Introduction: Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow takes place in a dark time of death and decay. You play as Gabriel Belmont, a warrior of the Brotherhood Of Light, who is on a journey to collect the pieces of the God Mask to revive your beloved wife. However, pieces of the mask areprotected by the three Dark Lords. During your travels, you learn that the Dark Lords, the ones you were sent to destroy are actually the three founders of the actual Brotherhood Of Light for which you fight for. At the end, the God Mask was a hoax, a misguided attempt to bring back the dead, and ultimately sacrificing your humanity to stop Satan.

At the end of each chapter pertaining to the Chapter XIV DLC, I will go over how to complete each challenge for the particular level as fast as possible.

Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow still holds the traditional weapon system which also includes Sub-weapons. Instead of the Vampire Killer in most Castlevania games, the player uses a weapon called “The Combat Cross” which is formally the Vampire Killer in the description. The player has a Whip but due to the environmental change the player is able to combine moves in accordance to the combo book.

All combos must be purchased with experience points from a grimoire which shows you a visual representation of each technique being performed. You will be unable to use them unless purchased using experience points which you obtain by defeating enemies and solving puzzles.

Chapter XIV is a DLC chapter in Castlevania: Lords Of Shadows and takes place after the events of the original game. An Ancient Evil has awoken and bent on getting its revenge on the world. This demon, The Forgotten One, was created by the Bernhard family to wreak havoc on the world, however they lost control of the monstrosity. The three original founders of the Brotherhood Of Light before ascending into Heaven used all their power to lock the beast within the Bernhard’s castle.

There are a few things I would suggest before starting chapter XIV:

You will want to your Light and Shadow magic meter full and the best place is Wygol Village on Chapter 5-2 (credit to AppleKratue for the information) since it is so short, and once you close the holes with the ghouls just refill both meters. There is a health fountain here too, so be sure to use it also!

  • It is advised you have Ultimate Light for the first section before you meet up with the Forgotten One. You will be fighting a group of Swordsmen and Reapers in a small area, and they will overwhelm you on Paladin. However, Holy Waters are effective against Reapers as one throw will kill them and weakens the Swordsmen enough to grab them.

  • The challenge trial for this level is to get 100 neutral orbs from the Forgotten One.

  • An extremely easy way to get this done is to beat it on Paladin first and foremost, then play it again on Squire for the trial.

  • Patience is a virtue on this fight. It is ill-advised to rush in blindly and think you can just hack away and expect to win; instead, that will be your downfall.

  • Be sure to be cautious about your Shadow Magic usage as remember you are limited.

  • I will highly advise getting all the Life gems, Light gems and even the Shadow gems for this fight.

  • This is one of the hardest fights the game has to offer and is very challenging to beat on Paladin.

Briefing of the events from the previous chapter:

Entering the dimensional prison, Gabriel feels weak and is adjusting to the new blood from Laura. With the vampiric blood completely replacing his own, he comes across the Forgotten One, an entity so powerful he could not be controlled by the Bernhard family which lies underneath the castle. Due to the founders who originally sealed the Forgotten One, dead by Gabriel’s hands, Gabriel is forced to fight the Demon and prevent it from leaving the dimensional prison to the world of the living.

Once you start chapter XIV you will want to make your way to the far end of the room. Once you are there you will see a door which you can open with :r2:.

The room features two enemies which you have faced before, Swordsman and Reapers. If you are quick enough, you can open the door without ever facing the enemies; however, this is more luck-based if anything as you really have to be quick about doing this; although not impossible, it is just very difficult to pull off. Holy Waters work wonders against both enemies as both are extrememy vulnerable to them.

Once you enter the section with the Forgotten One, a cutscene will start then a climbing section. The Forgotten One will jump on the wall next to you and begin climbing upwards. Now double-jump to the first ledge and you see the Forgotten One trying to destroy one of the seals. The Camera will point to a ledge that you will have to go to. You will see a grapple point and you will have to double jump to get across.

