Section 2. Introduction

Resident Evil: Code Veronica X HD is a remastering of Resident Evil: Code Veronica X which came out on the PS2 in 2001. Code Veronica was the last game of its kind to use the old style controls and gameplay from the earlier Resident Evil titles. The game has had no changes from the PS2 version so if you have experience from there you should have few problems earning the trophies. If you're new to this game you should be prepared to die and be frustrated as you learn the controls and everything else because this game is not forgiving and won't care if you miss something. Every storyline trophy can be earned in a single playthrough, but if you're not familiar with the game it may take a few playthroughs to earn the sole gold trophy.

Section 2.1 - Controls

The HD version comes with almost identical controls from the PS2. The :square: and :cross: have been re-assigned but everything else is the same.

:ls: = Walk/Turn

:up: / :down: = Walk Forward / Backwards

:left: / :right: = Turn Left / Right

:rs: = N/A

:square: = Interact / Pick up / Contextual Commands

:triangle: = Map

:cross: = N/A / :cross:+:up: = Run / :cross:+:down: 180 Quick Turn

:circle: = N/A

:l1: = Change Targets (while holding :r1:)

:r1: = Ready Weapon / :r1:+:square: = Fire Weapon / :r1:+:up:/:down: = Aim Weapon Up/Down

:l2: = N/A

:r2: = N/A

:l3: = N/A

:r3: = Inventory / Status

:select: = Options / Skip Cinematics

:start: = Inventory / Status

Section 3. Walkthrough

This was the last Resident Evil title that used the old formula of gameplay. What the old formula specialized in was having you hunt for and ration your ammunition on top of clunky controls and tricky puzzles. If you're new to this game you should be prepared to die and be frustrated as you learn the controls and everything else because this game is not forgiving and won't care if you miss something. The big obstacle for you is earning an A-Rank at the end of the game and this will be what stops most people from earning their 100%, this is no easy feat and will probably require multiple tries.

Section 3.1 First Playthrough

If you are new to the game then take your time and feel your way through it. This is an older style game and as such is unforgiving if you make any mistakes. Your ammo is limited and if you run out then you're out, there's also a limited amount of saves; saving require you to have an Ink Ribbon. By the end of the first playthrough you should have a feel for the game and most of the storyline trophies. If you are experienced with the game then this may be your one and only playthrough.

Section 3.2 Battle Mode

Battle Mode is unlocked once you complete the game and have a post-game save. Battle Mode is like a Time Attack Mode; giving you specific characters and specific weapon loadouts. The best thing about this mode is you have infinite ammunition, so all you need to do is worry about killing enemies as fast as possible and moving on to the next room. Upon completing a playthrough of Battle Mode you will receive a letter grade based on how well you performed. You must earn an A-Rank with all characters to earn the single Battle Mode trophy. Not every character is immediately selectable in Battle Mode; see the trophy guide for how to unlock each character.

Trophies Earned

(S) Battle Master

Section 3.3 A-Rank Playthrough

This playthrough is needed if you did not earn an A-Rank on your first time through the game. Earning an A-Rank requires a lot of skill, speed and knowledge of where the puzzles are and what order you can do them in. This is the most difficult trophy in the game due to the requirements of earning an A-Rank. All the requirements for meeting the A-Rank are in the trophy guide.

Escape from the graveyard of terror.

This trophy is storyline related and cannot be missed. After Rodrigo lets you out of your cell and you exit the prison you'll be in a graveyard. Exit to the other side of the graveyard to meet Steve and earn this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/966/02.jpgA Changed Father (B)

Liberate the changed man.

This trophy is storyline related and cannot be missed. After Claire gets saved from a Bandersnatch by Steve, you'll get to play a bit as Steve. At the end of the Steve playing he'll have an emotional moment and you'll earn this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/966/03.jpgBeyond the Shades (B)

Encounter a former S.T.A.R.S. captain.

This trophy is storyline related and cannot be missed. Once Claire has the red and blue ant decorations you'll have to go back to the Ashford Residence. Before entering the door to the residence you'll meet Albert Wesker and earn this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/966/04.jpgThe Fallen Tyrant (B)

Flatten an unstoppable enemy.

This trophy is storyline related and cannot be missed. You meet the Tyrant twice in the game and you'll earn this trophy after defeating him the second time.

Battle Spoilers

[spoiler=Tyrant]

First Encounter

Once the self-destruct sequence on Rockfort Island starts you'll need to head back to the airplane; on your way there you'll encounter the Tyrant. There is no way to run past the Tyrant, you need to put his face in the dirt. If you fail to put him down in time he'll push you into fire and kill you.

First Encounter Fight

For this fight I recommend the Grenade Launcher with Acid and Grenade Rounds. Fire two Acid rounds at him to drop him to a knee; switch to Grenade rounds, approach the Tyrant and shoot him twice. The Tyrant will get back onto his feet, so run back from him so he doesn't attack you. Repeat the 2 Acid to 2 Grenade rounds two more times to drop him completely.

Grenade rounds scatter so you need to be close for maximum damage.

Second Enounter

Once you reach the airplane and take off Steve will tell you the cargo door is open and Claire needs to go check it out. Be sure to grab whatever you need from the item box and then go through the door to start the second fight with this guy.

Second Encounter Fight

For this fight I recommend the Bow Gun with 30 Explosive Arrows or Grenade Launcher with B.O.W. and Acid Rounds. Before you start a fight you need to take note of the button near the door you entered the cargo area from. Your goal here is to damage the Tyrant enough to where he takes a knee and then push the button to toss him out of the plane. The easiest way to do this is with the Bowgun and 30 Explosive Arrows. Once the fight starts, ready your weapon and fire off all 30 arrows and once the last arrow hits him, push the button to end the fight.

