Petition to Sony to stop calling boosting cheating!

I am wanting to start a petition that I will personally send to Sony getting them to stop calling boosting "disruptive" and "cheating."

After getting transferred a few times up to a "corporate supervisor" (Lee) at Sony he stated that I violated a "community code of conduct," and that they "will dictate how you play our video games in our community," and that "boosting is cheating," even though it doesn't expressily say so in their terms and conditions.

They say that boosting gives us an "unfair advantage" in the community by giving us abilities that we would not normally have. The problem with this is that it actually does not help us fight the numerous really good KZ2 (or any other game) players as the additional skill does not ever translate to ease of beating the people that play the game not for the trophies.

They said that the reason that I buy my games (for enjoyment of getting trophies as painlessly as possible) is wrong, and that I should not ever boost a game, which personally violates my reason for purchasing the game in the first place.

This seems like an attack on this whole site's purpose of getting trophies easier... and needs to simply be stopped. They said that if I submit a letter to their "Panel of Management" that they would review the case.

They simply have to understand that there are 2 completely separate communities: 1) those that play the game for stats, and 2) those that play for trophies. We can live together in peace, or stop doing online trophies.

Write your name and sign in ID in a reply if you want to be added to the petition. We likely need as many names as possible, so if a moderator likes the idea and has an idea on how it can reach more people... that would be great!

I wouldn't sign the petition as I'm not a great fan of boosting, but if its not in the T&C then Sony can't really argue the point against boosting. Game devs should do more to ensure that the online trophies on their games are boost proof if Sony thinks this is such a problem...

I agree. If boosting is such an issue then you should not be able to do it. We got a psn ban the FIRST and only time we got caught boosting. How would people know that boosting is not allowed if you are not even warned first? In my eyes there is absolutely nothing wrong with trophy boosting. I do not and have not in any instance felt like I am doing anything wrong when I boost for a trophy.

Add me to the list!

Even your signature at the end says that you will boost if the trophies are stupid... well most casual gamers don't have 40 hours in a week to get the valor trophy, or get good enough to compete against the veterens.

Even if you admit that it is not cheating and doesn't affect others then you should still consider signing it.

I found something kind of ironic at the us.playstation site. This is what Sony has in their description on their forums for an explanation of what you'll find in there (notice that they want you to talk about ways to cheat):

Killzone 2 (PS3)

Join the Killzone 2 PS3™ forum at PlayStation Community for the complete collection of cheats, reviews, trophy guide, tips and more about Killzone 2 PS3™.

That was from this link if you'd like to see it: http://community.us.playstation.com/community/games/shooter/killzone/killzone-2-(ps3)

Silly sony...don't they know that cheating and all other forms of cooperation are against the killzone 2 rules?!

Well boosting really is 'cheating', but it's not something that should be banned for. Especially not being in the ToS and they just throw it at someone like that.

Boosting is an exception to me cause it really doesn't harm other players, the boosters are in their own room doing their thing in games that allow them to do that at least with private slots.

And, there are times when people get older games that have lots of online requirements... but the online community is dead.

So you have two choices:

Never get the trophies.

or

Boost.

So either online trophies should be banned from games or at least not be apart of the Platinum (which would still be unfair since evne tho you got Plat you'd have to sit without the full $100), or Sony should stfu and pay more attention to the people actually hacking and disrupting games to get their trophies instead of being good and making their own room with other boosters to get the trophies in peace.

See I don't believe, and have never even thought that boosting would be anywhere close to cheating. Is a client of mine cheating by hiring me to help show them the best way to get to good health, since it creates an "unfair advantage" for that person that can hire me over someone that cannot? That was Sony's reason that it was cheating, and I'm sorry but I don't believe in socialism. Designing a cooperative effort to both achieve an otherwise difficult or even sometime impossible (due to time restrictions) goal is not cheating. It's simply using our brains to achieve what the trophy requirements are in the most efficient manner possible. Efficiency isn't ever cheating unless you hurt others to get to your goal. Boosting doesn't affect anyone else negatively, therefore it cannot possibly be construde as cheating.

You can had me to the petition:

I personally believe there's 3 sorts of boosting:

1: There's the "COD" style stat padding where people get together to cheat and glitch their way to the best gear.

2: The "Lost Planet" and "Fight Night Round 4" style trophy ransoms where selfish people work together to deny others key trophies or try and force others to pay for access to them.

3: The "EndWar" style co-op boost where you work together to obtain otherwise hard or impossible to get trophies, especially if it's in a private match.

Boosting for trophies is never wrong, especially if it's for hard as hell or dead games like KZ2, RE5, Resistance 2 etc. Boosting is only ever wrong if it's in a game were there's no online trophies.

Instead of going after trophy boosters, they should be focusing on the hackers, glitchers, of which I've seen loads on the KZ2 and Resistance 2 servers and the Trophy Hostage Takers.

Boosting wouldn't be necessary if the online trophies for some games weren't a pain to get.
