Overview:

  • Estimated difficulty: 4/10 (Personal estimate for the time being)
  • Estimated time to platinum: 10-15 Hours
  • Offline trophies: 48 (1 (H), 39 (B), 5 (S), 3 (G), 1 (P))
  • Online trophies: N/A
  • Minimum number of playthroughs required: 1
  • Number of missable trophies: None
  • Glitched trophies: None
  • Do cheats affect trophies?: N/A
  • Does difficulty affect trophies: Yes

Step 1: Play through the game on Hard, completing all the side quests and collect all the treasure chests, as well as orbs

This is one of those games where you will earn the majority of the trophies by simply playing through the game. With the recent patch, you can now play on Hard mode from the get go (prior to the update, you had to complete the game at least once before Hard mode is unlocked for you).

To unlock Hard, enter the following code in the main menu:

:left:, :right:, :left:, :right:, :square:, :triangle:, :square:, :square:, :select:

With that said, Hard difficulty in this game is not hard, but it is challenging. Please see "That was Hard Mode?" for some general tips.

In this first playthrough you will want to collect most if not all of the chests you come across on your adventure for two reasons. One, for a trophy of course, but most importantly, chests are what grants Juan upgrades to his health, stamina, as well as money for him to purchase upgrades from the shops. For a list as well as a complete map of each dungeon, please refer to "Who put these here???" in the guide. You will also want to complete all the side quests that are available to you. They can all be found and completed within the towns you start them in, and there isn't a whole lot of them. Like treasure chests, completing side quests grants you heart and stamina upgrades as well.

In addition, before stepping foot into the final area where you face the final boss (you'll be notified), you will want to collect the 5 Orbs that are scattered throughout the game. This will require you to complete puzzles, a series of deathmatches, and what is perhaps the most challenging thing about this game; the platforming sequences.

Finally, if for some reason you're still missing some of those miscellaneous trophies, such as the "kill enemy x with y), go back to the corresponding dungeon to get them.

Step 2: Clean up

If for some crazy unexplained reason you're still missing some trophies after completing the game, clean up by either traversing back to a specific dungeon/town post-game, or start up a new game and refer to the method to unlock them. Otherwise, enjoy your new shiny platinum!

[spoiler=XTabay]Uppercut to knock her off balance, then punch and grab her to throw for massive damage. You can't dodge her fireflies, so just stay out of the way. When she teleports to the middle of the arena she will spike the area below the platform; quickly jump on the platform to avoid getting hurt. At 50% health she'll stay on the ground and constantly teleport around. Simply wail on her whenever she materializes. When she stops and looks like shes preparing to charge, back away from her thunder cloud; you can't dodge this attack either. She will eventually split into two, then three, when she's at 30% health. The same strategy applies, although you'd want to focus on one target instead.

Defeat Flame Face

Story related, cannot be missed.

[spoiler=FlameFace]Flame Face is not difficult nor anything special. His tactics comprises of simply teleporting around and then shooting at you with his revolvers. Jump away or roll to dodge. Every time he materializes, smack him. Occasionally, enemies will appear in the other realm, so just switch dimensions and dispose of them.

When he has around 30% of his HP left, he’ll flood the rink with lava. To counter this, simply switch realms to change it to water.

Defeat Jaguar Javier

Story related, cannot be missed.

[spoiler=JaguarJavier]Javier is a bit more challenging than the previous two bosses. This guy is relentless with his attacks. He will attack you non-stop not to mention he doesn't stagger, so you only have very brief windows to damage him.

His attacks comprises of a dashing attack, a battle cry attack that results in a vertical beam thing to surround him, and two types of sword attacks. First one is just a simple swing of his sword that creates a wave of fire, and the second one where he performs a overhead swing that creates two waves of fires as he lands. The former attacks can easily be dodge with the tap of a roll. The sword attacks however, it is preferred you jump and dodge midair to prevent yourself from getting hit by them, as the fire waves have a long reach.

Otherwise, just continuously hit him with what you can during the brief windows, destroying his shields with the corresponding a technique whenever that's needed, and he'll fall.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/972.jpg Boom-Shack-Calaca (S) :tagstory:

Defeat Calaca

Story related, cannot be missed.

[spoiler=Calaca]Calaca's tactics are very similar to Flame Face; he will teleport around the screen. The only difference is he'll switch between the realm of the living and dead. Every time he materializes he will be cloaked in a colored shield. As always, break it with the corresponding :circle: move. Fortunately, breaking his shields in this battle also damages him, so simply keep at it until you deplete his health bar. Calaca's attacks wise are very powerful and take a lot off your health if they land on you. They are however easily avoidable. Much like the fight with Javier Jaguar, make sure you dodge by jumping away. Rolling away doesn't do much good since the fires that result from the slam can still reach you.

His second phase is actually not as challenging. As soon as the battle begins, destroy his shield before you wail on him. Note that he will occasionally put one back up so pay attention. Assuming you're going for the "Up Close and Personal", you are only allowed to damage him using physical attacks. All this basically means is you can't grab the meteors falling down at you and throw them at him. In addition to :square: attacks, :circle: move-sets will not void you the trophy. All of his attacks are easily avoidable: He'll shoot blue projectiles at you, perform a slam fire attack (make sure you jump, very damaging). For his fire blast related moves, you'll be able to see the outlines of the attack beforehand, so simply stand in between or underneath to dodge them.

If you're not going for the trophy, just grab the meteors as they are falling down and throw them back at him. You are invulnerable during the action, so take advantage of that.

Access the alternative ending (collect all orbs)

Orbs are additional collectibles that you can collect in Guacamelee. Whereas stamina masks or heart pieces are used to strengthen Juan, orbs serve another purpose. You need to collect all the Orbs in order to unlock an alternate ending. There are a total of 6 orbs for you to collect. Note that you will not be able to collect most of the orbs until you learn the last ability of the game, the Goat Fly, so do not worry about collecting these until after you complete the Sierra Mountains dungeon.

Their locations are:

  • Agave Fields - Head back to your house once you've obtained the ability to swap through dimensions with the click of a button. Make your way to the bottom floor and stand in the rightmost corner. Transform into a chicken, then swap dimensions, if done right, you'll gain access to the underground portion of your house. Complete this maze (you want to go clockwise), to reach the portal at the top.
  • Caverna del Pollo - Whereas the first two deathmatches rewarded you with health, money, and stamina upgrades, you will be rewarded an Orb by completing the third and final arena deathmatch. Pick it up inside the portal that you gain access to after finishing.
  • Forest del Chivo - Look for a skull switch in the dungeon, located under a hill on the right part of the dungeon, accessible only via Pollo Power. After you hit it, what you want to do is run back out from the left, and onto the hill you were just underneath. Snatch onto the wall here and Goat Fly to the left. If you performed correctly you will smack dead center on to a floating platform with spikes. Immediately drop down and you should be able to drop through the tunnel. The orb is located through this portal
  • Tule Tree - From the Olrec Head, head into the tree trunk. Jump down the platform immediately inside, and you'll see a blue block on the right corner. Destroy it and goat run up to what is by far the hardest platforming challenge in this game. Complete it to reach another portal at the top and claim another orb
  • Sierra Mountains - Once you've earned the ability to fly like a goat, head back to the section entrance of the dungeon, and keep progressing like you'd normally would until you jump over a huge gap. You'll enter a room with cactus enemies, and what you'd want to do here is grab the wall on the left here and align yourself with the door to the right. If done properly, you'll jet yourself to the right, pass the door and fly through the sky until you hit smack dab onto a floating "house". Complete this teleporting platforming section to reach this orb.
  • The Great Temple - Face the boss here once you have collected the other 5 orbs, and you'll earn the final orb upon defeating him.

Once you've obtained 5/6 orbs, in addition to an alternate ending and the trophy your Pollo Power gets an upgrade as well. You now have the ability to fly! Simply turn into your chicken form and let loose with :cross:.

Teleport through an Olmec head

Olmec heads serves as your fast travel stations in this game. You'll run into your first Olmec head as you're leaving Santa Luchita for Temple of Rain. However, you'll have nothing to fast travel to. After completing the following dungeon, you'll drop down to another Olmec head. Use it for the trophy.

As you will be doing quite a bit of backtracking in this game, you'll be making use of these statues anyways as running back on foot is quite time consuming. It is quite hard to miss out on this trophy.

Please see "The Never Ending Combo" for details.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/3AF.jpg Shopaholic (B)

Spend $10000 in the store

Shops are those purple undead ritual stations you pass by through towns and in dungeons. In addition to serving as in-game checkpoints (not to mention your only method of saving in the game), they also serve as a shop. You'll have to buy all the items from the shop anyways for another trophy, so you'll unlock this naturally. Simply spend a total of $10,000, doesn't have to be at once, to unlock the trophy.

Please see "Cleaned Out" for a complete list of items you can buy from the store.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/99B.jpg Catch the Rainbow! (B)

Connect with all six special attacks without touching the ground

In order to attempt this trophy, you must have unlocked all possible techniques from Choozo Statues first. You will unlock your final technique during the course of Sierra Morena dungeon. You must perform the following techniques on an enemy, without touching the ground:

  • Rooster Uppercut -+:circle:
  • Olmec Headbutt - :circle:
  • Frog Slam -+:circle:
  • Dashing Derpderp - :lsleft:/:lsright:+:circle:
  • Goat Run - (while clinging onto a wall with :triangle:)
  • Goat Fly - :lsleft:/:lsright:+:triangle: (Hold, while clinging to a wall)

Thanks to unnxandros for the following tips:

Catch the Rainbow: Best place to unlock it? The Cave (Lower, right corner exit of La Luchita). The cave is an optional map. It consists of three sets of deathmatchs. The best way to get Catch the Rainbow is the first match of the third set. Why? There's a single enemy (a Huge Cat or Leopard), the room is small and the enemy is covered white a white shield aura, meaning that we can't harm him till we hit him with normal attacks. How to get the trophy. Well, try to get the enemy next to a wall. Once he is there I use the following combo:

+ :circle: (1) > Enemy will go Airborne.

:circle: (2) > Enemy will fly to the wall.

:lsright: or :lsleft: (Aim for the closest wall) + :circle: (3) > enemy should be next to the wall + hold :triangle: to grab the wall.

Hold :triangle: + (4) > You will wall run, and will give you the chance to escape his next attack.

Slide down and aim for the body, Hold :triangle: + :lsright: or :lsleft: depending the location of the enemy (5), and inmediatly after :cross: (once or twice) + :circle:

sounds complicated, but believe me its easy.

Defeat a Chupacabra using only Slam

Chupacabras are those flying dragon-like enemies that you will run into mid-game. You will first encounter them in Desierto Caliente. For the purpose of this trophy, you must damage and kill one of these enemies using only the Frog Slam (+:circle:). Do that to unlock the trophy.

You will run into these enemies numerous times throughout the game and enemies respawn once you exit and reenter a dungeon, so you can attempt this trophy at any time.

Destroy a Block using Uppercut

Story related, impossible to miss. You'll need to destroy these blocks to continue with the game.

Red blocks can only be destroyed by the Rooster Uppercut. You will earn this technique in the Forest del Chivo. This will be the first technique you learn. It is performed by +:circle:. Note that In addition to destroying red blocks, this move is also what is required to destroy the red shields surrounding an enemy (when you're introduced to shields).

Yellow blocks can only be destroyed by the Olmec Headbutt. You will earn this technique in the Temple of Rain. It is performed by :circle:. Destroy a Block using Dash Punch

Story related, impossible to miss. You'll need to destroy these blocks to continue with the game.

Blue blocks can only be destroyed by the Dashing Derpderp. You will earn this technique in the Temple of War. It is performed by :lsleft:/:lsright:+:circle:. Note that In addition to destroying blue blocks, this move is also what is required to destroy the blue shields surrounding an enemy (when you're introduced to shields).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/EE8.jpg Stop squirming (B)

Defeat an Alux using only Headbutt

Aluxes are those imp/goblin-like enemies that you will run into a few hours into the game. You will first encounter them in the Temple of Rain. However, you will not have access to the Headbutt technique until you progress a bit more into the dungeon. Shortly after earning the technique, you'll eventually be forced into an arena battle with a few Aluxes and skeletons. For the purpose of this trophy, you must damage and kill one of these enemies using only the Olrec Headbutt (:circle:). Do that to unlock the trophy.

As with other enemies in the game, you will run into these enemies numerous times throughout the game and enemies respawn once you exit and reenter a dungeon, so you can attempt this trophy at any time.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/5FA.jpg Giant Killer (B)

Defeat 3 giant skeletons

You will be forced into battle with these Giant Skeletons over the course of the game, so this trophy is pretty much impossible to miss. You will fight three of them as part of required battles in the Temple of Rain.

Despite their size, they are relatively easy to defeat, their only move-set worth mentioning is a slam attack. Dodge or jump over them and simply wail on them with punches to their torso until they die; the headbutt works wonders. Note that the skeletons you must defeat are the big green armored ones as pictured in the trophy tile, and not the medium sized ones that wield weapons.

Complete the Missing Doll quest

This side quest is located in Pueblucho. The person you want to speak to is located in the rightmost house. Note that you must have the Dimension Switcher in order to complete this quest. In the right most house, in the world of the dead, speak to girl inside. She wants her toy, which is in the world of the living in the very same house. Jump down to the basement, dimension swap back to the living to pick up the toy, then swap again to return the toy. Use dimension swap and give it back to her.

These 3 Mariachi members are looking for their 4th band member. In order to get to this band member, you must have first have access to the Dashing Derpderp technique. Once you have it, head to the bottom right house and you'll see four blue blocks covering the room to the right. Simply destroy them, they'll reunite and perform and reward you with a heart piece and trophy.

Complete the World's Greatest Enchilada quest

This side quest is located in Santa Luchita. The lady you want to speak to is located in the upper section of the town, inside Isabela's Kitchen. She is looking for four ingredients to make the biggest quesadilla in the world. She needs the following items:

  • Fresh Cheese - Under Hermanos sign, bottom area, next to mine building. Guy with sombrero.
  • Beans - Underneath right kitchen, woman holding fruit basket above head. Beneath ORLY owls billboard.
  • Insane Dead Chili - World of Dead, purple poncho skeleton on the stairs near the top.
  • A Ton of Tortillas - Woman beside bike in upper section of town, beside a flame face wanted poster.

I am not sure if the locations for these locations are random. Nonetheless, the locations of each of these items are all done by talking to NPCs around town. You will have to talk to Isabella again before you can grab the next ingredient. Retrieve all four ingredients for her, and she'll reward you with a mask piece and the trophy.

Complete the Chicken Herding quest

This side quest is located in Pueblucho. This quest is available to you right away, and will probably be the first quest you complete, shortly after saving the town from skeletons.

Speak to the man next to the church to initiate. He wants you to help herd his chickens in his house as they've all escaped. The chickens are all located in the Casa Del Pollo building. See that cage like hole on the right of the house? That's where you want to knock the chickens into. For the chickens on the bottom floor, you'll have to grab the chickens with :triangle: to throw them up. Herd all the chickens, and return to the man for a heart piece and the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/B21.jpg Gumshoe (B)

Complete the Chicken Thief quest

This side quest is located in Santa Luchita. The man you want to speak to is located in the upper section of the town, next to the entrance to Desierto Caliente. You can start this quest as soon as you're required to head to the Desert as per storyline, but you won't be able to complete it until you complete Tule Tree.

Once that's done, the man will inform you that the infamous chicken thief has stolen his treasure and he wants to to get it back. The chicken you're looking for is beside the Viva Pinata house on the bottom section of the town. Speak to him inside, and he'll force you to play a three round game of cups (his other two gang members being the the other two cups). The game gets progressively harder and unfortunately the order is random. When you've finally bested him three times, he'll admit defeat and award you with a heart piece and the trophy.

Complete the I AM ERROR quest

This side quest is located in Santa Luchita. The person you want to speak to is located in the three story house in the upper section of the town. Note that you need the Dimension Switcher in order to be able to complete this quest.

Speak to the girl inside, and she'll inform you of her missing brother, and wants you to look for him. Fortunately, he's not far away; he's simply glitched his way out of the game. Head down stairs, and in order to pass through the wall, teleport to the world of the dead. Head to the left side of this room and teleport back to the living and his brother will glitch back in. Speak to him, then let her sister know he's fine, and she'll reward you with a heart piece and the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/ADF.jpg Poncho'd Out (B)

Complete the Combo Chicken quest (Defeat Poncho forever)

This side quest is located in Santa Luchita. The person/chicken you want to speak to is located in the gym in the upper section of the town. Note that you need to have unlocked the Dashing Derpderp technique first before you can complete this quest. It is also preferred that you come into this with a stamina bar of over six squares, as the latter combos you need to perform require you to execute them in quick succession.

Similar to the "trials" of fighting games, you are required to perform advanced combos with the new techniques you've learned from progressing through the game. Rather than list them out to you here which is totally unnecessary, follow the onscreen commands on the top to perform the required combo. Complete them all and Poncho will finally be able to rest in piece. You'll be rewarded with a heart piece and the trophy as your reward.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/409.jpg Flawless (B)

Defeat an arena without taking any damage

"Arenas" are those sections inside dungeons that lock you in and force you to deal with all the enemies in the ring before you are set free. You'll run into numerous sections of these as you progress through the game, so you have many chances to try and earn this.

However, the easiest place to earn this trophy is located in the Temple of Rain. You’ll reach an area where you will find yourself above a bunch of red skeletons. To defeat them, you must alternate the world by going through the portals back and forth. As they will be throwing bonemerangs at you, simply dodge them with :l2: or the :rs:. Lower them enough so they fall into the lava below and if you didn't get hit, the trophy should come soon after. Note that if you do get hit quit the game and reload to your last save point; there is no going back in this game.

Headbutt an enemy off a cliff

You will unlock this technique as part of the story, in the Temple of Rain. However, you won't be able to earn this trophy till you've reached the Yule Tree dungeon.

Once there, after going through third trunk. you’ll reach an area with Chupacabras and Red Skeletons. Simply perform a headbutt here to any enemy and they’ll fly off the screen. Your trophy should unlock soon after. Note that you can throw them off with a throw, but you must perform a headbutt as required for the trophy.

Soar through the air for 12 seconds using "Goat Fly"

You will unlock this technique in the Sierra Mountain dungeon. Latch onto a flat wall surface via :triangle: (hold), than shoot yourself either to the right or left direction with either :lsleft: or :lsright:. For this trophy, you must accumulate 12 seconds of air before you're interupted using Goat Fly to unlock it.

Supposedly impossible to miss, you'll unlock this through the course of Sierra Mountain. You will come to an area where you must fly through a row of cat statues, and maneuver your way through them by switching back and forth through different dimensions. I however, was not able to earn this here. Instead, an almost guaranteed location that I found to be easily doable is in Desierto Caliente. Next to the Temple of War entrance is a pillar that you can latch onto. Grab the left side of it, and simply fly straight to the left from here. You'll soar uninteruppted here, unlocking yourself the trophy before making contact with the wall on the other side.

Find 100% of the hidden items in a single area

100% of an area in this game, is earned by destroying every possible chest in a destination on your map. Whereas unfinished areas on the map are shown via a bronze medal, a 100% completed area will turn to gold.

You will have to open every chest in the game anyways for another trophy, so you will unlock this through your progress towards it. Once you've earned 100% in a town or a dungeon, the trophy will pop.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/29E.jpg Big Hearted (B)

Complete a full heart upgrade

As with other games, upgrades are available for you to collect in order to strengthen your character. Heart upgrades, obviously, reward you with an extra boost of health. In order to fully complete a heart container you will need to acquire three pieces, either through buying them from the shop or finding them in chests. This trophy is literally impossible to miss, as you'll run into these upgrades consistently playing though the game.

Simply collect three pieces to complete a heart container and the first time you do so the trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/31F.jpg Endurance (B)

Complete a full stamina upgrade

As with other games, upgrades are available for you to collect in order to strengthen your character. As with the heart upgrade, stamina upgrades allows you to perform more :circle: techniques before you need to recharge. In order to fully complete a luchador mask you will need to acquire three pieces, either through buying them from the shop or finding them in chests. This trophy is literally impossible to miss, as you'll run into these upgrades consistently playing though the game.

Simply collect three pieces to complete a luchador mask and the first time you do so, the trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/A96.jpg They hit really hard (B) :tagdifficulty:

Defeat 5 arenas in Hard mode

Mentioned previously in other trophies, Arenas are simply those areas within dungeons that force you into a cage match where the only way to get out is to defeat all the enemies that spawn within it. You won't gain access to Hard difficulty until you beat the game once anyways, so you'll know what I'm talking about. That said, this is impossible to miss out on if you're planning to attempt a Hard playthrough a second time around

Complete five arena battles on your Hard runthrough, which should be after the battle above the Alebrije in the Temple of Rain, to unlock this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/D9E.jpg Green Thumb (B)

Uproot 20 plant enemies

Plant enemies come in two forms. One's you encounter in the Forest del Chivo that pop up and attempt to bite you, and other ones in Desierto Caliente that form spikes. Rooster Uppercut is required to uproot the former, and the Frog slam is required for the latter. I am not sure if throwing other enemies at them counts as "uprooting" them since that also knocks them out from hiding. However for trophy purposes, I'm going to say that it only counts if you knock them out yourself via a technique.

Uproot twenty enemies, and the trophy will pop. Hard to miss this trophy as well, since you'll run into numerous amount of these enemies in your time through a dungeon even if you're running away from everything.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/89B.jpg Boomerang (B)

Defeat an enemy with its own projectile

Another trophy that is hard to miss. The only projectiles that you can knock back, as far as I know, are the green bombs the cactus enemies throw at you in the Desierto Caliente dungeon. The bonemerangs that Red Skeletons throw at you cannot be knocked back I don't think.

Once you've reached the desert dungeon, you'll fight your first cactus enemies. Although you can defeat them by punching them straight out (very difficult) or throw other enemies at them. For the purpose of this trophy, you must reflect one of their projectiles back at them. Dodge the red bombs they throw and wait for them to throw a green one. As soon as they do, grab it with :triangle: and throw it back. They'll die in one hit and you'll unlock the trophy. This is also the best way to dispose of these enemies.

Complete All Side Quests

Side quests in this game are denoted with the exclamation mark (as shown on the trophy tile) above NPCs. Completing these side quests usually rewards you with a heart or stamina upgrade, with the occasional money prize. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of side quests in this game.

Simply complete the following side quests to unlock this trophy. Please see the corresponding related trophy for details on each quest:

  • Reunited
  • Music to my ears
  • Delicious
  • All Cooped Up
  • Gumshoe
  • I AM ERROR
  • Poncho'd Out

Buy all the items in the shop

All those purple shops you run into through the course of the game acts as a in-game shop as well as a dungeon checkpoint. For this trophy you simply need to buy all the available items within the shop to unlock this trophy.

List of available items in the shop are:

  • Health Chunk L1 - 750
    • Health Chunk L2 - 2,000
    • Health Chunk L3 - 4,000

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/D33.jpg The Never Ending Combo (S)

Achieve a 300 Hit Combo

Everything you do during combat, adds to your combo meter. The more unique your move is you use in battle, the higher its worth. Take a hit from an enemy or take too long in landing a hit on an enemy, and your combo will end.

The number of "hits" for your movesets are:

  • [+2] - for completing a :square:x3 combo
  • [+3] - aerial combo :square:x3
  • [+3] - knocking an enemy into another
  • [+5] - throwing an enemy with :triangle:
  • [+5] - performing a :circle: finishing move while holding onto an enemy
  • [+2] - for each enemy defeated
  • [+2] - landing any of the :circle: techniques on an enemy

That said, the above is simply for your reference. It is highly unlikely you will be able to achieve that high of a combo before you have defeated all the enemies on screen. The trick is to go for this trophy on shielded enemies. You'll be introduced to shields in the Desierto Calientte dungeon. To break a shield, you must destroy it with a :circle: move, depending on the shield's color. However, for the purpose of this trophy, what you want to do is instead of breaking an enemy's shield, continue wailing at them with physical attacks. The shield will not break until you use the correct move, but any hits you accumulate adds towards your combo. Perform a 150 and 300 combo to unlock the corresponding trophies. There are many instances you can attempt this and you can do this at anytime. So just find a situation where you're pitted against one or two shielded enemies, and go for it from there.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1568/0A3.jpg That was Hard Mode? (G) :tagdifficulty:

Defeat the game on Hard mode

Hard mode is unlocked for you by either completing the game for the first time, or entering the cheat code (see Roadmap) that has been made available to you from the game's recent patch. Nothing you've collected from your previous playthrough will carry over; you will have to start a fresh new game. There aren't a lot of differences in Hard compared to Normal. Aside from the fact that enemies are much more damaging now, platforming sections remain the same.