For information on the Explosive Powder, see the Weapon Data section below.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/966/05.jpgThe Prisoner Who Lost Everything (B)

Defeat the nameless man and end his suffering.

This trophy is storyline related and cannot be missed. Near the end of Claire's adventure you'll be attacked by Alfred and Alexia's father; Nosferatu. Defeat him to finish up Claire's adventure and earn this trophy.

Battle Spoilers

[spoiler=Nosferatu]

Encountering Nosferatu

Near the end of Claire's Antarctic adventure you'll have an 8-point valve handle and use it to turn off the poison leak. Once the leak is turned off you'll be attacked by Alfred who will be dealt with. Go to where he fell and pick up his rifle. After the cutscene you'll be on a frozen helipad, try to leave the area to start the battle.

Nosferatu Fight

Nosferatu has two attacks; his first is he'll swing his giant arm around. The helipad is frozen and if hit you can slide off the platform and die. His second attack is a poison spit, the poison will flow from the ground and can blow towards you depending on the air. This fight isn't too difficult as long as you don't find yourself trapped by his poison attacks.

Nosferatu's heart is exposed and is his weak spot. I recommend using Alfred's Sniper Rifle (you'll go into First Person View) and shoot him in the heart; you'll know you hit his heart if he staggers, hisses and you see only red blood. You can drop him in 4 Sniper Rifle bullets if you repeatedly hit the heart. The hard part is you need to be relatively close to see his heart and he swaggers about. Take your time, steady your aim and make your shots count.

If you're not good at using the Sniper Rifle, I suggest bringing the Bowgun (normal arrows) and the Assault Rifle to the fight with you. Doing well with the Sniper Rifle is fine but if you can't kill him in those 7 shots you should always have a few backup weapons as this boss takes quite a bit of damage.

NOTE: If Claire gets poisoned during this fight you'll have an extra mission once Chris reaches her in Antarctica. Avoiding being poisoned helps your time limit to earn an A-Rank

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/966/06.jpgTo The Frozen Land (B)

Begin the search for your sister.

This trophy is storyline related and cannot be missed. After Claire's adventure you'll take control of Chris back on Rockfort Island. Once Chris learns where Claire is you'll work towards securing an aircraft to reach Antarctica, once Chris is on his way you'll earn this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/966/07.jpgThe Green Giant (B)

Say farewell to your fallen comrade.

This trophy is storyline related and cannot be missed. Once Chris frees Claire in Antarctica, they'll be separated and you can play as Claire for one more small adventure. At the end of the section you'll encounter Steve who attacks you. There is no possible way to kill Steve so do a 180 quickturn and run away from him. Steve hits very hard, he will kill you in two hits. The worst part is he will hit you at least 3 times so be sure you have plenty of healing items.

WARNING: If you do not have enough healing items to survive Steve, the game is impossible to finish. So be absolutely sure you can survive this part of the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/966/09.jpgDuty and Humanity (B)

Deliver some medicine to a man in need.

(Missable) This trophy can only be earned while Claire is still on Rockfort Island. Rodrigo, your jailer who released you is injured and needs his meds; you'll need to find and deliver his meds to him to earn this trophy.

Story Spoilers

[spoiler=Hemostatic]

The Hemostatic Medicine is located in the Military Training Facility. Once you enter the facility there are two Biohazard shutters on the right side of the room. The further set of shutters leads to a room where you get ambushed by Alfred. Chase him into the next room and you'll have two possible exits. One of them starts a cutscene where Alfred locks you in the room, the other doorway leads to a save room, the medicine is on the couch in the save room.

Once you have the meds you can go back and deliver them to Rodrigo at any time; when you deliver the meds you'll also hand over your lighter and he'll give you a lock pick. Giving Rodrigo the meds is required to earn the A-Rank in the game. To save time, the best time to give him the meds is when you head back to the Prison Facility with a Blue Crest.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/966/12.jpgFrom The Young Lady (B)

Receive encouragement from a young lady.

(Missable) This trophy can only be earned during a very specific point in the game. There is a small part of the game where you play as Steve; it is shortly after you meet your first Bandersnatch. Once you have control of Steve, go back into the room he left from. Claire will be waiting there and taunt him, Steve will leave the room again and you'll earn this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/966/08.jpgThe Arrogant Queen (S)

Put an end to the Queen's reign.

This trophy is storyline related and cannot be missed. This is the final trophy for the storyline. You fight Alexia twice in the game and across three forms, this trophy is awarded for defeating her the second time.

Battle Spoilers

[spoiler=Alexia]

Alexia Encounter 1

Playing as Chris in the Antarctic base you will eventually find Claire trapped in what is a replica of the foyer of the Spencer Mansion. Once you free her Albert Wesker and Alexia Ashford will both enter the area with Chris and Claire stuck in the middle. At the end of the cutscene it's Chris and Alexia alone in the foyer, you know what to do.

Alexia Fight Part 1 (Form 1)

Alexia only has two attack, both of which are easy enough to dodge. Her ranged attack has her throw blood on the floor and it'll erupt into flames and block your path. The flames will go away after a while but if you need them gone and have health to spare, you can take a hit and they'll vanish. Alexia's other attack is a point-blank grab attack which is also instant death; don't get that close to her. For this fight I recommend using the Magnum on her, she'll go down in 5 or 6 shots.