As you move a prompt will say "The demon has sensed your presence", so knowing this, hide now. You will be near the ledge, so move left and up twice. If you are not within the parameters, you will be discovered and killed. Another prompt will say "The demon is searching for something" so do not move, until he has left.

Another scene will show the Forgotten One busting the first seal and jumping upwards. Now you will see a grapple point and as you move up, the Lava will begin to rise. The Camera will point you to a ledge to jump to to keep moving forward. While you are on the wall, press :square: + :lsleft: then double jump (:cross: :cross:) to make sure you do not fall into the Lava. As soon as you get to the wall, there will be an obstacle blocking your path, so hit :r2: to remove to the barrier from prohibiting you from progressing by pressing :square: as fast as you can if prompted. Now, jump over to the next ledge and do not stop as it is a race against time here.

  • Note:You can hit :rsleft:+:cross: here to maneuver a lot quicker along the ledges.

Once you get to the top of the platform you will get to a cat-walk section, but just for sake of time and this guide, you can double jump to the next platform without issues as the next part the Lava rises a lot faster than usual. You have to ascend up on a spiral wall while the Lava is rising. The best way (the only way, from experience) is to dash using the Cyclone Boots with tapping the :lsright: x2 while jumping in the midst of avoiding the Lava.

If you land in the Lava, it is an immediate Game Over and you will have to start over.

Once you get to the end, as you jump on the ledge you see the Forgotten One emerge from the lava. You will be promoted again that the Forgotten One is about to see you and to hide. As you continue you see three individual ledges. A cutscene will commence as the Forgotten One is destroying the Second Seal, causing a boulder to fall and Gabriel moving to the middle ledge.

As soon as you gain control of Gabriel:

  1. Do not move as rocks will fall from the left and right side.

  2. Move to the left ledge as rocks will fall from the middle and right sides.

  3. Now move completely to the far right, as rocks will come done from the left and the middle.

  4. Now move completely to the far left, as the rocks come down from the right and middle.

  5. Now move completely to the far right, as rocks will come done from the left and the middle.

  6. Now move to the far left, but as soon as you get to the middle, wait, then move to the left ledge. This being because you will notice a rock on the left and the middle, but to quickly maneuver to the far left.

  7. Now move to the middle, then the far left to avoid the rocks.

A cutscene will start, then the Forgotten One will fall into the Lava for a brief moment. Ascend quickly to the Grapple point and :r2: to remove the barrier preventing you from going up. You will grapple again to the very top, hit :square: and double jump to the next ledge. When you get to the next platform, just wait until the Forgotten One knocks the rocks from the ledges allowing you to continue upwards. When you get to the very top of the ledge, be sure to use :lsleft:+:cross: to hide from the Forgotten One. Now finally grapple up to the ledge to begin the next section of the chapter.

As you enter the area you notice the Forgotten One using his power to open the Seal of one of the Founders. Gabriel will break a piece of his armor off which is his Right Thigh. At this opportunity the Forgotten One notices Gabriel and they begin talking. The Forgotten One taunts Gabriel in the beginning and notices he wears the uniform of the Brotherhood Of Light, the very order for which sealed him (read Intro).

Even though the Forgotten One holds immense power and could decimate Gabriel, he is scared as Gabriel’s soul is dark with little to no light. He hides his cowardliness from Gabriel then begins to boast about his power, with Gabriel having little patience for this demon he states the traditional phase “Enough Talk. Have at you!”

http://i.imgur.com/Zcllnax.png

The fight will begin with the Forgotten One boasting, so take this opportunity to move in for a few easy strikes, then move as soon as he reacts. A helpful move to consider for this fight is the Guillotine Strike which is :cross: + :square: as you are guaranteed to hit him and have enough recovery time to move. This will also fill your focus meter if you land the second hit, so you can replenish any used Shadow or Light magic.

