Introduction

ModNation Racers has a nice balance of offline and online trophies and all the trophies range from easy trophies that introduce different sides of the game, to trophies that requires you to do certain stuff in races to the longer grinding trophies. The offline part of the game isn't to hard. Some of the challenges will surely be a test of skill or patience, but overall, it's not that hard. Most of the online trophies aren't that hard either. Getting a XP Series win can be a challenge for some, but if you have beaten all the offline trophies, you should be more than capable of doing that. Where the real challenge in this game lies, is the "Star Creator" trophy that requires you to get 250,000 Create XP. That will require you to get around 2,000 to 2,500 downloads of your mods, depending on how much point you get from races where they are used and views.

Please note that the steps underneath can be done in any order or if you feel like it, and you don't need to finish a step before moving onto the next one. So feel free to mix it up. With that said, the steps underneath is made to organize the different things you have to do to get the platinum trophy. With that said, you should start creating good stuff and publish it early on to start working towards the "Star Creator" trophy.

Step 1: Create

After finishing the first race, the next thing you should do is to go to the Creation Station to create your first Mod (character), Kart and Track. You may also want to look at all the video tutorials before starting to create things. This will also work towards the "Fast Learner" trophy. You should upload your creations and start promoting them to start the long road towards the "Star Creator" trophy that you get for earning 250,000 Create XP. After you have done this, it's a good time to familiarize yourself with the ModSpot and at the same time going for the "ModSpot Explorer" (Unobtainable) trophy.

Step 2: Career

The career includes 28 different races divided in 5 race series. You have to start with the first race and unlock one race at the time by finishing in top 3. The final race of each series requires you to win it. There is also a gold trophy for winning every race in career mode, so either re-start any race you don't finish first in, or wait for step 3 to do so. While doing the career races, you should focus on getting the "Third Eye", "Knockin' Boost", "Shields Up!", "Trigger Happy", "The Drifter", "Bruiser" and "Aggro Racer" trophies for doing things like using your shield, using every weapon, drift, hitting enemies with weapons, etc. If you want to see your progress towards these trophies, you can see that in the Stats section of the game (found in the start menu when you're in the ModSpot. Refer to the trophy guide for tips on how to do these.

Step 3: Cleaning up the career

After finishing up the career, you will probably need to go back to certain races, whether it is because you need to complete more challenges, find more tokens, beating developer lap times, winning races or even winning any grudge matches you haven't yet won or gotten access to. This step basically consist of looking at your trophy list to see what you are missing. Refer to the trophy guide for tips on any trophy you have problems with.

Step 4: Online - Unobtainable due to server closure

The online portion of this game is divided in to two different things. Doing online races and getting Create XP from your creations. The biggest grinding trophies is to reach rank 30 and getting 250 000 Create XP for the "ModNation Superstar" and "Star Creator" trophies. You also need to get 100 online wins to get the "Taking On The World" trophy. Another trophy worth mentioning is the "Flaming Hot" trophy for getting in the top 10% in hot lap mode. Focus mainly on these trophies and refer to the trophy guide for tips on how to get them.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/327/12.jpgFill'er Up(B)

Fill your boost meter

There are a few things that will give you more boost:

- Drifting by holding :cross:

- Drafting (being close behind other drivers)

- Spinning in the air (holding the right stick to the left or right while in the air

- Hitting people with weapons (thanks to MrTxxThaxxLad for this info)

Avoid boosting and continue to do this until the boost meter has filled up.

Hit 20 opponents with weapons dropped as secondary weapons

When you have a weapon equipped, you can hold the fire button, :square:, and it will fire the secondary weapon which is a grenade you drop behind you. This trophy is very easy and after you hit 20 enemies this way, the trophy will unlock. When you hit an enemy, their picture will pop up on the screen along with 2500 points.

Pretty self explanatory. Drive over a total of 100 boost pads and this will unlock. The boost pads are the pads with arrows on them that make you go fast.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/327/15.jpgShields Up! (B)(H)

Successfully defend yourself with your shield 20 times

To use a shield, you need to have boost, and preferably lots of it for defending against the toughest weapons. When someone shoots at you, you will hear an alerting sound and there will be a graphic low and in the middle of the screen to warn you. Deploy your shield by holding the :circle: button. It will take some practice to get the timing right. My best tip here would be to wait for your mod to look behind before you deploy the shield. If someone from behind shoots the Sonic Rift weapon, wait for it to pass you before you deploy the shield. The Sonic Rift weapon is the one with blue shock waves.

Do a 1080 spin and land successfully

To get this trophy, you need to spin 3 complete rounds while in the air. There are a few tracks in the game that you can do this one, but they are only available later in the career mode. One of them is called Citadel Heights. I have also made a track called 'Headspinner - 1080 Spin" which you can download by searching for 'Pesico'. The video below shows how to do this.

Try all the game modes in Single Player Race

To get this trophy, you must get to the Race Station and do these type of races:

- At least one career race

- Time Trial (do at least one lap). Time Trial is found in the Quick Race booth.

- Quick Race with race type set to Action Race.

- Quick Race with race type set to Pure Race

The trophy unlocks when you complete the last of these four race types.

Use all the weapons in the game

There are four different weapon types in this game. Each weapon has 3 different levels plus a secondary weapon. You get weapons by driving through the item pods which is the red circular things with UFG written on it. When you drive through an item pod when you don't have any weapons, you get level 1 of one of the four weapon types. If you pick up another item pod, that weapon will increase to level 2, and the next time you pick up an item pod, it will increase to level 3, which is the best level. To get this trophy you need to use all 3 levels plus the secondary weapon of all 4 different weapon types. To fire a weapon, push :square:. To fire a secondary weapon, hold :square: and let go. This will drop a grenade behind you. Below is a list of all 16 different types of weapons you need to use at least once to get this trophy (you don't need to actually hit someone with them).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/327/24.jpgDrifting Superstar (B)

Earn 100,000 drift points in one drift

To get 100 000 drift points in one drift, you basically have to drift for an entire lap in a maxed out track, and since you can't change direction from left to right or vice versa, you need a special track to do so. Either create one yourself or download the track I have published.

Go to Share in the Creation Station, search for tracks by text and use Pesico as your text phrase and then chose the Drifting Superstar track.

To drift, you have to hold the :cross: button and use the left stick to move laterally (from side to side). It is very important that you drift as wide or as close to the outer border of the track as possible. In other words, as far away from the crocodiles as possible, but without hitting the wall. If you drift on the inside, you won't get enough drift points by the end of the lap. You could also set the race speed to Rookie. As soon as you have 100 000 points, let go of the :cross: button and make sure you don't crash in the wall. Below is a video showing how to do it (credit to HachiRokuCH):

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/327/25.jpgThe Drifter (B)

Drift 1,000 times in total

Drifting is very important in this game so in time, this should come naturally. You drift by holding :cross:. If you want to check how many drifts you have made, push start in the ModSpot and then choose Stats. Amount of drifts is found under 'My Local Stats' and then in the 'Racing' category.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/327/26.jpgSlow and Steady (B)

Win an action race without using any boost or using a boost pad

In an action race (races with weapons), which can be in both quick race and career, you have to win the race without using boost or driving over a boost pad. You can however use weapons and your shield (deploy it by holding :circle:). Try to build up your boost meter so that you can use the shield by drifting in every corner. If you're closing in to the finish line, shoot the enemies, and if they fire at you, use your shield by pushing :circle:. Also, make sure that you don't accidentally hit any of the boost pads as they count as using boost.

I suggest doing this in Quick Race mode. With these settings:

Number of laps: 1

Speed Class: Whatever you are most comfortable with.

Race Type: Action Race

AI Racers: 3

Difficulty: Easy

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/327/27.jpgPacifist (B)

Win an action race without firing any weapons

A pretty straight forward trophy. In an action race, which can be in both single race or career, you have to win it without firing any weapons. This includes sideswiping opponents (thanks to DBZ0wnz for that information). It should come pretty easy. Make sure you use your boost for all it's worth and taking every shortcut available to you. Also use the shield (you need boost to do that) when you think you will be hit by an enemies weapon. If you have allready downloaded the track mentioned for "Drifting Superstar", it makes it incredibly easy for this trophy as there are no item pods on that track.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/327/31.jpgSay Cheese! (B)

Use photo mode in a race, in a studio, or in the ModSpot

In the ModSpot, press start, choose Extras and then Photo Mode. Push L1 to take a photo.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/327/33.jpgBruiser (B)

