Introduction:

The story has been told a million times, orcs and goblins against humans. This time, you are on the other side of the fence however. You control an orc and a goblin that are on a mission to kill the Emperor, the man who has persecuted both your races for years. This game has a difficult to manage combat system, but if you can deal with that, it has a great story and interesting quests. You will soon find yourself immersed in the gameplay.

Step One - First Playthrough

With the exception of the story and difficulty related trophies, the vast majority of the trophies are missable. Below you'll find clear step by step, chapter by chapter instructions on when you should be unlocking all the missable quest related trophies. While it's likely the various miscellaneous trophies will come naturally during the course of 1 playthrough, you may miss a few. However, you don't need to worry about these too much, as you can consciously work towards any you may have missed on your second playthrough. Note that there is absolutely no backtracking in this game, and skills cannot be reassigned, so if you happen to not take a skill necessary for a trophy, or don't upgrade your armour at any point, you will end the game missing some trophies relating to these tasks.

I recommend playing through on the Easy difficulty for your first playthrough to get a hang of the combat and gameplay in general. Extreme difficulty will present quite a challenge, so it is good to have a grasp of the game before you play it. At the end of this step you're aiming to unlock the majority of the games trophies excluding those that relate to the higher difficulties and "Big chest lover".

Note: "Big chest lover" must be unlocked over the course of two playthroughs. Please refer to the trophy guide for more details.

Chapter One:

7 missable trophies – "The hard way", "Talk it out", "Deratizator", "Well trained", "Hand shake", "A hair too late", "One less nut case"

When you first arrive in Shantytown, before you get to the Black Hand Camp, you will meet another orc, Sork, outside the gates. You will watch a cutscene and be given three dialogue options:

  • Arkail: Shut your damn mouth, traitor! – "The hard way" (B)
  • Styx: Uhm, Sergeant, you gonna let him do that? – "Talk it out" (B)
  • Arkail: [shut up]

The first two will both give you a trophy. Pick one of them, it doesn’t matter which. After the trophy has popped, reload the autosave file, which was right before this event, and choose the other option. This will grant you both trophies.

Once you arrive in Black Hand Camp, there is an order that you can follow to make sure you do every mission:

1. Talk to Monkey

2. Challenge the Smith

3. Talk to Fox and go see Sarkyss through her

4. Meet Sarkyss and then head back to Black Hand Camp

5. Challenge Fox

6. Talk to Monkey, he will tell you about a Scourge. Agree to wipe it out

7. Clear all three waves of the Scourge – "Deratizator" (B)

8. Challenge Monkey

9. Talk to The Last (he will refuse to fight)

10. Talk to the smith and ask about The Last

11. Talk to Fox and ask about Dorek, then agree to go take him down

12. Find and kill Dorek – "Well trained" (B)

13. Head back to the Camp and challenge The Last – "Hand shake" (B)

14. Talk to Raven and go burn the chapel

15. Talk to Fox, she will tell you about another Bloodjaw in the area. Agree to help him

16. Clear the map, and you will find a woman named Brune at the end of it being assaulted. Rescue her – "A hair too late" (B)

17. Talk to Raven and agree to leave

18. Once you are back in the Black Hand Camp, choose to Save Arken

19. Clear the map and deal with the shaman – "One less nutcase" (B)

Chapter Two:

9 missable trophies – "Class struggle", "The beast and the beast", "Throat slitter", "I don’t like chit chat", "All this for that", "You mythed!", "No quarter", "Samaritan", "Guidance counselor"

You will start off in a prison, and be forced to fight in an arena style combat called the Row. Once you have completed that you will appear in a camp lead by the resistance. To obtain all of the missable quest trophies, complete the quests in the following order.

1. Talk to Adek and learn of the miner’s planned revolt. Agree to go calm them

2. Clear the area – "Class struggle" (B)

3. Return to the camp and talk to Garok

4. Ask him about his past and continue asking questions until you are given the option to tell him that Dorek is dead. Do so – "The beast and the beast" (B)

5. Talk to Adek and inquire about the foreman. Tell him that Styx will handle the Inquisition alone

6. Clear the area – Throat slitter(B)

7. Talk to Adek again and enquire about the foreman again to be sent to the next area

8. When you reach the final area where the Head Foreman is, when the first dialogue option comes up, choose “Arkail: [Kill]” – "I don’t like chit chat" (B)

