Roadmap

Introduction: Welcome to Mini Ninjas, a fairly fun action title most likely geared to children or people that love Hello Kitty (or both). The hero of the game is Hiro () and you'll play as him or one of his comrades throughout this game. You and your mini ninja buddies are out to free some forest animals that are being possessed by some evil mini samurais. The adventure is very linear and only mildly challenging. This game is pretty straight forward, not bad to play and is definitely worth a quick rental. Now, some details on how to go about getting the platinum.

Step 1: Complete the story mode on hard. Change the difficulty to hard in the options menu. Make sure you actually change the difficulty prior to playing the game otherwise you won't get the "Hard Little Ninja" trophy. Also, note you can turn off the sixaxis motion controls in the game. I personally didn't like the sixaxis controls and they really make the "Snowy Canyon" level a lot harder than it needs to be. Moving on, as of this editing, more and more people are saying that nothing is missable in this game. Rather than argue about this, I'll just point out that the most problematic trophies for people are the following: "Animal Friend", "Completist", "Stop! Futo Time!", "Tengu Friend" and "Sightseeing". These are all collection or exploration related trophies. I would recommend getting these along with all the story related trophies, including beating the game on hard, before moving on to step 2. There is trophy specific information under each trophy. One last note: There is a continue option at the end of each level that allows you to round up anything you missed. It can't hurt to use this and be sure you've gotten everything before you move on.

Step 2: Mop-up. After you've completed the game on hard and have gotten the specific trophies mentioned in step 1, you should mop up the remaining trophies through level select. The trophy descriptions have details about which levels are good for farming.

Story (Unmissable) Trophies

Important note: All of these are story based and cannot be missed provided you progress through the entire story mode. The game is pretty darn easy and the game guides you whenever you're stuck, so no specific advice is really needed.

All Other Trophies

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/14.jpg Tree Hugger (B)

Shake 15 trees

Any fruit-bearing bush or tree you can shake (literally, if you're using the sixaxis controls). Shake 15 distinct fruit-bearing trees and this trophy is yours. Unfortunately, bushes do not count. There are plenty of fruit-bearing trees throughout this game. So, no real hunting needed here.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/16.jpg Avalanche (B)

Defeat an enemy as a snowball

This is done in the level "Snowy Canyon" and is best attempted just after the first checkpoint. You will be given instruction about how to jump just after this checkpoint. If you jump over the chasm you'll see your first set of enemies. Don't worry about these guys. Just further down, there will be two more sets of enemies. These are the ones you want to focus on. You want to veer into a tree little before you approach these enemies. By doing so, you will cause Hiro to roll and accumulate snow. If he rolls enough, he'll become a snowball. While a snowball, you want to hit an enemy. This can be a little tricky and may take a couple of attempts.

Important note: It is much easier to navigate with the sixaxis controls turned OFF. You can turn these off in the options menu. Just be sure not to mess with your difficulty setting.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/17.jpg Smooth Sailing (B)

Flawless Great River Canyon rafting

This is done on the level "Great River Canyon". Towards the end of the level, you will have to do two rafting sections. There will be rocks in the water that can damage your bowl hat. The amount of damage you've taken is indicated in the upper right of the screen. Get through these rapids without any damage and the trophy will unlock. To make it easier to navigate, you should back pedal so that your speed is decreased. It has been suggested that you cannot hit a single thing on your rafting run, but I'm not entirely sold on this since I definitely skimmed a rock without taking any damage and the trophy still unlocked for me. There's a checkpoint right before, so you can reload until you get the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/20.jpg Bow Before Me (B)

Defeat 50 enemies with the bow

One of your playable ninjas is Shun and the bow is his weapon. Just defeat 50 enemies with him and this trophy is yours.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/22.jpg Eat My Dust (B)

Travel far in full gallop

One of your playable ninjas is Tora and his special ability is a sprinting attack. To get this trophy, you have to use this special move a certain number of times. (According to jefxfree, you don't even need to hit any enemies.) I recommend not activating the special move until your sprint meter is full, as this determines how long you can sprint for. Also, be sure to keep the special move activated until you've used all of your sprint meter. You keep the special move active by holding down Triangle.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/23.jpg Pied Piper (B)

Incite 50 enemies to dance

One of your playable ninjas is Suzume and her special move is to make ninjas dance as she plays her flute. Whenever you encounter a mob of enemies, activate this special move and the trophy will unlock in no time.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/24.jpg Poker (B)

