Introduction

Welcome to the Guardians of Middle Earth! This game is reminiscent of titles such as DOTA (Defense of the Ancients) and LoL (League of Legends). This online game is rather fun and can keep you on the edge of your seat especially when the timer is at one minute and lower!

There are a few match types within the game: There is Battleground which you can play normal or elite(which unlocks at rank 2), and there is a 3-lane map and a 1-lane map in each Battleground.

3-Lane is a bigger map and means you've got to be a bit more strategic, and because there is quite a bit of space, enemies will give the run around.

1-Lane is the smaller map and will pit you against enemies in more of a close quarter combat style. At the moment, 1-Lane is best to try and play as it loads easier and less disconnections from what I have heard.

Normal Battleground is 5 players vs 5 players, however is there is no-one about, the team will be filled in by AI.

Elite Battleground is 5 players vs 5 players. Unlike Normal, the game will not start until all 10 human players have been found.

Skirmish is a bit different. It's 5 players vs 5 AI, like Normal Battleground, if no-one is about then the team will be filled in by the AI. So far, the only trophy you can get from Skirmish and Custom games is Honor in Death, I've tried getting the other trophies in Skirmish but, unfortunately, the rest have to be gotten in regular Battleground matches.

Roadmap

Due to the GameSpy closure, only "Honor in Death" is still possible.

Step 1:

Before you begin to even start playing, go to the tutorial. Not only will you learn how to play the game, you'll also unlock a Guardian for free; Gandalf. Even if you've played other games similar to this, such as League of Legends, it doesn't hurt. You'll learn how to play (especially if you're a beginner), and you'll get a feel for what the game is like.

Step 2:

You're ready for the Battlegrounds! Battleground matches are the only type of match you'll be able to earn the bulk of the trophies. I suggest doing this solo and not boosting as most trophies are easy, plus the game is rather difficult to boost.

It's very difficult to get a boost session going with 10 people, especially in Normal or Elite battlegrounds as most times, you won't get paired with each other, or you'll end up being disconnected. The only sure fire way of playing with all 10 is a custom game. However trophies cannot be earned in custom games.

Here is a little more in regards to battleground and types:

Normal Battleground: Normal Battlegrounds can be played with either human players or AI. If human players cannot be found then the match will begin with AI. Normal battlegrounds also have a 20 minute time limit

Elite Battleground: Elite battlegrounds can only be played with human players and won't start until 10 players have been found. There is no time limit; games will only end when the opposing team's base is destroyed.

Trophies can be earned in either battleground mode most but it's best done in Normal battlegrounds as most times, playing against AI is generally easier/less time consuming. And you're more guaranteed of getting in a match quicker than Elite, thus cutting down overall time needed to play/earn 100%.

Play either Normal or Elite (I would suggest Normal 1-lane matches) Battlegrounds and learn as you go! You'll start learning little tips and tricks the more you play, and you'll start figuring out which Guardian suits your play style. In each match you'll want to play as a different Guardian type (Warrior, Striker, Defender, Enhancer, Tactician. You can also buy more Guardians for a cost of 5000 gold), and try to win those matches to unlock their respective win trophies. Please see the There and Back Again trophy description for some tips on winning!

During each match, capture shrines! You need to capture fifteen to unlock the Capture the Power trophy.

Depending on what Guardian you are depends on when you're able to get another trophy, Ultimate Vengeance. Galadriel and Wulfric have ultimate moves that does not inflict any damage. I suggest Agandaur or LugBol for this. However, for the (MVG) Most Valuable Guardian trophy, I suggest using Galadriel: if you use your special moves, and even the ultimate ability, when your team is killing the opponents, you'll get a kill assist. Just remember to keep in the back and run if you're being attacked. Be cautious!

During this step, as said, capture shrines. Also, upgrade towers (upgrade it first and make sure you keep upgrading), and soldier dens (same as towers) whenever you're at a level to upgrade. Keep moving. If you're lucky, go in and destroy the enemy tower! Sometimes, you don't need to worry about not getting any kills, especially if you're going after the MVG trophy. You should be able to get five accolades in each match.

Once this step is complete, you should get the following trophies:

Honor in Death

Ultimate Vengeance

Rise to the Top

Warrior's Mettle

Strike Hard, Strike Fast

Defend to the End

Enchanted

Fortified

(MVG) Most Valuable Guardian

Seasoned

Collector

Capture the Power

Step 3: The clean up!

