Arvaves
http://i.imgur.com/p320y.png Banner by Ub4of Guide and road map written by Arvaves Editing and layout by Kolm Road Map Overview: Estimated Trophy Difficulty: Trophy Difficulty Rating - Personal Rating: 8/10 (6 with guide for bonus play) Approximate Time To 100%: 10-30hrs highly dependant on skills/using a guide for bonus play Trophy Breakdown: 1(G) 2(S) 4(B) 6http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_secret.png Offline: 1(G) 2(S) 3(B) 6http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_secret.png Online: 1(B) Minimum Playthroughs needed: No playthroughs Missable Trophies: No Glitched Trophies: No Difficulty affects Trophies: No, every tournament has its own dufficulty but you can't change it. Step 1 - The tutorials Complete all the tutorials. This will give you the Amateur trophy and will explain to you all the rules of chess. This can be useful for starters but also for casual chess players like me, because not every casual chess player knows the ’en passant’ rule for example. So just do the tutorials, it’s easy and it won’t take more than 10 minutes. Finishing this step earns you: Amateur Step 2 - An exhibition game Play an exhibition match against the computer. Make sure that you win the game, because then you’ll get the trophies Check and Checkmate. Also keep in mind at the end of the game when you’re winning, you should start moving your pawn to the eight rank. Replacing your pawn for another piece will also give you Promotion. Finishing this step earns you: Check Checkmate Promotion Step 3 - Bonus play I suggest you start with bonus play now, but steps 3 and 4 can be switched if you like. You have to solve all 100 situations. The goal is always the same: you must put your opponent into checkmate in 1 move, 2 moves, 3 moves, 4 moves or 5 moves. Once you’ve solved them all the trophy should pop. When you play bonus play you'll also earn some random trophies like Double Check and Epaulette Mate. Check the trophy guide for more information. Finishing this step earns you: Problem wizard Double Check Epaulette Mate Step 4 - Offline tournaments You have to complete the three offline tournaments to receive this trophy. The first one is easy, but the other two might be a bit challenging. Just try not to do a stupid move and take your time to think, there are no time limits. You'll also get Piece Collector when you play a couple of matches. When you've won the third tournament, Tournament King will pop. Finishing this step earns you: Piece Collector Tournament King Step 5 - Play a game via ‘Play by mail’ Play a game against somebody who is a part of your friend list and win. As a reward you’ll get the only online trophy in this game. If you have nobody in your friendlist with the game you can search for a partner at the Boosting thread. After you win the match, Pure Correspondence will pop. Finishing this step earns you: Pure Correspondence Step 6 - Remaining trophies If you followed the guide then you should have earned every trophy except O-O-O, En Passant and Grandmaster. O-O-O and En Passant must both be earned in an exhibition game otherwise the trophy won’t pop. For more info check the trophy guide. Finishing this step earns you: En Passant O-O-O Step 7 - Play, play and play For Grandmaster, you’ll have to play a lot. The only thing you can do is play as many games as you can. You must reach an ELO of 2500 points or the Grandmaster Pure Chess rating to obtain Grandmaster. For more information you can check the trophy guide. Finishing this step earns you: Grandmaster Trophy Guide http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1505/A01.jpgCheckhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png Put an opponent in check in an exhibition game. See Checkmate. http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1505/EBE.jpgCheckmatehttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png Win an exhibition game against the computer. When you are at the menu, go to the top left and start an exhibition game. You simply have to win 1 game against the computer. I advise you to do this after you’ve done the tutorials. Just make sure that you will win the game. When it's just a matter of time before you'll win, start moving with a pawn to the eight rank, that’s the last line on the board. Doing this will also give you the Promotion trophy. Note: You’ll also receive Check when you put your opponents king in check for the first time. http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1505/20B.jpgAmateurhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png Complete all the tutorials. I highly recommend you to do the tutorials before you start with anything else. This will be very easy if you know a bit of chess, but some rules can be new for you so to be sure that everything is clear you should do the tutorials. With that out of the way you can start playing the game modes in any order you like. http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1505/E67.jpgPure Correspondencehttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png Win a game of Play By Mail. Another easy trophy. Just invite somebody from your friendlist for a game and win it. If you have no friends playing Pure chess, you can search for a boosting partner at the Boosting thread. You can put each other into checkmate in a minute so this will be a very easy trophy to get. If you really want to get this out of your way, you can just challenge your second account. Then let your first account win and after you log in you'll get the trophy. Thanks to Roughdawg4 for this information! Arvaves
http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1505/CF3.jpgTournament Kinghttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png Complete Tournament mode on all three difficulties. For this trophy you have to win the three offline tournaments in this game. Every tournament stands for a difficulty. You have to win 4 times in a row to win a tournament. Tips for the first tournament: At this difficulty I advise you to make sure you get your opponents queen as soon as posible, this will make things a lot easier and because of the low difficulty you can easily get the queen by only sacrificing one piece, a horse by example. The computer will almost automatically take anything that it can get with its queen, without thinking about losing the piece. I also advice you to play with your queen and lead your attack with it. This will make the 4 games easier and they will be done quicker. Just pay attention that you don’t lose your queen. I can’t give any further tips because this isn’t hard and shouldn’t give you any trouble. For the harder tournaments (the second and the third) there are no real tips. Everybody has his own style of playing. The only thing you can do is being careful that you don’t give pieces away. Take your time, there are no time limits. Keep trying and after a while you’ll get better and better. http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1505/FC1.jpgProblem Wizardhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png Solve 100 mate problems. This is one of the harder trophies in this game if you try it without using the video guide. There are 100 situations divided in 5 categories: mate in 1, mate in 2, mate in 3, mate in 4 and mate in 5. Every category has 20 situations. They are fun to play, but they get harder and harder. If you can't work one out or when you just want to earn the trophy without thinking too much you can use the video guides. Every video shows 20 from the 100 challenges. Note: When you finish the first 20, you’ll automatically get Epaulette Mate and Double Check. There are two different ratings in the game. You're winning ELO points for playing in Play By Mail. Starting value is 1200. You will gain points for winning and lose points when losing games. You can earn the trophy by achieving an ELO of 2500. I advise you to get this trophy by getting a Grandmaster Pure Chess rating. Unless you play A LOT with some of your friends. That will take a lot of time and even if you want to boost this you'll waste more energy by getting an ELO of 2500 than achieving the GPC-rating. That's because there is a little trick to get a lot of points quickly for the Grandmaster Pure chess rating. Pure Chess rating is connected with all Exhibition matches. Starting value is 100. The idea is the same. Winning is gaining. After a while you'll notice that it's impossible to predict how many points you'll get against a certain player. By example; playing 2 times in a row against the same opponent will give you two times different points. The maximum you can get is 26 points in one game. That's when you defeat a 1000 PCR when you're at level 1 (100-199 PCR points), but it could be that you'll only gain 23 points for example. Like I said earlier, there is no mathematical way to know how much you'll receive. When you play against an opponent with the same PCR and you win, you'll just get 2-10 points. For the GPC-rating you must get 1000 points so this could take a lot of time. But there is a little trick to earn a lot of points in a short period: Step One: Play PCR 1000 (you could use Der Bringer). Play until Mate in 1 Step Two: save the game, then finish the match. Step Three: Load saved game and keep pressing then finish the game. Step Four: Rinse and repeat. Thanks to geroldhulahoop for this trick! Also a lot of thanks to rospondek for the help with this trophy! Edited April 30, 2012 by lukey52 Editorial Sweep
Arvaves
Secret Trophies http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1505/70C.jpgDouble Checkhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png Deliver a check by two pieces at the same time. This trophy is not hard and will come naturally when you finish the first category in bonus games. You must put your opponent’s king in check with two different pieces at the same time, that’s all you have to do for this simple trophy. In the 20 first challenges (mate in 1), you can get this trophy twice so if you follow the Roadmap you'll receive this trophy without a problem. http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1505/50C.jpgPromotionhttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png Advance a pawn to the eighth rank in an offline game. See Checkmate. http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1505/EE6.jpgO-O-Ohttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png Perform a castling move on the queenside during any full game. When you played the tutorial you’ll know how to do this. Just start an exhibition game, move a pawn so you can put away your queen, move another pawn so you can move your bishop. Now move your horse and there should be three empty places between your rook and your king. Now select your king and move him 2 places to the left. Note: The trophy will only pop in an exhibition match, not in a tournament game. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Iw4ZlrbzPw]Trophy guide O-O-O (Pure chess) - YouTube[/ame] http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1505/4DC.jpgEn Passanthttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png Perform an En Passant during any full game. In the tutorials it explained how to get this. Just move with a pawn at your opponent and stop when there are 2 empty places between your pawn and your opponent’s pawn line up. Now you must wait until a pawn moves two places ahead so you can make the ‘en passant’ move. Note: The trophy will only pop in an exhibition match, not in a tournament game. This trophy will come automatically after you play a couple games, the only thing you have to do is capture 100 pieces. This shouldn’t take more than 5-6 normal games to unlock. http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1505/A9B.jpgEpaulette Matehttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png Deliver checkmate where the king is blocked on both sides by his own rooks. This trophy is a lot easier then it seems, the only thing you have to do is finish challenge 9, mate in 1. It is a very easy challenge and I got the trophy in this way without even trying. You can try to get this trophy in a normal game but that's very difficult. Save yourself a lot of time and just finish the challenge. rospondek
Tournament King, Problem Wizard and of course Grandmaster WILL BE HARD! Tournaments are really tough beginning from the second one. I messed up last game of the second tournament. You will play against CPU at 700PCR. He's serious! Third tournament will be a b***ch! Problem wizard... It is the future you see. Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future. As Master Yoda said once. From Mate in 3 moves You WILL SWEAT! Number of possibilities will increase incrementally. And there is also 4 and 5 moves... Grandmaster will be loooooong. 900pts to win, and max I think you can have is 26 per match. Won't be so bad if the opponent you have to play to win this wasn't Grand Master 1000PCR You can always win over 110 games with Monkey A little table with points per win/loose depending on the PCR level. Will be filled in time. http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/4638/chartew.jpg Numbers in '()' are PROBABLY for consecutive wins against the same PCR level opponent. Anyway read this like that. When You're on PCR 100 and play against CPU PCR 400 you will gain 17pts when winning or loose 2pts when losing the match. I think that with leveling up, points are decreased because after leveling up to PCR 200 I got 17pts for win with CPU PCR 500 which was the same as for winning with CPU PCR 400 but when I was on PCR 100. Hope that's clear, yet it has to be confirmed. If anybody has such a results just give them like that: Your CPR vs CPU PCR - result = pts. example 100 vs 400 - win = +17 Edited April 14, 2012 by rospondek
geroldhulahoop
If it helps you, I've have a list of moves for Mates in 4 and Mates in 5 for Problem Wizard. Kolm
Layout: Check! Never knew that copying stuff from word to the normal editor (not the BB-code editor) generated so many BB-code tags that are not needed and actually make your life miserable if you use the normal editor and want to change stuff to default... I think the BB-code now is only half of what it was before And even copying from notepad adds enters... Arvaves, I want edit rights on your posts xD

I have almost finished the lists for Mate in 1,2, and 3. Will check they work tomorrow, on my other ps3 account. That would be great! I did mate in 3 myself yesterday, so I am going to make the vid today. If you could send the mate in 4 and 5 to me then the guide will be finished! (except some further info about (G)Grandmaster) @kolm; Thank you so much once again Writing the guide was no problem for me, posting it was already a bit harder and the result had a terrible lay-out! rospondek
Does anybody have idea what's up with point system in this game? I'm trying to make this points chart but after few PM's with Arvaves we can't see the logic in it.
lni
For the trophy "tournament king", use the software "der bringer", with it, very easy to beat the last level. You can use it to accelerate the grandmaster trophy too. Salut ! Edited April 15, 2012 by lni
Vintsukka
A small suggestion, maybe you could just write down the moves needed for the puzzles. That would be easier to follow than the videos. And like the previous poster said, Der Bringer is a great and easy to use program if anyone needs help with the tournaments or grinding for the gold. You can download it here: Free Chess Software - Program And thanks for the guide, it contains pretty much everything you could hope for and it's very well written. Thank you, it's my first guide and I know that my english isn't so good but I did my best! I hope it helped xD If you want I'll post the steps for each video in their description on youtube But that could take a while because I already put a lot of time in the guide and now that the weekend is over I don't have much time left ... Roughdawg4
You don't need another person to do the online trophy, you can challenge a subaccount and logout back and forth for the win. Since you can win in 2 moves, you only have to log in and out about 3-4 times. I am playing this game legit because I absolutely love chess and I will give it an 8 or a 9 because the last tournament is absolutely brutal and checkmate in 4-5 moves isn't much easier too. Its ton of fun though. If you use the guide and a chess program, it turns this game into a 1 or 2. Edited April 15, 2012 by Roughdawg4

geroldhulahoop
I played a match against PCR 1000, played till I was Mate in 1, then I saved the game and finished the match, then loaded the saved game, then I kept pressing cross till the last move, finished the match again. I just did this over and over. I'm now on 826. Done: It take a while, because I was getting 3-4 points against PCR 1000, when I was on 980. This is how I did it: Step One: Play PCR 1000 (using Der Bringer). Play until Mate in 1 Step Two: save the game, then finish the match. Step Three: Load saved game and keep pressing then finish the game. Step Four: Rinse and repeat. For step three and four I used a turbo controller. I hope this helps!
