IMPORTANT NOTES

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd512/Shiguma/PS3T/Line.jpg

This Road Map & Trophy Guide is originally based on the Japanese Version of Final Fantasy XIII-2. As such, when the English Version is released, there will be inevitable differences in some of the enemy names, item names, location names and so forth, because somehow I doubt Square Enix will refer to "crystals that open gates" as "Ooparts" in the English Version. :p When the time comes, I will need to rely on the community to let me know which names need to be changed. Please leave me a note in this thread or as a Visitor Message and I will make modifications as soon as I can.

Like the first Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2 comes with Custom Themes for the XMB that are unlocked as you earn trophies and are accessible from the main menu, under "Special." Also like the first Final Fantasy XIII, installing these themes and continuing forward in the game - without quitting first - can cause certain trophies to not unlock, even if the requirements are met. Just to be safe, quit the game after installing these themes, or don't bother with them at all until you've obtained the Platinum.

Finally, note that you DO NOT need a Final Fantasy XIII Save File in order to play (and Platinum) Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Walkthrough

http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd512/Shiguma/PS3T/Line.jpg

Step #1 (20-30 Hours) - Complete the Main Story

First and foremost, all trophies except Fair Fighter (G) can be earned on Easy Difficulty. You can change difficulties in the Options menu at any time, so if you want to maximize speed to the (P) and don't care about being challenged, set it to Easy Difficulty from the get-go and leave it that way until it's time for Fair Fighter (G).

There's no need to worry a lot about trophies at this time; simply play to the end of the main story and enjoy it. You will unlock the following story-related trophies:

Early Riser (B) (Begin Episode 1)

Time Traveler (B) (Begin Episode 2)

Future Espier (B) (Begin Episode 3A)

Past Gazer (B) (Begin Episode 3B)

Threat Facer (B) (Begin Episode 4)

Sooth Seeker (B) (Begin Episode 5)

Promise Keeper (B) (Begin Episode 6)

Epic Finisher (G) (Beat the Main Story)

In addition to the aforementioned, you should also earn en route to the end of the main story:

Budding Hunter (S) (Defeat 100 Enemies)

No Retreat (B) (Win 50 Battles w/o Retry)

Quick Draw (B) (Perform 50 Preemptive Strikes)

Staggering (B) (Stagger 50 Enemies)

Wild Thing (B) (Perform 100 Feral Links)

Also en route to the end of the main story, if you choose to be ambitious in terms of boss battle ranks, you can save some time and knock out:

Trigger Finger (S) (5 Cinematic Bonus Rewards in Episodes 2-4)

Scarlet Medal (B) (5 Star Rank on a boss in Episode 2)

Cerulean Medal (B) (5 Star Rank on a boss in Episode 4)

Obsidian Medal (B) (5 Star Rank on a boss in Episode 6)

Chronosavior (G) (5 Star Rank on the last boss in Episode 6)

During this step, try to fight as much and as often as you can; don't run from fights, as 100% Enemy Report is a requirement for one of the Fragments (See Step #2 and the Defragmented (G) trophy). Similarly, explore each and every corner of the maps; you will need to find Reversal Rocks from each area (most are in treasure chests) in order to do Time Reversals later on, and like 100% Enemy Report, 100% Map Completion of every location is also a requirement for not just one, but TEN Fragments. You may also find Wild Artifacts (crystals that open Blue Gates) as you explore; don't use them recklessly at this point and get side-tracked, save them for Step #2. Finally, check out the Anomalous (S) trophy, as you can (and should) earn Paradox Ending #1 when you reach Episode 5.

Step #2 (20-30 Hours) - Work Toward Defragmented (G)

Now that you've completed the main story, be sure to talk to the Chocobo Girl in Serendipity to obtain the "Paradox Scope" Fragment Skill. Paradox Scope allows you to earn Paradox Endings which are a part of an even greater goal: the Defragmented (G) trophy.

There are 160 Fragments to collect in Final Fantasy XIII-2. About ~40 or so will come naturally en route to the end of the main story, and after that it is a fairly non-linear ~120 side-quest scavenger hunt across all of the previously visited areas as well as a dozen or so more that can be accessed via opening Blue Gates with Wild Artifacts. Refer to the Defragmented (G) trophy for more information.