9. Talk to the Shaman and agree to get water for him

10. Clear out all the goblins – "All this for that" (B)

11. Talk to Braggart and choose dialogue options to continue the conversation – "You mythed!"(B)

12. Talk to Adek and enquire about the remaining foremen to be sent to the next area

13. Make a save file before you enter the final area

14. Enter and defeat the orcs there, a cutscene will start

15. Choose to kill the orc – "No quarter" (B)

16. Reload your save and spare his life. It is important you do this in the correct order, because you need Dakath alive for later – "Samaritan" (B)

17. Talk through the cutscenes until you are able to appoint a runner, a strategist, and a warrior. Appoint Dakath as the runner, Drakane as the strategist, and Garok as the warrior – "Guidance counselor" (S)

Chapter Three:

5 missable trophies – "Nobody’s perfect", "Slicer-Dicer", "Into the shadow", "Inner rage", "Anger management"

You will start out in a monastery talking to a monk. He will inform you that there is an Imperial in the monastery.

1. Agree with Styx and hunt down the Imperial officer – "Nobody’s perfect" (B)

2. After you enter Styx’s past, make a save file. Clear the first area, and then choose whichever option you don’t want. Reload, then choose the option you do want – "Slicer-Dicer" (B), "Into the shadow" (B)

3. After you enter Arkail's past, make a save file. Clear the first area, and then choose whichever option you don’t want. Reload, then choose the option you do want – "Inner Rage" (B), "Anger management" (B)

Chapter Four:

1 missable trophy – "Regicide the first"

When given the option, kill the emperor. – "Regicide the first" (B)

Chapter Five:

There are no missable trophies in chapter five.

Step Two - Extreme Playthrough

The next step is to complete the game on the highest difficulty for the "Bloodjaw" trophy (which will also unlock the lower difficulty trophies). Work towards any trophies you may have missed on your first playthrough, as well as collecting the remaining chests needed to unlock "Big chest lover".

Finish Of Orcs and Men at the highest difficulty level

To get this trophy, you will have to beat the game on the hardest difficulty. This will actually pose a bit of challenge, and I suggest playing through on Easy first to get the miscellaneous trophies and learn the gameplay. The difficulty related trophies do stack, so if you get this trophy the others will all unlock.

Some basic tips:

The most important thing to know before you start your extreme playthrough, is that it's highly recommended you level up Arkail's stamina pretty much exclusively. For Styx, you can level up his critical chance or strength, but you will need Arkail to be able to take hits while Styx does damage. Always upgrade stun chance when you are upgrading skills, this will be required for the final boss. In every area, before you fight, try and assassinate as many enemies as possible. Keep in mind that an assassination is always a one hit kill, so try to assassinate harder enemies before the fight starts. More difficult enemies have more yellow health bars, while easier enemies have dark green bars.

There are two areas in which you'll have the most trouble. Here I have to thank user Lightsp33d1987 for his help, I couldn't have done it without his advice. The first difficult area is The Row. You will have to fight three enraged orcs, and Arkail will not have any equipment. There are two strategies that can be employed here, both of which have the same idea behind them. Once Arkail falls, and he will, use Styx to lure the orcs to the back corner of the area, while keeping them far enough away that they cannot hit you. Loop around and keep running outside their reach. You are significantly faster than them, so you will be able to either go back and revive Arkail and be able to attack while he is alive, then repeat - or simply stay out of their reach and continue to turn around and throw basic attacks at them. Both strategies WILL take a long time, but they are the easiest ways to complete this area.

The second difficult area is the final boss. You will have to fight through a wave of men, a wave of orcs, then fight the final boss. If you die, you will have to fight the previous two waves and watch the cutscenes again. The strategy here is a bit different than you are likely used to. Instead of being purely defensive with Arkail, you are going to use your stun smash over and over on the boss. Between that and Styx's buff that makes every crit stun, you should be able to stun lock the boss and stop him from summoning more orcs or healing. Continue to deal damage as fast as you can while keeping him stunned. It will likely take quite a bit of trial and error, but when you manage to stun him properly, he will have no opportunity to react. Once the boss himself is dead, the fight is over, you do not have to fight the orcs remaining, so don't worry about Arkail getting dangerously low health.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1270/F7F.jpg The hard way (B)

Answer Sork’s provocation in a language he understands

This will be near the start of the game, when you first enter shantytown. You will see a group of humans and one orc ahead. After a cutscene, you will approach them, and the orc will provoke you. You will have three dialogue options. Choose “Arkail: Shut your damn mouth, traitor!” and this trophy will pop. Be warned though, you will then have to fight several guards. Or you can simply reload the autosave which was right before this point and choose a different dialogue option. This is also the cutscene where you get "Talk it out".

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1270/D78.jpg Talk it out (B)

Have Styx calm things down a bit

See "The hard way". Instead of choosing that dialogue option, choose “Styx: Uhm, Sergeant, you gonna let him do that?”. This will grant you the trophy. Be warned, you will then have to fight several guards.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1270/65E.jpg Manual worker (B)

Defeat a boss without using a manual attack (assassinations excluded)

To get this trophy you will have to defeat a boss without ever using the auto attack (the attack that starts when you press :cross:) for whichever character you are controlling. Personally I got this in the Sewers on my way out of Shantytown, defeating the boss of the final area by taunting him and his allies and using Disengagement repeatedly.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1270/4FB.jpg To each his branch (B)

Learn every skill in a single tree.

This is achieved by unlocking all the available skills under one designation (offense/defense etc.) on one of the characters. The earliest level you can do this is 10. Once all of the abilities under one of the trees is unlocked, this trophy will pop.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1270/293.jpg My house! (S)

Learn and improve every Skill in a single tree.

After you have learned all the skills in a single tree while getting "To each his branch", you simply need to upgrade each of the abilities. You can only upgrade each one once. The earliest this trophy can be unlocked is level 13, as that is when you are allowed to upgrade the last ability in a tree. Keep in mind that you will need to upgrade the actual tree itself as well.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1270/243.jpg I’m a killer (S)

Assassinate 47 enemies

You can assassinate enemies when you are playing as Styx by stealthing and walking up behind an enemy, then pressing :cross: when prompted. Once you have assassinated 47 enemies, this trophy will pop.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1270/E38.jpg You crack me up (S)

Break 15 spinal columns while Berserk

When Arkail is berserk, he will sometimes grab a low health human and snap their spine on his knee. After he does this 15 times, this trophy will pop. Note: you do not have to be controlling him when he snaps their spines.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1270/F32.jpg Big chest lover (G)

Find and empty 20 chests

There are chests hidden throughout the game. Most of them will be in optional side missions, so to get this trophy you will need to do most if not all of the side missions. The chests do not show up on the map, so keep an eye open for them and try not to miss any.

1. Entrance to Shantytown, just before entering the Black Hand Camp. You will have to fight a group of guards and one orc, it is just off to the right. - Chapter One

2. In Jared’s camp. Obath will ask you to kill Jared. Agree and head over there. After you have dispatched him, grab the chest in the area. - Chapter Two

3. Just after you deal with Jared, you will enter an area with quite a few soldiers. Once you have killed them all, there will be a fairly obvious chest in the area. - Chapter One

4. During the quest to purge the Scourge, you will come across this chest. It will be in the area where you intercept the second wave. - Chapter One

5. As you are on your way to burn the chapel, you will find this in an alley that you have to pass through, with only one guard and a few civilians (and a cow) there. - Chapter One

6. In the sewers there will be a giant fork in the path. Go down the path that leads to a dead end, this chest will be obvious in the middle of a large group of goblins. - Chapter One

7. On the quest to kill the Head Foreman, just before you get to the last area there is a fork off to the side. There will be a chest in there. - Chapter Two

8. After killing the Head Foreman, talk to Ardek again and ask about the remaining foremen. You will be transported to deal with them. In the second main area, you will find this chest. - Chapter Two

9. When you are assaulting the Inquisition base, this will be in the last area before you leave the Pillar. - Chapter Two

10. In the last floor before you reach Arkence, you will find this box in a large room off to the side. It will be fairly hard to miss if you are checking your map regularly. - Chapter Three

11. In the monastery, as you are trying to escape, take a right into a small side passage and you will find a chest. - Chapter Four

12. In the Island of Laments, after escaping the monastery, you will find this chest just before arriving at the palace. It will be in a small nook guarded by a number of guards. - Chapter Four

You will have to do two playthroughs to get this trophy, since you need 20 for the trophy, and there are only 12 in one playthrough.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1270/377.jpg Jack of all blades (S)

Hit eight enemies with a single attack

The best way to do this is to use Rain of Blades. In fact, I think this may be the only viable way to do this. What I did was run into one of the areas in the catacombs with a lot of weak goblins and used Taunt then Carapage with Arkail. Then I ran up and used Rain of Blades in the middle of all of them as Styx, and the trophy came no problem.

Put together the best squad possible to assault the Pillar

Before you can get this trophy, you will have to have gone after the rest of the foremen, after you have killed the Head Foreman. You must choose to spare the orc at the end of this quest, or you will not be able to get this trophy – see "Good Samaritan". Your father will tell you to appoint a runner, a strategist, and a warrior. Talk to him and appoint Dakath as the runner, Drakane as the strategist, and Garok as the warrior, and this trophy will pop.

nice guide, thanks!

only thing i am missing is extreme mode, the final battle.

do you have tips for that?

i did read, try and use lightspeeds (thanks!) tips and it was smooth sailing up to the row and then to this final battle, which i can't the boss stun locked.

I'll be honest, I am just as stuck as you on this one. I am stuck on the final boss, every time I get there, assuming I beat the four orcs beforehand, who are sometimes easy as hell, sometimes stun lock me permanently and are literally impossible... assuming I get past them, I get to the boss and he INSTANTLY summons a third orc, which becomes an unwinnable battle.

During the boss fight he can summon up to 4 if you kill them can resummon them, Focus on one mutant DPS like hell you need to be quick once one is dead now you only have the boss and one mutant so agro them both with your orc and focus using stun smash only on the boss and DPS like made with the goblin using poisons etc and as long as you a using stun smash nearly every other will keep boss stunned this will stop him being able to summon any more mutants and also it will stop him healing himself if you haven't upgrade skills to stun more i personally think you will struggle to defeat him.

I definitely will. This fight is basically a matter of luck for me, cause in the dozen or so attempts I have done so far, every time he has summoned a third orc before I focused one of the others down. I just need to do it over and over until I get lucky, but because of the long fights and cutscenes beforehand, it is taking FOREVER. This fight and the Row alone are making this game distasteful for me.

EDIT: I am 99% sure that this fight is literally impossible. I use my 100% stun on him and he simply walks through it over and over again, and then when I get him down to 70%, he heals back to full, repeatedly. I ONCE got him down to around 20% being the luckiest ever with perma stuns, but then he got out, healed to full and killed me. I have never found a game which is more impossible than this due to the shitty combat system combined with extreme difficulty being way over the top for a game with no training options (I did every single side quest possible).

Try and agro them to one side he can only summon if he is close and did you upgrade stun smash so it has increased chance of stunning as it sounds like you dont otherwise you should be able to keep him stunned and combat aint that bad just got to be tactical and like the row you cant just stay still the way I did it was use goblin run throw run throw this way you never get hit and makes it an easy fight yeah the final boss is tricky but mot impossible if you have your stats in defensive only.

Yeah, the Row was easy, just tedious (also I got caught on an invisible wall and died once after running around for like 15 minutes. Not pleasing). I do actually have everything in defensive, and pure stunning, but I run at him and stun and he just walks around me anyway. I've only got the stun lock to work ONCE, and it wore off just before he died =/

Hi guys just got Big Chest Lover in playthrough one opening a BAG and not a chest while on the mission to assault the pillar.

Check out my trophies which prove this as I have now broken off from my easy playthrough and have restarted on extreme which is a painful experience so far!

Extreme only has 2 hard parts which is the row and the end fight did you not finish the game on easy then?

Actually I like the challenge each fight brings in extreme mode, kind of reminds me of mass effect 2 and 3 on insanity the way the fights are going and utilising each characters skillset.

wrong difficulty setting for mass effect games

No I thought the only reason for 2 playthroughs was to open 20 chests thus I don't feel the need to waste 10 more hours finishing easy mode so I have moved straight onto extreme. Saving after every fight like I've got OCD!

You can Plat using one play through there is plenty of chests i got the open chests trophy about 3/4 of the way through the game.

Anyone got any tips on how to get this to pop? (Manual Worker)

I've tried on all the bosses I can think of, even did on the last (Zealot), still won't happen.

I'm not even close to using fast/auto-attack (X)..

This crap is getting pretty tiring now..Only thing stopping me from platinum.

The guide was very helpful to beating the game in bloodjaw difficulty. It took me two attempts, as the first time I played I made Arkail a DD and did not have any added debuff effects to my skills. That being said; there are quite a few places in the game where you will have to kite and revive Ark. While focusing on one enemy and whittling away at its health. The levels are big enough for Styx to run around and avoid damage in these instances.

I also found tips scattered around that stated to focus on agility for Styx and stamina for Ark. I did save for two or three skill points that I placed in Styx's stamina. All other stats can be padded with gear found throughout the game. I focused on stamina and phy dmg -% gear for Ark, and dodge +% and agility on Styx.

The last boss was rather easy compared to other group fights e.g. The Mire :(

I focused only on the boss from the start, ignoring the berserkers. Stun punch and the occasional taunt for added debuff and crowd control. While Styx charged sharpshooter and then used throwing knife to stun lock. At one point I leveled armor breaker with bleed effect, which was really helpful. And if you also leveled poisoned daggers bleed and poison stack.

I hope this helps. :psn:
