Bronze Tournament Guide

Challenge 1: Welcoming Party

This is your first challenge and it really shows. There is nothing difficult about this challenge, simply aim your gun and kill the enemies. I suggest using whatever you feel like using, this is a good time to upgrade your weapons.

Challenge 2: Armageddon Outta Here

This is a bit more challenging than the last challenge, but nothing you can't handle. Use the same strategy you used previously, but stay on your hoverboots the whole time. You'll be able to quickly dodge flames and blade saws and knock a few heads in the process. If you want this to go really quickly, throw out some Tesla Coils and hover around in circles.

Challenge 3: Return to Sender

This time you have to kill ten Agronians with their own bombs. Note these are NOT the very large cluster bombs, these are the small orbs that hit the ground and blink. Simply taunt an Agronian by not moving very much, strafe jump the the side when he is about to throw a bomb at you, and then pick it up with your wrench and throw it back at the Agronians. If you are having trouble, try using the Sonic Eruptor. This is a very risky strategy but you can hit the bombs and send them back to the Agronians if you time it right and are careful not to accidentally kill the enemies.

Challenge 4: Death from Above

This can be a bit tricky. You CAN still kill them with ranged weapons, but if you want to succeed you will need to throw bombs back at the Agronians. They will appear on platforms far away from you, with some nice lava in between you. I found that for the first round, only return their bombs back to kill them. You need your guns for later. Round two, look for the platform with the Cluster Bomb throwers. You will need to either take them out with a Groovitron and then bomb or shoot them or use the Sonic Eruptor to shoot the cluster right back at them, shoot right before the bomb leaves their teather. After this round you will have simple madness. At this point, Groovitron the enemies with Cluster bombs and take them out any way you can. Rip the shields off those with them, they are just irritating. Once you've done this the last step is to take out the bomb throwers, be patient and take out one at a time.

Challenge 5: Bros Before Foes

Your first arena boss battle! You fight this giant beast called the War Grok, sounds intimidating, right? Well he's not. You get Qwark for help, but really he's just there to entertain you. Strafe around and try to keep him within a circular radius, this will let you inflict MASSIVE damage on him with some well placed Tesla Coils. Other than that, watch out for his charge, strafe back and to the side when he is about to charge, be wary of his ground pound waves, and hover around when he knocks you into the air so that you can dodge with ease. This really is an easy boss, just be patient and alert and some well placed coils and some well aimed shots from the pistol will take the twit down.

Silver Tournament Guide

Challenge 1: Gone in 60 Seconds

So time for your first Silver Challenge! You have to take out the enemies fast in this one, but you shouldn't have a problem doing this. Throw out some Tesla Coils and try to get a large radius, preferably with the middle of the platform being the center. Your Negotiator is going to be your best friend here, use it on the big guys for quick kills. Other than that, do what you do and just take out the enemies as quickly as you can. You should clear this with at least 20 seconds remaining with ease, just make sure to keep your Tesla coil barrier strong at all times, this will take out the weak sauce enemies and maybe even some middle grade guys.

Challenge 2: Fun with Fusion Turrets

So this time you're in a turret. You have to shoot 50 clusterbombs out of the air this time, and this is MUCH easier said than done. Start off by using the turret they give you, you will have three guys spawn on the left side of the platform. You should try to shoot in very small bursts so that you engine doesn't overheat and try to hit the bombs very shortly after they are released from the enemies sling. You should do this until there are six to seven enemies left or you are one hit away from dying. Now you need to pull out your Negotiator or your sonic eruptor. The Eruptor is the better choice if you are skilled at getting the max wave hit. Now simply strafe jump around your platform, wait for a wave of bombs to come, and hit the central bomb to start a chain reaction of the bombs. Be patient and alert and this will come in a few tries.

Challenge 3: The Art of Negotiation

This challenge is easier than putting the disc in the drive. You are given unlimited re-spawning Negotiator ammo crates and are told to kill everything. Shoot the enemies in the face and use strafe jumping to make sure that you don't hit the the bombs thrown at you. This is very self explanatory, and most likely the easiest of all the challenges in the entire arena.

Challenge 4: Name Your Poison

So this time you have to kill all the enemies before the poison gas kills you. This isn't very difficult, if you just do what you do and kill the enemies with your preferred weapons of choice you won't have any problems at all. The poison will take maybe seven points off of your life by the end of the challenge, don't rush and just focus on getting kills.

Challenge 5: Triumvirate of Terror

This boss battle you have to kill a Hydra Tank. The bomb glove, groovatron, Negotiator, Tesla Coils, and your other heavy hitters will make this fight a pushover. Whenever the tank lowers it's heads jump out of the way, if they are facing you, you will be hit in the face. Strafe when you are shot at with energy blasts, jump and hover when ground pounds or laser sweeps are preformed, and whenever the beast throws up an orange barrier rip it off with R2+SQUARE. This fight will take a bit due to the firepower needed to take him down but is not impossible and should be fairly easy.

