Section 02. Introduction

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty HD (Vita) is a Vita version of Metal Gear Solid 2:Sons of Liberty HD that was released on Playstation 3. The PS3 version is an upscaling of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty Substance that was released back on the PS2. This is an exact copy of the PS3 version, trophies and all; the only difference is the controls between the two consoles. One difference that doesn't carry over is the 720p resolution glitch that was in the EU/PAL version of the game. Like the PS3 version, the two difficult parts of the game are clearing all of the VR Missions and collecting most of the dog tags.

This is not a comprehensive Trophy Guide for the PS3 version of the game. Most of the data is exactly the same but for any PS3 specific question you may have, please use the Trophy Guide and Roadmap in the PS3 Forums.

Section 2.1 - Data Transferring

One of the abilities with the Vita version of this game is you can transfer your data to your PS3 and play the game on your PS3 if you wish; there are a few things you should know about this however. The first one to be able to transfer your data is you need to be connected to the PSN when you make your first save. Then when you transfer your data, the data on your Vita will be locked from earning trophies but you will be able to earn trophies while you play on the PS3. You can continue to earn trophies on your Vita only after you transfer your data back. Now here comes the big part; if you data transfer there is a chance you will not earn trophies. To prevent this problem I advise you play strictly on your Vita as there is no definitive answer for what causes the trophies to not be earned.

Section 03. Walkthrough

On top of your five playthroughs you will also be tasked with completing extra missions. They offer their own unique challenges, some harder than others. But if you can complete the story on all difficulties, they should be easy enough to get past. The big thing to remember in each playthrough is to grab as many dog tags as possible; especially on the harder difficulties. You do not have to collect every dog tag, but you do need to collect a majority of them across all difficulties so be sure to not skip any. The other big challenge is clearing all the VR/Alternate Missions which may not be too difficult, but will require a lot of patience as there are over 500 missions.

Section 03.1 - First Playthrough (Very Easy)

Whether you're new to the game or have played it extensively over the years, go ahead and start on the easiest difficulty to get a feel of the game. When starting the game be sure to have your radar on and select the Tanker-Plant scenario. Even if this is your first time playing, go ahead and attempt a playthrough without a single alert; it's not as hard as it sounds. You should also work on earning (or working towards) the non-story/mission trophies, most of which will be earned by the time this playthrough is over.

(G) Complete Stealth (Missable)

Section 03.2 - Second Playthrough (Easy)

With your first playthrough (and hopefully Complete Stealth) done, load your clear game data to start the next round. The game is still quite easy to pull off a no-alert playthrough, so if you still need it I strongly suggest doing it now before you go onto a harder difficulty. During this run you should focus on finishing up any non-story/mission related trophies you may have left and focus on getting every dog tag as you go through the game. At the end of the game you will be another step closer to the platinum.

Trophies Earned

(B) Bye Bye Big Brother

(B) Don't Taze Me, Bro

(B) Nothing Personal

(B) Rent Money

(B) Yorkie (Missable)

(B) Beagle (Missable)

Section 03.3 - Third Playthrough (Medium)

Load up your clear data save and put the game on the next difficulty, remember to keep your radar on. You should be getting a feel for the game and understand what to do, where to go and how to avoid the numerous patrols. You should have all non-story/mission related trophies by now so all you need to focus on are the dog tags. Make it through the game to get almost halfway there.

Trophies Earned

(B) Poodle (Missable)

(B) Shiba Inu (Missable)

Section 03.4 Fourth Playthrough (Hard)

Load up your clear data save and put the game on the next difficulty; select only the Plant scenario here and remember to keep your radar on. There should be nothing new to you by now. The enemies are more numerous and hit you a lot harder. The best way to survive is to not be discovered. Grab all the dog tags so you don't have to come back.

Trophies Earned

(B) St. Bernard (Missable)

Section 03.5 Fifth Playthrough (Extreme)

Load up your clear data save and put the game on the next difficulty; select only the Plant scenario here and remember to keep your radar on. If by some chance you haven't earned your Complete Stealth playthrough, this is the most critical time to do it. The enemies can easily kill you, do not fight but evade everything you can. Grab every dog tag available on this difficulty, because you will not want to go through it again.

