This Cie'th Stone Mission Guide goes in co-ordination with the

Final Fantasy XIII ~ Trophy Guide and Roadmap.

Once you reach Archylte Steppe in Chapter 11 for the first time, you'll be introduced to Cie'th Stone Missions. These are missions that task you with killing a certain enemy, called a Mark. There are 64 of these missions, several of which can prove quite troublesome. However with the help of this guide, you should be able to handle everything without too much hassle.

A few things to take note of that apply to most situations are:

  • For any Marks that are listed as being vulnerable to Vanille's Death skill, it is paramount you have her Malboro Wand (or at least Belladonna Wand) for the Increased Debuff ability. This will increase the effectiveness of Death, meaning you won't have to cast it as much for it to take effect.
  • Having three sets of Sprint Shoes are highly recommended for completing these missions, particularly the Rank B and Rank A missions. This will allow you to start each battle with Haste, which can be extremely beneficial at times.
  • Always try to get a Pre-emptive Strike on a Mark. Successfully Pre-emptive Striking an enemy can be difference between easily winning and miserably losing.
  • If in doubt, use Shrouds. Aegisol/Fortisol are helpful for when you need a bunch of buffs quickly, whereas Deceptisol is good for Pre-emptive Striking those Marks that cannot be Pre-emptive Striked normally.

The trophies that require the completion of the Cie'th Stone Missions are:

1.0: CIE'TH STONE MISSIONS

1.1: Missions 01-10

Mission 01: Pond Scum

  • Rank: D
  • Mark: Ectopudding
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Central Expanse
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Central Expanse
  • Reward: Energy Sash

You'll be introduced to this mission when you first enter Archylte Steppe. The only thing to be aware of for this mission is that Ectopudding is immune to physical damage. Because of this, it is recommended you stick to Ravagers. If you use Commandos, only use Ruin or Ruinga.

Mission 02: Goodwill Hunting

  • Rank: D
  • Mark: Uridimmu
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Central Expanse
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Central Expanse
  • Reward: Cobaltite

For this fight, you'll have to take on Uridimmu along with his pack of Gorgonopsids. If you're doing this as soon as you reach Archylte Steppe, it can be a little difficult, due to the number of enemies. Focus on taking out the Gorgonopsids first, then take on Uridimmu. Having a Medic out at all times will be beneficial if you're struggling to take on all the enemies.

Mission 03: Massif Contamination

  • Rank: D
  • Mark: Ugallu
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Central Expanse
  • Mark location: Yaschas Massif - Tsubaddran Highlands
  • Reward: Platinum Bangle

Ugallu is basically a larger version of Uridimmu, except this time you don't have to worry about taking on any minions. He is particularly easy to stagger and is weak to ice and wind attacks, so simply focus on using Ravagers until he's staggered, then swap to Commandos to stack on the damage. If need be, you can easily Pre-emptive Strike him, making it considerably easier.

Mission 04: A Hero's Charge

  • Rank: D
  • Mark: Adroa
  • Cie'th Stone location: Yaschas Massif - Tsubaddran Highlands
  • Mark location: Yaschas Massif - The Ascendant Scarp
  • Reward: Pearl Necklace

For this mission, you must take on a group of Adroas. These guys are resistant or immune to every type of magic, so simply focus on using Commandos to deal out physical damage. Beyond that, there isn't much to say.

Mission 05: Joyless Return

  • Rank: D
  • Mark: Edimmu
  • Cie'th Stone location: Yaschas Massif - The Ascendant Scarp
  • Mark location: Yaschas Massif - Tsumitran Basin
  • Reward: Sorcerer's Mark

Edimmu is a flying Cie'th who is mostly resistant to all attacks. Because of this, the best method is to bring a Saboteur or two to throw several debuffs onto him. Once debuffed, simply go head on with Ravagers and Commandos to take him out.

Mission 06: No Place Like Home

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Munchkin Maestro
  • Cie'th Stone location: Yaschas Massif - Paddraean Archaeopolis
  • Mark location: Yaschas Massif - The Pass of Paddra
  • Reward: Fulmen Ring

For this, you'll be taking on Munchkin Maestro alongside a bunch of his Munchkin minions. Take out all his minions first (as killing the Maestro with Munchkins still alive will result in one of them turning into another Munchkin Maestro), then focus on him. He's immune to thunder attacks, but vulnerable to ice and wind attacks, so aim to use those skill types.

Mission 07: Bituitus, the Pillager

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Bituitus
  • Cie'th Stone location: Yaschas Massif - Paddraean Archaeopolis
  • Mark location: Yaschas Massif - Paddraean Archaeopolis
  • Reward: R&D Depot

Bituitus is the first of the seven Undying enemies required for Exorcist. He is extremely susceptible to non-elemental magic damage, so barraging him with Ruin and Ruinga can wreck him very quickly. He tends to debuff you too, so a Synergist or Medic will be beneficial if you're struggling.

Note: Bituitus can drop Tetradric Crowns and Tetradic Tiaras, which are the best way to obtain Sprint Shoes. Given he is extremely close to the Cie'th Stone, you can repeat this mission over and over until you get enough Tetradic Crowns/Tiaras to make three Sprint Shoes. Having a Collector's Catalog and/or Connisseur Catalog will help with obtaining these.

Mission 08: The Eleventh Hour

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Rakshasa
  • Cie'th Stone location: Vallis Media - Base Camp
  • Mark location: Vallis Media - Atzilut's Tears
  • Reward: Collector's Catalog

Rakshasa is accompanied by several Flan-type enemies. Take care of the Flans as you normally would, then turn to Rakshasa. He has a low stagger threshold, so stagger him quickly and then turn to Commandos for maximum damage. Rakshasa can debuff a lot, so a Synergist or Medic can be helpful for removing said debuffs.

Mission 09: Heave-ho

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Kaiser Behemoth
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Central Expanse
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Central Expanse
  • Reward: Rhodochrosite

First things first, Kaiser Behemoth can be Pre-emptive Striked, which is highly recommended due to him being quite tough in the early stages. Once he gets to about half health, he will stand upright on his hindlegs and fully restore his health (like all Behemoth-type enemies). If he manages to do this, he can prove quite difficult, which is why getting a Pre-emptive is so very helpful. Being able to stagger him immediately will allow you to constantly launch him into the air, which will stop him from transforming and thus restoring his HP. If you fail to get a Pre-emptive on him, he is weak to earth attacks, so focus on using those skill types.

Mission 10: Hollow Hope

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Ambling Bellows
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Central Expanse
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Northern Highplain
  • Reward: Super Conductor x4

Ambling Bellows may appear big, but he isn't too tough. Due to his many magic weaknesses, he can be easily toppled if you focus your Ravagers on him. Don't bother with Commandos, except to keep the stagger bar steady (as it might drop too quickly with RAV/RAV/RAV).

1.2: Missions 11-20

Mission 11: Pride Before a Fall

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Adroa
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Northern Highplain
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Central Expanse
  • Reward: Frost Ring x2

This is basically the same as Mission 04, except with a few more Adroa to tackle. Employ the same tactics as you did in Mission 04 and you'll manage with ease.

Mission 12: Geiseric, the Profane

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Geiseric
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Arid Strath
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Western Benchland
  • Reward: Royal Armlet

The second of seven Undying Cie'th. He's highly resistant to non-elemental magic and is immune to physical attacks, so your Commandos are more or less useless here. Due to his innate weakness to the elements, Ravagers are key here.

Mission 13: Eternity Unpromised

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Goblin Chieftain
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Central Expanse
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Northern Highplain
  • Reward: Cobaltite

The Goblin Chieftain and his accompanying Goblins are essentially a stronger version of the Munchkins and Munchkin Maestros. Goblin Chieftain can cast Goblinhancement to buff his Goblins, so using a Saboteur is an option. Alternatively, you can simply take out his Goblins fast so they can't deal much damage to you. With them done, take on the Chieftain, as per usual.

Mission 14: Defender of the Flock

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Sahagin
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Western Benchland
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Font of Namva
  • Reward: Gysahl Reins

For this, you'll be facing a Sahagin alongside several froggy minions. They are all weak to fire and thunder attacks, so barrage them with the appropriate attacks and you should win without issue.

Note: Completing this mission will grant you access to Chocobos, which is extremely helpful. The Chocobos will allow you to access areas previously unavailable to you, as well as give you the ability of travelling across the Archylte Steppe in quick fashion. It is recommended you complete this mission as soon as possible because of this.

Mission 15: Tribal Warfare

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Goblin Chieftain
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Central Expanse
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Northern Highplain
  • Reward: Survivalist's Catalog

Same as Mission 13, except with more Goblins. Apply the same strategy and make sure not to get overwhelmed by the numbers - use a Medic if necessary.

Mission 16: Surrogate Slayer

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Sahagin
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Font of Namva
  • Reward: Rhodochrosite

Just like Mission 14, except with more enemies. Apply the strategy and make sure not get overwhelmed by the numbers - use a Medic if necessary.

Mission 17: A Widow's Wrath

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Pulsework Champion
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Northern Highplain
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Northern Highplain
  • Reward: Perfect Conductor x3

This guy is incredibly resistant to all types of damage - fortunately, these resistances drop once he is staggered, and he has a a very low stagger of 110.0%. Due to his resistances and immunities, it is wise to assault him with a combination of Commandos and Ravagers until he is staggered, then wail on him for the kill.

Mission 18: So Close, Yet So Far

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Ambling Bellows
  • Cie'th Stone location: Mah'habara - Twilit Cavern
  • Mark location: Mah'habara - Twilit Cavern
  • Reward: Sorcerer's Mark

Once again you're tasked with defeating an Ambling Bellows, except this time he has Hoplites for company. Take out all but one Hoplite (so as to avoid Ambling Bellows spawning more), then focus on Ambling Bellows until it's defeated. As a group these guys can hit hard, so keep a Medic on standby.

Mission 19: Triangle of Tragedy

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Uridimmu
  • Cie'th Stone location: Sulyya Springs - Ceiling of Sky
  • Mark location: Sulyya Springs - Subterranean Lake
  • Reward: Cobaltite

This is similar to Mission 02, except this time the Gorgonospids have been replaced with two more Uridimmus. By the time you reach this area however, you should be strong enough to tackle three of them with relative ease.

Mission 20: Words Unspoken

  • Rank: Goblin Chieftain
  • Mark: C
  • Cie'th Stone location: Taejin's Tower - The Palisades
  • Mark location: Taejin's Tower - The Palisades
  • Reward: Rhodochrosite

For this battle, you'll be taking on a Goblin Chieftain and Munchkin Maestro simultaneously (along with their respective minions). You would've fought them both plenty by now, so this shouldn't be anything new. Take on the Goblins first, then move onto the Munchkins. If need be, you can Pre-emptive Strike these guys to make it an easy battle.

1.3: Missions 21-30

Mission 21: A Tremulous Terror

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Gelatitan
  • Cie'th Stone location: Taejin's Tower - Second Tier
  • Mark location: Taejin's Tower - Second Tier
  • Reward: Speed Sash

Gelatitan is a massive Flan. His weakness is thunder attacks, so use them for maximum efficiency. If you take your time when approaching him, you can get a Pre-emptive Strike, which will make the battle considerably easier.

Note: This is required as part of the story when progressing through Taejin's Tower.

Mission 22: Infernal Machine

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Ambling Bellows
  • Cie'th Stone location: Taejin's Tower - Second Tier
  • Mark location: Taejin's Tower - Second Tier
  • Reward: Particle Accelerator x3

This is more or less identical to Mission 18, except the Hoplites have been replaced with Cryptos. Same strategy applies.

Note: This is required as part of the story when progressing through Taejin's Tower.

Mission 23: Natural Defenses

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Gurangatch
  • Cie'th Stone location: Taejin's Tower - Second Tier
  • Mark location: Taejin's Tower - Second Tier
  • Reward: Warrior's Wristband

Gurangatch is an Armadillon-type enemy, meaning that his defenses are extreme until you stagger him. He'll be more or less immune to everything at first, so just pummel away with Ravagers until you stagger him, at which point his defenses will drop away completely. Switch to Commandos and end the battle before he regenerates his carapace and defenses. If you approach him slowly, you can score a Pre-emptive Strike, making this battle incredibly simple.

Note: This is required as part of the story when progressing through Taejin's Tower.

Mission 24: A Potent Sting

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Mushussu
  • Cie'th Stone location: Taejin's Tower - Fifth Tier
  • Mark location: Taejin's Tower - Fifth Tier
  • Reward: Moonblossom Seed x6

This guy has several Yakshinis alongside him, who are quite fond of debuffing you. Because of this, it is recommended you take these guys out first before taking on Mushussu. Mushussu is highly resistant to the elements, so pummel away with Commandos to end this guy.

Note: This is required as part of the story when progressing through Taejin's Tower.

Mission 25: Spectral Haunt

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Vetala
  • Cie'th Stone location: Taejin's Tower - Sixth Tier
  • Mark location: Taejin's Tower - Fifth Tier
  • Reward: Cobaltite

This Cie'th can be particularly daunting at first. He will cast a shield as soon as the battle starts and can only be removed by staggering him. He is more or less immune to all damage while the shield is up, so focus on staggering him as quickly as possible. Once he is staggered, he is quite susceptible to physical damage, so Commandos are the way to go here. You may also want to consider debuffing him to hasten the process. His attacks can be quite devestating, so make sure to have a Medic or two on standby.

Note: This is required as part of the story when progressing through Taejin's Tower.

Mission 26: So Shrill, the Cry

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Penanggalan
  • Cie'th Stone location: Taejin's Tower - Fifth Tier
  • Mark location: Taejin's Tower - Sixth Tier
  • Reward: Diamond Bangle

Penanggalan and his supporting Chonchons aren't too much of a hassle. There's lots of them, but they're all susceptible to Ruin and Ruinga, so just focus on using Commandos for this battle.

Note: This is required as part of the story when progressing through Taejin's Tower.

Mission 27: Mithridates, the Lone

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Mithridates
  • Cie'th Stone location: Taejin's Tower - The Cloven Spire
  • Mark location: Taejin's Tower - Ground Tier
  • Reward: Blaze Ring

Mithridates is the 3rd Undying Cie'th. Before you get to fighting him, you have to actually find him. In order to get to him, you must first complete every other Mission in Taejin's Tower, then activate the Central Elevator on each tier so that it can travel from Ground Tier to Apex. Once it is lined up, ride the elevator from the Apex down the Ground Tier and Mithridates will appear.

Now for the battle itself: when you first arrive here, this battle will be extremely difficult. Mithridates uses many debuffs on you, with Poison being the most annoying one. Having a Synergist and a Medic or two is absolutely essential for this, as you don't want to get overwhelmed with debuffs. Alternate between dealing damage, removing debuffs and healing your party. Don't bother with a Saboteur, as he is immune to all debuffs. He is weak to most elements, so use Ravagers when attacking for the most damage.

Mission 28: Faded Glory

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Ceratosaur
  • Cie'th Stone location: Oerba - Village Proper
  • Mark location: Oerba - Village Proper
  • Reward: Giant's Glove

These guys aren't particularly powerful, the issue here is their sheer number. You have to take on quite a lot of them simultaneously. Fire and earth attacks are their weaknesses, so stack them for big damage. Because of their numbers, it is wise to use Area of Effect attacks such as Firaga here.

Mission 29: Faltering Faith

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Juggernaught
  • Cie'th Stone location: Mah'habara - Maw of the Abyss
  • Mark location: Taejin's Tower - The Palisades
  • Reward: Uraninite

This guy is pretty big and can be quite tough at first. He employs many fire-based attacks, so using a Synergist for Barfire is a good idea. Saboteurs are useless here, as he'll just remove the debuffs within moments (though this will stop him from attacking momentarily). His stagger bar is low, so focus on staggering him as soon as possible, then change to Commandos for big damage.

Alternatively, you can simply abuse Vanille's Death skill if you have learnt it, as he is rather susceptible to it. This can make the battle incredibly short and swift if you manage to hit him with it.

Mission 30: Syphax, the Insidious

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Syphax
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - The Haerii Oldroad
  • Mark location: Mah'habara - Abandonded Dig
  • Reward: Uraninite

Here's your fourth Undying Cie'th. First of all, you'll need a Chocobo in order to reach the Cie'th Stone, which requires completing Mission 14. Now that you've got the Mission, you need to actually get to Syphax. In order to do that, you must first travel to Mah'habara. Once there, you must ride the Fal'Cie Atomos out to Sulyya Springs, then ride back. Once you re-enter Mah'habara, Atomos will act as a makeshift bridge across to Syphax.

Once you get to Syphax, you first must kill thirty to fourty of his flying minions in order for him to appear. They're not very powerful, but killing that many back-to-back can do a number on your HP (and your battle time if you're going for 5 stars). If you summon an Eidolon against his minions, Syphax will appear immediately, thus circumventing the first stage of the fight.

Once Syphax appears, it's as simple as staggering him and stacking on the damage. He is susceptible to wind attacks, so Ravagers with these skill types are recommended.

1.4: Missions 31-40

Mission 31: Newfound Purpose

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Pulsework Champion
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe – Haerii Archaeopolis
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe – Haerii Archaeopolis
  • Reward: Perfect Conductor x3

Just like Mission 17, you're up against Pulsework Champion, except this time he has a few Seekers as backup. Remove the Seekers from the equation, then focus on staggering Pulsework Champion so you can deal some real damage. Having a Medic on hand is a good idea in case they overwhelm you.

Mission 32: And Then There Was One

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Amam
  • Cie'th Stone location: Vallis Media - Earthen Bosom
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Western Benchland
  • Reward: Glass Buckle

Amam is essentially a considerably stronger version of Uridimmu. He can cast a few debuffs, so having a Synergist on hand is helpful. He is weak to ice and earth attacks, so abuse those until he's staggered. Once staggered, swap to Commandos and end him. His attacks can be quite strong, so keep a Medic on standby.

Mission 33: A Parent's Pledge

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Adamanchelid
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Haerii Archaeopolis
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors
  • Reward: White Coat

Chances are you've seen an Adamanchelid or two standing around Archylte Steppe, and if you've completed Chapter 12 then you would have already defeated one (due to a forced encounter). This guy is highly susceptible to Daze, so make Fang your leader. With that, a few good Paradigms to have are SAB/SYN/SYN, SAB/RAV/RAV, SEN/SEN/SEN and COM/COM/COM. Starting with SAB/SYN/SYN, inflict Slow and Daze on him while your allies buff you up. Then change to SAB/RAV/RAV and keep inflicting the Adamanchelid with Daze while your allies build up the stagger bar. Once staggered, change to COM/COM/COM to inflict big damage to him. Whenever he goes to use Quake or Bay, change to SEN/SEN/SEN to absorb the damage. Having a Paradigm with a Medic or two is also a good idea, in case he deals too much damage to you. You can also debuff him further if you want to, though it isn't necessary.

Mission 34: Zenobia, the Butcher

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Tonberry
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Way of the Ancients
  • Mark location: Archylte STeppe - Haerii Archaeopolis
  • Reward: Hermes Sandals

Despite the title, you'll actually be fighting Tonberry here. This can be a very difficult fight if you let it drag on - every so often, Tonberry will release his Grudge attacks, which fully restore his health, empty the stagger bar and deal big damage. To top this, each time he performs these moves they become more powerful. Chances are you won't survive two or three of these attacks.

Because of this, the key to winning the battle is staggering him before he gets a chance to perform a Grudge attack, then juggle him with Launch and kill him quickly. Don't bother trying to buff or debuff, as it takes precious time. Heal when necessary, and consider changing to Sentinel roles if he's about to perform a Grudge attack.

Mission 35: The Road Less Traveled (Titan Quest A-1)

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Gurangatch
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - Truthseeker's Rise
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Primeval Crossroads
  • Reward: Witch's Bracelet

This is the first mission in the ever-branching set of missions for the Titan's trial. The battle is the exact same as Mission 23 - stagger him, then unleash hell with Commandos. Simple really.

Mission 36: Dark Deliverance (Titan Quest B-1)

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Amam
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - Primeval Crossroads
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - A Dance of Shadow
  • Reward: Uraninite

This is similar to Mission 32, except against two Amams instead of one. Regardless, it shouldn't be too difficult. Employ the same strategy as you did in Mission 32, just pay attention to your HP.

Mission 37: Dying of the Light (Titan Quest B-2)

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Rafflesia
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - Primeval Crossroads
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - A Dance of Light
  • Reward: Star Pendant

These guys are numerous, but nothing hard. They're weak to fire and earth attacks, so use them for a quick kill. They can also easily be Pre-emptive Striked, making it even easier.

Mission 38: Moonlit Madness (Titan Quest C-1)

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Verdelet
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - A Dance of Shadow
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Via Lunae
  • Reward: Diamond Bangle

These guys are similar to the Adroa you fought in the early missions, except they have the ability to summon a Juggernaught. They have low HP, so a few hits from a decent Commando can kill them. As soon as the battle starts though, hold off from attacking until one of them starts to Summon - this is your cue to kill that Verdelet before it summons a Juggernaught. If you manage to stop them from summoning, this is a very simple battle.

Mission 39: Seeing Stars (Titan Quest C-2)

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Ochu
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - A Dance of Shadow/A Dance of Light
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Via Stellarum
  • Reward: Siltstone Ring

This battle can be a little difficult if you're low of level. Ochu has high HP and a high stagger rate, plus has several minions as company. Don't bother with the minions, simply focus on Ochu. Ochu and her minions are all weak to fire attacks, so use them to deal big damage. Once Ochu is dead, focus on the little ones.

Alternatively, you can abuse Vanille's Death skill to kill Ochu rapidly. This is rather luck-based, but it's a good method if you're struggling to win.

Mission 40: Solar Power (Titan Quest C-3)

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Verdelet
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - A Dance of Light
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Via Solis
  • Reward: Zealot's Amulet

Similar to Mission 38, except they summon Mushussu instead of Juggernaught. Kill the summoner first, then focus on the rest.

1.5: Missions 41-50

Mission 41: Gaian Grudge (Titan Quest D-1)

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Tonberry Trio
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - Via Lunae
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Gaian Path
  • Reward: Doctor's Code

This battle can prove exceedingly difficult, as it pits you against three Tonberries at once. The best way to do this is to get a Pre-emptive Strike either by sneaking up on them or using a Deceptisol. If you do this, you should use Quake (at a cost of 1TP) immediately to stagger all three Tonberries, then either pummel away with Commandos or take advantage of an Eidolon such as Odin or Hecatoncheir. If you fail to get a Pre-Emptive Strike, your best bet is to use a Saboteur or two and inflict them with Slow and Poison, as this will make it ever so slightly more bareable. This method will take considerably longer, however.

Mission 42: Antihero (Titan Quest D-2)

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Borgbear Hero
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - Via Lunae/Via Stellarum
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Salamandrine Path
  • Reward: Witch's Bracelet

This guy is more or less a stronger version of the Goblin Chieftain, with his Borgbear counterparts. While they are the strongest of the Goblin-type enemies, the battle isn't too tough. Take out the Borgbears first, then Borgbear Hero. They're all weak to fire and earth attacks, and they have low stagger bars.

Mission 43: The Hero Never Dies (Titan Quest D-3)

  • Rank: B
  • Mark: Borgbear Hero
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - Via Stellarum/Via Solis
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Sylphid Pass
  • Reward: Speed Sash

For this battle, you're up against a Borgbear Hero, Goblin Chieftain and Munchkin Maestro, along with their minions. Same strategy applies here - minions first, then the big guys.

Mission 44: The Old Ones Go to Rust (Titan Quest D-4)

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Corrosive Custard
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - Via Solis
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Nerid Path
  • Reward:General's Belt

For this battle, you're against three types of giant Flans (two of which you've likely encountered before). The Monstrous Flan and Hybrid Flora aren't too difficult, so take them on first - they are both weak to fire attacks. Once these two are down, turn to Corrosive Custard and take him on - his weakness is thunder attacks, so get the Ravagers ready. Have a Medic on standby, as it may be needed.

Mission 45: Emergent Evolution (Titan Quest E-1)

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Neochu
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - Gaian Path
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Titan's Throne
  • Reward: Hunter's Friend

There are two ways to get through this battle: take advantage of Neochu's weakness to earth attacks, making sure to have a Medic on standby, or take advantage of Neochu's weakness to Death. The latter is a far better option, though it is somewhat dependent on luck. Set Vanille as the leader, then start spamming Death while your teammates either heal you, buff you or debuff Neochu. Your choice.

Mission 46: On Silent Wings (Titan Quest E-2)

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Zirnitra
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - Salamandrine Path
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Titan's Throne
  • Reward: Gilgamesh, Inc.

This guy can hit pretty damn hard, so you'll want a good strategy here. A good strategy is to have a party of Fang, Vanille and Snow, with the Paradigms COM/SAB/SEN, COM/RAV/SEN and MED/MED/SEN. With Snow as Sentinel, all attacks will be focused on him, giving Fang and Vanille time to stagger him. Starting in COM/SAB/SEN, stick Zirnitra with Deprotect and Deshell, then change to COM/RAV/SEN to build the stagger bar. If Snow's HP drops too low, change to MED/MED/SEN to heal, then back to COM/RAV/SEN to deal big damage once he's staggered.

Alternatively, you can take advantage of Vanille's Death skill. With Vanille as leader, use SAB/MED/SEN and keep casting Death while your teammates take the damage and heal. Once again, this is luck-based.

Mission 47: Unfocused Rage (Titan Quest E-3)

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Raktavija
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - Salamandrine Path
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Titan's Throne
  • Reward: Mnar Stone

Raktavija is essentially a far stronger version of the Vetala you fought in Taejin's Tower. He is capable of inflicting massive magical damage, so use a Synergist to buff yourself, and a Saboteur to debuff Raktavija. When debuffing, make sure you stick him with Slow, as this will make it a lot easier. Once you've buffed and debuffed, change to the offensive with Ravagers to build his stagger bar, all the while keeping an eye on your HP in case healing is needed. Once he's staggered, continue with Ravagers to build the stagger percentage higher before swapping to Commandos to pummel him into the ground. It should take two stagger bars to deplete his health completely.

Mission 48: The Abyss Stares Back (Titan Quest E-4)

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Verdelet
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - Sylphid Path
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Titan's Throne
  • Reward: Twenty-Sided Die

Just like the other Verdelet missions, except this time they summon a Tonberry. Once again, simply take out the summoner first before moving on to the remaining Verdelet. Very easy.

Mission 49: Tyrannicide (Titan Quest E-5)

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Tyrant
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - Sylphid Path
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Titan's Throne
  • Reward: Particle Accelerator x7

This machine isn't particularly tough, it's the Centurion Blade that he summons that is a threat. Using Ravagers, attack him with thunder and water attacks while he's summoning his Centurion Blade. If you manage to stagger him before he summons the blade, then change to Commandos and finish him quickly. If he manages to summon the blade before you stagger him, turn your attention to the blade and defeat it quickly with a combination of Ravagers and Commandos before turning back to Tyrant. Nothing too difficult.

Mission 50: Road to Predation (Titan Quest E-6)

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Humbaba
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - Nereid Path
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Titan's Throne
  • Reward: Scarletite

This behemoth-type monster is weak to fire attacks, so pull out a bunch of Ravagers to deal with him. He'll stand on his haunches once you damage him enough, and if he manages to do this you can kiss the possibility of 5-starring it goodbye. In order to get 5 stars, you really want to defeat him before he stands up. To ensure this, use Synergists to buff yourself with Enfire, then use Saboteurs to cast Deshell and Imperil on Humbaba. Once the buffs and debuffs are in place, pull out your Ravagers and deal massive damage to end him.

1.6: Missions 51-60

Mission 51: Attacus, the Soulless

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Attacus
  • Cie'th Stone location: Faultwarrens - Sylphid Path/Gaian Path/Salamandrine Path/Nereid Path
  • Mark location: Faultwarrens - Titan's Throne
  • Reward: Genji Glove

In order to face this guy, you must first complete every other mission in Titan's trials, then the Cie'th Stone for his mission will activate in the final areas of the gauntlet. He is one of the strongest enemies in the game, sporting over 9 million HP and a stagger point of 999.9%. On top of this, he's able to deal some serious damage.

To beat him, get a party consisting of Fang, Lightning and Snow. Set up your Paradigms so as to have SAB/RAV/RAV, SYN/RAV/RAV, RAV/RAV/SEN, COM/COM/SEN, SAB/COM/SEN and SYN/COM/SEN. The idea here is to have Snow as Sentinel for the majority of the battle, as he can sustain his HP through Mediguard and never require healing. Feel free to use Fortisol and Aegisol before the battle, as this will remove the need to buff yourself at the beginning. Start in SAB/RAV/RAV and stick Attacus with Slow and Deprotect, then change to SAB/RAV/RAV to give Fang and Lightning the Bravera buff. Switch to RAV/RAV/SEN and attack away until the stagger bar reaches ~300.0%, then change to COM/COM/SEN.Whenever Attacus uses a special skill he'll remove his debuffs, so you should change to SAB/COM/SEN to stick him with Slow and Deprotect again, then to SYN/COM/SEN to buff Fang and Lightning with Bravera and Haste (if Fang has learnt Haste yet).

This tactic can be repeated until he falls. If however you're too weak to survive the initial buff/debuff, feel free to adjust both starting Paradigms so that Snow is a Sentinel in those too. This way, there is next to no threat of dying.

Mission 52: Head in the Clouds

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Zirnitra
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Western Benchland
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors
  • Reward: Gale Ring

This is the same as Mission 46, so use the same tactic as there: debuff him and Ravage him while a Sentinel takes the damage, or use Vanille's Death skill.

Mission 53: Freedom from Fear

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Zirnitra
  • Cie'th Stone location: Mah'habara - An Asylum from Light
  • Mark location: Yaschas Massif - The Pass of Paddra
  • Reward: Blaze Ring

Once again, it's Zirnitra. He has some accompanying allies, but they pose little threat. Same strategy applies.

Mission 54: The Bigger They Are...

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Gigantuar
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Northern Highplain
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors
  • Reward: Cactuar Doll

In order to activate this Cie'th Stone, you must first witness an event with Sazh and a wild Cactuar in Eastern Tors (next to Mission 16).

This guy can be quite difficult to beat, as he'll frequently use 10,000 Needles, which will hit one member for up to 10,000 damage. The best way to beat him is to take advantage of his susceptibility to the latent ability Random: Instant Chain. A character can receive this ability by equipping a weapon with the Stagger Lock or Quick Stagger ability, along with a Speed Sash, Energy Sash, Champion's Badge or Survivalist Catalog. Essentially what this ability does is randomly stagger an enemy when attacked.

The best character to do this with is Sazh, as his Full ATB Skill, Cold Blood, will hit the enemy 17 times, meaning you'll have 17 chances of it automatically staggering him each turn. Have Sazh spam Cold Blood while his allies - as Medic and Sentinel - heal and defend, respectively.

Mission 55: Can't We All Just Get Along?

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Neochu
  • Cie'th Stone location: Oerba - Deserted Schoolhouse
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Aggra's Pasture
  • Reward: Growth Egg

Once again, we're pitted against Neochu, except this time she has a group of Picochus helping her. The best course of action here is the Death method. Get a party of Vanille, Hope and Snow, with Vanille as leader. Set your Paradigms up to have SAB/MED/SEN, RAV/RAV/SEN and RAV/MED/SEN. Use Aegisol and Fortisol before the battle if you feel like it, then head in and start casting Death on Neochu. The Picochus will attack Snow while Hope heals him, so with any luck Neochu's attacks won't kill Vanille too quickly. Keep casting Death until it kills Neochu (do note this may a fair few attempts, depending on your level). It is highly recommended you have Vanille's Malboro Wand for Increased Debuff II, as this will make sticking Neochu with Death considerably easier.

Once you manage to defeat Neochu, alternate between RAV/RAV/SEN and RAV/MED/SEN to take out the Picochus one by one.

Note: The reward - Growth Egg - gives double CP when equipped. Because this is so very good, it is highly recommended you complete this mission as soon as Vanille learns Death. This will make maxing out the Crystarium for everyone a lot easier in the long run.

Mission 56: A Toothy Grin

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Ugallu
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors
  • Mark location: Yaschas Massif - The Ascendant Scarp
  • Reward: Rhodochrosite

Once again, we face Ugallu with his Munchkin backup. This should be very easy now - just use ice and wind attacks to deal heavy damage.

Mission 57: What's Yours is Brine

  • Rank: C
  • Mark: Sahagin
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors
  • Mark location: Vallis Media - Atzilut's Tears
  • Reward: Uraninite

Nothing new here. They're in numbers, but you can easily with with fire and thunder attacks.

Mission 58: The Culler of Many

  • Rank: Humbaba
  • Mark: A
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors
  • Mark location: Mah'habara - The Earthworks
  • Reward: Speed Sash

Same as the battle in the Titan's trials, except he has a weak robot ally alongside him. Employ fire-based attacks and Enfire to kill him before he stands up and take care of his support. Simple.

Mission 59: Two-Faced Fiend

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Zirnitra
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors
  • Mark location: Sulyya Springs - Subterranean Lake
  • Reward: Energy Sash

For the fourth time, you're tasked with taking on Zirnitra. He has Ceratosaurs and Ceratoraptors as company, but they won't pose a threat. Once again, debuff him and Ravage him while a Sentinel takes the damage, or use Vanille's Death skill.

Mission 60: Dégelà Vu

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Gelatitan
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors
  • Mark location: Taejin's Tower - The Cloven Spire
  • Reward: Mnar Stone

This guy again, or should I say guys. Three Gelatitans this time, but you should be easily strong enough for it. If possible you should Pre-emptive Strike then, then employ thunder attacks with Ravagers to stagger them one by one. Have a Medic on standby in case they manage to deal heavy damage, but this shouldn't really be much of an issue.

1.7: Missions 61-64

Mission 61: I, Juggernaught

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Juggernaught
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors
  • Mark location: Oerba - Village Proper
  • Reward: Royal Armlet

More or less identical to the previous Juggernaught battle: use Synergists to cast Barfire, then stagger with Ravagers and change to Commandos. Alternatively, use Vanille's Death skill.

Mission 62: Indomitable Will

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Raktavija
  • Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Central Expanse
  • Reward: Genji Glove

First of all, a Chocobo will be required to reach the Mark location. Prepare with Aegisol and Fortisol, as this is going to be one of the hardest battles in the game - two Raktavijas. Get a party of Fang, Vanille and Hope with the following Paradigms: RAV/RAV/RAV, COM/RAV/RAV, SAB/SYN/RAV, RAV/MED/MED, COM/COM/COM. Start in SAB/SYN/RAV and cast Slow on both Raktavijas, and Deprotect and Imperil on one. With that done, change to RAV/RAV/RAV and hammer the debuffed Raktavija until it staggers. Change to COM/RAV/RAV and deal as much damage before the stagger runs out - it should take two staggers to defeat each Raktavija. If you ever need to heal, change to RAV/MED/MED and do just that.

Repeat this until the first Raktavija is dead, at which point it becomes considerably easier. Stick the remaining one with Slow, Deprotect and Imperil while buffing yourself, then stagger him. Change to COM/COM/COM and attack it until it dies. The key in this battle is to ensure they are both always kept under the effect of Slow, otherwise they'll barrage you with their powerful attacks and you'll likely fail.

Mission 63: Crushed by Doubt

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Adamantoise
  • Cie'th Stone location: Sulyya Springs - Subterranean Lake
  • Mark location: Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors
  • Reward: Genji Glove

This enemy can be a little tough if you don't know what you're doing, though luckily it is susceptible to Vanille's Death skill. Start the battle with Vanille as leader and immediately summon Hecatoncheirs - this will cause the Adamantoise to collapse, allowing you to Death him without threat for a while. Leave Hecatoncheirs to do whatever while you debuff the Adamantoise before casting Death constantly. With Sprint Shoes, you should get about 15 casts before he stands back up, at which point you can either keep casting Death until you die, or simply retry. It shouldn't take long for it to hit him. As always with Death, having Malboro Wand will hasten the process considerably.

Mission 64: The Doomherald

  • Rank: A
  • Mark: Vercingetorix
  • Cie'th Stone location: Oerba - Rust-eaten Bridge
  • Mark location: Yaschas Massif - Paddraean Archaeopolis
  • Reward: Gold Watch

At least, the final mission. This guy can take a while to defeat, but there are some good methods for taking him down relatively easily. Have a party of Vanille, Lightning and Hope, with Vanille as leader. Set up your Paradigms to have SAB/SAB/SAB, RAV/RAV/RAV, RAV/COM/RAV, SYN/SYN/SYN, MED/MED/MED and SEN/SEN/SEN. Buff up with Aegisol and Fortisol before you begin, as it'll help get you started.

Start in SAB/SAB/SAB, then use a Librascope on Vercingetorix so that your teammates know what to use. Start sticking him with as many debuffs as possible, particularly with Poison. Unlike other Final Fantasy games, Poison in FFXIII deals a set percentage of a target's total HP, which makes it extremely helpful in depleting his 16 million HP. Once Poison and a few other debuffs have hit, change to RAV/RAV/RAV and attempt to stagger him. If you stagger him, change to RAV/COM/RAV to deal more damage. Chances are however that he'll cast Impenetrable Aura, which will render him temporarily invulnerable, along with removing all debuffs, emptying the chain gauge and healing 8% of the damage done to him. This is the time for you to change to SYN/SYN/SYN for buffing and MED/MED/MED for healing. Once he loses his shield, repeat this process.

Every so often, Vercingetorix will use a skill called Wicked Whirl. When you see the words appear on screen, immediately change to SEN/SEN/SEN, then to MED/MED/MED after the attack to heal.

Once Vercingetorix drops below 10 million HP, stick Poison on him and then summon Hecatoncheirs. Fill up the Gestalt Bar, then enter Gestalt Mode. Keep using Chain Cannons at the last moment, as this will allow Hecatoncheirs to stay for a long time, meaning the Poison will have time to deal up to 5 million damage in one summon. If you have an Elixir, you can use this immediately after finishing Gestalt Mode to refill your TP bar and summon Hecatoncheirs again. This way, you can Poison him again and enter Gestalt Mode, repeating the same process so as to drain his remaining 5 million HP, killing him. If however you do not have an Elixir, wait until his HP drops to 5 million before summoning Hecatoncheir, as Vercingetorix is deadlier the more damage he takes.

Note: After defeating Vercingetorix, you'll receive the Gold Watch. When equipped, this will increase the time in battles for receiving a 5-star rating, meaning you'll be able to take longer in the Missions and still attain 5 stars. This is fantastic for 5-starring any Missions you failed to 5-star previously.

Finally finished them all! Thanks a lot for the guide mate, some of the Paradigm recommendations really saved my arse :)

None of them were particularly challenging, I raged at 64 as you know, but once I developed the roles a bit and actually had 3 SEN and 3 SAB, it was pretty easy. 62 was a doddle, dunno what you were smoking when you thought that was difficult! :p

It's been a while since this game was released. I have picked it up again after a number of years and would like to know if there is a way to find out which cieth missions I have already completed or not [without having to track down the individual locations etc]?

I think if you check the crystals where you get the missions, they'll be ticked off. Or it's an option on the menu (:triangle:) I can't remember exactly but there's 100% a way to check.

Thanks Krid. I am hoping there is just a list somewhere in the menu that shows me which ones I've done and the star rating, though I think that might be too much to ask =/ Having to go back and forth between the stones to figure out which ones I have fully-completed is going to be a pain in the arse! lol

After your post, I did some research and I think when you're down on Gran Pulse, press :square: twice and it'll show Ci'eth missions and your ratings...there's definitely a much easier way than having to go to every single crystal :p

Thanks for letting me know, saved me a ton of time. I completely forgot about accessing the map through a shortcut, I kept trying to press select...

Very close to finishing the missions now, just going through to get 5* on all.

Thanks very musch for the excellent guide, very useful alongside the Piggyback one.

Hey, used your guide a while ago to get these trophies. Finally got an account and decided to drop by and offer my thanks. I seriously doubt I could have gotten all these completed on my own. The clear descriptions and recommendations for each target you provided made this so much simpler to do. Thank you for taking the time to make such a well done guide.
