stage if that ever changes. Use 7th Sense immediately, then get behind him and attack once he's vulnerable. As long as you can do a lot of damage to him very quickly, this should be easy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1115/674.jpgRend the Skies, Destroy the Earth (B)

Use Cosmo Points to raise your abilities

Upon beating a stage in Story Mode or a set of stages in Mission Mode, you will be awarded Cosmo Points - CP - which you can use to improve you character. To make it easier, the screen for doing this appears after you are awarded CP, so simply select an option, and use some CP.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1115/C3D.jpgTo the Galaxies (B)

Upload mission mode data to the online ranking

In Mission Mode, choose either Single, Tag or Survival, and then Online. Complete the stage, and you will upload your score online. You do not need to do well at all, just to complete the stage - though for Single and Tag, A Ranks will be required for String Of Miracles. In Survival, you can die immediately, and this will count as completing the stage.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1115/A0F.jpgBlood-Stopping Master (B)

Use Shinoten to save friends 10 times in Tag Challenge courses

When your partner is defeated in Tag Challenge courses, they will lie on the ground, immobile. Go over to them, and hold :r2: to wake them up, and get them back in the fight. Repeat 10 times. Road to Perdition makes it so that your partner is defeated as soon as they are struck, so this will speed things up if you need to.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1115/210.jpgAxia Complete (G)

Complete your gallery collection

Unlock all characters (see: We're All In This Together), complete all story chapters, and view all Big Bang clips (see: The Same Attack Never Works Twice) to receive this trophy. Big Bang attacks for DLC characters do not count towards the trophy.

Since no one else has done one, I just whipped on up. Probably entirely unnecessary, given the opinion of everyone else here. I'll submit it once I narrow down some of the requirements, since I've taken my time. Mostly, it's only Axia Complete that confuses me. Unlocking all characters, completing all story chapters, and viewing all Big Bangs has only gotten me to 99%. Either something unlocks from Mission Mode, or DLC characters are counting against me.

I'm having major problem using Big Bang attack. I only managed to get a small amount of them done, not sure if I'm doing anything wrong.

I hold down R2 then use them non-stop for about an hour on Pegasus Rolling Crush, and the Big Bang clip/cinematic clip never seems to show up. Is this all based on Luck?

I'll assume that you've been landing the attack successfully. Do you have the glowing Big Bang token appear in the upper right corner, behind your health bar? You either have to keep fighting the boss normally until it appears, or be defeated and have Saori urge you on. No matter how many times you perform a Cosmo Burst Pegasus Rolling Crush without it, the Big Bang will never activate without that token.

Alternatively, maybe you're having trouble with pressing the buttons? You need to keep R2 held down, and squeezing down on R1, R2, and circle at the same time is a fairly annoying hold... But it shouldn't be the case for a straight hour.

If you have the Big Bang token, and strike the boss during a moment of vulnerability (that is, they aren't blocking, like they usually are) then the Big Bang will activate 100% of the time.

Some can be tricky, with long start-up animation, or odd hit boxes, like Galaxian Explosion, but... well, Pegasus Rolling Crush is not one of those.

One Question, DLC's make some problem with trophys? I read that the DLC's had some new missions, I need to rank A that ones too to get the A rank trophy on all the missions?

You probably shouldn't. However, that may be the case, and I will need to check. At a minimum, DLC doesn't count for getting all the Big Bangs, but it may count otherwise.

Don't worry, I had the Dohko DLC when I played the game and I didn't had to get A in his 2 missions to get the trophies. Actually I never played those 2 missions :p

The only thing is that the stats page will say something like "A rating Stages 87/89", but you will get the trophy for A rating all stages of the main game.

Ah, I already updated the guide yesterday about it. I suppose I should have made it more clear - no, the DLC doesn't change the requirements of the trophies at all. My two DLCs didn't affect either my required stages or required Big Bangs for those trophies, even though there are Gallery positions for the Big Bangs, and the stages are counted in the statistics page.

Yes. You're right, three characters earn new Big Bangs in story mode, that they can't use until they play it. Perhaps I could have pointed that out? I'm not sure. It seems relatively self-explanatory - you need to unlock all characters to see the Big Bangs of all characters, which you should be doing by beating Story Mode first. I did sort of mention that in the roadmap, but not in a particularly obvious fashion.

In hindsight, the real issue that should have been mentioned is that Shun has two Big Bangs in his normal form, and two more in his Clothless form.

Should I change that, and ask the guide team to update it?

The online one is "To The Galaxies: Upload mission mode data to the online ranking." To honest, I'm not 100% sure that you need to successfully upload the data, as it's never failed for me, but you certainly need to try. You don't need to upload all of the data for the All A-ranks trophy, since it's still saved locally on your save file, just the one.

It should work with an NA PSN, considering my experiences with other games, but as I'm not in North America, I can't be certain.

Hi, does anybody know if this game will get a US release? or do I really have no option other than to pay $90 on amazon?

Also could someone confirm please if the European version (the english version) DOES run on a north american PS3 console. I would hate to pay $90 to find that the game does not run on my PS3.

Thanks