Trophies Earned

(G) Great Dane (Missable)

Section 03.6 Special Missions (Non-VR Missions)

All these are available after clearing the game once; be sure to save your post game (your game data tag will turn red). Now go to the Special option from the Main Menu; here you'll have to setup a video for Rose to kill Raiden, clear Boss Rush mode and clear all the Snake Tales. The Snake Tales are the most difficult of these trophies as they'll put you in difficult situations that can be unwinnable if you don't come properly prepared. Be sure to save your data after you clear each Snake Tale so you don't risk losing a clear on one of the missions.

Trophies Earned

(B) Love Hurts

(S) No Boss of Mine

(S) Tell Me a Tale

Section 03.7 Special Missions (VR/Alternate Missions)

This is the last part, but do not take it lightly. You will have access to multiple characters and each character will have multiple VR and Alternative Missions to complete. You must complete every single mission with every single character and beat the #1 score on 50 different missions to finish this mode.

Trophies Earned

(B) Piece of Cake

(S) In It to Win It

(G) Virtually Impossible

Section 03.8 Clean up

If you missed a dog tag or anything else, go back and meet the criteria. Once all the above criteria have been met you will have earned your final trophy.

Catch a glimpse of Vamp standing in the streets of New York during the end cinematic.

This trophy is missable but that can be fixed by saving your game during the final battle with Solidus. Once Solidus is dead the ending cinematics will start. Snake will ask Raiden about the dog tag and Raiden will say he's not sure; the camera will zoom in on the dog tag at this point. Once the camera changes angle it will slowly pan to the left while focusing on Raiden. During this you will need to drag your finger across the touch screen to zoom in and spy Vamp standing next to a car to earn this trophy.

Hear Johnny's bowel noises in two locations

(Missable) This trophy is missable as there are only two locations you can hear Johnny's stomach problems. The first one is in the B1 floor of the Core 1 structure. Once you find Ames he'll tell you to listen in on the conversation between Olga, Solidus and Ocelot. Ignore their conversation and turn to your left; point the microphone near the flagpole near the podium to hear Johnny complain about his diarrhea. The second location is at the oil fence, while you're covering Emma as she walks across the narrow walkways. Once you clear the way you can use the directional microphone and listen to her. Once she makes it to the second platform, pull out the directional microphone and point it at the structure. Johnny will find her, they'll talk for a bit and then he'll let her go and you'll earn this trophy.

Watch Rose kill Raiden on a rooftop

After clearing the game and making a clear save (your save data will be red). From the main menu go to the following options; Special > Casting Theater. Press :left: once to select "Demo 8 (Solidus VS Raiden: The Final Battle)." Now change Raiden's character to Rose and Solidus's character to Raiden and play the clip. Watch the entire clip through to earn a quick trophy.

Put an enemy in a locker

This can be done as Snake or Raiden and in numerous places throughout the game. Wherever there's a locker you need to open it up, now knock out a guard and drag him over to the locker to stash him inside it and earn this trophy. The earliest possible time to get this trophy is as Snake in the area Deck-A, Crew's Quarters.

This can be done as Snake or Raiden and in numerous places throughout the game. Wherever there's a fire extinguisher you need to lure a guard near it and then shoot it to have it daze a guard and earn this trophy. The earliest possible time to get this trophy is as Snake in the area Deck-D, Crew's Quarters.

Lure a guard with a girlie magazine

This can be done as Snake or Raiden and in numerous places throughout the game. First you need to get a girlie mag (they're titled book), now look for a patrolling enemy. Plant the magazine in his patrol route and when he stumbles upon it, he'll look through it and you'll earn this trophy.

Kiss a poster in a locker

This can be done as Snake or Raiden and in numerous places throughout the game. In certain lockers are pinups of girls on the inside part of the locker door. Go inside the locker and close the door, angle your view down to model's face. Now place your thumbs where the item/weapon icons usually are and slide them upward across the touch screen. If performed properly, Snake/Raiden will move in for a kiss and you'll earn this trophy. The earliest possible time to get this trophy is as Snake in the area Deck-A, Crew's Quarters.

See Snake Beater for a video on how to do this.

Get caught by Otacon stimulating yourself

This can be done only as Snake. A few of the lockers on the tanker has pinups of girls on them. Enter a locker and focus your view on the model and her assets. Snake's vision will start bobbing up and down to signal he's getting worked up. Once this is going on, call Otacon (non-save) and he'll chide Snake for his actions. The earliest possible time to get this trophy is as Snake in the area Deck-A, Crew's Quarters.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1450/706.jpgSteel Grip (B)

Attain grip level 3

This can be done as Snake or Raiden and in numerous places throughout the game, mainly wherever is a ledge you can dangle from. There are a few ways to properly do a pullup. You can pinch the front touch screen and rear touch pad and swipe up or touch one finger from each hand to the center of the rear touch pad and swipe out. The rear touch pad method seems to be a little faster since you don't need to make as big of a motion. You will have to do a total of 200 pull-ups to reach grip level 3. You know you reached the next grip level as grip level 2 is yellow and grip level 3 is grey. A successful pull-up is from a dead-hang and holding it until Snake/Raiden's head stops shaking as he pulls himself up. If you release the buttons before then, the pull-up may not be counter. You should also do this with some sort of ground beneath your feet so you don't fall to your death. There's a faster way to level your grip gauge. Hang over a ledge with a ledge below you; press :cross: to drop and then quickly press :triangle: to grab onto the ledge below your original ledge. A ledge catch counts as 10 pullups.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1450/402.jpgSteamed (B)

Kill 5 enemies with pipe steam

This can be done in only a few places throughout the game, mainly wherever large pipes are. While an enemy stands near a pipe you need to shoot the pipe and have it bust open with steam. You can shoot an enemy a few times to weaken them before the steam or steam them multiple times to have them die. The earliest time to earn this trophy is as Snake in the Engine Room passageways; they're narrow and have plenty of steam pipes running through them.

Send Otacon a picture of the marine with no pants

This can be done only by Snake. In Hold 1 of the tanker, near the front of the formation is a single Marine who is not wearing his trousers. Use the camera Otacon has you use (not the digital camera) and snap a picture of him. You know you have a good picture of it because Snake will say "Good." With that picture saved on the camera use the terminal you use to upload the Metal Gear pictures to send it to Otacon. Otacon will laugh at it and you will earn this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1450/FAB.jpgBye Bye Big Brother (B)

Destroy 15 cameras

This can be worked on by Snake and Raiden and will take more than one playthrough to accomplish. Unlike the enemy personnel, the cameras do not respawn and are few in number. To earn this trophy you need to disable 15 cameras (shoot with a lethal weapon). The counter only stays current if you start a new game by loading your clear game data.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1450/7CD.jpgSilence is Golden (B)

Shoot 10 enemy radios

This can be done by Snake or Raiden. You can use either a lethal or non-lethal weapon to destroy the radio. The easiest way to shoot an enemy's radio is by sticking them up and shooting it from their back; all enemies wear their radio on the back right side of their hip. Shooting an enemy's radio without sticking them up will sound an alert so keep that in mind. You can work on this trophy while also working towards Rent Money, Nothing Personal and Don't Taze Me, Bro.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1450/43D.jpgRent Money (B)

Beat 30 enemies unconscious

This can be done by Snake or Raiden. It's simple enough, beat on enemies with your melee attack until they're unconscious (they'll have stars over their head). This is a lot easier on the easier difficulties as enemies are not as hardy and will go unconscious from a single combo. It's also a lot easier to combo them by sticking them up first. Once Raiden has the Coolant Spray you can knock them out before killing them for Nothing Personal or tranquilizing them for Don't Taze Me, Bro.

Break the neck of 30 enemies

This can be done by Snake or Raiden. Grab an enemy by sneaking up behind them and pressing :square:, then keep rapidly pressing it until their neck breaks. The difficulty setting does not matter as once they're grappled, the enemy has no way of fighting back and their increased life will not matter. It's easier to grab an enemy by sticking them up first. Once Raiden has the Coolant Spray you can knock out your enemy for Rent Money or Silence is Golden before you wake them up and snap their neck.

Tranquilize 100 enemies

This can be done by Snake or Raiden. It's simple enough, use the M9 Tranquilizer or PSG1-T to knock out 100 enemies. Non-lethal boss kills count for this as well. Tranquilize 100 enemies for this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1053/30.jpg Photo Finish (B)

Acquire the digital camera

There are three ways to obtain the digital camera. The first method is simply beat the game by going the Tanker-Plant scenario. The second method is earning Box E on the plant and getting on the conveyor belt on Strut E, this will take you to a room with the camera. The third method is after escorting Emma you'll be in Strut E, go to the lower level of Strut E and with your new Level 5 card you can enter the room with the camera.

Take a clear photograph of the ghost image in Hold No. 2

This is a Snake specific trophy. Once you reach the holds on the Tanker you'll be going through a few rooms full of Marines who are watching the Commadant's speech on giant screens. You need to sneak through the first hold to the second one where there are two screens. Go to the projector at the back of the hold (don't pass in front of the picture) and interact with it until the picture is on the right screen. Now using the camera Otacon wants you to use (not the digital camera), take pictures of the right screen to see a ghost image of Hideo Kojima. You may get the picture numerous times before earning this trophy as not every picture will activate the trophy. When you get a successful picture you will hear Snake grunt. Since this trophy can be tricky there is also a video below.

You will have to fight through all boss encounters (except Fortune) and two enemy encounters with limited gear. You can also select between Snake and Raiden; I recommend selecting Raiden as Snake isn't a "fan of blades" and will end up fighting Solidus with his bare hands. Each encounter (except Vamp) has at least 1 Ration somewhere in the area, be sure to pick them up to give yourself a better chance at survival. This trophy will appear at the score screen once you beat all the bosses.

Boss List

Olga Gurlukovich > Tanker Hallway Ambush > Fatman > Harrier II > Vamp > Arsenal Tengu Ambush > Metal Gear Rays > Solidus Snake

Complete all Snake Tales

From the Main Menu select Snake Tales. These are five different missions featuring Snake and how things may have gone differently. All of these missions are on pre-set difficulties and some of them have difficult situations you need to get yourself out of. At the end of each mission you can save your data (it's separate from the storyline data). Clear all 5 missions on the same file to earn this trophy.

Please use this Guide if you are having difficulties.

Place first in 50 different VR/Alternative missions

From the Main Menu select Missions; now choose your character, what type of mission you want to do and the specific mission you want to complete. Successfully complete 50 missions and beat the #1 score to earn this trophy.

See Virtually Impossible for additional details.

Beat the Tanker and Plant chapters on any difficulty

As the trophy description says, beat both scenarios on any difficulty to obtain this trophy. This trophy will pop at the title/reward screen that comes after the credits.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1450/7B4.jpgComplete Stealth (G)

Clear the game without entering alert mode (not including events where alert mode is mandatory)

This trophy is not as difficult as it may sound, you just need to stay out of sight from enemies and cameras. The enemy can "see" you as long as you never see the ALERT marker in the upper right hand part of your screen. It can go CAUTION but that's as high as it can go. It is wise to save your game often because if you are seen, you must reload your last save to clear your alert record; dying and selecting Retry will not work. If you collect enough dog tags (Tanker-76, Plant-80) each character will have access to their stealth suit which makes this trophy even easier to obtain. Make it through the Tanker-Plant scenario without causing a single alert to earn this trophy. If you ever find yourself looking at the Mission Failed screen you may see a statistic showing your total number of alerts. There are 3 actual events which will trigger this number to go above 1. By the end of the game your actual number of alerts should only be 3; any more than that and this trophy will not appear.

See this Guide for a video guide for this trophy.