You should have 12 trophies from step 2. Now there are three trophies left, two which can be quite time consuming and you may need to play more than 25 matches (25 is the minimum, if you can win each and get the Renowned trophy too). You should have lots of gold from playing from step 2. You can buy some gems and relics to help make Renowned a lot easier. After this step you should have the following

Renowned

Notches in the Axe

There and Back Again

Congrats! You've gained 100% in Guardians of Middle Earth!

TROPHY GUIDE

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1560/6C1.jpg Honor in Death (B)

Fall on the Battleground

Super easy: this will probably be the first trophy you get whilst playing as it pops when you die. This trophy can be gotten in both normal Battleground mode and Skirmish mode.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1560/F9E.jpg Ultimate Vengeance (B)

Use an Ultimate Ability to defeat an Enemy Guardian in any Battlegrounds Match.

Neither this nor any trophy below it for this game can be obtained any more thanks to the servers closing.

Enemy Guardian's are the main 'characters,' so to speak. Gandalf, Gollum, Galadriel, Legolas etc, are all Guardians. These are the ones you want to go after.

This trophy must be gotten in Battlegrounds: it will not unlock in Skirmish mode. Each character has an ultimate move via :triangle: : when you reach level 5 in game, and have spent 3 points (in either the :square: move, :cross: move or :circle: move), you'll be able to spend a point in the ultimate move. The ultimate move is activated by using the triangle button, and has a longer cooldown time compared to the three 'lesser' moves.

There are two characters(so far), that cannot be used for this: Galadriel and Wulfrun, as their ultimate moves don't do any damage.

I've found the best character to use is Agandaur. He is truly overpowered and makes this trophy simple to get. You'll notice when you use a move, a white orb appears around him, up to three orbs. You can use these orbs to power up the X move, which, in turn, makes the next move that you do, be more powerful. Now, get into a Battleground's match, preferably 1-Lane. You'll want to reach a high level before trying this. The more points you put into both the :cross: move and :triangle: move, the stronger it is. Charge up, hide in the bushes, get an enemy in sight and unleash his ultimate move! If they don't escape in time they'll perish, netting you the trophy. This move can destroy an enemy even with full health.

Be aware of a few things:

A) If they have a purple shield up before you are able to pull off the attack, wait until it's gone. The shield will absorb the impact damage.

B) The enemy is able to move out of range even while the attack is still going. Try to do this when they have less than full health.

C) You can be hit, stunned, and the attack will be canceled. Once stunned, you'll most likely die. So always be on the lookout.

Reach Level 14 in any Battlegrounds Match

You should get this relatively quickly. Play a Battlegrounds match (again, Skirmish matches don't unlock the trophy), and it should unlock during natural match progression. You can speed things up by killing the smaller soldiers for extra experience. 20 minutes is more than enough time to reach level 14. In each match I've generally always hit it.

Earn 20 Guardian Kills in any single Battlegrounds Match

Probably the hardest trophy to get. Get 20 kills in a single match, and it has to be Battlegrounds. Normal or Elite doesn't matter. Here is a wonderful guide by jday222 on how he got 20 kills, plus the loadouts. So please thank him and credit goes to him!

I'm an experienced player. I'm top 20 on leaderboards for 1Lane games. Prestige 4 Rank 12. I hope I can help you guys with the 20 Kills.

I've got 20+ kills multiple times with Lugbol, Aganduar & Galadriel. I use the same load out for all three. It's geared for max ability damage, with protection and health regeneration/life steal for healing since you will need to get quite close to groups of guardians for multi kills. Again this is just what I use, you can create your own load out or tweak mine. Just make sure if you do that it's geared towards AB Power and AB Penetration to do the most damage.

Edit 1/15/13: Added Agandaur To Guide - Another option for players trying to acquire Renowned Trophy.

Loadout

Tendric Relic - +16 AB Power per level, 20% Life Steal on Abilities

Gems - +24 AB Power, +24 AB Power, +24 AB Power, 5% Ability Cooldown

Black Gate Relic - Ability Usage blocks 20 Damage per level, While shield active +10 Ability Power per level

Gems - +6 AB Penetration, +6 AB Penetration, 1.6 Health Regen

- Dying will make it very difficult to reach 20 kills. Make sure to have the Heal command and heal potions ready to go to get you out of tough spots if needed.

- Each characters :triangle: ability doesn't unlock until level 5. For Lugbol once you reach level 5 start leveling up Furious Flames immediately.

Lugbol - When you receive level ups build in this order. Furious Flames :triangle:, Fiery Grasp :circle:, Snuff Them Out :square:, Ashen Wolf :cross:.