Alexia Encounter 2

After Claire has her final moments with Steve you'll be back in control of Chris. Once you're making your way to the self-destruct button you'll be on your way to meet Alexia. Once you push the button Alexia will appear and attack Claire. You need to shoot Alexia at least once before she reaches Claire.

WARNING: If you don't shoot Alexia fast enough, she'll kill Claire.

Alexia Fight Part 2 (Form 2)

Alexia has three attacks here; the first is a poison spray, nothing too hard to dodge. Her second attack is a giant tentacle that will pop out of one of three openings on her body. The last attack has her summoning little pod creatures that will attack you; the shotgun is the best weapon to deal with them. For this fight I recommend the Bowgun with 20 Explosive Rounds; much like the Tyrant fight she'll go down quick and can get maybe one attack on you. If you don't have explosive rounds I recommend the Magnum and Grenade Launcher (Basic/Acid) for her while the shotgun for her pods. Be sure to have some healing items that can cure poison.

Alexia Fight Part 2 (Form 3)

Alexia is now flying around the arena and her only attack is a fire spit. Her attacks aren't that hard to dodge as she has a pattern; she'll spit fire 4 times and then fly around a bit. Once she mutates the Linear Launcher is done charging; it has infinite ammo and is the weapon of choice. The hard part of the fight is hitting Alexia with the weapon; the Linear Launcher fires in first-person view.

There are two ways to hit Alexia; the first one is immediately firing once the auto-aim sets up your shot. This is a little random but is a better method for dodging her fire. The second method is to aim to her left or right, Alexia is good at dodging when you shoot. If you shoot to her sides there's a chance she'll dodge into your shot. The best part about the Linear Launcher is it only takes one hit to kill Alexia.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/966/11.jpgBattle Master (S)

Get the Linear Launcher from Battle Game.

To get the Linear Launcher from the Battle Game you'll need to earn an A-Rank with all Battle Game characters. To unlock the Battle Game you'll need to complete the storyline and have a post-game save on your profile. There are five Battle Game Characters; Claire, Alternate Claire, Steve, Chris and Wesker. Each character has their own gear, time limit and bosses to kill.

See the Battle Mode Guide for additional details.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/966/10.jpgWeapon Crazy (G)

Get the Rocket Launcher.

(Missable) To get the Rocket Launcher you need to earn an A-Rank in the storyline. The requirements for an A-Rank are pretty strict; you'll need an intimate knowledge of the game on top of skill and speed. You will earn this trophy after the credits during the score screen and only if you have an A-rank.

A-Rank Requirements

[spoiler=A-Rank]

There are various factors that must be met for you to earn an A-Rank. The big one is how long it took you to complete the game and various smaller factors as well. Each requirement earns you so many "points." To earn an A-Rank you must meet a certain number of points at the end of the game.

Time Score

04:30:00 or below 8250 points

04:30:01 - 05:00:00 7550 points

> 20:00:00 2000 points

*The clock is ALWAYS running, there is no way to stop it.

No = -1000

2) The speed it took you to save Steve from the Gold Luger Trap.

Fastest = +400

*There is no known numeric value, clearing the 4 zombies from the hall outside the room helps with this though.

3) Map discovery

100% = +100

Anything less = 0

4) First aid spray

No use = +1800

If used = 0

5) Typewriter saves

First time = -1000

Every time after = -50

*The free save after killing the Tyrant and before landing in Antarctica does not count.

6) Retry

No Retry = 0

First time = -1000

Every time after = -50

Total Score

10000-10800 = A rank

7000-9950 = B rank

4500-6950 = C rank

2500-4450 = D rank

2450 or below = E rank

As you can see, there are many things you must do to be sure you make it.

Weapon Data

Unlike the current day Resident Evil games, the older ones are willing to let you miss gear and suffer. There are no shops and your ammunition supply is limited to what you can find. Knowing where to find your weapons and what works best against certain enemies are key to survival.

Handgun (M935)

This is Claire's default handgun, she receives it after meeting Steve in the Prison Yard. It can be upgraded with parts found in a Duralumium Case that is found past the Blue Emblem door in the Prison Area of Rockfort Island. To open the case you will need to give Rodrigo the Hemostatic medicine for the lockpick. When upgraded it has a 3-round burst.

Recommended enemies: Base Zombies, Dogs, Bandersnatch (at great distance)

Handgun (G17)

This is Chris's default handgun, he has it from the moment you're able to play as him. It can be upgraded at the maintenance table in the basement of the Military Facility on Rockfort Island (the room where to find the Clement α).

Recommended enemies: Base Zombies, Dogs, Bandersnatch (at great distance)

M100P (Dual Wield Handguns)

These can be found as Claire on Rockfort Island. In the area where you first encounter two dogs is a building; its door is up the small wooden platform. Once inside the building take the door to your right. There are handgun bullets on the shelf near a window; take the bullets to trigger a scene with three zombies. The zombie that comes in through the window drops this weapon.

Note: This weapon cannot be reloaded and takes up two inventory slots.

Recommended enemies: Bandersnatches or backup handgun.

Bowgun

This can be found as Claire on Rockfort Island. Once you enter the Military Facility there is a staircase to your right. Go up the stairs and into the room at the back of the hallway. You'll be outside an experiment room that you cannot entire; the Bowgun is on the desk across from the doorway to the experiment room. Once you claim the Bowgun and try to leave you'll trigger a cutscene.

Note: This weapon has an infinite sized magazine, every time you get new arrows you can combine them with the weapon to have extra inventory space.

There are 5 packages of Explosive Powder equaling 50 shots of Explosive Arrows. Explosive Arrows are very powerful and I recommend saving them for the Tyrant and Alexia's second form.

