Introduction

Mensa Academy is a puzzle/quiz game with different ways to test your brain in many areas.

There are three different game modes to choose from. Each of these three modes holds 4 trophies. The modes are called Play, Coach and Test. All Test Mode trophies are stackable.

Play mode is a series of 20 levels of incremental difficulty in five different categories (see below for category list). Each level has a set of ten problems and you get a 1/2/3 star reward at the end, depending on your score.

The category list is:

  • Language
  • Numeracy
  • Logic
  • Visual
  • Memory

Coach mode allows you to choose a mini game at will (once it is unlocked in Play mode) and there are bronze, silver and gold medals to be won. These, unfortunately, are not stackable so you must do three runs of a single mini-game to get each medal. In order to earn enough points for a medal you must answer every question correctly in Coach mode.

Test mode is exactly what it sounds like...a Test! You have fifteen minutes to answer thirty questions. All questions are based from the mini-games.

Walkthrough

A few tips to make this easier at the harder levels:

  1. Pausing the game mid-question will stop the timer, allowing you more time to think
  2. Have a pen and paper near you
  3. A Calculator will help for the Numeracy Levels
  4. If you paused the game, but need to see more of the screen, then go to help & options from the pause menu - it will show more of the screen
  5. Google can help in some of the Language mini-games like Missing Letters Gold Tier

Steps 1-5 will be very similar. Each step (with the exception of Step 6 should take in the region of 1-2.5 hours to compete

Step 1 (Language):

Go into Play mode; Language. Play through the first five or six levels. This should unlock all of the mini games available for Languages in Coach Mode. Go to Coach mode; Languages. There are 7 mini games here. Play them all 3 times to get the 3 different medals in each. (Note: once you get the medal, just hit "Play Next Level" to save unnecessary loading). Once you have all of the Medals from the Language Coach mode, go back into Play mode and finish up on the Language section for the stars. Thanks to Coach mode, this should not take too long to finish. In order to get 3 stars in a Play level you must get more than 1000 points. You can afford to get one wrong (and possibly can afford to get 2 wrong but your correct answers will need to be quick)

Trophies acquired in this step:

  • 3 is the Magic Numer (B)
  • Going For Gold (B)

Step 2 (Numeracy):

Similar to Step 1, go to Play mode; Numeracy this time. Play the first 5-6 levels to unlock the mini games. Then go to coach mode, get all of the medals by completing each mini-game 3 times. Now go back to Play mode and get the rest of the stars in the Numeracy Category.

Step 3 (Logic):

Play 5-6 levels in Play mode; Logic. Then go to Coach mode; Logic mini-games. Get all medals and then return to Play mode; Logic to get the rest of the stars.

Step 4 (Visual):

Go into Play mode; Visual. Play 2 or 3 levels because there are only 3 mini-games to unlock. Once you do this, go to Coach mode; Visual, and get all of the medals. Then return to Play mode and finish up the Visual levels.

Step 5 (Memory):

Go into Play mode; Memory. Play 2 or 3 levels because there are only 3 mini-games to unlock. Once you do this, go to Coach mode; Memory, and get all of the medals. Then return to Play mode and finish up the Memory levels.

Trophies acquired in this step:

  • Jack of all trades (B)
  • 20-20 Vision (B)
  • The Bronze Age (B)
  • The Brave 300! (S)
  • Sterling Silver (S)
  • The Great Gold Rush (S)

Step 6 (Test Mode)

Now it's time for you to take the test! After completing all of the challenges and levels from both Play and Coach modes, this really shouldn't pose a problem. If left until last, Test mode can be done in one go, unlocking the rest of the trophies and 100% completion.

Trophies acquired in this step:

  • Above Average (B)
  • Well Above Average (B)
  • Bright Spard (S)
  • Mensa Material (G)

Trophy Guide

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1856/D96.jpg 3 is the Magic Number http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Get your first 3 star award for any level in Play mode.

This will more than likely be the first trophy that you unlock. Simply go into the Play game mode. Pick the Language category (or whichever one you'd prefer). In order to get a 3-star award, you must score over 1,000 points. You can afford to make at least one mistake. Just play the 1st level of Languages and you should get it no problem. The trophy unlocks at the result screen.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1856/FC1.jpg Jack of All Trades http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Get a 3 star award for a level in each of the 5 categories in Play mode.

