Introduction

Welcome to Metal Gear Solid 4. It is back. One of the best games in the video game history has finally obtained a trophy patch after nearly 4 years since its release. This is one of the most awaited trophy lists amongst all PS3 games. The game puts you in the role of Solid Snake, who is in his final days while he is trying to finally settle the score with his brother Liquid and defeat the corrupted system off the Patriots. The game is a fountain of memories, as with every cutscene and area, you will find something related to the previous games of the series.

The trophies are not for the faint-hearted. Deceiving as it may seem in the beginning, the platinum trophy actually requires you to collect all 40 badges. This includes the infamous Big Boss emblem, which is said to be obtained only by really skillful players. Getting all the trophies will take approximately 80 hours since you will have to do at least 8 playthroughs. If you are up for the challenge, get yourself ready and dive into the world of this magnificent game.

Missable Trophies

Before I begin with the roadmap, I would like to make a short note regarding the missable trophies. I have posted that there are 18 missable trophies in the overview above. Some of them could and could not be called missable since you will be doing eight playthroughs for this platinum. Since the trophies above can be acquired at a specific part of the story and if you miss them, you will have to do another run, they will be marked as missable. However, technically, you have so many chances to get them, that they can be missed only if you really want to. Additionally, most of the trophies’ progress is transferred across playthroughs supposing you save each time at the same file when you complete a playthrough. The only missable trophy that you should watch out is the Flashback Mania (G) one.

ROADMAP

**NOTE** If you want to enjoy the game, you are advised to aim for an emblem like Centipede for your first run as this emblem requires a more stealthy playthrough. For the sake of trophy hunting, the Chicken emblem has been posted up first. HOWEVER, if you want to aim for your first run to get 0 kills and 0 alerts, you are free to do so as you can also unlock the Bandana and the Stealth Camo which will be invaluable to the next runs. You may also want to approach the game differently anyway. So we will have two paths.

A) Trophy Wise - For veteran players

B) Story Wise - For new players

Roadmap A

Step 1: 1st Playthrough - Chicken, Flashbacks & Misc Trophies

To start with, the trophies are not retroactive, meaning that you will have to start a brand new game to get the trophies. You do not have to delete your old save, but you can't load that one to get trophies on it. You must start your game on a brand new save data created after the patch. Your first playthrough should be the one where you should get off the most time-consuming part of the game. Start the game on Liquid Snake difficulty. The Chicken emblem is your aim here. Among its many requirements, it needs you to have a total play time of 35 hours at least. You are going to take advantage of all these hours and get almost all of the trophies as well as more than half of the emblems. Kill almost every enemy you come across with, run around like a maniac to get easily spotted and die more than 50 times. Even when you complete most of the emblems' requirements, you will probably need a lot of hours to complete 35 hours of playtime. Take advantage of it and let Snake inside a barrel or a box, standing against a wall, prone for a necessary amount of time to get the rest time-related emblems. You can leave your PS3 on overnight or when you leave your house to do this faster. It is also the time that you will see all the cutscenes and enjoy the thrilling story of this game. The cutscenes add a total of 8 hours in your gameplay so it will lessen the pain of this run a bit. Your other aim in this run is to get the Flashback Mania (G) trophy. Finally, apart from the cutscenes, aim to get as many weapons, iPod tracks, defeating the five bosses non-lethally needed for the SUNLIGHT (S) trophy, getting most of the FaceCamos (especially during the Mission Briefings) and photographing the ghosts in Shadow Moses island. You can also get most miscellaneous trophies out of the way in this run.

STEP 2: 2nd Playthrough – Tarantula & Assassin

Now that we got rid of the most boring part and you have remembered the game, it’s time we knock off the remaining emblems. The emblems you will aim is the Assassin and Tarantula one. See the Emblem's Guide on how to get all emblems. Since you got the Chicken emblem in your previous run, you will now have the Corpse Camo needed for the I Just Don’t Fear Death (S) trophy. If you have enough points, you can buy the Tanegashima in Act 5 for half a million points.

Trophies earned in this step:

(S) Divine Wind

(S) I Just Don’t Fear Death

Emblems earned in this step: 24/40

  • Tarantula
  • Assassin

Step 3: 3rd - 6th Playthrough – Getting some easy emblems

This step will be a long one since you will have to play the game four more times to acquire the remaining easy emblems. These are the emblems that all require a different combination of alerts, kills and continues until the end of the game. There’s really no difference in choosing which to get first or last, but the point is that you will have to play four times to get these emblems. In these playthroughs, you should get everything you may have missed, want it to be a specific trophy or weapons and iPod tracks. Finally, at this step you want to stock up on chaff grenades, and make sure you have obtained weapons like the Solar Gun. All of these are extremely important for the next step. Start by getting the Centipede one, if you haven't obtained it already and try to get 0 kills and 0 alerts. This way you will earn the Bandana and the Stealth Camo, two items that are extremely valuable to the next runs and will make them much easier. Make sure to get the rest of the weapons as well.

Trophies earned in this step:

(G) I am THE expert on weapons (Missable)

Emblems earned in this step: 28/40

  • Spider
  • Centipede
  • Leopard
  • Jaguar

STEP 4: 7th Playthrough – Big Boss

For some people obtaining the Big Boss emblem will not be a big problem since they may have achieved it in the past, but for the majority this will be separating them from the platinum trophy. By obtaining the Big Boss Emblem you will also unlock at least 10 more emblems, so that's why all the remaining emblems were posted in this step. There's nothing more to say in this step other than to post a link of my walkthrough for the Big Boss emblem. Do not leave this step for the end. In order to get the Little Gray emblem, you need all 69 weapons. Unless you put some passwords to unlock the weapons, you must get Big Boss first in order to unlock the last four weapons. Little Gray won't unlock in this run because the weapons appear AFTER the emblem's screen. So you need to play the game one more time for that emblem.

STEP 5: 8th Playthrough

The tough part is done so go and get the last two emblems you need. This will be very very easy and it won't take more than 3 hours. When you unlock all the trophies, you will get this prestigious platinum. Conratulations!!

ROADMAP B

STEP 1: 1st Playthrough – Cutscenes and Centipede emblem

To start with, the trophies are not retroactive, meaning that you will have to start a brand new game to get the trophies. You do not have to delete your old save, but you can't load that one to get trophies on it. You must start your game on a brand new save data created after the patch. Your first playthrough should be the one where you should enjoy the game. Start the game on any difficulty you want. It is highly advised that you will see all the cutscenes and enjoy the thrilling story of this game if you haven’t played the game. Your main aim in this run is to get the Flashback Mania (G) trophy. As far as the emblems are concerned, you shouldn’t worry for any of them except the Centipede one. Centipede was chosen, as the requirements for it is more of a stealth run, instead of a shooting one. You want to die 26 times or more to get this emblem out of the way. Don’t worry for the rest emblems as you have plenty more runs to get them all. Finally, apart from the cutscenes, aim to get as many weapons, iPod tracks defeat the five bosses non-lethally needed for the SUNLIGHT (S) trophy, getting most of the FaceCamos and photographing the ghosts in Shadow Moses. You can also get most miscellaneous trophies out of the way in this run but since this is a playthrough to get familiarised with game, you better do them in another playthrough. Also make sure to get Screaming Mantis' two dolls.

(B) Third Sun

(B) Old Sun

(B) That Tune Is His Mind Control Music

(B) Overhead view — just like old times… (Missable)

(B) LIQUID (Missable)

(G) Infinite ammo. (Missable)

(G) Stealth Camouflage (Missable)

Emblems earned in this step: 1/40

  • Centipede

You will most likely get some other emblems in the way but since the playthrough's aim was this emblem alone, only this will be posted in this step.

STEP 2: 2nd Playthrough - Chicken & Misc Trophies

Now that you have completed the game once, you are going to do the most boring part of the game. The Chicken emblem. Among its many requirements, it wants you to have a total play time of 35 hours at least. You are going to take advantage of all these hours and get almost all of the trophies as well as most miscellaneous and combat trophies. Kill almost every enemy you come across with, get easily spotted and die more than 50 times. At this point, you will probably have enough money to buy off some weapons that can only be purchased via the Drebin store. Even when you complete most of the emblems' requirements, you will probably need a lot of hours to complete 35 hours of playtime. Take advantage of it and get the rest time-related emblems. You can leave your PS3 on overnight or when you leave your house to do this faster.

Trophies earned in this step:

(B) You enjoy all the killing, that’s why.

(B) Handle with Caution (Missable)

(B) Hands Up!

(B) Emotion Control

(B) Drum Can Addict

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/4DD.jpg You enjoy all the killing, that’s why. (B)

Killed many enemies in one area, and vomited.