#1. Rockfort Island (Claire) - In the Military Facility is a small office that has a locked locker in the back. You can find the key in the bath/sauna area of the Military Facility. Open the locker with the key to claim the powder.

#2. Rockfort Island (Claire) - In the Palace bathroom (1st floor) is a locked Duralimium case. You'll need a lockpick to open the case and claim the powder. To get the lockpick you need to find and deliver the Hemostatic Medicine to Rodrigo in the Prison Area.

See Duty and Humanity for specifics about the Hemostatic Medicine.

#3. Rockfort Island (Claire) - In the Palace's game room (2nd floor, silver key) is a roulette table. The powder is out in the open sitting on the roulette table.

#4. Antarctica (Claire or Chris) - From where you start out in Antarctica; go forward, down the ladder, past the double doors and enter the single door next to the stairs. You'll be in the living quarters of the base and the powder will be in the back of the room (it's the shining object).

#5. Rockfort Island (Chris) - In B1 where you first encounter the Hunters is the turntable platform with two wooden crates on it. The powder is atop the silver crates on the platform. Once you get the turntable key you can raise the platform to the 1st floor. Once there jump over the crates and then turn around and push the crate towards where the powder is; stand on the crate to claim the powder.

Recommended enemies (basic): Bandersnatches or backup handgun

Recommended enemies (explosive): BOSS-Tyrant, BOSS-Alexia 2

SMG's (Dual Wield Full Auto)

These are found in two different places. The first one is as Claire and part of the storyline to get Steve to hand over the Gold Lugers. The second place is as Chris once you're on Rockfort Island. While playing as Claire, if you've given Rodrigo the Hemostatic Medicine (and the lighter) Chris will be able to claim the lighter after killing the Giant Worm boss. After the fight go back to the room where Rodrigo was eaten and light the brazier on the wall.

Note: This weapon cannot be reloaded and takes up two inventory slots.

Recommended enemies: Groups of Zombies, Bandersnatches, Hunters, Sweepers

Grenade Launcher

This can be found as Claire or Chris on Rockfort Island. Once you've obtained a blue crest, open the box in the Military Facility to claim the blue key card. In (B1)one of the rooms you went through as Steve is a cage door with a blue card reader, open the cage door and it's resting on the bed. This weapon has numerous ammunition types that are applicable to numerous enemies.

Recommended (Basic): Groups of Zombies, Bandersnatches, Hunters

Recommended (Acid): Hunters, Sweepers, BOSS-Tyrant

Recommended (Flame): Groups of Zombies, Bandersnatches, Hunters, BOSS-Worm

Recommended (BOW): BOSS-Tyrant

Assault Rifle (AK-74)

This can be found as Claire or Chris in Antarctica. In the back of the room where you get the Mining Room Key is a row of green lockers. Opening the lockers will present you with this weapon.

Note: This weapon takes up two inventory slots.

Note: You can find a 50% reload for this weapon as Chris on Rockfort Island. In the room where Wesker releases a Bandersnatch, there's a console that lowers one of the specimen tanks. Check the tank after it's lowered for the reload.

Recommended: Groups of Zombies, Bandersnatches, Hunters

Shotgun

This can be found as Chris on Rockfort Island. You must pick this weapon up off the pressure switch to continue the storyline so this weapon is unmissable.

Recommended: Groups of Zombies, Hunters, Sweepers

Magnum

This can be found as Chris in Antarctica. As Claire you must be sure to stash the empty fire extinguisher in an item box and not leave it in the metal detector safety box. Upon reaching Antarctica Chris will have the opportunity to replenish it. If he does so he can put out the fire in the same room and location you find the Mining Room Key.

Recommended: BOSS-Alexia, Hunter, Sweeper

Enemy Data

Zombie

These are the basic cannon fodder enemies, nothing too difficult and easy to put down. The can come by themselves or in masses, either way they're a nuisance and should be avoided to save ammo if possible.

Recommended Weapon: Handgun, M100P,

Bandersnatch

These enemies were new to the series in this game and haven't made an appearance since. They're grotesque yellow things with only one arm. Their arm can stretch making their attack range greater, they can also use it like a grappling hook to move around. If you can't fight outside their range then do your best to stay mobile and only shoot once or twice before moving again.

Recommended Weapon: Grenade Launcher (Flame), M100P, Bowgun, Handgun

Bats

These enemies are more of a nuisance than the zombies. They only appear in a few rooms and have the sole purpose of annoying you. They'll gather around your head and swarm you, causing small damage and huge annoyance. You can shoot them out of the air or simply equip the lighter to have them leave you alone.

Moth

These enemies are more of a nuisance than the bats. They only appear in one room and have the sole purpose of annoying you. Their two attacks are to spread powder in the air or lay a larvae on your back. The powder is easy enough to dodge while the larvae can lay dormant for a while; when it hatches you need to mash your buttons or it will damage you; both attacks can poison you as well.

Hunter

This is where it gets real, these things are mean and dangerous. They're bi-pedal mutant frogs with claws and a real nasty attitude. They're difficult to dodge and can kill you rather quickly with their jump attack. When they get near you they stay low to the ground so you will have to aim downward to hit them successfully. I recommend killing on sight.

Recommended Weapon: Grenade Launcher (acid), Shotgun, SMG's, Assault Rifle

Sweeper

These looks exactly like the Hunters, but have purple highlights on their body. Please see the hunter information above, but these poison you when they attack.

