Introduction:

First off you should be wary of the glitched Crow's Nest trophy (see trophy guide on how to avoid getting the glitch). You only need one playthrough; the trader campaign that is your quickest way to platinum. After you've finished the trader campaign, keep your save because you will need to do some grinding for various combat related trophies. There are no missable trophies; all can gotten early on or with most late in the game. Just be patient and enjoy the game. You will need to spend 50 hours playing anyway for the Sea Dog trophy. Remember to keep multiple savefiles in case you screw anything up. The most difficult trophies by far are the ..Veni, ..Vidi and ..Vici! trophies. See trophy guide on how best to tackle taking over towns. There are no difficulty settings so don't worry about that.

Note: All 3 DLCs are completely optional and not needed for the Platinum, but having them will speed up your progress towards it. Once you finish the last mission in the Trader Campaign, it will have given you a nice savefile launchpad to start working on the more complicated and time consuming trophies. Do not overwrite that savefile; more on that in the Trophy Guide.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Trader Campaign

Here, you want to go with the Trader Campaign as it’s the easiest one to build a good economy in, and by far the fastest and easiest way to platinum. There are some trophies that are much easier to get by playing the Trader Campaign e.g. Wedding Bells which you can get once you finish the last mission.

You start out with one ship and 30,000 gold, so start by buying commodities low in one city and selling high in another. Once you you have roughly about 100,000 gold, buy your first ship and send it on a trade route. This will unlock the Got ye New Ship trophy. In the beginning, you want to have 10-15 cities connected in the trade route; just don’t go from the Northern most point to the Southern most point and try to keep the trade route in one area of the map. Early on in the game, you don’t need to have many, if any, sailors on your ships, but later on in the game, once the pirates start showing up, you will need at least 2 fully armed convoys.

You can refer to this MAP for locations of commodities.

Step 2: Profit

A Little further into the game, you should begin to focus on buying more ships for trade routes. It doesn’t hurt to have like 3-5 ships in a trading convoy, but no more, because it will start costing more in maintenance and salaries, than what you can earn on the trade route. Start by having two in each convoy; it’s much more profitable in the beginning. It’s not advisable to have more than about 10 profitable trade routes with an average of 5 ships in each trade convoy when you progress in the game.

Whenever you get the chance to buy a different type ship, do it to work on getting the Collector’s Instinct trophy, where you need one of each ship type in your convoys at the same time.

Another great way to earn easy money is to complete tasks given by Administrators, Governors and Viceroys. Simply click on the mansion if a head is hovering over the building; that means there is an available mission. Also focus on getting the missions done in the Campaign, because once you finish the Trader Campaign, it will give you a nice save file from which to work on more complicated and time consuming trophies.

When you start advancing in rank, begin building businesses in foreign towns by buying a building license from the town Administrator. Also start working on the Veni, …, … Vidi, … and … Vici! trophies, where you need 5, 15 and 30 towns respectively under your rule, as these are the most time consuming trophies in the game. You can do this by peaceful means or in a war.

We advise trying to take over at least 5 towns peacefully; it will take more time, but it will be worth it because they will be better defended the more you build in the town. Once the town reaches Fort Level 7/10, the other nations can’t take that town from you. This requires about 50-60 businesses, and about 7-8,000 in population.

Look up the respective trophies to get more information on how to take over towns. If you take over towns by martial means, you can’t build up the town defenses no matter how much you build in that town, so you will need the Harbor Master DLC for that purpose.

Step 3: Be a Privateer and a Pirate

In this step, all you should have left are the pirate and combat related trophies. You should focus on discovering pirate nests and hunting pirate fleets first. I advise you start working on this after you finish the Trader Campaign, because you will have more gold and more convoys to attack with. This should be your final step where you also want to work on the time consuming combat related trophies. Do not overwrite your save file you have from finishing the Trader Campaign in case something goes wrong in this process and you can’t recover.