Get a total of 200 takedowns

Takedowns is when you hit other racers with weapons. 200 takedowns should come in no time. If you want to check how many takedowns you have made, push start in the Modspot and then chose Stats. Amount of takedowns is found under 'My Local Stats' and then in the 'Racing' category.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/327/34.jpgAggro Racer (B)

Sideswipe 75 opponents

To sideswipe an opponent, you need to drive up to the side of him and then push the right stick in that drivers direction. You will need a certain amount of boost in order to pull this off. When you have done this 75 times, the trophy will unlock. If you want to check how many sideswipes you have made, push start in the ModSpot and then chose Stats. Amount of sideswipes is found under 'My Local Stats' and then in the 'Racing' category.

Win the Grand Finale

To get this trophy, you must win the final race of the career mode.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/327/39.jpgElite Hunter (S)(H)

Beat all the elite racers in the grudge matches.

In certain career races, you have the possibility to unlock grudge matches against the Elite player in that race. To unlock a grudge match, you have to complete all 3 challenges of that track. When you do that, you will be asked if you want to participate in the grudge match. Answer yes and then win the grudge matche to get this trophy.

There are three different types of grudge matches:

- Point race 1-on-1 vs. the Elite driver - You have to score more points by drifting, getting air time, etc.

- Normal race 1-on-1 vs. the Elite driver - It's just you and the Elite driver, finish first.

- A normal race against the Elite driver and his crew.

Below is a list of all career races that unlocks grudge matches:

The Home Tour: None

The Mayhem Tour: Miner's Rift, Boardwalk, Island Dash and Flaming Jumps.

The Range Tour: Market Run, Craggy Hills, Rickety Bridge and Drift Paradise.

The Grim Tour: Sandstorm, Switchback Valley, Lost Temple, Sinkhole, Marina, Rumble Island and Launchers Rush.

The Grand Tour: None

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/327/41.jpgJoin the Team (S)

Beat all 28 developer lap times in career

When you start career races, take a look at the screen that shows the track. It lists the name of the track, best lap and best time. To get this trophy, you have to beat the best lap time on all 28 tracks. If you have raced on the race before, there is no definitive way to see if you have beaten the lap time. You have to look at the time to see if it's round or not.

Does it look like this: 1:05.000? Then it's most likely a time you have yet to beat.

Does it look like this: 1:03.857? Then it's definitely your own time and you can move on to a different track.

Thanks to wottagunn for the following tips:

"To comfortably beat the lap times, race the first lap in a race really slowly, so you are literally half of the track behind the AI. Pick up weapon boxes until you have a level 3 boost (Warp).

At the start of the second lap, play the best you possibly can. Use all of your boost and drift constantly. You will never be shot by the AI because they will be ahead.

At the hardest part of the track, use your level 3 boost.

Doing this method, I managed to beat lap times by 10+ seconds."

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/327/43.jpgLevel of Merit (S)

Complete all the career challenges

There are 28 races in career mode and each race has three challenges. Advance, Payoff and Bonus. The Advance challenge has to be completed in order to advance to the next race, and usually consists of getting a top 3 position (except the final race of each series that requires 1st place). The other two challenges usually has two different things you need to do. One being to finish in 1st place and the other to mass up drift points, draft points, drive over boost pads, etc. If there are any specific challenges you have trouble with, check out this thread.

44.jpg Hoarder (S)

Collect all the tokens in the single player career

Each career race track has 5 tokens you need to find. Sometimes they are easy to spot, while they are more harder to spot on other occasions. Some of them will be up in the air which means you have to jump or double jump. Pushing :cross: once let's you jump and pushing it twice in succession lets you make a double jump. Other times the tokens are hidden in shortcuts or even in spaces that you have to shoot a trigger with the :r1: button (you need a small amount of boost to do this). By going to the Career central, you can see the tracks and how many tokens you have found on any track. To find the remaining ones, I suggest you start a race and just go slow looking for them.

46.jpg Dominator (G)

Come 1st in every race in the career

Get in 1st place in every race in the career. If there are any races you have trouble with, you can try changing your 'Driver Style'. I suggest keeping it at +2 drift all the time, but the acceleration/speed slider can be changed. You have to be in the ModSpot to change this. Just push the :r1: button to bring up a menu and then push :l2: to access 'Driver Style'.

28.jpg Remixer (B)

Remix a character, a kart, and a track

This trophy requires you to remix a uploaded character (mod), kart and track. You can remix your own creations or download other people's creations to remix theirs. When you have saved at least one character, kart and track, the trophy will unlock. If you remix one of your own creations that are uploaded, the game will add the number 2 at the end of the name when you try to save. This is okay, just save it like that.

Earn at least 5,000 Total XP (including Race XP and Create XP)

Unobtainable due to server closure

To get race XP, you need to play XP Races. To get Create XP, you have to upload you creations and have people download, view and race with/on them. See "Star Creator" (G) for more details on Create XP.

Win 100 Online Races

Unobtainable due to server closure

As the trophy says, you need to win 100 online races to get this one. Casual races count so you can easily boost this trophy with a friend. I do however suggest to try and do this in XP Races as the experience will work towards "ModNation™ Star" (S).

Earn at least 250,000 Create XP

Unobtainable due to server closure

This trophy might be the hardest and most time consuming one in the game. Here is a breakdown on how you get Create XP:

Downloads - 100 XP

Races Started - 25 XP

Views - 20 XP

This means you need 2,500 downloads of your mods, or less if you also get points for people using your mods in races or views them. You also get points from viewing your own mods, but only one time per mod.

Thanks to gyrfalcon09 for this info.

With that in mind, promote your creations to the best of your abilities. There are several sites on the net that will let you promote your creations. Use them for what it's worth.

The following is a possible boosting method, but it will take a lot of time. Just randomize mods and publish them until you hit the maximum uploads (which will increase when you get more Create XP). Then log into an alternate PSN account and download and view all your creations from the alternate PSN account. Do not do it by going into your profile, but simply use the search feature to search for your PSN ID. Going into your profile will only list a limited amount of your Mods. Then log back into your main account. Unpublish and publish all your Mods again and then rinse and repeat.

Achieve level rank 30

Unobtainable due to server closure

Both Race XP and Create XP works towards your rank. To get Race XP, you need to race XP Races. To get Create XP, people need to download, view and use your creations in races. See "Star Creator" (G) for more info on Create XP. If racing is your thing, I suggest you do XP Series rather than XP Races. If you win the series, you'll get a 500XP bonus. Second place overall gets 400XP and so on.

To get to rank 30, you need 500,000 XP.

I would like to thank anyone that contributed to this guide. You are mentioned in the respective trophies you provided help with. I would also like to thank Funkyweed for making the guide banner. If you think my guide helped you a lot, nothing would be more appreciated than downloading my tracks, mods and cars and feel free to leave a comment and I might take a look at your stuff to.

I hope you all enjoy the game just as much as I do and last but not least, thanks to United Front Games for creating such an amazing game.

nice to see a guide for game already but Trophy Headspinner has a spelling error

"Get as much speed as possible into a big jump and then push the left stick either left or right and hold it until your cart has spun 1080 degrees wich is 3 full rounds and then land successfully. I can recommend doing it on the track Citadel Heights wich is created by UFG themselves. It has a huge jump where this is very easy to pull off."

There is also no silver trophy icon in your trophy breakdown. :)

What do you mean? I can see silvers for offline and 3 for online.

does anyone know how you get create xp?

Like Cameron said, when they download and rate your creations. I assume you might get a little more if your creations are used in races to. Looks to me like 250 000 create XP is a lot.

With your 100,000 point drift track, it makes Pacifist and slow and steady very easy to do :)

I didn't think about that. I used the first UFG created track to do that:p

When is the "Flaming hot!" trophy awarded? is it at midnight or something when they change it to a new track? I spent a while on it and I'm pretty near the current fastest time at the moment.

The one from yesterday or the one from today? Yesterdays one I ran a lot but was always around 45-50 seconds. The leader was at 20 seconds! There must have been a glitch or a major shortcut or something in that course. My lap time wasn't very good, but 20 seconds was crazy.

The one from today. Says I'm 3rd at the moment! so i guess it awards it at the end of the day.

I don't know yet. Pretty sure it's not midnight though, because I was pretty much on the game since I got it and until late last night. When I woke up they had changed the track.

About that drift track, i don't know if i was doing something wrong or not but i could only get to around 80,000 points before the end of the lap where it turns the other way. I ended up having to make my own. Still would be good to know what i did wrong?
