MLB 09: The Show - Road Map and Trophy Guide

Recommended Posts

**The Platinum is no longer attainable as the 3 online trophies cannot be achieved due to the server being shutdown. There are still 5 (G) and 6 (S) available however**

Overview:

-Estimated trophy difficulty: 10/10 (Platinum Difficulty Thread)

-Offline: 27 (15 (B), 6 (S), 5 (G))

-Online: 3 (The servers were shutdown)

-Approximate amount of time to Platinum: 75+ hours to get the offline trophies

-Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 2 RttS (1 batter and 1 pitcher), 1 Franchise, Exhibition games

-Number of missable trophies: 0

-Glitched trophies: None

-Do cheat codes disable trophies?: No cheats

-Does difficulty affect trophies?: Yes (the description will say if it matters)

General notes:

Sliders: Very important. User sliders should always be turned up and CPU sliders almost always down.

Rosters: Can be edited, you can move players around or decrease/increase players' attributes. this is very useful for hard to get trophies

Difficulty: Unless stated in the description, Rookie difficulty yields the best results.

Step 1: Franchise mode:

Here you should start a Franchise team and go for the 10 win streak and Manager Mode trophies. After these have been achieved you can save this for touch up.

Step 2: Road to the Show batter:

Begin a Road to the Show as any non-Pitcher position. Start by playing games on Rookie difficulty to increase attributes. When you become an AA starter, begin trying to go for the 50 game hitting streak. Play through this season and your AAA season meeting all your goals and getting good stats and you should be on MLB by your 3rd season. You will get the call up trophy. Continue progressing your attributes, focusing on goals and power, contact and speed. Switch to all star difficulty when you feel ready to go for the all star difficulty trophies. Touch up what you have missed. Make sure you get the MVP trophy.

Step 3: Road to the Show Pitcher:

Begin another Road to the Show player and select a Pitcher. Pick any team or join the draft. Begin on Rookie difficulty. Play the first few weeks in the bullpen and make your first set of goals. You will then be a starter. Immediately begin going for the winning streak trophies. After getting the 15 winning streak, play out the next 2-3 seasons, improving attributes and get to the MLB team. It is now you will want to switch to all star difficulty and aim for the 10 strikeouts, after that, its time to tackle Personal Perfection. Play each game, simulating if you give up a Baserunner and continue improving attributes. You will throw one eventually.

Step 4: Touch up:

After all RttS and franchise trophies have been completed, touch up any stat, or achievement trophies you have yet to attain. Do 2 player games for the walkoffs if you haven't gotten them already. If you need any stat trophies, go back into Franchise and play all the games until the pop.

Trophy Guide

Hit a grand slam

A grand slam is when you hit a home run with the bases loaded. There are multiple routes to get this trophy. You can take the easy way and max out a players attributes, especially power and contact, adjust the user sliders to maximum, and load up the bases with hits or walks. Batting on rookie difficulty setting makes this easier as it's all about timing. Also, this has a good chance of coming naturally when playing the game, either in Road to the Show, you will get many opportunities to hit with the bases loaded, as your player. This can also be self-boosted. Enter a two player game, load up the bases as one player however you like, then pitch it right down the middle to a high power hitter and hit it with good timing.

This can be achieved in any game mode.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/002.jpgWalk off win (B)

Have a walkoff hit or walk to win a game.

The game needs to be tied or down anywhere up to 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning or in extras. If the game is tied and the bases are loaded, a simple walk will bring home the winning run. A base hit which results in a winning run is scored will also pop this trophy. Also can be boosted in 2 player games. Keep the game tied until the bottom of the 9th and allow the runner to score. This can be achieved in any game mode.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/006.jpgRttS Power Plays (B)

Hit 2 HR in a single RttS game on All-Star or higher difficulty.

You are going to want to upgrade your power and contact as a Road to the Show Hitter. Make sure your user sliders are maxed out and your power attribute is high. Set the difficulty to All-Star. Swing at good pitches with good timing. If it doesn't happen right away, keep trying and you'll eventually get it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/007.jpgRttS In Control (B)

Strike out 10 batters in a single RttS game on All-Star or higher difficulty.

