Introduction:

Midway Arcade Origins is another in a line of "Retro Collection" games that seem to pop up now and again. It consists of 31 popular Bally-Midway arcade games from the early 1980's to the early 1990's. It has a lot of great games that still play well, but it also has some that either haven't aged well, or the controls did not crossover to consoles well. Each of the 31 games has a single trophy to earn. For the most part, they are fairly easy to get done with minimal skill or time involved, but do not think that this collection is as easy as it looks at first glance. There are a handful of trophies that will test your skill and patience.

Walkthrough:

Play through all 31 games in whatever order you so choose. Make absolutely sure to choose Score Attack mode for every game you play. You cannot earn any trophies in Free Play. In Score Attack, you have no continues at your disposal. Some games this won't matter, but others definitely make it more challenging. Many of the trophies will come with little to no time or effort on your part, however, there are several that will take some practice to get done, whether it be from game difficulty or rough controls. After completing all games and their objectives for acquiring the trophies, you will have earned yourself a shiny new (P)!

TROPHY GUIDE

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/4F9.jpg Original Win (P)

Collect every other trophy.

You know the drill. Collect all the other 31 trophies and this bad boy is yours!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/AEA.jpg Gold Medalist (G)

720: Earn a Gold Medal on any event in Score Attack Mode.

Now here is one of the trophies, though not too difficult by itself, is made challenging by rough controls. When you start, make sure to choose "Training Level". Now, the easiest way I found to get a Gold Medal is to head to the Downhill Park. All you have to do is ride down this descending skate hill in time to get gold. There is a timer at the top of the screen that shows how quickly you have to complete it.

Without question, the hardest part about this game is getting used to the controls. Spend a few minutes practicing getting the controls down. Once you feel ready, go ahead and give it a try.

The fastest and safest way to get downhill is to go wide before each drop, then cut over so you can make the drop as straight to being parallel to the next platform as possible. Do not jump between each one. Just make sure to line your skateboard up parallel to each lower platform as you go between them. This will definitely take you several tries to master, but once you have the feel for it down, it becomes one of the easier Golds in this collection.

Some have said the Ramp Park is pretty easy, too, but I really struggled getting better than Silver on it. Stick with Downhill - it's much easier.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/8F4.jpg Get Freaky (S)

APB: Take down Freddy Freak in Score Attack Mode.

Here is a trophy that is only mildly difficult because the game is so confusing. When you start, MAKE SURE to pick Day 3, since Freddy Freak only appears on Day 3. Immediately floor it, while holding down the siren, and always stay to the left. You will eventually come up to train tracks. As long as you have been going fast, you will cross the tracks before the train. Right after the train tracks, on the right side of the street, Freddy Freak will pull into the road. He has a bright pink "Hippie Van". Immediately ram him off the road. As long as you keep on him, it will take no time to arrest him.

After gathering up Freddy, things get even more confusing. Floor it again with your siren blaring, and keep heading to the left every chance you can. Eventually, you will pull into the Police Station. MAKE SURE to park in the back on the right hand side. You don't have to actually park, just drive right into it. Hold down the gas button and prepare to mash the hell out of the siren button. You will now be "interrogating" Freddy as the Chief is heading to your office. As long as you get the bar up before the chief grabs your door, Freddy confesses, and you got yourself another trophy!

This will definitely take a few tries - if you aren't fast enough driving you can run out of time, but as long as you stay left, pull over Freddy quickly and refrain from crashing, you will have this one done fairly easily.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/FDB.jpg All-Star (G)

Arch Rivals: Score at least 6 consecutive points in Score Attack Mode.

Now onto an easy trophy. Arch Rivals is a pretty bare bones basketball game. 2 on 2 with only pass and shoot as options. When you are on defense, the pass button allows you to punch opposing teammates - with no fouls!

All you need to do is score 6 points in a row before the other team gets a score. You can do this by shooting three 2-pointers, but I found it much quicker and easier to shoot two 3-pointers. Just get one of your guys open and shoot a three-pointer. If you ever miss, be aggressive and go for the ball - punching if you need to. Just rinse and repeat and you are done. This shouldn't take more than a few tries.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/52D.jpg Clean-Up (B)

Bubbles: Sweep up a big bug in Score Attack Mode.

Another mildly confusing game, but at least this time, it is an easy trophy. You play as a bubble cleaning up a sink.

Just move around cleaning up and avoiding the scrub brushes. Very shortly, a miniature Witch on a broomstick will come out of the drain. "Clean" her and you will get her broomstick. Shortly after the drain will flash red. This means a "big bug" will come out within a few seconds. As soon as it does, hit it with your broomstick!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/4BC.jpg True Champion (S)

Championship Sprint: Get first place in 3 consecutive races in Score Attack Mode.

All you need to do for this is to win 3 races in a row. Sounds easy enough. On this game, make sure to choose the second track to start on, not the first. I found if you pick the first track, your second and third races will be on much more challenging tracks. I also found using the D-Pad (instead of the joysticks) makes turning MUCH easier.