All categories are unlocked from the beginning in Play mode, you can get it whenever you wish. Simply get a 3-star award for the first level in all 5 categories and the trophy will pop after the 5th 3-star award.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1856/5F8.jpg 20-20 Vision http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Get at least 1 star at Level 20 in all Categories.

This trophy is another self-explanatory one. Level 20 will be the final level in any given category. You need to get to level 20 in each of the five categories in Play mode, and then achieve at least 1-star in each of the final levels. The trophy will pop after the last level.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1856/B33.jpg The Brave 300! http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Get all 300 Stars.

There are 100 total levels in Play mode, twenty levels in five categories. You must get a 3-star award in all Play mode levels. The last few levels in each category can be tricky due to the timer, but there are ways to make it a little easier.

To get a 3-star award for a level, you must score over 1000 points so try to get as many questions answered correctly and as quickly as you can. You can definitely get one wrong and still get a 3-star award. The trophy pops after you get the final 3-star award.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1856/1BD.jpg Going For Gold http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Achieve your first Gold medal in Coach mode.

This trophy is fairly simple to get and the first of the coach mode trophies. To get it, simply go into coach mode, then choose whichever category you prefer. I found numeracy pretty easy because if you have a a calculator it becames a non-challenge. If not then use a pen/paper. You must answer all 10 questions correctly in order to gain a medal. The trophy pops immediately after you get the Gold medal.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1856/B4E.jpg The Bronze Age http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Achieve a Bronze medal in every mini-game in Coach mode.

You will unlock this trophy easily enough. There are 27 Bronze medals to be won in Coach mode. The Bronze tiered mini-games are jokingly easy so this should not be a problem to achieve. The trophy unlocks right after you win your final Bronze medal.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1856/156.jpg Sterling Silver http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Achieve a Silver medal in every mini-game in Coach mode.

This one isn't too bad either. Some of the mini-games will get dramatically harder than the Bronze level, but they're all still relatively easy. Again, there are 27 Silver medals to be won in Coach mode. The trophy unlocks after you win your final Silver medal.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1856/63D.jpg The Great Gold Rush http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Achieve a Gold medal in every mini-game in Coach mode.

There are 27 Gold medals to be obtained. In order to get the medal, you must answer all questions correctly. Some mini-games can be quite annoying at Gold level but there are little tricks you can use to help. Once you collect your final Gold medal, the trophy pops.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1856/138.jpg Above Average http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Achieve a score of 100+ in Test mode.

Self-Explanatory. You must achieve a score of more than 100 in Test mode. The trophy pops at the results screen. This trophy is stackable:

See Mensa Material http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_gold.png

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1856/676.jpg Well Above Average http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_bronze.png

Achieve a score of 120+ in Test mode.

Self-Explanatory. You must achieve a score of more than 120 in Test mode. The trophy pops at the results screen. This trophy is stackable:

See Mensa Material http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_gold.png

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1856/7D1.jpg Bright Spark http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Achieve a score of 140+ in Test mode.

Self-Explanatory. You must achieve a score of more than 140 in Test mode. The trophy pops at the results screen. This trophy is stackable:

See Mensa Material http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_gold.png

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1856/057.jpg Mensa Material http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_gold.png

Achieve a score of 160+ in Test mode.

This is best left until last. The test uses several of the mini-games so if you leave it until the end, you will know how to deal with all of the proposed questions/problems. The trophy pops when you get your results. Check here for tips/details on all 27 mini-games.

  • If you're getting tied down on one question, try moving to another. It can help
  • Remember to pause the game to save some time
  • Have a pen/paper/calculator nearby
  • You have an average of 30 seconds per question
  • There is room for error, but not much so stay focused ( I got 162 and I also got 4 questions incorrect. So there is room for error with this one.)
  • If you don't get it in a couple of attempts, try the mini-game in which you struggle. Do this by going to Coach mode and then select the game you wish to play
  • Try getting the questions that you can definitely answer, answered first. By using the :l1: and :r1: buttons you can cycle through the questions; using the :triangle: button brings you to the overview

The mini games which feature in the test are listed in the spoiler below:

Mensa Acadmey Mini-Game Details & Tips

This is a detailed list of every mini-game that Mensa Academy has to offer. It's pretty all-inclusive so I would personally recommend that you play the game by yourself first and use this simply if you don't know what to do for a certain mini game.