In this step, you will unlock:

Fragmented (S) (Collect all Fragments in 1 Fragment Category)

Big Game Hunter (S) (Defeat Immortal, Long Gui, Ochu, and Yomi: Required for 4 Fragments)

Anomalous (S) (See all 8 Paradox Endings: Required for 8 Fragments, as well as the Secret Ending after all 160 Fragments have been collected)

Defragmented (G) (Collect all 160 Fragments)

In addition to the aforementioned, you should also earn en route to all 160 Fragments:

Strategist (B) (Perform 1,000 Paradigm Shifts)

Serendipitous (B) (Earn 10,000 Casino Coins in Serendipity)

Choco-boco-holic (B) (Spend 100,000 Gil)

If you start to burn out on the 160 Fragment hunt, feel free to dabble in the trophies listed in Step #3.

Step #3 - Clean Up (If Necessary)

At this point, you might still be missing a few trophies that are not necessarily required to complete the main story or collect all 160 Fragments:

Clock Stopper (B) (Perform 100 CONSECUTIVE Preemptive Strikes)

Saddle Sore (B) (Travel 10,000 steps while on a Chocobo)

Supreme Being (S) (Reach Level 99 in all 6 Roles)

Beast Tamer (G) (Befriend Don Tonberry)

Fair Fighter (G) (Defeat Raspatil on Normal Difficulty)

Giant's Fist (G) (Deal 99,999 damage in a Single Attack)

Refer to the individual trophies for methods on how to obtain these (and any others you might still need).

Good luck, and enjoy Final Fantasy XIII-2!

Obtained five Cinematic Bonus rewards.

Cinematic Bonus rewards are items received at the end of boss battles containing QTEs. If you succeed flawlessly on the QTEs, "Cinematic Action: Perfect!" will be displayed center on the screen. You will also receive an item with "Cinematic Bonus" written to the left of it on the spoils screen. There are 5 boss battles to earn Cinematic Bonus rewards from:

1. Episode 2 - Bresha Ruins AF005 - Paradox Alpha

2. Episode 2 - Bresha Ruins AF005 - Atlas (Weakened Version)

3. Episode 3 - Sunleth Waterscape AF300 - Royal Ripeness (1st Battle)

4. Episode 4 - City of Academia AF400 - Zenobia

5. Episode 4 - Augusta Tower AF200 - Proto fal'Cie Adam (2nd Battle)

Final Fantasy XIII-2's QTEs are not hard at all and this trophy shouldn't intimidate anyone, but in case you do make mistakes and fail to earn a Cinematic Bonus reward from one of the aforementioned battles, you can either:

1. Hit :start: to Pause as soon as you make mistakes and Retry the entire battle, or...

2. Return later and attempt the boss battle a second (or third, or fourth) time via a Time Reversal. Remember that in order to do a Time Reversal, you need a Reversal Rock from the area first.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/0C1.jpg Anomalous http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_silver.png

Witnessed every possible Paradox Ending.

There are 8 Paradox Endings as well as 1 Secret Ending that is unlocked once all 160 Fragments have been collected - You need to see all 9 of the aforementioned endings for this trophy. Except for the 1st, all Paradox Endings require the use of the "Paradox Scope" Fragment Skill that can be obtained from the Chocobo Girl in Serendipity after completing the main story.

If you are in Step #1 of the Road Map, AKA "I haven't finished the main story yet," feel free to read the following spoiler, as Paradox Ending #1 can (and should) be earned en route to the end of the main story.

[spoiler=anomalousone]Paradox Ending #1: Fate and Freedom

1. Paradox Scope = N/A.

2. Episode 5 - Neo Bodhum (Year Unknown).

3. In a Live Trigger conversation with Lightning, tell her "I accept this world."

If you are in Step #2 of the Road Map, AKA "I have finished the main story and am collecting 160 Fragments," feel free to read the following spoiler for the requirements to Paradox Endings #2-8, as well as the Secret Ending.

[spoiler=anomaloustwo]Paradox Ending #2: The Future is Hope

1. Paradox Scope = ON.

2. Go to City of Academia AF4XX and use Time Reversal.

3. Proceed to talk with Hope and Alyssa until they request parts of the Graviton Core. Turn them all in to Alyssa, then in the Live Trigger conversation, refuse the Artifact.

Paradox Ending #3: A Giant Mistake

1. Paradox Scope = ON.

2. Go to Bresha Ruins AF005 and use Time Reversal.

3. Defeat Atlas without weakening him first.

2. Go to Sunleth Waterscape AF300 and use Time Reversal.

4. Exit back out to the city. Enter gate to the Time-Space Interval with the Artifact you received from Alyssa.

5. Follow along the path, talking to Yule as you did in the main story, then defeat Caius in a 1-on-1 battle with Serah. Note that even on Easy Difficulty with a Level 99 in all 6 Roles Serah and Tier 5 monster companions, this can be one of the more challenging battles in the game.

Paradox Ending #8: Heir to Chaos

1. Paradox Scope = OFF.

2. Go to City of Academia AF4XX and use Time Reversal.

3. Proceed to talk with Hope and Alyssa until they request parts of the Graviton Core. Turn them all in to Alyssa, then in the Live Trigger conversation, accept the Artifact.

4. Exit back out to the city. Enter gate to the Time-Space Interval with the Artifact you received from Alyssa.

5. Follow along the path, talking to Yule as you did in the main story, then defeat Caius in a 1-on-1 battle with Serah. Again, note that Paradox Scope = OFF for this battle.

6. Follow along with the events in Neo Bodhum (Year Unknown). Now would be a good time to turn Paradox Scope = ON.

7. In a Live Trigger conversation with Lightning, tell her "I won't accept it."

8. Enter the time distortion to A Dying World AF700. Follow along with the events as you did in the main story, then defeat Caius in a 1-on-1 battle with Noel. Again, note that Paradox Scope = ON for this battle.

Secret Ending (160 Fragments Required)

1. Paradox Scope = ON.

2. Go to City of Academia AF500. Time Reversal is not necessary.

3. Proceed to defeat Caius and the 3x Chaos Bahamuts as you did in the main story. After all of the same ending events, there will be bonus scenes tacked on to the end - this is the Secret Ending.

After watching the Secret Ending, Anomalous (S) will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/E74.jpg Epic Finisher (G)

Followed the story to its conclusion.

Story-related and cannot be missed. It will unlock at the end of the main story.

Went the distance on chocobo-back.

Travel 10,000 steps while on a chocobo; chocobo riding time can come naturally, but at the end of the road, you still might not have enough due to the fact that time required moving on a chocobo is at least a few hours.

Easiest method to tackle this is to find a broad, open area (the west side of Archylte Steppe is a good candidate) that has a Yellow Chocobo (so that only one Gysahl Green is consumed). Ride the Yellow Chocobo out to that open area and use a rubber band to hold :ls: either left or right, so that the chocobo runs in a circle; make sure that there are aren't any walls, rocks, or other obstructions in the area that the chocobo can get stuck on. Leave it on overnight and the trophy will unlock upon dismounting from the chocobo in the morning.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/CAA.jpg Serendipitous (B)

Amassed a fortune in casino coins.

Earn a total of 10,000 Casino Coins from Chocobo Racing and/or Slot Machines in the casino, Serendipity. You *cannot* exchange Gil for Casino Coins and have it count toward this trophy (however, such exchanges *do* count toward Choco-boco-holic (B)). The coins need to be earned, and note that it is a NET GAIN of 10,000 Casino Coins ie. coin losses subtract from the total earned. This means it is vital to save beforehand and load if you lose a bunch of coins.

If you choose to tackle this via Chocobo Racing, I recommend the Gold Chocobo that can be found in a treasure chest in A Dying World AF700. Raise it to the maximum level (Level 45) and it should be a formidable force on the race track; this is a "slow and steady" but reliable route to the goal.

Personally, I chose to earn the 10,000 Casino Coins from Slot Machines for a few reasons:

1. The "Lucky Coin" Fragment must be acquired from 777 Jackpots on the Slot Machines, so - like it or not - Slot Machine time is a requirement for 160 Fragments, whereas there are no Fragments related to Chocobo Racing. Might as well kill two birds with one stone!

2. Slot Machines do not require you to pay attention to the game; just use a rubber band to hold down :l1: and leave it on overnight. In the morning, if you earned 10,000 Casino Coins and/or the "Lucky Coin" Fragment, that's excellent! If not, just load a previous save (in order to recoup the Casino Coins lost) and keep at it. It's all about luck.

3. If you are extremely lucky, you can win between 5,000 ~ 50,000 Casino Coins in Victory and Super Victory modes on the Slot Machines. The rewards are a lot higher than those from Chocobo Racing.

Also, note that the trophy unlocks upon exiting out of the Chocobo Races and/or Slot Machines, once the requirement has been satisfied.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/6DE.jpg Choco-boco-holic (B)

Spent a fortune at shops.