Lugbol is extremely powerful and it's quite easy to get multiple kills at once. First off have your wolf casted out and running about. Once enemies are grouped together cast Fiery Grasp, this will do good damage and also lift the guardians into the air making them immobile for a second, follow up with Snuff Them Out, and finish with Furious Flames. Furious Flames is long range attack good to end with incase they start running away. This tactic when leveled to 14 and using my load out will do 950-1100 Damage

More experienced players or if you get comfortable can revert to this tactic. Cast on a group in this order Fiery Grasp, Ashen Wolf (takes 2 secs to cast but does damage when casted on enemies) Snuff Them out, Furious Flames. For this tactic you will have to get pretty close to the enemy group for it to work. This tactic when leveled to 14 and using my load out will do 1100-1250 Damage.

- Each characters' :triangle: ability doesn't unlock until level 5. For Agandaur once you reach level 5 start leveling up Shockwave immediately.

Agandaur - When you receive level ups build in this order. Shockwave :triangle:, Over Charge :cross:, Nothern Bolt :square:, Dark Assult :circle:.

Agandaur is the most powerful character when it comes to Ability Power. His Shockwave ability can easily take down guardians with " 1 Hit " kills. He is quite simple to use and in my opinion boring but he is very good at getting Multi Kills. Once leveled up to acquire the Shockwave Ability. You want to position yourself in the woods that are in the middle of battlefield. Once enemy guardians are in the middle of battlefield use the Over Charge Ability (this will add penetration and added damage to your next ability) Then let loose hell with the Shockwave ability.

- Seasoned players are very aware of this tactic so you want to try to enter the woods undetected. If you get detected more than likely enemy guardians will go after you. Agandaur is very weak and can be killed easily vs any other guardian. If you are detected attempt to teleport back to safety using the Dark Assault ability.

- If your team takes down the first tower there is another patch of woods you will want to hide in and attempt to get kills. The patch of woods is in between the shrine and second tower. Once enemy guardians move in front of their second tower they will be in range of your Shockwave. Once the second tower is destroyed you will be at the enemy base. Stay behind your team and out of range of their base towers. Pick your spots carefully to get those final kills.

Galadriel - When you receive level ups build in this order. Golden Gaze :cross:, Grove :circle:, Power of Nenya :square:, Evening Star :triangle:

My favorite way to get kills is to lay the Grove down near or on top of the enemy, Hit them with Golden Gaze this will pull them into your grove or keep them inside the grove, follow up with Power of Nenya which will trap, stun and keep them in the grove longer. Make sure to be using your basic attack as well, You will be inflicting damage 3 ways as well as healing yourself using this tactic.

When going for this trophy of course you want the match to last as long as possible (20min). I'd suggest playing with a few friends and do not attack the towers. This should make the game go the full 20min distance.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1560/803.jpg (MVG) Most Valuable Guardian (B)

Earn a combined Guardian Kill/Assist Streak of 8 in any Battlegrounds Match

Pretty easy despite the name/wording. You can get a combination of kills/assists, or simply go for assists! Using Galadriel and focusing on buffing/healing your team when they're fighting the enemy. If the Guardian gets killed while buffing/healing, you'll get an assist. However, be aware of your surroundings and make sure you stay back and out of the fray just in case. If you die, the streak resets itself.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1560/74B.jpg Seasoned (B)

Earn 5 Accolades from any single Battlegrounds Match

Accolades are earned by doing things in game. Please note that the trophy will unlock at the match end screen, not during the match!

Start off by capturing the shrine, and try to capture the second shrine if you're able to. Upgrade towers and keep upgrading them, and do the same for the soldier dens. Try to be the one to get the final blow upon the enemy tower. You can also run around the map, try to have the least deaths and healing for you get an accolade for each. If you have zero kills, you also get an accolade. Doing all these will net you enough accolades to get the trophy(you can get first shrine captured, most shrines captured, first tower upgraded, most towers upgraded, first soldier den upgraded, most soldier den upgrades, first tower destroyed, least deaths had, least healing, zero kills). Don't just try for five: aim for more accolades in case things go south.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1560/CE7.jpg Collector (B)

Kill or Assist a Guardian from each Class once in any Battlegrounds Match

You need to kill or assist a guardian to get kills from each class. It's easier than it sounds, especially if the enemy is all AI as they tend to have a member of each class. You can get this while going for the MVG trophy. Must be done in a single battlegrounds match!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1560/5B3.jpg Capture the Power (B)

Capture 15 Shrines total in any Battlegrounds matches

This is cumulative. Just capture shrines in each match you play and you'll soon get the trophy. Very very easy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1560/F41.jpg Notches in the Axe (S)

Earn 50 Accolades total in any Battlegrounds matches

This is cumulative. Just keep earning accolades and when you reach 50 of them, the trophy will pop. Again, it will pop on the end menu screen where the stats of the game is shown. Just keep doing what is says in Seasoned and you'll get it in no time.

Win 25 total Battlegrounds Matches

This may be your last trophy to get. You need to win a total of 25 matches in Battleground, doesn't matter what class you play as. Winning can be difficult, especially when the team has good players (AI and human), or if your team mates tend to get themselves killed (running to the enemy with low health).

Some tips to help win a match:

- Play as a team. They may be AI, they may be human, whatever is on your team, play as a team. Are they low on health and you can heal them? Heal them. Got some buffs to help lessen damage? Use it!

- Try to get first blood. First blood worth 11 points(and sometimes you can win with that one extra point), and can sometimes be the difference between a win and a lose

- Don't be reckless! If you are low on health, then run. No shame in that. You don't want to die and the enemy gain 10 points, especially if it can be avoided. Don't chase the enemy too much: they tend to run behind their tower and if you're in range, the tower will fire at you.

- When able, go hit that tower! I generally run through the bushes, use adrenaline and attack the tower a few times, run back. Doing this when the enemy is engaged in battle, you can chip away at the towers life before it's destroyed. Just remember to run back after a few hits or the tower might kill you. Destroyed towers are worth 50 points.

- Know your guardian. Learn what their special abilities do and when to best use them.

- Upgrade towers and soldier dens. Capture shrines. Don't let the soldiers attack your towers! Kill 'em before they get a chance! Killing enemy soldiers also earn a little extra experience.

Hi RaineStryke I edited my Renowned Trophy Guide to include Agandaur as another option to try and obtain the trophy. You may want to update your guide to reflect it. Thanks for using my guide.

Hey man, thanks for letting me know :) Have edited that in. And anytime! Thank you for writing up a helpful guide for getting 20 kills :)

Great job Raine thanks for this... I'm looking forward this game but I hv 2 Q:

What will be your personal difficult? and it's a good game or average?

Thanks! My first guide too so that does mean a lot to me :) My personal difficulty would be around a 4 or 5. It's quite easy, the only difficult trophy is Renowned. And the 25 wins trophy is more time consuming than difficult. Even if you're new to MOBA style games it's quite easy to get the hang of(in my opinion)

I find it's a good game. I didn't like League of Legends much(that's probably due to lag from my laptop. It sucks for gaming xD), but I have really enjoyed this game. One thing that can get frustrating is the matchmaking and how long it can take, and disconnections. It's hard to tell if it's rage quitters, or legit d/c xD The match does continue if people quit(and sometimes it makes the game easier to win if those who d/c are on the enemy team since they don't get replaced by AI xD)

Other than that, I give it a thumbs up. Really have been enjoying it so far, which is a surprise since MOBA games are still very new for me.

All right! sounds pretty playable! will give it a try definitively! How much cost in the PSN? 15 USD? or it's a retail ?

It's really fun! For PSN plus users in EU the game is free. Unfortunately it's not free for NA users but it does cost $14.99 for the game alone, and $29.99 for the game plus a season pass. And yep, that's in USD :)

Thanks for the guide, unfortunately to me, this game is awful.

Framerate is deplorable.

Movement speed ruins the pacing/tempo MOBA games usually have.

The "Ancients" look bland.

For a game with so many spells, none of them are impressive or visually appealing.

Music score is repetitive.

You lose all your points/money when host quits mid game.

My opinion: Your Guide - 10/10 Guardians of Middle-Earth - 4/10

Good guide. I just wanted to add that I found the Renowned trophy simpler with the below loadout, it is also much cheaper than the loadout in the guide.

Durin's Day (+5% attack speed for every yellow in belt) (2 slot yellow with attack speed gems)

River Running (+4% movement speed for every yellow in belt) (2 slot yellow with attack speed gems)

Goblin Fury (+7% attack speed for every basic, stacks up to 5 times) (2 yellow attack speed gems and a red life steal gem)

Each of these was using just the 1000 gold gems instead of the 5000 gold gems. Also Durin's Day and I believe River Running or Goblin Fury were both free relics.

I put this loadout on Legolas and went to town. I've no doubt that Haldir would be an even better option as his abilities could further increase attack speed. What I did was just spam the basic attack for the most part, I did occasionally throw out the slow down (when the opponents ran)or resistance dump(if they bumped themselves) abilities but for the most part all damage was done with standard basic attacks from the outskirts of the battle.