Gameplay Tips

This is a simple list of gameplay tips and puzzle solutions that may have a person stumped. The game is stingy with its information and if you do not find the correct files a puzzles answer may elude you.

Rockfort Island - Claire

In the Prison area, when you make a copy of the Eagle Emblem with the TG-01, zombies will bust into the hallway through the windows. You can prevent this by activating the shutters before you copy the emblem. Once the emblem is copied, turn off the alarm and you can go through the hallway with no problems.

The password to the Terminal in the Palace is "NTC0394."

The password to the Terminal in the Gold Luger room is "1971."

Once you used the fire extinguisher, do not leave it in the holding container at the metal detector. Stashing it in a box is the only way to ensure Chris will be able to obtain the Magnum later on in the game.

The best time to give the Hemostatic Medicine to Rodrigo is when you return to the Prison area with a blue emblem. You find the Medicine in the Military Facility and instead of wasting time to give it to him, give him the meds when you're required to go back to the Prison area.

The proper order of the Ashford Family Heads

Veronica - female with purple dress and tea cup

Stanley - blond-haired man with two babies and tea cup

Thomas - young red-haired man with tea cup

Arthur - old red-haired man with earthenware vase

Edward - gray-haired man with book and earthenware vase

Alexander - blond-haired man with candle

Alfred - blond-haired child with blue ring on his right hand

Antarctica - Claire

The only enemies you find here are Moths, Two Spiders, 4 Cerberus' and regular Zombies. Once you reach this part of the game be sure to stash every weapon you can. Claire has one boss fight here and a weapon is provided for it. If you are not handy with the Sniper Rifle I suggest bringing the Bowgun, but not explosive rounds (if you have any). But be sure to stash whatever it is you don't need, because whatever Claire is holding will not be available to Chris and he will be dealing with plenty of Hunters amongst other things.

Rockfort Island - Chris

The temperature to see the Clement Σ is 128.

The oil gauge puzzle for the bridge, hit these buttons in order; 3, 3, 5, 10, 3, 3, 5.

Antarctica - Chris

In the room where you drain the water to get the Crane Key is a switch to activate a container full of extinguisher material. Refill the fire extinguisher and then take the lift down and put out the fire to claim the magnum.

After draining the water and claiming the Crane Key, a Sweeper jumps through the glass to attack you; be sure your weapon of choice is loaded.

The combination from the Paperweight is; AA, Crown, Heart, Spade

Once you're ready to free Claire, be sure Chris is armed for the Alexia fight and there are at least 2 full heal materials available to Claire. Once you free Claire you'll play as her for one last time. The last part of her adventure is the Steve event. Steve hits very hard (he'll take you from 100% Fine down to 35% Caution in one hit) and you will need to heal between his attacks. If you are going for an A-Rank you cannot use any First-Aid Spray for this. Anything Claire has that could be potentially useful for Chris should be unloaded, all Claire needs here is her handgun for a lone zombie.

After getting the biohazard key, remember to turn the power off otherwise you will not be able to get both gems from the Tiger Statue.

Battle Mode

Battle mode is more of a Time Attack mode. You can choose between 5 characters, each with different loadouts and you need to send them through 19 rooms with various enemies in them. To earn the sole trophy in this game mode you will need to earn an A-Rank with all 5 characters, which isn't as easy as it sounds.

Section 1 - Meet the Cast

Claire

Claire comes with a few weapons, the only one you should be interested in is the Bowgun with Explosive Arrows; this weapon will carry you all the way through the game and through the boss.

This Claire has a relatively short time limit, so you'll have to move quickly to get an A-Rank.

Time Required: 6:09:99 or less

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhFvLF_Vafs]www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhFvLF_Vafs[/ame]

Claire (Umbrella)

This is a different version of Claire, has her dressed differently and different weapons. This Claire has the Grenade Launcher with various types of ammo; I recommend sticking with the basic grenade rounds and the acid rounds.

*To unlock Claire (Umbrella) you must beat Battle Mode with Claire, any rank will do.

This Claire has a more lenient time limit, but you still don't want to dawdle. You don't need to get the B.O.W. rounds from the bonus room to reach an A-Rank, but if you do get them you'll save a lot of time against the Tyrant.

Time Required: 7:59:99 or less

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGYyvrdCgx0]www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGYyvrdCgx0[/ame]

Chris

Chris comes with a Magnum, this is all you will need through his entire game. It will one-shot kill every enemy (sans Boss) you meet, pierce their body and go on to kill anything behind them.

Chris has the strictist time limit in the entire game and it's the boss he has to kill that makes it hard to complete an A-Rank.

Time Required: 6:29:99 or less

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuFpd5cKqEc&feature=plcp&context=C3953251UDOEgsToPDskLYJ5Xgwf6whziSUu9tgl-R]Resident Evil Code Veronica X HD - Battle Game (Chris) A-Rank - YouTube[/ame]

Steve

Steve has the Dual Lugers and Dual SMG's, go with the SMG's. Steve's only possible trouble spot will be dealing with the few Hunters and Sweepers that appear through the game.

*To unlock Steve you must find the Gold Luger Replica in Rockfort Island as Chris. In the save room under the tank is a set of drawers. To get the Replica open them in the proper order; Red, Green, Blue, Brown.

Steve has a very generous time limit to make up for the lack of firepower his weapons have. You should have very few problems earning an A-Rank.

Time Required: 9:59:99 or less

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UyjH-Bau0E]www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UyjH-Bau0E[/ame]

Wesker

Wesker has nothing but a knife. This is by far the most difficult character to get through Battle Mode with. As such he warrants his own explanation on how to play.