Step 4: Clean up

By this point you will likely only be missing Sea Dog, and … Vici! so now is the time to get them.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/201.jpg Hypocritical (B)

Pray 10 times

Dock at a city, select the church and then pray. The easiest way do this is just to go to 9 more cities and the trophy is yours.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/5E9.jpg As Requested (B)

10 tasks fulfilled

Just do at least 10 tasks from the viceroy requests or town taverns and the trophy is yours.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/B0D.jpg Power Drinker (B)

Visit all 60 taverns

You must dock in each city, and while it is selected hit the :triangle: button and select the tavern icon in that city. Just keep a list of which town taverns you went to, and you'll get this trophy before you know it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/ADF.jpg Treasure Hunter (B)

Find a treasure with the help of a treasure map

At the taverns, sometimes there will be a man who wants to sell you a piece of a treasure map for 100,000 gold or a woman who needs help, which will also give you a piece of the map. Once you have 9 pieces of the map, you will see a buoy on the nautical map for you to go to and retrieve the treasure.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/311.jpg Crow's Nest (B)

Discover 10 pirate nests in a single game

GLITCHED

To discover a pirate nest, you need to first of all find a pirate fleet (the ones with black flags) and then simply follow it all the way until it disappears near land somewhere. Then when it appears again, it will reveal a pirate nest. This trophy is glitched as JAKKRI only got it after he discovered 14 pirate nests. Keep at it and you will unlock this. The glitch seems to occur if you buy information on the location of nests from the taverns, so definitely don’t do that at least until you’ve unlocked the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/27E.jpg Treasure Chest (S)

Save 4 million gold pieces within one game

For this trophy, you need 4 million gold pieces in your account at once in one game. You cannot get (for example) 2 million in one game and the rest in another.

General tips:

You start out with 30,000 gold in the trader campaign. It’s not a lot but if you’re smart about your first steps, you shouldn’t have too many problems reaching 4,000,000 gold eventually. Start with your only ship going to different towns close to Port Royale, and buy commodities low (commodities that have 2 or more green bars), and sell them in towns that have a low amount of that commodity (no green bars only red ones). Keep doing this while also keeping an eye out for easy tasks from administrators to complete. You’ll be surprised how much gold you can make in a fairly short amount of time completing these.

When you have about 100-150,000 gold, invest in a couple of cheap ships and make 2 trading convoys with them. Try to connect 10-15 towns to each trading convoy, with starting point in either Cayman or Port Royale. You should focus on the immediate area, and not straying too far away from there. At the same time, keep completing tasks for administrators with your convoy and building some plantations etc. in Cayman and Port Royale., when you feel you have enough gold for it. Don’t go crazy building too much in the beginning; allow your first buildings to become profitable first. Don’t forget to empty your warehouse/s and sell the commodities for pure profit; just don’t sell anything your businesses need to keep for producing commodities. Keep working on the campaign objectives too, as these will also provide gold as you go along and continue buying new ships to make more trade convoys, but don’t have more than 10-12 trade convoys maximum at one time. It has shown itself not to be profitable to have more.

Keep an eye on your fleets if they continue to make profit. If they don’t, try to switch it up with different towns or switching the objective of that trade convoy. You can focus on other things with your trade fleets, for example, to collect building materials or to collect raw materials for your businesses. You can also focus on one town to become prosperous for a peaceful annexation; you do that by starting the trade route in the town you want to make prosperous, and then just add towns in the general area. These also work for profit.

When you have a considerable amount of businesses in one town, you want to select a convoy to empty that warehouse/s with the ‘sell and supply’ strategy with 2-3 ships, but no more or else it won’t be profitable enough. You can cut out a lot of micro management this way too. When you have completed the trader campaign, you will more than likely have taken a big step towards the 4,000,000 gold pieces already.

If you’re still short on money, continue on after finishing the campaign and start working more on annexing towns peacefully. This a sure way to make good money because you will be able to collect taxes. When I had annexed 10 towns peacefully, I could collect about 1,000,000 gold in tax alone in one go. Then when about a couple of months had passed, I could collect 1,000,000 gold again etc.

