Introduction

Titled All Blacks Rugby Challenge in New Zealand, Wallabies Rugby Challenge in Australia, and Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge in the rest of the world, Rugby Challenge game builds on the emotion and adrenaline of world class rugby union from club rugby through to international competition. Developed by Sidhe and published by Tru Blu Entertainment, it features 98 teams, 31 stadia, and 11 competitions, as well as 7 domestic competitions, and 5 international competitions. Commentary is provided by former All Blacks Justin Marshall and Grant Nisbett.

If you are new to rugby, the game has a Rules Video which can be found under Training in the main menu.

Trophy-wise, getting the offline trophies does not take very long, approximately 6 hours at most if you decide to simulate all the matches. If you do decide to play through the matches, they can be played through on any difficulty. Needless to say, it will be much quicker playing on Very Easy than on Pro, but the choice is ultimately yours. Obtaining the online trophies is more time-consuming, however. It is necessary to play out 50 matches in full, which can take approximately 4-5 hours.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Training

Earning gold medals in each training run will give you a significant boost towards (G) Bank of Toulon. If you are new to rugby in general, it is recommended you watch the Rules Video. Even if you are new to this specific game, it is recommended you do the tutorials to make it easier in obtaining specific match-related trophies.

By the end of getting gold in each training run, you should unlock the following trophy:

(B)

No School Boy Difficulty Here

Step 2: Competitions

As previously mentioned, it is quickest if you simulate the matches as opposed to actually playing them. If you do decide to play through manually, consider attempting to unlock some of the trophies from Step 5: Miscellaneous trophies / Cleanup play. You need to win all the matches in World Rugby Championship, playing as high-ranked team will make it more likely for you to win the competition. You only need to complete Rugby 15, Quad Nations, ITM Cup, and Top 14 Orange (Rabodirect Pro12, Tri Nations, Euro Nations, Euro Club Championship, Aviva Premiership Rugby, and Bledisloe Cup Series are not necessary).

By the end of playing through the necessary Competitions, you should unlock the following trophies:

(B)

Where Is Tim Timber?

(B)
Super, Thanks For Asking

(B)
There's No Forfeiting This One

(B)

(G)
World Champ Domination

Step 3: Career Mode

Like in Step 2: Competitions, it is recommended you simulate the matches as opposed to actually playing them. If you play through manually, consider trying to obtain trophies from Step 5: Miscellaneous trophies / Cleanup play. Playing as a low-ranked team and selecting to play international games only will make the playthrough quicker for two reasons: they are less likely to progress past the group stages in the World Rugby Championship, and are not likely to play in competitions outside the World Rugby Championship.

By the end of career, you should unlock the following trophy:

(G)

Hardcore Fan

Step 4: Online

You will need to complete at least 50 matches online to obtain the online trophies. It is possible that you will unlock some of the trophies from Step 5: Miscellaneous trophies / Cleanup play whilst completing the online matches.

After completing the required number of matches, you should unlock the following trophies:

(S)

Good Sport

(G)
Online Captain

Step 5: Miscellaneous trophies / Cleanup play

If you have not previously unlocked these trophies, you will need to play matches and perform the specific in-match tasks required to unlock most of them. (G) Conversion Point Pro can only be achieved on Pro difficulty, and the other in-match tasks are recommended to play on Very Easy. By the end of playing online, you should have enough money to unlock (G) Bank of Toulon and (G) (H) Tribute. You will also need to perform specific game tasks.

By the end of cleaning up the remaining trophies you should unlock:

(G) Online Captain

Complete 50 online matches

This can be achieved by completing 50 online matches. The trophy will unlock after the 50th match.

These can be private or public. (I can confirm this from personal experience). You must stay until the very end of the match for it to count (rage-quitters don’t count). You can see how many public matches you have completed by going to Play Online, and then Leaderboard. Private matches do not show up in the online leaderboard, but they still count.

This trophy can be boosted. Please see the trophy boosting thread for boosting partners.

(B) Tall as Metcalfe

Win 60% of lineouts in a match that aren't thrown by your team

In order to unlock this trophy, you must win over 60% of opposition lineouts in a single match. The trophy will unlock after the match has ended.