Gold Tournament Guide

Challenge 1: Untouchable

Don't get hit this time, if you do you loose. Throw around a barrier of Tesla Coils to take care of weak sauce enemies and hurt the big guys, this is going to save you. Other than that you really need to use the Bomb glove to take out large quantities of enemies and the Negotiator for cleaning up the stragglers. The last few waves introduce enemies that shoot you so in these cases strafe effectively and make sure that you take those enemies out first. This isn't too hard and should come on your first or second try.

Challenge 2: Endangered Species

You have to survive three minutes without dying. This sounds easy but it really isn't when you have tons of Agronian warriors throwing bombs at you. You can do this the hard way and fight them off, if that is your method of choice then I wish you luck as the enemies never stop and will overcome you. BUT if you want to do this the smart way, you're in luck. At the very start throw on your hoverboots. Circle the arena using your thrusters constantly. If you accidentally go off into the lava hover back into the arena and start circling again. The warriors on the circle will not be able to hit you and the bomb throwers will never be able to hit you in time. Doing it this way should net you a win easily and without losing any health.

Challenge 3: The Quick and the Dead

Take out 100 of these guys in around a minute and a half. You should use the same strategy you used for the last challenge of this type, coils, negotiator, bomb glove. You win, really this is just as easy as the last one.

Challenge 4: Agorian Roulette

This time you have a cycling weapons round, there really is no help I can give since you are given weapons at random. Just strafe around, make due with what you have, and when you get a good weapon spam the hell out of it.

Challenge 5: Double Jeopardy

Tag Team Boss Battle Time! Honestly, there is no easy way to do this as ammo is scarce and the fight is long. If you are smart you will save your big guns for later and try to knock as much health off as possible. Use the Groovatron when you really need it and only then, you will want to have as many balls as you can at your disposal. Use your coils wisely, preferably when you have a groovatron ball out. Make sure that you make EVERY shot count, mid way through you will get an ammo drop, grab them all. Keep at it and you will win, make sure you've bought all the armor upgrades available as well.

Raritanium Tournament Guide

Challenge 1: Fire Proof

Finally the Raritanium Tournament! So this challenge is anything but, all you have to do is kill a bunch of pyrospinners before they reach the other end of the strip using only your wrench and the shotgun. You have ammo crates everywhere so make use of them by going crazy. Get right up in their face around the spawn point so that you have plenty of time to let them get down to the other end before they can make it, this way you have time to grab ammo and kill them.

Challenge 2: Toxic Engagement

Kill the War Grok with only your wrench. Sound hard? Add gas to the arena. Now is it hard? This really isn't as bad as it sounds though, use the standard strafe dodge but this time replace shooting with throwing your wrench. You can hit him from far away and you won't risk getting hit in the face. Crates of health respawn in the middle so hit them as soon as they appear and keep at him, the gas affects him too so you should have most your health when he goes down.

Challenge 3: The Exterminator

Good lord, this challenge isn't even fair. You are given the Omnisoaker full of Nectar and are told to kill the enemies with this and Tetramites. Start off by flying over to the platform in the middle aiming at the enemies to the right of your view first. Jump over the Tetramites and the soak the other enemies with nectar. This is how most of the battle will go, you flying to one side and then strafing backwards while you shoot nectar in front of you and on your enemies. If you're having trouble then try hoverbooting, you can get out of their way that way.

Challenge 4: Battery Bots on Strike

The only hard part of this one is finding the battery bots. Throw out Groovatrons, mines, Rifts, or whatever area affecting weapons you have to subdue enemies while you throw the bots into switches. You can wrench throw to get them which I suggest, you should focus soley on this aspect of the challenge. Zurkons are good at hurting enemies a bit so have one out at all times. Go quickly as you have a timer.

Challenge 5: Overkill

Those who remember The Qwarktastic Challenge from Tools of Destruction will laugh at this one. That being said, you still need to have almost if not all weapons at V5. I did this without the RYNO V so not having it still makes the challenge possible if not still easy. You should have atleast 100 health and the last available armor on you before you start. The first seven rounds use a combination of the Dynamo and your wrench only, if you want use the pistol but it's a bit weak.

Rounds 8 through 12 should be fought using the bomb glove, shotgun, Zurkon, and your wrench. Always have a Zurkon out, they will be more helpful than you would think. Keep the shotgun for larger spreads of enemies. Make sure you have the shock mod and the spread trigger on so that you can hit more enemies and shock them. For the Bomb glove, the toxic mod and shockwave effect are deadly. Don't use any of your larger area of effect weapons, you'll need them later.

