Introduction:

Mirror's Edge is an extremely unique game that enters the world of freerunning. You'll jump, skill roll and wallrun your way all over town. The unique gameplay of the game can be incredibly entertaining, but at the same time can sometimes be quite frustrating - especially when going for the platinum. Some of the trophies, especially those related to Time Trials and Speedruns, can be particularly difficult to complete. However with practice and perseverance, anyone can earn this platinum.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Complete the game without shooting anyone

First of all, you'll want to complete the game without shooting any enemies for the "Test of Faith" trophy. You can do this on Easy or Normal difficulty, so it is recommended that you try for it on Easy to make things more manageable for yourself. While doing this, try and collect all of the hidden bags in each level so that you won't have to worry about them during your Hard playthrough. Work towards all of the miscellaneous trophies during this playthrough as well, such as disarming enemies for "Mine!".

Try and learn the chapters as best you can, as knowing where you can freerun will be vital for Hard difficulty.

Upon completing Step 1, you will earn:

Step 2: Complete the game on Hard

Upon completing the game once, you will unlock Hard difficulty. Enemies will hit harder and you will lose your Runner's Vision, meaning objects will no longer be highlighted red to indicate a viable freerunning path. This is why it's recommended that you learn the basic paths through the chapters during your initial playthrough. With "Test of Faith" done in the first step, you can be as trigger happy as you want during this playthrough. If you can, disarm an enemy with :triangle: and take out any enemies in your vicinity to make advancing further much easier.

Upon completing Step 2, you will earn:

(G)

Pro Runner

Step 3: Earn 50 Stars in Time Trials

Thirdly, we have the Time Trials. It is strongly recommended that you do these before the Speedruns, as it will allow you to learn excellent methods for bypassing the toughest sections on the chapters, which will be vital information for the speedruns. If you need help finding routes to complete Time Trials successfully, it is recommended that you download a ghost of at least 2 stars and try to learn their method.

The base game has 23 Time Trials, plus there is one free to download. If with these 24 Time Trials you are still unable to earn 50 stars, then you can choose to purchase the Pure Time Trials DLC, which will add a further nine Time Trials for a total of 33. With that many, you can easily reach 50 stars without too much difficulty.

Upon completing Step 3, you will earn:

(B)

On the clock

(B)

Access all areas

(B)

Baby steps

(S)

A for effort

(G)

Still counting

Step 4: Complete the Speedruns

Lastly, we come to what many consider to be the hardest part of the Platinum: the Speedruns. Completing the game once will give you access to the Speedruns of each chapter. Each of these chapters must be completed again within a set time in order to unlock their respective trophy, and while some aren't too difficult, "Chapter 2 Speedrun" and "Chapter 9 Speedrun" will likely cause you some trouble. All I can say for this is to learn the fastest routes for the levels and practice, practice, practice!

If you're having difficulty completing them, then watch the videos in the guide for how to complete each chapter. There are also a few techniques, such as the side jump boost, that will help lower your times. For tips on how to perform some of these techniques and shortcuts, please see ovendonkey186's YouTube Channel, as most are covered in his tutorial videos.

Upon completing Step 4, you will earn:

(B)

Prologue Speedrun

(B)

Chapter 1 Speedrun

(B)

Chapter 2 Speedrun

(B)

Chapter 3 Speedrun

(B)

Chapter 4 Speedrun

(B)

Chapter 5 Speedrun

(B)

Chapter 6 Speedrun

(B)

Chapter 7 Speedrun

(B)

Chapter 8 Speedrun

(B)

Chapter 9 Speedrun

Step 5: Cleanup

This step shouldn't really be required, but if you somehow managed to miss any of the miscellaneous trophies during the earlier steps, then now is the time to collect them. Please see the respective trophies if you need help on attaining them.

012.jpg  Pro runner (G)

Complete story mode on hard difficulty.

Upon completing the game once, you will unlock Hard difficulty. Enemies will hit harder and you will lose your Runner's Vision, meaning objects will no longer be highlighted red to indicate a viable freerunning path. Due to the increased damage that you'll take, it is recommended that when given the chance, you should disarm enemies and use their weapons against them, as trying to run past packs in tight areas can easily result in your death. Complete all Chapters and the Prologue for this trophy.