Spend a total of 100,000 Gil in the game's shops. Both Chocorina's shop as well as the currency exchanger in the casino, Serendipity, count toward this trophy. Note that unlike Final Fantasy XIII, Gil is awarded after all battles in Final Fantasy XIII-2.

You should have earned a total of 100,000 Gil before the end of the main story, if not shortly thereafter. If you want to hasten this trophy's acquisition, simply sell off all of your items and equipment to ramp up to 100,000 Gil. Spend enough Gil to make the trophy unlock, then just load a previous save (in order to recoup the Gil lost).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/214.jpg Clock Stopper (B)

Responded swiftly to the appearance of enemies.

Perform 100 CONSECUTIVE Preemptive Strikes to earn this trophy (refer to Quick Draw (B) for more information on Preemptive Strikes). All 100 must be done in a row; if the timer runs out or an enemy touches you, the counter resets back to 0. Make liberal use of the Save feature (every ~10 or so Preemptive Strikes) so in the event that the streak breaks, you can Load and continue from your previous count; this has been confirmed to work for the trophy.

It's possible that this trophy can come naturally, but personally, I had to grind for it; it took a little over an hour. I recommend the west side of Archylte Steppe because enemies there are relatively timid and never rush you, unlike other areas w/ aggressive enemies like Vile Peaks. Another recommended location is Oerba Village AF200, and a third, courtesy of Blood_Runs_Cold:

A very excellent place to get the "Clock Stopper" trophy is, believe it or not, the very first main section of the game!

In New Bodhum, before you exit the map through the time gate, there is a long sliver of land in the NE section called "Tidal Shallows." In this section, there are two or three guards patrolling the area, and on this island there are only two types of enemies. Sarracenia (mushroom guy) and Specerillian (little frog lizard guy).

Neither of these enemies are aggressive and will just stand there when encountered. This is a 100% guaranteed place to get the 100 preemptive fights in a row out of the way, PLUS it doesn't hurt to pad your Crystarium either. By doing so, it becomes extremely easy to 5* the fight with Atlas in the next chapter as well.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/148.jpg Fragmented (S)

Completed an entire fragment category.

As the description indicates, complete one Fragment Category for this trophy. Since it is a part of the main story, one of the easiest candidates is the Graviton Core:

Completed every fragment category.

(This trophy unlocks Serah's Theme for the XMB).

First and foremost, note the locations of the 10x Wild Artifacts that need to be found. Wild Artifacts are for opening Blue Gates that lead to areas not directly related to the main story (but very related to this trophy):

1. A Dying World AF700: Return later and examine the goddess statue next to the gate, obtained after the events (requires Moogle Hunt).

2. Archylte Steppe: In the northwest section of the map, slightly out of view on a cliff ledge you need to angle the camera down to see (requires Moogle Throw).

3. Augusta Tower AF200: Found on Floor 50 (requires Moogle Hunt).

4. Bresha Ruins AF005: In the area near Chocorina (requires Moogle Hunt).

5. Bresha Ruins AF300: Reward for completing a Fragment Mission (Iridium Ring).

6. City of Academia AF4XX: In the southeast section of the map (requires Moogle Hunt).

7. Oerba Village AF200: In the northwest section of the map (requires Moogle Throw).

8. Serendipity: Can be purchased for 10,000 Casino Coins (7,500 Casino Coins if you have the "Deflation" Fragment Skill).

9. Sunleth Waterscape AF300: Around the southern side of the large beast you ride on (requires Moogle Throw).

10. Yaschas Massif AF100: Reward for completing the Time Labyrinth.

Video courtesy of

PowerPyx:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKO_4QUPOA0]Final Fantasy XIII-2 - All Wild Artefacts (Location Guide) - YouTube[/ame]

Defragmented (G) can feel overwhelming because of the sheer number of Fragments that need to be collected - 160 - but it's not that hard at all due to the fact that the Historia Crux has an in-game counter for both Fragments Collected and Gates Opened in each area, ie. "Neo Bodhum AF003: 1/1 Gates Opened, 2/4 Fragments Collected." It's easy to see where Wild Artifacts need to be used, as well as where to search for Fragments. The fact that the Moogle will scream "KUPOPOPO~!!" and fly straight towards the Fragments a lot of the time is also helpful, if a bit hard on the ears after a while. :p

Fragments can be found in several ways...

1. Out in the open (may require Moogle Hunt, Moogle Throw, or both).

2. In treasure boxes and treasure chests (as mentioned above, these too may require Moogle Hunt, Moogle Throw, or both).

3. As rewards for fetch quests, defeating bosses, or other NPC-initiated side-quests. As a rule of thumb, if a NPC has a "speech bubble" above his head, he is worth talking to and could have a Fragment Mission for you. Note that there are Fragment Missions that are prerequisites for other Fragment Missions, and also note that to complete objectives, you may need to time travel in between past, present, and future versions of the areas.

4. As rewards from the Time Labyrinth. There are A LOT of these in Oerba Village, as well as a few in Yaschas Massif and other locations; they're not particularly hard, and you have infinite tries to beat them.

...and so forth. As "linearity and not enough exploration" was a common criticism of the first Final Fantasy XIII, I expect that a lot of folks should embrace this task w/ open arms. ;) If you are thorough and explore each and every location to its fullest, 80% or more of the 160 Fragments will be a slam dunk; most are extremely intuitive.

However, there are a few that are less intuitive and deserve mention (most are initiated in City of Academia):

100% Enemy Report

In City of Academia AF4XX, there is an NPC, "Doctor M," who will request 100% Enemy Report in exchange for the "Monster Professor" Fragment; for most people, this will be the last of the 160 Fragments that they obtain. For an enemy to count toward this Fragment, it simply needs to be found, engaged, and defeated; you do not need to Libra scan it or anything else for it to be counted and listed in the Enemy Report. There is a little over 200 monsters in total (note that DLC monsters like Omega do not count) and the full list w/ locations in Japanese can be found here: [FF13-2攻略] エネミーレポート一覧. Lethal-Hjorth has compiled a list for the English version that can be found here: http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/final-fantasy-xiii-2/145033-100-beastiary-list.html.

If you were thorough, explored around a lot, and rarely ran from a fight, 90% of the Enemy Report should fill itself naturally. However, there are a few enemies that are a bit trickier to find:

1. The 3rd form of Proto fal'Cie Adam in Augusta Tower AF200, which requires you to intentionally fail the QTEs on the 2nd form.

2. The three monsters in the "Woodwraith" category. All three have the same spawn point, the northeast corner of City of Academia AF500 - It is a circular platform, directly to the right of the where the final boss battle starts. On this platform, one monster can spawn, or a group of two monsters can spawn; these are the three Woodwraiths. However, here's the catch: after you defeat either the 1 monster or the 2 monsters, the remaining Woodwraith(s) will not spawn unless you do a Time Reversal on the area and run all the way back to the northeast corner.

3. The seven Cactuars. One of them, the Metal Cactuar, can be found in A Dying World AF700, the other six all appear in Archylte Steppe under different weather conditions. The tricky one here is "Giant Cactuar." Both a male "Cactuar" and a female "Flowering Cactuar" can be found in Archylte Steppe, and when in battle with the male Cactuar, don't defeat it right away, just defend and heal for a while because there is a chance that it will transform into a stronger form called Giant Cactuar. Also note that there is a rare Cactuar, the "Metal Gigantuar," who will also appear in Archylte Steppe and looks like a "void" similar to Raspatil, Death Gaze, Don Tonberry, and other rare monsters.

4. Geiseric, an enormous Cie'th located around the northwest side of City of Academia AF400. You probably noticed him in Episode 4 en route to the end of the main story, and if you approached him at that time, you probably died a hilarious death. Don't forget to return there to exact revenge (as well as his record in the Enemy Report)!

5. Dreadnought, who can be found on the south side of Vile Peaks AF010 in the metallic tunnels. He is not technically a rare monster, but his spawn rate is incredibly low and it took me ~30 minutes of running back and forth until he appeared.

100% Map Completion

In City of Academia AF400, in the southeast section of the map, there is a NPC who will reward you w/ a Fragment for each of 9 locations (Bresha Ruins, Yaschas Massif, Oerba Village, Sunleth Waterscape, City of Academia, Augusta Tower, Archylte Steppe, Vile Peaks, and A Dying World) if you bring her a 100% Completed Map. In addition to those 9 Fragments, a 10th Fragment - Paradox Professor - will be awarded after completion of all 9 locations.

100% Map Completion can (and will) require travel between all the various times that a location exists in, as some sections of a map can be blocked off in one time, but are accessible in a different time. Some sections of a map require Chocobos in order to reach, as Chocobos jump farther than the characters can; Archylte Steppe is the best example, there is a pillar on the southeast side of the map that has to be reached via a Chocobo jump. You can check an area's Map Completion % via looking at the map itself (:square: button) and/or the map item listed under Key Items.