When you kill more than 50 enemies in any act/area, a flashback will occur with Liquid from MGS1 telling Snake that he enjoys all the killing. This will result in Snake vomiting and losing a small part of his psyche. Do this trophy in a playthrough where you aim to get an emblem like Chicken, so there is no need to go out of your way for it. There are a lot of places where you can attempt this trophy, with the best places being the first two Acts. Specifically in Act 2: Solid Sun. When you reach the Vista Mansion area, where a huge bulldozer will go to crash the gate, you will find a lot of PMCs as well as Rebels. This is a good place to get the 50+ kills. If the PMCs aren’t enough, continue killing the rebels too. While the rebels won’t attack you if you let them be, they will shoot you, if you start attacking them. It doesn't matter what type of kills they are as long as you kill the enemies. That said even Stealth kills count for this trophy, although it will be hard to kill that many enemies unnoticed.

I have received some reports that people have killed more than 50 people in an act and didn't get the trophy. For me the flashback popped when I killed 50 people in an act and in the same area. So try killing all of them on one area.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/908.jpg Laughing Octopus Doll (B) (H)

Defeated Laughing Octopus by non-lethal means, and obtained the Laughing Octopus Doll.

Missable Laughing Octopus is the boss you will face during Act 2: Solid Sun. See the spoilers below as it is part of the story.
The encounter will initiate after you have defeated the FROGs Unit that will appear in the laboratory. You must defeat her non-lethally. This means that you must deplete her Psyche bar and not her Health bar. The Psyche bar is the small, thin line below the Health.

As soon as the fight starts, run out of the room and take cover from her machine gun. When she stops shooting, fire at her with the Saiga-12. Using V-Ring will make it non-lethal. Never exit to the outer hallway immediately, as she may jump through one of the windows and deal damage to you. Wait a while and then go to seek her hiding place. Having the Night Vision activated will reveal her immediately as the stealth camo can’t protect her from that. Keep playing safely and follow this strategy to deplete her Psyche.

When the fight with the Beauty starts, head to the bed in the laboratory and you will get the doll.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/1A7.jpg Frog Soldier Doll (B) (H)

Escaped the Haven Troopers in the Middle East by non-lethal means, and obtained the Frog Soldier Doll.

Missable The FROGs Soldier Unit is the boss you will face during Act 1: Liquid Sun. See the spoilers below as it is part of the story.
The encounter will initiate after you have met with the Rat Patrol Team 01 in Advent Palace. You must defeat them non-lethally. This means that you must deplete their Psyche bar and not their Health bar. The Psyche bar is the small, thin line below the Health.

During Act 1: Liquid Sun in the Advent Palace, you will fight the FROG Unit for the first time. These enemies leap all over the place and are very skilled with CQC so be very careful when you approach them. The Mk. II Gun is your best bet for this fight. On lower difficulties, the battle won’t be as hard. When you start the fight, go to the right wall and get non-lethal equipment, especially Stun Grenades and Sleep Gas Mines. From this point, you can run towards the enemy FROGs and knock them out with CQC or simply shoot them with the Mk. II. If they hang from the ceiling and they are pretty high from the ground, they will fall down and their health goes down. Strangely this doesn't count as kill. To be on the safe side, shoot them while not hanging. When you take the first of them out, more will appear. Take them out and quickly go downstairs. Equip a Stun Grenade and get ready to throw it at incoming enemies. Take out the remaining FROGs with the Mk. II gun. When the FROGs jump on the walls, take cover behind the wall before the doorway and take out the FROGs as they show up. When you reach the kitchen, you can throw a Smoke Grenade to stun the enemies for a while. Next, simply go to the bath and wait for the team. When the wall collapses, stun the rest FROGs. After the cutscene, throw a Smoke Grenade where the bulldozer will be and stun the rest.

After the fight, you will find yourself in a garage where you can find the doll.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/45B.jpg Raging Raven Doll (B) (H)

Defeated Raging Raven by non-lethal means, and obtained the Raging Raven Doll.

Missable Raging Raven is the boss you will face during Act 3: Third Sun. See the spoilers below as it is part of the story.
The encounter will initiate after the bike sequence. You must defeat her non-lethally. This means that you must deplete her Psyche bar and not her Health bar. The Psyche bar is the small, thin line below the Health.

This is quite easy but can take a little time. Go to the top floor and fire a bit to the Sliders to make Raven come and glide in the air. Since she stays perfectly still, you can land a few shots on her. Watch out as if you take long enough, she will damage you with her Grenade Launcher. By destroying her Sliders, you will make her angry and when she’s angry, she forgets to reload giving you more time to shoot at her (conversation with Otacon in the codec).

When the fight with the Beauty starts, head to top of the tower to find the doll.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/439.jpg Crying Wolf Doll (B) (H)

Defeated Crying Wolf by non-lethal means, and obtained the Crying Wolf Doll.

Missable Crying Wolf is the boss you will face during Act 4: Twin Suns. See the spoilers below as it is part of the story.
The encounter will initiate when you enter the Snow Field area. You must defeat her non-lethally. This means that you must deplete her Psyche bar and not her Health bar. The Psyche bar is the small, thin line below the Health.

The fight will take fairly long as this is a sniper battle. Always have your Night Vision active to keep searching for her. If you have purchased the Mosin Nagant, the fight will become easier, just avoid using it when there are FROGs nearby. At the beginning, you will find her always at the other side of the map. To find Wolf after that, use Night Vision and search somewhere far from her last place. Aim for the head. You can deplete 1/4 of her Psyche Bar if you get a headshot.

When the fight with the Beauty starts, turn around and you will find the doll behind you.

Defeated Screaming Mantis by non-lethal means, and obtained the Screaming Mantis Doll.

Missable Screaming Mantis is the boss you will face during Act 5: Twin Suns. See the spoilers below as it is part of the story.
The encounter will initiate after dealing with the FROGs inside the ship. You must defeat her non-lethally. This means that you must deplete her Psyche bar and not her Health bar. The Psyche bar is the small, thin line below the Health.

When the fight starts, use your Syringe to make her lose control of you. When she takes control of Meryl, shoot her with the Mosin Nagant or the Mk. II. Next, shoot at the two dolls next to her a few times and grab them before she does. Use the Mantis Doll to take control of her and just move the controller to beat her. Simple. You will see that both her Health and Psyche get reduced, but don't worry the doll will still appear.

When the fight with the Beauty starts, it will be in the north corridor on the lower level of the computer room exactly where you entered the room from.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/1AB.jpg Divine Wind (S)

Caused a “divine wind” using the Tanegashima.

The Tanegashima is a shotgun that looks pretty innocent at first sight. But it’s not. You will see this weapon at the Drebin Store with the ridiculous price of 1,000,000 Drebin Points. Unfortunately, there is no other way to get this weapon but to buy it from there. However, during Act 5: Old Sun, Drebin will put everything on his store on a 50% discount, so this is the best time to buy it for only 500,000 Points. You can also buy the weapon with a 20% on Wednesdays and Sundays at the price of 800,000 if you can’t wait that much. This discount will NOT apply on Act 5. The Tanegashima is not a good weapon as you may have thought because of its price. It has a 33% chance to create a “divine wind” which is like a hurricane, that will clear all enemies from the area and throw down all the items they carried. Note that this can be done only in an outside area. It won’t work inside. Simply use the weapon and hope you create the “divine wind” to unlock the trophy. According to Wolfwood, when you buy the weapon and start a new playthrough, when you get to the part in Act 1 that you find the drum barrel, you have a 100% chance to create a "divine wind". Credits to him for this information.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/A43.jpg Handle with Caution (B) (H)

Broke off the most important part of a statue.

Missable During Act 1 in Middle East, when you head to meet Otacon, you will enter an area called Red Zone. At the beginning of this area, you will see a statue. Climb up there and you will be given the option to press and hold the :triangle: button. Snake will then hide and become a part of the statue grabbing the statue's genital organs!! Leave :triangle: to get out of cover. Continue pressing the :triangle: to enter and exit cover and eventually Snake will break "the most important part of a statue". Watch out as if there is an enemy close and sees you, you will enter the ALERT status. The trophy is listed as missable, but it is only technically one. Since the statue is right at the beginning of the game, you will easily get it if you start a new game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/3AC.jpg Hands Up! (B)

Held an enemy soldier at gunpoint and performed a body check.

When you find a lone soldier, sneak behind him and equip your gun. Once you are fairly close, hold down the :l1: button. This will result in the enemy raising his hands and be at your command. Let the :l1: button and press the :triangle: button to do a frisk/body check. Whenever the Action Button shows up when you search him, press it to get the item. If you press the :triangle: button while Snake has his hands on his crotch, he will knock the soldier out. After you have done this once, the trophy is yours.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/BC7.jpg Flashback Mania (G)

Viewed all flashbacks.

Missable For the most people, this will be one of the most tedious trophies in the game simply, because you will have to watch almost every cutscene to view all the flashbacks. When you view a cutscene, most times an :cross: will appear at the top of the screen, that you have to tap. This will show you some flashbacks from the previous Metal Gear Solid games. The flashbacks that count are those that you have to tap :cross: into. That said, audio and gameplay flashbacks do not count for the trophy. Credits to elevenletters and BIG B0SS for this. This is noted as highly missable because if you miss this trophy, you will have to watch a big part of cutscenes again. When you reach the end of an Act, you will see that you will have a large number of flashbacks. These flashbacks show the number of :cross: you have pressed while viewing them. These are not related to the trophyat all. Below is a compiled list of all the flashbacks I could find: You CAN skip cutscenes when you go for the flashbacks even if the cutscene has a one. In that case, you can view a flashback and once you do, skip the cutscene to the next one. The flashbacks also stack across playthroughs. If you happen to miss one, you will get it on the next one when you view the missed flashback.

ACT 0
1. At the end of Act 0, when Snake is saluting at the graveyard

  2. At the same cutscene as above, when Snake mentions FOXDIE

  3. The third flashback of this cutscene is when Otacon mentions Naomi.

  4. The final flashback of this cutscene is after the helicopter took off and Otacon says “We have found him”, referring to Ocelot.

  3. At the same cutscene as above, when Meryl puts off her mask and reveals herself.

  4. The final flashback for this cutscene is when Akiba gets on his knees because of his stomach problems. Snake asks him if he is ok.

  5. At the cutscene where we first meet Liquid, at the point where his name appears and he is introduced.

  6. Later at the same cutscene, where you are almost unconscious, Naomi will appear with a syringe and inject herself. That's your chance for the flashback.

  8. When you meet with Drebin, you will have multiple flashbacks when seeing the pictures of the B&Bs while he's telling you their names.

  9. Shortly after, when Snake mentions all these bad guys from the first Metal Gear Solid game.

  10. Next in the same cutscene, Drebin will say "Keeps this whole mess in check". This is where the flashback will appear about the Patriots.

  11. When you meet Naomi and she is introduced, she will immediately mention Shadow Moses and the flashback will appear.

  12. After you save the game, when Snake mentions about FOXDIE having killed the AT President and Liquid.

  13. Later in the same cutscene, when Naomi tells you about a new strain of FOXDIE and Snake says "Him!" referring to Drebin.

  14. After you get out of the laboratory, at the cutscene where Snake is looking on the ground to track down Naomi. The flashback appears when he pulls out his knife and try to figure the footprints.

  15. At the cutscene where you enter the city with the van Drebin is driving and get ambushed by Gekkos, when Naomi and Snake hold the monkey hand by hand.

  6. When you meet with Big Mama, after a series of cutscenes, she will shoot and destroy a dwarf Gekko. When she shoots at it, her flashback will appear.

  7. In the same cutscene, when you start to prepare for departure, Big Mama will comment "Nowadays, anyone with a computer can get a combat training". This is when the flashback appears. This is a pretty funny one as it actually shows you footage from the game.

  8. After the bike sequence, when Big Mama is injured. She will pull herself out of the piercing junk and the flashback will appear.

  9. Near the end of the same cutscene, when Snake gives Big Mama a weapon to protect herself, the flashback will appear when she says to him "Promise me".

  10. After defeating Raven and meeting with Big Mama again, when you are about to head off in the sewers, she will have a look at her destroyed bike and that's when the flashback appears.

  9. After beating Vamp, and when Naomi is staying behind and Otacon says "Why does it always end this way?". Truly a magnificent Metal Gear Solid moment.

  10. At the very end of the Act, after you defeat Ray, at the part where Raiden comes to save Snake. From the moment Raiden mentions Rose, start tapping :cross: and do not stop until the cutscene ends. There are many hidden flashbacks here, meaning the :cross: will not appear in the screen. http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/692.jpg SUNLIGHT! (S)

Obtained the Solar Gun.

Missable To obtain the Solar Gun, you need to defeat the FROG Unit in Advent Palace, the Laughing Octopus, the Raging Raven, the Crying Wolf and finally the Screaming Mantis non-lethally. This means that you must deplete their Psyche bar and not their Health bar. The Psyche bar is the small, thin line below the Health. After you defeat them non-lethally, during the fight with their Inner forms, you will need to find a statue of these beauties. The FROG unit is an exception as their statue can be found only after you have defeated them. You will need to complete a playthrough with all 5 statues secured in your inventory in order to unlock the Solar Gun after the credits. You do not have to obtain all the statues in the same playthrough as long as you are saving the same, complete file every time you finish a playthrough. While you will need to defeat all the bosses non-lethally in one playthrough for the Big Boss emblem, it is advised to get this weapon prior to this playthrough as it will be very useful for Boss Extreme difficulty. The dolls can be found in the following locations

  • FROG Unit: Act 1, after the fight in the Advent Palace, you will find yourself in a garage. Look in a corner to your right and you will find it.
  • Laughing Octopus: Act 2, during the Beauty fight, it will be on one of the beds in the laboratory
  • Raging Raven: Act 3, during the Beauty fight, it will be on the highest floor of the tower.
  • Crying Wolf: Act 4, during the Beauty fight, it will be against the wall behind the starting point of the battle.
  • Screaming Mantis: Act 5, during the Beauty fight, it will be in the north corridor on the lower level of the computer room.

Refer to each boss’ respective trophy above for a strategy on how to beat them non-lethally.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/BA1.jpg Infinite ammo. (G) (H)

Obtained the Bandana.

Missable The Bandana is a secret item that when equipped will grant you with infinite ammo as the trophy title says. In order to acquire this item, you will have to complete the game without killing a single person. This is pretty simple as long as you use non-lethal weapons (colored blue in the menus). I advise you to go for this trophy during your run for the Big Boss emblem as you will have to avoid killing anyone to get that emblem. Do not worry as you must not use this item while going for the Big Boss Emblem. Killing Gekkos and the Sliders in the Raging Raven battle do not count as killings as well as defeating the Beasts with lethal weapons. The Beauties DO count as kills though. See the walkthrough at the end of the guide for a run on Boss Extreme. You can alternatively buy it from Drebin for 5,000,000 points but you don’t want to spend that many points there.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/720.jpg Stealth Camouflage (G) (H)

Obtained the Stealth Camouflage.

Missable The Stealth Camouflage is a secret item that when equipped will give you the ultimate cover. It will make you literally invisible. In order to acquire this item, you will have to complete the game without getting in an ALERT status at all. This can be a little tough, so you should take your time while advancing through areas with enemies. I advise you to go for this trophy during your run for the Big Boss emblem as you will have to avoid being seen at all to get that emblem. Do not worry as you must not use this item while going for the Big Boss Emblem. See the walkthrough at the end of the guide for a run on Boss Extreme. You can alternatively buy it from Drebin for 5,000,000 points but you don’t want to spend that many points there.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/91A.jpg Ghost Photography Addict (S)

Snapped at least 5 shots of ghosts on Shadow Moses Island.

Missable When you reach Act 4: Twin Suns, you will be at Shadow Moses Island, the place where the first Metal Gear Solid game took in. If you equip your camera, you will find ghosts standing in specific areas. You can find the Digital Camera during the Mission Briefings of Act 1 until Act 4. You need to control the Mk. II to get it from Sunny’s Desk. At some part during the briefing, you will have a two-windows perspective. You will see "Press Select for help" on the bottom of the screen. Press the :l2: button to switch to 1st Person Full Screen Mode, hit the :triangle: button and then :square: to control the Mk. II. Move it around with the Left Analogue Stick. There are 30 ghosts in total on Shadow Moses but you only need to photograph 5 of them. Note that until you take the picture, you won’t be able to see the ghosts. However, if you have obtained the Sorrow Doll from the battle with Screaming Mantis and started a new playthrough, you will be able to see them before you take the picture. You must have the Doll currently equipped for them to appear though. Thanks to Squ1rr3l-K1ng for the video.

  3. Vulcan Raven: Go to the exit of the canyon going to Nuclear Storage and to your left, you will see some ammo on the ground. This ghost is a little tricky to see because of the mountain, it's a bit more to the left. Hug the mountain wall and start heading towards it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/64A.jpg Can you feel my power now!!!? (S)

Took control of an enemy soldier’s body using the Mantis Doll or Sorrow Doll.

