This thread will be focused on supplying tips for various challenges from the Persona 4 Arena cast that players may be having trouble with. Ask questions with other PS3T members for any challenges you might have trouble with as well as discovering solutions for the infamous Challenge 30 for each character which forces players to become creative and create their own combo using whatever moves within them as the puzzle challenges you to.

You can earn the following trophies in Challenge mode and this thread aims to help make that possible for everyone:

Challenge Mode Overview

  • 1-10: These are basic normals and special moves, if you can do a Shoryuken motion then you should be able to complete all of these.
  • 11: These are Auto Combos which are done simply by mashing http://i.imgur.com/nByrQLM.gif
  • 12-20: Intermediate Combos, they're all short easy BnBs which is also a good base to take example from when you want to learn that particular character.
  • 21-29: These are comprised of both impractical combos and high level combos that may seem familiar to many players who were following the Japanese tech since Day 1.
  • 30 Expert Challenges: These challenges do not have a demonstration preview, it gives you requirements such as "Perform a 10,000 Damage Combo" or gives you a list of supers that you must chain together in the same combo. These challenges are meant to be puzzles for us to solve, once figured out they don't appear as hard as one would think.

Every Characters Challenge 30

Atlus decided to release free dlc containing a demo for ever characters Challenge 30, for reason unknown to us we can safely assume they either didn't have faith in us to figure it out ourselves or figured too many of them were being figured out fairly fast and decided to release it to the masses.

Each combo will be listed under each characters respective Challenge 30 solution.

Helpful Features

  • When perform the combo the game will highlight the part you messed up on in purple, you can use this as a mental note of where you're messing up and could possibly be practising on.
  • Always remember the Demonstration with :select: feature which allows you to preview the combo before doing it

General Tips

  • When you are having trouble with longer combos trying doing them in smaller portions first opposed to taking in the whole combo all at once.
  • You can press :start: inbetween moves if you need to, though it is not needed or recommended for a majority of the combos (if not all)
  • You can push your opponent to the corner if you wish to to avoid any problems you have with combos involving jump cancelling.
  • Remember with All Out Attacks you must mash out http://i.imgur.com/nByrQLM.gif and/or http://i.imgur.com/S8kPquX.gif a total of 16 inputs, you can even press both at the same time for two inputs. To get the proper follow up make sure you mash at least that amount during the All Out Attack animation.

Fightstick Question

This seems to be a frequently asked question during each game release and so I will answer it here. Purchasing a Fightstick WILL NOT make the challenges any easier. To most players a Fightstick is much more comfortable, universal and built for fighting games however switching from a controller that your hands are used to to a fightstick is a big change and even after a month of practice, your hands still may not execution moves as well as they did on the pad and this process won't happen overnight or even after a couple months unless you really grind out training with the fightstick. In short, don't waste $150 on a fightstick unless you really want to invest in for future use, spending the money simply for these challenges is not worth it and doesn't change anything.

Challenge #24

After the Raging Lion (214C) you must OMC cancel into j.A > j.B > stuff, immediately after the OMC you must air dash (66) and input the j.A and j.B.

Challenge #26

Buffer the inputs for 214, follow with OMC, then press B to pull Raging Lion quickly

Challenge #28

The alternate way to clear this trial. You can OMC after aerial 214-B (Raging Lion) and still pull off the combo. You need to build some meter before doing it though (5A x4 should do).

Challenge #28

Try to time your dash after Sukukaja's activation ends so that way as soon as it finishes, you go into a dashing 5B.

You can execute this combo in the corner without needing to dash cancel for the first portion (still need to dash cancel out of 5C).

Challenge #29

Tap up during 5C and buffer forward for IAD (Instant Air Dash). This while be very handy in Challenge 30 (credit to VesperArcade for the video):

No.30 Expert Challenge (Counter Hit Start): Inflict more than 8000 damage at once!

Solution:

(every time (d) is present, it means delay it);

2C > 236B > j.2C > OMB > tk j.2C > 5B > 2C > 5C (d) > 236AB (d) > j.2C > 2A > 2C > 5C > IAD > j.C > 2B > 5C > 236AB (d) > j.236A~A > j.236A~A > j.236A~A > j.236236C/D [all hits]

"You basically just have to feel it, after the OMB, you can jump very early, once you get a feel for how soon you can jump, it should be easier to get the j.2C down."

During the part where you use OMB, quickly tap Up then Doen for instant J.2C. Be cautious of your timing for 5C where you must delay for a bit before doing 236AB. I recommend practicing this portain of the combo.