Rounds 13 through 18 are brutal. You'll be faced with Agronian meatheads running at you, usually with shields. For these groups you need to throw out your groovatron. You can easily kill them all if not most before the ball dies, just make sure that you place your rift well. If you are caught at one end with lots of them coming at you, throw on your boots, dash to the other end, and set up some Tesla Coils. Use the Judicator to take out groups at once, don't use it on just one.

Now for the Grok. Use your weaker weapons on him at first, not the cryo mines though. Make sure you sitll have plenty of them. Zurkon, the shotgun, the bomb glove, judicator, the dynamo, and the coils are your main weapons of choice, if you're almost dead bring out the big boys but try to save them for the next round. You've fought him three or four times now so this shouldn't be too tough, just be smart and patient.

Now for the Hydra Tank. Pull out your Cryomines and let loose. At the same time, throw any coils down at the base of the tank. Now pull out the Doom Blades and sons of Carnage. Alternate between the two depending on if the tank is moving. When the tank is about to shoot out death rays, magnet it to cancel the attack. You'll need the cannon to be successful in this though.

That does it for the challenge. Overall your strategy should be conserving ammo when facing the weak and letting loose when facing the strong. The hoverboots can get you out of some sticky situations and if you're bold a time bomb or two can make a world of difference. It's tricky, but not impossible. Keep at it and you'll become familiar with this strategy and the enemies to the degree that you'll get through it with flying colors.

Gold Bolt #1: First level as Ratchet, once you raise the first bridge for Captain Dumbass, there is a Gold Bolt to your right that you cant access at the beginning of the game. Come back here with Hoverboots.

Gold Bolt #2: Once you progress farther into the level, you will run into a women thing asking to save her children. Save the first, turn around and run to the child that is to your left (according to the ingame map icons). Save that child, and you will notice a brown box up on a ledge. Jump up and behind the box is a hidden path. At the end of the path is the first Gold Bolt you can obtain.

Gold Bolt#2: Continue into the level and into the base. After you swing across and defeat all the enemies, go through the door. It's sitting on top of the ledge right in front of you, just double jump to get it.

Molonoth Fields

Gold Bolt #1: After you finish the Hoverboots training, you are supposed to go forward to your ship...Well, don't do that. Turn around and go up the ramp. You will see a Zoni as you progress. On the next platform, the Zoni is trying to lead you forward, but don't. Instead go to your left where the Compactors are first, and at the end of the conveyor belt is the Gold Bolt.

Gold Bolt #2 : Enter the level and go down the path about...10 feet. Look to your right. Enjoy!

Gold Bolt #3: Once you enter The Hollow, your first jump will be onto an area that has a spring pad. Well don't use it quite yet, and fall off in front of the spring. Should be by the base of the cliff.

Krelli Canyon

Gold Bolt #1: Once you raise the bridge, jump back up. You will see it on your left. Hoverboot dash and than glide to it.

Gold Bolt #2: Right after you cross the bridge, look through the grated wall. You can see the Bolt. You have to cut the vines on the wall. You have to come back once you obtain the Omnisoaker. Suck up the nectar and shoot it on the vines so the Tetramites eat through them. Collect your shiny

Gold Bolt #3: After you cross the next bridge after the Tetramites, you will come to a stream. Suck up some water with your Omnisoaker and shoot the plant. Use it to get up on the ledge for your shiny Bolt.

Gold Bolt #4: After you kill the first Hydra tank, turn left and go up the hill that has Hoverboot Dash symbols at the top of it. Before the arrows, look to your left, you will see the Bolt sitting on a rock you couldn't reach just by jumping. Hoverboot Dash and glide to it.

Gold Bolt #5: After getting #4, go back on that rock and follow the arrows. Once up top the path will split, stay to the right. You will see #5

Zalafar - Tombli Outpost

Gold Bolt #1: After you use the Omnisoaker to help the guy, jump on the vine and ride across. Turn the Hoverboot pad to the right arrows to the other side. Use the bumber to jump to the platform behind you, where the Hoverboot kick pads didn't take you. Run to the right and you will see the Bolt

Valkyrie Citadel

Gold Bolt #1: After you get the oil for the bolt spinner, get on it and jump onto the hoverboot kick pads. Once you reach the second one, stop. Fall off it and glide onto the rock. You'll notice Swingshot lights. Work your way around and to the top for the Gold Bolt.

Gold Bolt #2: After you get Bolt #1, head back to the bolt spinner and continue. Once you reach the other side, you'll notice more Swingshot lights. Swing across for the Bolt.

