Introduction

Racquet Sports (or Racket Sports in some countries) is a Playstation Move game which offers five different sports; Tennis, Badminton, Squash, Beach Tennis and Table Tennis. The road to platinum involves completing a career mode on each of the five sports, a tricky training mode and 2 easily boostable online trophies. Most of the other trophies will come naturally over the course of the careers. Some of the hidden trophies can be difficult to do but these can be more easily mopped up in the exhibition mode. This game does give your upper arm muscle a good workout as you will be playing very similar shots for long periods of time. For this reason the platinum cannot be obtained in just a few sittings. Make sure to take regular breaks! For this reason I cannot recommend this game for a quick rental platinum.

Step One: Completing Each Career Mode

In this step you need to complete the career mode for each of the five sports; Tennis, Badminton, Squash, Beach Tennis and Table Tennis. To do this you must go through each sport one by one. There are three leagues to go through for each sport; Amateur, Professional and Masters. You will get a trophy for winning each one. Make sure that in the Masters Leagues for each sport you accept the invitation to enter the Private Cup and then win it. This is required to unlock the gold trophy for each sport. It is not necessary to enter the private leagues for the Amateur or Professional leagues. For details, tricks and tips on how to win each sport event please refer to the trophy guide.

Step Two: Training Mode

This step is to unlock one of the more challenging trophies on the game: “Winning Streak”. This is for obtaining a record of 10 straight shots for each sport in the training mode. Please refer to the trophy guide for specific information and help for this trophy.

Step Three: Mopping up the remaining offline trophies

Use this step to gather the remaining offline trophies. This shouldn’t take too long as you should have unlocked the majority of these during the career mode. The hardest to obtain are the hidden trophies which involve things such as hitting the net in tennis, or winning a point in table tennis by allowing the ball to bounce on the table twice. See the trophy guide for information regarding these trophies.

Step Four: Online

There are just two online trophies. They require you to win an online game when your opponent scores zero points, and for you to win 25 games. The online is very quiet and when you do find an opponent it is often very laggy. To avoid this I recommend finding a boosting partner from your region to boost with using the boosting thread found here.

Career Trophies

Tips for each sport are given in the sport’s “hope” trophy post. E.g. the tennis tips and tricks are in the “Tennis Hope” guide.

Win the Amateur league in Tennis with any character

Start a new career mode from the main menu. Select Career and then Tennis. Now you just need to win the Amateur league. To do this win every game you play. When you get invited to a Private Cup you can decline as this is only needed in the Masters league. This is one of the harder sports on the game so please read on for tips and tricks for how to win more easily. After winning the Amateur league you will automatically enter the Professional league. If you fail to win the league you restart the Amateur league from scratch.

*Tennis Tips and Tricks*

If you feel you are about to lose e.g. when the opponent is on match point, press :start: and select quit to main menu. It warns you that you will lose your progress in the event but that isn’t true! From here just select Tennis from the career menu again and you will be able to start the match from the beginning.

To win tennis games you need to have advanced controls turned on. These can be turned on or off every time you start the game when the game asks you if you want to turn them on or not.

The basic tactic here is to make your opponent run around a lot. The first shot you should attempt is a top spin to one of the back corners. This is done by holding down :trigger: and whilst hitting the ball sweeping the wand upwards. In the early tournaments this shot alone will win you a lot of points. If the opponent can return it, the best return shot is a drop shot into the near opposite corner. This can be done either with or without holding :trigger:. For added backspin sweep the controller down as you hit the ball. Obviously you will not always be able to make these shots but these are the shots you want to make given the chance. Make sure you time the risky shots (holding :trigger:) well, and above all else keep the rally going. Even at the later stages of tennis very few shots from the opponent will be able to beat you!

Win the Professional league in Tennis with any character

After winning the Amateur league in your career you will be entered into the Professional league. As with the Amateur league win every game and don’t accept the invite to the Private Cup. After winning the Professional league you will automatically be entered into the Masters league. If you fail to win the league you restart the Professional league from scratch.

After winning the Professional league you will be entered into the Masters league. As with the other two leagues win every game to eventually win the League. After winning the first tournament you will be invited to enter the Private Cup. Make sure you accept the invite and win both the Private Cups during the league. If you fail to win the league you restart the Masters league from scratch.