NOTE: Some people have reported this trophy not unlocking when simply playing the chapters through Chapter Select. Because of this, it is recommended you start a new game on Hard difficulty, as opposed to just going through each mission via Chapter Select.

039.jpg  Test of Faith (S)

Complete the game without shooting an enemy

As the description says, you must complete the game without shooting any enemies. Playing on Easy difficulty will make surviving without the usage of weapons significantly easier, so this is recommended. When confronting enemies, only use melee with :r2: and disarm with :triangle:. If you disarm an enemy, make sure to throw away his weapon with :triangle:, as pressing :r2: will shoot the weapon. To clarify, you can fire weapons, you just can't hit any enemies, though to be safe it's recommended that you just don't shoot at all.

If you want to check to ensure you haven't shot anyone, then go to the menu with :select:. If it says "So far, you have not fired a shot at anyone" in the top right-hand corner, then you're fine.

Time Trial Trophies:

Unlock all Time Trial stretches

When you start the game, most of the Time Trials will be locked. They can be unlocked by completing certain chapters in the Campaign, or by completing certain Time Trials. Fulfill the requirements, and this will unlock along with the last Time Trial.

018.jpg  Baby steps (B)

Attain a Time Trial star rating of 20

Attain a Time Trial star rating of 35

See "Still Counting" for details.

020.jpg  Still counting (G)

Attain a Time Trial star rating of 50

An aspect of Mirror's Edge is its Time Trials, which are small sections of their chapter counterparts that task you with hitting checkpoints in a fast time. The base game includes 23 Time Trials, all with three stars for each difficulty. This means there are a total of 69 stars. There is also a free Time Trial that will increase the total to 72 stars, plus there is the Pure Time Trials DLC that will add 9 Time Trials and bring the total to 99 stars, but this DLC isn't free.

Learning the areas and how to execute them quickly is key to getting a high star rating. If need be, you can download ghosts from the leaderboards to help learn good methods. I recommend that you first learn off of 2-Star ghosts as opposed to 3-Star ghosts, as some 3-Stars can be a bit complicated to learn off the bat.

Alternatively, you can watch videos of every base game Time Trial with 3 stars on quebecboby's YouTube Channel.

Speedrun Trophies:

021.jpg  Prologue Speedrun (B)

Complete a Speedrun of the Prologue below the target time.

Complete the game to unlock this Speedrun. You must complete the level in under 3 minutes. Below is a video demonstrating how to complete it, courtesy of watuhboy.

General Speedrun Tips:

  • Learn the level: Obviously, knowing where to go and how to progress in each area is the first step to completing these Speedruns under the required time.
  • Pause when waiting for doors to open: In several chapters, you'll have to wait for doors to open. The reason you have to wait is because the game is loading in the background. If you pause for 10-15 seconds when this is happening, the doors will automatically open when you unpause, saving you precious seconds. This is most notable in Chapter 2 with the gate, and Chapter 9 with the elevator.
  • Practice makes perfect: Some of the faster methods for tackling certain sections can be difficult to do, so it is advised you practice these techniques and areas beforehand so that you don't make a mistake during the real thing.
  • Use Time Trials to test each area: The Time Trials are generally the most complex sections of the respective chapters. Because of this, you can learn how to complete these areas via the Time Trials, then take that knowledge into your Speedruns to result in faster times.
  • Use Reaction Time for hard sections: Some parts can be difficult to do in quick succession, so utilise Reaction Time with :square: to allow you to complete the part easily and without error.
  • Coil jumping is your friend: When running, you will maintain a higher speed if you constantly coil jump as you run. While the difference is only 1 or 2 mph, over a whole chapter, the time will add up.
  • Side jump boost: While not at all mandatory, learning how to side jump boost can help shave off more time. Please see the below video for how to side jump boost, courtesy of overdonkey186.