Go down to the Category in which you are struggling, click on the spoiler and then you can find the mini-game in there. I'll give as much information as I can simply because what may be easy for me, may be hard for you and vice versa.

The game doesn't need a guide due to it's layout, so try just use this as a helper.

The spoilers below contain lists & details of all 27 mini-games in Coach mode. I will use (B),(S) & (G) icons to represent bronze, silver and gold medals respectively:

Language:

[spoiler=coachmodeminigamelanguage]

Alphabet Action

You are given four words and have to select them in alphabetical order.

(e.g: alpha, jungle, mega, zoo - in that order)

  • (B) Easy enough. Each word starts with a different letter
  • (S) Slightly harder. Three of the four words will begin with the same letter. Time goes quicker
  • (G) All words begin with the same letter. Also the chances of the 2nd letters being the same in two of the four words are very high if not constant.

If the gold on this is a weak point for you, then try pausing every second or two until you know the order.

Opposites

You are given four words and two of them have opposite meanings. You must select these two words (e.g full-empty; long-short)

  • (B) Pretty easy. Just make sure to look at all words and not to rush it
  • (S) Same as above but the opposites are starting to become less obvious (e.g reticent-garrulous) and the time runs out quicker
  • (G) Opposites are even less obvious and you have a lot less time to answer.

Even if your vocabulary is good, the time still adds pressure to answer so I would advise to read answers then pause game and think for a second. Cheap, maybe, but it's necessary sometimes. Google any words you're not sure of. This can happen in Gold usually

Missing Letters

A word is given with two letters missing from it. There are four pairs of letters beneath as solutions to the problem.

E.g:

PLA_ST_TION

(X,B) (L,A) (Y,T) (A,Y)

  • (B) Easy enough. A lot of the words are normal. There are only about 37 words used in this level so they get recycled often
  • (S) It get's tougher but still easy get the silver medal. There are double the amount of words here with 75+, so there's less recycling of the same words.
  • (G) I didn't even track how many there were in Gold. I personally found Gold Missing Letters to be very tough indeed

If, like me, you have trouble with this, try googling the word or what you can of the word; and hopefully that will solve your issues. Usually, Google will auto-correct your spelling mistake with the correct word.

Shuffleword

A word is taken and split up into three or four pieces and you must put them in order to make the word.

  • (B) Easy. Just pause if you have trouble
  • (S) Easy. Just pause if you have trouble
  • (G) Easy. Just pause if you have trouble

If you're quick at seeing the letters and pausing, you should be able to get this one easily.

Mixed Up

A word has it's letters jumbled up and you must pick which answer is the same as the word given. Anagrams basically

  • (B) No problems. Short words
  • (S) A bit more difficult
  • (G) This level can be tricky as there are words with 3 e's and 2 i's and you must pick from 4 anagrams which one is correct. Luckilly there will always be one or two with letters than obviously shouldn't be there- so as soon as you spot one of these, rule it out and move on to the next.

If you are struggling, try pausing the game and use the tactic mentioned above to rule out the wrong ones, rather than look for the right one

Word Deductions

Four words are given. Each word represents a number. Below the question are four matrices and one of the corresponds exactly with the words from the question.

E.g dodecahedron, nonagon, continents,hexahedron

( 12 9 )

( 6 6 )

  • (B) Straightforward once you get the hang of it
  • (S) Same but two matrices may appear similar
  • (G) Same. Use pause if you need to. They recycle a lot of the solutions. The only thing is that some of the Matrices will look very similar

Here are some which I noticed occured very frequently:

Cyclops = 1 ; Gemini = 2 ; Bi- = 2 ; Tri- = 3 ; Waltz = 3 ; Quad- = 4 Clover = 4 ; Penta- = 5 ; Honeycomb = 6 ; Continents = 6 ; Hexa- = 6 Spectrum = 7 ; Octo- = 8 ; Quaver = 8 ; Incisors = 8 ; Nona- = 9 Deca-=10 Dodeca- = 12 ; Valentine's Day = 14 ; Sonnet = 14.

The months of the year may also be asked, with 1 being January and 12 being December.Possibly the easiest of the golds. You still may need to pause though.

Odd One Out

You have to decide which of four words is the odd one out. 3 of the words will have a similar connection and one will not.

  • (B) Blatantly easy with one or two tricky ones
  • (S) Slightly harder to distinguish differences
  • (G) Some easy mixed with some very tricky. If you get the options swede, kale, bok choy and lettuce - the odd one out is swede. See how tricky it can get!