Win the Amateur league in Badminton with any character

Start a new career mode from the main menu. Select Career and then Badminton. Now you just need to win the Amateur league. To do this win every game you play. When you get invited to a Private Cup you can decline as this is only needed in the Masters league. This is one of the easier sports on the game, but if you are against winning cheaply and easily do not read the tips and tricks below. After winning the Amateur league you will automatically enter the Professional league. If you fail to win you restart the Amateur league from scratch.

*Badminton Tips and Tricks*

If you feel you are about to lose e.g. when the opponent is on match point, press :start: and select quit to main menu. It warns you that you will lose your progress in the event but that isn’t true! From here just select Badminton from the career menu again and you will be able to start the match from the beginning.

To win badminton games you need to have advanced controls turned on. These can be turned on or off every time you start the game when the game asks you if you want to turn them on or not.

Badminton is made very easy by a method discovered by myself. I play a lot of badminton in real life and tactics in real life transfer to this game. You always serve first and so make the serve as light as possible. This forces your opponent to hit the shuttle high in the air (The opponent never plays another drop shot back at you). It is then very simple for you to hold down :trigger: and sweep the wand controller down to do a smash. It is only on the Masters league that this method begins to get a bit tougher but is still very easy. In the Masters league the opponent will sometimes hit the shuttle straight back at you. This happens if you don’t make the serve quite light enough. In the event of this hit the shuttle to the back of the court as hard as you can. Your opponent will then have to hit high to return. As before you then use the smash. Key to winning in the later tournaments is to keep your serve for as long as possible. If you lose the serve use a combination of the tactics above to win it back. Try to avoid hitting it right into the centre of the opponent’s side of the court so they have an opportunity to smash as they are near impossible to return.

Win the Amateur league in Squash with any character

Start a new career mode from the main menu. Select Career and then Squash. Now you just need to win the Amateur league. To do this win every game you play. When you get invited to a Private Cup you can decline as this is only needed in the Masters league. This is one of the harder sports in the game so please read on for tips and tricks for how to win more easily. After winning the Amateur league you will automatically enter the Professional league. If you fail to win you restart the Amateur league from scratch.

*Squash Tips and Tricks*

If you feel you are about to lose e.g. when the opponent is on match point, press :start: and select quit to main menu. It warns you that you will lose your progress in the event but that isn’t true! From here just select Squash from the career menu again and you will be able to start the match from the beginning.

Squash can be very difficult and frustrating, and the following tactics are a bit hit and miss, so be prepared to quit out and restart the games a fair bit once you progress further into the leagues. To win squash games you need to have advanced controls turned on. These can be turned on or off every time you start the game when the game asks you if you want to turn them on are not.

The only tactic I have found is to make the first shot you play a top spin drop shot. This can be done from anywhere on the court providing the ball bounces fairly high up. To play this shot hold down :trigger: and slowly sweep down with the wand controller. This shot will eventually win you the point. The only time not to play this shot is when the opponent is in the front half of the court. In this case hit the ball as hard as you can to the back of the court then start playing the top spin drop shot again. Eventually the ball will drop dead enough so that your opponent can’t hit it back. Above all else keeping the rally going is essential in squash, so time all your risky shots (holding :trigger:) well.

Another tactic that I have been made aware of is to constantly hit the ball with next to no power without the risky button down. This eventually will wrong foot the opponent. After trying this method I have had mixed results so only use this as another option if you are having no luck with the tactics above.

Start a new career mode from the main menu. Select Career and then Beach Tennis. Now you just need to win the Amateur league. To do this win every game you play. When you get invited to a Private Cup you can decline as this is only needed in the Masters league. This is one of the easier sports on the game using tactics describe in this guide so read on below. After winning the Amateur league you will automatically enter the Professional league. If you fail to win you restart the Amateur league from scratch.

*Beach Tennis Tips and Tricks*

If you feel you are about to lose e.g. when the opponent is on match point, press :start: and select quit to main menu. It warns you that you will lose your progress in the event but that isn’t true! From here just select Beach Tennis from the career menu again and you will be able to start the match from the beginning.

To win Beach Tennis games you need to have advanced controls turned on. These can be turned on or off every time you start the game when the game asks you if you want to turn them on or not.