Miscellaneous Trophies:

031.jpg  Vrooom! (S)

Maintain sprint speed for 30 seconds.

In any open or long area, such as the beginning of Chapter 2 - Jacknife, reach full speed and maintain it for 30 seconds. Don't jump or stop moving, as this will disrupt and reset the 30 seconds. Once you have maintained sprint speed for 30 seconds, stop running and the trophy will unlock.

Below is a video demonstrating this in Chapter 2 - Jacknife. Credit for the video goes to FocalPointGaming.

032.jpg  Up, over, under, onwards (S)

String together the following: jump, coil (over obstacle), slide (under obstacle)

Best done in Prologue - The Edge. Run towards the solar panel and jump with :l1:, then hold :l2: to coil over the fence, holding :l2: to slide under the pipe.

Breakdown:

Jump (:l1:) > coil (hold :l2:) > slide (hold :l2:)

Below is a video demonstrating this in Prologue - The Edge. Credit for the video goes to MrDWGaming.

033.jpg  Free flowing (S)

String together the following: wallrun, jump, speedvault

Easily done in Prologue - The Edge. Run towards a wall and press :l1: to jump and wallrun. Press :r1: to turn 180 degrees, then press :l1: to jump. When you land, press :l1: in front of an obstacle to speedvault over it.

Easily done in Prologue - The Edge. Find two buildings with a gap in between them. Run and jump towards one with :l1:, then then with :r1:. Jump with :l1: and you'll hit the parallel wall and immediately wallclimb. Press :r1: to turn again, then jump off with :l1:

Breakdown:

Jump towards wall (:l1:) > turn 180 degrees (:r1:) > jump (:l1:) > wallclimb (automatic) > turn 180 degrees (:r1:) > jump (:l1:)

035.jpg  Aaaand Safe! (S)

String together the following: wallrun, jump, coil (over obstacle), skill roll

Easily done in Prologue - The Edge. Find a wall parallel to a fence, then get a run up. Wallrun with :l1: then jump off with :l1:. Hold :l2: to coil over the fence, then press :l2: just before you land to skill roll.

Breakdown:

Jump towards wall (:l1:) > jump (:l1:) > coil (:l2:) > skill roll (:l2: as you land)

Below is a video demonstrating this in Prologue - The Edge. Credit for the video goes to MrDWGaming.

036.jpg  Head over heels (B)

Complete a chapter of the game without ending up in a heavy landing

Easily done in Prologue - The Edge. To avoid a heavy landing, you must skill roll by pressing :l2: just before you land whenever you fall from a distance. This will include any jumps you make off buildings, or falling down chutes. Complete the chapter without receiving a heavy landing for the trophy to unlock.

037.jpg  Untouchable (B)

Complete a chapter without getting shot

Best done in Prologue - The Edge. This chapter only has two enemies, so this should be easy. When you encounter the first enemy, jump kick him with :l1: + :r2:, then dodge to the left to avoid the second enemy's gunfire. Quickly get close and disarm him with :triangle:.

038.jpg  Pacifist (B)

Complete a chapter without firing a gun

You'll undoubtedly earn this while going for "Test of Faith". Simply complete any chapter using only melee (:r2:) and disarms (:triangle:). Best done during Prologue - The Edge, as there are only two enemies that you'll encounter.

040.jpg  Martial artist (B)

Perform a melee hit from a wallrun

Find an enemy near a wall, then wallrun by pressing :l1: near the wall at an angle. When you near the enemy, press :r2: and Faith will kick the enemy, thus unlocking the trophy.

041.jpg  Mine! (B)

Perform 15 successful disarms (outside of the tutorial)

When near an enemy, press :triangle: when his weapon turns red (doesn't turn red on Hard difficulty). You'll take his gun from him and disarm him. Do this 15 times between Prologue - The Edge and Chapter 9 - The Shard.

042.jpg  Tango down (B)

Knock out 20 enemies in melee combat

To knock out an enemy, hit them with melee attacks 2-5 times, depending on what type of enemy they are. You can use normal melee with :r2:, or you can jumpkick with :l1: + :r2:, or even slidekick with :l2: + :r2:. You'll likely get this through natural progression, though this can be farmed by getting takedowns, then dying and restarting the checkpoint.