*To unlock Wesker you must beat Battle Mode with Chris, any rank will do.

The first thing you should know; Wesker's knife hit numerous (6+) times in a single slash.

When you're getting ready to fight enemies, ALWAYS aim for their legs. If you're going against basic zombies you'll need to time it correctly, but a properly timed knife attack will drop a zombie to the ground and let you slash him enough before he can attack.

When you're fighting Bandersnatches a downward slash can actually have their attack miss you. Their attacks also push you back; a normal slash would only hit a few times while a downward slash will still hit numerous times.

When you're fighting Hunters/Sweepers... pray you don't die and be ready to heal. Slash downward at them and be careful because their attacks will interrupt yours and they hit a lot harder.

With that in mind, Wesker has the most generous time limit to earn an A-Rank; you have up to an entire hour. The most dangerous part though is the boss he has to fight; you MUST pick up the magnum in the bonus room, otherwise your boss fight will be night impossible.

Time Required: 59:59:99 or less

Section 2 - Play the Game

There are 19 rooms to get through. The first 18 are the same through the entire game while the last room is a boss specific battle.

Room 1

Enemies: 4 Zombies

You're in a narrow hallways, clear out the enemies and go up the stairs.

Room 2

Enemies: 6 Zombies (1 is playing dead)

Items: Green Herb (on a crate, near the exit)

There's an explosive barrel in front of you, it's quicker to just start shooting. Clear them out and go through the door on the other side.

Room 3

Enemies: 3 Bandersnatches

Items: First Aid Spray (check the phones)

Try to kill these as quickly as possible, if you get flanked you'll have a much harder time getting out of here with minimal damage.

Wesker: Rush forward and kill the one in front of you, then the second and then the third. The faster you kill them, the less damage you'll take.

Room 4

Enemies: 5 Zombies

Room 5

Enemies: 6 Zombies

There is a zombie in your face right when you enter the room, be ready for it. Clear out the room and go through the door that's up the stairs.

Wesker: Hold :r1:+:down: and mash :square: as this room loads otherwise you'll take a hit. You can also slash zombies as they come up the stairs without them attacking you.

Room 6

Enemies: 2 Hunters

Items: Green Herb (on a crate, near the exit)

A hunter will jump at you when you enter the room, dodge to the right (the other hunter comes from here) and kill them.

Steve/Wesker: Run to your right, past the herb and near the exit and attack both of them at the same time, be wary of your health.

Room 7

Enemies: 1 Sweeper, 1 Hunter

Immediately to your right a sweeper will come at you, run forward a bit to avoid its jump attack. Kill it fast before the hunter gets to you. If the hunter doesn't get alerted it'll be near the conveyor controls. Once it's dead go through the door at the top of the stairs.

Room 8

Enemies: 4 Zombies

Nothing too special, clear the zombies and go to the next room.

Room 9

Enemies: 6 Zombies

Nothing too special, clear the zombies and go to the next room.

Room 10

Enemies: 6 Zombies

Nothing too special, clear the zombies and go to the next room.

Room 11

Enemies: 5 Zombies

Items: First-Aid Spray (on a crate, near the exit)

Nothing too special here, clear the zombies and grab the heals before leaving the room.

Room 12

Enemies: 4 Zombies

Items: 2 Green Herbs

This room has 2 exits. The door to the right of the hallway leads to the bonus room while the door near the vending machines leads to the next battle room.

Characters like Claire (Umbrella) and Wesker need to enter the Bonus Room to get a weapon for defeating their boss on time.

Room 13 (Bonus Room)

Items: DIJ's Journal, Magnum (Wesker), BOW Rounds (Claire-Umbrella), SMG's (Claire), SMG's (Chris), M100P (Steve),

Approach the slot machine to claim your item. Each character has a few random items they can receive and every character has a chance to get DIJ's Journal. Once you got your item, leave the room to continue on.

Room 14

Enemies: 1 Hunter, 1 Sweeper

You're in a narrow room so there's nowhere to run. Kill the enemies as fast as possible and if you're Steve/Wesker be sure to watch your health.

Room 15

Enemies: 7 Zombies

Nothing too special, clear the zombies and go to the next room.

Room 16

Enemies: 4 Zombies

There are 4 explosive barrels in this room, all characters (sans Wesker) can shoot them to clear the room. Wesker will have to kill his enemies the old way.

Room 17

Enemies: 5 Zombies

Nothing too special, clear the zombies and go to the next room.

Room 18

Enemies: 3 Bandersnatches

Items: First Aid (on the desk)

Just like room 3, you'll want to kill these as fast as possible. The exit is the grey shutter door behind the desk.

Room 19

Enemies: Boss (character depending)

Claire

You'll be fighting Nosferatu on the frozen helipad. This is just like the storyline battle but you have a much better weapon this time around.

Claire (Umbrella)

You'll be fighting the Tyrant on the frozen helipad. This is much more difficult than it sounds because if the Tyrant hits you, you can easily fall off the platform and die. If you got the B.O.W. rounds then use those to quickly kill this boss, if not it's best to use Acid rounds.

Chris

You'll be fighting the last two forms of Alexia. It will take numerous shots with the magnum against the first form, you'll also need to kill her pod enemies that she spawns and be sure to heal if you get poisoned.

Once she starts flying it's a whole new game; there's no Linear Launcher, she's not at a high enough angle for a simple upward shot to damage her and she moves around too much. This takes a bit of practice but you'll need to press :r1:+:up:+:square: all at the same time. Auto-aim will aim Chris the right direction and firing the magnum while he raises his gun will have the bullet go at the correct angle to hit Alexia. Dodge her attacks and keep it up till she dies.