With you're a RttS Pitcher, use a fastball, change up, and curveball. Increase the pitch attributes as you go. Decrease the CPU sliders. Throw a lot of fastball-change up combos. The fastball with be around 100MPH and the change up will be 70MPH or less. Keep pitches out of the middle and you should be good. If you play RttS for fun, this will probably come naturally.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/008.jpgMake The Call (B)

Get called up to the MLB team

Pick any RttS position and meet all of your goals. You will always want to make 1 more than half of the goals for each advancement period. Set difficulty to Rookie to make your stats look better. If you are not a September call up you will most likely get called up at the beginning of your 3rd season. When you get called up you will get this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/010.jpgRttS Streaker (Batter) (B)

Have a 10 game regular season hitting streak in Road to the Show. Simulating games in which your RttS player appears will restart the streak.

See RttS Streaker (Batter) (G)

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/013.jpgRttS Streaker (Pitcher) (B)

Have a 5 game regular season win streak in Road to the Show. Simulating games in which your RttS player appears will restart the streak.

See RttS Streaker (Pitcher) (G)

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/020.jpgNet works (B)

Win 5 online games.

No longer attainable as the servers have been shutdown.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/023.jpgIt takes time (Hits) (B)

Get 1000 hits in any combination of modes.

Any game mode played will contribute to this. This will most likely come naturally as you go for all the other trophies. Franchise and RttS hitter are good modes for grinding.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/024.jpgIt takes time (Strike Outs) (B)

Strike out 500 batters in any combination of modes.

This one should come naturally when playing for other pitching trophies. 3-5 seasons of RttS as a starter should get you this. Any game mode will contribute.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/025.jpgIt takes time (RBI) (B)

Get 1500 RBI in any combination of modes.

This one will come over time. All game modes contribute. If it doesn't, go into Franchise mode and play the games until it pops.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/026.jpgIt takes time (HR) (B)

Hit 300 Homeruns in any combination of modes.

This will come over time and will come faster if you use powerful players, max out the attributes of a team and play as them and max out the sliders for that user.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/028.jpgManagerial (B)

Win a Manager Mode game. Can be completed in Manager Mode, Season and Franchise.

In Manager Mode you don't control the players but you can tell them what to do. Play the Yankees against a double A team. Select Manager Mode in the main menu. You should win this game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/029.jpgShut em' out (B)

Throw a Shut Out vs. the CPU on All-Star or higher difficulty.

This can be achieved in any game mode against a CPU. To Shut Out a team you must not give up any runs and win the game. RttS or franchise are good modes to get this in as you will probably come across a Shut Out naturally. Adjust your sliders, and keep trying. If you do this in Exhibition mode, edit attributes to 0 for the team you are facing or play a double A team. Make sure to use a teams Ace Starter. You can also save in the middle of a game after each inning and quit the game and restart the game if you fail.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/009.jpgStop Thief! (B) (H)

Steal 3 bases in a single RttS game.

Max out the speeding attribute, adjust the Baserunner speed global slider along with the pickoff attempts slider. When ever you reach base, hold at 1st base. Steal second. You will most likely make it easily. After that, attempt to steal 3rd. No harm can be done if you are caught stealing. Do this 3 times and it'll pop. Centre Fielders start with the most speed.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/027.jpgIt happens to everyone (B) (H)

Lose 100 games.

This should come naturally. Any game that you participate in and lose will count. RttS losses as a Batter count as well.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/003.jpgWalk off in style (S)

Have a walkoff HR to win a game.

This is similar to Walk Off Win, only this time you need to hit a Homerun to win the game. Enter the bottom of the 9th inning tied and hit a Homerun. This will also unlock Walk Off Win. Boost with 2 players. Enter the 9th inning down or tied and allow Homeruns (inside the park will also work) until the home team wins.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/004.jpgDon’t Hit Me (S)

Throw a No Hitter vs. the CPU on All-Star or higher difficulty.

Similar to Shut em' Out only you cannot allow a hit. You can allow walks, errors, etc but It cannot be a base hit. See Shut em' Out for tips.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/005.jpgStreaker (Team) (S)

Have a 10 game win streak in Season or Franchise mode vs. the CPU. Simulating or Fast Forwarding will restart the streak.

Start a Franchise. Either edit a teams roster/attributes for maximum attributes or select a good team. Simulate spring training. Play on Rookie difficulty setting and adjust the sliders. Do not fast forward or simulate as it will restart the streak. The game auto-saves after each game so if you lose a game you can quit the game and restart after the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/011.jpgRttS Streaker (Batter) (S)

Have a 20 game regular season hitting streak in Road to the Show. Simulating games in which your RttS player appears will restart the streak.