Captain Cryptic ("Daddy Bear" in the JP Version) and the Quiz Machines

In City of Academia AF4XX, there are 9 Fragments related to Quiz Mini-Games. 4 are from Quiz Machines and 5 are from Captain Cryptic, an NPC who requires Moogle Hunt to detect and randomly teleports to one of a dozen different locations around the city upon success/failure of one of his quizzes. Quiz questions are about Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy XIII, and even the Final Fantasy series as a whole. They're delivered at random, but there is a finite number of quiz questions (they will often repeat themselves, so pay attention and take notes) and you have infinite tries to beat them.

The hardest part is FINDING Captain Cryptic himself in the massive city, but fear not! There is a map of his spawn points at the following link: FF13-2 (ファイナルファンタジー13-2) 攻略の虎 | ダディベア.

Skyripper has also compiled a comprehensive list of all quiz questions and answers, which can be found here: http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/final-fantasy-xiii-2/144353-daddy-bear-quiz-machines-questions-answers-guide.html.

Paradox Endings

Refer to Anomalous (S) for more information. There are 8 Fragments (and a lot of free CP) to be earned via Paradox Endings.

Serendipity

There are 5 Fragments to be earned in the casino, Serendipity. 1 Fragment can be found out in the open (search in the Chocobo Racing tent) and 3 Fragments can be bought - note that the "Chaos Crystal" Fragment, once obtained, should be immediately taken to City of Academia AF4XX. Talk to Hope in order to receive Odinblade and Odinbolt, Noel and Serah's strongest weapons when maxed out at 160 Fragments. Odinblade and Odinbolt are "Fragment Weapons" and their stats depend on the number of Fragments in your possession; one of the two Fragment Weapons can be received on the spot for free, the other will be available for Casino Coins at Serendipity.

The 5th and final Fragment is the infamous Lucky Coin, which is a random reward from 777 Jackpots on the Slot Machines. As mentioned under Serendipitous (B), just use a rubber band to hold down :l1: and leave it on overnight until Lucky Coin shows up. Personally, I received it in no more than 30 minutes of effort on the Slot Machines, but there are a lot of horror stories of it taking 20+ hours across several sessions, so be aware that the time investment here is a very random affair and it is luck-based.

Defeated a powerful enemy with graceful poise.

Earn a rank of 5 Stars in the battle with Atlas (Weakened Version) in Episode 2 - You'll encounter him in Bresha Ruins AF005.

Set battles to Easy Difficulty for a better chance to earn 5 Stars. If you aren't confident in your performance, hit :start: to Pause before the end of the battle and Retry it. You can also return later and attempt the boss battle a second (or third, or fourth) time via a Time Reversal. Remember that in order to do a Time Reversal, you need a Reversal Rock from the area first.

Defeated a powerful enemy with valiant skill.

Earn a rank of 5 Stars in the battle with Proto fal'Cie Adam in Episode 4 - You'll encounter him in Augusta Tower AF200. Note that there are actually THREE forms of Proto fal'Cie Adam. If you defeat the 1st and 2nd forms and succeed at the QTEs (which are the requirements for this trophy), you'll never encounter the 3rd form. However, the 3rd form is needed later on for 100% Enemy Report - Intentionally fail at the QTEs to make the 3rd form show up when the time comes for 160 Fragments (Step #2 of the Road Map).

Set battles to Easy Difficulty for a better chance to earn 5 Stars. If you aren't confident in your performance, hit :start: to Pause before the end of the battle and Retry it. You can also return later and attempt the boss battle a second (or third, or fourth) time via a Time Reversal. Defeated a powerful enemy with perfect execution.

Earn a rank of 5 Stars in the battle with Paco Amethyst & Paco Luvulite in Episode 6 - You'll encounter them in City of Academia AF500. Note that Paco Amethyst & Paco Luvulite need to be defeated somewhat simultaneously; if only one of them is left alive for too long, he will Raise his dead companion.

Set battles to Easy Difficulty for a better chance to earn 5 Stars. If you aren't confident in your performance, hit :start: to Pause before the end of the battle and Retry it. http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/4C1.jpg Staggering (B)

Staggered a significant number of enemies.

Stagger 50 enemies for this trophy. Like in the first Final Fantasy XIII, enemies can be Staggered by increasing their Stagger Meter to the maximum, at which time the damage multiplier on Noel and Serah's attacks increases significantly. And also like in the first Final Fantasy XIII, Paradigm Shift into the Ravager Role in order to Stagger enemies quickly.