Pause the game and google things you're not sure of. I had to use google a few times on this one.

Unlocked 21 Medals (7(B) 7(S) 7(G))

Numeracy

[spoiler=coachmodeminigamenumeracy]

Sums

Very straightforward here. You must discover the missing number to make the sum right

  • (B) Straightforward enough. The most complicated will be sums with three numbers
  • (S) Introduces double-sided sums (eg: 14 + 8 = 11 + ? ) as well as brackets. Just make sure you take care of the brackets before you do anything else. eg: (3 + 4) x (12 - 1 ) is equal to 7 x 11 = 77
  • (G) Gold puts the question mark on the left hand side of the equation so you will probably need a pen and pad or calculator. You should still work everything out. A lot of division in the Gold

All in all, pretty easy. If you have a pen and pad or calculator, combined with the pause button - then these should go by pretty quickly

Number Relations

Okay, this one is not too bad but you'll have to pause and think. There will be diagrams and you must use mathematical operations with the numbers in order to determine the correct answer. It is a difficult one to put into words without getting really detailed so feel free to message me if you have issues with these.

  • (B) Three diagrams, two numbers. The relationship is always a difference in number (e.g. 3-7, 14-18, 1-?) In the example the relationship is a difference of +4, so the answer would be (1-5)
  • (S) Three diagrams with three or four numbers. The question mark is in the bottom right of the square. Using mathematical operations, you have to deduce how that number is got. You use the completed diagrams to see how they work to get the bottom right number. All numbers must be used only once to find the bottom right number of each diagram. There are also triangles (diagrams with 3 numbers) but the same logic is used with these as the other ones
  • (G) Some of these can be awkward to figure out but just keep at it and you should get it. Generally invovles two seperate operators

If you struggle with this, go to Help and Options in the Start Menu. Then go into How to Play. This will allow you to look at the problem without a timer

Symsums

These are very easy in my opinion. A question mark will appear somehere on the Symsum and you have to deduce what it is. You could be looking for an individual icon's's value or a whole row of icon's - it seems quite random.

The top row always appears to be the same icon, so divide that row's total by the number of icons in the row (it will be 2 or 3). Once you have this icon's individual value, work from there to find out what ? is.

  • (B) Always divide top row total by 2 and start from there
  • (S) Generally, divide the top row by 3 and work from there. However, if the top row is the ?, then find a column with the same two icons (there will always be one), get the total and add 50% for your answer
  • (G) Slightly tougher but just pause and do it when you're ready.

Once you're used to Symsums they're pretty easy

Equalibrium

You have a scales. Go to the side which does not have the ? on it. What you do here is multiply the number on the box by how many spaces out it is on the scale. If it says 25 on the box and it is out by four, then it's actual weight is 100. Once you have the total weight of one side, go to the ? side and subtract what you can from the first side's total. The remainder will be your answer.

  • (B) Pause and do it on calc. or on paper. Easy
  • (S) Pause and do it on calc. or on paper. Easy
  • (G) Pause and do it on calc. or on paper. Easy

Numeracy Cont'd...

[spoiler=coachmodeminigamenumeracyII]

Symbols

Insert the correct symbols where they should be. Another straightforward one

  • (B) Generally easy sums and shouldn't be an issue
  • (S) Introduce larger sums so you must pick pairs of operators
  • (G) No noteworthy change from silver medal

If you're having trouble with this, pausing the game will help mid-question.

Fractions

Unless you know your fraactions, decimals and percentages well, you may want a calculator. Mainly because there are some tricky ones later like which number is the odd one out, so it might be easier with a calc.

  • (B) These are all quite easy. Nothing to note
  • (S) The numbers begin to get odd
  • (G) "Which number is the most different" is annoying. Pause and use a calcultor.

I recommend frequent pausing in the gold one for this.

Target Practice

A question is asked and you must shoot the answers. Relatively easy but gets a little tougher.