Steve

You'll be fighting the worm from Rockfort Island. Simply dodge its attacks and shoot it when it surfaces. There's nothing too complicated about this fight and you will have plenty of time.

Wesker

You'll be fighting the first form of Alexia. If you got the magnum from the Bonus Room this will be a very simple fight. Shoot her 6 times with it and she'll drop like a sack of bricks. If you do not have the magnum, get on her back and give one good slash before moving again. If she grabs you it's game over.

Grenade Launcher

This can be found as Claire on Rockfort Island.

Recommended (acid): Hunters, Sweepers, Tyrant

Recommended (flame): Groups of Zombies, Bandersnatches, Hunters

Recommended (BOW): Tyrant

Ah, this is good to know. I had a whole bunch of unused grenade types sitting in my item box at the end of the game. Something to keep in mind for my speedrun (whenever that will be). I had 6+ flame rounds which I didn't use at all and about 10 acid rounds which I apparently used too sparingly. Good to see which enemies have a weakness for which type.

On a sidenote, I make sure to save some basic rounds for the final boss. I don't like using the Magnum for that fight, simply firing 6-7 basic rounds in her face will usually take care of it. With those you don't need to waste much time carefully aiming like with the Magnum.

(Hm, that means I've got some leftover Magnum rounds to spare as well... *notes down*)

If you're making it through with ammunition to spare you're doing fine. Please understand that the recommendations are able to be flexed as needed though what is listed does capitalize on an enemies weakness.

Bandersnatches are weak to flame, Hunters/Sweepers are weak to acid and such. The Magnum (while I say save it for Alexia) can also be used to deal with Hunters/Sweepers and I'll be honest and say use whatever you must to waste them. I'd never recommend an acid round for a group or regular zombies because aside from not being particularly weak to them it doesn't spread as well as the flame rounds or scatter like the basic rounds. Basic rounds are a fun substitute for acid if you find Hunters/Sweepers because if all the pellets hit the enemy will go down and if they don't, they'll get stunned long enough to finish them off.

Long story short use what you feel is appropriate but don't be wasteful.

Yes, wasting ammo is probably the least of my worries for the speedrun. My biggest 2 problems are;

- Even though I've played the game many times before, you can be sure I'll forget what to do next at least a few times. The amount of backtracking in this game tends to confuse me at times. It doesn't help that you go through Rockfort Island twice, with altered routes the 2nd time (also applies to the Antarctic, but to a much lesser extent).

- "How much items can I take with me between this item box room and the next?" Big problem for me. I can never remember things like that, several times have I thought "Oh, I've got 2 free slots to spare, I'll take some extra healing items/ammo" and then it turns out there's a key item which needs to be picked up and of course I forgot about it, which forces me to backtrack to the last item box. It happens too often to be acceptable for the speedrun.

I can't do this speedrun just based on "good knowledge of the game", it's impossible for me (attempted once with the original game, failed!). Which is why I'm making notes now, which I will print so I can look at them during the loading screens. But my notes are far from finished, and I'm lacking motivation. Hopefully soon, but between Uncharted 3 & AC: Revelations... erm, not so soon. :p

Hi

Great guide! However: You forgot one important requirement for the "A ranking" walkthrough (getting the RL):

"The speed it took you to save Steve"

I got a B ranking since I l didn't clear the floor in front of Steve's trap before the cut scene triggered and the invisible In Game timer started:

AFTER the cut scene triggered, I entered the floor, killed the 3 zombies there first, took the red herb on the right (I forgot it when I've been in this floor the first time while I took only the pistol ammo at the window the first time), entered the door and lost time there again by choosing wrong buttons twice instead of C and E.

I met all other requirements of you. I searched for other information in the www then and found the following:

Basic score

TIME

04:30:00 or below 8250 points

04:30:01 - 05:00:00 7550 points

05:00:01 - 05:30:00 7000 points

05:30:01 - 06:00:00 6450 points

06:00:01 - 07:30:00 5500 points

07:30:01 - 15:00:00 5000 points

15:00:01 - 20:00:00 2500 points

> 20:00:00 2000 points

Special score

1) Did you give the Hemostatic Bottle to the prison guard?

Yes = +250

No = -1000

2) The speed it took you to save Steve

Fastest = +400

Average = 0

Slow = -1000

3) Map discovery

100% = +100

Anything less = 0

4) First aid spray

No use = +1800

If used = 0

5) Typewriter saves

No save = 0

First time = -1000

Every time after = -50

6) Retry

No Retry = 0

First time = -1000

Every time after = -50

Final score

10000-10800 = A rank

7000-9950 = B rank

4500-6950 = C rank

2500-4450 = D rank

2450 or below = E rank

In my 2nd speed run, I cleared the zombie floor first before triggering the Steve cut scene at the entrance, run to Steve, entered C and E - and did the rest as before ===> A rank and trophy

You don't need to discover all maps since you lose 100 points only (actually you don't lose them at all, you will not "win" them). However, if it takes too long to save Steve you will be punished with a loss of 1000 points. This will give you - if you met all other max requirements properly - a final score of 9800 - and a B rank.

The Steve requirement should be added to your guide.

Thanks again for your guide, got my 100% trophy rate now. :dance:

EDIT:

It is possible to get an A rank even if it took 4,5 - 5 hours: You will lose 700 points but you still get 10100 points at the end - or exactly 10000 for the A rank if you don't discover all Maps. However, in that case, you have to save Steve in a perfect run without any time loss by entering C and E immediately since you need Steve's "Fastest" bonus of +400 points at any cost (otherwise a B rank is your max reward since your max score is below 10000).