Defeat 30 spearmen with the spear

One of your playable ninjas is Kunoichi and her weapon is the spear. Your samurai enemies either use swords, bows or spears. You have to defeat 30 of the spear ones with Kunoichi for this trophy. The level "Final Approach" has two groups of spear equipped enemies fairly early in the level. Defeat these two groups while running past everyone else, find a check point and then quit. Now, wash and repeat until the trophy pops. Alternatively, you can just use Kunoichi in your normal progression whenever you see spear enemies.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/25.jpg Don't Blame it on the Sunshine (B)

Bring sunshine to all the denizens of the graveyard

In the level "Haunted Forest", you will come across a graveyard where you learn a sunshine spell. Use this spell to defeat all of the enemies in the grave yard. You can only defeat these ghost with this spell.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/26.jpg No Conjurer of Cheap Tricks (B)

Expend 1500 Ki using Kuji magic

This will almost definitely come naturally as you progress through the game, since you'll be using magic fairly regularly. Obviously, if you need to farm this, just use magic. The graveyard in the "Haunted Forest" level is a decent place to go back to if necessary, since you can only defeat the ghost with magic and, once defeated, they drop more Ki.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/28.jpg Big Guy (B)

Defeat a large one

You encounter large samurais in various levels. As far as I know Futo is the only one that can take them down. Just use him to defeat one and you'll get the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/29.jpg Boardom (B)

Defeat 10 enemies as the boar

Boars are among the wild animals you will come across. Use your spirit possession spell to take control of one. Once you have control, use the boar to defeat 10 enemies. There is a boar next to Suzume when you free here in the level "Leaving Home".

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/30.jpg Bear With Me (B)

Defeat 10 enemies as the bear

Bears are among the wild animals you will come across. In the level, "Leaving Home" you will actually be told to take possession of a bear to defeat some enemies. Just continue to use the bear until the trophy unlocks.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/35.jpg Sightseeing (B)

Visit all temples

These are not hard to find and often you come across the temple as you're completing some other mission objective. There are six temples total and they are located in the following levels:

  • Leaving Home
  • A Distress Signal
  • Grassy Hills
  • Flooded Valley
  • Winter Range
  • Volcano's Shadow

Some people seem to think that this has to be done in a single play-through and can't be completed via level select. I don't know for sure, but I would just make sure you get these as you go along to be safe.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/15.jpg Sage of Philosophy (S)

Reach level cap

Experience is gained by collecting the brownish orbs dropped by defeated enemies or freed animals. This will most likely come towards the end of the game, provided you've been diligently defeating all of your enemies and freeing animals. Otherwise, this should definitely come along as you mop up all the other trophies.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/21.jpg Stop! Futo Time! (S)

Use Futo in combat on all levels

You just need to defeat one enemy using Futo in all the levels that you can select him; i.e. all non-boss levels. Some people seem to think that this has to be done in a single play-through and can't be completed via level select. I personally missed this on my first play-through. Fortunately, I knew that I only forgot to use him on one level, namely "Snowy Canyon". I did level select on that level, used him once and the trophy unlocked. So, I'm not convinced that this has to be done on a single play-through. But I would just make sure you use him on every level as you go along to be safe.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/27.jpg Now You See Me ... (S)

Defeat 100 enemies with stealth attack

This one actually took me a bit of time to grind because I rarely used the stealth attack in the game. I highly recommend that you use stealth attack as you go along as much as possible to minimize the amount of time you have to grind this later. If it does come to grinding, I found the "Leaving Home" level as a nice place to farm.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/32.jpg Botanist (S)

Collect one of each ingredient

There are twelve total. This one should come naturally. As of the writing of this guide, there is not a map available for the ingredients, but many of the ingredients are in plain sight. I had no difficulty getting this trophy by just collecting the ingredients that I saw as I went along. Here is a list (complements of ErmacVersion1) of the ingredients to be collected along with known levels that they are on:

  • Ingredient, Level it can be found
  • Blue Petal, Ninja Mountain
  • Oyster Mushroom, Ninja Mountain
  • Ginseng Root, Ninja Mountain
  • Anemone, Ninja Mountain
  • Spear of Ashida, Ninja Mountain
  • Tiger Lilly, Leaving Home
  • Stone Cap, Leaving Home
  • Burdock Flower, Leaving Home
  • Horse Tails, A Distress Signal
  • Sacred Lotus, A Distress Signal
  • Wild Parsley, Winter Range
  • Mountain Fire, Winter Range

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/34.jpg Tengu Friend (S)

Complete all Wandering Tengu quests

The Tengu are the bird-like characters in this game. All of their quests are really easy. Most of the Tengu are in plain sight. There are five total quests. Here are the levels where you can find them:

  • Leaving Home (two here)
  • Haunted Forest
  • Flooded Valley
  • Winter Range

Again, there are reports of a possible glitch whereby the Tengu fails to appear if you advance too far into a given level. I personally never encountered this problem.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/13.jpg Animal Friend (G)