Your first two races shouldn't give you any trouble. You may even find yourself lapping opponents, even though each race is only 30-45 seconds. Once you get to the third race, the AI steps its game up considerably. Just concentrate on getting a decent lead (1/4-1/2 lap is fine) then drive conservatively. Bumping into walls after driving too fast can ruin any chance of winning. The biggest challenge for this (and Super Sprint/Super Off-Road) is getting used to the turning controls. Once you get over that, these shouldn't be as bad as some people would lead you to believe.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/1C5.jpg They Need a Hero (B)

Defender: Save 3 astronauts in Score Attack Mode.

Defender and Defender II are mindlessly fun shooters that should pose no trouble to get the trophies in each one.

All you need to do is save 3 astronauts from the baddies, grab them and gently place them down on the ground. On top of the screen is a map. USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE! There will be a weird sound effect every time an astronaut is grabbed. Just find who has it, shoot them, grab the astronaut as he falls and place him down on the ground. You could also use each of your three Smartbombs (which kill everyone on screen), but it's easy enough without them.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/893.jpg Doesn't Need Food Badly (S)

Gauntlet: Reach Level 8 in Score Attack Mode.

Here is another very very easy trophy. Pick whoever you want to play as and immediately head down. Grab the key at the bottom - but DO NOT exit! Use the key on the blue wall to your right. Head to the top right corner of this room and grab the key. Use this key on the blue wall ahead of you. Now, just head up and you will see another exit - "Exit to Level 8". Go through it and DING! That's it! Easy peasy.

Gauntlet II: Reach Level 7 in Score Attack Mode.

Although this one seems challenging at first, this one can be as easy as the trophy in Gauntlet with a neat little trick that the game tells you to do!

First off, grab the key in the bottom right corner of the room you start in. Next, head for the blue wall at the north end of this room. After going through here, head up and left and step on the flashing blue area. This will open the north end of this room. Grab the key at the top left and head right. Grab some food and head down after you grab the bottle of rum. Go through the exit marked "Exit to 6". Now is where the trick comes into play!!

In the pause menu there is a scrolling info board at the bottom. One of the tidbits is a tip for Gauntlet II. It says something to the effect "If you stand still until 35 health ticks away, all exits will appear". This trick, though not totally accurate here, makes this trophy so easy!

As soon as you start up in Level 6, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR CONTROLLER!!!! Wait. And wait. After a period of time (I started at around 600 health and it happened at about 275-300 health) all the exits will appear! Just go through one and you are done!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/C6A.jpg Pterrific! (S)

Joust: Defeat a Pterodactyl in Score Attack Mode.

Joust is a fairly challenging game where you have to destroy enemies while riding a flying ostrich. The only way to defeat the enemies is by hitting them from a higher altitude than they are at.

Easiest way to do this one is to defeat everyone except one baddie on the first level. Leave him be and wait. After a minute or two, a pterodactyl will appear. The only way to defeat the pterodactyl is to hit him head on at the same level as he is. It may take a few tries as getting the right kill height can be frustrating, but you should get this with relative ease.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/D84.jpg Long Live the Bird (S)

Joust 2: Reach Wave 5 in Score Attack Mode.

Now comes a much more challenging trophy. Much more so than the first Joust. All you have to do is REACH Wave 5, not complete it. So, once you beat Wave 4 your trophy will pop shortly after.

For the first two waves, stay up high and let the enemies come to you. When you defeat each one, make sure to grab the eggs they leave behind. If you wait too long, they will respawn as Blue Knights - which are significantly more difficult than their original form. Try to get through the first 2 waves with minimal loss of lives. Wave 3 is where it gets tough.

As soon as Wave 3 starts, get to the bottom and wait for baddies to get by you and give 'em the old Ostrich Stomp. If the eggs fall into the lava, they automatically respawn into Blue Knights. If the egg goes in a second time, they are finished. Your biggest problem will be the big red guy. He's fast and can disappear. Try to take him out ASAP as he can spawn more baddies. Once you have defeated them all it's onto Wave 4.

As soon as Wave 4 starts, head down and change to the Pegasus. Stay here and take out the enormous amount of bats. Once you feel comfortable enough, venture out and get the remaining Evil Knights. When they are all defeated you are done! Congrats - it isn't easy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/860.jpg High Roller (B)

Marble Madness: Defeat the beginner race within 15 seconds in Score Attack Mode.

This one you don't even need to try. Just pick the beginner level and roll to the exit in 15 seconds or less. You can fall off a couple times and still have plenty of time. Easy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/ED2.jpg First Rule of Pit Fighting (S)

Pit Fighter: Defeat 3 consecutive opponents in Score Attack Mode.

Another fairly easy trophy. All you need to do is win 3 fights in a row.

Easiest way (for me, at least) is to pick Ty as your fighter. Now, just spam his jumping roundhouse kick - :r2: + :square: + :cross:. Keep timing it so you land it when your opponent just stands up. If you get him to the side, all the better for you! The "fans" will damage him, too!

Repeat this in 2 more fights (the Grudge Match doesn't count - you can lose it or win it) and the trophy has been added to your ever-expanding collection!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/300.jpg Monstrous (S)

Rampage: Defeat 3 consecutive cities in Score Attack Mode.

The point of Rampage is simple - climb buildings, destroy buildings, don't die. Sounds pretty cut and dry. The only issue is your character is SLOOOOOW. It is very hard to avoid things, especially the ever annoying dynamite.