Hope that helps!

btw does the time still counting when pausing the game?? and how about when we're watching cutscene??

Yes and yes. Unlike in the PS2 version, you can't pause the game anymore. Going in the inventory or options menu doesn't pause the game. And the "L1 + START = pause game" thing doesn't work in the PS3 version.

As for cutscenes, skip, skip, skip!!! I'm allergic to games letting the timer run during cutscenes and even the end credits, but apparently many games do that (MGS series comes to mind).

so in order to get that gold trophy u really do have to remember everything from start to finish without looking at guide or even take a leak?? gosh.. i saw u have played ICO, is this worse than ICO because as u know it, on ICo u cant deal with shadow and a slight mistake can cause 2 hour trophy to mush...

Hard for me to say, I haven't done the A-rank run yet. But I'd say this is harder, because in ICO you can at least still save your game. And it's obviously shorter than Code Veronica. But someone else who has done both can answer this much better than I can.

I've done this back on the DC and PS2 so I'll fill in for you. Yes this one is a lot harder. There are more ways to die, you don't have an infinite weapon, the game is a lot longer, you only have one save (place to restart from) and you have to remember just about everything with the puzzles.

Which is one reason I like Resident Evil 2 more. I'm willing to say this and RE2 are the same on production value and fun; but RE2 was difficult without making things stupid. You could save and use first aid sprays but those took away from the "points" that would make up your final score. Save more then (I think it was) 6 times or use more than 2 First-Aid Sprays and your final rank would go down. This one practically wants you to do a full playthrough without Sprays or saving which is cheesing it in the difficulty part.

so in order to get that gold trophy u really do have to remember everything from start to finish without looking at guide or even take a leak??

You MAY use a guide - I got an A rank as followed:

First of all, I've searched a good Speed Run on Youtube, I decided to take the one from TrevorSeguin:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=craLknjLi6o]Resident Evil Code: Veronica X Speedrun Part 1/13 - YouTube[/ame]

Second, I watched the whole speed run to see the best route - and I've written every important step in a word-doc file.

Third, I added some important things to the word-doc you can't see in the videos e.g. bringing the Hemostatic Bottle to the prisoner (no need to do it for a pure Speed run but for an A rank).

I've printed it out, started playing and collected all ammo, herbs, etc. as usual since my target time was 04:30 and not a Speed run.

Although the clock is against you all the time, you may read the next steps you have to do without a loss of time - because while you are entering a door/new area, you have about 5 seconds to do so.

I've ended the game with an A rank at 03:41 that way. It may take some time to watch/write down everything but I found it very helpful - better take your time for that than failing 5 or more times at the end.

Since I'm speaking german I wrote everything in my language, so my guide is not that helpful for you. However: Here it is (for the german players among you):

The timer runs even during cut scenes but not during the credits: Either watch the credits or skip.

I didn't write down EVERY SINLGE move: As you can see, my first entry is "Strom aktivieren (Security Box-Raum)" = "Activate energy (Security Box Room)" - this is my first notice since I forgot twice to turn on electricity again and since the game play is straightforward until then. Next notice is "NTC0394 (NULL)" (NULL = zero to prevent entering letter "O" instead of zero) since the game play is straightforward again until I reach the main building - and so on.

I've used several code words, for example "Steve's Vater" ("Steve's Father") - that's the room where Steve killed him and I knew where to go without any complicated formulations. Another example: "Battle Mode-Ausgang" (Battle Mode exit door) - since I've played Battle Mode several times, I knew how to leave the room correctly. You may use other codewords of course.

Took me about 1,5 hours but it was worth it - my brain is not that good to remember all enemies, riddles, passwords, etc. anymore. (^_^)

Same for me; I'm not very good at memorizing such things, especially not for such a lengthy game. And that's why I'll pretty much be doing the same thing as you and write everything down, then print it out. However, so far I have been making notes for every single room... and then my motivation sort of faded away. I'm sure I'll continue it sooner or later, just not right now.

There are some rooms where there will be an enemy right next to the entrance, so you pretty much have to move away from it as soon as you enter the room. I'm making notes of little things like that too ("!!Zombie to the left => dodge right away!!").

I speak Dutch myself and can understand (but not speak) a fair bit of German, so I can understand at least half of your notes too. Might be helpful when I continue making my own. :)

Sure, feel free to use my personal guide, if it helps you. :)

Veel geluk! (^_^)

Danke schön!

Even though my first language is Dutch, I make all my gaming notes in English, for a few reasons. One of those being if anyone on a forum such as this one asks me anything about how I did something on my speedrun, I can just copy & paste it from my notes. :p

Btw, I didn't know about this;

A-Rank Requirements

[spoiler=A-Rank]Special Score

1) Did you give the Hemostatic Bottle to the prison guard?

Yes = +250

No = -1000

2) The speed it took you to save Steve from the Gold Luger Trap.

Fastest = +400

Average = 0

Slow = -1000

*There is no known numeric value, clearing the 4 zombies from the hall outside the room helps with this though.

Good to know. I always do #1 (even though I didn't know there's a penalty for not doing it), but had no idea how important it is to be fast during #2. :eek:

Thanks for the great guide! The puzzle solutions will help out during my A-rank playthrough. However you're missing the solution to the clock puzzle in the room behind the Gold Luger door. Might I suggest adding that in case people are using this and get to that point, only to find out you don't have the solution.

Other than that the guide is very detailed and precise. Including what weapons are best with what enemies is another added bonus. Great job!
