Glitched Trophies?

It's been brought to my attention that there may be even more glitched trophies. I had no trouble unlocking any trophies, but if a trophy happens to glitch on you, there is a simple fix;

Firstly, make sure to save before continuing in the story. If the trophy glitches, delete your GAME DATA, reinstall it and then sync your trophies. Then reload your save game and attempt the trophy, it should unlock this time. If it fails, your only option is to start a new game.

General Game Tips

  • Keep an eye out for yellow orbs dropped from enemies you kill. These are rare items that disappear quickly, drop what you are doing and grab them quickly.

  • When you are knocked back by an enemy, press :l2: or :cross: to land on your feet.

  • Always have words that increase your item drop rate percentage equipped on your favourite weapon and magic. You wont have the high percentage drops until new game+, but its still useful.

  • When you enter new areas, look for sparkling points. You can find raw materials by examining them, always check them, except, perhaps when you are on your speedrun.

Step One: Speed Run

Start the game on easy. If you follow the steps listed in Lightspeed Fighter, you will be able to beat the story in 5-7 hours, leaving some time in the middle to complete quests. The game starts off with a prologue, a mini-tutorial section. During this time, spam physical attacks to earn Combo Fanatic & Combo Master, use  to roll if you need to cover up ground. If you happen to miss the trophy, check Combo Master for other easy ways to obtain.

As you progress through the game, many quests will send you through the Northern Plains. Kill all sheep each time you pass through until you have earned The Sheep Whisperer. Sheep disappear after completing part one, unless you have the DLC. Once you are given a quest to collect Vapor Moss, part one is minutes away from the grand finale.

After certain events in the story, side-quests will become available. Be sure to complete at least 20 side-quests in part one to earn Village Handyman and Jack of all Trades. Another quest trophy, Go-To Guy can also be achieved in part one without hindering your time too much, but it's not necessary. See Side-Quests and Side-Quests, Continued for a detailed description. Part one is nearing an end once you head to the mansion, make sure to complete all necessary side-quests beforehand. After completing Boar Hunt!, ride a boar for five minutes to obtain All Aboared!

Continue to play through the game as normal without worrying about any other trophies, other than those that unlock as part of the story. Once you complete the game and view the credits, you will unlock Call Her Back. Save your game when prompted.

Step Two: New Game+

After beating the game for the first time, you will unlock New Game+, load your save to activate it. You will be placed near the beginning of part two and will retain everything from your previous playthrough. When prompted, read through, or simply skip through Kainé's dreams to unlock Educated Warrior.

Before continuing through the game, take some time to complete 'The Fisherman's Gambit' Quests to boost your fishing level and to put you closer to achieving Go-To-Guy, if you did not achieve it in your speed run. After completing the final fishing side-quest, you will be able to catch every fish. Some fish, such as the Rhizodont will be a tug-o-war contest, even with fishing skills maxed out. Refer to A Round by the Pond, for a list of fish, their locations and the bait required. If you are still missing Go-To-Guy, take some more time out to complete a few more quests until you achieve it.

You can now continue playing through part two as normal again. During this time, you should be unlocking the timed boss battle trophies, although, if you fail to meet the time limit on some you can try again on New Game ++. After you complete the game a second time and view the credits, you will earn Lingering Memories. Save your game when prompted.

Step Three: New Game++

Load your post-game save. As before, you will be placed near the beginning of part two and retain everything from your previous playthrough.

At the start of this playthrough you will be focusing on making money and obtaining White Moonflower. Save your game on a separate file and then sell every material in your inventory, this should rack up a few hundred thousand. To add to your current gold, you can sell White Moonflower for a high price. This will also earn you Legendary Gardener, see Obtaining White Moonflower for a detailed breakdown. You now need to take your Gold up to 1,000,000 by continuously growing and selling White Moonflower, or referring to the strategies shown in Man of Means. Reload your previous save afterwards.

Before you can even achieve Ending C or D, you must have obtained every weapon in the game. Weapons you missed during the story can be brought from Blacksmith's around the world, however the three Labyrinth's weapons can only be obtained through side-quests. See Weapon Guide for details of the quests and every other weapon.

The last thing to do before completing the game again is weapon upgrading. There are 44 unique materials required with the total quantity exceeding 700. I have detailed the materials, quantities and locations in a separate thread, which can be found here.

Continue to play through the game as normal. Once you get to the final save point, save your game. Do not save over this file, no matter what! After defeating the final boss again, a bonus fight will trigger, which will award you with The Strongest Bond, if you defeat it with the time limit. After the battle, you will be asked to choose between two options, pick the first option! After the ending and credits you will earn Thank You.

Reload your save. Make sure you have achieved every trophy apart from Something Very Special, The Final Verse and The Strongest Bond, if you missed it, as this path will erase all of your save data. Complete the final dungeon and defeat the bonus boss again. When you are given the two options again, pick option two. After the ending and credits, you will receive Something Very Special and The Final Verse.

Pull off a 50-hit combo.

See Combo Master.

10.jpg  The Magic Man (B) :tagstory: :tagglitched:

Learn every type of magic.

