Risen 2: Dark Waters

Road Map & Trophy Guide

Road Map

Overview:

  • Offline trophies: 51 (1(P), 2(G), 7(S), 41(B))
  • Online trophies:none
  • Estimated (P) difficulty: 3/10 (Platinum Difficulty Thread)
  • Approximate amount of time to (P): 30 - 50 hours
  • Minimum number of playthroughs: 1.5-2
  • Number of missable trophies: 2 (Legendary hero and Detective)
  • Glitched trophies: 0
  • Does difficulty affect any trophies: No
  • Additional accessories required: No

Introduction:

Risen 2 is the fifth refresh of Gothic game. It is an RPG game with lots of combat, lots of simple but varied quests and relatively high degree of freedom to explore the world and die. Storyline is set in early firearms era with minimal magic. World is composed of islands and some areas on mainland, restricted by mountains. It is easy Platinum overall but final trophies tend to be annoying.

Walkthrough:

This game needs at least one full playthrough (20-40h depending on personal style), several hours on second one (depending mostly on your decisions from first one) and many reloads to get platinum. I would say that the least annoying way to get all trophies is to play two full playthroughs. This will make heavy grind required for Big Game Hunter trophy much less noticeable, but takes longer than using reloads.

In general your all time objectives are to kill everything, do every quest and steal everything that's not nailed down. Being so thorough is not necessary, but will shorten second 'half playthrough' and final grind. There is no point in playing on any difficulty higher than easy. Except for a few spots listed below, no quest or fight with any human can spoil anything in game so feel free to do what you want. During first two steps try not to spend any glory points except for getting sneak, pickpocket and lock-picking skills. You can spend up to around 60000 points for anything and still get Platinum in 1.5 playthroughs but it will take longer. I recommend buying maps as soon as you can to save real time on travels.

Step 1: From start to the story fork.

You start in Caldera which works as introduction and tutorial. Then you are shipped to Tacarigua. You have a companion at this point and can keep her with you as long as you don't get onto pirate ship docked on the island. I recommend doing all quests on the island before boarding pirate ship, using companion to kill everything except single grave spider. I consider grave spider to hard to kill at this point but you are free to try. I recommend not to complete quest 'Largo clothes', as an earring you have to give up to complete this is extremely useful.

When finished here you are shipped to third area: Sword Coast. You have companions initially - use them to get to natives village. One of the natives will lead you towards the inquisition town. This way you can safely travel between key points. From that point you have to work solo until the fork. Do all quest for both side up to the point where you have to choose one of them (this is clearly stated in dialogue options). I recommend doing everything you can in the area before choosing sides, as this is the point you will start second playthrough from. You should have over 30000 glory at this point if you are thorough. Save and make sure not to lose this save.

Step 2 :Farming glory

I recommend to go down voodoo route for your full playthrough but it's up to you. The voodoo route makes you fight with swords, which I found much faster to kill opponents and easier to use. A more important difference is the 'voodoo companion' which can heal you during fights. This healing can keep you alive and victorious through majority of fights in the game, even without any combat skills. It compensates the IMO totally useless voodoo skill tree. One more reason for going down the voodoo path is that the final muskets trainer can be accessed earlier than the final voodoo trainer, this may shorten second playthrough. During this stage you can do anything you want as long as you accumulate 61000 unspent glory and 17000 gold (but read Legendary hero, Detective and All rounder trophies descriptions). There is a limited, story-triggered respawn few times during the game, so you may benefit from visiting cleared areas.

Make a save with 61000 unspent glory and 17000 in cash. Now raise any attribute to the max, learn all related skills, reload, repeat. You should get all 'Learned everything about...' trophies. All rounder is not reachable due to either voodoo or muskets trainers not willing to teach you some skills, so keep this save in case of some mistake.

Step 3 :Finish the game

Complete everything else in the game. You should get all but 3 story related trophies, and majority of optional trophies. Make a save before sailing to the Water Temple and keep it. Finish the game afterwards.

It might be good idea to select one area containing large concentration of monsters and avoid killing anything there. You can use it later to obtain Big Game Hunter faster, by repeatedly killing them and reloading.

Step 4: Other side playthrough and clean up.

Reload the save from step 1. Finish Sword Coast missions on opposite side and open yourself a way to final trainer for previously inaccessible skill tree (Caldera High Council building for muskets, Maracai for voodoo). Collect money and glory to learn all skills from this tree that you haven't learned before. You should get All rounder trophy here. The only thing left is grinding remaining trophies, preferably using your overpowered character from first playthrough.

Trophy Guide

Earn all Risen 2 trophies to unlock the Platinum trophy

Hmm... how to get this one...