2A, 2C, 5C, IAD, J.C, 2B, 5C, delay, 236AB

Mostly to know when to use Instant Air Dash. If you are struggling on that, refer to Challenge 29's notes.

Optional Solution:

Corner: 2C > 236B > j.2C > OMB > TK j.2C > 5B > 2C >5C > 236 AB > j.2C > 2A > 2C > 236 AB > j.2C > 2A > 2C > 5C > 5AAA > j.236A ~ A > 236236C

Challenge #25

Delay High Counter after hit confirming.

Challenge #28

Try in corner if you are struggling. After 214D, slightly delay your timing once Yu is close to the ground. *Input 5B and once again delay for 5C. *Once you come into 2D, mash D for additional attacks and it should give time for a quick dash with 5B combo follow up. For her last portion, Tap Up after you press 5C and buffer Forward for IAD (Instant Air Dash). *Don't mash J.B too fast. *Only input it timely whole holding Down so you can pull out 2B and 236236C in fast motion.

Challenge #29

For an instant Aerial Dragon Kick (214D) if you're having trouble doing a TK motion, tap up during 5C and input 8741236 motion (270 motion starting from Up)

Additional Notes:

Yukiko's Agidyne usually requires holding the D Button to get the full damage of the Super in order for it to be counted in the combo.

Challenge 25+ - By the time you reach these part of her runs, you'll be required to do a special move during the middle of Yukiko's combos. Amagi's Agi(SP) requires you to hold both the A and B buttons after startup and then release separately to keep Yu in a juggle state and to extend combos for the trials. If you're having trouble keeping one button while going for the other on pad during these parts, try remapping your buttons until you got the hang of it. Above all, don't use a mapped AB button. It will not work.

Pad Player Note:

It made by advised to remap A and B to your top bumpers.

Challenge #27

Once you set up Agi(SP), hold both buttons, wait for her Persona Konohana Sakuya to vanish. Release the A button, then go for 5C-2C. Input 236C (Maragi) while releasing the B button at the same time and if done correctly, Maragi should keep Yu in the air. Proceed to finish with the remaining inputs. You'll be doing this again for Challenge 30.

Challenge #29

This one is a bit odd to me. The demo shows air dashing as a requirement to connect J.D after releasing B button. But in my run I didn't air dash and yet the combo still connected and confirmed. What I can say is that after inputting Agi(SP) wait for Yukiko's Persona to disappear and then release the A button while inputting forward Air Dash, where you then must release the B button while pressing J.D simultaneously. If you can't get the air dash out, you can still get full completion by releasing B button and pressing J.D ()credit to VesperArcade for the video):

No.30 Expert Challenge: Inflict more than 10,000 damage at once!

Solution:

ArySys demo. Also requires Agi(SP) timing. First max out Yukiko's Fire Boost levels (8th cap) with 214C (214CD to get it quicker). Then do the notations.

236CD (Maragi), 236AB (Agi(SP), hold both buttons), release A button, 5C, 2C, release B button, 236C (Maragi), 5C, 236A (Agi, 2 hits), 236236D (Agidyne, hold D) x2 (input the second motion when the first Agidyne is finished to get the second one fast, also hold D).

No.30 Expert Challenge: Inflict more than 9000 damage at once!

Solution:

2C (fully charged) > 2B > 5C > 236B > 5A > 5 > 2 > 5 > 236 > 214B > OMB > j.B > 2B > 5C > 236B > 214B > 236236B > OMC (on the second hit) > 214214C

2C forces Fatal Counter if released right before Take-Mikazuchi disappears, this is the only way to make that particular combo work.

Guide by SolitaryGenesis

Kanji Challenge #30 is considered to be the most difficult and time-consuming trial out of the entire cast based on the number of strict links it has. Chances are this trial would most likely prevent you from ever obtaining the "Combo Crazy" trophy. However with muscle memory and a little bit of luck, it may be possible to overcome this level of difficulty. Here, we'll go things step by step to lower the intensity level just to get the feel of Kanji's combos when the timing is needed.

For starters, we'll go with the notations.

2C(fully charged), 2B, 5C, 236B, 2A, 5B, 2B, 5C, 236B cancel to 214B, OMB, J.B, 2B, 5C, 236B cancel to 214B, 236236A, OMC(on 2nd hit), 214214C

This is the notation from the ArcSys demo. There are other combos in combo vids that bypass 9000 damage, but they all still require 2C to be a Fatal Counter before anything else, and that's including more links to be on hit.