Beach tennis is a simple sport and requires just a few simple tactics to win the majority of the points. In many ways it is quite similar to badminton as the ball used is very light. Start off by making a light serve just over the net. The opponent will then often be forced to play a defensive shot that goes high into your side of the court, setting you up nicely for a smash. Hold down :trigger: and sweep the wand controller down. This method alone will win many points in the early stages of the career. As you advance further your opponent may not set it up for you in this way. In these cases when you receive the return shot hit it as hard as possible to send the ball to the far end of the court. Your opponent will then have to play a high shot back, again setting you up for the smash.

You shouldn’t have too many problems in the Masters league, a combination of these tactics will be nearly always successful, if they don’t work on the first attempt in the rally rinse and repeat until they do!

Win the Amateur league in Table Tennis with any character

Start a new career mode from the main menu. Select Career and then Table Tennis. Now you just need to win the Amateur league. To do this win every game you play. When you get invited to a Private Cup you can decline as this is only needed in the Masters league. This is one of the harder sports on the game please read the tips and tricks below. After winning the Amateur league you will automatically enter the Professional league. If you fail to win you restart the Amateur league from scratch.

*Table Tennis Tips and Tricks*

If you feel you are about to lose e.g. when the opponent is on match point, press :start: and select quit to main menu. It warns you that you will lose your progress in the event but that isn’t true! From here just select squash from the career menu again and you will be able to start the match from the beginning.

Table Tennis is fast and furious, half the problem is keeping up with the pace of the game for long periods of time. To win Table Tennis games it is advisable to have advanced controls turned on. These can be turned on or off every time you start the game when the game asks you if you want to turn them on are not.

As you improve you will realise that there are few tactics you can play apart from continuously hitting it back at your opponent with very hard shots, eventually setting yourself up for a smash. It is personal preference whether to use the risky shot or not by holding :trigger:. I did not on my first career playthrough but on a second playthrough I found it easier by using the risky shot. However, be warned as it is very easy to mistime the risky shot as the pace of this game is a lot faster than most of the other sports. If the opponent ever hits a fairly high shot back at you then you can go for the smash shot by quickly sweeping the wand controller down. These opportunities become increasingly rare as you progress through the leagues though. Just keep up the rallies and eventually you will reach a breakthrough. Endurance and concentration are key to success with the table tennis career. Avoid setting up the opponent for the smash by keeping the ball low, and you will eventually win the point, as very few shots from the opponent will be able to beat you.

Training Mode

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/656/30.jpgWinning Streakhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

In training mode, achieve a longest series record of at least 10 in every sport

This is one of the hardest trophies on the game. You need to hit the ball/shuttle into the target zone ten times in a row for each sport. To succeed you will need to have your Playstation Eye set up as best as possible. Make sure you are standing straight in the middle of its view, and that it is on wide angle view (slider twisted onto blue). Precision and a lot of patience are going to be needed for each sport. If you are playing in a very bright room and are struggling to register some shots, try to reduce the light levels so that the Playstation Eye can more easily track the glowing ball at the end of your wand. The tips below apply for all sports and individual tips for specific sports are given further down.

Forehand shots

To send shots to the right hand side of the court from your view you need to make sure that your wand does not cross your body at all. Keep it to right of you and at your side at all times whilst playing these shots.*

To send shots to the left of the court form your view you need to make sure that your wand sweeps across your body.

Backhand shots

To send shots to the right hand side of the court from your view you need to make sure that your wand sweeps across your body.

To send shots to the left of the court from your view you need to make sure that your wand does not cross your body at all. Keep it to right of you and at your side at all times whilst playing these shots.*

*To make sure the Eye registers these shots, sweep the controller upwards to play them

Shot power is also important here. To send the ball to the front half of the court, sweep the controller slowly when playing the shot. To send the ball to the back of the court sweep the wand controller quickly. A combination of correct placement and power will be needed for a lot of the shots.

Tips for Tennis

This is probably the hardest sport to complete this challenge for. Nearly every shot will need to have a specific placement and power. Occasionally you will need to play a shot into the centre of the opposition’s court. To play this shot sweep the controller forwards and in line with the centre of your body. This is where it’s vital to be in perfect placement in front of your Playstation Eye.