Free all caged animals

As of the writing of this guide, there is no map for the caged animals. However, almost all of the animals are located in plain view. The most frustrating ones are located in the various castle levels. In these levels, just remember to check all ledges and in houses that have yellow breakable doors. Also, be sure to completely free the animal from its cage. You'll know if the animal has been freed if a experience orb is left behind. Or, if you are totally paranoid you can check your progress after each animal is freed to see if it's registered. Finally, this is yet another trophy that people suggest is missable, so be sure to free every animal before you move on to the next level. On the other hand, there are others, namely Crash484, who say that they know the trophy is not missable. He points out that when you go to replay a level the animal counter is reset to zero (unlike the Jizo and spell counters) and as such you'll have to recollect each animal during each replay.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/19.jpg Hard Little Ninja (G)

Complete game on hard difficulty

If you don't want to reply the game on hard, be sure to change the difficulty to hard before you start the game in the options menu. Don't worry hard is not hard at all. On the other hand, I have been informed that you can get this trophy via level select if necessary. That is, if you complete the game on a lower difficulty setting, you don't have to start a new game save to get this trophy. Just beat every level on hard via level select. Unfortunately, there's no indicator telling you what levels you've completed on hard. So, you'll have to keep track of that yourself.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/31.jpg Silent Assas... Ninja (G)

Complete a level without being seen

This one is actually very easy if you do it on the level "Great River Canyon". Using the "back route" head up waterfall rocks heading to where you got the first spell in the level. Take the path towards the bridge that has some samurai guarding each side. You can drop down into the water before the bridge out of sight of these enemies and past the rock wall that blocked your water passage from down below. Once in the water, hug the right side of the lake and head towards the rapids. When you've made it to the rapids, you're in the clear as there are no more enemies in the level after that point. Now, just finish out the level.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/205/33.jpg Completist (G)

Collect all Jizo statues

There 100 of these statues scattered throughout the game. Some are in plain view, others not so much. Fortunately, ErmacVersion1, from over at our sister site, has compiled an excellent guide for these which I've minimally edited with his permission. Here is a link to my edited version: Jizo Statue Guide. Like "Animal Friend", there is much debate over whether this trophy is missable or not. Since a guide is provided, I would just be sure to collect all of these statues for a given level before you move on to the next.

For videos to find the Jizo statues, you can visit hiryusbd's youtube page.

when u quit to the main menu.. u can replay a level...

are u sure the animals can be missed?

could just replay a level and get them

I'm not 100% sure that this can be missed, but a lot of people are saying that it can. I can't say from experience and I don't have the game any longer to test it out. Either way, you're better off just hunting all out as you go along.

Just a couple of points about the the Trophies. With Eat My Dust you also have to either activate the sprint 20 times or kill 20/30 samurai with the sprint attack for it to unlock. I also believe with the Smooth Sailing Trophy you can't touch any rocks or walls at all, even if no damage registers, or you won't get it.

Cauchy....Great guide.

I want to add three points (issues) that will be sure to come up.

1. Animal Friend - When breaking up cages, make sure you completely open the cage until you see the orb and the animal scurries off. Sometimes I broke open a cage with one hit but there was still another hit needed to remove all the bars completely.

2. Animal Friend - If you end the level and you get a stamp for getting all the Animals on the level, try not to replay that level. Doing a replay will force you to find all the animals for that level again. I made this mistake on the Great River Canyon Level. I finished the level 100% and decided to go back and replay the level to get the "Smooth Sailing" trophy. Doing this resets the animals for that level. When I finished the game I did not get the trophy. Thus, I remembered that I replayed the Great River Canyon so I decided to replay a 3rd time and low and behold...trophy popped. My biggest recommendation is do not replay a level until game is over. If you missed a statue or caged animal...choose "Continue Playing" instead of "Next Level".

3. Stop! Futo Time! - I think you made the same mistake as me. Note that on the "Snowy Canyon" level, it is easy to forget to use Futo. As soon as the Avalanche part is over, be sure to use Futo to kill one of the enemies before you leave the area. As the trophy description suggests: Use Futo to Kill one enemy on every level except boss levels.

I hope this saves someome the headache. ;)

Thanks for the tips. I try to incorporate this information. I was actually thinking about putting some of these things in initially, but I didn't want to totally overwhelm the readers of the guide.

EDIT: The tips have more or less been incorporated. Thanks again.

Just did it and skimmed 4 rocks without taking damage and it still popped. At one point i was actually out of the water sliding on the corner of one of the flat rocks and it still unlocked. So it's only damage that will stop you from unlocking it.

Thanks for verifying this. I knew I just hit a single rock and I though maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me. In the end, I was just happy to have the trophy unlocked.