Like Budding Hunter (S), Staggering (B) is an easy one; it unlocked for me in Chapter 2, and it was the 5th trophy I earned in the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/2D9.jpg Quick Draw (B)

Performed a significant number of preemptive strikes.

Perform 50 Preemptive Strikes for this trophy, and note that unlike Clock Stopper (B), they do not need to be consecutive. As soon as enemies spawn, press :cross: to sword slash them before the timer runs out to do a Preemptive Strike. Noel and Serah will be rewarded with a free hit (as well as Haste) when the battle begins.

Like Budding Hunter (S), Quick Draw (B) is an easy one; it unlocked for me in Chapter 2, and it was the 6th trophy I earned in the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/0AB.jpg Wild Thing (B)

Successfully used Feral Link abilities a significant number of times.

Use 100 Feral Link abilities for this trophy. Feral Links can be done via the :square: button (when the Feral Link meter is full) while in battles. You also must succeed at the Feral Link QTEs; failed Feral Link QTEs will not count toward the 100 required.

As long as you use Feral Link abilities as often as you can, this trophy will come naturally; Wild Thing (B) unlocked for me in Episode 4.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/F92.jpg No Retreat (B)

Fought a significant number of battles without using the "Retry" option.

Win 50 battles and do not resort to the "Retry" option for this trophy.

Until No Retreat (B) unlocks, I recommend returning to the title screen if/when a battle's lost rather than Retry. Like Budding Hunter (S), it's an easy one; it unlocked for me in Chapter 2, and it was the 4th trophy I earned in the game.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/F93.jpg Strategist (B)

Performed a multitude of paradigm shifts.

Perform 1000 Paradigm Shifts for this trophy. Paradigm Shifts can be done via the :l1: button while in battles.

Since Paradigm Shifts are - for all intents and purposes - the core of the battle system, all 1000 will come naturally en route to maxing out Noel and Serah for Supreme Being (S). There is little-to-no need to grind for it or worry about it, but because 1000 is a lot of Paradigm Shifts, Strategist (B) didn't unlock until a few hours after I had finished the main story.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/010.jpg Budding Hunter (S)

Defeated an army's worth of enemies.

"Defeated the world's smallest army" would be a better description; 100 enemies are required for this trophy.

Budding Hunter (S) unlocked for me in Episode 1, and it was the 2nd trophy I earned in the game. Just defeat enemies as you progress through the main story and it will come naturally.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/8A5.jpg Supreme Being (S)

Fully developed all abilities.

Raise Noel and Serah to Level 99 in all 6 Roles (Commando, Ravager, Sentinel, Saboteur, Synergist, Medic) in the Crystarium.

As in the first Final Fantasy XIII, you can earn 2x CP with "Rolling in CP" (a Fragment Skill this time, not an Accessory). Rolling in CP can be unlocked via the Chocobo Girl in Serendipity after all Fragments from Bresha Ruins AF005, AF100, and AF300, as well as all Fragments from Yaschas Massif AF010, AF100, AF110, and AF01X have been earned.

Another method to earn more CP is via monster abilities. There are a few monster abilities that can increase CP - One that comes to mind is a Level 99 Green Chocobo for its last ability, "CP Plus." Green Chocobos are also decent healers and can even be used in Chocobo Racing, so it is a monster worth investing into.

Compared to Final Fantasy XIII, Supreme Being (S) shouldn't require a lot of grind time due to the addition of CP awarded from Fragment Missions. Defeating Ochu in Archylte Steppe (one of the monsters required for Big Game Hunter (S) and a Fragment) rewards 30,000 CP. Paradox Endings often reward 10,000+ CP. There are a lot of opportunities to earn a lot of CP, and around the time I finished off the (P), Noel and Sarah both had over 400,000 UNUSED CP at their disposal due to the fact that I had nothing left to allocate it to.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/F3B.jpg Big Game Hunter (S)

Defeated every worthy opponent.

There are four "worthy opponents." They are all located in Archylte Steppe, and they are all associated w/ missions for their respective Fragments:

1. Immortal - Spawns in the southeast section of the map when weather is cloudy.

2. Long Gui - Spawns in the east section of the map when weather is sunny.

3. Ochu - Spawns in the west section of the map when weather is rainy.

4. Yomi - Spawns in the southeast section of the map when weather is thundery.

The missions to defeat these four bosses are the final missions of the area and should become available after you are able to ride Yellow Chocobos (and also note that Yellow Chocobos are required for 100% Map Completion of Archylte Steppe). Use the weather manipulation machine in the chief's hut in order to spawn them.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/4C2.jpg Giant's Fist (G)

Dealt 99,999 damage with a single attack.

