Welcome to LA Cops, an isometric view police-themed shooter that plays out like a stereotypical 70s TV Cop show. This is a moderately easy and short platinum as long as you properly set yourself up with maxed out Cops after the first level and realize how to exploit the AI programming.

X4XOsSl.png

Step 1: Earn misc trophies on first level, continually replay to max level one (or both) of your chosen cops

First thing you will want to do is grind out experience on the first level to raise the stats on at least one of your cops to maximum level. This makes the game much less frustrating to get through as you can move faster, one-shot enemies, and take more damage. While doing this you should also get the four miscellaneous trophies out of the way. If you are going to level both of your chosen cops to max this should take about an hour. See Max Stats for the proper method to grind out experience.

At the end of this step you will have unlocked the following trophies:

All Arrests (G)

Max Stats (G)

No Deaths (B)

No Hits (G)

Step 2: Finish the rest of the levels on Normal difficulty

Now that you have one (or both) of your cop’s stats maxed, you should play through the rest of the story and bonus missions to get them all unlocked. In this step you shouldn’t worry about arresting any more suspects as this doesn’t count towards your kill total. Assuming you do that you should also unlock all the kill total related trophies by the end of this step.

At the end of this step you will have unlocked the following trophies:

100 Kills (B)

200 Kills (S)

400 Kills (G)

600 Kills (G)

1000 Kills (G)

All Missions (G)

Game Completed (G)

Step 3: Complete the levels on Hardcore and Nightmare difficulties

All that you will now have left is completing each level once each on Hardcore and Nightmare difficulties. Other than the first 2.5 levels on Nightmare this shouldn’t be any more difficult than your Normal playthrough as long as you are properly exploiting the way the AI works. You can either play through all levels on one difficulty then do the next, or do the levels playing one difficulty setting right after the other.

At the end of this step you will have unlocked the following trophy:

Hardcore Mode (G)

Nightmare Mode (G)

Platinum Badge (P)

General Control/Gameplay Tips

Controls

:ls: - Move player

:rs: - Aim weapon

:triangle: - Change player

:square: - Lock on to enemy (Normal/Hardcore difficulty only)

:circle: - Pick up alternate weapon off the ground

:cross: - Point in the direction you want your cop buddy to go

:l1: and :r1: - Rotate camera view

:l2: - Melee/arrest enemy

:r2: - Fire weapon

 - Zoom in

 - Zoom out

Tips and Strategies

  • Always zoom out with  so that you can see a larger area around yourself. This lets you get better shots on farther enemies and lets you take them out before they’re even close enough to shoot you.
  • Always use the assault rifle. It’s the best gun available as it has the most ammo and is always 1 - 2 hits to kill an enemy with your damage stat maxed out.
  • Avoid using lock on on the lower two difficulties. Since you can’t use it on Nightmare difficulty you don’t want to become dependent on it on the lower two difficulties. It’s better to get used to aiming with the screen zoomed out and watching your reticule, as it will turn red when you are lined up with an enemy and if it’s red when you shoot you’ll hit an enemy as bullets always fly exactly where you point.
  • Remember that you can rotate the camera. Use this to your advantage to see where enemies farther ahead are. This is also very useful to remember in levels that have you surviving waves of enemies, because they are very easy to take out of you rotate the camera so the enemies come from the top toward you.
  • Bring your partner with you. You partner might be mostly useless, but they are completely useless if you just leave them at the beginning of the level. If you don’t want to try to use them in a tactical manner like the game wants, then just make sure to bring them to each room you clear by pointing somewhere and hitting :cross:. It’s easier to have them near you in case you die and they can also be slightly helpful if you need to back away from enemies.
  • Draw enemies towards you by shooting doors. This is probably the most useful bit of advice you can follow, as it allows you to exploit the AI and get through the game very easily. Enemies aren’t able to move and shoot at the same time, they also have to be within about half the screen distance to you before they’ll stop and try to shoot. Lastly, they are alerted of your exact location when you shoot a door and destroy it. You can use all of this to your advantage to easily take out all enemies. If there are enemies in a room with a door, hang back and shoot the door to alert them of your location, then just mow them down as they all run towards you.

Only the best of the best earn the right to wear a platinum cop badge.

Congratulations on your shiny new platinum badge.

6cb.jpg  1000 Kills (G)

Kill 1000 criminals.

This will come naturally over the course of playing through the three difficulties. Arrests don’t count toward this total, so you should be avoiding doing them for the most part after you have grinded out your Cop XP in the first level. This total is cumulative across all levels and counts through all deaths and restarts. The kill total trophies will be awarded as soon as you reach the required number of kills.

761.jpg  All Arrests (G)

Arrest all criminals in any level.

For this trophy you must arrest all criminals in a single level. In order to arrest an enemy you must press :l2: to melee attack when at close range. This trophy is most easily earnt on Mission 1: Venice Beach Donut Store whilst playing on Normal difficulty. There a total of 6 enemies in this level.

General tips for arresting enemies:

  • Watch the enemies movement patterns and only enter the room they are in when their back is facing you. If you don’t shoot the enemies will only notice you if they see you, so as long as you are behind them you can run directly up to them.
  • Lock onto enemies before entering a room to you don’t miss when melee attacking them.
  • Upgrade your cop(s) before attempting this trophy, especially your health level so if a criminal does spot you and starts to shoot you still have time to arrest him before you are killed.

2fe.jpg  All Missions (G)

Complete all the game missions in normal mode.

Normal mode is the easiest difficulty level available in the game, represented by the pink shield with the mustachioed cop in it. Enemies deal less damage than on higher difficulties, you inflict more damage, and you are also able to lock onto enemies by pressing :square:.