To make this simple or at the very least easy to remember, let's try combining the inputs to strings of combo parts.

2C (Fully Charged), 2B, 5C, 236B - First Combo

2A, 5B, 2B, 5C, 236B to 214B OMB - Second Combo

J.B, 2B, 5C, 236B to 214B - Third Combo

236236A, OMC (on second hit), 214214C - Fourth Combo

The first part of the combo starts with the first link. You are required, for every combo Arcsys demo or not, to begin 2C with a Fatal Counter by holding C for a set number of seconds and releasing it before Kanji's Persona Take-Mikazuchi vanishes. A few tips to go along if you are struggling.

~If you listen to Take-Mikazuchi's SFX, you hear three levels of static before it vanished. Keep track of when the third static noise ends giving you the chance to pull out 2C as a Fatal Counter.

~Notice the blue aura surrounding Kanji. After it fades, it signals for the C button's release for an additional split second. Use that as a guide as well.

After you pulled the Fatal Counter, begin the first string.

The second link involves remembering the second combo. However, this is a different case that muscle memory needs to play a big factor. I strongly encourage practising this combo a set number of times to get the timing correctly, for it involves complete inputs without delay. Take into note that chaining from 5B to 2B has a much smaller frame that in-puting with even slight delay will drop the entire combo. You can practice this combo even if the opponent is blocking just to memorize it.

Also noting for the second combo is after 2B, slightly delay your timing until 2B fully hits, giving you the signal for 5C. Rapidly tapping before 2B also works. 236B comes next but this time, you must pull out its command grab or it will remain in its previous attack dropping the entire combo as a result. If you have problems attempting to cancel 236B to 214B, do a 2363214 command (Quarter Half Circle). But to 236B slightly slow during 5C's animation, then go for 63214 to get the cancel early. You can also mash B during your inputs. Afterwards, do OMB.

Now we go to perhaps the worst of all. Timing J.B after OMB. I regret to say, but there is no easy strategy to nail this portion down due to the even stricter frames needed so overall, luck is needed.

Actually, the real tip is simple. Hit J.B BEFORE Yu reaches the ground, and only on THE LAST FRAME before Yu recovers. On the ArcSys demo, you'll see Yu's head connecting with the floor, but Kanji's J.B was able to connect and able to follow up with 2B to 5C correctly. After using OMB, hold Up-Forward and the rest depends on the timing of J.B. Try to time the input when Yu begins to descend halfway. You can mash B while holding Down during your jump state to quickly pull off 2B. Similarly, during 2B, release Down quickly and mash 5C to quickly pull out the move. Slightly delay your timing during 5C, do 236B to 214B, following the advice on this notion.

The final portion of the combo is fortunately the easiest. During 236236A (Bet Ya Can't Take This!), wait until the second hit connects, then buffer the input for 214214C (Ass Whoopin', Tatsumi-Style) during OMC.

During 236236A and on the Second hit do the notation (214OMC > 214C). I recommend practising this one part.

Alternative by VeeT1

after OMB just go straight into 5C > 236B to 214B > 236236A (2 hits) > OMC > 214214C. After grab super just TK buffer B airgrab into 236A.

You can practice that TK grab after super raw as well by itself. Finished it a few more times alot more consistantly with the TK air grab after super technique. A good alternative to J.B > 2.B i must say.

2C (FC) > 2B > 5C > 236B > 2A > 5B > 2B > 5C > 236B to 214B > OMB > 5C > 236B to 214B > 236236A (2hits) > OMC > 214214C > TK B airgrab into 236A

http://i.imgur.com/vmixrvg.png http://i.imgur.com/HiTyGk4.png

Challenge #26

After a throw, time 5B in order to keep Yu in the air. Your chances of hitting J.C from a super jump will increase this way. As for J.B to J.A, you might want to practice on that timing. It's a fast input like Kanji's 5B to 2B. At that point, try to mash 5B once you land and once J.A's fast input gets hit (credit to VesperArcade for the video):

No.30 Expert Challenge: Inflict more than 10,000 damage at once!

Solution:

For Teddie's trial #30, begin the combo by inflicting Fear to Yu via Puppeteddie (214-B). Muscle Drink is needed to start the combo with max damage. You can easily get the item by resetting the trial via Select and spamming D until the item comes out. Keep track of how many you do for it comes out every 13th cup. Once you get it down, start with Fear on Yu before you pull out the Drink item, then do the notation.