Some tips:

  • Whereas you were able to withstand quite a lot of hits in Normal, on Hard Juan can easily be incapacitated from just 2-3 hits. However, enemy fighting patterns remain the same, so just take what you've learned from your previous playthrough and apply it here.
  • That said, you will want to collect as many power-ups as you can while progressing through the dungeons. If you want, you can recollect them all again, although that is highly unnecessary.
  • :triangle: attacks are your friend. They allow you to knock enemies off balance giving you an opportunity to land some hits on them before they get back up or become vulnerable to a throw again.
  • Upgrades wise, I personally grabbed the Piledriver upgrade (+:circle:) and Stun Boost first. Piledriver does a ton of damage to a single enemy, a one-hit-kill often being the case, and Stun Boost lowers the amount of hits you need to land on an enemy before you can throw them.
  • Health and stamina regen boosts should be your next priority. You will have more money than you need by the time you've reached the last dungeon, so it really just comes down to your playing style.
  • Remember that you do not have to fight every single enemy. Aside from arena battles, a lot of enemies can be avoided. To make avoiding them easier, abuse Pollo Power!

Collect every chest in the game

Chests are located within both towns and dungeons. They contain either money (which will always yield $500), a heart piece, or a stamina luchador mask. As grabbing chests strengthens up Juan and allows you to purchase more items from the shop, it is in your best interest to pick them up regardless if you are going for the trophy. Keep in mind that, although you will run into a majority of the chests if you make an effort to explore each dungeon, some chests are unobtainable the first time you discover them. You must backtrack to these sections of a dungeon once you've acquired the required upgrade.

Note that 100% in a dungeon accounts for both orbs and treasure chests. Therefore, if it appears you are missing out on a chest, make sure you've grabbed the orb in the dungeon before cross referencing your maps with the maps posted in spoiler tags below.

Text locations, 100% maps, and video aids (courtesy of MainGameProduction) of each area are listed below:

Temple of War

[spoiler=chest10]

  • After crossing some lava you’ll fight two skeletons in two different dimensions. Dispose of them and look up to see a red block. You'll see the chest before going to the next screen. (Money)
  • Continue heading down and you’ll eventually have to fight two cactus enemies. Past them is a small dimension puzzle. Time your wall jumps to reach the chest. (Heart)
  • Head back up but go up from the left instead. You’ll find a chupacabra and two skeleton enemies. To the right is a hidden-ish platform you can use to drop down. A chest can be found in this small water/lava filled room. (Money)
  • Head back up from the previous chest and go through the flying pillars on the left. You must use the pillars so that you’re grabbing them on the left side to get up. (Money)
  • After going up the pillars and switching dimensions to make your way up, you will reach another shop. See that chicken tunnel to your right? Head through. (Money)
  • Above this is another chicken tunnel. Head all the way up to reach the top of the pillar. What you have to do here is slide down the pillar and time it so that you make your way down while avoiding the gears. (Heart)
  • Shortly after earning the Dashing Derpderp, go back to the room with the giant moving walls. On the top right room is a blue block. Defeat the 3 skeletons in there to reach a tricky puzzle. Here, you must perform a double jump while switching dimensions midair, then perform a Dashing Derderp to reach the platform on the far right. (Mask)
  • Below the last chest is another blue block. A chest is behind this block. (Money)
  • Continue left, pass an arena battle. Rather than continuing through the blue block on the left, go right. Destroy the Exploders in yet another arena battle, then claim the chest in the next room. (Money)
  • Continue progressing up in the dungeon until you see a path heading down that you can drop down by warping back and forth. Instead go up to reach another puzzle. The trick here is to perform a jump as the moving spike block is right beside you, than double jump, derpderp, so you can latch on to the wall on the right. Once the spikes are outta the way, its just a matter of jumping off and uppercutting to reach the platform, than using the chicken form to get on top of the spikes. (Heart)
  • Continue down by alternating realms. Defeat the skeleton and destroy the blue block you come across, then wall jump up to reach yet another shop. You should see a blue block on the left here. Destroy it to reveal another chest. (Money)
  • To get through the next part at the top, you need to jump, dodge, double jump, derpderp punch, then uppercut. After that, continue up and left, and you’ll reach a room where you can see the chest above you. (Money)
  • After the boss fight in this dungeon, can't miss them. Two chests. (Mask)(Money)
  • After free falling down the next section, instead of leaving the room to the right, cling to the right wall and use your newly learned Goat Climb to climb back up. You’ll destroy a block revealing a hidden area, which also houses a chest. (Mask)