So definitely work on annexing towns peacefully as early as possible in the trader campaign. I ended up with about 50,000,000 gold using these strategies, but that was also well after I had finished the trader campaign. Just be patient and don’t spend gold on buying stuff if you don’t need it at that moment. You have to spend at least 50hrs in the Caribbean anyway. Lastly, be sure to keep multiple savefiles to revert to if you mess anything up.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/210.jpg Always Welcome (B)

Attain the highest reputation in one nation

Just keep on attacking pirate ships, putting an end to their hideouts, doing tasks for administrators and your popularity with the different nations will increase each time. Just make sure not to attack any nations at this time or your reputation will go down.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/BD5.jpg True Hero (B)

Attain the highest popularity in a town

The easiest towns to get this with are Port Royale and Cayman. This will come naturally. Just keep building businesses in the towns and selling them essential supplies. Eventually the town will love you and you’ll get 100% popularity.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/87C.jpg Peacemaker (B)

Take over a town by peaceful methods

Story Related, can’t be missed

The Viceroy will set down conditions that must be met before he will grant you the right to run a town, which are:

You must own at least 9 businesses in the town and employ at least 75% of the workforce in the town (you can see how many of the towns businesses are yours by going into the town menu, it will show total businesses and the number of businesses you have at the bottom of the page). For example: If a town has 60 total businesses and you own 30 of them, then you will be employing 50% of the workforce. Also the town needs to be prosperous with a 75% or higher happiness rating. And lastly, you need to have a 90% or higher reputation with the nation of the town you’re trying to take over.

If you get stuck and can’t get your employment levels up, because you’ve run out of room to build on, and have a few million gold pieces to spare, buy out your competitors by clicking on a business you don’t own and then buy it.

Once you have met the requirements, return to the Viceroy’s mansion and choose the takeover option. You will have to pay the Viceroy a fee to run the town; the fee will be 300,000 gold.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/9AE.jpg Conqueror (B)

A town annexation by martial methods

To take a town by force, you need to find a small town with level 3 or below in Fort Defenses and 300 soldiers, without any defending ship convoys. You then want to take your convoy of 6+ warships fully loaded with sailors and equipped with handheld weapons (the ratio of weapons should be 1:4 so for every 4 swords you need 1 gun) and attack the city.

This is not difficult; the hard part is holding on to it after you enter into a war because you can’t build up the town defenses. You need the Harbor Master DLC for that purpose so it might be worth investing in that.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/FFE.jpg Wedding Bells (B)

Marry

The easiest way of getting this is immediately after getting the Peacemaker trophy. Go to the Governor’s Mansion in Port Royale and go to the ‘Marriage’ tab and select the option to propose to the Viceroy’s Daughter. You will now have to gather enough food for a wedding party.

Add all of the required commodities for the party into your warehouse in Port Royale (be careful if you have a trade fleet set to empty that warehouse). Once you have enough food, return to the Church and speak to the priest.

The trophy will pop during the short cutscene showing you getting married.

Win a battle against at least 60 guns with a pinnace

Not as hard as it seems. This is our suggestion. Get a Pinnace ship, and load it up with explosive barrels. You can have up to 20 barrels on a pinnace, so go from city to city to load the ship up! Make a new save file. Now it’s time to pick a fight with a warship convoy containing only 2 enemy warships. (Enemy warships are red and when you go to attack them a menu will pop up with stats) Make sure there are only 2 ships, and that there are more than 60 cannons. Now in the naval battle screen have the ships follow you while you press the :l2: button to release the exploding barrels. If timed correctly you will cause great damage to the enemy ship. 2 or 3 hits and the enemy ship will sink. Rinse and repeat to take out the other ship. Note: This may take 2 to 3 tries so just load up the save a try again till you get the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/F37.jpg Flawless Victory (B)

Win a battle without taking any damage

The easiest way to get this trophy is by having a powerful convoy with 5+ warships fully loaded with sailors. It's best with ships like War Galleons or Liners, then find find a small trading convoy that is more than 40 below your overall convoy strength (see the yellow fist in your convoy menu), automate the battle and after a few seconds they will surrender thus unlocking the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/2A2.jpg Collector's Instinct (S)

Possess all ship types in one game

You will have to buy, board and capture ships for this trophy. You will need all of the following ship types in your convoys at the same time:

Pinnace - You can get this ship early on in the Trader Campaign from the pirate convoy just slightly west of Port au Prince, or you can buy it later on in the Trader Campaign.

Sloop - You need to capture this from a pirate or trade convoy.

Brig - You need to capture this from a pirate or trade convoy.

Barc - The ship you start the Trader Campaign with.

Pirate Barc - This ship can only be obtained by boarding and capturing it while fighting a pirate convoy.

