IngoBlaze
I heard from a friend last night that a sequel for Independence Day is now being officially planned and after searching the web this appears to be true. Director Roland Emmerich has confirmed plans to make the sequel with Dean Devlin, noth of whom worked on the original film. I'm intrigued to see what kind of story they would come up with to follow on. Seems the most likely would be that the aliens come back reinforced. And I wonder if any of the previous cast would make a return? Terminator
This has been in development hell for years, personally I don't think it will happen. I'm not keen on a sequel as the ending to the first film was pretty final.
MTURNER1985
A sequel will only work if they can get most of the original cast back!
Harry94_
It could happen, the ending wasn't that final. The aliens could come back. But as it has been said most the original cast would need to ocme back and the film is old so I doubt that will happen..
TOOSWEET919
The first one was great and idk how there could be a sequel really... If it does happen would be cool to see Will Smith in it again. The speech from the President is still one of my fav movie scenes.
kdrcraig
Like Terminator said, this has been in development hell for years, that's never a good sign. I doubt it will actually happen.
Captain_Speirs
If it happens, I am only interested if there are least of a few members of the original cast, and one of them HAS to be Will Smith. Johnny Bananas
I'm in agreement with others. I think the movie will only be good if some of the original cast are in it, especially Will Smith, Bill Pullman (might be too old now or not possible since he was the President in the film), and Jeff Goldblum. The 'cuckoo' guy would be nice to have again but I highly doubt that happen.
Ryakamanu
Hmm, I don't see this happening at this point. Men in Black coming back was fine I guess, but this just seems too far out of reach.

The movie was a great one and I just hope with whatever cast that this one is good too.

AshtimusPrime
Great film, but a sequel is completely unnecessary. The aliens coming back? All they need is anti-virus software and Earth is theirs.

staytrue1985
Would have to include Will Smith. I think they could manage without the others, but not him

DylanVylan
Don't care too much at all. I'll see it 'just because' mostly. When I was young I liked Independence Day alot but now it's just hilarious to me and I don't feel like it has stood the test of time as well as even some of the worst b movie alien attack movies. vegetollo7
Why exactly would there need to be a sequel? I think the first film wrapped things up rather nicely.
Multitasking
Adding some new news. Roland Emmerich spills 'Independence Day' sequel details | Inside Movies | EW.com Director talking about what the new movie will be about, sounds "plausible"... could be interesting. PainOfDemise
Interesting. I didn't even know there was talk about a sequel and now they are planning a two parter for it? Too bad they ruined the movie by giving away what was going to happen already! Guess won't need to see it if it ever comes out.
Multitasking
Yeah, I really doubt the 2 will be a great as the original, I remember standing in line on July 4th to see that in... 1996. Line was MASSIVE. Very few times I've ever seen that.