Mandatory Alerts

[spoiler=MandoAlerts]

Alert 1: Tanker - Hallway Ambush

Alert 2: Plant - Emma oil fence escoty

Alert 3: Arsenal - Tengu Ambush

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1450/F42.jpgGreat Dane (G)

Collect all dog tags in the Plant chapter to obtain the Blue Wig

To earn the Blue Wig you will need to collect a total of 218 Plant Dog tags, this is done by playing the Plant scenario on the 5 different difficulties. You do not need to collect every dog tag across every difficulty, but you will need to collect most of them. Once you've collected enough dog tags, clear the game and you'll earn the wig and the trophy on the results screen.

To get a guard to relinquish his dog tag; you need to sneak up behind them and ready your weapon at them, Snake/Raiden will say "Freeze!" and the guard will put his hands up and freeze. Keeping :square: pressed, hold :l1: and move to the front of the guard; you can also use the d-pad to ready your weapon and hold it on them. Go into first person view and point your weapon at their head or groin, most guards will get scared and shake their dog tag loose. Some guards refuse to budge and need more coaxing; equip a lethal weapon and shoot near their body or in a limb and they'll lose their resolve. Point your weapon at their head or groin again and they'll surrender their dog tag.

Boss Data

Boss 1 - Olga Gurlukovich

Olga is the only boss in the Tanker scenario. She doesn't have many attacks, but she has a few tricks and they're made even more annoying on the higher difficulties. She moves from cover to cover and will fire at you. She'll peak out from her cover and fire and if she cannot hit you with direct fire she'll throw a grenades at your location. The two special techniques she uses is she'll shoot off two of the tarp connectors to obstruct your vision. She'll hide behind the tarp but still be able to fire directly at you. When you damage her more she'll shoot the deck light to shine at your location, blinding your vision; again she'll be able to shoot at you without any problems. On the lighter difficulties you can shoot the tarp bindings and deck light to stop their effects, on the higher difficulties you'll have to fight through them.

Boss 2 - Fortune (Event)

Fortune is the first boss encounter in the Plant scenario; she's very unique in the fact that you cannot harm her at all. All you need to do is survive for a few minutes until the elevator comes back down to the room you're in. You can hide behind the crates but she will destroy them and you will eventually be left just avoiding her shots. This isn't too hard on the lighter difficulties but the higher difficulties (especially) Extreme will require you to be precise with your movements as her attacks become more rapid. To dodge her attacks run left and right and hit :cross: to flip the second you hear her Rail Gun fire. There is a trick to help fight Fortune as well. If you have at least one cardboard box, equipping it and running back and forth puts Raiden into a crouching stance making it even harder for Fortune to hit him.

Boss 3 - Fatman

Immediately after the Fortune event you'll have to rush to the Helipad on Strut E to dispose of another bomb. Once you freeze it the Fatman fight will start. It's advisable to keep Sensor A equipped through this fight, as Fatman will skate around the area placing bombs on the various containers. He'll place them on the top, under or side of the containers so search every bit of them. These bombs are priority one in this fight, after setting a few he'll start a timer and you MUST freeze all of them. To fight Fatman you need to shoot/punch him until he falls to the ground. Once he's on the ground use your weapon of choice and put a bullet in his head; sometimes the game will bug and you can damage him twice while he's on the ground. Once he gets back up he'll skate around and try planting bombs again. Just keep defusing the bombs and hitting him when you can.

Boss 4 - Harrier II

You fight the Harrier on the bridge between the first and second core set. The Harrier has multiple attacks, keeping your eyes on the Harrier is key to knowing what he'll do. If the Harrier drops a lot of flare looking things, get on the bottom deck and make sure the top deck is over you. If the Harrier is far away and Solidus shouts something, he's firing two one-hit death missiles; run halfway down the stairway so the top deck covers you. If the Harrier hovers near your level he's preparing his machine gun; the best cover is the big grey container on the bottom level. If the Harrier hovers and strafes back and forth he'll start shooting rockets; these can be avoided by putting any piece of cover between you and them. Other than that just make sure you don't shoot down the helicopter Snake and Otacon are in. You can also use Chaff grenades to disrupt the Harrier's targeting abilities.

Boss 5 - Vamp

Vamp is one of the trickier fights in the game. The first thing I recommend is to go for a stamina-kill for him, so you're not working against both of his stat bars. Once the fight starts the first thing you should do is shoot out the four floodlights around the room; this will prevent his most dangerous ability. Vamp's other attacks have him on the upper railings; he'll throw 1+ knives at you while standing still or twirl down the rail and throw knives in a wave as he moves. His lower platform moves will be throwing 1+ knives at you and rushing your position. Dodging the knives are easy enough but when he rushes you, equip the Nikita launcher and when he does his flip press :circle: to melee attack him. As his stats get lower he speeds up his attacks and throws more knives.

Weak-point: If you can shoot the bullet-holes in Vamp's head or stomach he will shriek in pain, keel over in pain and will take a lot more damage then a normal shot. These are easier to pull off in the early points of battle while he still poses and struts.

Shadow-Stitch: If you do not shoot out the floodlights, Vamp will throw knives that will hit your shadow and prevent your movements. If you cannot move then you cannot dodge; shoot out those floodlights.

Boss 6 - Metal Gear Ray Army

This is the easiest fight in the game, despite it possibly being one of the longest. All of the Ray's attacks can be dodged by simply running left or right. The Ray's take more damage if you shoot them in the leg and stagger them before you shoot them in the face. The amount of Ray's you need to kill is dependent on what difficulty you're on; Very Easy requires only 3 kills while Extreme will require you to kill 20 of them.

Extreme: On Extreme difficulty this can be a very challenging fight and all of their attacks can kill you very quickly; without access to Rations this can ruin your day very fast. However if you've been collecting dog tags on the earlier difficulties you should have the Brown Wig (infinite ammo). With infinite ammo always keep the chaff grenade effect up, this will cause them to move slower then normal and their missiles will not track as well.

Boss 7 - Solidus Snake

This is the last boss and final fight in the game; Raiden's only weapon is his sword. Solidus has two forms; his early form is with the tentacles and the later form is without them. With the tentacles he has a bit more range and can shoot projectiles. The tentacles and projectiles are easy enough to dodge. Get close but keep a bit of distance to bait him into attacking; dodge his attacks and hit him with a 3-hit combo. After 3 hits he'll fall down and block any attempted follow-up attacks. Once his tentacles are off the fight gets harder. He loses the bit of range but will rush around the area and attack you. The fire he leaves behind can be flipped through but will set you on fire if you try to walk through it. Even though his attacks have changed the method is the same, bait him into attacking and counter with your own. When he starts darting around the area be ready for his attack, dodge it and hit him while he's recovering.

Blocking: With the sword equipped, holing :vital: will make Raiden block. You can block most of Solidus' attacks. The ones you can't block are; his double over-head slash, tentacle missiles, tentacle foot sweep and the tentacle wall jump. You'll have to dodge those attacks, but simply hold :vital: and face Solidus to block any attack he sends your way and immediately counter.

Great Guide, I have been using this for a while hoping the PS3 version was the same as the Vita one.

On the Metal Ray fight on extreme is there an easy way to get the Rays out to the middle as this is where I take most damage. I find it very hard to dodge the machine gun fire and sometimes they just seem to spam rockets giving you no opportunity to counter?

Once in the middle its just about getting in a rhythm and listening for the beeps! and having a little luck.

I never had a problem getting a Ray to jump on the platform. Once one gets taken out the next one usually jumps up within a few seconds.

I think I explained myself badly. I should of said at the start of the fight when all 3 are facing you. This is the part I struggled with. Once one had jumped into the middle it was ok.

I found that if you concentrated your fire on one Ray, rather than spread it out you could make it jump in sooner.

It's funny, the begining of the Ray fight is my favorite, because I seemed to get a lot of free shots in then. I can usually finish off one Ray before it jumps up.

I finally got around to finishing Snake Tales today and didn't realize how much the chaff grenades really help in that fight. Just eliminating the homing missles is a big help, but it seems like there aren't as many overhead missles with chaff either.

