God of War: Ascension Collectibles Location Guide

EEHHHHHH

Recommended Posts

Another God of War game, another set of collectibles. Who would've guessed, right? Well, stop flipping through the pages of YouTube, because collectibles are aplenty, and you will need some meticulous planning if you want to collect 'em all in one playthrough. Let's get right to it, shall we?

A small note before we start though; as with previous iterations, leniency is allowed with Phoenix Feathers and Gorgon's Eyes, but you have to collect the bare minimum in order to unlock the two trophies associated with them. You cannot come up, say, two Eyes short, and just "Chapter Select" your way for cleanup purposes. If you do so, your Gorgon's Eyes count will also reset to the amount you had when you played that specific chapter. Decayed Chests work in a similar way, but Artifacts, on the other hand, are tied to your game data (not to be confused with save data) and the game auto-saves as soon as you collect one, so if you happen to miss one, you can simply collect it via Chapter Select. World Weapons come in abundance as well, so it's okay if you are a bit careless.

For your color coding reference:

  • Gorgon Eyes: There are 28 white chests in the game containing these health upgrades. You need only collect 20.
  • Phoenix Feathers: There are 23 white chests in the game containing these magic upgrades. You need only collect 15.
  • World Weapons: There are five different weapons to be collected throughout the game. Only one can be carried at a time, however.
  • Artifacts: There are 10 artifacts in the game.
  • Decayed Chests: There are 7 decayed chests that can be reconstructed.

Chapter 1: Prison of the Damned

World Weapon (1/5) – Sword: After your first encounter with Magaera's Minions which also serves as a mini tutorial for your Grapple attacks, you will bring down a ledge to create a path, and continue through a door. Once outside, continue up the stairs, and you will hear Magaera give you a warning. Don't go forward through the gate, and instead, grab the sword lying on the ground. If you go past the door, there is no coming back, and you will have to find this particular weapon some other time.

Chapter 2: The Sewers

Artifact (1/10) – Prisoner's Oath Stone: After making your way out of the sewers by kicking open the window, climb up the ledges to reach the top, and pull the lever at the very end. You will see three Magaera's Minions coming out of a gate that was previously locked. Look for this artifact behind that gate.

Chapter 5: The Village of Kirra

World Weapon (2/5) – Club: As soon as the chapter starts, you will notice that the path in front of you splits into two directions. Look for this weapon shining on the ground in front of you on the left.

Gorgon's Eyes (1/20): After grabbing the Club, instead of heading forward, proceed to take the right path at the split until you come to a dead end, and notice two white chests. One of them contains a Gorgon's Eye.

Phoenix Feathers (1/15): Right next to the prior Gorgon's Eye.

Artifact (2/10) – Circe's Vial: After your first encounter with the Elephantaur, you will notice a similar split in the road. Head right this time as well past a sword just lying on the ground. Jump onto a cage, and from it, onto the adjacent house's veranda. You will notice this piece of artifact lying on the ground next to a Phoenix Feather.

Phoenix Feathers (2/15): Right next to the prior Artifact.

Gorgon's Eyes (2/20): In the very next area, you are required to turn a crank counter-clockwise in order to proceed. Ignore that for now, and walk past it completely. The Gorgon's Eye is nicely hidden in the background.

World Weapon (3/5) – Javelin: After turning the crank, you will return to the previous area, and move the cage (that you used to access the previous artifact) around in order to proceed. As soon as you finish your very first rope navigation, look for this weapon right in front of you.

Gorgon's Eyes (3/20): After acquiring the Fire of Ares, and past a dead cow and a green chest, you will jump down an area where you will be ambushed by several long range and close combat Satyrs, and a Satyr General. After dispatching them all, look towards the left side of the area, and you will notice this chest just a double jump away.

World Weapon (4/5) – Sling: After the last battle, continue to move forward, and you will see this weapon in plain view a short walk away just before the next set of enemies.

Gorgon's Eyes (4/20): Towards the end of the chapter, you will use R1 to pull down a pillar (a mini cutscene ensues) to make way into the next area. Instead of climbing up, navigate around the lower area and head towards the right side of the screen. Keep a look out for a white and a red chest that is barely noticeable in a small room.

Phoenix Feathers (3/15): After collecting the last chest, continue heading east, and into an area that houses what looks like a giant rotating multi-layered metal gear. Wait for this Rolling Crusher to pass by, then walk in its direction, and destroy the wooden panels blocking your way into the central area. Experiment with the three levers (you will soon figure out how it works), and make your way across to the top where the two white chests lie. One of them is a Phoenix Feather.

Gorgon's Eyes (5/20): Right next to the last Phoenix Feather.

If you pull the lever in between the two chests, it will stop the crusher, and you will unlock the trophy Round and Round.

Chapter 6: The Cistern

Gorgon's Eyes (6/20): In the room with the statue of a Minotaur, head up, and instead of going forward, walk towards the screen, and the camera will automatically adjust revealing this white chest.

Gorgon's Eyes (7/20): After acquiring the Ice of Poseidon, continue heading forward, and this chest will be right in your path in plain view. You can't miss it.

Chapter 7: The Tower of Delphi

Phoenix Feathers (4/15): After your ride atop the first Python comes to an end, you will have to climb the Tower of Delphi. Once inside, instead of going up the circular path, head down until you reach this chest.

Gorgon's Eyes (8/20): After the last chest, head up, and you will soon be outside of the tower. Run past a ladder (that you're supposed to climb), and you will find this chest at the end of the path beside a red chest.

World Weapon (5/5) - Shield: After you defeat your first Chimera, you will end up sliding down an icy path. At the bottom of this slide, you will encounter your first shielded enemy and plenty of eggs that are about to hatch among other things. Grapple the shielded enemy with :r1:, and repeatedly press :circle: to remove his shield. Grab the dropped shield then, and the trophy “Tools of the Trade” will be yours.

Gorgon's Eyes (9/20): After clearing the area with the eggs, you will use your grappling hook to reach a different location on the same python. As soon as you do that, move towards the screen, and you will see this chest beside a red one.

Chapter 8: The Python's Belly

Phoenix Feathers (5/15): After acquiring the Lightning of Zeus, run past the door, climb up, and before jumping down the platform, walk “towards” the screen (left of the platform) to find this chest.

Gorgon's Eyes (10/20): After collecting the last feather, jump down the platform, and again, walk towards the screen to find this eye.

Chapter 9: Ice Caverns

Artifact (3/10) – Oracle Seeker's Offering: The procedure for acquiring this artifact is very similar to the fourth Pheonix Feather. In fact, these two pieces of collectible are located in the same spot. The only difference is their availability point. Regardless, after the third and the final Python ride comes to a halt, you will be able to ascend the Tower of Delphi once more. Once on the spiraling section, instead of going up, head down to find this shiny collectible.

Chapter 10: The Temple of Delphi

Gorgon's Eyes (11/20): In this chapter, you will be introduced to the concept of Gateway Gas, one that will decay certain things in a room so that you can interact with them in different ways. After defeating your first Cerberus, and interacting with the Gas on the left side of the room for the first time, you will be required to break the door right in front of you to proceed. Instead of doing that, and while the Gas is still active, run to the right side of the room, break the now-decayed wall, and access the chests inside.

Phoenix Feathers (6/15): Right beside the previous chest.

Phoenix Feathers (7/15): After the cutscene, you will be placed in front of yet another Gateway Gas. Use it to break the doors blocking either side of the stairs. For the sake of being in lieu with the video, let's go right first, why don't we. Defeat all the enemies in the hallway you end up in, and move the statue that lies near the middle into the very first room that houses yet another Gateway Gas. Place it such that the panel that falls to the ground when decayed is right on top of it. Climb this newly made path, and grab the feather inside a small cage.

Gorgon's Eyes (12/20): This chest is located right beside the previous Phoenix Feather.

Gorgon's Eyes (13/20): Go to the initial position (in front of the Gateway Gas), and head up the left stairs this time. Grab the movable statue and place it on top of a switch in the very first room of the hallway which houses yet another Gateway Gas. After placing it on top of the switch, activate the Gas, then remove the statue from the switch, and get ready to enter the room in the North, that is protected by two gates, by holding up on your left analog stick. After the effect of the Gas wears off, the front gate will close and the rear gate will open. If you stand still, you will be minced to death. That is why you need to try to keep moving forward. When you get inside the room, one of the chests contain the your twelfth Gorgon's Eye.

Phoenix Feathers (8/15): This chest is located right beside the previous Gorgon's Eye.

Bonus Gorgon's Eyes: Technically, this eye is located in the next chapter, Delphi Catacombs, but because the procedure of obtaining it starts during this chapter, I will list it here. Time is of the essence if you want to obtain this chest, so read carefully. After collecting the last Eye and Feather, you will return pull a lever, and return to the hallway. In order to progress the story, you will go to the end of this said hallway, into the room on your left, and step under the Gateway Gas to collapse the floor around you. Now, as soon as you step out of the Gas, jump down into this collapsed floor, and hurry straight ahead until you see a door that has been decayed to the point that it can now be destroyed. Do so, and you will find this white chest.

Bonus Phoenix Feather: Right next to the previous Eye.

Chapter 11: Delphi Catacombs

Phoenix Feathers (9/15): After you ride the elevator, you will have to move a small round platform by grappling both of your blades onto a Snake Head. After getting to stable ground, walk towards the screen to reveal this chest.

Gorgon's Eyes (14/20): Located right next to the previous chest.

Artifact (4/10) – Aletheia's Charm: Later on, you will swing yet another one of these round platforms and jump onto a giant hourglass. This artifact is located next to a throne after the hourglass.

Phoenix Feathers (10/15): Towards the end of the chapter, you will have to move a crate with a huge head inside into the room with the hourglass. When you've done that, place the crate on top of a switch near the front of the room. This opens up the room in the northwest corner giving you access to your tenth Phoenix Feather.

Bonus Gorgon's Eyes: This chest was not mentioned in the video, so I will just treat this as an extra. In the room with the hourglass, step under the Gateway Gas, and run towards the northeast corner. You will see a door that has been decayed by the Gas. Break it to reveal this Gorgon's Eye.

Chapter 13: Passage to Delphi

Decayed Chest (1/7): In this chapter, you will gain access to The Amulet of Uroborus, which will give you the ability to slow enemies as well as reconstruct various Decayed Chests scattered throughout the game. In your first tutorial about the Stone, after you fix the destroyed bridge, the camera will pan towards the crushed Oracle. Instead of heading straight for her, first go to the end of this newly constructed bridge, and press :l2: + :square: to heal and reveal the chest. It's pretty hard to see , but it's at the left side of the road.

Phoenix Feathers (11/15): Following the cutscene with the Oracle, you will jump onto a tiny ledge. Don't go left, and climb up. Instead, shimmy around to your right and you will eventually reach this hidden chest.

Chapter 14: The Cistern

Gorgon's Eyes (15/20): Located in the same spot as Eye # 6 - instead of jumping down to the room with the statue of a Minotaur, go to the end of a drain to find this chest. The camera will pan out at one time revealing the chest's location, so it's really hard to miss this one.

Decayed Chest (2/7): Now, jump down to the room with the giant statue. Enemies will swarm you. When you get rid of them, leave the room and you will find this chest right in your path in plain view.

Decayed Chest (3/7): From the last chest, continue walking through the corridor, but keep hugging the right wall. Take the first right you see, and then take a left to find this chest in an alcove.

Decayed Chest (4/7): Once out of the hallway and into the open, before you heal the bridge, examine the area in the right to find this chest.

Decayed Chest (5/7): Don't heal the bridge yet. Instead jump down and continue along the path to the east. You will notice this chest right before the small wooden bridge that leads to room with the huge Crusher.

Chapter 15: The Grotto

Phoenix Feathers (12/15): Kratos falling down into the water for the first time in the game will signify the beginning of this chapter. As soon as you gain control of him, dive down and look for an opening on your immediate right. Resurface back up to find this hidden chest.

Gorgon's Eyes (16/20): Located right beside the last Feather.