I chose George for no reason whatsoever. Start at the first building in Peoria and climb almost to the top. Now the fastest way I've found is to just punch down diagonally as you descend each building, occasionally punching Army guys and windows - windows randomly have health in them. Continue this making sure to take as little damage as possible (if any) on the first level. If a building is gonna fall and you are still on it, jump off. If you fall, you will lose a ton of health. But if you jump, you lose none.

Moving onto Joliet, it's more of the same. Climb buildings. Destroy buildings. Avoid bullets and especially dynamite. If you are climbing up a building that has an overlapping building behind it, punch up also to give you a headstart on it. After getting through Joliet, it's time for sweet home Chicago! I found it necessary to have AT LEAST 50% health when starting Chicago. Do what you do best - destroying buildings - and you should get through Chicago after a few attempts. Once Chicago falls, a trophy pops!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/2B4.jpg Target Practice (B)

Rampart: Defeat the first 3 ships in the first level in one battle in Score Attack Mode.

This is one of the easiest and quickest trophies on here. When the game starts, choose Recruit. Select the second area to build (it's the one closest to the sea). Place your 3 cannons in the tower and as soon as the 3 ships appear, pepper them with cannonballs. Once they are destroyed, your trophy dings. Super easy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/6F8.jpg Family Man (B)

Robotron: 2084: Rescue 7 family members without losing a life in Score Attack Mode.

Robotron is a twin-stick shooter. All you have to do is grab 7 family members without losing a life. It is pretty easy, but it may take a few tries because of the seizure-inducing visuals.

On the first stage there are 2 family members. Grab them while defeating evil alien/robot thingies and once all are defeated, you move on to the second stage. Here there are 3 family members. Do the same as the first stage while avoiding getting hit, and you now have 5 of the required 7. In the third stage, there are a total of 5 family members. Just grab 2 more and the trophy is yours!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/C47.jpg Savior (S)

Satan's Hollow: Defeat Satan in Score Attack Mode.

Yet another fast and easy trophy for you. Don't worry. You will pay for these easy ones shortly….

As you play, there will be little white triangle-like pieces appearing on the bottom left of your screen. Fly over it and drag it all the way to right, all while defeating enemies (don't forget to use your shield when necessary - it recharges after time). Move 6 of the pieces over to make a bridge which will trigger a different area. Who spawns now? Why the Prince of Darkness himself, SATAN! Just shoot him and the trophy is yours.

Note - Satan is NOT the fire-breathing guy who appears occasionally and is on the trophy tile. I know. Confusing, right?

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/95E.jpg You Hunger (S)

Sinistar: Defeat Sinistar in Score Attack Mode.

This game is tough. I mean TOUGH. It's another space shooter with a handy-dandy map to help you track baddies and Sinistar himself. A few things to note in this game. The red guys can't harm you. They can bump you and steal asteroid chunks that make Sinibombs, but no damage. The gray UFO's, however, can and will kill you.

The point of the game is to collect asteroid chunks to make Sinibombs to defeat Sinistar once he forms. Just go around shooting baddies and shooting asteroids until they shake and release glowing orbs. Grab them as quickly as possible (they are unbelievably difficult to grab) and continue on to more asteroids. All the while you are doing this, Sinistar is doing the same to form his body/ship/whatever. When he has fully formed he will say "Beware. I live." Now he will appear and come after you. Make absolutely sure you have AT LEAST 13 Sinibombs, preferably more. I usually had 17-20 before he spawns.

Watch your map - Sinistar appears as a yellow dot - and when he gets near you, fly away. Drop sinibombs at a steady pace while going in one direction. If a message says "Sinibomb intercepted" it missed him. Do this 13 times and he is finished and you are one silver trophy richer!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/493.jpg Reality Show-Off (G)

Smash TV: Defeat the first level in Score Attack Mode.

Well. Here it is. Your punishment for easy trophies in this collection. Smash TV. An excellent twin-stick shooter that also happens to be crazy challenging - especially in Score Attack mode. Definitely the hardest trophy in the game. The premise is simple enough. Think "Running Man" with a MUCH higher body count. You just have to get through 6 increasingly difficult rooms with 100's of bad guys before facing off with the boss of the first level, Mutoid Man.

This will definitely test your skill and patience. Here is what I found helps -

  • Take the bottom path when given the choice. The bonus money round up top is way too tough to consistently have a chance.
  • Luck is very important. How well you do is based off of what the game gives you for power-ups.
  • The best power-ups? Extra lives. The invincibility shield. The spread gun.
  • You have an invincibility shield after each death for a few seconds. USE IT!
  • You don't have to take out the big exploding shrapnel guys, but be aware of their shrapnel.
  • When you get into a room with Wall-Mounted turret guys, try to take them out before baddies start to spawn.
  • Take out Tank guys, Wall-Mounted turret guys and the bouncing red orbs ASAP!
  • Conserve power-up ammo when you can, especially good stuff like spread gun, RPG's, etc.
  • It's a given, but try to conserve your lives. It's safe to have around 4 or 5 lives left when you get to second to last room - Tank Control.
  • When you get to Mutoid Man's room, prepare for bouncing red orbs first, then focus as much as you can on his left turret. After that, get behind him. He can't hit you from the left behind him. Just be wary of his turrets, if they remain. Cautiously grab power-ups and spam him from behind him (keeping in mind your regular gun doesn't hurt him) - NEVER GET IN FRONT OF HIM! Also, be wary of the big exploding guys that come in and their shrapnel.