Corvette - This ship can be bought in most shipyards.

Military Corvette - This ship can be bought in shipyards in any town with a Viceroy mansion.

Fluyt - This ship can be bought in most shipyards.

Trade Fluyt - This ship can be bought in shipyards in any town with a Viceroy mansion.

Frigate - This can be bought in most shipyards.

Military Frigate - This can be bought in most shipyards.

Galleon - This can be bought in most shipyards.

War Galleon - This can be bought at most shipyards.

Carrack - You can buy this ship from shipyards in an town with a Viceroy mansion.

Caravel - You can buy this ship from shipyards in an town with a Viceroy mansion.

Liner - This is the most powerful ship in the game and can only be found in the town belonging to the English Viceroy.

Note: If you have the Harbour Master DLC, you will get the ability to build every ship on this list after fully upgrading a Shipyard (the required upgrades are only available once you have 99% Reputation in the town and you are in Administrative control). Anote that working on this trophy will also contribute to the Self Made DLC trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/235.jpg Keelhaul (B)

Rescue 100 sailors from sharks

Requires some grinding. Just manually attack pirate ships and move your selected ship around picking up sailors. There is no way of knowing how many you have so either keep note or just grind until the trophy pops.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/26A.jpg Landlubber (B)

Build 250 buildings

This will come naturally whilst going for the … Veni, … Vidi and … Vici trophies. All buildings count for this Warehouses, residences and plantations, etc. Having the DLCs will help towards this as they include several new building types.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/32F.jpg Lean Back (S)

Patrols fought 500 battles

You will definitely need to grind for this trophy. After you've finished the Trader Campaign, you should start focusing on this trophy. You will need about 10+ strong convoys with 6+ warships in each (to cut down on time spent grinding) and fully loaded with sailors.

Then move out all your convoys in a certain part of the map, and choose the ‘patrol’ option. It's easier if you stick close by your own towns, so you can repair your convoys when needed. Start attacking convoys so you will be at war with everybody, and let the grind begin.

Don't overwrite your save file you have after you beat the Trader Campaign. You'll need it because everyone will be at war with you during this trophy grind, and some time after. After your patrols have fought 500 battles, the trophy will unlock. You don’t need to fight all the battles manually; automating them is fine and will save you loads of time.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/783.jpg Davy Jones' Locker (B)

1,000 vessels sunk

Just sink 1,000 ships for this one. Be sure to give the order 'attack my target' command (select the red crosshairs) so your A.I controlled ships shoot to sink. The easiest way to go about this is to stock up on exploding barrels, then just drop them either next to, or in the path of the enemy ships. This trophy will also require some grinding.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/972.jpg Hunt For Booty (B)

Loot 25,000 barrels

You should wait until after you finish the Trader Campaign before attempting this trophy so you have plenty of ships. Have 10+ strong convoys with 6+ warships in each and simply start attacking trade convoys. Make sure your fleet is 40 or above in overall fleet strength compared to the enemy trade convoys. This way they'll surrender without a fight.

Remember to choose the ‘Plunder’ option after the battle. This trophy does require some grinding. Don't overwrite your save file you have after you beat the Trader Campaign. You'll need it because everyone will be at war with you during this trophy grind, and some time after.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/7E0.jpg Hoarding (B)

Possess 250,000 barrels of goods in a single game

Save this trophy for later on in the game when you are well established, and have lots of warehouses and money, then make a game save. Now choose your warehouse steward’s settings, and fire him. Next fire all your stewards and watch your money drop as the warehouse amasses all the goods. Hit the :l1: button and fast forward until you've amassed 250,000 barrels. Then reload your save as if nothing happened.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/7F4.jpg Clean Slate (B)

Highest fame as 'Trader'

This will one will come naturally as you progress through the Trader campaign.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/2DA.jpg Wolf In Sheep's Clothing (B)

Highest fame as 'Privateer'

This will come naturally whilst hunting for pirates. Just keep killing pirates and you'll get this eventually. You can check your progress in the logbook on the big pie Wheel. Note: You can also gain Privateer fame by attacking towns after obtaining a letter of marque from a Viceroy. You can get this if your reputation with one of the warring nations is 90% or higher. It costs 200,000 gold.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/E43.jpg Beelzebub (B)

Highest fame as 'Pirate'

This one will come naturally when you are trying to capture your 30 towns, for the ...vici trophy, without a letter of marque from any other nation.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/A2C.jpg Arrr! (B)

First successful boarding of a vessel

Fight a pirate convoy manually and hit the :square: button to manually board the ship. Note: you must win the battle for the boarding to count.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/C22.jpg Plundering (B)

Ambush a trader

Use your convoy to attack a trading convoy. You could save before you do this and then when you get the trophy reload the save if you don’t want to lose reputation with other nations.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/082.jpg Arm Of The Law (B)

Destroy 10 pirate hideouts

For this trophy, we recommend you find the pirate hideouts yourself with one of your convoys. Sometimes you'll see ships with black sails, then all you have to do is follow the ship until it disappears into the hideout. Once it comes out again you'll have discovered the hideout. You can then start planning and preparing on how to take it out.

In the beginning of the Trader Campaign, most hideouts will have somewhere between 4-800 pirates defending it, so you'll need at least double that amount of sailors in your attacking convoy, preferably 3-4 times as many to be sure you are successful because your sailors will die at a very fast rate.

Note: You can see information on pirate ship sightings in the town mansions, just don't buy the information from a tavern or else they won't count as discovered for the Crows Nest trophy.

Possess 5,000 cannons in a single game

Our suggestion is to just concentrate on the larger ships because you’re going to need them to capture cities any way. You could sell the smaller captured ships to the shipyards, and purchase the larger ships with some of the money, then harbor the ships so that they are not costing anything. You’re going to need time and money to get this trophy. You can check the amount of cannons you have by hitting :select: and see on the first page of the logbook.

Here is a breakdown for each type of ship’s amount of cannons from the smaller to the larger. They are as follows:

Pinnace – 8

Sloop – 14

Brig – 16

Barc – 20

Pirate Barc – 24

Corvette – 24

Military Corvette – 32

Fluyt – 16

Frigate – 26

Military Frigate – 36

Galleon – 36

Trade Fluyt – 36

Caravel – 40

Carrack – 40

War Galleon – 46

Liner – 50

Occupy 15,000 employees in a single game

JAKKRI got this trophy after he had fully upgraded 10 towns under his rule. Usually one plantation or business employs 50 workers. You'll need to pick up settlers from preferably governor or viceroy towns as they have the most settlers, then drop them off in your towns where needed.

For every 4 settlers, there is one worker the 3 others are family members for whom you'll also need to build housing for. For every business, you'll need need one residence. You'll get a notification from your warehouse steward by an icon hovering over the warehouse, if it needs more workers.

Note: Your sailors also count towards this trophy, so be sure sure to fill up your ships once you have plenty of money to cover their pay.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/48A.jpg Aye Aye, Capt‘n! (S)

Reach the highest rank

The highest rank possible to obtain is Ruler of the sea. You'll need a total worth of 6 million gold, have 6,000 employees, and a storage holding capacity of 25,000 barrels. You'll need many warehouses for this trophy and have businesses in multiple towns.

Note: Ships holding capacity counts as well towards the requirement. This trophy will come naturally as you continue on from finishing the Trader Campaign and continue to expand your economy and annex towns.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/C2C.jpg Disposable Weapons (S)

Use up 4,000 handheld weapons in boarding combats

You have to get this trophy by attacking ships manually, and then boarding them. Remember you board a ship by hitting the :square: button and getting close to the ship you want to board. I suggest that you set your ship’s strategy to defensive by pressing  on the D-Pad, and then selecting the blue shield which is defensive mode. This way, all 3 of your ships will board all 3 enemy ships and speed up the amount of handheld weapons being used. Don’t forget to replenish all your weapons and crew for your ships after each battle. This trophy will eventually come through lots of grinding.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/147.jpg D-Fence (S)

Defend a town from 5 attacks

We recommend you wait with this trophy until after you’ve finished the trader campaign, because you’ll need at least 3 towns under your rule for the enemy to attack one of them. (It is unknown why the enemy won’t attack with you less than 3) You will need to have a fort defense of at least 7/10 to be able to defend successfully.