Artifact (5/10) – Boat Captain's Idol: After dispatching the two Elemental Talos, and decaying the chains to open up a path, dive into the water below and go through the small opening. Continue as usual, and when the camera changes to make it look like a side-scrolling game, keep hugging the bottom floor. You will soon come to a dead end where the only way is up, but before that, you will find this Artifact neatly hidden.

Phoenix Feathers (13/15): When you arrive at the docks with a few ships in sight, walk towards the left side to find this Feather. Boarding one of these ships will progress the story, so as a precaution, do not board any ship yet.

Gorgon's Eyes (17/20): Located right beside the last Feather.

Chapter 16: Prison of the Damned

Extra Gorgon's Eyes: This chest was not mentioned in the video, so I will just count this as an extra. As soon as the chapter starts, you will fight a bunch of enemies. After defeating them, and reconstructing the entire area (Chapter 1 all over again), keep hugging the right wall to reveal a small stairway that leads to this chest.

Phoenix Feathers (14/15): From your beginning location, when you keep going forward, you will have to take a right and enter a small caged area. Instead of doing that, first take a left, and you will find this white chest.

Artifact (6/10) – Orkos' Cloak: Following the cutscene with Tisiphone, go past the blue and the green chests, while still staying within your initial area, to find this artifact on the ground.

Decayed Chest (6/7): After the grappling sequence, you will land at the edge of a broken stairway. Head down, and once inside, take a right to find this chest right in front of you.

Chapter 17: Martyr's Chamber

Gorgon's Eyes (18/20): Solve the first puzzle in this chapter, and you can proceed through a door. Before opening the door though, walk backwards towards the screen, and you will find this Eye.

Chapter 18: Delo's Landing

Phoenix Feathers (14/15): After your encounter with the Elemental Talos, you will climb a small wall and you will be right in front of Apollo's foot. Go left from here, and you will eventually run into this chest.

Gorgon's Eyes (19/20): This time, from Apollo's foot, go right to find this nicely hidden chest.

Gorgon's Eyes (20/20): This next chest is a tough one. In the area with the huge chain that you will have to decay and heal a few times over, first jump up the ledge on the right and free the chain by destroying the restraint holding it. Next, pull the crank up until its mid-position. Next, heal the chain, and then pull the crank to the far left position. Quickly head over to the crate, and push it inside the small opening of the giant wheel. This should stop it from rotating, and make way for you to climb up the left ledge. Do so and you can access this eye.

Bonus Phoenix Feathers: Right next to the previous Gorgon's Eye is this bonus Phoenix Feather.

Chapter 19: The Foot of Apollo

Decayed Chest (7/7): When the chapter starts, scale the walls, and you will reach the top. Before climbing the gap to go towards the left, look for this chest on the right side of the screen.

Chapter 21: The Forearm of Apollo

Artifact (7/10) – Stonemason's Chisel: After acquiring the Oath Stone of Orkos, you will use it to get up a lift. Once at the top, before stepping on the switch, move towards the right, and you will see this artifact shining on the ground.

Chapter 23: The Furnace

Artifact (8/10) – Archimedes' Treatise: From the beginning location, after defeating all the enemies, you will rotate a small gear, and hitch a ride on a platform onto the other side. Keep going and you will reach an upper area with a closed furnace that is currently inoperable. Go to the left side of this room to get this artifact.

Chapter 25: The Furnace

Artifact (9/10) – Statue Worker's Idol: This artifact's location is not to be confused with the 23rd chapter's name. Few minutes in, you will face hordes of enemies in a small platform that raises itself if you keep the fire in the middle burning by throwing them into it. When it stops for the first time, before pulling the crank, look for this artifact at the left corner.

Chapter 28: Trial of Archimedes

Artifact (10/10) – Antikythera Mechanism: The final artifact in the game is located after you've completed the Trial of Archimedes. Once you've solved the puzzle in the other world, return back through the portal, and the entire platform you're standing on will lower. Continue forward to the right of the spherical cage, and voila, Trophy Unlocked.

Great guide mate.

Don't know why no one replied yet..

Myself I like a text guide if it's not a lot and they intersect with each other.

So again, great guide!

:D

At Chapter 21 atm and didn't found any errors, maybe some counts where off, but thats all.