  • Jump back down and rather then using the supposed wall to fly, jump down near the bottom of the screen for another wall. Fly here, and you’ll fly underneath to a hidden area. Perform wall jumps, run, and fly to reach the chest at the top. (Heart)

  • After the first arena battle against yellow skeletons, go left to a room full of barrels instead of up. A chest will be blending in on the top left corner. (Money)
  • Next section requires going up vertical room. There is a invisible block on your right (2nd one from the top) that reveals access to a hidden room. Jump across the gap here in this hidden room to earn the chest. Note that there's a tiny pillar for you to land here. (Mask)
  • After flying across a pool of acid, you'll come to a shop. Head up to the room above and use the chicken tunnel on your right. Complete this maze (memorize the path before you do so) to reach a chest at the end. (Money)
  • You will run into this after goat-running up some pillars, can't miss it. (Money)
  • After completing a short portal puzzle, you should eventually see a portal to your left that you can't seem to gain access to. Turn into a chicken here to drop into a slightly obscured hole to reveal a path to it. (Money)
  • You will come to another fork after an arena battle with red skeletons standing above you. Take the right path here, and complete the Alux arena battle here to claim another chest. (Money)
  • Go through some more portals, past yet another arena battle with clawed skeletons. Rather than continue right, go left and frog slam down to create a shortcut in this dungeon. Notice a yellow block here. Behind it is a chest. (Heart)
  • You will run into this chest as you're jumping up floating platforms, can't miss it. (Money)
  • You will also run into this after wallrunning up some floating pillars, can't miss it. (Money)
  • After going through some diagonal portals and checkpoint-ing at another shop, you have the opportunity to drop down and create a third shortcut. Similar to another chest, there is a path here on the right you can go into. Complete this short portal puzzle to claim the chest. (Money)

I just now picked up Rocketman by progressing through Sierra Morena to the top just before seeing Jaguar run away.

There's a section where you use Goat Fly and have to alternate back and forth between worlds with :r2: to avoid hitting statues. Apparently if you time all the swaps perfectly, you'll have more than 12 seconds of flight time in one flight.

Thanks for the text section on how to get chests -- I'll be using that to fill in 100% for areas that I can't figure out on my own!

Ahh very nice, thanks for posting it :D! I'll add it to the guide shortly.

As you're probably aware, that part of the guide is still a mess. I still need a few chests. I'll be spending the next few days formatting it and going through what I have written. Bare with me.

Oh no problem! I figure it'll get filled in nicely as I explore as well, and I can refer back to it when I find an impossible puzzle like the double-vine area in the chicken part of Desierto Caliente (by the second save point from the left). How the heck do you air dodge through two vines?!

Also I figured since I got the trophy immediately after getting Goat Fly, I'd pitch in.

EDIT: I'm sure you'll fill it in the guide as you find them!

EDIT: I figured out the double-vine finally! :)

I messed up on the very last statue, so didn't get it, but you can also fly back to the starting point and since that's above all the statues, you don't even need to change worlds.

how hard would you rate this game personally? there isn't a difficulty poll up jet and I was wondering about it:P

prolly a 3/10 because some of the crazy platforming through dimensional shifts drives me nuts. without those few parts it would be a 1 or 2 /10