This trophy is part of the regular story progression and cannot be missed. You will acquire all types of magic, known as Sealed Verses in the first part of the game by defeating bosses. The final Sealed Verse you will obtain is Dark Whirlwind, after a cutscene the trophy will unlock.

11.jpg  Wordsmith (B) :tagglitched:

Collect 50 percent of all words.

Once you acquire Grimoire Weiss, you will have a small chance of obtaining words by defeating enemies that will improve certain attributes, such as strength and item drop rate. Your word percentage will carry over to New Game+

To view your current word percentage, view the word list under the Memo heading in Grimoire Weiss. You can access Grimoire Weiss by pressing :start: and then

You can also apply words you have collected to weapons and/or magic by accessing Word List Edit within Grimoire Weiss, selecting what magic ability or weapon you wish to add the word too and choosing upto three different words.

Glitched?

Some users have reported this trophy unlocking, despite have 50% or more total words obtained. Personally, the trophy unlocked for me at 50%, but not as soon as i hit 50%. If it fails to unlock for you once you get to 51%, load an older save and hope it pops this time.

13.jpg  Village Handyman (B)

Complete 10 quests.

See Go-To-Guy.

14.jpg  Jack of all Trades (B)

Complete 20 quests.

See Go-To-Guy.

16.jpg  Man of Means (B)

Accumulate 1,000,000 pieces of gold.

This trophy is not cumulative. You must hold all 1,000,000 Gold at once. It is best left until New Game++. In addition to the options listed below, first save your game on a separate save. Next, sell every raw material in your inventory, this should rack up a few hundred thousand. An extra thing to note is that if you have the DLC, you can obtain 50,000 Gold after completing the missions each time.

Thanks to CookieMcCrumble for the information and primalcarnage for the repetition confirmation.

White Moonflower: The most tedious and luck-filled way to earn a lot of gold. Doing so involves manipulating the PS3 clock several times. For full details on how to obtain the White Moonflower see Obtaining White Moonflower

Fishing: Once you have completed the quest, The Fisherman's Gambit - Part 7, you will be able to catch Royal Fish with relative ease, which can be sold for 4,000G. Royal Fish can be caught with Earthworms at the Eastern Road Lake, with each Earthworm costing 10G.

Junk Heap B2 Run: In the Junk Heap level B2, there is a room in the far northern area filled with crates. In each crate there is a chance to obtain Amber, Fluorite or Damascus Steel, raw materials that can be sold for 3K+. Using the elevator to reach another level will make the crates respawn, watch out for the holes!

17.jpg  Educated Warrior (B) :tagstory: :tagglitched:

Read the final novel segment.

After completing the game for the first time you will be prompted to save your game, do so and then load this save. This will activate New Game+ near the beginning of the second part of NIER. After a cutscene and inbetween a boss battle you will be treated to several of Kainé's dreams in the form of a novel. Read through, or simply skip through the segments and the trophy will unlock.

09.jpg  Combo Master (S)

Pull of a 100-hit combo.

Simply perform a combo containing at least 100 hits, there are several easy ways to get this trophy:

Prologue: During the prologue, you will fight against hundreds of shades in a small courtyard. Use :r2: to roll to cover up ground if there isn't an enemy close enough to you, although you should be able to achieve this without even trying.

A Tale of Study: Early on in the second part of the game you will be able to partake in a quest called 'A Tale of Study'. To activate the quest, talk to the butler at the mansion, who will tell you about a shade in the study. The shade in question will not attack you and will take several hundred sword strikes before falling, although it will teleport at times, so get in there quickly and hack away.

The Aerie: In the second part of the game, you will receive a mission to visit the chief of the Aerie. During the mission you will be attacked by an army of armoured shades. They take several physical attacks to be defeated, so this is also a good place to obtain the trophy.

NOTE: Magic attacks do not count for the trophy.

12.jpg  Weapons Collector (S)

Find every weapon.

There are 30 weapons to find in the game by purchasing them from merchants, finding them in the environment or completing a sidequest. If you do not obtain certain weapons from the Aerie before completing the mission in the Aerie in part 2, you will have to wait until a subsequent playthrough to obtain them.

15.jpg  Go-To-Guy (S)

Complete 30 quests.

After returning from the Lost Shrine you will be able to complete a handful of side-quests. After certain events in the story more side-quests will become available. There are a total of 70 side-quests in the game, although its recommended to obtain this trophy in part one because the quests are far shorter. Completed side-quests carry over to part two, with a few incomplete sidequests also carrying over, but the majority will only be available in part one. See Side-Quests and Side-Quests, Continued for a description of the thirty most time efficient quests in part one.

32.jpg  King of the Lost Shrine (S) :tagmissable:

Defeat Gretel within two and a half minutes.

Gretel is one of the guardians of the Lost Shrine, you will fight him near the beginning of part two. Skip all cutscenes, don't worry if you miss this trophy in your first playthrough, it will be much easier to obtain in New Game+

At the beginning of the battle, stand in the light to kill off the smaller shades, Gretel will impervious to damage during this phase. Afterwards, pound him with your strongest magic attacks, while evading his own. Once his health reaches a certain level a timer will appear on a part of his body, inflict enough damage on the area before time runs out and a cutscene will play. After the cutscene, Gretel will will start a frenzy spinning attack, block or evade and then counter with an attack of your own, rinse and repeat. After several counters a final timer will appear, inflict enough damage and a final cutscene will play. If you managed it within the time limit the trophy will unlock.