To win a line out that isn’t thrown by your team, shift the players up and down a lineout by using  or  and then press :circle:, :cross:, or :triangle: to make your player jump and contest the lineout. You will win a lineout if your player grabs the ball and then places it on your side of the newly-formed maul. If you do not unlock this trophy during your normal playthroughs, this can be easily done by playing on very easy and playing as a high-rated team (such as New Zealand [91/100] or Lomu All Stars [96/100]) against a low-rated team (such as Germany [45/100], or Spain [48/100]).

(S) (H) Oh The Memories!

Score 4 consecutive tries with Jonah Lomu vs England

As the description suggests, you must score four consecutive tries with Jonah Lomu against England to achieve this trophy. The trophy will unlock after you have scored the 4th try.

This trophy is easiest achieved playing on very easy. Jonah Lomu features in the Lomu All Stars team. He always plays on the left wing (number 11), and this trophy is easiest if you hold and press :l1: (or :vital:) to pass the ball wide and left and then :r2: (or :touchpad:) to sprint to the try line (some fending may be required using ). Conversions are not necessary and will not stop you from achieving this trophy, but you will not be able to get this trophy if you interrupt Lomu’s try-scoring streak with another playing from your team scoring.

Below is a spoiler tip on how this trophy can be achieved easiest.

[spoiler=ddrbgeib5483]Team Lomu can also be used to obtain this trophy as it is solely comprised of Jonah Lomu.

(G) World Champ Domination

Win the World Championship Competition without losing or drawing a match

The description is self-explanatory; to unlock this trophy, you must win the World Cup Championship by only winning all the matches. The trophy will unlock after you have won the competition without losing or drawing a match.

This mode can be found under Competitions at the main menu. If you lose or draw any matches, the trophy will not unlock. This trophy can easily be achieved by playing as a high-ranked side (for example, New Zealand [91/100], Australia [88/100], or South Africa [86/100]) and simulating the matches. An easy way to simulate the matches quickly is to press :r1: (or :vitar:) to switch tabs to Fixtures and press :left: or :right: to bring up My Team. You can scroll down to the final match and press :cross: to simulate the matches up to that point. You will need to manually simulate the matches after pool play has finished. For extra security, you may wish to actually the play the final knockout matches instead of risking simulating and losing. If you simulate them, however, the trophy will still unlock.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1133/07.jpg

(B) Possessed

Maintain Over 60% possession in a match

In order to unlock this trophy, you must maintain over 60% possession in a single match.

For tips on how to do this, see (B) This Is My House.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1133/08.jpg

(B) This Is My House

Maintain over 60% territory in a match

In order to unlock this trophy, you must maintain over 60% territory in a single match. The trophy will unlock soon after the match is completed.

If you do not unlock this trophy during your normal playthroughs, it can be easily done in a similar way to the previously mentioned (B) Tall As Metcalfe (by playing as a high-ranked team against a low-ranked team). At the end of the match, it will show the statistics for the game, including the possession and territory for each team. If you are having difficulty, a tip is to stay in the opposition’s half (preferably the 22 area) and pass the ball from one side of the field to another, ensuring that you get enough players to the ruck each time to maintain control over the ball.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1133/09.jpg

(B) Lack of Discipline

The ref calls one red card against you

In order to get this trophy, you must have a player on your team red-carded. The trophy will unlock after your player has been red-carded.

To get a player red-carded, you need to make a point of performing dangerous tackles (by pressing :triangle:) when running at the opposition ball-carrier. To be red-carded (sent off for the remainder off the match), the same player has to be yellow-carded (sent off for 10 minutes) in the same match. If more than three of your players are yellow-carded at the same time, you will forfeit the match. As of update 2.00, this is easier by going to Help & Options at the main menu, selecting Gameplay, and setting the High Tackle Frequency to the maximum. A tip is to play a two-player match for the maximum duration (80 minutes).

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1133/10.jpg

(S) A Gentleman’s Game

Do not concede more than 2 penalties in a single match

To unlock this trophy, you must not concede more than 2 penalties in a single match. The trophy will unlock after you have completed the match.

This trophy will not unlock if you concede more than two penalties in a single match. To name a few, penalties may be awarded for high tackles, offsides, forward passes, or knock-ons (please note that this list is not exhaustive). If you do not unlock this trophy during your normal playthrough, it can be done easily by playing as a high-ranked team against a low-ranked team for a short duration match (5 minutes is the shortest possible time limit).

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1133/11.jpg

(G) End-To-End

Make a try-scoring run which starts within your own in-goal area

To unlock this trophy, you must score a try from a run that originated in your own in-goal area. The trophy will unlock soon after you have scored the try.

