There are 4 different types of challenges that all have 10 ranks.

Treasure Hunter

In these challenges you will have a map and need to find the treasure hidden in the map. These are loads of fun if you do them without any walkthroughs, but if you don't care about finishing them on your own then view the walkthroughs below. To start this challenge you will have a random encounter with a stranger (Blue dot) being attacked by bandits, after you save him he will give you your first treasure map. There are actually only 9 treasure locations as the first challenge counts as challenge 1 when you receive your first map.

Treasure Hunter 1

Your first clue is a big rock and a tree under it with a piece of rope for hanging people. Clearly it's the hanging rock. Travel to The Hanging Rock. The treasure is hidden behind the rock.

Treasure Hunter 2

The clues you get for this one are a house by the river and a big cliff. Not only do you get a clue of a campsite but the actual location as well i.e "Rio del Lobo". Head to Rio del Lobo and pass the campsite. The second clue has a trail leading from the top of the cliff to the actual treasure, try to follow the trail on the map.

Treasure Hunter 3

If you've completed the mission where you help Seth find his treasure, then you will know the location for this one is inside the mansion in Tumbleweed. Go through the back of the mansion and enter the basement, the treasure is right below the skull.

Treasure Hunter 4

The biggest clue in this map is the actual location, "Rio Del Toro" and a tree. Ride to Rio Del Toro and find that tree. You'll notice that there's some sort of road behind it on the map and a big X behind it. Find that road with rocks and search for your hidden treasure.

Treasure Hunter 5

This one I found quite tricky as there are very limited clues. There are rocks that are shaped like fingers of some sort. If you look at your map (not treasure map) you'll see similar rocks at Crooked Toes. Head there and find a way to climb up the rock that looks like a thumb. Climb around it and you'll see the hidden treasure.

Treasure Hunter 6

If you've been to Mexico it's hard not to know what location this is as you pass it many times. The first thing that comes to mind is Ojo Del Diablo. Ride to the trail on the left side that the arrow is pointing at and find the treasure.

Treasure Hunter 7

For this map the biggest clue you get is a big rock in the middle of a hill and a cliff with a river. If you played this game long enough you'll recognize that rock from the loading screen. Head to Roca De Madera and ride around towards the river behind it, you'll see a little road by the cliff that's very steep, like on the map. Go all the way towards the end of it and you'll find your treasure.

Treasure Hunter 8

The clue on this map is a really big tree split into half and nothing but plains all around it. If you've been to Big Plains you'll know where this tree is or if you look at your map (not treasure map) there's an actual location named "Broken Tree". Head to Broken Tree and behind the tree you'll see the marking spot for the treasure.

Treasure Hunter 9

The last location gives you a big clue, a road with trees and mountains and a cave. If you've completed the main story you'll remember going to the mountain when you save Jack being attacked by a bear. Head to Nekoti Rock and enter the cave. Once inside look for your final treasure.

Master Hunter

For these challenges you will need to find specific animals, kill them then skin them. To start this challenge, skin a coyote.

Master Hunter 1

Collect 5 coyote pelts.

For this rank you will need to kill 5 Coyotes and skin them. Coyotes are literally found all over the game and usually travel in groups of 3 or more. The best place I found to find Coyotes was just North of MacFarlane's Ranch. They are more common during the night, but can also be found during the day. After killing a Coyote, skin it with :triangle: and repeat 4 more times to complete the rank.

Master Hunter 2

Collect 5 deer pelts.

Deer can be found all over the game, and are also more common during the night. The best place to find Deer is around the Fort Mercer area. Unlike Coyotes, Deer will flee from you so use Dead Eye to kill them. Kill 5 Deer and skin them to complete this rank.

Master Hunter 3

Kill 5 wolves with your melee knife and collect their pelts.

