AUSPUFF
I noticed quite a few threads about problems with Corner Mastering so I thought I'd share with you some tips. First thing I recommend that you do is set up your "Options" properly. HOME > Options > Gameplay > Driving AI Difficulty < Normal > - Your Choice of Preference as it does not affect in any way Corner Mastering technique's. Handling Model < Normal > - This is most important because it allows you to turn On or Off all of the various settings on the fly Mid-Race! Steering Assist < Low > - This is recommended for some of the long sweeping corners. Have it on Off or switch it Off [only possible if Handling Model is set to Normal] for the tricky corners that have multiple transitions within the corner segment. Braking Assist < Low > - This is recommended for some of the tricky corners that have multiple transitions within the corner segment. Anti-Lock Brakes < On > - I recommend having this On at all times. It is now legal to have ABS in the majority of modern day big racing events. Traction Control < Low > - I recommend keeping this on Low at all times. It will prevent you from spinning out in tight corners. You will hear the tires chirping sometimes and it is normal. Hearing them chirp means the TC is working and it will not affect you from getting the Corner Mastered. Stability Control < On > - I recommend keeping this On in the beginning. You will find it useful in 95% of the corners, except in few tricky ones that require you to carry more speed through them in order to pass. This will help prevent a spin out while transitioning , direction changes and weight transfer mid-corner - it will slow you down. Damage Effects < Visual Only > - I recommend keeping it on Visual Only. You do not want a damaged control arm or engine while going for this perfectionist achievement. Damage that will affect your car's handling if you crash will cause you to have to restart. Gears < Automatic > - Your Choice of Preference, but I would leave it on Automatic, a bit easier if you keep Braking Assist on with this. Also it's 1 less thing to worry about while trying out for your Corner Master. NOTE: The above recommendations are NOT meant to disrespect or underestimate your driving skills at all. They are merely a recommendation in order to ease the pain in mastering some of the very tricky sections in the game's tracks. You will be faster without Driving Aids, but is not needed for the task at hand. You do not need to use any Driving Aids if you do not want to while enjoying the Career Mode of this awesome Sim-Racer! As I'm sure you have all seen most of the "Loading" screen messages... It can be a slight bit misleading. Better wording... it can be misinterpreted. Lets Try and digest that now , shall we... Corner Mastering Mastering a corner requires four things - stay on the race line, avoid contact, speed through the corner and avoid sliding out the back end. Grey Dash - You haven't mastered this corner yet. Yellow Exclamation - You're being evaluated. White Checkmark - You've mastered this corner. OK, stay on the race line... not really a problem , you don't need to be glued to the race line. You have allot of leeway there. Even if you play with it turned off... there is a saying in the road racing scene - "There is NO wrong race line" everything depends on your type of car, speed you carry entering, through, and your intentions for the exit of the corner. I noticed the game does NOT adjust the colors of the race line or direction no matter what you are driving. So use it as a general guidance point and try to be extra careful only in the corners APEX... they seem to have placed the checkmarks on the mini-map in the exact location where you need to be perfect. You could mess up the exit a bit , just don't get off track. Avoid contact.. that's a given. Speed through the corner ...OK look below. The trick seems to be 2 things - 1.Each corner has a minimum entry speed requirement. 2.Each corner has a minimum speed requirement on the speed you carry throughout the corner. Avoid sliding out the back end... well .. don't DRIFT! Drifting looks cool but is NOT the fastest way around a road race track. You can slide slightly, you can hear the tires chirping and screeching.. that is OK.. means you're on the edge. Its wrong to do in real race [tire wear] but it works here. What you must NOT do is get the message up top in red letters "Corner Slide"... if you get that.. you failed to master the corner. 1.Hitting the Apex smooth and as close as possible is key. 2.Smooth transitions/weight transfers in the proper places for the multi turn sections. 3.Power out of the corner without loosing it. I have one more tip for the apex... another road race teaching - "If you have to lift twice, then you're doing it wrong" Basically ... each turn should be a 1,2,3 deal. Brake, turn then power out... make sure that you put your foot down only when you know that there will be no more need to slow down. Once you are on the power, stay on the power ..no lifting. It will save you even in some dangerous situations. Just few tips on this one...Disqualification There are rules in racing. Failure to adhere to these rules will result in disqualification. Cutting Corners - Do it too many times and you'll be ejected from the race. Your lap time will not count if you cut a corner. Driving Backwards - Driving the wrong way during a race is considered reckless and dangerous. You will be warned to turn around or you will be disqualified. I actually like this ! Less people online will be messing around instead of racing ! They still will try to run you off the road but at least if they fail, will not start driving backwars to mess up the whole game... anyway look below for a tip. Well the designers did try to make it real hehe... why I brought this up is just to let you know, that if there is a corner you are having trouble with, you could back track without any problem, If there is sand/gravel trap or grass near by. You can drive on those surfaces without getting the "Disqualification Countdown". Countdown only appears when you are on tarmac. Now last but not least .. few cars that I found easy to drive when Corner Mastering... or should I say.. at least I kind of favored them. Ford Escort RS Cosworth - AWD - full I,II and Race Parts upgrades -> i used this at first:] Ford Focus ST - FWD - full I&II + weight removed -> very good and tight handling for a slow car... i used this car on allot of tricky corners. Nissan Silvia S15 - RWD - full I&II + race parts and weight. -> my drift car, but i drove it for corner mastering allot , has quick weight shifting. Got the 1st corner at Spa with it from the starting line... no extra lap or backing up. Audi S4 [Not RS4] - AWD - stock performance, Stage I suspension, tires & brakes Race Widebody 2... -> got Karussell with it ... You have to turn OFF the stability control only for this. Audi R8 and Porsche Carrera GT - MR -> awesome handling fast cars ...very easy to drive. Those will almost guarantee you a "Corner Mastered". Also the Koenigsegg CCX - MR -> ... got me 1st corner Brands Hatch at blistering speed ... A big favorite of mine... I'll take the CCX over the Zonda any day! Well .. I know it's not really a step-by-step guide but...had few tips that i hope will help you get all those corners done.. or just improve your skill. Take care & Good luck. NOTE: reply-post moved up Thanks alot for the possitive replies. I do realize that it is not a real guide, per say, but merely trying to explain in more plain words what is involved with this in-game achievement. I enjoyed writhing it and playing the new sim-style NFS game. Beeing a die hard car fanatic which has the pleasure of having some road race experiense, i tried to convey the information in a pleasant read. Although it does require some sort of play skill, I can assure you 100% it is possible to attain ALL corners mastered with FULL Driving Aids On. Tip for Nurburgring Nordschleife - Karussell Here is 1 of far from many games, to feature this awesome track and it's famous Karussell. Try the S4 [not RS4] completely stock performance stage I - handling, braking and tires race - widebody II Full Driving aids except Stability Control [it slows you down too much] Approach corner in 8k rpm in 3rd gear... don't let it shift in 4th if using automatic. When you see "red" line brake just enough so the automatic downshifts to 2nd, then immeadiately let go of the brakes and throttle. Goal is to keep speed of 40 mph + in the slowest section of the apex. Turn in sharp , just enough so your 2 left wheels are in the white striped gutter area. Power out as soon as you can and try and keep the 2 left wheel in the white zone untill road starts to straighten out. On the exit there is a "slight right - opens" [Rally lingo] and the race line shows you to transition... Ignore IT !!! You may kiss the curb with the right tires and still pass. Th3N1ck
Well Done, I just picked the game up today and I thought I would be a very aggressive driver. But it's much more satisfying being a precise and technical driver. Again, nice run-through on cornering.