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/B69.jpg Knight in Shining Armour (B)

'Rescue Patty!' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. You get this one soon after the opening cinematics. Just go down to the beach.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/B8B.jpg Voodoo Pirate (B)

'The Ancestors' Blessing' completed

Story related, voodoo path only. You get this one after choosing voodoo path and passing the test in the Temple of Ancestors.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/876.jpg Liberator (B)

'Free Hawkins' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. This guy is imprisoned in garrison tower on Sword Coast. The key is on Sebastiano - steal it using your pickpocket skill.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/CB9.jpg Harpooner (B)

'The Titan Weapon' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. You get this one after the fight inside the Earth temple. This is the first of the two boss battles that require shooting Titan's harpoon into the glowing 'mouth' of the monster. Easy fight on inquisition side, trivial fight on voodoo side. There is an annoying, one button 'quick-time-event' at the end, after the first cinematic on titan's head.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/0CA.jpg Captain (S)

'A New Ship' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. You get this one while leaving Sword Coast. Patty will give you clear instructions on what to do. I have found no way to disable the cannons without a fight with city guards (known bug).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/BF1.jpg The Right Hand (B)

'Chaka Datu's Legacy' completed

Optional quest on Maracai. Talk to the village chieftain to learn about 'contest' for his successor. This starts a four quest chain, which decides succession and earns you this trophy and legendary item when completed.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/A5E.jpg The Hand of God (B)

'The Greedy Captain' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. Obtained after killing Garcia in Maracai and getting his artifact.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/853.jpg Provisions Master (B)

'Ship's Equipment' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. On Antigua you need to supply two ships with gunpowder, water, food, cannons and recruit helmsman for 'cunning captain'. This is a series of easy quests with few mini-games and can be done in any order. You get the trophy after reporting success.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/466.jpg Friend of the Gnomes (B)

'The Gnome Eater' completed

Obtained after completion of a quest on Isle of Thieves. Local chieftains send you to kill a monster. This is probably the strongest monster in the game and can be found sitting in the centre of the island. Kill, report back, get the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/E4D.jpg Tub Captain (B)

'Build a Raft' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. You have to build a raft to leave Isle of Thieves. It requires you to complete most quests there, except treasure hunts. When story brings you to this island for the first time you are locked alone there until completion of this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/8B1.jpg Cheese Knife (B)

'The Cunning Captain' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. You will get this after killing Slayne and getting his artifact.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/7E4.jpg Necromancer (B)

'The Split Soul' completed

To complete this one you have to recruit Bones in Maracai. Talk to him until he mentions his father and white flag. After that you have to find his 'ghost' in the underworld on Isle of the Dead and mention white flag in dialogue.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/391.jpg Mr Industrious (G)

Completed 250 quests

Every new location, every treasure, and most steps in quests are considered separate quests by the game. This one can be missed in theory, but it will take more effort to avoid than to get. Should pop up somewhere between Greedy and Cunning captain quest completion, some 2/3 of the way into the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/7B4.jpg Blademaster (B)

Learned everything about blades

This requires you to maximize the 'blades' attribute. See Tough Bastard.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/1CD.jpg Gunslinger (B)

Learned everything about firearms

This requires you to maximize the 'firearms' attribute. See Tough Bastard.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/684.jpg Rogue (B)

Learned everything about cunning

This requires you to maximize the 'cunning' attribute. See Tough Bastard.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/650.jpg Voodoo Wizard (B)

Learned everything about voodoo

This requires you to maximize the 'voodoo' attribute. See Tough Bastard.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/ABC.jpg Tough Bastard (B) (H)

Learned everything about toughness

This requires you to maximize the 'Toughness' attribute. All 'Learned everything about...' trophies can be made on one playthrough. They do not require learning any skills, just investing 61000 glory into the attribute is enough. Item bonuses are ignored. The best way is to accumulate 61000 glory, save and maximize attributes by reloading. As there is at least 120000 glory to obtain before the point of no return, this can be done without much impact on playability. There is no point to maximizing any attribute in normal play.

[http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/231.jpg All-Rounder (S)

Learned each skill once

Exactly as in the description - you need to learn every skill in the game once. There is no need to maximize any attributes for this nor using any skills. Blades, Cunning and Toughness skills can be learned regardless of side chosen but some muskets and voodoo skills are only available for one side.