Tips for Squash

Hitting shots to the back of the court can be difficult. To play this shot sweep the controller forwards and in line with the centre of your body. This is where it’s vital to be in perfect placement in front of your Playstation Eye. This shot avoids hitting any walls and so is more likely to hit the back wall. For the very light drop shots hardly any movement is needed in the wand controller but make sure you do make some contact!

Tips for Beach Tennis

I found this fairly difficult to judge where the zone was due to the camera angle. Sometimes hitting just over the net falls short of some of the near zones. Practise getting the shot power just right so that if the zone at the front of the court is slightly smaller and more towards the middle of the court you still land it in the zone.

In Tennis, perform 3 successful Risky Shots in a row

A fairly easy silver trophy, just hit three risky shots in a row during a game of tennis. To be able to play a risky shot you need to have advanced controls turned on. These can be turned on or off every time you start the game when the game asks you if you want to turn them on are not. To play a risky shot hold down :trigger: whilst making the shot. Be sure to time it well otherwise the shot will be miss hit. This trophy can be unlocked in any game mode, but a good opponent is needed to return your first two risky shots.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/656/26.jpgIcing on the cake!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

In any sport, win a match with a successful Risky Shot

For this, when a match reaches a match point in your favour, finish off your opponent with a risky shot by holding :trigger: as you take the shot. To be able to play a risky shot you need to have advanced controls turned on. These can be turned on or off every time you start the game when the game asks you if you want to turn them on are not. This can be done with any sport in any game mode. It will be easier to unlock against easier opposition as they are less likely to return your risky shot. If the attempt at finishing the game fails because your opponent returns it you can always try again with your second shot!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/656/27.jpgHuman 1 - Machine 0http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

In any sport, win a match against the computer with the computer scoring zero points

This can be achieved in any game mode apart from the online, with any length of game. To do this you need to win a game against the CPU without dropping any points. The easiest way is to set up a match against the CPU in badminton in exhibition mode. Set the game to the first to 7 points and one round only. Use the easy method to win points in badminton described in “Badminton Hope” to win all the points in the game. The trophy will unlock right after you win providing the opponent has scored zero points.

Secret Trophies

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/656/31.jpgSatellite launched!http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

In Badminton, send the shuttle really high in the sky

This trophy is made a lot easier by having the advanced controls switched on. These can be turned on or off every time you start the game when the game asks you if you want to turn them on are not. This trophy can be achieved in any game mode, and if you don’t unlock it naturally during the course of the career it is best to do it in an exhibition match against an easy opponent. Here the basic idea is to miss hit a risky shot by using poor timing. The shot that seems to work the best for this trophy is a basic upwards sweep. So hold down :trigger: and sweep upwards with the controller, but make sure to time it badly, either hit the shuttle too early or too late. This method doesn’t always work but it seems to be the best method to get this trophy. Expect to have to try this many times.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/656/32.jpgPinball freakhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

In Squash, perform a spectacular drop shot

I found this trophy much easier to unlock on the training mode when you have to hit drop shots into the zone nearest the wall. The first drop shot I did into one of the zones just under the wall unlocked this trophy. To do perform a drop shot simply swing the wand controller lightly to make contact with the ball.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/656/33.jpgDouble bouncehttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

In Table Tennis, score a point with the ball bouncing twice on the opponent's table

This is one of the more difficult trophies on the game. Make sure you are playing easy opposition either in the early stages of your career or through exhibition. Hit a long hard shot and hope that they return it, if they are still far behind the court, now is your chance to gently swing the wand controller into the ball. Hopefully this will be light enough so that your opponent cannot get back to the table in time. This will take many attempts, as the opponents even on easy difficulty will nearly always make it back to the table in time.