33.jpg  A True Friend (S) :tagmissable:

Defeat a berserking shade within one minute.

This battle occurs straight after defeating Gretel. Skip all cutscenes, don't worry if you miss this trophy in your first playthrough, it will be much easier to obtain in New Game+

This fight is pretty easy and easily obtainable in your first playthrough. Use your dark lance to knock your enemy off the wall, then get in close and deal some real damage with dark hand or your weapon. If you managed it within a minute the trophy will unlock.

34.jpg  Boss of the Junk Heap (S) :tagmissable:

Defeat P-33 within four and a half minutes.

P-33 is the boss you will face the second time you go to the Junk Heap in part two. Skip all cutscenes, don't worry if you miss this trophy in your first playthrough, it will be much easier to obtain in New Game+

Unleash your most power magic at the beginning of the battle. Once most of his health has been diminished, he will fly beyond your reach. During the next 20 seconds you will be bombarded with falling debris, run or jump around to evade the debris. Once the debris stops falling, P-33 will fly back down. Use dark lance to knock him down for good, which will knock the shade on his head onto the floor, which will then split into several shades. Defeat all the shades and the battle is over, if you managed it with the time limit the trophy will unlock.

35.jpg  Scourge of the Aerie (S) :tagmissable:

Defeat Wendy within eight and a half minutes.

This battle occurs when you return to the Aerie in the second part of the game. Skip all cutscenes, don't worry if you miss this trophy in your first playthrough, it will be much easier to obtain in New Game+

Use your dark lance to damage the eye when its not shielded. Occasionally shades will be summoned, you don't need to kill them, but they may get in the way otherwise. Once the health bar has been depleted enough, you will be treated with an energy beam. Quickly run to the highest bridge and attack the eye again from behind. After enough hits Wendy will be hovering on the platform by the Aerie entrance, make your way down there and attack the eye again until Wendy is defeated. If you managed it within the time limit, the trophy will unlock.

36.jpg  Protector of Facade (S) :tagmissable:

Defeat Roc within three and a half minutes.

This battle occurs as part of a Facade story mission in the second part of the game. Skip all cutscenes, don't worry if you miss this trophy in your first playthrough, it will be much easier to obtain in New Game+

Before you can attack Roc, you will have to fight a large pack of wolves, use dark hand to take them out efficiently. Roc follows a similar pattern, first he jumps off the rocks towards you, then he'll run around for a short while before jumping back on the rocks again. Evade the jump by jumping away yourself, shoot your dark lance while he is running around and pummel him with dark hand if he gets close. Repeat the process a few times and he will be defeated, if you managed it within the time limit, the trophy will unlock.

37.jpg  Permission Granted (S) :tagmissable:

Defeat the betrayers within two and a half minutes.

This is the first battle in the Shadowlord's castle, you can probably guess who it is, but i wont spoil it. Skip all cutscenes, don't worry if you miss this trophy in your first playthrough, it will be much easier to obtain in New Game+

Hit either of the two targets with Dark Hand and slash with your sword before they can teleport away for extra damage, repeat a few times and a cutscene will play. After the cutscene they can use all of your powers. Repeat the same process as before while blocking their magical attacks. Once their health is almost completely depleted, they will teleport to the center of the room and you will be treated to another cutscene. If you managed it within the time limit, the trophy will unlock.

38.jpg  A Dirge for the Hero (S) :tagmissable:

Defeat Goose within two minutes.

Goose is the regenerating armoured boar you face midway through the Shadowlord's castle. Skip all cutscenes, don't worry if you miss this trophy in your first playthrough, it will be much easier to obtain in New Game+

Press :cross: or :l2: to land on your feet when he charges. The majority of the time when he charges he will bash into a wall and be immobile on the floor for a few seconds, use this opportunity to attack with dark hand. To minimise the damage taken from Goose, circle around him, the only damage you will take is from his 90° jumps. Once he is defeated the trophy will unlock.

40.jpg  Soul Crusher (S) :tagmissable:

Defeat the betrayers within three and a half minutes.

This battle occurs shortly after escaping from Goose. As usual, skip all cutscenes. You will only be fighting against one this time, while the other will summon magic to protect the main attacker.

Use your favourite weapon or Dark Hand to inflict damage. Just like your previous battle with them, after being hit they will teleport away. Swing your sword and attempt to get an extra 1-2 hits beforehand. Repeat this strategy until she is defeated and a cutscene will play. After the cutscene, you will be fighting the other. She will have minimal health, but will unleash a continual barrage of magic. A couple of hits with your magic or sword will end the battle and unlock the trophy.

41.jpg  Book Burner (S) :tagmissable:

Destroy the world-saving tome within one and a half minutes.