SolitaryGenesis

(214214C > j.A (must have 3 hits until the counter reaches 4) > 236B > > OMB > 5B > SuperJump > j.C > j.B > j.A > 5B > 5C > 2B > SuperJump > j.A (all hits connect) > 236236D > explode

Chaoschao222

Alternative method with slightly easier execution:

214214C > j.A (all) > j.236B > OMB > 5B > 5C > 2B > jc > j.A (all) > dj.A (all) > j.236A > 236236D~release > sj.236236D~release.

Challenge #26

Naoto's 26 involves IAD'ing and microdash 5A, but you can cheat and go to the corner and just do 5C > j.C > 5A without the need for either of those "tricks." 5A is still tricky, but arguably easier than the microdashing alternative.

Challenge #29

By the time you reach the part where 5C is required, hold Up then buffer Forward twice for IAD (Instant Air-Dash). If done correctly, 5C will follow with Naoto jumping and then pull out the Air Dash for J.C. At that point, do the inputs for Half-Trigger Megldo (214-CD) and Naoto will be back on the ground quickly.

I strongly encourage practising the inputs of 5B, 236A (5D cancel), 214C, 2AB, 236A. That way you'll get that part of the combo down when you reach the ground after Half-Trigger Megldo. And much like my other notes, I've done this and it works (credit to VesperArcade for the video):

Tip: You just gotta feel the recovery of D's aim cancel, if you can do that and then go into another 236B relatively soon after, you'll make it, especially if you use a FC starter (236236B setup to give Fear before the combo

Challenge #27

While not difficult, the notations do not exactly show the proper way. Akihiko's Cyclone Level must be at 2 before you begin his throw, which would then turn to Lv.3. This is the notation: 236D, 214C, Throw, 4A, 4C, 4B (hold), 4C ,4AB ,4D, 6B, 236236B (credit to VesperAcade for the video):

No.30 Expert Challenge: Perform a 150+ hit Combo!

Solution:

236B > 6C > FA > 214214C > 236AB (all hits) > OMB > 214C > 6C > FA >214214C

Challenge #29

This is one of the worst. Don't let the demonstration trick you for there is a lot more that isn't said in the notations. From the demo, you see Kirijo's Standing B during her combos. They are all moving slightly left (4B), but what it doesn't tell you is the input needs to be holded down for it to come out strong. This goes for both versions of 4B so they all need to be connected.

You also need to input the first 4B as early as possible in order to keep Yu in the air giving you time for 2B. If Yu's not kept in the air or close to the ground, the combo will drop and must be restarted. But then comes to tricky part similar to Dante's 9th trial in UMvC3. After chaining 2B with Bufula (2(charge)C), you have to input 4B and keep it holding it until you can get the hit confirm, giving you time to for Coup Droit (4(charge)6B). But the timing is very strict here.

The last part is also tricky. You HAVE to let Coup Droit go farther without adding any inputs. By the time it had got distance close to Yu's, input Mitsuru's Bufudyne (236236-D) and it should connect. You will mess up a few inputs here and there, so I recommend practicing 4B charge into Coup Droit and then Bufudyne. Inputting the super early will cause Coup Droit to be pushed back and the distance far away from Yu. Credit to SolitaryGenesis for this info.

(10x in one combo)

Solution:

~5B (neutral, don't charge), Coup Droit-A, 5A, Coup Droit-A, 5A, Coup Droit-A, 5A, 5B, Sweep, Coup Droit-B, OMC, Dash, 2B, OMB, Mabufudyne, Coup Droit-EX, Coup Droit-A, 5C, Coup Droit-A, 5C, Coup Droit-A, 5C, Coup Droit-EX, 5C, Coup Droit-B

"The Ice Shards to Coup Droit will be tricky so I recommend getting that into memory, especially to Coup Droit-EX. Other than that, not to hard once you get the gist of it". Credit to SolitaryGenesis for this info.

Alternative:

4B > A Coup Droit > A >A Coup Droit > AA > B Coup Droit > 2A > A Coup Droit> omb > Mabufudyne > EX Coup Droit > 2A > A Coup Droit+C > (B Coup Droit+C)×3 > B Coup Droit

Solution:

Make sure Elizabeth is in the corner and that there is enough space between the A.I the the corner on the other side as displayed in the video.

