How to systematically complete each optional dungeon - it's easy-to-do & efficient!

Although I am new poster here, I have enjoyed this site and am currently enjoying this game very much!

I have found a systematic way to go through the optional dungeons, and I am sharing it here. I hope it is helpful.

This will be broken into three parts. This will show what you need to do BEFORE you enter the optional dungeon. Then, it will show what to do in your first Trip through the optional dungeon, and then again for your second Trip.

BEFORE entering a dungeon:

1) Do NOT enter optional dungeons that are at/above your current level.

2) Make sure that you are a few levels above the recommended minimum - better yet, be 10 or more levels above.

3) Compare your current Tome > Bestiary to see which beasts in the dungeon which you have already defeated. Once you see a monster listed in your bestiary, you do NOT have to find it again in the coming dungeon if you choose not to go after it

4) Save your place in THREE separate save-files.

5) If you do not care about ranking with other players on the internet, DISABLE your PS3’s internet connection. (There is an occasional glitch that happens when you complete an optional dungeon. That is, after you are given your rank, the game attempts to connect online to add your achievement to compare against other players. If it fails to connect, the game screen freezes, and the ONLY solution is to turn the PS3 off. SO, to prevent that from happening, I recommend disconnecting from the internet for optional dungeons.)

Once you know the above info completed, you will now be making TWO trips through the dungeon.

TRIP #1: Get the S-rank.

1a) If the "mission" of the optional dungeon is to simply run to the end and defeat a Boss monster or get to an event at the end, then you will NOT fight any other monster along the way in this first trip. From the Start all the way to the Final point in the dungeon, run all the way using ONLY the Save-then-Load "trick." (That is, figure out the "feel" of how long to run between each Save-Load action, it is usually around 15 to 30 seconds. The key is to run as far as you feel is "safe" enough to go without triggering another fight, and then Save the new position. After you Save it, immediately Load that same file you just saved. This Save-Load "trick" triggers a delay in monsters attacking you so that you can run even farther toward your goal.) The clock stops exactly where you SAVE, and it re-starts at that Load too. The advantage of this Save-Load "trick" is to be able to run all the way through the optional dungeon without having your time interrupted with a battle of any kind. Compete the Final "mission" and voila, you "should" have an S-rank.

1b) If the "mission" of the optional dungeon is to defeat a number of regular monsters (whether to defeat a specific one a number of times or for getting a specific Item Drop), you will not be using the Save-Load "trick." However, you wil still be using Save and Load a lot. That is, after each battle with the "needed" monster(s), Save right away afterward, but do NOT Load right away after that. Rather, you WANT to let a new monster-battle be more easily and quickly triggered as fast as possible. If the newly triggered monster-battle does not include the "needed" monster, you do not want that "waste of time on the clock." So, you can either QUIT the game entirely (at the PS-push-button level) and RESTART from your last Save, or you can fight the battle (if it is fast enough) and then, because you will NOT Save afterward, go right to LOAD your last Save position to re-start from your last successful battle with a "needed" monster. Additionally, this method can also be applied if you use the "Monster Call" bell-ringing system (with Compa - or with Nisa, too, if you have the latter installed to fight from DLC).

The point of this Trip #1 through the optional dungeon is to get the essential S-rank. By achieving that goal first, you will NOT have to worry about getting it again. That means that you are then free to consume how ever much time it takes in Trip #2 to achieve everything else you need from the dungeon.

TRIP #2: Get everything else.

The reason you looked at your Bestiary BEFORE you entered the dungeon is because, once you are inside the dungeon, that Tome is no longer available for you to see - until you get back out of the dungeon.

You now have three objectives in this Trip #2.

1) Defeat the specific monsters listed for the dungeon - especially the ones listed as exclusive only to the current dungeon. You only need to defeat a listed monster ONE TIME for it to appear in your bestiary. Any listed monsters that you might have previously defeated do NOT have to be defeated again. And once you defeat them fir the first time, you do not have to fight them again. That means that, once you have defeated all listed monsters for the dungeon, you may thereafter run through the rest of the dungeon using the Save-Load "trick" so as to avoid wasting any more time than you need to spend.

2) Open all the Treasure Chests, including the hidden ones. Use the "Treasure Search" to find hidden ones (a special skill of IF - or of Gust, too, if you have the latter installed to fight from DLC). Save immediately after every Treasure Chest is opened.

3) Summon Clione. As you will eventually see in your bestiary, there are several level-variations of this same "summoned" beast that is always weak to EARTH bullets. Stand inside the purple glowing circle and then use Compa's (or Nisa's) "Monster Call" bell to "summon" Clione to the fight.

CONCLUSION

By using this system, you will be able to confidently know that you have correctly done everything you need to do in every dungeon, and you will be able to do it as fast as you want to, too!

This systematically helps you stay focused on efficiently achieving these two end-of-game trophies (and having fun doing it!):

Speedy Hunter - Obtained S Rank in all Time Challenges.

Histoire Enthusiast - Obtained all content.

Every time you complete an optional dungeon for the first time, be sure to go see 5pb's Hi-Five Radio event before doing anything else. (The newly posted message will always directly relate to the optional dungeon that you just completed.)