You must run the length of the field without being grounded in a tackle after the player receives the ball in the in-goal area. If your player receives the ball to begin with outside the in-goal area (but runs back into the in-goal area) then scores, the trophy will not unlock. A tip is to start with a ruck close to your in-goal area (for example, the 5-metre mark), and press :r1: or :l1: (or :vitar: or :vital:) and then either :cross:, :triangle: or :circle: (depending on how far away the furthest passing option is; you want to pass it as wide as possible as quickly as possible) to pass the ball back and wide to a player for them to run the full length of the field. The more contested the ruck, the more the opposition (but also your own) players will be drawn towards, or become involved in, the ruck. This can result in their wings becoming more exposed, allowing you to run the full length of the field (or sideline) and score. You do not have to successfully convert the try for this trophy to unlock.

(G) Conversion Point Pro

Score a conversion on pro difficulty

To achieve this trophy, you must successfully convert a try (for 2 points) or a penalty (for 3) on Pro difficulty. The trophy will unlock soon after the conversion is successful.

A tip is to play as a high-ranked team against a low-ranked team for a long duration match (the most is 80 minutes) and to score as many tries as possible under the goalposts (so you have more chances to kick from the best angle to kick from, thus a better chance to convert). On the PS3, press :cross: to place the ball. To get the kick in the exact direction you want, you must press :cross: when the two white lines meet at the white line in the centre. If you press :cross: in the blue area, the kick will be roughly on-target. Outside the blue area, the kick will not be on target. On the Vita, tap the :touchscreen: to place the ball. Flick from the ball to the goalposts using the :touchscreen:. For obvious reasons, better goal-kickers will make it easier to convert; New Zealand’s Daniel Carter is one of the best in the game and will make it easier to get this trophy. Wind speed and direction will affect the ball when it is in the air, so it is best to try unlocking this trophy playing on fine weather conditions.

If you are having difficulty with this, you can try the following tip from MrMinderbinder:

Start a Pro World Tournament where you are New Zealand. Your first opponent will be Wales, so drop Wales' slider stats into the toilet. As soon as the match starts, switch sides to make yourself Wales. Allow New Zealand to run over you and score the try. Allow them to kick the conversion (which they will make almost all of the time in Pro mode). As soon as the kick has fired (but before it goes through the posts), pause and switch sides. Congratulations! You just got credit for making the Pro difficulty conversion which you had absolutely nothing to do with!

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1133/13.jpg

(G) Team Player

Win 10 matches, each as a different team

To unlock this trophy, you must win 10 matches, each playing as a different team. The trophy will unlock when you win as the 10th team.

This trophy will not unlock if you simulate matches. You must actually play the game for it to unlock. This can be achieved by playing on any difficulty.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/1133/14.jpg

(S) Played for Our Sins

Win a match with 2 players sent off

In order to get this trophy, you must have two players on your team red-carded. The trophy will unlock after you win the match.

To get a player red-carded, you need to make a point of performing dangerous tackles (by pressing :triangle:) when running at the opposition ball-carrier. If more than three of your players are yellow-carded at the same time, you will forfeit the match. As of update 2.00 for the PS3, this is easier by going to Help & Options at the main menu, selecting Gameplay, and setting the High Tackle Frequency to the maximum. A tip is to play a two-player match for a long duration (the maximum is 80 minutes, although this is not recommended because you still have to play out the rest of the match). You must ensure that you ultimately win the match.

Break through a full back with Jonah Lomu

You must break through a fullback’s tackle when playing as Jonah Lomu to unlock this trophy. The trophy will unlock soon after you break out of the tackle.

This trophy is easiest achieved playing on very easy against a low-rated team. Jonah Lomu features in the Lomu All Stars team. He always plays on the left wing (number 11) and fullbacks are typically the number 15 at the centre and furthest back. This trophy is easiest if you press :l1: (or :vital) to pass the ball wide and left, then :r2: (or press the :touchpad:) to sprint at the fullback (fending may be required by pushing ). You do not have to score for this to unlock.

Below is a spoiler tip on how this trophy can be achieved easiest.

[spoiler=23ir594tn49]Team Lomu can also be used to obtain this trophy as it is solely comprised of Jonah Lomu.

To unlock this trophy, you must complete Career mode. The trophy will unlock when you have finished the career.