Be forewarned. This may take hours to defeat. But keep at it. Eventually you'll know patterns and get a good run with killer power-ups! Once Mutoid Man is defeated, that sweet, sweet gold is all yours!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/C74.jpg Score Hunter (B)

Spy Hunter: Break 10,000 points in Score Attack Mode.

After Smash TV, you will be rewarded with some easy trophies. In the still great Spy Hunter, to get the trophy just drive fast and try not to crash. The faster and farther you go, the higher your points go. After a little bit, as long as you drove safe and fast, 10,000 points will be easily achieved with the subsequent trophy-poppage commencing right after!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/8A9.jpg Saint (S)

Spy Hunter II: Play the game for 15 consecutive minutes in Score Attack Mode.

The single easiest trophy in the game. Start a game of Spy Hunter II and do nothing. That's right, just sit there. Die and let it sit. Continue to do nothing. Once you lose all your lives and get the "Game Over" screen, continue to do nothing. After 15 minutes are up, ding! Easy as pie! Thank the maker because this would be MUCH more challenging if you actually had to play for 15 consecutive minutes.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/3EB.jpg They Need a Hero... Again (B)

Defender II: Save 3 astronauts in Score Attack Mode.

No different than Defender, other than there is more on the screen. Just follow my tips from Defender and this trophy is yours forever!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/ED2.jpg X-Treme Off-Road (S)

Super Off Road: Get first place in 3 consecutive races in Score Attack Mode.

Super Off-Road is definitely the easiest of the 3 racing trophies. And just like the others, I found it easiest to use the D-Pad as opposed to the joysticks.

You only need to win 3 races in a row to grab this trophy, but, unlike the "Sprint" games, the AI is dumb even in the 3rd race. Just drive your truck like you stole it, avoiding water and walls, using your nitro boost when you need it on straightaways mostly. Grab money if you can because you can upgrade between races. I just got Accel upgrades each time and spent the leftover money on Nitro. Really, it shouldn't give you much issue once you have a feel for the turning controls. After your 3rd win in a row, the silver is yours.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/A87.jpg Superior Sprint (S)

Super Sprint: Get first place in 3 consecutive races in Score Attack Mode.

Personally, I found this to be the toughest of the 3 racing games. It is basically the same as Championship Sprint, however I found picking the first track given makes the final 2 easier. Use the same tips as you utilized in Championship Sprint in this one. Only major difference is (to me) it seems the 3rd race has MUCH more ruthless AI than its counterpart. Keep practicing, and after several tries, you should now be done with all the racing trophies! Huzzah!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/C16.jpg Tap that Glass (B)

Root Beer Tapper: Clear 25 customers without dropping a glass in Score Attack Mode.

All you need to do is clear out 25 customers in a row without dropping a glass. This is another really easy trophy. Only thing to watch for is the guys who send back mugs. Just keep serving them until they get all the way to the opposite side where they will be cleared. This trophy should pop shortly into the second stage.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/067.jpg Ride the Wave (S)

Toobin': Complete Colorado without sinking in Score Attack Mode.

Here is yet another decent game RUINED by terrible controls. First and foremost, practice. The controls take a LONG time to get a handle of. But, once you have them down, this trophy is much easier than most people give it credit for.

As you Toob down Colorado, here is what I focused on to get it done very easily -

  • You cannot get hit at all for this trophy, so be on the defensive while going downriver.
  • Try to stay close behind your opponent. He will take out some obstacles for you.
  • Collect cans. You may need a few to deal with the logs.
  • When the first split comes up, go a little ahead of your opponent and, most importantly, STAY LEFT!!! (Left side of screen)
  • Don't be afraid to use cans on obstacles.
  • If the croc shows up, Toob away FAST!
  • Always stay left. It's the quickest route (should take 2-3 minutes) and some have reported it not popping the trophy if you go other ways.
  • Another "duh" tip - avoid the obstacles!

Once you get out of Colorado and start in a jungle, the trophy will pop.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/ED6.jpg Total Warpage (B)

Total Carnage: Use a shortcut in Score Attack Mode.

Total Carnage is the "sequel" to the awesome Smash TV. Don't worry. This is one of the easiest trophies ever.

When you start off, just kill the baddies. Head to the right after the first hill and you will see a spinning purple vortex. Go in it. And….that's it. Trophy unlocked. Just a *smidge* easier than Smash TV!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/028.jpg Great Coaching (S)

Tournament Cyberball 2072: Score at least 12 consecutive points in Score Attack Mode.

This trophy gave me more trouble than I think it should have. Tournament Cyberball 2072 is a footballish game played with robots and a bomb. Unlike American football, there aren't first downs. You have to get the ball past a certain yardage line before it blows to "de-fuse" it. When the ball is "Critical" you have to get past the yardage given or it blows up and the opposing team gets the ball…err, bomb.

You get the ball first. Easiest way, I found, is just to go for passing plays. Remember, you only have to score 12 points in a row, so the conversion points don't matter. When passing, wait for a robot to be on one of the squares for catching and move your joystick over to the highlighted place you want to throw to. If you get close enough to the goal line, QB sneaks and running plays may be easier.

On defense, Safety Blitzes and other Blitzes work best to stop them. Choose your controllable player and be aggressive. If you succeed in stopping them you will get the bomb back. Now, rinse and repeat what you just did on offense, and you should get this out of the way after a few attempts.

Another good tip for this - if you score the last touchdown of a game and then start another game right afterwards, if you score the first touchdown in the next game it will take that as scoring 12 points in a row!

credit for this tip goes to spoonman

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/2C3.jpg On Base (B)

Vindicators Part II: Defeat the first base in Score Attack Mode.

Yet ANOTHER decent arcade game just destroyed by bad controls. It's hard to even explain just how bad the controls are. Just practice. Don't even worry about beating the first base until you can consistently maneuver your tank well.

Once you have that figured out it becomes pretty simple. On the first stage just head up, collecting fuel and finally grabbing either key at the end and go through the corresponding door. The second stage is where it can get hairy. Keep heading up, dodging bullets, defeating enemies and collecting fuel and make sure to grab the key about halfway through the stage. Continue heading up to the door and head through it. On the third and final stage, head up and to the left. When you see the base, rain down upon it your massive firepower. When it is destroyed, head inside. Once inside, just exit out through any door and the trophy is yours.

Wizard of Wor: Get 10,000 points and 3x your opponent's score in Score Attack Mode.

Wizard of Wor is a very interesting and kinda fun game. The trophy is also mighty easy to get. Just stay on your side (for the most part) and be aggressive. Make sure to take down the occasional different colored baddie - they are worth more points - and your opponent. Keep it up and you will get 3x his score and over 10,000 points very easily.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/A37.jpg Not Afraid (S)

Xenophobe: Survive the first level in Score Attack Mode.

Pretty simple trophy for you here. Best tip for this? Actually, I have two. Stay in the first room. And crouch. Some of the baddies have to be killed by you crouching AND holding down while shooting. Just keep blasting away at bad guys until time runs out. When it does, you are done. Trophy unlocked!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1727/7A5.jpg Third-Person Shooter (S)

Xybots: Survive 3 levels without dying in Score Attack Mode.

Xybots - the world's first 3rd person shooter! And yet another pretty easy trophy. All you need to do is make it to level 4 without dying. Just head towards the exit at a brisk pace. Be cautious of corners and get rid of the baddies ASAP. Nothing too challenging here, just keep on killing and heading to the next level and you will have this silver added to your collection.

You should say directly that after "Game Over" appears in Spy Hunter 2, you can just leave the game on, and you will get the trophy. I was a little confused by what you meant with "Die". I thought you meant that he stays in the truck or something.

Other than that, good guide.

Other than that, good guide.

Yeah, I get what you mean. I'll clear it up. Thanks for the kind words and tip.

That trophy had sapped my will. I couldn't understand how people were playing a game for 15 minutes (and the game is so bad that I would get frustrated and not actually play for 15 consecutive minutes).

I don't remember that game being so bad when I was young, but maybe that's because I only saw it in arcades once or twice.

Now, the trophy almost seems funny, like you're a saint for putting up with that piece of shit for 15 minutes in a row.

I do. Spy Hunter II, IMHO, is such a huge disppointment after how awesome the original was. That's why I'm so glad I accidentally figured out that trick for the trophy (I crashed and had to go help my son do something. Came back like 10 minutes later as the trophy was popping!) because playing SHII is not fun

I completed the platinum in about 5 hours. Without a doubt, Smash TV is the most challenging trophy, and I'd say Joust 2 is second. Joust 1 is also pretty challenging. Luckily, I read this topic before I started, so I didn't have to play Spy Hunter 2. Thanks for the guide, and I enjoyed the description of Bubbles.

Toobin' was my final trophy, and I have no idea how I unlocked it. I paused and exited out of the game after an unsuccessful try, and somehow that did it. I did a few attempts, but at no point did I ever go through without getting hit. I saw something on here about it being glitchy?

Most of these games I've played before, but it was cool to try out some new ones like Satan's Hollow, Wizards of Wor, and Xybots.

No problem and thanks for the compliment. Yeah, kinda hard to *rationally* describe Bubbles!

I've done Toobin on my account and on two other accounts and had the trophy pop when and how it should. However, if some more people can CONFIRM there is a possible glitch with it, I'd love to hear about it so I can amend the guide.

And, yeah, I also had played most of these, either on NES, SNES or in the arcade. But the few that I hadn't it was cool to get to try them out. In my opinion, I thought this was a pretty darn good collection. Except Spy Hunter II! :D

Wizard of Wor is dated now, but that game was awesome back in the day. It was one game that the Atari 2600 also made a great version of.

I find that killing the Pterodactyl in Joust is hit or miss, although if you spam flying while under a platform, usually, you'll hit him head on when he attacks (he always seems to rise to your level). Gauntlet II was actually giving me fits - I had no idea that tons of exits would open for you.

The more I look at this guide, the happier I am with it. While the majority of the games don't need any guide, it offers great explanations for the ones that do. Kudos!

for me sinistar and smash tv are the hardest by far (and the sprint games drove me crazy, no pun intended)

Still can't do sinistar or smash tv, though i swear i must've been the only person to get the SHII trophy legit lol, but my god it was an awful shitty game.