This battle occurs shortly after Soul Crusher and is easily the biggest joke of the timed trophies. Skip all cutscenes, don't worry if you somehow miss the trophy in your first playthrough, it will be much easier in New Game+

Hit the book with fully charged Dark Hand or Dark Lance, after a few hits the book will be defeated and the trophy will unlock.

42.jpg  The Once and Final King (S) :tagmissable:

Defeat the Shade inside you within three and a half minutes.

This is the final battle of the game if you're going for Ending A or B. Skip all cutscenes, don't worry if you miss the trophy in your first playthrough, it will be much easier in New Game+

Hit the boss with Dark Hand, or Dark Lance if not in range. He'll jump out from under the ground at time, so always be on your guard. Once his health reaches half he'll start flying, hit him with several Dark Lance's.

For his final attack, he will be at the back of the room and unleash a barrage of magic, evade and hit him with your sword. Afterwards, you'll be teleported to the other end of the room, repeat the process two more times. Please note, you will be unable to use magic for the final stage of the battle. A cutscene will play and the trophy will unlock.

43.jpg  The Strongest Bond (S) :tagmissable:

Defeat someone you care for within three and half minutes.

This battle occurs at the end of your third playthrough. You will need all 30 weapons to trigger it, skip all cutscenes. Hit the enemy with two magical attacks and she will collapse to the ground, a barrier and two magical points will appear. There is no way to destroy the barrier or magical points and a 20 second unblockable barrage of magic will be inflicted on you. Run around to avoid getting hit or stand on the bed in the far end of the room. After it stops run up to your enemy and slash her with your sword until a cutscene plays, after which the trophy will unlock.

Important Note: If you didn't obtain the trophy don't choose option 2 after the battle, you'll have to start the game from the very beginning again!

22.jpg  Fish of Legend (B)

You caught a rhizodont.

Do not even attempt to catch this fish before completing all the Fisherman's Gambit Quests, you will be able to see it beforehand, but it will escape very quickly!

Rhizodont's can be caught in the desert by the fast travel boat with Sardine. You can catch Sardine at the Seafront or buy them there for 250G. While fishing with the Sardine there are three different types of things you will catch, defined by how your fishing pole dips.

Option 1: Rusty Bucket, Empty Can or Rusted Clump. If your pole dips twice you will catch some junk, Rusty Buckets & Clumps are needed to achieve Forging Master.

Option 2: Hyneria. If your pole dips three times, you will catch the rare fish you caught on the final fishing quest.

Option 3: Rhizodont. If you pole dips twice and then twice again after a short pause, you'll be catching the Legendary fish, expect a tug-o-war to catch the fish.

The Rhizodont shows up once in every 10 attempts. After you catch it the trophy will unlock.

24.jpg  Material Hunter (B)

You collected 50 types of raw materials.

This trophy should come naturally over the course of the game. Raw Materials can be obtained from gathering spots, merchants, fishing, side-quests and enemies. Equipping words from the ‘mah’ group will increase the chance of obtaining raw materials from enemies. See Wordsmith for instructions on equipping words.

You can view the number of Raw Materials you currently hold by viewing Grimoire Weiss and going to Items > Raw Materials.

26.jpg  Upgrade Apprentice (B)

You upgraded 5 weapons to their maximum level.

See Forging Master.

28.jpg  Reform Specialist (B)

You upgraded 15 weapons to their maximum level.

See Forging Master.

29.jpg  All Aboared! (B)

You rode a boar for at least 5 minutes.

To ride a Boar you must first complete the side-quest called Boar Hunt! To activate the quest, talk to the old man sitting on a bench next to the item merchant in your village. He will tell you about a Boar that has been rampaging around the Northern Plains and will ask you to kill it.

The boar is located in the Northern Plains, near the entrance to the Aerie. Attack the Boar and hide behind one of the big rocks, the boar will charge, smash into the rock and collapse for a few seconds. Use this opportunity to attack, rinse and repeat until the Boar is defeated. Take the Boar's Tusk back to the old man and you will gain the ability to ride Boar's.

Afterwards, when you see a Boar lying in the Plains, press :circle: to mount upon it and ride around for five minutes. You can also choose not move at all to earn the trophy, but make sure you are in a secure area first! Shades will stop at nothing to knock you off.

30.jpg  The Sheep Whisperer (B) :tagmissable:

You Killed 100 sheep.

This trophy must be earned in part one, unless you have the DLC as Sheep disappear in part two. When you are asked to gather Vapor Moss part one is almost over, do not pick it up if you have not obtained the trophy yet!

You can find Sheep in Northern Plains, just outside the Village. The very first quest you are given requires you to obtain Mutton from the Sheep in the Plains. You could kill all the Sheep and then exit and re-enter until you have the trophy, although it's not necessary. Many missions require you to travel through the Plains, kill all the Sheep in the area every time you pass through and the trophy will be yours a long time before part one ends.

If you have the DLC, you can find Sheep in part two.

18.jpg  Call Her Back (S)

You viewed the first ending (Ending A).

After completing the game for the first time you will be presented with Ending A. Once the cutscene has ended you will be prompted to enter the name you called your character, not Dad as some assume, it's also case sensitive. After the unskippable credits the trophy will unlock.