To earn this trophy you must finish all 8 regular missions (green signs) and all 5 bonus missions (blue signs).

a3b.jpg  Game Completed (G)

Complete all 8 main story missions.

The main story missions are the 8 green numbered signs in the level select menu. It doesn’t matter which difficulty you finish the levels on for this trophy, just as long as you finish all 8 at least once. This trophy will be awarded on the score screen after you finish the 8th level.

224.jpg  Hardcore Mode (G)

Complete all the game missions in Hardcore Mode.

Hardcore mode is the middle difficulty level, represented by the blue shield with the skull in it. Enemies normally spawn as slightly higher powered variants with more heavy weapons earlier. They also deal a bit more damage, but other than that there isn’t very much different from Normal difficulty.

To earn this trophy you must finish all 8 regular missions (green signs) and all 5 bonus missions (blue signs) on Hardcore difficulty. The trophy will be awarded on the score screen after you have finished all the levels on this difficulty.

f03.jpg  Max Stats (G)

Fully upgrade a Cop and purchase all weapons.

In order to upgrade your cop and purchase additional weapons you must earn XP by completing levels. At the end of each level you will receive a performance grade, i.e. A (4 XP points), B (3 XP points), C (2 XP points) or D (1 XP point). Each grade earns you a certain amount of XP points. Your overall grade is determined by a combination of factors, including - Kills, Accuracy, Arrests, Damage, Level Restarts, Cop Deaths and Civilians Killed.

Each cop has the same 4 attributes that can be upgraded, these include - Speed, Health, Damage and Clip Size. Each attribute must be upgraded to the maximum level, which is 20 XP points. Each of the 6 cops starts off with around 6-7 XP points distributed between the 4 attributes. As such, you will need to earn around 90 XP points to fully upgrade a cop and purchase all weapons (Shotgun = 2 XP, Uzi = 3 XP, Assault Rifle = 4 XP, and Grenade Launcher = 5 XP). To access the upgrade menu press :cross: on the player and then navigate upwards and press :cross: again on the symbol above (see image below).

GfOaj3G.jpg

To view the upgrade screen select the cog above the chosen cop’s head

3Toeij8.jpg

What the upgrade screen looks like once all upgrades and weapons have been purchased

It is worth noting that XP is only earnt for the cop in which you selected first when choosing your two players. As such, make sure you consistently choose the same cop when playing the game, as XP earnt is not interchangeable across the 6 different playable characters.

The easiest way to farm XP is by replaying Mission 1: Venice Beach Donut Store whilst playing on Normal difficulty over and over, arresting all enemies. The level can be completed in approximately 0:20 seconds and each run will net you 4 XP points if you have arrested all enemies without dying.

0fc.jpg  Nightmare Mode (G)

Complete all the game missions in Nightmare Mode.

Nightmare mode is the hardest difficulty level available in the game, represented by the horned skull in the red shield. Enemies are normally all the higher level variety and most carry shotguns and assault rifles. You also aren’t able to use lock on in this mode, which is why should have been avoiding using it before.

There is a possible bug (or design choice) where the first two and a half levels of this difficulty are one hit kill no matter what enemy shoots you. These levels are the hardest in the game because of how cheap the AI can be, so these ones you need to be careful on and make sure you’re taking out enemies before they get near enough to shoot you. After those levels the game is no more difficult than the previous two difficulties were because you should always be killing enemies from far away.

To earn this trophy you must finish all 8 regular missions (green signs) and all 5 bonus missions (blue signs) on Nightmare difficulty. The trophy will be awarded on the score screen after you have finished all the levels on this difficulty.

262.jpg  No Deaths (B)

Finish any level without losing any Cops.

For this trophy you must finish any level without either one of the two cops dying. This trophy is most easily earnt on Mission 1: Venice Beach Donut Store whilst playing on Normal difficulty. Just take your time and don’t rush through the level. There are only 6 enemies in the first level so you shouldn’t have too much difficulty. For general tips on how to best play without being hit, please refer to the No Hits trophy description below.

1da.jpg  No Hits (G)

Finish a level without any of your Cops getting hit.

For this trophy you must complete a level without either one of your cops being hit by an enemy. This trophy is most easily earnt on Mission 1: Venice Beach Donut Store whilst playing on Normal difficulty. This level is by far the shortest, and only contains 6 enemies.

General tips:

  • Upgrade your cop's Health level in the character selection screen to increase the amount of damage they can take before dying.
  • Lock on to and shoot enemies from a distance as they will only shoot at you when they are at a close range.
  • Do not try and melee the group of three enemies in the last room of the level if they are close together as you will likely be shot. Sneak through the door and lock on to them from a distance with your gun.
  • As soon as you have killed one enemy, quickly press :square: to lock onto the next enemy.

Geez, what took you guys so long? The game has been out almost 24 hours now!

Seriously though, guide looks great. I will wait for a price drop, but will certainly nab this at some point. :applause:

Yeah I think it is worth checking out. Not as bad as I thought it would be, but waiting on a price drop is a good idea.

Thanks for guide, ggamer. Looks like Nightmare mode will be somewhat frustrating to finish. Only have three story missions (6 to 8) and all side missions left for my plat.

It's actually not to bad to be honest. Just try lure guys out of the room as opposed to going into the room to kill them. That way y out can just stand back from the doorway and they will file out for you which makes them a lot quicker and easier to kill. I found a little bit of strafing left to right whilst shooting helps as well. Good luck

Congratulations. For what it is, I thought it was a fun little game. A little repetitive, but at least it is short so it doesn't get overly boring.

It's an all right game to pass up the time if you're looking for a quick platinum, but I feel the game is overpriced at this time. It's more of a $5 game than a $15 game tbh. Once the prices drop on the PS Store, a lot more people will pick up this game.