043.jpg  Sweet goodbye (B)(H)

Triggered the flip-off move

While in combat, jump off a building with :l1:, then quickly rotate with :r1:, then perform the flip-off with move with :r2:. Faith will give the two-fingered salute, thus unlocking the trophy.

Below is a video demonstrating this in Prologue - The Edge. Credit for the video goes to MrDWGaming.

044.jpg  Hey, it's-a-me! (B)(H)

Execute a stomp move on an enemy

In order to execute a stomp move on an enemy, you must use a jumpkick with :l1: + :r2: from a higher point. This is easily done against the very first enemy. He'll be standing next to a vent. Climb atop the vent, then jump towards him with :l1:, then stomp him with :r2:.

Below is a video demonstrating this in Prologue - The Edge. Credit for the video goes to MrDWGaming.

I felt that the current guide was lacking slightly, plus having the roadmap and guide in seperate threads is ugly. I also have a guide for the DLC, but I'll post that later :)

Looks pretty good dude. I Platinum'd and got all the DLC trophies years and years ago... one of my proudest for sure. Should've been GOTY. One of my all-time faves!

Cheers. I'm the same (save for the DLC), but it's still probably in my top 5 of so proudest platinums. Really hope a Mirror's Edge 2 does release one day, despite it being cancelled.

There is, I'm just challenging it. The current one isn't especially good, it's borrowed from the sister site, plus the Trophy Guide and the Road Map are in seperate threads.

It's decent. I platted the game with the other guide (although it was mostly form the video links which is what this game pretty much is lol, follow the video for the hard trophies).

Nonetheless your guide is obviously up to today's standard and should replace the old one.

I used it too, and at the time it was up to the standards, but now it has fallen behind the times a bit.

Nice one :)

Already got the (P) long time ago (easier than people made it ought to be) and mainly used Overdonkey's videos. I didn't pull off all those special moves, but his videos show many great tricks and shortcuts that anyone can use.

Cheers :)

Yeah I found it considerably easier than I was expecting, I remember beating the Chapter 2 Speedrun time by a minute and being awfully surprised. Overdonkey's vids are beyond helpful too.

I would suggest adding something about the pause trick on Chapters 2 and 9, which make the speedruns a bit easier.

On Chapter 2 there is a scene where you have to wait for the gates to open. The game is only making you wait because it is trying to load the next scene. If you pause the game, the clock timer will stop but the game will still load in the background. Pause the game, wait about 10-15 seconds, and when you unpause the game the gates should open and you will have saved a few precious seconds.

The same thing can be done with Chapter 9 and the elevator ride.

Very nice guide. I wish this was up when I got the plat. The videos from Watuhboy and Ovendonkey are brilliant they definitely helped me get the plat.

I felt like we needed a new guide but was too lazy to do it so well done and congrats on the sticky :D

Thanks :) The videos certainly are fantastic.

If you pause the game, the clock timer will stop but the game will still load in the background. Pause the game, wait about 10-15 seconds, and when you unpause the game the gates should open and you will have saved a few precious seconds.

The same thing can be done with Chapter 9 and the elevator ride.

Wow I can't believe I completely forgot to mention that! It can be used for others chapters too if I remember correctly. I'll make the change when I'm on a computer.

An extra tip for Chapter 9. I've heard quite a few people having trouble with the server room. What really made it easy for me, is to run in a circle around the servers. The police will destroy the servers by trying to shoot you. Once all of them are destroyed, you can use one of the small vault jumps (or whatever it's called) and jump close to the exit. Be careful with the guy standing in front of it though. He can shoot you down before reaching the exit. Either just completely ignore him, or quickly run to the exit.

Also, the chapter 2 video is missing one of the best and easiest shortcuts in the game. The one where you have to jump on the plate, carried by the crane at the storm drain, if you stand in the corner long enough, the plate will go down, but you'll automatically hit a ledge at the bottom of the drain :)