  • The final muskets trainer is available after gaining access to High council in Caldera.
  • The final voodoo trainer is on Maracai or Isle of the dead after completing story there(the first one is easier to get to).
  • The final blades trainer is available after finishing 'Cunning captain' quest. He stops teaching you when you get ready to sail for Temple of Water, so use him as soon as possible.
  • The final toughness trainer is Bones in Maracai - you have to recruit him to get access to training.
  • All cunning skills can be learned as soon as you get your own ship.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/FE1.jpg Tour Guide (B)

At least 5 crew members on the ship

I think you have to get it during normal story progress. You set sail for the first time with 3 members. You get one from Isle of thieves and one ghost for Isle of the Dead. There is one optional crew member, "Bones", which you can get from Maracai by simple fetch quest, and you need him anyway for the All rounder and Necromancer trophies. DLC crew members do count towards this.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/CC4.jpg Birdbrain (B)

Used parrot 5 times

Parrot is a lvl 8 Cunning skill. This is most efficient way of distracting enemies in the game. This skill requires a lot of glory so you may not have it through normal game progress. You have to learn it for the All Rounder trophy anyway. Just assign parrot as left hand weapon and use it on enemies five times.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/648.jpg Drunkard (B)

Won drinking duel mini-game 10 times

I found two professional drunks in the game. One is on Tacarigua in pirate outpost, but disappears after you leave the island for the first time. The second one is Morgan in Antigua's tavern - you have to complete his quest (story related) to unlock the drinking option. It's worth it to play on Tacarigua to get the treasure map and some money.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/B88.jpg Crack Shot (B)

Hit 10 times in one game in the shooting mini-game

This mini-game is constantly accessible by talking to gunsmith on Tacarigua. Also it can be unlocked on Antigua's Gunsmith when you try to get 'something better' from him. During story progression you get to play it once while you try to convince helmsman to join Slayne's crew.

You have 10 shots, have to hit 10 times. You don't have to shoot every object thrown at you, so ignore the ones going to far from reticle. Sometimes bombs are thrown and you must avoid shooting them.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/327.jpg Kleptomaniac (B)

Picked 100 locks

Most of the chests in the game are locked and have to be picked. I recommend learning lock picking as soon as possible and opening every chest to progress smoothly through the game. There are far more than 100 locks to pick.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/6D3.jpg Digger (B)

Dug up 50 treasures

Second dumbest trophy in the game. There are only 20 treasures in the whole game i think, so it won't come naturally. Find some treasure mark, make sure you have a shovel and save. Dig it up, wait for "quest completed ..." to show - reload. Repeat untill trophy pops up.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/F4D.jpg Protector (B)

Won duel against Severin

Severin is an Inquisition soldier in Caldera just below your initial room. Talk to him to get into a fight. He is quite hard to beat at the beginning but you can return there later.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/D87.jpg Skinflint (B)

Acquired 1000 gold

This one will come naturally early in the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/D79.jpg Cash Cow (S)

Acquired 100,000 gold

See Made of Money

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/5BD.jpg Made of Money (S)

Acquired 300,000 gold

I think the total value of everything you can find in the game is around 100000 but it does not matter. Make a save when you feel rich (probably near the end of the game) go to any shop and sell everything. Then buy everything back and sell again. Repeat until the trophy pops up.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/CEF.jpg Treasure Hunter (B)

Found first treasure in the game

There are around 20 treasures in the game. You need to have a map and a shovel to get each treasure. After getting the map there will be a red cross on the ground where you can use a shovel.

The first one you get should be the one in the valley in the middle of Tacarigua. The valley ends with a ancient temple, you will find a dead pirate there with a map and a shovel nearby so everything to get you started is in one spot.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/8DE.jpg Storyteller (B)

Collected 10 legendary items

This is hard to miss. See Legendary Hero

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/6EA.jpg Legendary Hero (B)

Collected 20 legendary items

This one can be missed. Legendary items are placed in treasure chests, in shops and in the environment. Some are quest rewards. As searching everything and stealing everything is a must in this game, I only mention two items as they are the ones that can cause problems.

'Hangmans noose' - This is only one requiring monkey to get to. It is on third floor of storehouse on Antigua. Trained monkey can get there by the hole in the roof, accessible from second floor balcony.

'Broken rattle' - This one can reportedly be missed. On Maracai there are golden masks in the ruins. When you try to steal any of them from their pedestal you are stopped by a ghost of an ancestor. He gives you a quest to restore all the masks to their proper places. After finishing the quest you can get Broken Rattle from natives shaman living outside the village to SE. This quest can be failed by stealing any mask again barring you from getting the trophy. Save before starting it and be careful.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/050.jpg Beginner (B)

Killed 10 monsters

Impossible to miss. Kill everything that attacks you and is not human.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/D2A.jpg Crab Catcher (B)

Killed 10 giant crabs

Self explanatory and hard to miss. There is a lot of these on all the beaches in the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/192.jpg Deep Sea Fisherman (B)

Killed 50 sea monsters

It's probably impossible to miss. Kill anything that attacks you on any beach (crabs, sand devils, sunken ones and leviathans).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/2CD.jpg Pet Cemetery (B)

Killed 20 ambient animals

Kill 20 turkeys or monkeys or rats (or any mix) to get this trophy. Kill all of them actually - they are a source of glory that doesn't fight back.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/DB5.jpg Bane of the Beasts (S)

Killed 500 monsters

It is hard to tell what monster types count towards the trophy. It's almost certain some don't count. It is also almost certain that all sea type monsters do count. I got this whilst killing crabs, sand devils and Sunken ones. You should get this one about halfway through the game, if you kill everything you can.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/0E8.jpg Big Game Hunter (S)

Killed 2000 monsters

This is the most annoying trophy in the game and will almost certainly be the last one you get. It's hard to say which kills actually count towards the trophy (see Bane of the Beasts but there is not enough of them in a single game, even if you include all the respawns and Air Temple DLC. Either two playthroughs or a lot of reloads to get this.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/30E.jpg Just a little tipple... (B)

Drank first rum

You have to drink some rum during story progress but it does not count. There is little chance to miss this one during normal game progression but just in case: open inventory -> usable items and use rum:).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/6F7.jpg He Really Exists! (B) (H)

'Find Steelbeard' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. You get this one by walking across Tacarigua to pirate outpost, and getting aboard the ship docked there. To make your life easier do all quests on the island before getting this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/2A5.jpg Pirate (B) (H)

'Become a Pirate' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. Obtained after joining Steelbeard's crew on Tacarigua. See 'He Really Exists!.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/96F.jpg Pirate with Muskets (B) (H)

'Four Muskets against Crow' completed

Story related but only on the inquisition's side. After joining the inquisition you are given command of four men squad. Find them, do what they want to get them ready and set out towards Earth Temple to get the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/0D9.jpg Bookworm (B) (H)

'Following Garcia's Trail' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. You will get this one in High Council Archives in Caldera by reading one of the books there.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/974.jpg Detective (B) (H)

'Garcia's Masquerade Uncovered' completed

There is a chance this one may be missed. When you meet Corrientes in Maracai he sends you after some deserter. If you find him and lead to Inquisition base where your ship is anchored, you get this trophy. As side effect you later get into possibly the hardest fight in the game (against large group of well armed humans) that can easier if you fail this quest.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/E33.jpg Artefact Hunter (B) (H)

'Steelbeard's Artefact' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. This artifact is hidden on Antigua in a cave behind a large waterfall. I found the password to the cave on pirate ship in Maracai bay.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/A71.jpg Ghost Pirate (B) (H)

'The Journey to the Underworld' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. Finish Isle of the Dead storyline and summon certain ghost.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/677.jpg Lord of the Tentacle (S) (H)

'Defeat the Kraken' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. After getting four artifacts and Water Temple coordinates from the ghost you can sail there. This is a point of no return. The fight starts after a cutscene.

You need to hit the open mouth of the Kraken about six times with the Titan Harpoon. You are automatically equipped with the correct weapon at the beginning of the fight. The biggest risk is falling off the ship due to monster attacks so keep to the center of the deck.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/808.jpg The Curse Is Broken! (G) (H)

'Kill Mara' completed

Story related, cannot be missed. You get this one after finishing final boss fight. Single human sized enemy with a blade and not so much hitpoints. May summon monsters but it's easy to kill her before she even tries that.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/E95.jpg Seafarer (B) (H)

Travelled by ship 20 times

This one will came naturally, unless you planned your game extremely well. You gain the ability to sail freely after completing main quest on Sword Coast. Just sail between any ports in game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/996/A31.jpg Monkey Dance (B) (H)

Used monkey 20 times

You need the 'Monkey trainer' skill to get this trophy. It requires cunning at 6 to learn. The trainer is on Tacarigua in pirate camp. It is enough to let monkey out and retrieve it immediately 20 times (assign it to a shortcut to save time).

Many thanks for this guide. It was very helpful.

I think you should add a note that All-Rounder trophy can be missable in some way:

"Blades - Admiral Alvarez on Antigua. Note there is a bug with him, in that he will not offer to train you any further if you have told him you have all the Titan Artifacts. The only way around this is to load a previous save. Also note that you have to finish with Slayne's questline before he will offer to train you".

Unfortunately I did it in the wrong way...

There is another way to uncover the masquerade. After visiting the wall of fire (I found it by accident before the village) Corrientes tells you how to get past it. He suggests you go see the shaman. After talking to the shaman, the trophy pops. I haven't yet talked to the deserter again.

Hey by the way, how do you kill the Gnome Eater? Is there any chance by fair fighting? I climbed on top of some rocks on the cliffside and threw the legendary spear to him as long as he finally died..

Please resubmit this when you're ready to make the requested changes I sent via PM a week ago. PM someone on the Guide Team to have this guide re-opened.

*Guide Closed*

EDIT 1: I am really keen to clear up this misunderstanding but I can't do anything if you don't respond to my messages.

EDIT 2: This discussion is all academic now anyway since another Guide has been created and stuck.