Gold Bolt #3: After you beat her 3rd challenge (The one with the battery robots) open the other doors and one of them will have the Bolt.

Gimlick Valley

Gold Bolt #1: Press select and look at your map. It's at the very bottom of the map, the piece of land that has a purple line across it. Just jump up here and you will see it. It's near the patch of land where you plant the third seed during the story. It's the patch farthest away from your ship.

Remaining Bolts: For the remaining bolts, you need to either win arena battles or go to moons. When you fly by a moon, it will tell you if there is a bolt there you need to get. The treasure mapper, won in the Raritanium Tournament, will tell you where exactly each bolt is.

Combat and Strategy Guide

General Techniques:

Strafing:

Strafing is vital to success. Strafe with L2 and hold it down at all times in combat. This will give you a general view of the action without having many blind spots. You will be able to maneuver with great finess which results in less pain for you and more pain for them. Jumping from side to side is useful when being attacked with wave attacks and when trying to jump over small enemies. This is a technique you must master quickly to be effective in combat.

Hoverbooting:

You may think these are worthless except during boot course but you are dead wrong. The boots are great in combat to get you out of the middle of a dog pile. Use them to get to crates of ammo and health in a sticky situation. Use them to get across large maps quickly to save time and catch enemies off guard. Use them wisely and learn to get a feel for them early on, they are vital to your success.

Clank Jumping:

Once you have Clank you can combine him with the Hoverboots for massive jumps. There are no sections that really require you to do this but this is merely an addition to your hoverboot technique. Boost up with the boots and then launch into a Clank hover for massive jumps. This can get you out of sticky situations or even get you through them before the happen.

Time Bombs:

These are highly underrated. You will get these towards the end but should use them alot. You can slow down enemies this way giving you time to move out of the way of an attack or give you time to set up a combo. There are no portions of the story which require you to use the bombs once you get Clank back but you should use them frequently nonetheless.

Bait:

Low on health? No crates in site? Almost out of ammo? If you answered yes to these you need some bait. Most sections will have some form of assistance be it Azimuth, Qwark, Fongoids, or whoever. Let them take the brunt of the fighting to weaken the enemies and give you some time to heal or formulate a plan. This may seem low but it can save you a lot of time and money. Don't be afraid to use this tactic.

Weapon Tips:

  • The sonic eruptor is good for small crowds of enemies. With its range and area of effect it is great for clearing little groups of grunts that you don't want to waste your precious ammo on.
  • The constructo guns are good for a variety of situations. Mix around your mods and find out combos that work well for you. Skilled players will learn to use these weapons for effecting enemies over time rather than a straight up attack.
  • Use Area effect weapons often. The rift ripper, groovatron, Tesla Coils, Bomb Glove, and other similar weapons can attack multiple enemies at a time and as such can clear rooms when the guns are used properly. Combine these for sick combos and massive kill counts. Use these in clusters of enemies rather than lone enemies to make optimal use of these weapons.
  • Don't forget about your wrench! If you're out of ammo this can save your life and take the enemies at the same time. Even larger enemies can tremble at a well trained wrench ninja. Learn to use this weapon as it may just save you a life or two.
  • Find the RYNO plans. The RYNO is wonderful and in effect ends the game when you have it. It is great against all enemies and should be upgraded ASAP. It may not work quite as well on bosses but you shouldn't have a problem taking them down anyway.
  • Upgrade your weapons in challenge mode. This will give you access to their full potential and will result in you being unstoppable. Upgrade your stronger weapons first since they will serve you better than weaker weapons being upgraded.
  • The Chimpositron is the greatest weapon ever. Use this as much as you want. With unlimited ammo and the ability to change enemies into dancing monkeys this gun guarantees a good laugh and many many deaths for your enemies. This gun is absolutely amazing, get this as soon as the Raritanium Tournament is available.

i am having problem getting the 2nd bolt in great clock sector 3

the platform seems impossible to jump onto

any tips?

Are you using every jump available? You have to really use your jumps wisely and when getting it as Clank make sure you use all three of your heli-ups while at the peak of your jump.

It's on the path you use to disable the shields containing the prisoners. You have to use springs to go forward, but if you turn around on the first one, there's a hidden platform. The reason I bring this up is that one of the RYNO V holoplans is hidden on the same platform as a Gold Bolt in the game. I don't know for sure if that's the one you need, but it's worth a shot.

yeah...I see why it's a problem to go into more detail about that one now. But I managed to get it after writing my suggestion.

I also managed to get to Wave 18 before dying on the last Raritanium Tournament Challenge -_-' I ran out of freaking ammo. Oh well, I'll try again after I beat the game, so I'll try it on a lower difficulty if I can. Wave 16 is all where it went downhill as I lost 50 health in about 3 seconds.