Until i quit playing midway because sinistar was actually causing me to despise the game so much, i was working on a trophy guide aswell, if you like i can post any tips/tricks etc i found that you may not have mentioned, for use in your guide?

Definitely. If they are good and helpful, and really add something new to what I already have written, I'd gladly add them and give ya credit.

So, one thing I would mention for Smash TV:

the first two rooms are very easy. If you kill enemies slowly, you can maximize the # of power-ups that appear. This works for any room, but later on, the game will start sending tank soldiers at you if you take too long (I never had this problem for the first two rooms). Thus, you can stall and try to get extra lives.

Also, Mutoid Man is still pretty hard, even with the fact that you are invincible in the upper left. You can't hurt him with regular shots, and the power-ups often spawn at the bottom of the screen. The shrapnel guys will get smarter as you wait. Still, I got this on around my 10th try, so it's not incredibly difficult.

Concerning the first part, I tried that a few times and all it did for me was make it easier for me to get careless. If I stayed moving and killing at a decent speed, I never lose a life in the first couple rooms. And tank guys never come in first rooms, but last rooms, no matter how fast you go, they always spawn a set number of bad guys - tank guys included.

Thanks for pointing out the couple things with Mutoid Man. I can't believe I forgot to say that, especially the fact that your standard gun doesn't damage him.

Hi

Here is the midway trophy guide i was working on.

If you find anything useful to add to your guide, then feel free :)

Gold Medalist (Gold)

720: Earn a Gold Medal on any event in Score Attack Mode.

There are 4 events you can do for this, slalom, jump, downhill, and trick. You just need to get a gold medal in one event to pop the trophy, personally the easiest to do are downhill and trick, as the game is really too unresponsive to do slalom very well. I got the trophy on trick by just getting some speed up and using circle and left stick to pull off 800 point jumps, but if you want to try slalom instead, make sure the second you see each turn, you head straight for it rather than skating to each corner and trying to do a 90 degree turn, otherwise you will fall on your knees and not make gold

Get Freaky (Silver)

APB: Take down Freddy Freak in Score Attack Mode.

Freddy doesn't appear until Day 3. From the main menu move the left stick to select day 3, drive up and left until you reach a railway line, soon after you will reach a bar with a flowery pink van in it, this is Freddys van, slow down to allow freddy to get in front, then drive next to him and run him off the road to arrest him (ALWAYS HAVE YOUR SIREN GOING), then turn around and head back to the police station and drop him off in the starred parking space outside (same spot as you start in).

All-Star (Gold)

Arch Rivals: Score at least 6 consecutive points in Score Attack Mode.

Pretty easy for a gold trophy to be honest, play a few minutes to get associated with the controls, then this should be pretty easy, either go for 3 point shots or two point baskets until you have 6 points in a row. Briefly holding circle will allow you to punch (really just a shove) the other team allowing you to regain control of the ball, also if they are shooting for a hoop press x under the basket to jump and block the ball.

Clean-Up (Bronze)

Bubbles: Sweep up a big bug in Score Attack Mode.

In each level there are small granny icons that appear to be sweeping (they have points on them), Pick one up to gain the broom ability. Grow your bubble until it has a smiley face, eventually a big ant will appear (bigger than the usual ones), all you have to do is "walk" into it with the side of your bubble that has the brush sticking out, the trophy will pop a couple of seconds later.

True Champion (Silver)

Championship Sprint: Get first place in 3 consecutive races in Score Attack Mode.

Due to the awful controls in this game, this trophy is quite difficult and may take some practise, for this trophy you need to win (come 1st) for 3 races in a row. there are 2 easy tracks to select at the start, personally i found i did better on the top right easy track, rather than the top middle easy track. Win that (easily) and then the game gives you more tracks to race, these aren't so easy (especially track 3), after some practise you should get it, depending on skill could take half an hour to a couple of hours. Also there are shortcuts on each track, some obvious, some hidden (through barricades etc) use these to your advantage

They Need a Hero (Bronze)

Defender: Save 3 astronauts in Score Attack Mode.

This trophy has an awful description, to save the astronauts it has to be 3 in the same game saved with your ship, if you shoot the alien while the astronaut is close enough to land himself, it won't count when he gets saved.

Doesn't Need Food Badly (Silver)

Gauntlet: Reach Level 8 in Score Attack Mode.

In level 1 there is a secret warp zone that takes you straight to level 8 which will pop the trophy. I used the wizard as he moves and fires faster, but use what you are comfortable with. What you need to do is, when you collect the first key, don't use the exit to the left, instead go through the door on the right, kill all the ghosts and destroy the bone piles so the ghosts don't respawn, then pick up the 2nd key (and turkey) and open the silver gate above. BE READY TO RUN... there are lots of ghosts behind this door so run all the way back to the first exit as there is a narrow gap which will funnel them into a more manageable pattern. Kill them all and run as fast as you can to the top right (where you just ran from) right in the top right corner is the warp zone to level 8.

Survivor (Bronze)

Gauntlet II: Reach Level 7 in Score Attack Mode.

Like with Gauntlet 1, there is a warp to levle 6 in the first level if you explore, use the warrior this time as you need the health, fight your way to the level 6 warp (DO NOT STEP ON THE LAST BLUE FLASHING TILE), but do get the meat and jug for food.