You can increase the defense rating by building businesses in that town and bringing in settlers. It doesn’t matter how many times in a row your town gets attacked, the enemy won’t be able to take that town from you, if it has a 7/10 rating. Be sure also to have all your convoys in port when attempting this trophy as the enemy will mostly attack these first and you will only waste time.

It’s recommended to be at war with every nation too. When you have met these requirements, sit back and fast forward x10 scrolling over your towns now and then, if you see a burning ship icon on the map on your town, then that town is under attack. You can follow the battle by entering the town. Once you have defended the same town 5 times this trophy, will be yours. It doesn’t need to be 5 times in a row; the enemy can and probably will attack other towns under your rule, before you get this.

Reduce a nation's number of towns down to two

We suggest doing this trophy later on in the game because nations are constantly going to war with one another throughout your game, and eventually one of the 4 nations is going to shrink down to 3 or 4 towns which means you will not be able to take control peacefully (see Peacemaker). This leaves you to attack 1 to 2 towns. If the town’s defenses are really high, wait for another nation to weaken its defenses and then attack or make a game save and take it out yourself. The reason for the game save is that your reputation with other nations is going to drop a lot.

Maximize all abilities of a captain

Every one of your convoys has a captain with 6 abilities where you will need 5 points in each. The abilities are as follows:

Naval battles: Your captains gain experience in this by fighting naval battles and winning! (You don’t need to fight the battles manually)

Navigation: Your captains will gain experience in this simply by being on an automatic set trade route.

Trading: Your captains will gain experience in this simply by being on an automatic set trade route.

Ship repair:: Your captain will gain experience in this whenever his sailors are doing repairs on his ships. (This can be damage from naval engagements or simply wear and tear from sailing the seas)

Boarding ships: Your captain will gain experience in this by boarding enemy ships whilst in combat. (you’ll need to fight the battles manually for this one)

Visibility range: Your captains will only gain experience for this ability whilst on patrol. This will more than likely be the last ability you need to upgrade, and it will require some grinding.

Sometimes you’ll find ability trainers in taverns; be wary though because depending on your rank it can be quite expensive to buy a point for an ability.

Take control over 30 towns within one game

When you are working on finishing the trader campaign, focus on annexing towns peacefully so you’ll save yourself some time for the grind. What you want to do is, after the trader campaign, have a very good reputation with all the nations. This way you can take a couple of towns by martial means, without even entering war.

It’s recommended to have multiple pirate hideouts on the map 3-4, because then you can focus on destroying pirate convoys to get your reputation up high again. (You gain 5% reputation with all nations for each pirate convoy destroyed) Just rinse and repeat until you reach 30 towns.

Choose towns to attack that have no convoys defending them so your reputation will not fall more than it needs to. You may have to wait a bit until the pirate convoys respawn; that’s why it’s good to have as many pirate nests as possible on the map at one time.

If when you finish the trader campaign, you don’t have any pirate nests to use for boosting reputation with, then don’t sweat. Try to find the pirate ships (with black flags) on the map and follow them to their hideout. Do this until you have at least 3 hideouts and then begin the grind. If you follow this method, you’ll never lose any of the towns you’ve taken. Just try to never enter into proper war, below 25% reputation with any nation, because you’ll find that holding on to towns after you’ve taken them will be very hard work, as they won’t have a high enough defense rating.

You can only build up town defenses on towns you've taken by force with the Harbor Master DLC, so it might be worth investing in.

You will eventually have enough gold to invest in another ship early on in the game. Just enter the shipyard, and purchase one of the cheapest ships available.

First vessel sold

You can do this at any point, but the earliest is as soon as you start the game by visiting the Harbour Master and removing your boat from its convoy, then going to the Shipyard and selling it. Make sure you save before doing this, or else you will have to start a new game.

Perform an emergency repair

Whenever your ships are in a naval battles and/or sailing on your trade routes, they will take damage. Once a ship’s hull reaches 3% integrity, it will automatically make an emergency repair at sea. If you want to get this trophy out of the way faster, try to take a lot of damage in a battle with one ship, but win the battle then send it on a trade route again.

First naval battle

To engage in combat, you need to equip a ship/convoy with sailors, then you can either Patrol an area and wait to be attacked by pirates, seek out and destroy a Pirate Nest (shown on a landmass by a Skull and Crossbones) or attack a ship at random. You don’t even need to win; just start the battle and the trophy will pop.

Name a convoy

The description for this is a tad misleading as you won’t get it by using the auto naming feature; you have to physically change it on the convoy screen and changing the default name to something else. What you call your convoy is irrelevant; just call it something. You can change the name of a convoy at any point but the earliest is at the very start of the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/D8A.jpg The Message Is Trading, Dude! (B) (H)

A trading route has been active for 365 days

You can tell a convoy to do other things; just make sure they work the trade route when they’re not doing anything else and hope it doesn’t get attacked by pirates. After 365 days where you convoy has been active, the trophy will pop.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/2FF.jpg Hey Mr. Tallyman (B) (H)

Turn over manually a total amount of 100,000 barrels

By ‘Turn over’, the game means sell. ‘Barrels’ is the unit of measurement the game uses to say how much of a particular item you have, and to get this trophy you have to sell 100,000 barrels of commodities. It doesn’t matter what you sell or when as it’s all cumulative over the course of your game. The fastest way to get this is to focus on just a handful of industries e.g. Fruit, Rum, Sugar and Tobacco and setup Trade Routes to nearby towns you know will pay a good price for those goods.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1703/D1D.jpg Sea Dog (S) (H)

Spend 50 hours in the Caribbean

50 hours may sound like a lot, but the time will go very quickly, as you’ll be so into the game you won’t notice. Seriously this game eats away at the hours. Changing the system clock won’t help you with this trophy as you have to physically play the game and accumulate 50 hours on your save files. If you come up short after getting all the other trophies, then play the DLCs until this trophy pops.

I think you might be right now that I think about it i'll change it, thanks :)

The brig you can capture from a tradefleet or from the pirates.

About the harbor master dlc it might not have been released in North America yet, it's definitely available in the EU.

Edit: yup just checked you're right sorry about the mix up :). It will get corrected on the main site soon too.

Great job on the guide. Everything looked good. The only thing I would change personally would be the difficulty. Instead of the ranking you gave it, I would give it something closer to a 3/10. The last trophy I received in the game was playing for 40 hours, everything else is pretty easy. It is a great strategic game with contemporary feel to it. Again great job on the guide.

The glitch for Crow's Nest has nothing to do with buying hideout locations from taverns. I got Arm of the Law before Crow's Nest, and I did find all of the hideouts myself.

As far as the trophy regarding the crows nest, the best way to go about this is to find a pirate ship with a banner of a pirate you are unfamiliar with the location of his lair and follow him. Soon he will sail into the land as some point and you will see the ship disappear. At this time you just set up a patrol at said location and the next time ship sails from the hideout it will be counted as discovering a pirate hideout. It also helps to set the pirate activity at high to produce more pirate convoys and hideouts.

Step 1: Trader Campaign

You can refer to this map to see which commodities are available in each town: ipaddr.me Credit to: gazmaster1

1.)

Link is dead.

2.)

What is a good trade route? (or multiple)

3.)

What exactly is "low price".

4.)

What exactly is "high price"?

I used the 3 routes from the Beginners Guide and was actually loosing money with route 2+3.

Route 1 gave me around 500 gold/day plus

Route 2 gave me around 200 gold/day net loss

Route 3 gave me around 250 gold/day net loss

Buy product(s) where the price is low, for example buy rum where they produce it or have a lot of it, then take that rum and sell it where they don't have a lot of it and you will get a high price. Basic supply and demand.

You do need to micromanage your trade routes a bit because product prices will vary from time to time again supply and demand dictates this. If you think you're not making enough money either switch the product(s) you're selling on that route or change the route itself a bit.

I'll fix the link, thanks for the heads up.

Crow's Nest bugged out on me. I never bought intel about the locations of pirate bases and even after discovering and destroying 14 locations, the trophy hasn't popped.

I know that I personally didn't command a ship to discover them all as ships on automated trade routes discovered some on their own. But who knows what the conditions have to be.

After letting the game run a bit, I don't think there are anymore pirate bases after 14.

I did find all mine manually and you say that automated ships found some of yours, that could be the reason why your trophy didn't pop. Unfortunately I don't know of any solution to the glitch.