19.jpg  Lingering Memories (S)

You viewed the second ending (Ending B).

Once you complete the game for the first time you will be given the option to save your game after viewing the credits. Do so, and then load your save. You will be placed back into the second half of the game, slightly before going to The Lost Shrine. Everything from your previous playthrough will carry over to this one. Continue to play through the rest of the game again, once you complete it you will view Ending B. The trophy will unlock after the unskippable credits.

23.jpg  A Round by the Pond (S)

You caught one of every type of fish.

Before even attempting this trophy, make sure to complete all the Fisherman's Gambit side-quests, or else some fish will be impossible to catch. The bait required for fishing can be brought at Seafront.

Fishing in NIER can be very confusing at first. Before even attempting to catch any fish, you will need to acquire a fishing rod from the Fisherman in Seafront, however this cannot be done until a certain part of the story.

After you have obtained the fishing rod, go to certain lakes, ponds or sea and press :circle: to fling your rod. Your rod will dip slightly, usually only a couple of times before a final big dip, this is the time to reel it in by pressing :cross:. The health of the fish will appear as a bar near the bottom of the screen, the fish cannot be caught until the bar has been completely depleted. To decrease its health move :ls: in the opposite direction that the fish is swimming. If it's too hard to tell, move :ls: in the same direction that your character is facing. If the Health bar is yellow and not decreasing, adjust the positioning slightly.

Note: There are two beach-like areas in Seafront, Small Beach refers to the one near the Fisherman, whereas Large Beach refers to the one near the Lighthouse.

Note 2: Catching a Shaman Fish is part of a story mission. If when attempting to catch the fish the two days later screen appears, you will have to catch it again.

You completed the game within fifteen hours.

This trophy can be deceiving at the first glance, despite being an RPG, NIER is very short. Even if this is the first time you've played an RPG, you'll be able to complete it well within the limit. If you do the following throughout your speedrun, you'll complete the story in 5-7 hours, leaving time to achieve the quest trophies:

  • Start on easy difficulty.
  • Skip cutscenes.
  • Always head towards the red X marker.
  • When climbing a ladder, hold :cross: to climb faster.
  • Don't fight unnecessary battles.
  • Jump down to a lower location instead of using ladders, only if the drop is small.
  • Buy the maximum amount of Medicinal Herbs early on, it'll last you for a long time.

You can view your current played time in the Memo tab within Grimoire Weiss and choosing status. On another note, nothing stops the clock, not even even pausing.

31.jpg  Forging Master (S)

You upgraded 30 weapons to their maximum level.

The hardest trophy in the game(read: time consuming), NIER supports custom soundtracks, so take advantage of it while grinding! Also equip words from the 'mah' family to your main weapon and magic to increase drop rates from enemies, see Wordsmith for details. Playing on hard also increases the drop rates, although the difference is minimal.

Each weapon can be upgraded up to Level 4 at the Two Brother's Weaponry, located near the Junk Heap. Each upgrade costs 1000 Gold, bar two story related upgrades, in addition to any raw materials required. The grinding process will take your patience to its limits, due to the sheer amount of rare items required. Its easily comparable to Final Fantasy 13's 'Treasure Hunter' trophy, apart from the fact that you get a mere silver for all your hard work. You're in for a long ride, but never give up! See Weapon Upgrading Guide for a list of the amounts of materials required and how to obtain them.

A productive way to earn some of the items would be to play through the three door DLC over and over. Thanks to CookieMcCrumble for the information, which can be found in detail in the first post of the Weapon Upgrading Guide.

20.jpg  Thank You (G)

You viewed the third ending (Ending C).

Once you complete the game for the second time you will be given the option to save your game after viewing the credits. Do so, and then load your save. You will be placed back into the second half of the game, slightly before going to The Lost Shrine. Before entering the Shadowlord's Castle save your game and make sure you have obtained all 30 weapons, this will trigger an additional battle after the final boss fight. After completing the additional battle, you will be given two options to choose from, pick the first option. After a cutscene and the unskippable credits the trophy will unlock.

27.jpg  Something Very Special (G) :tagmissable:

You viewed the fourth ending (Ending D).

After unlocking Thank You, reload the save you made before entering the Shadowlord's Castle. Before attempting this trophy, make sure you've earned every other trophy because your save data will be erased.

Make your way through the Shadowlord's castle and complete the additional boss fight again. After the fight, you will once again be given two options, pick the second option. After selecting the second option all your save data will be erased, you have been double warned!

After a cutscene and unskippable credits this trophy and the Platinum will unlock.

01.jpg  The Final Verse (P)

Congratulations! Thanks for playing!

Simply earn all other trophies, congratulations!

Obtaining White Moonflower

This trophy is a quite tedious and luck-filled process. Manipulating the PS3 clock is required to make the process much quicker, otherwise it would take weeks to complete as the plants grow in real time. Please note, before you attempt this trophy you need to do one of the following:

  • Complete the 'Shopping List' Quest. Completing the quest 'A Return To Shopping' is not mandatory, but it does increase the size of the field.
  • Purchase the Cultivation Manual from the Florist in part two.

First, go to the Grocer in Seafront and purchase 9 Red Moonflower Seeds, 6 Gold Moonflower Seeds & 6 Blue Moonflower Seeds. Return to the Garden next to your house to plant the seeds, the order below isn't mandatory its just the order I used.

Obtained less seeds?

Obtaining less seeds than would be required to complete the field with an alternative seed (6-9) doesn't necessarily mean that you need to repeat the previous step again. You can take the risk and plant the seeds required for the next stage and save on a separate save file. When you run out of the seed that you are low on, you can either stop there or plant the alternate seed on the remaining patches. I managed to obtain white moonflower with only three pink seeds!

There are six different stages of cultivation, these are:

Fertilisation:

An optional stage that must be completed before planting the seeds to boost one aspect of growth. There are three different fertilisers available, these are:

  • Bounty Fertiliser - Increases final yield by 50% - Purchased from Seafront or Facade.
  • Flowering Fertiliser - Doubles the flowering and harvesting period - Purchased from Facade.
  • Speed Fertiliser - Halves the time need to grow - Purchased from Seafront.

Planting:

Your seeds have just been planted. You can choose to water the seeds, which will increase the final yield by 20%

Growing:

The crop has entered the growing stage. This stage can last anywhere between 1 & 8 hours.

Flowering:

The crop has began to flower and can now be picked up if you just want the actual flower. This stage can take up to 50 hours.

Harvesting:

The flowers appear wilted, but can be harvested for their seeds. This stage can take up to 50 hours.

Withering:

You left it too late, the crop can now only be discarded. What were you thinking?!

How To Manipulate The PS3 Clock

1) Save at the mailbox just outside your house and quit to the XMB.

2) Go to the settings menu and select Date & Time Settings.

3) Select Manual and adjust the time according to this guide.

Side-Quests

Below, i have described 30 quests that can be completed with relative ease during your speed run, this will earn you the Village Handyman, Jack of all Trades and Go-To-Guy trophies. Apart from The Fisherman's Gambit 1-5 and Boar Hunt, the quests must be completed in part one. Once you get a quest sending you to a Mansion, part one is nearing an end.

Book Smarts

This quest becomes available after returning from the Lost Shrine. It is given by a girl on the second floor of the Library, who needs help putting books back in the proper spots. The first book must be placed in the second shelf from the left on the east side of the second floor. The second book must be placed in the third self from the right on the south side of the first floor.

The Lost Eggs

This quest becomes available after returning from the Lost Shrine, and is given by the item merchant in the Village Market. He will tell you that the chickens have found new hiding spots for their eggs and wants you to find one. Around the Village you will find glowing spots, these are gathering points. Press :circle: to dig up the item at the gathering point, occasionally you will find a chicken egg, bring it back to the item merchant.

Boar Hunt

This quest becomes available after returning from the Lost Shrine, and is given to you by a man sitting on a bench near the item merchant. He will tell you about a rampaging Boar roaming the Northern Plains and ask you to bring back its tusk as proof of the kill.

The Boar is located in the Northern Plains near the entrance to the Aerie. Attack the Boar and hide behind one of the big rocks, the Boar will charge, smash into the rock and collapse for a few seconds. Use this opportunity to attack, rinse and repeat until the Boar is defeated and the tusk will automatically be added to your inventory. You do not have to kill the Boar yourself either, if a shade or one of your companions kill it, the tusk will still be automatically added to your inventory. Report back to the old man for your reward, this quest can also be completed in part two.

Shopping List

This quest becomes available after returning from the Lost Shrine, and is given by a woman sitting on a bench near the market fountain. She will request three Tulip Bulbs, which can only be brought from Seafront. Go through the gate at the far end of the market and you'll find yourself in the Southern Plains, head straight on and you'll eventually find yourself at the Seafront. Go to the Grocer and choose to buy three Tulip Bulbs, it would also be wise to purchase three bounty fertilisers from the item merchant for her next quest. Take the bulbs back to the woman to complete the quest.

A Return To Shopping

This quest can be attempted straight after completing Shopping List, she will ask you to buy three bounty fertilisers this time. If you were paying attention, you should already have them in your inventory. If not, then it's back to Seafront for you, talk to the woman again to complete the quest.

The Gatekeeper's Errand

This quest becomes available after returning from the Lost Shrine, and is given by the guard on the right side of the Village Northern Gate. He will ask you to deliver a message to the Blacksmith's wife, obviously he cant do it himself. You will find the wife at the far end of the market, talk to her to complete the quest.

Old-Fashioned Home Cooking

This quest becomes available after returning from the Lost Shrine, and is given by a woman sitting on a bench to the right of the market fountain. She needs ten pieces of mutton for her hungry kids, go to the Northern Plains and kill all the sheep, collecting their mutton as you go. Return to the woman once you have ten to complete the quest. This quest is also repeatable and will reward you with more gold than from merchants, take advantage of this every time you have at least ten pieces of mutton in your inventory.