In level 6 all walls are invisible (lucky you), the general direction you want to head is up and left, down and left, defeat the ghosts and grunts and activate the tile, then go as far right as you can and down, defeat all the enemies and keep trying to move right and down until you get to the bottom and move across, then head to the top right corner, avoiding the acid puddles, you can't kill them so just run and avoid, and hit the exit, the trophy pops almost immediately after starting level 7

Pterrific! (Silver)

Joust: Defeat a Pterodactyl in Score Attack Mode.

Pterodactyls appear when you spend too long in a level, the only way to kill one is to position your lance directly with the mouth of the pterodactyl.

I found the easiest way to do it was kill every enemy apart from one, then slowly run ahead of him along the bottom of the level, changing direction if he does, once the pterodactyl appears, keep running along the bottom until he flies down to your level, then just run into his face killing him, the trophy will pop 2-3 seconds later

Long Live the Bird (Silver)

Joust 2: Reach Wave 5 in Score Attack Mode.

As the description states, simply survive to wave 5, to win a joust you need to be positioned higher than your opponent.

High Roller (Bronze)

Marble Madness: Defeat the beginner race within 15 seconds in Score Attack Mode.

Again, as the description says, just beat the beginner race (first level you play) within 15 seconds, usually the same race is chosen, with a 60 second limit, beat it with 46 seconds or more left on the clock

First Rule of Pit Fighting (Silver)

Pit Fighter: Defeat 3 consecutive opponents in Score Attack Mode.

Ok for this i chose Buzz as he has Power as his bonus. You actually have to win 4 fights in a row, because inbetween match 2 and 3 there is a grudge match that you also have to win against yourself. The matches are pretty simple, just punch and kick your opponent repeatedly, one of the easiest trophies in the game, won't give you any trouble.

Monstrous (Silver)

Rampage: Defeat 3 consecutive cities in Score Attack Mode.

Complete 3 cities in a row, try to jump and grab other buildings wherever possible, if you can finish level 1 with full health you are in a good position, also on tall buildings, on the way up try and eat the soldiers, then hold diagonal down and mash punch, that usually fully destroys a building. Once the dust explosion starts at the bottom of a building, jump to another, don't waste time and health damaging a building that is already falling down

Target Practice (Bronze)

Rampart: Defeat the first 3 ships in the first level in one battle in Score Attack Mode.

The easiest trophy in the game, choose a castle near the sea, place 3 cannons near the sea in the castle, and mash x when the first 3 ships appear, once they are destroyed (about 5 seconds) the trophy will pop

Family Man (Bronze)

Robotron: 2084: Rescue 7 family members without losing a life in Score Attack Mode.

A very difficult trophy (especially for a bronze), basically run around and shoot robots, one of the first twin stick shooters i believe.

Try not to kill every robot before you collect all the family members in a stage or it's a wasted member (stop sniggering children). on level 2 and 3 try to avoid shooting the indestructable robots (Green square bodies), as shooting them will just push them, and can push them into family members you are trying to save. Collect 7 without dying for the trophy to pop.

Savior (Silver)

Satan's Hollow: Defeat Satan in Score Attack Mode.

For this one you need to kill enemies to get bridge pieces (shown on the bottom left), when a bridge piece shows up you need to go to it, then bring it over to the right hand side, rinse and repeat this by killing enemies until the bridge completely covers the fire to your right (bottom of the mountain), then keep moving right and go over the bridge, this will take you to a secret part on the right of the castle, where a red demon will appear in the sky, this is satan, kill him to pop the trophy. Don't for confused by a large devil face that appears on the left of the castle sometimes and shoots fire at you, that is NOT satan.

You Hunger (Silver)

Sinistar: Defeat Sinistar in Score Attack Mode.

Reality Show-Off (Gold)

Smash TV: Defeat the first level in Score Attack Mode.

Score Hunter (Bronze)

Spy Hunter: Break 10,000 points in Score Attack Mode.

Just get over 10,000 points, your score goes up by driving, i didn't notice much increase when i shot things, so just keep driving and trying to avoid other cars. I tried to stick in low gear as hi-gear goes too fast and you just hit a car and explode, should come pretty easy, just be careful of the cars with extending spikes from their wheels

Saint (Silver)

Spy Hunter II: Play the game for 15 consecutive minutes in Score Attack Mode.

Just play for 15 minutes, doesn't matter if you die, just keep playing. After 15 mins the trophy will pop, it is IMPORTANT you don't quit out of the game back to the main game selection menu, even if you go back into spy hunter II straight away, it will reset your 15 minutes

They Need a Hero... Again (Bronze)

Defender II: Save 3 astronauts in Score Attack Mode.

Same as defender, just rescue 3 astronauts, this isn't cumulative, but it can be achieved in the same game (you get 3 lives)

X-Treme Off-Road (Silver)

Super Off Road: Get first place in 3 consecutive races in Score Attack Mode.

Actually incredibly easy, win 3 races in a row, use nitro on straights to get in the lead, and then it's not hard to stay there, pick up more nitros and money while racing to buy better upgrades in the menus, the courses rarely get harder as you progress.

Superior Sprint (Silver)

Super Sprint: Get first place in 3 consecutive races in Score Attack Mode.

