This actually happened to me when the PSN network went down. I cancelled my

credit cards and found out that it was some advertiser that spammed my

emails from China. Here's some advice about passwords:

- Adding numbers helps, don't use single digits if you can, the more the better

- Capitalizing is something that most people don't take into account. It's a

tiny boost when trying to up the security.

- Don't use formulaic or gimmick passwords. No qwerty or starwars (one handed)

- Make up a word or use a word that isn't common.

- If you must keep a back up, make sure it is within your reach and is not

accessible online. Write it down and keep it in a safe place.

Lastly, make sure you don't keep all your eggs in the same basket. Don't use

the same password for everything. Emails, game accounts, ids, etc.

I'm sorry this happened to you. And don't cry- it's going to be okay. You may

still have time (if not done already) to get this worked out. Hope this helps.

Your situation is very stange, though I think the truth might've gotten lost in translation.

This wasn't some kind of random hacker. (who always have something better to do than to hack a individual account anyway) It sounds more like a person you know who either guessed your details, had your details or used your date of birth/e-mail to change shit around. Obviously, as the person put your e-mail back to the way it was. A random hacker wouldn't do this as he or she wouldn't give a shit about your discomfort.

Why you ask others if you should take action is puzzling at best. In the time you write a topic about this, you should be taking action at all times. Change your e-mail, don't use your actual birthday and make a numerical password.

Pretty much agree with everything except the birthday part. Sony uses your birthday as one piece of verification should you phone them for support of your account. Besides, you cannot change your birthday on your own after setting up your PSN ID.

Always use your actual birthday, and setup a strong password.

I've always used a fake birthday and they always accepted it upon giving it. :/ I never had to send in a copy of personal ID or something.