If you are still having problems paulcoe has some tips that helped him out with the trophy:

I don't think double bounce can be achieved online with a boosting partner. I tried several times - we managed to make the ball bounce twice but the trophy never popped. I tried for a long time to get the smash followed by a soft shot to work and got nowhere close. In the end double bounce came down to a mistimed shot the spiraled over the net.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/656/34.jpgTill your arms drophttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

In Beach Tennis, play a rally lasting at least 20 shots

This trophy isn’t too difficult, just play your opponent on easy difficulty in exhibition or early on in your career. Simply gently return every shot they send back at you, and they shouldn’t be able to play back a shot that beats you.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/656/35.jpgNet fishing?http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

In Tennis, put the ball into the net

This trophy can be difficult. It is unlikely that you will unlock it in your career as it is more easily done by miss hitting a risky shot. To play a risky shot you need to have advanced controls turned on. These can be turned on or off every time you start the game when the game asks you if you want to turn them on are not. There are few tactics to get this trophy and my only advice is to keep miss hitting risky drop shots (hold :trigger: to play a risky shot) and eventually the ball will fly into the net. Distance to the net isn’t a factor as this trophy has happened to me twice, once from the front of the court and once from the back.

Here is another method for this trophy, courtesy of ArchAzrael if the above doesn't work for you

I know this is an old game, but in case someone still struggling with the Net Fishing trophy.

I found an easier way to do it.

just like Ed-_- said, it's easier to do it in Exhibition Easy.

the AI tends to return the ball near the net, all you've got to do is approach the ball using Move button and hit the ball with Risky Shot BEFORE it bounces.

I've done this 3 times and it seems to work, no 100% guarantee, but still seems easier than before where I only waiting for the ball to come and hit it before it bounce.

Win 25 online ranked matches

For this trophy you need to win 25 official online matches. This can be against any player. If you are playing legitimately, the hints and tips for each sport described in the “Hope” trophy descriptions should help you beat a large majority of players. For ease this is more easily boosted, as at the end of each game you have the option to rematch. This makes the games run more quickly. To find a boosting partner post in the boosting thread here.

*Glitched* This trophy isn't unlocking for some users who are doing this without boosting, i.e. people who are winning a few games at a time. Boosting this in one session with one other player seems to be the best way to avoid this glitch

To do this legitimately you are best off playing tennis as you will only need to win points 8 times. However, due to a very laggy connection you are probably better off boosting this. Please use the boosting thread found here.

Just about to add them in ;)

Edit:

Arggh! the links are sending the character limit over :(

Any advice?

I deleted my post so you should have more room for your guide.

Edit: Try and add the online trophy descriptions to your platinum post then you should have more room.

Hello,

i wonder if u can help me. i just cant get the "playing with the big boys" trophy, but i surely have won over 25 online ranked matches ! it's the only one that im missing, no problem with the others.

thanks

Are you sure you are playing "official" matches as they are called in game? I have not known this trophy glitch for anyone, so either that or you haven't quite won enough games yet

congrats on your first guide, youve done a very good job, will be using it when i get round to doing this game

Thanks ;)

there are only official or friendly matches, and i played official, no mistake about that.

as for the number of matches, i have enough score only in tennis to unlock this trophy (im in the tennis leaderboard with 1308 points, #17) !!!

Wow, that is strange. Did your opponents quit on you? This may not count as a win. How many games do you think you have won in total?

yep! sometimes they quit (wich by the way is quite annoying, especially if youre winning, but thats another story), but i dont get the points, and im not counting it as a win. in all 5 sports i must've won nearly 40 matches. but as i told, the tennis points tells it all cause its impossible to get that much without 25 wins! no reported cases of something like that happen (in other games i mean) ?

This really is a last resort, but if you have all the other trophies you could delete the game save and game data and then try winning another 25 games. Also perhaps the 25 wins have to be done in one session? Me and someone on this site got it after doing 5 wins each for a while. That would suck a lot though. Has anyone else had problems with the 25 wins trophy? Has anyone got this over multiple sessions?

YESSSS ! got it right now, winning 25 in one session. the sport doesn't matter, but it seems its got to be in one session, wich doesnt make much sense :-s

thanks again ;-)

No worries, if someone else could confirm this then I will add it to the guide. Seems a bit odd to me that they have to all be in one session

so is it 20-30 hours because you need to take breaks or does it accualy take that long? I'm about the import the US version, but if it's that long of a game I'm not sure if I wanna stack it...

I'd say you could possibly do it in under 20 without breaks and with a bit of skill. If you have already played the EU version then you should know how to win at most the sports anyway, which will make it quicker.

The 30 hours presumes you have not really played anything like this before, and you struggle a lot on the harder sports and the training trophy. I think it will take the average player around 25 hours, but spread out over time