EDIT;

Artifact (8/10) – Stonemason's Chisel needs to be Archimedes Treatise.

;)

You need to clarify that last statement. The artifact is not in that location when it "stops for good"; it appears at the halfway mark. Also, I hate to be the stickler here, but there's no lever at the halfway mark, either. There's the slide that you pull to open the gate, and the wheel you cram on to continue the elevator ride, so the choice of words there can be confusing.

Yeah.

Seriously, this guide needs little update. I'm getting OCD with the chest that I already mentioned in the previous page and it still isn't in the guide.

Pleaaaaase updaaaaaaate.

I've addressed that issue. Here's how it looks now:

Artifact (9/10) – Statue Worker's Idol: This artifact's location is not to be confused with the 23rd chapter's name. Few minutes in, you will face hordes of enemies in a small platform that raises itself if you keep the fire in the middle burning by throwing them into it. I will, however, not note the fact that it is located at the "halfway mark" because people playing the game for the first time will have no idea what that it. Is it 10 minutes into the chapter? Is it 1 hour in?

I decided to use the word lever because it is the word gamers associate with the most in the case of mechanisms such as these. But, I've made the change accordingly.

Thank you for this excellent guide!

Also, use this guide for the rest of the white chests after this guide (Chapters 18-28):

Other White Chests - God of War: Ascension

I followed this guide and then the link above, and I didn't farm orbs at all. I also never used the "freezing" method to get extra orbs. As long as you follow these two guides, you'll be set with more than enough orbs for the trophy.

I was able to fully upgrade all my weapons by the end of Chapter 25, and I ended up getting the "Fully Loaded" trophy at Chapter 28. I'm at the Trial of Archimedes right now (its balls hard btw on hard mode, haven't beaten it yet) and I've got about 9000 extra orbs.

Update: I just beat the game with 17000 extra orbs on hard mode. No orb farming. Just followed this guide and the supplemental guide above to find all the white chests.

Playing through the game now myself... and I have a question. The white chests... there are suppose to be a few more than what is in the guide right? Cause I'm pretty sure I've missed like one or two already...

I mean, I'm not going to use the guide itself for the chests straight away, unless I need to after the game. But if I don't find the artifacts all in one go, then I'll use the guide for them too. Just want to get what I can without the need for the guide is all... but just wondering about more white chests is all XD

This guide covers all the chests through Chapter 18, except 2 (One in Chapter 11, and another in 18, I think). Then there are only 11 chests remaining in Chapters 19-30 (5 Phoenix feathers and 6 Gorgon eyes). Towards the end of the game, 6 of the 11 chests will be clearly visible, so you can't miss them.

White chests are in abundance, but without the use of a guide, you will probably miss the artifacts, and a few decayed chests.

Ah... as long as I at least get my white chests done first playthrough, then afterwards I'll deal with any artifacts I'm missing... and probably those decayed chests too. I mean, I just finished the roller puzzle and got the two white chests there... though I may have to regrab them cause I got stuck trying something and got stuck between the roller and the block thing... couldn't jump out of it.

But yeah, still got a fair bit to go... I know I missed out on the white chest in the second chapter. Only on chapter five right now so looks like I grabbed the last chests in there before the next chapter and yeah, looks like most likely only one I missed, maybe two if I missed the one by the crank (can't even recall if I found that one or not)

It's fine to go through without relying heavily on a guide, but just bear in mind that if you don't get enough eyes/feathers ( unlikely), miss a decayed chest (quite possible), or if you don't fully upgrade Kratos (a higher risk due to needing the extra red orbs from additional white chests), you have to replay a sizeable chunk of the game.

You can't use chapter select other than for artifacts.

Stats do not carry forward, so you could end up having to replay the entire game.

Yeah, I remember reading all that. I'm only going through on normal right now... so I will be playing through again regardless on hard another time. But that's just me with these games, play through on normal first... and maybe hard sometime later XD

But yeah, I know about chapter select for only artifacts. As for everything else... such as white chests, I know once something has been fully upgraded, it gets replaced with red orbs too, such as all gorgon eyes will instead be red orbs once his health is maxed out fully.