Missable You can acquire these two Dolls during the fight with the Screaming Mantis at Act 5: Old Sun. After you have taken care of the controlled Meryl and the FROGs, shoot the two dolls Mantis has next to her. After a while, she will drop one of the dolls. Grab it quickly before she gets it again. Repeat with the other doll. Now when you go and meet an enemy in a new playthrough, put one of these dolls in your inventory and equip it. The Sorrow Doll has the power to control the dead bodies of the enemy, while the Mantis Doll will make the enemies shake like crazy dropping their items and killing them. Ready one of the dolls with the :l1: button and shoot with :r1: You have an infinite amount of shots, so don’t worry about having to get the dolls again. Once you have hit someone with the Mantis Doll, or a dead body with the Sorrow Doll, you will control them and unlock the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/C68.jpg Emotion Control (B)

Controlled an enemy soldier’s emotions using an Emotive Magazine.

The Emotive Magazines become available for purchase from Drebin’s Store from Act 2 and onwards. These magazines are just like Playboy magazines with the only difference that they feature the Beauty & The Beast Corps. Depending on the Beauty that is on the page, the PMC will have the Beauty’s representative emotion. So they can laugh from Laughing Octopus, rage from Raging Raven, cry from Crying Wolf and scream from Screaming Mantis. Just put down one of these magazines in front of a soldier’s path and when he looks at it, he will keep staring there. Remember that while you are in Alert, the magazines won’t have any effect on the enemies. This also works on Militia, however it doesn't in FROGs. Therefore, you must get this trophy before Act 4 or you will need to get it in a later playthrough.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/33F.jpg Hurt me more! (B)

Shocked an enemy soldier using Mk. II/III.

Shortly after you start the story, you will be able to control the Mk.II and after the beginning of Act 4: Twin Suns, the Mk. III. To use it, hold down the :l2: button and select the Mk. II. Equip it and activate the stealth camo so you can sneak on enemies easier. Once you are close to an enemy, press the :l1: button to aim and then :r1: button to electrocute him and receive the trophy.

The controls of the Mk. II/III are the following:

  • Left Analogue Stick: Move Mk. II/III
  • Right Analogue Stick: Control the Camera
  • :cross: Button: Activate/Deactivate Stealth Camo
  • :l1: Button: Aims/Readies Electric Shock
  • :r1: Button: Electric Shock
  • :triangle: Button: Action Button

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/2B2.jpg Drum Can Addict (B)

Knocked an enemy soldier flying using a Drum Can.

You acquire the Drum Can/Oil Drum during Act 1: Liquid Sun. You can equip it by holding the :l2: button and scrolling to the Drum Can. Once you equip it, Snake will get under it and he will cover himself from the enemies’ eyes. While you are in cover, if you press the :cross: button, Snake will drop the Drum and start rolling. Your goal is to hit an enemy while rolling with it to send him flying. Watch out though, as if you roll for a long period of time, Snake will stop and vomit from dizziness. This trophy can be done in many parts of the story with the best being right after you acquire the Drum.

Found a crop circle and heard a mysterious voice.

Missable During Act 2, after the fight with the Laughing Beauty, while searching for Naomi, you will come across a river. Go left before crossing it and you will soon find yourself in a strange area with circles in the grass. You will hear a flashback from Roy Campbell from Metal Gear Solid 2.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/515/B93.jpg Are you an Otaku too? (S)

Viewed all model posters.

Missable There are 4 posters in total. During Act 2: Solid Sun, while you are in the Vista mansion, you will find two posters of Akina Minami. You have to look at them with the :l1: button and :triangle: in 1st Person View and Snake will say something in the words of “It’s Akina!” resulting in raising up his Psyche. One of them can be found at the second floor in the bedroom. You have to look all the way up to the ceiling to see it. At the first floor you will find two portraits as you go towards the stairs. The ones you need is where the walls become a bit narrow. Shoot the bigger one and you will reveal another poster. Continuing in Act 3: two more Akina posters can be found. The first one is in Midtown S Sector. This is a little tricky to find. From the point you start, continue following the Resistance member until you reach the park. From there, go to the right and continue following the park’s wall until you reach the north east part of it. Then you will see the poster behind a series of columns to the right. The other one is in Midtown Central Sector near the bridge. You need to climb the stairs to get up the bridge. The poster will be at one end of the bridge. Note that Snake MUST say something in the lines of “Akina”. If he doesn’t, you haven’t viewed the poster and you will miss the trophy.

Got kissed by Ocelot during the final battle.

Missable This trophy can be acquired during the third phase of the final battle with Ocelot. When the Snake Eater track starts playing, you will know that you are in the right phase. Ocelot will at some times grab Snake and perform a headlock at him. You will have to move the left analogue stick to escape, however in order to get the trophy, simply do not do anything. Ocelot will kiss Snake and you will get the trophy.

Played Oishii Two-han Seikatsu and made one of the BB Corps dance.

First of all you don’t have to worry about the certain track, as you start the game with it. In total there will be four Beauty & Beast Corps fights, one in each Act starting from Act 2. When you have fought and defeated their Beast forms, you will have to fight their Beauty forms. During one of these battles, keep running and avoid the Beauty without taking her Psyche or Health out. After three minutes, you will see that the background is disappearing and there is just a white color everywhere. At this point, equip your iPod® by using the :l2: button and scrolling to that item and then start the track Oishii Two-han Seikatsu. When you return to gameplay, you will see that the Beauty is dancing. Shortly after, the trophy will unlock.

Used overhead view on Shadow Moses Island.

Missable This trophy can be acquired during Act 4: Twin Suns. In this Act you will return to Shadow Moses Island, the place where the very first Metal Gear Solid game took place in. When you reach the base and the helipad, you can choose to change the camera view to overhead by moving the camera with the right analogue stick over Snake’s head. With this view, start moving around a bit. This will result in Snake getting all nostalgic about the past and you unlocking a new trophy.

EMBLEM GUIDE

You can check your progress of the emblems during Mission Briefings. Simply go and save the game at a checkpoint and quit to the main menu. Go to Mission Briefing and choose any you like but the first one. When you control the Mk. II, if you haven't chosen the fullscreen you will be able to see the stats and the progress of the various emblems. The numbers next to the emblems are the number with which they appear in the ending stats screen in the game.

1st Playthrough

#39 Puma: You need to finish the game with more than 75 Alerts, more than 250 kills and more than 25 continues. This will be obtained at the same time with Chicken, so you don't need to worry about that.

#40 Chicken: The most hated emblem, you have to finish the game eith more than 150 Alerts, over 500 kills, over 50 continues, use over 50 recovery items and over 35 hours.

Follow this Chicken Walkthrough to help you with the emblems in this run.

Time-related emblems

#18 Tortoise: For this one you have to equip your Drum Barrel/C Box for one hour in total. When you acquire this item, go to a safe place and hold the :l2: button to show the Items menu. You must put it there from the Items category in the :start: menu. You can leave the game running for one hour and do something else until 1 hour is accumulated.

#21 Gecko: For this one you have to stand against the wall for one hour in total. Go near a wall and press the :triangle: You can leave the game running for one hour and do something else until 1 hour is accumulated. Can also be combined with Lobster emblem.

#24 Inch Worm: For this one you have to crawl on the ground for one hour in total. Hold :cross: and you will go prone. Do this in a safe location. You can leave the game running for one hour and do something else until 1 hour is accumulated.

To get a combat high you need to fire a gun 100 times in under a minute while in Alert Status (I suggest using one of the large clip automatic machine guns). When you get it, your Life Bar starts flashing and above that, it says Combat High. Do this 9 more times.

#30 Crocodile: You need a total of 400 kills to get that one off.

Items emblems

#26 Hyena: Pick up 400 dropped weapons to unlock this emblem. You should kill a lot of enemies and pick their weapons. This should be done in your Chicken run as you will have to kill more than 500 enemies.

Militia-related emblems

#14 Hawk: Here you need to be admired by 25 or more soldiers. You need to get a praise from them. To get a praise from the Militia/Rebel, you need to shoot an enemy PMC while they are close to you. If done correctly, you will hear a “Nice” or something along these lines.

Alert-related emblems

#29 Cow: For this, you must complete the game with having 100+ Alerts. This will obtained during your Chicken run so you won't have to worry about it.

#20 Bee: You will have to use the Syringe on 50 enemies. Equip the Syringe in your Items menu, CQC grab an enemy with :r1: and then with the Syringe equipped, press :triangle: It can be done on the same enemy.

2nd Playthrough

Chicken Walkthrough

Emblems Aimed for: 22

This is a small walkthrough mentioning how to get through your Chicken Run. This emblem is easily the most hated especially because of its time limit of 35 hours of play time at least. I will try to provide here the best way to navigate through this run. A few general notes first

NOTES

  • Liquid Easy is your difficulty. Do not put a high difficulty just so you will be able to die easily. You want this run to be a piece of cake when it comes to kills. However, feel free to play on a higher difficulty if you really want tol.