See RttS Streaker (Batter) (G)

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/014.jpgRttS Streaker (Pitcher) (S)

Have a 10 game regular season win streak in Road to the Show. Simulating games in which your RttS player appears will restart the streak.

See RttS Streaker (Pitcher) (G)

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/016.jpgRttS Added Value (S)

Win any Award in RttS. (MLB only).

You can win any award in the major leagues: the Cy Young Award, MVP award, Rookie of the Year, Relief Award, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, or Hank Aaron Award. Set difficulty to rookie and max out sliders and you should get an award.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/021.jpgMajor Leaguer (S)

Join and complete (must play 60% or more games) an online league.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/012.jpgRttS Streaker (Batter) (G)

Have a 50 game regular season hitting streak in Road to the Show. Simulating games in which your RttS player appears will restart the streak.

This is not that hard. Wait until you are a starter to avoid constant pinch hit games. Set difficulty to rookie and adjust sliders. If you do not get a hit, quit the game and restart. This will get easier as you increase your attributes. You will get 3-5 chances to get a hit per start.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/015.jpgRttS Streaker (Pitcher) (G)

Have a 15 game regular season win streak in Road to the Show.

This can be achieved in any level. AA, AAA or MLB. This can also be achieved across different seasons and post season and spring training will not count. Set difficulty to rookie, and listen to where the catcher tells you to put the ball. This will get easier as you increase attributes. No Decisions will not end the streak. When you get to the end of the game and you see that your name is next to the loss, quit the game and restart and try again. You must pitch 5 innings to be qualified for the win.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/017.jpgRttS MVP (G)

Win the MVP award in RttS (MLB only).

For this trophy you must earn the MVP award. You will need to play a full season as a highly ranked batter to win this. It seemed in this game that Pitchers never win the award. Play a season with attributes in the 80's at least on Rookie difficulty. You can check progress on the awards in the accolades section in the league tab in the RttS menu.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/018.jpgRttS The Cycle (G)

Hit for the Cycle with your RttS player.

A cycle is when you hit a single, double, triple and a Homerun in the same game. Speed, power and contact are essential for the HR and 3B. play on Rookie and adjust sliders. This may take some time but it will happen on your pursuit for other trophies. If it doesn't, just keep playing.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/019.jpgPersonal Perfection (G)

Throw a perfect game on All-Star or higher difficulty using your RTTS player.

This one's hard. A perfect game is when you do not allow any baserunners to reach base in a 9 inning game. Basically 27 up, 27 down. This will require luck, some skill, and a good player with good attributes. Your fielders cannot commit an error that allows a runner to reach base. Must be on All star or higher difficulty. I recommend you do this one last after getting everything else. Just play each start and if you give up a baserunner just simulate to the end and try the next one. Keep pitches out of the middle and make sure you have a maxed out fast ball and change up. Avoid working too far inside as the ball could hit the batter and end the perfect game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/022.jpgOnline Legend (G)

Win an online league. (Must play 60% or more games)

No longer attainable as the servers have been shutdown.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/100/000.jpg100% Clear (P)

This is the platinum trophy and is unlocked automatically when all the trophies have been unlocked.

No longer attainable as the servers have been shutdown.

yeah this is a tough guide to do and really most of the trophies are self explanatory on how to get them other then the fact that u may or may not be able to save after every out in certain modes to achieve the perfection,no hitter, and shutout trophies on allstar or higher difficulty!

Yeah, but any of the trophies that are difficult -- like The Cycle and Personal Perfection -- are almost entirely based around having a lot of skill or the luck of the devil... and "Get better at the game!" isn't exactly guide material.

This is just one of those few games where the trophies are all about skill. Kudos to whoever gets the platinum, because there really aren't any tricks here.

  • 3 years later...
  • 3 years later...

I was planning to go for more of these that i left on the table back then.

I have less than 30%!!

Add in that my first trophy ever was from this. The reason is some of these are hard as a motherfucker.

I was all in until i checked my collection - i don't trade games in - and realized i don't have this game anymore! I think i gave it to a co worker who wanted to try a baseball vidgame. Hopefully i can get a used copy from Gamestop. Probably costs $1!