Fragile Delivery

This quest becomes available after returning from The Lost Shrine, and is giving by the guard on the right side of the Village Northern Gate. The guard has a parcel that he wants you to deliver to the Aerie Chief, but it's a very fragile package.

I would recommend not attempting this quest until after returning from the Aerie or there will be a lot of shades there. If you roll or are hit by an enemy the parcel will break and you will need to return to the guard to receive a new one. Avoid all the shades in the Northern Plains and give the parcel to the Aerie Chief, you should know the exact location as you've just returned from there. Return to the guard for your reward.

Herbal Remedies

This quest is given by Popola at the Library after a briefing. She needs two Medicinal Herbs, you should already have these on you. If not, dig them up around the village, buy them from the market or kill some shades in the Northern Plains until they drop them.

The Tavern Keepers Grandmother

This quest becomes available after returning from the Lost Shrine and is given by the Village Tavern Keeper. She needs to make an elixir for her Grandmother, but lacks the ingredients. Medicinal Herbs can be found at gathering points, brought or dropped by enemies. Royal Fern can be brought at Seafront or at gathering points in Southern Plains. Berries can also be found at gathering points in Southern Plains. Return with three of each and she will mix up an elixir. To complete the quest, take the elixir to the Grandmother, who is sat on a bench in the middle of the village.

Fragile Delivery 2

This quest becomes available after returning from Seafront as part of the story. It is given by a man sitting on a bench in front of the market fountain, who wants you to deliver a fragile tray to the Seafront Tavern. This is much easier than the first as there are no enemies, apart from a large shade that randomly spawns. The tavern is the very last building before reaching the front beach.

A Signature Dish

This quest becomes available after completing 'Fragile Delivery 2'. It is given by the Seafront Tavern Keeper, who wants you to gather ingredients for a dish. Medicinal Herbs can be brought, dropped from enemies or found at gathering points. Sardines can be caught at the beach with Lugworms or brought. Wheat can be brought from the Village Grocer or harvested. Return with ten of each item to complete the quest.

A Dog Astray

This quest becomes available after returning from Seafront as part of the story. It is given by an old man at the far end of the market, who has lost his dog. You will find the unfortunate hound at Northern Plains, by the bridge leading to the Junk Heap. Before you can examine the dog, you will be attacked by a bunch of shades. Kill the shades, examine the dog and then report back to his owner.

Yonah's Home Cooking

This quest becomes available after giving her a shaman fish as part of the story. She wants to prepare a meal for you, but first needs some Venison and Wheat. Venison can be obtained from Deer in Southern Plains and Wheat can be brought from the Village Grocer or harvested. Return to Yonah with the ingredients and try not to puke.

The Fisherman's Gambit

This quest becomes available after accepting A Signature Dish from the Fisherman at the beach. He will teach you more about fishing if you can catch ten Sardines for him. Sardines can be caught in the sea near the Fisherman with Lugworms. See A Round by the Pond for instructions on fishing.

This quest becomes available after completing The Fisherman's Gambit from the Fisherman at the beach. He will teach you more about fishing if you can catch seven Blowfish for him. Rainbow Trout can be caught with Lure by the Junk Heap Bridge in the Northern Plains. See A Round by the Pond for instructions on fishing.

The Fisherman's Gambit, Part 4

This quest becomes available after completing The Fisherman's Gambit, Part 3 from the Fisherman at the beach. He will teach you more about fishing if you can catch five Bream for him. Bream can be caught with Lure in the sea near the Fisherman. See A Round by the Pond for instructions on fishing.

The Fisherman's Gambit, Part 5

This quest becomes available after completing The Fisherman's Gambit, Part 4 from the Fisherman at the beach. He will teach you more about fishing if you can catch five Black Bass for him. Black Bass can be caught with Lure at the Village Lake. See A Round by the Pond for instructions on fishing.

The New Merchant in Town

This quest becomes available after returning from Seafront as part of the story and is given by the merchant on a boat in Seafront. The man needs ten pieces of wool, ten goat hides and five natural rubbers. Wool is an uncommon find from sheep, as are goat hides from goats. Natural rubber can be found at gathering spots or purchased at Seafront. Return to the man with all of the items to complete the quest.

Side-Quests, Continued

On The Wings of Eagles

This quest becomes available after completing The Tavern Keeper's Grandmother. She needs a Eagle Egg from a place where the wind blows for another medicine. This obviously refers to the Aerie, head there now. On the catwalk below the chief's house there is a gathering point, examine the gathering point to receive a Eagle Egg. Take the egg back to the woman and then give the medicine to her Grandmother again.

The Ballad of the Twins

This quest becomes available after talking to Popola about upgrading your weapon as part of the story. It's given by a man in the Village Tavern, who wants to see both Popola and Devola sing together. Firstly, talk to Devola in the Tavern, then talk to Popola in the Library, who will tell you she needs a special drink from the Seafront Tavern first. Go to the Seafront Tavern and you will be asked to obtain five lizard tails and five mouse tails, what kind of drink is this? Anyway, mouse tails can be found near the Junk Heap entrance and lizard tails can be found near the Junk Heap Bridge and Eastern Road. Take the ingredients back to the Tavern Keeper, who will then mix the drink, finally take the drink to Popola.

