Asphyx1ateD
Hi guys, I said in another thread I'd be making a series of videos detailing some of my methods for a "fast" Big Boss run. Most tutorials insult the viewer's ability imo, by making you wait for ages in prone or whatever. My walkthroughs are more geared to getting a nice, respectable time, but most of the techniques aren't THAT difficult to pull off. I'll be editing this first post every time I post up a new video. Any feedback appreciated! http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g301/PhantoM_XI/Other/MGS4BigBossVideowalkthroughheader.jpg This is the time I achieve during this run. You'll be able to achieve a similar time (or possibly even better, given some of the silly mistakes I make) if you follow this walkthrough properly! [spoiler=Videos] Introduction Part 0 is the "Preparation" video, where I cover equipment you will need (and that I myself use) during this walkthrough. I also discuss some techniques and settings that you'll see throughout the series. Asphyx1ateD
Very good video guides! Also, I love the accent, simply fantastic lol, thanks I guess just a fairly neutral English accent that speaks very quickly at times! Nice videos I'll be subbing your channel Cheers for the sub mate -- Just a quick update guys. I've played and recorded the entirety of Act 2 in the last couple of hours (on and off, watched some football and ate, etc.) and have some pretty nice stuff to showcase. I have work in a few hours but once I'm home I'll try and get it rendered and record commentary to get something uploaded. Act 2 will be in 2 parts again. I'll hopefully have at least act 2, part 1 uploaded by tomorrow evening at the latest.
BeatEM
awesome video man... got a question, how/what did you do to make the rat team skip the conversation/shoot-out stand in the 2nd video at around time 3:15?
Asphyx1ateD
awesome video man... got a question, how/what did you do to make the rat team skip the conversation/shoot-out stand in the 2nd video at around time 3:15? I guess I didn't explain it too well in the video, my bad. I talk very quickly and I recorded it all in one take You wait until they line up as I do, and as they start to move in unison just punch Meryl/Akiba in the face once. retnuh
This is proving to be super helpful so far. It's tricky using some of these tips/ paths at first, but I figure if I can save enough time in the first 2 acts, that'll give me more wiggle room later. Thanks a lot for this
kidalot
Want to hear something funny.. I can't even replicate the 1st part of this video, where alert status count. It's after blowing up the barrel, I cqc one of the soldier the other one on the right keeps spotting me. I don't know, not timing it right? Thanks a lot for this Thanks for the kind words! I'll be recording part 4's commentary tomorrow after work (bit late to do it now as I need to speak a bit louder than I would normally) but I'm making up for it by recording as much of Act 3 as I can before I go to bed Want to hear something funny.. I can't even replicate the 1st part of this video, where alert status count. It's after blowing up the barrel, I cqc one of the soldier the other one on the right keeps spotting me. I don't know, not timing it right? Hmm, I never had an issue to be honest dude, I did it a few times to make sure it was consistent! Are you shooting the barrel when I do? I shoot it quite late to give myself time to CQC and get away. I'd watch the timing carefully and try again
Knob Goblin
The commentary you provided was certainly a nice touch. It's nice to hear the voice behind the video, makes the whole watching experience more 'human'. It feels like I'm watching an actual person playing. The shooting of the explosive barrel at the beginning of Act 1 to distract the PMC troops was ingenious. I never thought that when I was completing my BBE run. Well done mate, appreciate the videos! Thanks a lot man. Appreciate it. Good to see people who have already done Big Boss are getting something from these vids, too. As for progress... just came here to psot an update, too. I've completed and recorded the entirety of Act 3, gameplay wise. Tomorrow I need to do commentary for Act 2, part 2 and then edit/sort out Act 3. I may be able to squeeze it into one video. I'll be showing pretty clearly how to do the Resistance Trick, too, even though there's other videos doing so. Want my series to be a pretty complete package
idloveacupoft
Excellent work mate, I think the videos are great. Perhaps they wouldn't be tailored to an average gamer (as I think you mentioned in a post), but bloody good stuff all the same. keep it up edit: The double shock that you pulled off in Act one before the militia safehouse is ingenious mate. How in god's name did you find out that trick or is it commonly known? Edited September 1, 2012 by idloveacupoft

How in god's name did you find out that trick or is it commonly known? I wouldn't say common but it's something I heard about after I quit speed running. Randomly remembered it lol. A lot of techniques I use are stuff that was came up by a bunch of runners who collaborated. One technique you'll see during the 3rd bike chase phase is something I originally came up with myself (which you'll see used in a few other speed runners' videos ) but a lot of the time techniques I USED to use were variations of other people's ideas. Speed running was a very collaborative process in terms of the creation of strategies and routes. In the end it was all about who could pull it off best... we kept no secrets between us. So yeah, in short, stuff I'm using in the videos is either stuff I remember or stuff I'm literally making up a few mins before the video. The average gamer may struggle to pull some stuff off but I'd hope the average MGS player could manage most of it.

BeatEM
awesome video for the part3 got another question, how come the wave 2, 3 and 4 frogs (before octopus fight) spawn/come down there? during my last bbe run them frogs spawn out at random do you need to crouch/wall hug at that 1 wall there to make them spawn there? I'd say the average MGS player could definitely pull it all off, although a few areas will be a bit hairy. I think the major aid in your videos is you...Your voice I mean Sometimes, as you have pointed out yourself, seeing isn't enough and being told why something happens/works/etc is far more beneficial than just being shown. As far as the collaborating goes...yeah that is great because one person can't come up with all these ideas on their own so it's beneficial to the wider community. Even though I've platinumed the game, I'll check out the rest of your videos anyways and try out some of these things myself