For this rank you will have to kill 5 Wolves with your knife. Wolves can be found all over the place but a good spot is in the Two Crows area. They travel in large parties and are very ruthless so be careful. Take out your weapon wheel by holding :l1: and select your knife. Hold :l2: to aim your knife and melee with :r2:. Kill 5 Wolves by meleeing them then skinning them and you will complete this rank.

Master Hunter 4

Collect 5 boar tusks and 3 armadillo carapaces.

For this rank you will have to skin 5 Boars and 3 Armadillos. Boars can be found on the plains South of Blackwater. There's a cliff that leads to the ocean here. Boars look like pigs but are dark brown and have tusks, think Pumbaa from The Lion King. Skin 5 Boars.

Armadillos can be found all over the place but are really common outside Armadillo. Just search outside the town and you'll find some in no time. They are very small creatures so travel on foot. Skin 3 and you'll complete this rank.

Master Hunter 5

Kill 2 cougars with your melee knife and collect their pelts.

This rank will definitely be your hardest rank yet. You must kill 2 Cougars with your knife and skin them. They are found around Wreck of the Serendipity and on the Northern hills of MacFarlane's Ranch. The best method I found was to use a shotgun and shoot a cougar once with Dead Eye. Try to avoid the face as it can kill it in one shot. What you're trying to do here is weaken it and making the creature flee from you, once you scare it off, equip your knife and finish it off by killing it with a knife. Do this twice and you will complete this rank.

Master Hunter 6

Collect 5 raccoon pelts, 5 skunk pelts, and 5 fox pelts.

For this rank you will need to skin 5 Racoons, 5 Skunks and 5 Foxes. Racoons and be found around The Hanging Rock at night. Skunks can be found outside and Pike's Basin and Twin Rocks. Foxes can be found in the Tall Trees area or Great Plains. Alternatively, the best place to find both Racoons and Skunks will be behind the general store in Armadillo. Skin 5 of each animal and you will complete this rank.

Master Hunter 7

Collect 5 elk meat and 5 bighorn skins.

For this rank you will have to skin 5 Elk and 5 Bighorns. Bearclaw Camp is a great area to find both Elk and Bighorn. Elk look like Bucks but are way bigger, almost like a Moose and Bighorn are basically Rams. Ride all around the Bearclaw Camp area and you will find 5 of each in no time.

Master Hunter 8

Kill a bear with your melee knife and collect its pelt.

For this rank you will have to kill a Bear with your knife and skin it. Bears can be found around the Tall Trees area. Just like the Cougar method, you will want to weaken a Bear by shooting it in the face with a shotgun whilst using Dead Eye. Try to make the Bear turn its back on you after it starts charging on you by circling around it. As soon as it turns its back on you, knife it from behind until it's dead. Stocking up on medicine is highly recommended. Kill it with your knife and skin it to complete this rank.

Master Hunter 9

Search Ojo Del Diablo for "Khan" the legendary jaguar and collect its pelt.

For this rank you will have to search for a "legendary" jaguar named Khan in Ojo Del Diablo. As soon as you are nearing the area you will get an alert with the location of the creature, it will be a red icon. Kill and skin it to complete this rank, use Dead Eye and a shotgun to kill it instantly.

Master Hunter 10

Search Aurora Basin, Stillwater Creek and Nekoti Rock for "Lobo" the legendary wolf, "Gordo" the legendary boar and "Brumas" the legendary bear and collect their pelts.

Lobo is a Wolf that can be found in Aurora Basin by the cabin.

Gordo is a Boar that can be found in Stillwater Creek by the swamp.

Brumas is a Bear that can be found by Bearclaw Camp or at the very top of Nekoti Rock.

Once you get near all 3 locations you will be alerted with a red icon showing the actual location of the legendary creature. Use Dead Eye to kill all 3 and skin them. Once you have skinned all 3 animals you will complete the final rank.

Sharpshooter

For these challenges you will have to do little challenges regarding your shooting skills e.g. kill 5 birds within 5 seconds. To start this challenge shoot any bird in the sky.