It is easiest if you select International only and simulate all your matches. You will need to play up to the year 2023, but cannot simulate multiple matches at once. It is also easiest if you select a team such as Germany or Spain, given that they are unlikely to progress past their group stages in the World Rugby Championship.

(G) Bank of Toulon

Collect $100,000 Rugby Dollars

To unlock this trophy, you must have a total balance of $100,000 at one time. This trophy will unlock once you have an available balance of $100,000.

After you have completed a match, there will be a yellow in-game pop up in the top right-hand corner showing your available balance. You can also view your balance in the Rugby Store from the main menu. Completing training with all gold medals will give you around $40,000. Winning a game online gives you $1000, whilst losing or drawing will give you $500. Winning a single offline match will give you $500, but completing a tournament (such as Quad Nations, or World Rugby Championship) in Career mode will give you $1000. Selecting a lower-rated team means that you are more likely to be knocked out of the tournament early, but you will still get the same reward regardless of whether you win or not. Simulating games offline is a much quicker way to earn money given the resulting reward is the same if you actually play the game.

If you get bronze or silver medals on your first attempts at getting gold in every tutorial (see (B) No School Boy Difficulty Here for more information) and then get gold, the extra money from the bronze and silver tutorials is added to your gold tutorials. This means you get slightly more money than if you gold got in every tutorial to begin with.

An online win rewards you with $1000 and an online loss or draw rewards you with $500. If you draw all your games (if you have a boosting partner, see (G) Online Captain for more information) you will get $25,000 but if you alternate wins and losses you will get $37,500.

Credit to crazyjava for both of these tips.

(B) No School Boy Difficulty Here

Get gold medals in every tutorial

To unlock this trophy, you need to get a gold medal in all of the 28 tutorials (across four difficulties). This trophy will unlock after you have obtained a gold medal in all the tutorials.

You can find the tutorials under Training in the main menu. Each tutorial has instructions for learning the moves and controls of the game. You will be assigned a task relating to the game skill or control, and depending on how well you do it, you will be given a gold, silver, or bronze medal. Needless to say, gold medals are awarded for doing the task best. If you have tried the tutorial and not obtained the gold medal, it will give you hints on how to obtain the gold medal for that task. Each of the four difficulty levels has a percentile rating. Achieving gold in each of the seven tasks for that difficulty will raise the percentage to 100%. You must achieve 100% across all four categories. You do not have to watch the Rules Video or do the Run Around to achieve this trophy.

Create and save a custom player

To unlock this trophy, you must create and save your own custom player. The trophy will unlock as soon as the custom player is completed and saved.

You can create a custom player by going into Customise from the main menu, then Players, and then Create Player. You do not have to make many changes at all for this trophy to unlock.

Have fun and enjoy!

Hope this helped,

I don't know if some of you still want to plat this game, but here are some tips.

After the trainings I had a bit more than if I had gotten all the gold medals on my first try.

So for the first step , try to get the silver medals first then the gold, it seems that the amounts from the silver and the gold add themselves = more easy money in the end.

Also, for the online part: if you can find a boosting partner for the 50 matches, alternate wins/defeats.

A defeat/draw rewards $500 and a victory $1'000, so if you do only draw games you can earn $25'000, but if you alternate you make $37'500!

Training (which is quite easy) will guarantee you $44,800 ($1600 * 28), all in about 30 minutes. Any silvers you get will net a bonus $500 (only if earned BEFORE the gold), and any bronzes you get will net a bonus $100. Theoretically, if you figured how to botch the trainings perfectly for both bronze and silver, you could get $61,600. However, I believe that silver is impossible in many trainings (you get gold, bronze or nothing), and in others only gold is possible (you get gold or nothing). Like, for example, in kicking the conversion. Either you make it or you don't.

Still, forget the silvers and bronzes. Just run through the training (the occasional screw-up will mean a few silvers and almost $50,000 from training). After which, you can simulate Career Mode tournaments to the tune of $4000 every 8 minutes. Between training and simulations, I got my $100,000 in under three hours. I know that I could have just waited and earned the money from online matches and other sources, but I was impatient and wanted the grinding out of the way. At any rate... this is by far the fastest way to get the $100,000.

That's a way to do it I suppose. :)

Although I did mine after the other trophies (career mode, online, stuff like that), which ultimately meant that there was less money to be earned so the grinding didn't take as long.

Online pass required by any chance?

No, no online pass is required. I've added that info to the guide. Thanks for pointing it out. :applause:
