Overview:

Estimated difficulty: 9/10 (Difficulty Rating); personal estimate: 5/10

Estimated time to 100%: 10-15 hours (skill dependent)

Offline trophies: 15 (13 (B), 1 (S), 1 (G))

Online trophies: 0

Minimum number of playthroughs: 2 (but you will certainly need at least 4)

Missable trophies: None (checkpoint select available & the game is 25-30 minutes long anyway)

Glitched trophies: None

Do cheats disable trophies? No cheats available

Does difficulty affect trophies? Yes

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Play through the game on Normal Mode

Simply finish the game in Normal Mode, get used to the enemies, bosses and the game mechanics. You'll unlock Welcome to Flying Hamster! after beating Stage 1 and Finish Normal Mode upon finishing the game, if you didn’t lose all your continues. You can also work on the 2 score related trophies (Top Score and Millionaire Score) by quitting the game every time you die, therefore not nullifying your score when you continue; but you’ll get these 2 trophies easily while working on the 1 credit clear trophies in Step 4-5 anyway.

Step 2: Get all stage specific & miscellaneous trophies

You’ll get most of the trophies in this step. Every time you get a new trophy, you’ll have 1 more credit available in the game, this is going to be very useful for your first Hard Mode playthrough.

All of these trophies can be gotten via Stage Select or in Stage 1.

Trophies obtained in this step:

(B) Screen clear using a berry

(B) Screen clear using a berry #2

(B) Column breaker

(B) Kill that ram!

(B) Kill that robot!

(B) Avoid them all!

(B) Hardcore spitter

(B) Hamster Master

(B) Adventurer

Step 3: Play through the game on Hard Mode

Now that you have the misc. trophies done, you should have 16 credits (18 if you got the 2 score trophies) for starting Hard Mode, and you will most likely make good use of them all. The bosses have a lot more health, shoot more/faster and normal enemies will all shoot at you now too. This game is very heavily memorization dependent (sadly), so you will have to replay stages, a lot. Make use of the quitting trick, it will save you credits.

You will not get any trophies in this step, your reward will be the Weapon Change feature, this will be absolutely crucial for the 1 credit clear trophies. Without this feature, hard 1CC is nearly impossible.

Step 4: Play through the game on Normal Mode without dying

After your Hard Mode playthrough, ignoring how many continues you used for it, this will feel pretty easy with the Weapon Change feature. Stage 5 is the only stage that should pose any trouble, keep replaying and memorizing it in Stage Select if you have trouble with it. See the guide for general strategy. You’ll get 1 Credit Normal Mode (plus Top Score and Millionaire Score, if you haven’t gotten them before) upon completion.

Step 5: Play through the game on Hard Mode without dying

This is the hardest part of the 100%. You have to complete the game on Hard without dying at all. Stages 4 and 5 are tough with just 3 lives, but with smart weapon choice and memorization/practice, they're both doable. See the guide for strategies.

You’ll get 1 Credit Hard Mode and your 100% upon completion.

Finish Stage 1 (Normal Mode)

Story related, cannot be missed. Simply finish the first stage of the game, very straightforward.

Clear game in Normal Mode

Finish the game on normal mode, without losing all your continues. Stage select cannot be used for this trophy, but you can quit the game and continue from where you left. This trick can also be kind of abused. If you die, you can quit the game on the continue screen, and when you open the game again, it will prompt you to continue from where you left, without losing the continue you lost by dying last time.

This will also help you get the score trophies, but it doesn’t work for the 1 credit clear trophies.

See 1 Credit Hard Mode. Everything is the same here but with less enemies, easier bullet patterns and much less HP for bosses.

Clear game in Hard Mode using 1 credit

Definitely the hardest trophy in the game. This trophy takes a lot of memorization, concentration and a little bit of luck, mostly in the boss fights. You will definitely want to beat the game once on Hard Mode before attempting it without dying, to unlock the Weapon Change feature. This feature helps incredibly everywhere, some parts of Stage 4 and 5 are practically impossible to beat without getting hit, if you only have the spit weapon. With the Weapon Change, you have an infinite amount of the good weapons, as you can simply press :vital: then :vitar: to reload your currently equipped weapon.

I’m going to give you weapon recommendations and some tips for every stage of the game; some parts get incredibly easier with the correct placements and weapon of choice. Overall the fire shot and the bananas will be your most used weapons.

Stage 1:

The easiest stage. This shouldn’t pose much trouble, the fire shot kills every enemy instantly except for the rams, the cows and the big orange cats, these take a few more shots but are still quick to kill. For the Mushroom boss, I suggest using one of the explosive shots (doesn’t matter whether it’s the crab or the egg, both of them do the same damage), if you spam it and press :vital:-:vitar: to reload regularly, it kills him in about 10 seconds. For the Owl boss, use bananas. If you start it with good timing, he won’t even be able to use ANY attacks on you, because every 1/4 of health he loses, he does a “knock out” animation, blocking him from doing attacks.

Stage 2:

Another easy stage, both the fire shot and bananas work fine here. I prefer fire shot because of the continuous fire, but it’s personal preference. The only part that could cause some trouble is at the 6 bats separated with a wall, and with a ghost at the bottom. Here, what I do is fly between the ghost and the wall immediately, as soon as the space appears, because the bats will start shooting at you and it will become a lot harder to pass if you don’t kill them early. For the Penguin boss, use bananas, it damages him the most by far. Stay next to him and every time you see he’s summoning mini penguins/columns, fly a little down. If you are spamming bananas, they will destroy them, and you can continue firing at the boss.

Stage 3:

Things get a little harder from here. I use fire shot in most parts of this stage, but you will definitely need to switch to the bananas when the hens fly towards you from the left. They cannot be avoided any other way than killing them, and they can only be killed with bananas (as no other weapon fires backwards). For the boss, use one of the explosives. Banana damages him more, but it’s unsafe to stay close to this boss. You will want to stay in the middle of the left side. When he does the bouncing attack, stay in the left top corner. Wait for him to hit the top of the screen the last time, and just when he hits it, move right. If you time it correctly, you will avoid getting hit. The rest of the attacks are simple to avoid, you’ll get used to them.

Stage 4:

This stage is pretty hard already. Use the fire shot, everything in the first (dark) part dies in 1 shot from it. When you go underwater, you will want to spam on those orange octopuses and kill them asap, if they cover the screen with the black dirt, everything will become a lot harder. For the Octopus boss, DEFINITELY use bananas. This is the hardest boss in the game, in my opinion. The strategy to beat him is to always stay over or under his head, depending on whether he appears in the top or bottom corners. Every time he appears, shoot a few bananas and fly over/under his head. You’ll still have to dodge the bullets but you’ll always avoid his tentacles this way.

Stage 5:

The hardest stage. There are a lot of enemies here, they shoot a lot, and they appear very quickly and cover the screen. I used fire shot for the whole stage. I can’t really give a general strategy here, you’ll need to practise this stage in Stage Select, a LOT. Memorize every enemy spawn point, and try to save your lives for the second half of the stage, it gets a little hectic in some parts there. For the 2 parts where ships come from behind (around the end), use bananas with good timing, so you don’t have to dodge bullets in that tiny tunnel. For the mini ship of the final boss, I suggest starting with a charged flame attack, to kill a good portion of its HP. After that, use bananas, and don’t hesitate to go on the right side of the ship. It’s very dangerous to stay on the left side here because of the huge laser attack he does. For the final boss itself, definitely use fire shot. This boss is not very hard, but you’ll need to spam the fire shot very quickly to kill the mini aliens. Change placement accordingly, depending on where he holds his cannon. Never stay in line with it, to avoid his laser beam. When you’re staying on the bottom, don’t stay completely at the left side because the mini alien from the top will fall there, hitting you. When you stay at the top, don’t stay completely at the edge in the top because you don’t damage the boss there.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1860/2DE.jpg Top score (B)

Reach first position in the local Hi-score table

See Millionaire score. The same thing applies here but you only need about a quarter of the score.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1860/D82.jpg Millionaire score (B)