The Postman's Request

This quest becomes available after talking to Popola about upgrading your weapon as part of the story. It's given by the postman at the Seafront Post Office, who will ask you to deliver a letter. Take the letter to the old lady in the Lighthouse, that is all, quest over.

Yonah's Gift

This quest becomes available after returning from Facade. Yonah wants some gifts, a Melon, Watermelon and Pumpkin. Melons can be brought from the Seafront Grocer or harvested. This quest becomes available after returning from Facade. It's given by a man near fountain square at Seafront, who wants you to deliver a letter to his lover in the Aerie. The lover's house is to the left of the chief's, however nobody is home. You have no choice but to return to the man, but as you near the Aerie entrance, you will be attacked by a large shade. Kill the shade and it will drop a flower, presumably belonging to the mans lover. Take the flower back to the man to complete the quest.

Closure

This quest becomes available after returning from Facade. It's given by the postman in the Seafront Post Office, apparently he has some to tell you. Just talk to him, that is it, another short quest over.

Fragile Delivery 3

This quest becomes available after returning from Facade. It's given by the guard at the eastern gate at the Village, who wants you to deliver a fragile package to the Facade Blacksmith. You wont face any hostile enemies on the eastern road, however scorpions will jump up from under the sand in the Desert. Luckily, the location of Scorpions are marked on the HUD map. Once you get to Facade, talk to the raft man and choose Weapons to get there quickly.

Item Unknown

This quest becomes available after returning from Facade and is given by a woman outside the King's Mansion. The rules state that she cant state of the item she needs, so you will be looking for ten round, striped-food objects. This obviously refers to Watermelons, you can buy them from the Grocer or harvest them.

Apology From A Fool

This quest becomes available after returning from Facade. It's given by the Strange-Things Shopkeeper, who has obviously pissed off his wife as he wants you to collect wolf hides as a gift for her. Wolves can be found roaming around the desert, kill them and take their hides. Once you have ten, return to the shopkeeper.

The Lighthouse Lady's Wrath

This quest becomes available after returning from Facade and is given by the Seafront Postman. Go to the Seafront Post Office and you will walk in on an argument between the postman and the lighthouse lady. She will return to the Lighthouse, so go there and you will find out that she has the black scrawl. Return to the postman and he will tell you to come back later, something is amiss here. Return to the postman and after a conversation, you will allowed access to the back room. Move all the boxes so that you can access another room and examine the shiny object to receive a parcel. Speak to the postman again, then return to the lighthouse and speak to the old lady twice to complete the quest.

Yeah, don't think there's room for two NIER trophy guides.

You could always look up the Japanese equivalents to everything and turn this into a NieR Replicant guide. I basically had to make my own Trophy Guide just for my own personal use to Plat that (stupidly I deleted it instead of submitting it here)

You're right about that ;)

The rule is that a guide can be replaced if enough improvements are made. If when my guide is 100% complete its not deemed better, then fair enough :)

You're right but no more than one guide is aspost to be open. So we avoid confusion among the members which guide is to be used.

Good luck.

Aye.

Does anyone here have the DLC? i've heard that eagle eggs and rusted clumps can be found easier, but i dont know how, where or if its even true, as i dont own the DLC, i cant verify it myself.

One final thing, does anybody have any idea what the NIER title font is?

Some clarification would be appreciated :)

I spent a little bit of time trying to find out what the font is out of curiosity, but to no avail. Maybe my Googling skills lack or something but it seems it's either a custom design or a uniquely obscure font.

  • 4 weeks later...

Why do the speed run in play through 1? What is the thought process here?

Can I do a speed run in NG+ or beyond since those games it sounds like start at the beginning of 'part 2'?

I'm just asking - I kinda wanted to enjoy the game, then blaze through it once I was totally beefed up and familiar with it. Let me know why I shouldn't do this. Thanks.

Another question: What is carried over on NG+?

Why do the speed run in play through 1? What is the thought process here?

..because it minimises the number of total playthrough required

While i dont know for sure, i dont think its possible. Since the time taken carries over to NG+

Almost everything, the only thing that wont carry over is incomplete quests other than the fisherman's gambit and boar hunt

Wow, thanks for your quick responses.

I hope I didn't screw myself over. The first four hours I took my time and was just after the part where you tell the boys of their mother.

Now after reading up why its beneficial to do the speed run in play through 1:

I'm currently done with the Facade Temple and I'm around 14 side quests completed with a play time of 6:30.

I hope I have enough time to be under 15 hours while also completing 30 side quests. What do you think?

How many hours should 'Part 2' take me?

How many 'Parts' are there?

Also on a totally separate note I found a side quest that is much much quicker then one of the 'Top 30 you listed'

The one you list 'The New Merchant in Town' Could take a very long time as I've killed 100 Sheep and I don't think I've ever received Wool.

I was surprised you didn't include 'The Littlest Hero' that opens up shortly after the Facade and requires you get the compass from one of the Palace Guards and follow the Blacksmiths son into the western part of the sandstorm portion of the desert and kill 20 wolves. I managed to do this in about 10 minutes.