  • Check your progress. During Mission Briefings, wait until the parts where you can control the Mk. II and then the stats will start appearing in the middle of the screen, scrolling their way from right to left. If you don't have a good memory, you better jot them all down so you know how to proceed later.

  • Save often. This is very important. As I was going for my chicken run, after I left my PS3 open for 6 hours, I went to save and shortly after I did, my town got a blackout. What I mean is that you never know what is going to happen, so make sure to save your progress. Always go to a checkpoint and save your game then.

  • Cutscenes. Don't skip them. The game has a huge amount of them and their length is enormous. These can easily add a total of 8 hours to your playthrough making them very good when you need to relax while playing the game.

  • Pausing the game DOES work on your total play time. However, it is advised to leave the game without the menu on a safe area to work on some emblems.

  • Lethal weapons are your friends. Avoid all weapons that are blue (non-lethal). Keep killing every enemy you meet, no matter the way (silent kill, guns blazing)

Now on to the emblems. You will be aiming for these two emblems

#39 Puma: You need to finish the game with more than 75 Alerts, more than 250 kills and more than 25 continues.

#40 Chicken: You have to finish the game eith more than 150 Alerts, over 500 kills, over 50 continues, use over 50 recovery items and over 35 hours.

The Puma one will be obtained as you go for the Chicken. You need not worry about that.

ACT 1

At the beginning, you want to work on some stats like the kills, the alerts but most importantly the Militia-related ones. You can fight alongside with Rebels/Militia until Act 2. After this, you won't have another chance to fight with them, rendering these two emblems missed.

There will be a lot of parts where you will stop to grind starting from this

Middle East Red Zone

Here you will spend a huge time of your grinding. Staying near the exit to the previous area is advised, so when you want to save your progress, you will backtrack and reach a checkpoint. There are a ton of emblems, you want to work here for. Let's start with the Time Emblems

You can leave the game running for one hour and do something else until 1 hour is accumulated.

#25 Lobster: For this one you have to stay in crouch position for two and a half hours in total. Go at the safe place and press the :cross: while standing. You can leave the game running for two and a half hours and do something else until the necessary time is accumulated. Can also be combined with Gecko emblem.

Time needed for these: 3 & 1/2 hours.

It is advised to save every couple of hours. Start knocking these out right now, so you won't have to do it at a later part of the game. Start by crouching while standing against the wall, then going prone.

When you are done with them save your game. Re-enter the area and go up the stairs to your left. Continue a bit forward and you shall find a lone soldier. This is the part where you want to start farming a few alerts. Don't over do it though and lose your time as you will get way too many alerts through the course of the game. You should let an enemy see you and when the alert starts, knock him off with CQC. That's one alert down.

After you have toyed with the soldier, you should now knock the miscellaneous emblems

#19 Rabbit: For this emblem, simply read over 100 pages of Playboy magazines. To do this get a Playboy and equip it. Press hold the :l1: button and then the :r1: Then you will need to tap :circle: to scroll through the pages. It can be done with one Playboy magazine. Press :triangle: for a First Person View.

#22 Scarab: This is another tiring emblem. It requires that you perform 100 side rolls when you are prone. To do this hold down the :l1: button without any weapon equipped. Then move the left analogue stick to left or right and press the :cross: button. One down, 99 more to go.

#23 Frog: Here you have to roll forward 200 times. You can do this by running forward and then press the :cross: button.

I can't stress it enough, these will be very very boring, but luckily they don't last for more than 30 minutes. Use the top floor in this area to do your thing.

Right now is also the time to work up on the CQC related emblems

#09 Bear: This will be the final part the Gibbon-Bee-Bear combination. After you grab an enemy and inject him, now push :r1: to choke them. You need to choke 100 enemies for this emblem. No need to kill the enemy just knock him unconscious. It can be done on the same enemy.

#16 Ant: You need to search 50 enemies to get items like in the Hands Up trophy. Do this to 50 enemies in total. It can be done on the same enemy.

#17 Gibbon: You must perform 50 or more Hold-ups. Sneak up behind an enemy and aim at them by holding the :l1: button. It can be done on the same enemy.

These emblems are trouble basically because you can't track their progress unless you count them yourself. The whole idea is this. Sneak up on an enemy and target him on his back with a weapon. This will put him in Hold mode (Gibbon). The follow with a search on his body by pressing :triangle: (Ant). Make sure not to press :triangle: on the last part, because you will knock him out. If you do knock him out, crouch on top of him and press the :triangle: to wake him up. After the search, grab him with the :r1: button and then hold it again to choke him (Bear). Wake him up and repeat the process.

If you exit and re-enter the area, the soldiers will respawn giving you more options to kill.

When you finally continue with meeting Otacon, the Militia will first appear. This is the time to work on their emblems

#13 Blue Bird: For this one, you will have to give to the Militia/Rebels 50 recovery items such as Ration, Regain, Noodles. This is also how you will acquire the iPod songs from them.

#14 Hawk: Here you need to be admired by 25 or more soldiers. You need to get a praise from them. To get a praise from the Militia/Rebel, you need to shoot an enemy PMC while they are close to you. If done correctly, you will hear a “Nice” or something along these lines.

These are highly missable. When you see the Militia, offer them all your recovery items by going near them and pressing the :triangle: button. Fight next to them against the PMCs. The Hawk one will come naturally. For the Blue Bird up until Act 2, don't forget to give them recovery items. Sometimes, they will give you recovery items as well, which you can give them back again. These emblems cannot be tracked, so make sure you count them yourself especially the Blue Bird one.

Middle East Downtown

This is the first big place to start up farming on kills since the enemies infinitely spawn on you. It would also be good to work up on some other emblems. As soon as you enter the area, go for the last easy Time Emblem.

After you get rid of that, let's start getting the kills. You can now work on getting some Headshots as well as some Combat Highs

#10 Eagle: For the Eagle emblem, you will need to get 150 Headshots. You should this in your Chicken run as you will have to kill more than 500 enemies.

#27 Hog: You need to get 10 or more combat highs for this. To get a combat high you need to fire a gun 100 times in under a minute while in Alert status (I suggest using one of the large clip automatic machine guns) and when you get it, your Life Bar starts flashing and above that, it says Combat High. Do this 9 more times.

At the end of this area, enemies will infinitely respawn. Use that to your advantage. Also don't forget to pick up all the weapons you see lying down for this emblem

#26 Hyena: Pick up 400 dropped weapons to unlock this emblem. You should kill a lot of enemies and pick their weapons.

One can work a lot in this area, if he wishes to get rid of certain emblems. But there are more chances in the future as well.

The rest of Act 1 offers two infinite enemies spawn location. They are located in

Crescent Meridian

Video by Asphyx1at3D

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKt_7_nyahk]MGS4 - Farming kills and alerts for "Chicken" embem in Act 1 - YouTube[/ame]

and in

Middle East / Millenium Park

Inside the camp, exactly at the exit point, you will find that enemies will keep coming from there. These are great places to farm kills, Hold-Ups, Alerts, CQC Kills, Headshots and Combat Highs.

ACT 2:

Start by saving the Militia/Rebels. This is the last Act you will be able to get the Militia emblems. For the whole Act up until the boss fight, all the areas offer chances to work on all the emblems.

As soon as you finish the battle with Octopus. Start using the Syringe for the Bee emblem.

#20 Bee: You will have to use the Syringe on 50 enemies. Equip the Syringe in your Items menu, CQC grab an enemy with :r1: and then with the Syringe equipped, press :triangle:

Since this will probably be your first run, you will get the Syringe now and you should start using it as you go to find Naomi. There are plenty of enemies here to work for. From this point and on start using Recovery Items on you since there will be no more Militia in the game

#28 Pig: This emblem requires you to use 50 recovery items in one playthrough. As recovery items count the Rations, Noodles, Regains.

Marketplace

The Gekkos here offer a good place for some early Deaths/Continues, although there are better places in the next Acts for this. Still this needs to be mentioned.

ACT 3:

This Act doesn't have many enemies to kill and go crazy, but it still gives you a great opportunity to get some kills via Headshots or by CQC Chokes. You can keep exiting and re-entering the areas to respawn the enemies and kill them again. During the bike sequence, use only lethal weapons. Here you will most likely get

#30 Crocodile: You need a total of 400 kills to get that one off.

During the Raging Raven boss battle, you will find a great way to farm Continues. Jump out the window Raging Raven shoots opposite of Snake from where he's facing, hang on the ledge and let go (credits to Mr. Marble). Repeat as many times as you want to.

ACT 4:

The enemies are gone here except the boss battle. There are only Gekkos. The only things you can work here for are the Continues, Alerts, Recovery Items and Time. You may want to find a safe place and let the PS3 run for a few hours. Should you need any more Alerts and Continues this is the place to do it. Keep using any Recovery Items you acquire. This is probably the act that you will acquire

#31 Giant Panda: Simply spend 30 hours of playtime in one playthrough. You can simply leave the PS3 running overnight.

#29 Cow: For this, you must complete the game with having 100+ Alerts..

After the conveyort belt, at the

Underground Base

you will find two holes once you exit the vent shaft. Drop down there for an immediate death. Since these two traps are very close to the checkpoint, it makes them a good place to farm continues/deaths.

ACT 5:

This is the last Act and the last place to everything that you need. The first area has a lot of enemies to kill. You can get alerts and kills, then die to get continues. Should you need anything related to the emblems, this is the time to do it. You will only have a few enemies later but you will not be able to farm there.

During the Screaming Mantis fight, you can shoot at Meryl and Akiba so you can lose immediately. This is the last great spot to farm continues. You can also aim for the head and it will also count towards the Eagle emblem (credits to darthxenu)

By following this mini-walkthrough, you will probably get all (or in the worst occasion most) of the emblems related to this run. Should you miss anything, don't worry as there are plenty more playthroughs left until the platinum. The ones that you should not miss to save some time, are the time-related emblems and of course the Chicken one.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots: Big Boss Emblem (BBE) Walkthrough

Big thanks to Snake_Eater_1

This guide is intended for those looking to get the "Big Boss" emblem. It should be noted that this emblem is the most difficult to achieve. Look at the link below for a video walkthrough by Asphyx1ateD

Big Boss Video Walkthrough

Requirements

- Finish the game playing on the hardest difficulty (The Boss Extreme)

- Finish the game in under 5 hours (codec sequences, cutscenes, pause menu, count towards total)

- Without raising any alert ("Caution" does not count)

- Do not use continues.

- Do not use healing items (Rations, Regains and Noodles.)

- Do not kill anyone (Tanks and Gekkos do not count as kills)

- Do not use special items (stealth camouflage or bandana)

Recommendations:

-Save your game after every area. This will help a lot.

-Unequip Rations from your Items menu. If you get hurt, there is a chance Snake will automatically use one.

-OctoCamo and FaceCamo will give you a higher level of camouflage.

-Chaff Grenades: They are very necessary especially in Act 4, Shadow Moses. I recommend you have saved some from previous runs.

-Solar Gun: If you already got this gun in past difficulties, it will be quite useful in this difficulty for these reasons:

A. Does not use ammunition and in the difficulty Boss Extreme, you cannot buy anesthetic ammunition.

B. Very useful in certain fights (In the advent palace when you fight against the frogs, in Outer Haven before the fight with Screaming Mantis etc.)

C. Vamp goes down with one fully charged shot from it.

D. In the motorcycle chase with EVA, very efficient because if you use the Mk. II, it takes too long to reload.

-Ammunition tranquilizers: Make sure you to use smartly your anestheatic ammunition. Remember that at this level of difficulty, you cannot buy this ammo.

-Uniform Militia (Middle East): This uniform helps a lot in the Militia SafeHouse area.

-Uniform Militia (South America): As this uniform above, it helps to go unnoticed by the Rebels in South America. If you already possess it, it will be much easier to pass the first stage of Act 2.

- If you want to regain life, forward the date of your PS3. For each day, Old Snake recovers 25% of his life.

- Corpse Camo: If you have this camouflage, you can pretend you're dead. You can use this ability when a soldier closes to you because he has heard or seen you. Go prone and hold :triangle: The soldier will think you're dead and walk away.

- If you do not finish Act 1 in an hour or so, I recommend you reboot and start all over new. Mainly 1 hour per Act is the maximum needed.

- All scenes should be skipped and won't be mentioned in the guide.

When you go down the stairs throw a stun grenade pass the blocked passageway. Once everyone is down, plant a Sleeping Gas Mine to the stairs. Continue to the kitchen. The team can get a lot of work done so just help them with the Solar Gun. Once on the lower floor, go to the bathroom and wait for the team. Wake up Akiba and shoot the remaining FROGs. When the bulldozer enters, respond by throwing Stun Grenades. Remember NO LETHAL WEAPONS.

Follow the path that is in the map until you reach some boxes, then wait a moment until you can't detect any soldier and head to the section where there are some tents. Wait until you can't be detected by any soldier and enter the door that is indicated on the map.

Power Station

Follow the path until Raiden warns you that there's an ambush ahead down. Protect yourself to the far left area under a rock, go prone and follow the path of dirt following the grass that is in front of the PMCs. Follow the path carefully until you reach the left side wall of the station. Get up and follow it until you see the Drebin's vehicle.

Go to the wall that is in front of you, go prone and camouflage in the shade, until the 2 PMCs pass you. Once they have, crawl and follow the path indicated on the map. A few meters ahead, find another patrol that goes to you. For this sector, you will find a large area camouflaged. Wait there until they pass, then hit the dirt until you reach the next stage.

Confinement facility

Take the left path, get down and follow the path until you glimpse two soldiers patrolling the side of a house. Shoot them with Mk. II and continue on. Keep stunning all the enemies you come across with until you reach the facility. Shoot the sniper on the watch tower as well as the enemy in front of the trucks. Continue to the left side of the wall, shoot the enemy and leave the area.

Vista Mansion

Go left, prone and follow the road to the door of the mansion. On the way, you will find PMCs. If you can, stun them or avoid them altogether.

Once the bulldozer has knocked down the door, enter the mansion and take the path to the left. Crouch and walk up to some bushes. Wait a PMC to pass and once he's gone, head to the left lateral wall of the mansion and enter the house through the door back. Once you have entered the mansion, walk until you reach a staircase. Here two soldiers will come down. While they are coming down, camouflage to the wall next to the stairs. Once the soldiers are gone, go up the stairs and head left through the door and the room. You'll find yourself on the terrace. Once there, go to the skylight and into the hole. Follow the path until you reach a ladder. Climb it to reach the next stage.

Laboratory

Stand behind the MRI machine and camouflage on the floor. Equip the Mk. II robot and stun all the FROGs. Use stealth and bumb them from behind. Once they turn, stun them with electricity. Watch out not to be seen.

Laughing Octopus

Laughing Octopus can kill you when you are in the way. The beast form does not count as death so you can use lethal weapons. Equip the Rail Gun and the Solid Eye. Once the battle starts, jump to the right room as she begins to shoot. Shoot her until she drops black ink. The things she mimics or disguises are: Wall painting, electronic box (located near the MRI machine), cardboard box, Mk. II, Naomi and blends into the ceiling. With the help of the Solid Eye (Night Vision) you can easily find her. When you find her, shoot at the head and keep repeating the process until she drops no ink and therefore no longer can be camouflaged. Keep a safe distance and be careful enough when she becomes a "ball" and wants to hit you. When she does this, quickly climb to a bed or a box.

When you fight the "Beauty" form, shoot her with a non-lethal weapon to bring down her Psyche. If you defeat Octopus in her "Beauty" form with lethal weapons, it counts as death.

Mountain Road

Avoid using the Solid Eye. Follow the path to the left until you reach a bridge. Once you reach the bridge, stun the soldier on the left. Follow the trail on the right until you reach the river. Watch out for the sniper before that area.

Hilly Way

Once you have reached the river, take the middle path and keep walking to the left until you find a FROG. Stun her and follow the trail that is behind the rock where a FROG is. Follow the trail until you meet another two FROGs. One is right behind a tree on high ground and the other is patrolling near the bow that is in front of you. Stun both with the Mk. II and pass the arc until you see a PMC soldier placing a mine. Shoot him with the Mk. II and follow the right path. A few meters ahead is a PMC soldier. Shoot him and follow the trail to the cave.

Pursuit Tank Drebin

All you have to keep in mind to pass these stages is that only the Gekkos do not count as deaths. There are a few soldiers in power suits. These deaths count as well. For the soldiers that climb the tank and try to attack you, only use CQC moves and stun them.

Marketplace

SAVE. Throw a chaff grenade or just sprint through the Gekkos.

End of Act 2

ACT 3:EUROPE

Midtown S Sector

Equip any face-camo (except from Young and Old Snake) preferably one of the beauties, as if the resistance member detects you, he will not run away and just daze at you. To get the FaceCamo of the Beauties, you have to defeat them in their "Beast" form with non-lethal weapons.

When you advance a few yards and after the cinematic, equip the Solid Eye to night vision and begin to follow him very carefully without making any noise. Once you've already followed him a few yards, you will come to some stairs. Climb them and move on. You'll notice that you get behind two PMCs. Shoot them with your Mk. II. Once done, wait for the resistance member to arrive. When the resistance member has passed your position, shoot with your MK II the two soldiers that are in front of you. Follow him carefully into the park and stun the two soldiers who are in one of the outputs of this (northern part of the park). Once done, all you have to do is follow the resistance member and stun any soldier obstructing his way.

Midtown NE Sector

Similarly, follow the resistance member with care and stun the soldiers who are in his path to reach the next area.

Midtown N Sector

In this area, the member of the resistance is camouflaged as a PMC. Just follow him up to Big Mama's hideout.

Bike Chase

This part is the most difficult in the game. I recommend that you have the Solar Gun for this part because this gun does not need to recharge and thus saves time.

Remember that by pressing the :triangle: button you can take cover behind EVA's body.

Weapons you will need are: Solar Gun, Mk. II, P90, Saiga-12 (with non-lethal ammunition) and stun grenades.

This part is divided into 3 stages: the first is short, you should always be attentive to Big Mama's words as she tells you where the problems are and when you have to eliminate enemies. Also monitor the van, as FROG soldiers jump on top of it.

The second stage gets a bit complicated. Just when you start, you will see a group of soldiers. This is a very good time to use the stun grenades, so you remove several of them. The hard part is when you get to the river bank. I recommend you cast a stun grenade at the group that leaves on the left. As for the Frogs and the machine guns, shoot them with the Solar Gun or Mk. II. In this part you should be very careful and protect yourself as much as possible, because a single shot will decrease your life enough. Later there will be a slow-motion sequence, in which you have to eliminate at least one of the two machine guns there. This will be quite complicated because they can shoot you without mercy and die easily (very frustrating part).

The third and final stage is the hardest. Enable auto-aim here with :square: Shoot the Sliders with your P90. You must do this fast because they begin to fire their missiles. Soon a van will appear next to you. Let the auto aim lock and stun the machine gun as quickly as possible. Continuing look behind and another MG will appear. Stun him. Equip some smoke grenades. When the two vans come in the road, throw some smoke in front and behind them to avoid damage. In the end, disable auto aim and shoot at the FROGs with the Solar Gun.

Raging Raven

If you came here with very little life, you can fast forward the clock of your PS3 as Old Snake earns 25% health per day advance.

Outside is Raging Raven and many Sliders. Their main attack is to throw grenades. Her other attack is to throw a grenade blast. This attack is used when Snake is on the top floor. It is best to avoid it by entering the building as soon as possible. Finally, she will explode almost an entire floor. The good thing is that when she is going to do this, you will hear beeps. Run quickly and take cover.

The main strategy is to have a sniper rifle. The anti-material sniper is recommended. Remember that when you defeat a boss in its Beast form with lethal weapons, it will not count as death. It is recommended to fight on the top floor because the view is bigger so you can find Raging Raven with the help of your Solid Eye easier.

When you have weapons equipped, go upstairs and start searching Raging Raven with the help of your Solid Eye. A good place to attack is just off the stairs because the wall in front of you is indestructible and you can go shooting without fear. When you see Raging Raven, shoot. When you hit her, she will move a bit and stand still again. Take advantage of this time to escape the attack or to shoot again.

At the end of the fight against Raging Raven, you will fight her Beauty form. Just use the Solar Gun for this.

End of Act 3

There is a trick to save like 20 minutes for this Act

When you follow the Resistance member, pllay normally even with killing or getting alerts. Just before reaching the end of each area, wait until the resistance member passes to the next area and then save and quit. When you reload your save, you will be able to pass the area without having to follow the resistance since you saved after he moved on. But the kills and alerts you may have got will not count as you didn't reach a checkpoint. Do this for all 3 areas until you reach the hideout.

ACT 4: TWIN SUNS

Shadow Moses: Campo Nevado

After the dream of Metal Gear Solid 1 and the cinematic, you are in the midst of a snowfield with strong winds. Note that alarms during the dream do not count to your total. The first tip is to use the Solid Eye night vision mode, so you can see without problems. All around you there are plenty of ammunition. After collecting some, progress and notice the patrolling Gekko. Passing without being seen is not complicated, as it makes a particular route. The best way is to climb the hill picking up ammo and when the Gekko is at the turn of the hill and jumps the wall, you'll notice a hole through it. Not that much progress but it's enough to depart from its field of view. Then simply go forward.

The other option you have is to simply kill the gekko with the M82A2 rifle, or the Rail Gun. Don't worry, the gekko dwarfs and the gekkos do not count as deaths, only human lives do.

Shadow Moses: Heliport

After having left behind the Gekko (or have killed it), you will reach the HeliPort. Here you will have no problem because there isn't any enemy here. Collect everything in this area and go. Make sure not to forget the Chaff grenades in the HeliPad.

Shadow Moses: Hangar

After entering the hangar by the door or by the vents (door is recommended), throw a Chaff grenade so you can go through this place easily.

Shadow Moses: Canyon

This area is no problem as there are only 2 Gekkos asleep. If you want to detect them, equip the Solid Eye to night vision mode. Crouch and pass through the middle of the area getting to the door without problems.

Shadow Moses: Warhead Store

Once inside the building, enter the Heads Store Nuclear. Inside the truck you will find the FIM-92A. Go to the door and then up the stairs to the elevator.

Shadow Moses: Warhead Store - P2

Make your way to the computer room. Exit the lab. Going forward, you will have to face a Gekko that appears suddenly. It's very simple escape from it, but I advise you to charge Rail Gun to Level 3 and kill it as it drops. Go to the elevator and then head for the locked door. When the Gekko appears, distract it or kill it. I recommend you kill it with a fully charged shot from the Rail Gun, as it will open the door immediately.

Shadow Moses: Communications Towers

Equip the Solid Eye, FaceCamo, Rail Gun and the C Box as they will be very useful. Now go down to the communications tower.

Crying Wolf

This battle can be tricky, since Crying Wolf has a very powerful weapon that gives her a bit of an advantage, but the important thing is that the fight is not only against her because there will be many FROGs patrolling the battlefield. You must be very attentive and find a good place where you can control the different sides.

Stunning is very important for the FROGs. Make sure to stun always the one on the left side of the map as you enter the area.

For this fight you must have a sniper rifle, Mosin Nagant recommended, and use the Solid Eye Night Vision and FaceCamo.

After you equip them, go to the left part of the map. Keep stunning all enemies you come across with. The Crying Wolf will be at the other side of the map so start heading there. I advise to use the anti-material Sniper against her. With 6 headshots she will go down. If she starts coming to you, equip the C Box so she won't jump on you making you lose 95% of your health.

After you win the Beauty as well, head out the door in front of you.

Shadow Moses: Furnaces

Move to the left and stick to the wall and go through the cornice. Throw a Chaff grenade and fall all the way left to the elevator. Call it and then enter.

When the door opens, you'll see a Gekko near you. Don't worry because it is looking the other way. Equip yourself with the M82A2 and shoot it in the head while not watching. Move forward on the right side.

The area ends with 3 dwarf Gekkoa patrolling. Stay close to the wall, equip the M4 Customizable with a silencer and kill the annoying dwarf Gekkos. Watch out as there is a Gekko patrolling the area. Equip the M82A2 and kill it.

You have to go on the conveyor belt and pass to the next area. On the conveyor belt there is a hole that can be used to hide. Watch the Gekko and dwarf Gekkos patrolling the area. This needs timing so you won't be seeing. When the Gekko on top of the conveyor turns his back, immediatelly go and head towards the exit.

Shadow Moses: Underground Base

Small area. Crawl through the vent and throw a Chaff grenade. Quickly move to the next area.

Vamp

The most effective gun to use is the Solar Gun. If you do not have it, I recommend getting it before doing The Boss Extreme.

Vamp is rarely still, jumping around and going to different places. Equip your Solar Gun and charge it to the fullest. When he goes to the ground and run towards you, shoot him. His stamina will deplete right away. Equip the Syringe and go behind him. When he gets up, grab him with :r1: and press :triangle: to inject him.

Now is the right time to use the Rail Gun, the powerful weapon you got by defeating Crying Wolf. Just load it and shoot the Gekkos. A tip is to shoot when you have fully charged and with a single shot you will defeat the gekkos.

After eliminating all Gekkos, you will control Metal Gear REX. On top of the screens is a countdown, but do not worry there is plenty of time. To advance quickly through the area just press "X" to make a sprint Rex and progress faster. No need to actually shoot the Gekkos as it is risky by doing so. If you pass over them, when they explode you will lose a lot of health.

Metal Gear RAY

:r1: Kick melee or shoot while aiming with :l1:

:cross: Dash

:triangle: Action button to perform grapples

The machine gun is useful but the main problem is that it can overheat if you use it a lot. Monitor Ray's beam attack as it's the most powerful attack he has. The melee attack is useful because after two or three kicks you can use the action command, however use it carefully. If Ray shoots missiles, shoot them with the Machine Gun.

End of Act 4

ACT 5: OLD SUN (OUTER HEAVEN)

Outer Heaven: Headboat

Be careful as many soldiers will be looking for Snake. Put on FaceCamo and crouch moving towards the west. Monitor at all times as there are enemies everywhere. There are three possible paths and there are enemies everywhere. Go near the fencen and stick to the wall while moving past it. When the FROG comes close, stand still until she turns away. Continue by crawling at all times. Make sure your Camo index remains at 90% when moving. Continue to the next intersection sticking as west as possible until a FROG passes in front of you. Stun her and move to the left. Here there will be a FROG patrolling the same path all the time. When she gets close to the place where you stunned the last FROG, stun her as well. Now stick to the wall and keep crawling watching your index all the time. Pass through the containers by sticking to the wall and keep crawling. Two more FROGs will drop down. Take them out quietly. Now for the most important part. Next to where the door is, look all the way up to see a Sniper. There is one to the right and one to the left all the way up. Make sure to stun them or you will be spotted. Once the Gekko turns away, off to open the door and in the elevator.

Outer Heaven: Command Center

Equip yourself with non-lethal weapons (Mosin Nagant, Mk. II etc..) and eliminate all FROGs. Camp at the corridor from which you entered.

Screaming Mantis

This fight is not complicated, if you know what to do. Equip your Saiga shotgun and stay in the middle of the room. Keep doing circles around the globe. Shoot at the Mantis Doll at all times. When you do, she will momentarily lose control of her "puppets" and you will not be shot...much. Once you have hit her enough to fall down, pick the Doll, equip it from your inventory and aim for her.

When the hallways have dwarf Gekkos, either use a Chaff grenade if you have any left or simply roll forward to stun them a bit and move forward.

Liquid Ocelot

This fight is difficult. Controls:

:cross: button = Crouch/Dodge with left analogue stick pointed somewhere

:r1: = Hit

:triangle: = Special Move/Counterattack

There is a total of four stages, each stage is identified with a change of music and the archenemy of each MGS game.

1) This is not hard. Just use the :r1: combo as much as possible. Not much to say here except that you try and conserve as much as health as possible for the next parts.

2. This stage is a bit complicated, because instead of a combo, Liquid will use a very powerful punch, identified by "Take this!". If that attack hits you, you may as well say goodbye to 40% of your health. Pressing :cross: is the way to go here. Once you avoid that punch, start making a combo on him with :r1:

3. Liquid will no longer attack you with the swipe like before. This stage is not difficult, but yes, if he grabs you with CQC there will be trouble. As before, the best combo is the normal (:r1: + :r1: + :r1: + :r1:). Keep dodging to prevent him from approaching you.

4. Here the game is already beaten. Walk towards him and press :r1: a few times to finish the fight and the game.

Game Over.

FAQ

This is the FAQ section, meaning Frequently Asked Questions. I have seen that a lot of people are looking for help by asking the same answers again and again, so I thought of creating this.

Q: Can I use an older save I have and earn my trophies?

A: No, you have to make a brand new save and start anew to acquire all of your emblems.

Q: Does this mean I have to delete my older save data?

A: No, you can have the save data in your PS3, create a new one and earn the trophies.

Q: Will using passwords disable any trophy?

A: No, it has been verified that by using in-game passwords you will still unlock your trophies.

Q: I have downloaded an extra camouflage and/or an iPod track? Am I screwed?

A: No need to worry, downloading anything extra won't prevent you from getting your trophies.

Q: I hear people saying that you must get all emblems. But I don't see a trophy about that...

A: While there isn't a direct trophy that requires you to do that, in order to get the iPod track "Snake Eater" which is required for the Sounds of Battlefield trophy, you will need to get all 40 emblems the game has to offer.

Q: If I spend like 5 hours in an area getting kills etc and then I save, will my progress be saved?

A: Unfortunately not. If you stay in an area and then decide to save, your progress will be reset.

Q: Wait a minute, then how will I save my progress?

A: You must either enter a new area in order to reach a checkpoint or die and press continue. That way your progress will transfer to your total if you save the game.

Q: I missed some collectibles :( Will I have to get them all again?

A: No, all the collectibles including FaceCamos, Camouflages, iPod tracks, weapons, Dolls and even flashbacks transfer across playthroughs.

Q: I didn't get a flashback? Why? I followed everything?

A: Perhaps you didn't do everything. There is also a possibility you didn't tap :cross: fast enough to view all the flashbacks.

Q: I didn't get it very well... Do the audio and the gameplay flashbacks count towards the trophy?

A: No, they have been verified from many members here that they are not required. The Camera flashback during Act 4 is not required as well.

Q: Where are the best places to farm alerts, kills and deaths?

A: I have made a Chicken Walkthrough in which I point all the good locations in the game.

Q: Do you know some good strategies for Big Boss Emblem?

A: Likewise, follow this Big Boss Walkthrough

Q: Must I leave the game unpaused in order for the time to count towards the Chicken Emblem?

A: No. You can leave the game paused and the timer will still continue. Same goes for the cutscenes and the credits.

Q: The game suddenly kicked me back to the XMB. WTF is going on?

A: This is something that happens to quite a lot players. While playing the game, they get kicked to the XMB. This is still unknown why it's happening, so it is advised that you save frequently.

Q: Isn't there a way to play less than 8 playthroughs and unlock the platinum?

A: No, you must play the game that many times already.

Q: I saw sometime ago that there was a Scunning Plug S trophy. Where is that?

A: This trophy has been removed from the trophy patch as this item could be acquired only by playing online or via password usage.

Q: Can I use the same enemy for the Bear, Ant, Gibbon and Bee emblems?

A: Yes, you can. Just make sure to wake them up first after knocking them out. For Bee, you can inject the enemy 50 times in a row.

Q: In what order would you advise me to play the games of these series?

A: If you haven't played them before, play them in the order they were released. That's how the developers intented you to play them. If you have played them before, you can play them in the order of the story timeline. That would be MGS3 -> MGS PW -> MG -> MG2 Solid Snake -> MGS 1 -> MGS 2 -> MGS 4

Q: What does count as kills during my Big Boss Emblem run?

A: Killing all living beings counts as kills. Killing the Power Suits in Act 2 counts as kills as well.

Q: Then what DOESN'T count as a kill?

A: Killing (Dwarf) Gekkos, barrel kills, the Sliders in the Raven battle and all the Beast form bosses.

Q: Wait. Then why do I have to defeat the Beasts non-lethally?

A: You must defeat them non-lethally in order to acquire their Doll for the SUNLIGHT trophy. During Big Boss you can kill them with lethal weapons.

Q: Why do you advise me not to play the Big Boss run at the end?

A: The reason is that you must get this emblem to unlock the 4 final weapons required for the Little Gray emblem. Getting this emblem cannot be done if you haven't completed a whole playthrough having all 69 weapons acquired.

Q:Speaking of which what about the weapons? Which are required for the trophy?

A: You will need 65 weapons for the trophy to unlock. The four weapons unlocked by acquiring the Big Boss emblem are not required for the trophy.

Q: I've seen people with 70 weapons. Why so?

A: They have used passwords to unlock more weapons. You can do it too freely. But the 69 weapons mentioned in the guide are those that are needed for Little Gray.

Q: How can I gift the militia/rebels?

A: Equip a recovery item (Noodles, Regains and Rations) and go next to them. Press :triangle: to give it to them. You can also give them back the recovery items they give to you and it will still count towards the Blue Bird emblem.

Q: Where can I check my game stats?

A: You can check your progress of the emblems during Mission Briefings. Simply go and save the game at a checkpoint and quit to the main menu. Go to Mission Briefing and choose any you like but the first one. When you control the Mk. II, if you haven't chosen the fullscreen you will be able to see the stats and the progress of the various emblems. The 1st Mission Briefing is an exception, as it won't show your stats.

 Plain and simply this is amazing Zolanton. Everything is laid out great in good detail. All I can say is amazing. But normally you cant post a guide until you have proven you have a "substantial" amount of trophies for the game but this being such an older game I doubt that will be a problem? This will be the first of many great guides that will be posted here in the coming week. Good luck.

I have obtained already 50% of the trophies (17 I think), so I qualify to post a guide. You will have to wait a few minutes to clarify this as both YGC and PSNP were down a few minutes ago. Thank you for your kind words :)