Score 1.000.000 points

This should come very easily. You’ll get this on the way to the two 1 credit clear trophies, 100% guaranteed. However, if you aren’t working on those but just this trophy, there’s a trick to make this easier. Every time you die, quit the game, and when you open the game again, it will prompt you to continue from where you left, without nullifying your score. This way you can die as many times as you want and still keep your score.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1860/35B.jpg Screen clear using a berry (B)

Kill hen and all crows in Stage 1

Load up Stage 1-2 in Stage Select. Pick up berries, charge it fully and keep it charged. There will be a hen surrounded with crows coming towards you. Release the berry, aiming to shoot the hen. If you were successful, the hen will die by the berry and the crows by the spreading shots of it, earning you the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1860/D71.jpg Screen clear using a berry #2 (B)

Kill all bats using a berry on the wall in Stage 2

Load up Stage 2-3 in Stage Select. After the part with the columns, there will be a part with 6 bats, 3-3 separated by a wall. Fully charge your berry and shoot it at the wall, killing the bats with the spreading shots. It doesn’t matter how many shots you take for this one, as long as you kill all 6 bats and only spreading shots kill them.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1860/683.jpg Column breaker (B)

Destroy all columns in Stage 2 (Normal Mode)

Load up Stage 2-3 in Stage Select. When the path splits, take the bottom route. Aim to destroy every single column you see, including those that fall when you destroy the bottom ones. There will be a few more columns when you’re done with this area, but those are unmissable, as there is only 1 path to take from there.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1860/D2B.jpg Kill that ram! (B)

Kill jumping ram from stage 1 (Normal Mode)

Load up Stage 1-2 in Stage Select. There are 3 rams in the bottom of the screen in this area, the jumping ram is the 2nd one. Just kill it while it’s still walking on the floor, for an easy trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1860/F32.jpg Kill that robot! (B)

Kill jetpack robot from stage 3 (Normal Mode)

Load up Stage 3-2 in Stage Select. Soon a weird looking jetpack robot will fly down from the top of the screen. You’ll have to spam :cross: to shoot enough before he leaves the screen, if you only have the default spit weapon equipped. With any other weapon, he dies pretty easily.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1860/2D1.jpg Avoid them all! (B)

Finish any level without firing (except for the boss) with 1 credit

This is pretty easy to do on Stage 1. Just memorize where enemies come from, and “avoid them all” :D! Make sure you don’t spam fire on the mushroom boss, so that you stop firing after your last shot on him.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1860/844.jpg Hardcore spitter (B)

Finish any level using spit weapon only

Very easy to do on Stage 1. Avoid touching the flowers, bee nests and beer glasses, so that you don’t pick up any weapons. Other than that, this is the same thing as Avoid them all! but easier, because you’re actually allowed to fire.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1860/111.jpg Hamster Master (B)

Go through Stage 5-2 (Normal Mode) without losing any HP

Load up Stage 5-2 in Stage Select. This could take a few attempts, as the screen moves pretty quickly here. This is all memorization, keep replaying and you’ll get used to the layout of the level and the enemies. You’ll definitely need a weapon pick up for the part with those red robots in the tiny tunnels, they’re impossible to kill quickly enough with the spit weapon.

A trick I found for this part is to keep pausing the game at times, so you have some time for considering what’s coming next.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1860/374.jpg Adventurer (B)

Destroy secret passage from stage 2 (Normal Mode)

Load up Stage 2-3 in Stage Select. When the path splits, take the bottom route. After getting past the columns in this area, you’ll see a destroyable wall marked with X. This thing takes a lot of shots to destroy, so it’s advisable to have a weapon pick up when you reach it. After you go through the wall, progress a little further and you will be taken to a secret journey in space, with a secret boss.

Hi,

Thanks for the guide, good tips for the Hard mode. I have a question (I do not play the game yet, so my question is probably stupid). Concerning the gold trophy, do we have to finish all the 5 stages in a row or if I die in level 4 for example, I can retry from this level ?

It's all 5 stages in 1 go. I mentioned in the guide that you can't use the quitting feature for the 1 credit trophies, so surely you mustn't die xD