Tap that Glass (Bronze)

Root Beer Tapper: Clear 25 customers without dropping a glass in Score Attack Mode.

Serve 25 customers without breaking a glass, hold down x to fill a glass and release to slide it over a counter to each customer, they are served once they go off screen, make sure not to let any empties hit the ground though, I'm not sure if failing the mini game inbetween levels causes this to reset or not

Ride the Wave (Silver)

Toobin': Complete Colorado without sinking in Score Attack Mode.

Complete the first level without sinking. DO NOT use the warp zone to level 2 (Yukon) as this won't count for the trophy. Once you reach the drainage sewer section (the music and surroundings will change) that is the end of the colorado section (also the blue title at the top of the screen in the centre will change from Colorado to Argentum).

The only tips i can give are, try to kill off the other play as soon as possible, this will stop him bumping you into obstacles, and slow down if needed for trees falling in front of you.

Total Warpage (Bronze)

Total Carnage: Use a shortcut in Score Attack Mode.

For this, go up 2 or 3 screens, and there will be a spinning purple and white circle, with a sign next to it saying "short cut", just walk into it, the trophy will pop on the next screen

Great Coaching (Silver)

Tournament Cyberball 2072: Score at least 12 consecutive points in Score Attack Mode.

Get 12 points in a row, sounds hard but a touchdown gives you 6 points. Once you get a touchdown and a conversion, you will have to defend, just try and stop the other team scoring by running at them as fast as you can, and eventually the ball time will run out, it runs down quicker when giving a formation to your team so use that to your advantage, then when you are back on offence, try to do a formation that passes to the far outer side of the field and just go straight unless another player comes near you, then weave so you don't get hit.

I got this on my 2nd attempt and have barely any knowledge of american football.

On Base (Bronze)

Vindicators Part II: Defeat the first base in Score Attack Mode.

Worrior (Gold)

Wizard of Wor: Get 10,000 points and 3x your opponent's score in Score Attack Mode.

A really easy gold, kill as many enemies as you can, then keep killing your enemy competitor, that will net you 7000 points to his 300, then keep playing until you hit 10,000, won't take long, especially as once you kill wor you go to a double points dungeon

Not Afraid (Silver)

Xenophobe: Survive the first level in Score Attack Mode.

Go from the teleporter room, left or right killing as much as you can until you reach the teleporter room again, once there teleport out, the trophy will pop almost immediately

Third-Person Shooter (Silver)

Xybots: Survive 3 levels without dying in Score Attack Mode.

Survive 3 levels in a row without dying, just keep moving side to side to dodge alien "bullets", try to take the first exit warp you come to, as they make the next level easier, if you take the 2nd or hidden warp you will be on a much more difficult level. Trophy will pop almost instantly when you enter the shop after level 3

Excellent guide! Nice work.

I really needed that tip for Spy Hunter II. What a crap game that is.

I just wanted to add that on

Tournament Cyberball 2072:

Score at least 12 consecutive points in Score Attack Mode.

You can score a touchdown in one game, get a Game Over, then start a new game and score your first touchdown to have it will count for 12 consecutive points.

I was very surpised when expecting to have to score another 6 points •CHIME!• :)

I actually got the Super Smash TV trophy on the first try and I haven't even played it since the SNES version. It was nice after expecting to have much frustration. Unfortunately I'm having the frustration with 720! For some reason I just can't get the gold.

Thanks again for the great guide!

Hoping for a Midway 2 Collection with Marble Madness 2, Hard Drivin', STUN Runner, Moon Patrol, Road Blasters, and more. :)

Thanks for the kind words! I'm hoping for a sequel, too. I really enjoyed the majority of this collection.

Tried out your Cyberball tip on a separate account and you're right! Nice find. I added it to the guide and credited you for it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention - it will definitely help for those who may struggle with this (wish I'd known - I suck at this game).

GREAT GUIDE!

Reality Show-Off

Smash TV: Defeat the first level in Score Attack Mode.

there is something I would like to add about this crazy hard trophy. If you score 500,000 points BEFORE you die, you can press X BEFORE it says GAME OVER and you get an extra 7 LIVES!!!.

With this glitch I was able to get the final trophy!

With this glitch I was able to get the final trophy!

I had also read about this in another topic and I had heard about it from some friends over at the sister site. I didn't add this to the guide for several reasons -

Like starcrunch061, I could never get this to work. I tried all different variations of this (rapidly press X right before you die, while you die, right after you die. rapidly press all 4 buttons the same way - all after having more than 500k points. I even tried before getting 500k points) at least 25 times, but it never worked for me.

The people at x360a who I talked to about this, and the responses on their MAO forum about this all stated basically the same thing. This *may* have worked, but it so rarely worked that it wasn't even worth getting to worked up about. Why? If you play relying on this trick possibly working, you get lazy playing the game opening yourself up to die easy - because you think you have this extra continue. It's best to just use my tips (and other people's tips) and just play it as flawlessly as you can.

Now, I'm not saying don't try this. If you see you are almost done, try it out. What's the worst that happens? You are going to have a game over anyways. So, if anyone wants to try it out, GO FOR IT! But with how rare it has been said to work, with no video confirmation and with the fact that I have never had it work that's why I'm keeping it out of the guide.

Thanks for bringing it up, though. And thanks for the kind words!
