If you are getting the game at EB Games or Gamestop (former gamestop employee). The rules regarding mature games are as follow.

1.) The person buying the game must be 17+ years of age or older or have the consent of someone 17+ years of age or older.
2.) If you are under 17 and you have someone else getting the game. We are required to remind the person that the game is rated 'mature' and read off the label of what the game has to offer. (graphic violence, blood, profanity, etc..)
3.) As employees we are required to ask your for ID regardless if you're like 80 or been going to store for a long time. They're more lenient with this rule since it's a waste of time half the time. However if someone higher up is working on shift I will guarantee they will ask for ID.
3b.) Also it doesn't have to be an ID; anything that has your name and age (if they have you on record) or anything with name, age, and a picture.

unless you look like you're twelve I doubt they'll bother IDing you. They're usually too busy to care that much unless it's obvious enough that someone might complain.

At 23 I'm still being carded because of my baby face. Gamestop is very strict when it comes to this.

I've also noticed that EB Games is very strict about this. Eevn when I had my mom with me to buy an M-rated game when I was 16, the clerk wouldn't even let me hand him the gift card I had. I had to hand it to my mom and she had to hand it to him. Kinda stupid, to be honest.

Oh well, no more of that anymore now that I'm 17. I still have yet to buy an M-rated game since my 17th birthday though...

I'm almost certain you can buy M-rated games at 17 in the states. We get the same packaging as the U.S., you know, the one that says 17+.