  • (B) Easy enough. Shoot targets that are multiples of a certain number
  • (S) Has multpiles as well as divisors.
  • (G) Get the stationary ready! It's actually not all that bad

Again, the use of a calculator or pen/pad really negates any difficulty with these

Unlocked 42 Medals (14(B) 14(S) 14(G))

Logic

[spoiler=coachmodeminigamelogic]

Relationships

You'll be given a question and a few answers. You must choose the correct answer by reading the question and answering what something is most/least like. E.g. In the question: "What is the word lion least like?" and the three given answers are Leopard, Tiger and PS3 - then the answer is obviously PS3. This is a dumbed down question but some of them can be tricky

  • (B) Pretty easy, you will generally be asked what something is least or most like. For example, What is most like castle? Palace, Stable or Station. The answer is palace because it is most like castle.
  • (S) No large difference in Silver mode. Slightly less time but that's it
  • (G) Again, it's pretty easy if you know what to do. Some of the questions will not at all be obvious

If you're struggling with this, try pausing the game and googling something you're not sure of. But it shouldn't be too bad in the end

Chain Reaction

This puzzle is not too bad at all. You will see a sequence of different coloured shapes. You must fill in the missing sequence. The colour rarely comes into it after Bronze, but the main thing you need to follow is the type of shape itself. In Gold mode, there will be some answers that are the same shapes, and you need to focus on the colour.

  • (B) All circles, so the colour is the only way to distinguish the pattern
  • (S) Circles and triangles. Find out what shape you need in the sequence. If there are two similar answers, check the colour sequence.
  • (G) Very similar to silver except it will be more difficult as there are three different shapes. Just check the colour progresssion if you are left with two answers which are the same.

Again, pausing the game will help you get this done without too much fuss.

Symballistics

This one may require explanation. You must find out the next geometric pattern in the given sequence. Usually these are easy to figure out but some will leave you scratching your head.

  1. Some require you to pick the same shape but with inverted colurs.
  2. Some require you to spot that the number of objects in each box is increasing by one (E.g. Box One has 2 objects, Box Two has 3 objects, Box Three has 4 objects - therefore Box Four must have 5 objects inside). Similarly there can be squares with an incremental number of lines and you simply follow the sequence
  3. Some will show circles with a line in them or slices missing. You must follow the sequence and then pick the correct answer. The slice ones can be a little tricky, so just make sure you pick the right one. Also, follow the progression in the correct way - i.e. clockwise or anti-clockwise
  4. There is another one in which you must follow the position of shapes within squares. They always have a set pattern so try to find it. I start out with one shape and check it's position. It usually progresses something like -left two places, up one place & right two places, left two places, up one place & right two places - or something like this. Once you figure out where the object should be, check the other objects. Once you get the hang of this it is really quite siimple

  • (B) 1,2,3 from above occur here often. Nothing too bad
  • (S) 1,3,4 from above occur here often. The toughest ones to judge are probably the circles with slices sequence but they're all straightforward enough.
  • (G) All of the above occur here.

Just pause the game if you run into any issues and have a think. There is always some sort of sequence that they follow, try to remember that.

Sequences

Straightforward enough. They recycle a few of the sequences so this makes it a little easier.

  • (B) The only sequences which I have been asked in Bronze, were ones where there is an increment of 3 or 5 or 10 etc...Nothing stressful here, and it should be easy enough
  • (S) This one introduces incremental multiples. Start by checking the gap between the first two. If it's an incremental multiple the gaps will be straightforward- (eg. a difference of 2, a difference of 4, a difference of 6, a difference of 8). Similarly the increment can be +1,+2, +3, +4, etc...) These are not obvious at first. This also introduces square number sequences and recycles them often. These are: 1,4,9,16,25,36,49. Another one which is introduced here is the parallel sequence (not sure the actual name of it) but it is 2 sequences in one line. It may read 6,1,?,5,16,9,21. The trick here is to take the odd and even numbers of the sequence to give two seperate sequences. This then becomes: 6,?,16,21 and the other is 1,5,9. Ignore the sequence without the ?. As you may tell, the answer to this provided sequnce is 11 - a dfifference of 5.
  • (G) Quite similar to Silver. The parallel sequences mentioned above are in the Gold an awful lot and some of them really aren't that obvious. You should manage though

As usual, pause the game if you're stuck for time.

Decoder

I'll have trouble explaining this with words. Unfortunately I can't show you visually but it really is quite simple. There will be small shapes which act as operators and then slightly larger icons which will be the products of the operation. The small shapes affect the large icons in one of two ways:

  • It will either change the colour of the product
  • or it will change the orientation of the product to either 90 Degrees left or right, turn it upside down, or invert the object entirely. In this last case, the dot on the heart will be on the left side, the eye patch on the face will be on the left also, and the larger of the two cherries will be on the right so keep everything in mind.

  • (B) This is easy, there is no working it out. It simply shows how one operator acts upon a product and you must replicate it. The products will always be the same (i.e a face will never turn to a cherry), it's just the colour or orientationthat changes
  • (S) This one will throw a couple of operators at you but it's still easy enough. By looking at the answers, you can sometimes tell if the operator in question is a colour change or orientator (if all the answers are the same colour, this makes it easier). If the operator is a colour change, then don't pick one that is inverted or turned. If the operator is an orientator, don't pick a different colour
  • (G) The Gold is tougher. You must work out which operator does what logically. It's hard to give any advice on it, just pause the game and think. This will contain more operators than the previous 2 levels

Logic Cont'd...

[spoiler=logicminigamecontinuedhere]

Alchemy

This is a simple enough, but sometimes tricky, colur-mixing mini game. The colours are random. Treat each mixture as you would treat brackets in a sum and do them first. Then you can focus on the "+" sign.

  • (B) Jokingly easy. There is only one mixture so just check the legend to see whcih colour you get
  • (S) This is slightly trickier but still simple. There will be two reactants. You will have to mix each pair first before you go near the "+" sign. Also in this level, you can be given the answer and have to find the correct mix (the ? will be on the left side of the equation). To beat this, simply mix the first pair on the left hand side and get a colur. So now with the product and one of the reactants on hand, you can find the other reactant. Let's use Green as an example of the product given at the start and the mixture that you got first was red. You will go to the legend and check Red + What = Green. Now you go to the ? mixture, you now know which colour you need this to be; so mix accordingly to get your answer. This is another difficult one to explain in text.
  • (G)Similar to Silver except you have less time (obviously) and there are three reactants.

This mini game appears a few times in Test mode so make sure you can do it correctly.

Odd One Out

You will see a large shape. On this, will be smaller shapes dotted around the corners. One of the diagrams is the odd one out.

  • (B) Very simple. The odd one out will always be different by one shape and there is never more than three small shapes
  • (S) Harder. The odd one out will always have a differnt colour or shape but usually contain the same amount of small shapes, and there can be as many as five per diagram. Use pause if you need to.
  • (G) There can be several small shapes and several diagrams. You may have seen it in the Silver but if not, you'll find it here. There will be two seperate sets of diagrams laid out and there is one odd diagram. This can be tricky but if you use pause and go in and out of help and options to free up the screen while the timer's off, you should do it no problems

If you are struggling, try to pause the game- go in and out of help & options as this frees up the screen for a second while the timer is stopped.

That's it for the Logical mini-games

Unlocked 63 Medals (21(B) 21(S) 21(G))

Visual

[spoiler=coachmodeminigamevisual]

Hare & Tortoise

Don't be thrown by this, the chances of the tortoise winning is equally as good as the Hare. Generally, this is a game that you just have to go for with little available advice other than pausing if you need to. There is a race between the two animals which lasts between 2-7 seconds. You get to see the start of the race. You then select the winner and push :cross:

  • (B) Straightforward. It goes at a slow enough pace so you have a moment to chose. In general, the one at the faster pace will win the race
  • (S) Straightforward also but you will have slightly less time to react. Use the pause button if you need to. In general, the one at the faster pace will win the race.
  • (G) This can be tricky as it can be hard to call some races and the time doesn't help. The races are over in a couple of seconds. In general, the one at the faster pace will win the race

Remember to pause the game if you need to, especially if you're having trouble with the gold.

Line Up

You must choose the correct suspect from a group of four. Above them are a hat - torso layer item - and shoes. The correct suspect is wearing all three of these items. Very simple in theory.

  • (B)This is easy. The majority of the time, the hat clue alone will do because the suspect will be the only one wearing it.
  • (S) Quicker and slightly tougher. The suspects will look similar but there are easy ways to tell some items apart. See below
  • (G) Quicker and indeed tougher. All suspects will look very similar. Pause the game and spot the differences the determine who the suspect is.

Easily spotted differences:

  • The propeller hat clue will either have a red or yellow middle
  • The purple boxershorts can be small polka dots or large polka dots
  • The tubing around the waste - look to see what the top colour of this is in the clue. This can usually rule two suspects out
  • The difference in the elf shoes is the colour near the top of the shoe - it will be either dark or bright
  • The boots will either be black or orange at the toe part - this can make it easier - especially if the game is paused
  • The red feather hat has it's variants too but this is easily spotted

Jungle Japes

You are given a list of four coloured tiki masks to hit, in order from left to right. The Tiki masks pop up from the grass after a moment and you must hit them in order. There are cerain things in the picture that attempt to put you off but stay focused and it's easy enough. Just make sure that you are on the correct mask before pressing :cross:, because they pop up quickly and if you rush, you may make a mistake

  • (B) Easy. There is only one type of mask per colour
  • (S) Tougher, there will almost always be more than one of the same coloured mask on the screen. Just try to remember that they are distinct masks, regardless of colour. Some are smooth and some are jagged. This makes it easier to spot where you need to be
  • (G) Exact same as Silver with one difference. You have less time. Pause the game if you need to.

Jungle Japes can cause problems but you get used to it the more you play it. Pause the game if the time is going too fast and try to see whereabouts the mask you need is.

Unlocked 72 Medals (24(B) 24(S) 24(G))

Memory

[spoiler=coachmodeminigamememory]

Face Facts

You must memorise the face that is shown to you - then you must recreate it from provided facial features. This is not too bad. A tip would be to think off buzz words for the parts (because the parts get recycled often). Word association helps quite a bit. Also, you could try labelling the parts by colour to see if that helps. Only you will best know what works for you. Remember to pause the game and go in & out of help and options to free up the screen.

  • (B) Easy enough. You are given time and there are only three parts(max) which you can be asked to place on a face. Eyes, nose and a mouth. They're all fairly easy to remember and the selection of parts avilable to use is small.
  • (S) You have less time, and a lot more options to choose from so make sure you know the parts on the face before it goes away. Also, in Silver you will have to pick the head outline often. This means that there a four (max) parts for you to place. With the help of the pause trick, this can be done easily.
  • (G) The Gold is completely different in a way. You are using a human head this time so you must remember hair colur, eyes, nose and mouth. They're all okay. Again, once you pause and try to remember it, it shouldn't be that bad

Zoo Capers

This is a game where animals go past and you must memorise their order. After this, there are some questions about the animals. They will try to be tricky the odd time with the questions so watch out for that. Can really be handled with extreme ease with a pen/pad - you can just write down their order. Just use Capital letters if you do this as no animal begins with the same letter.

  • (B) Easy, there are only three animals that you must remember
  • (S) Again, easy. There can be four or five animals this time.
  • (G) This is easier if you use a pen/pad. There can be six or seven animals to remember in order

As mentioned already, a pen and pad negates any difficulty here

Cacophony

This is a very easy mini game. notes will appear on the screen as instuments in a coloured ball and you must remember the order. There are two way to do this:

  • The first way is to remember the progression by instrument (E.g drum, guitar, drum)
  • The second way is easier in my opinion because the level recycles the same notes and the notes appear in the same coloured circles. So, as the instruments come on the screen, just try to remember the colour (E.g. Red, Orange, Red)

  • (B) Easy, there are only three notes in the progression
  • (S) There are now five notes to remember in the progression
  • (G) there are now six notes in the sequence

As metnioned above, the difficulty can be negated with a pen and pad. Very easy!

Unlocked all 81 Medals (27(B) 27(S) 27(G))

wow awesome guide! really detailed "walktrough":)

gotta pick this up when I have some more time, it looks like a fun game:)

Thanks :)

Yeah it's fun for a while but gets a little tedious then (like any brain training or similar game). And yeah, the mini-game "walkthrough" is probably too detailed so I left a little preface basically noting "only use this if you need it" :)

Can someone help me understand the Alchemy coach game?

Key:

Red+Green=Blue

Red+Blue=Green

Green+Blue=Red

Chain: 1: Green+2: Red+3: Blue+4: ??? =Green

The rules states that mixing equal colors doesn't change the color.

So, in the example I figured:

1+2: Green + Red = Blue

2+3: Blue + Blue = Blue

3+?: Blue + Red (This is wrong... But not according to the key...) = Green

However, I must be missing something because the game says the correct color is Green...

Edit: I figured it out. As usual within minutes after posting. Before I made the post I spent 45 minutes trying to figure out what I did wrong.

I didn't add the colors in pairs, instead I added the colors 1 by one. That was embarrassing.