stawnkald
Epic Karussell advice You are a total sanity saver dude, I finally mastered the Karussell corner after days (weeks?) of trying. Once I followed your exact advice I got it the very first try and got my platinum. I was seriously thinking the game was bugged or something and that corner was impossible, but...yay! Svaltvinter
That helped me a lot, thanks man, I hate master corners xD hahahahaha but I need the epic badge. One question, all the cars you mentioned which one is the better to master a lot and a lot of corners?

One question, all the cars you mentioned which one is the better to master a lot and a lot of corners? The cars that I listed are merely examples of what I enjoyed using the most. And I found them easy [for me] to control. Some people favor the Zonda... I'll take the Koenigsegg any day of the week over it... Sorry I can not say more... I bet you could get a "corner mastered" with any car after you get some experience and learning the track.
OrangeUaVol2
Does anyone know the minimum speeds for each corner that needs to be mastered?
AUSPUFF
Does anyone know the minimum speeds for each corner that needs to be mastered? I strongly believe that they are different to each and every car. The faster the car, the higher the speed it can carry through the corner. Therefore, it wouldn't be fair if they had a low speed requirement, because you could simply grab the fastest car and cruise through. This is more about maintaining control and precision more than speed.

thomdibble
good thread, useful tips. also easy way to get master corner badges is to just do them in quick race, set opponents to 0, up the laps to 5 and you should nail all the corners in two or three laps no problems. also a good way of grinding out for level 50 driver badger
Aruberikku
I finally mastered the famous Karussell ring-corner after following the guidelines in this guide. So thanks a lot I didn't use the Audi S4 though, but I followed the same guidelines that were given for the S4. After trying and failing at mastering the corner with that car countless times, I decided to google other people's tips on this corner and someone suggested the Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R (stock). It worked wonders and I was able to master it after my second try. (Nice little X-mas gift ) Now I just need to master that same corner on the full Nordschleife track, together with a couple of others and I got my EDIT: Just got the famous Karussell ring-corner a 2nd time, on the full Nordschleife track this time. Also after my 2nd try with the Skyline 2000GT-R and I finished all my other corners with the same car. So even though I don't like this car's looks, I bought it after this and it now has a place of honor in my car garage for its heroism in the line of duty towards Edited December 24, 2009 by Aruberikku

AUSPUFF
Thanks mate, you were so helpful!!!! I'm very glad of all those positive replies! Wish I could add more to it, but you guys can try and give some detailed descriptions of corners you found to be a bit on the difficult side and I'll add them in the first post. Spa perhaps ... although i did describe it slightly.

AUSPUFF
What is the best car for all race track for cornering? There isn't one. I gave few examples of the ones i used, and they were in one way or another biased by what i like and my driving style. You'll need to pick few and try them out. Slow or fast - it doesn't matter. T0lly
I mastered all corners on all tracks fairly quickly. I used a Scion tC upgraded the Suspension, Brakes, and Tires only. Antilock brakes = ON Traction Control = ON Stability control = ON The Scion worked well for me, you can take most corners at full speed and not slide the rear. You may hear a little tire squeal but that is fine. I used Quick race and went thru every track until I had them all done. Took about 12 hours. I just tried to stay as close to the driving line as possible, if I made a turn and I felt I did it right but it did not register, I just went a little faster and it checked off. You have to finish the race and exit for the corners to count. If I got just one corner per race I would exit and start again. Nordschleife was the hardest. Took about 20 tries to get all the corners. Good luck and have fun.

DON'T FOLLOW the line, ..I tried to preach that in my guide... there is NO wrong racing line in racing.. anyway , ok listen... Try to go more wide in the right hander and EARLY, then transition to the left and try to cut corner, go over-kiss the red/white curb and stay STRAIGHT... just gain speed through it then gently go right again to enter the "suggested" race line in the exit of the last right-hander.