Sharpshooter 1

Shoot and Kill 5 Flying Birds.

Kill anything that's flying, 5 times to complete this challenge. This includes Crows, Songbirds, Hawks etc and you will complete this rank.

Sharpshooter 2

Shoot and Kill 5 Rabbits.

Rabbits can be found all over the place, but are most common around The Hanging Rock. Kill 5 Rabbits to complete this challenge.

Sharpshooter 3

Kill 5 Coyotes without taking any Coyote damage.

This is actually easier than it sounds, Coyotes can be found all over the place but are most common just north of MacFarlane's Ranch. Ride your horse and shoot 5 Coyotes to complete this challenge, to avoid being hit don't dismount.

Sharpshooter 4

Kill 5 flying birds from a moving train.

Go to MacFarlane's Ranch and wait in the Train Station for the train to arrive. As soon as it arrives board the train and climb the ladder on the train to the roof and wait for the train to start moving. As soon as you take off, look at the sky for anything that's flying and use Dead Eye to kill it. Do this 5 times and you will complete this rank.

Sharpshooter 5

Kill any 2 different types of animals in 1 Dead Eye Meter.

This rank is quite easy, all you have to do is kill two different types of animal in 1 Dead Eye Meter. The best method I found was to find a bird in the sky, use Dead Eye and Tag it with the :r1: button, then tag whatever else is on the ground and fire. Once you kill 2 different animals you will complete this rank.

Sharpshooter 6

Shoot the hat's off 2 different people's heads.

Go to any saloon in the game, use Dead Eye to tag the side of someone's hat (make sure it doesn't tag their head) then shoot their hat's off. Do this twice to complete the rank.

Sharpshooter 7

Kill 3 Bears with a single head shot each.

Bears can be found in the Tall Trees area. Whenever a Bear is charging at you, wait until it gets really close to you then use Dead Eye. Tag it with :r1: in their face with a shotgun and fire. Do this 3 times to complete this rank.

Sharpshooter 8

Shoot the hats off two people's heads AND disarm 2 people.

Go to the Tesoro Azul gang hideout in Mexico. These bandits will have sombreros and make it much easier to shoot off their hats. Not only will it make it easier but they will also shoot at you so use Dead Eye and tag their weapon with the :r1: button and disarm their weapons. Note: This has to be done with 4 different people so shooting off someone's hat then disarming the same person won't count.

Sharpshooter 9

Kill any 6 wild animals including birds, without reloading or changing weapons.

Use a weapon that has a big clip for this rank like the Evans Repeater. Kill any animal without reloading 6 times and you will complete this rank. You may kill the same types of animals to make this count.

Sharpshooter 10

Disarm 6 enemies without reloading or changing weapons.

Before attempting this, use all of your ammo but save one clip by wasting it. What this will do is not manually reload your weapon whilst in Dead Eye mode. Go to the Fort Mercer hideout, use your dead eye and disarm 6 enemies. Take your time and stock up on chewing tobacco or moonshine.

Golden Currant can be found on the South West side of the Great Plains area. This plant looks like a big plain bush and is very large compared to most plants. Collect 12 Golden Currant to complete this rank.

Survivalist 10

Collect 10 Violet Snowdrop then collect 2 more of every herb available.

mY26tmo.jpg

Unlike all the previous ranks, this one requires you to collect 10 Violet Snowdrop and 2 of each of the herbs that you've collected before. Violet Snowdrop can be found all over the Tall Trees area. They are purple/black looking and very easy to spot in Tall Trees. I would collect a little more than 10 though just to be sure I have more than 10.

Sometimes this plant glitches and does not appear where it should so if you're having trouble finding one, go to the area just north of the Manzanita Post past the tracks. The fields here always seems to have Violet Snowdrop.

After you've collected 10 Violet Snowdrop retrace your steps and collect 2 of the other 9 herbs.

All images of the plants belong to the Red Dead Wiki and full credit is given to them.