Shadow-Stitch: If you do not shoot out the floodlights, Vamp will throw knives that will hit your shadow and prevent your movements. If you cannot move then you cannot dodge; shoot out those floodlights.

It's still possible to dodge his attacks, but for that, you just need to be standing still and when Vamp throws knives at you, crouch and you will avoid the attack. You'll be in 1st view when doing this because you'll be aiming at him trying to shoot him so trying to run to avoid it isn't really needed. The shadow should be the least of worries for some. :)

Boss 6 - Metal Gear Ray Army

Extreme: On Extreme difficulty this can be a very challenging fight and all of their attacks can kill you very quickly; without access to Rations this can ruin your day very fast.

It's worth mentioning that there's a free ration on the center of the arena during Solidus' speech(not cutscene) before the RAY fight but it will disappear once the fight starts so better take it before Solidus ends his speech. Those lucky enough(me) who managed to arrive with both rations, use one ration and take the one on the arena. On E. Extreme, there's no ration on the arena.

True that. This part of the guide about rations could use some correction.

Apart of that, great guide, which I was using while playing lately:)

Unless I'm missing something or misunderstand you, you can't crouch or move at all when he pins you to the floor.

Is that Ration only there on Extreme? I did a quick warm up run on Hard last night and there was no Ration. I'm up to the oil fence section on my Extreme play through now, so I should be at the arena tonight to check.

Edit: The Ration was there on Extreme. I just wish I could have brought it with me to Solidus, I didn't need it for the Rays.

Vamp is one of the trickier fights in the game.

You mean in the harder difficulties (like extreme)? Vamp is not really hard if you know what to do (well, I guess that goes without saying in MGS boss fights).

Dodging the knives are easy enough but when he rushes you, equip the Nikita launcher and when he does his flip press :circle: to melee attack him.

..or place claymores on both sides and Vamp can't rush to you (instead: Boom, he goes). IF you've picked up all those claymores during the game, that's.

Vamp is the easiest fight in the game as there is a safe spot you can utilise.

Go to the top right hand corner, equip the Nikita and lie down. None of his attacks can hit you and all you need to do is wait for him to land on the platform you are on, fire a Nikita rocket and guide it into his feet. Easy peesey!!

Hope this helps anyone having trouble with this fight. It is a bit cheesy but it works! :applause:

You can also use the rail hang trick to make Vamp even easier. When hanging over the rail none of his attacks can hit you. He will drop down and walk over to you and try to slice your hands with his knife. When he starts the animation climb back up and either use CQC or quickly equip the Nikita before hitting him. Then he will jump into the water where you can drop a couple Grenades or Stinger rockets to deplete his O2 guage and take a little off his Stamina. Rinse and repeat. Even on Extreme this fight took me less than two minutes.

Mandatory Alerts

[spoiler=MandoAlerts]

Alert 1: Tanker - Hallway Ambush

Alert 2: Plant - Emma oil fence escoty

Alert 3: Arsenal - Tengu Ambush

I think there is a little mistake in this section. I think it should be like this:

[spoiler=MandoAlerts2]

Alert 1: Tanker - Hallway Ambush - this is not counting towards alert phases in the "Mission Failed" screen.

Alert 1: Plant - During Emma escorting sequence - there may be multiple alerts (including spotting by Cyphers) and they all count as one.

Alert 2: Arsenal - Tengu Ambush - before cutscene

Alert 3: Arsenal - Tengu Ambush - after cutscene. It counts as another alert phase.

So, as said before. You can only have this 3 alert phases.

I played on Normal Tanker-Plant in one playthrough, so it may differ on another difficulty levels.

Ok, thanks. I see the plat a little bit easy xD

Actually I don't agree with you. The Virtual Reality missions can be very difficult. So far the most difficult one for me was Snake Variety level 4, I think, where you have to snipe 26 people before they reach Mary Silverburgh, who's lying in the middle of the ground. With the Vita highly sensitive controls, it's very, very hard.

Not only that, there is another one which you need to snipe 31 people, and some of the versus multiple soldiers and finally a giant boss, almost give up on that