Once the Forgotten One has taken enough damage from his Right Thigh, he will jump into the air and land in the middle of the platform. He will throw a ray of light at you and try to blind you. You will need to synchronize block (:l2: at the right moment) this and send it back to him.

If you miss, do not worry, just be sure to get the quick time event shortly after as he will try and hit you. If you failed the block and survived the Quick Time Event, he will recover some health and you will have to fight him over again.

Once you finish the event with a synchronized block with :l2: just before the light hits you, he will then be stunned leaving him open for another QTE.

You will hit a specific button to break a second piece of his armor off in the Stomach Area. This part can be difficult due to the fact you have to jump to hit it, but if you happen to mess up, just restart the last checkpoint and you can try again from this point. He has the same attacks and will be boasting after you break off his armor; take this opportunity to attack and move when needed.

Once he has taken enough damage it will end in another animation quick time event. He will grab a huge boulder and try and hit you with it. Avoid this attack or not and grab the boulder. Finish the quick time event and you will slam the boulder on his ugly face, it then will end in a cutscene.

Trial: Absorb 100 Neutral Orbs while fighting the Forgotten One.

Before pressing on the level, go back to the menu by pressing :circle: until you see the Grimoire. Now from here, click on the options then the level configuration which will feature the difficulty option. Click on the difficulty option then select Squire difficulty. Once it saves, select Chapter XIV then the level on the left to start this Trial.

This Trial demands you get 100, yes 100, neutral orbs while fighting the Forgotten One. It is easier than you think actually since we are on easy. Once you climb to the top, hit the Forgotten One once to hurt him and react to the pain.

Okay, this is the most important part since the other times you can hurt him to make things a bit more difficult, since you have to jump and go out of your way to hit him. Once you use the Guillotine Attack on his Right Thigh enough times to get neutral orbs, he will throw a ray of light at you. Instead of throwing it back at him, let it hit you, dodge his punch, then rinse and repeat until you have 100 neutral orbs.

Briefing from the events from Part one: Gabriel is on the brink of misery, he has gone through so much, conquered every obstacle that has come before him, but for what purpose? Now is the setting of the “Dragon” for which Gabriel is becoming. He is tired, angry, and wants revenge on this demon. We begin part 2 of Chapter XVI with the mindset and birth of Dracula. This is the final chapter in the Lords Of Shadow DLC, but also the climatic beginning to the PSN game, Mirrors Of Fate.

As you begin the chapter, the Forgotten One is walking through the Lava and you are standing on a Molten Boulder. As the scene rolls make a left onto the next boulder, then you press a little bit forward, a boulder will appear behind you, jump on it.

Now, a boulder will appear on the right hand side and in order to reach it, you have to double jump (:cross:+:cross:). A good way to not over jump is to use :l2:+:cross: to fall straight down on the Boulder. Often times I would over jump, but with :l2: + :cross: (while airborne) you drop down at a fast enough rate to hit the boulder. You will see a boulder rise from the left-hand now, double jump and use :l2: + :cross: (while airborne) to safely make it to the other side to avoid the Lava Pit. On that same side, a boulder will appear, jump a single time in the direction to reach it.

The Forgotten One will have reached a seal and is trying to bash it away. This part can be a little tricky as it speeds up and if you mess up, you have to start completely over. Back on the right-hand side is another boulder you want to jump onto. In that same area, you want to single jump down to the next boulder. Now on the left-hand side another boulder will appear, double jump and :l2: + :cross: (while airborne) to reach it safely.

Now on the right-hand side a boulder will appear, just as before Double Jump and :l2: + :cross: (while airborne) to reach the platform safely. Now back over to the left-hand side, then the camera will zoom in on a pillar, jump onto it. Once you jump onto it, move to the right (middle) and then once the Forgotten One moves to the right, move in the opposite direction to the left side. Then once he decides he sees nothing, he will move to the other side doing the same thing. Now he will pick up the pillar and a QTE will start once you pass the QTE, just enjoy the ride to the other end. You DO NOT need the scroll for the full 110%.

Note: You can jump to a boulder and miss completely. You will not get a Game Over, but rather lose a lot of health while on Paladin. You will have to start over if you fall into the Lava.

After successfully completing the QTE, the Forgotten One will drop the pillar for which you now stand on, and will guide you to the other side to a new platform. Once you reach the platform, you will see bones on the ground. The Flaming Skeleton Warriors on Paladin are ill-advised to face in combat as you will want to have full health and magic, while fighting the Forgotten One. The fight is not impossible, but not needed especially on Paladin. We will come back to fight these guys on Squire (easy) difficulty and after we finish Paladin as it is required for a trial.

http://i.imgur.com/21CXbvG.png

As you enter the area of The Forgotten One, Gabriel sees him transferring his power to the final seal preventing him from entering the Human World. As Gabriel draws closer to the demon, it notices him and strikes him. Once this starts, you will go into a QTE and if successful, break off another piece of his armor in which case is his Left Forearm.

He will begin the fight by boasting, so take this time to get in a few strikes before he stops. His attacks have not changed since his last encounter, but he has one additional attack he brings to this fight. At certain points he will launch five (5) Spike pillars at the ground creating a trail of fire which can seriously hurt you. The best way to avoid these is to run away from him once he initiates this so you avoid taking damage. If you feel confident, you can double jump towards him and get a few hits in while he is in the animation.

Once he takes enough damage he will launch boulders on the ground. DO NOT MOVE just wait for the rock you are standing behind lights up then launch it back at him. He will be stunned and you will start another QTE which will break another piece of his armor in which case is now his Back area. His attack patterns are still the same, but be careful as these are a lot harder to hit than when you fought him the first time.

After dealing enough damage, he will throw three spears next to you. In order to stun him completely, you have to hit him with all three spears successfully, because if you miss one he will just destroy it and attempt to hit you, then heal himself afterwards. This is probably one of the hardest QTE in his fights.

When successful he will be stunned and you will finally knock off the last piece of his armor, his Head. Now comes the hard part, The Forgotten One will no longer boast and will move a lot faster now since he is close to death. This is where you really want to utilize your Shadow Magic as you will need every hit to count. I would advise you to hit him when he throws down the Chain Ball at you as this gives you a lot more time to hit him versus his other attacks. Rinse and Repeat the same process and when he reaches Zero Health, there will be a cutscene.

Trial: Finish the level after destroying all the Flaming Skeleton Warriors

Probably the easiest trial this game has to offer. This trial requires you to beat all the Flaming Skeleton Warriors in The Underworld on Chapter XIV and finish the level on any difficulty.

First things first, congratulations on beating the Forgotten One on Paladin difficulty. Now we are going to do it again, but on Squire difficulty. You do not have to, but it is advised to go back to Chapter 5-2, Wygol Village, to refill on Light Magic, Shadow Magic, and any Health lost from the fight on Paladin.

If you cannot remember where to change the difficulty, go back to the grimoire (hitting :circle: at the world map), go to configurations, scroll down to difficulty, then select Squire.

Now do you remember the skeletons you skipped while on Paladin? Play through up to that part again on Squire difficulty and this time beat all 16 Flaming Skeleton Warriors. You can fight them normally, but for the sake of time and your last trophy, use Ultimate Light (:l1: (hold)) then in the direction you want to go or Ultimate Shadow (:r1: (hold)) you will see Gabriel twirl the combat cross then in the direction you wish to go.

Rinse and Repeat until empty and they will go down with no issues.

I made this guide for those having trouble fighting the Forgotten One on Paladin difficulty. Also, I would like to thank AppleKratue for his help with the chapter locations and pointing out several key points, which have been added.

For any still having trouble, do not give up on this fight, as you will beat this. If you need any further assistance feel free to private message me. Thank you for you using my guide and good luck! :)