236236D > 236236A

From here count to 10 seconds and then proceed with the following inputs:

214CD > 236236C > 5B > 2B > 236C > OMB > 2C > 214B > 2C > 236AB > 5C > 2C > 236A

SolitaryGenesis Solution:

"Someone with the alias "Saki Tachibana" found another way to get Challenge 30 down. I mixed the combo with ArcSys demo and it pulled out well. The notations are as follows for those struggling."

236236D > 236236A > wait 10 sec > 214CD > 236236C > 5B (all hits) > 2B > 236C (as much hits possible) > OMB > 2C > 236AB > 5C (2 hits) > 2C > 214B > 2C > 236AB

Additional Advcie: In alot of Labrys combos you will have air BnBs that make use of j.C > Guillotine Aerial, the timing is alittle confusing with this. The make the odd timing easier the best way to connect Guillotine Aerial is to make sure you hit the opposing character with the tip of j.C opposed to the bottom half of it otherwise the timing will be much more strict when trying to connect it.

Additional Advice: Because Shadow Labrys has sort of a puppeteer-esque playstyle where you can controller basically two beings at once simultaneously using her Persona at the same time as her own attacks it might be recommended to map your http://i.imgur.com/rU9jKLU.gif and http://i.imgur.com/BdBBOnv.gif to your top bumpers if you are using a regular PS3 Controller (or other form of pad controller)

Titanomachia: During the super freeze, Shadow Labrys can input a string of commands for Asterois. Afterwards, Asterois will perform the commands inputed and end it with an near full-screen attack that sets the area around itself ablaze with dark fire. If no commands are inputted, then Asterois will go straight to the full-screen attack.

Any Persona attacks you see within the combo before "Titanomachia Finish" are the commands you must input during Titanomachia and you must time Shadow Labrys own attacks accordingly

Someone made tut vids for all the characters already? Only 3 people on the JPN list have all challenges but more interesting is the score attack mode -_-

Yeah my buddy Kurushii has been on ontop of everything Persona 4 Arena, he has a JP PS3 and imported the game. He went through and recorded all the challenges for us right away, tested all the modes and answered any questions people had.

Score Attack will be brutal, even just the same tidbits of information I saw makes me scared for my life. I have a thread for that in the works as well.

@Setsuna:

this guide for only no.30,i think u need more posts or other topic tips for challenge from at less no 25 to 29.

The thread is designed to answer questions when people run into trouble during those later challenges and then add them to the initial post, obviously the game isn't out yet so there isn't really any members who have any problems yet however people will and when that time comes the thread will start to fill up.

Please reference the Blazblue Continuum Shift Challenge Mode Help Thread as an example of what this thread is trying to do.

Atlus released free dlc to view demos for each characters Challenge 30, either they figured people were figuring them out too fast or they originally intended for us to actually need them lol

Either way here are the demos of what Atlus wanted us to do for the challenges (recorded by Kurushii and uploaded by Jourdal)

Question about Yu's No.24 challenge

How can you get Jump A after cancelling the raging Lion? I always drop on the floor with stand A but never get jump A

You have to quickly dash mid air after OMC, then proceed to the rest of the combo, you can also pause it and perform the timing of the moves just right.

Also, for Yu's challenge 30, it starts with 214B then 214D (then the rest), not 236B then 214C, got confused a couple of times...

Solution:

Make sure Elizabeth is in the corner and that there is enough space between the A.I the the corner on the otherside as displayed in the video.

236236D > 236236A

From here count to 10 seconds and then proceed with the following inputs:

214CD > 236236C > 5B > 2B > 236C > OMB > 2C > 214C > 2C > 236AB > 5C > 2C > 236A

This should be 214B, not C. (I did a different combo, but I know for a fact there's not enough time for Maragidyne anywhere mid-combo here.

Solution:

236B > 214C > 214214C > 2B > 5C > OMB > 5C (Cross Under) > 214214C > 2B > 5C > 214214C

On this, that should be 214D, by the time 214C hits, the opponent is too far to do a cross-through X-Slash.

I heard that this one was easier than most fighters so I decided to watch Yu's challenges:

I thought:

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn296/YenRou/6bf2bd5f.jpg

Well this is another plat I won't be getting. Probably never will get a beat em up platinum.

But how is the timing compared to KOFXIII? Is it just as strict? I can't even chain the most basic combos flawlessly in KOF but I somehow managed to get most of the characters up to challenge 6/10 there.

Will I stand any chance against this beast or should I go back playing children's games like Naruto and DBZ :D?