As the description indicates, you need to deal 99,999 damage with a single attack. The number 99,999 itself needs to appear on the screen; the total damage from a multiple-hit skill such as Omega Javelin (ie. 25,000 damage x 4 hits) will not count.

Use Noel as the character controlled in battle, and make sure he has 800+ Attack Power (I earned this trophy when he was at 825 Attack Power). A maxed out Noel w/ Odinblade (Fragment Weapon obtained from Hope in exchange for the "Chaos Crystal" Fragment that can be bought from Serendipity) and 3x Power Wrists can easily break 1000+ Attack Power.

You also need to ensure that Noel has learned Smite and Scourge skills from the Crystarium. These latent skills allow him to deal a massive amount of damage in a single hit as a Commando, but the timing is a bit tricky; Noel needs to be attacking the monster (with the command "Attack") at the time when the monster recovers from being Staggered.

Once Noel is in the area of 800-1100 Attack Power and has learned Smite and Scourge, you need to find an enemy with A LOT of HP. A couple candidates recommended are final form of the last boss (refer to Chronosavior (G)) or alternatively, Long Gui in Archylte Steppe. Stagger the enemy until it's at 999%, hit it with Deprotect for good measure to lower its defense, then initiate a series of 5x Attack commands with Noel 2-3 seconds before the enemy recovers from Stagger. If the enemy has Deprotect on it, Noel has enough Attack Power under his belt and also knows Smite and Scourge, and if the timing of his attacks coincide correctly with the moment the enemy recovers from Stagger, you'll be delighted to see a 99,999 damage hit and a Gold Trophy at the end of the battle. If it didn't work, Retry the battle and/or grind more for even higher Attack Power.

It's also possible that you'll obtain this trophy the way I did - on complete accident. :p As I mentioned earlier, Noel had 825 Attack Power and both Smite and Scourge, and I happened to deal 99,999 damage randomly in a battle against Odin Dusk, a boss in Vile Peaks, while I was collecting all the Fragments.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/DB7.jpg Beast Tamer (G)

Befriended a most unfriendly monster.

Befriend Don Tonberry, a rare monster that can be found in Bresha Ruins AF100 a little to the west of the area where Atlas stood in Bresha Ruins AF005. Like other rare monsters, he will appear as a "void" before he is engaged.

Turning on the "Battle Mania" Fragment Skill will increase the odds of rare spawns and hasten his appearance. Battle Mania can be unlocked via the Chocobo Girl in Serendipity after earning the "Paradox Professor" Fragment from City of Academia AF400, which requires 100% Map Completion for all areas in the game.

Additionally, turning on the "Monster Collector" Fragment Skill will increase the odds of befriending monsters. Monster Collector can be unlocked via the Chocobo Girl in Serendipity after all Fragments from Vile Peaks AF010 & AF200 have been earned.

You can feel free to battle Don Tonberry on Easy Difficulty; it will increase the odds of your victory and will not adversely affect the odds of befriending him. If you do not befriend him the first time, wait until he spawns again and continue to battle him over and over until he is recruited; it took me 3 tries without Monster Collector.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/890/B79.jpg Fair Fighter (G)

Defeated a powerful enemy on equal terms.

(This trophy unlocks Moogle's Theme for the XMB.)

Defeat Raspatil on Normal Difficulty - Easy Difficulty will not count! Raspatil is a rare monster that can be found in Oerba Village AF400 around the top of the staircase leading down to the beach. Like other rare monsters, he will appear as a "void" before he is engaged.

Turning on the "Battle Mania" Fragment Skill will increase the odds of rare spawns and hasten his appearance (without Battle Mania, it took me ~30 minutes to get him to appear). Battle Mania can be unlocked via the Chocobo Girl in Serendipity after earning the "Paradox Professor" Fragment from City of Academia AF400, which requires 100% Map Completion for all areas in the game.

If Noel and Serah are maxed out at Level 99 in all 6 Roles and have good equipment, Raspatil is not particularly difficult at all, but he has a massive amount of HP. Expect the battle to take at least 5 minutes or so, and note that Raspatil's attacks deal Wound Damage (Max HP down) moreso than a lot of other enemies and bosses; come prepared with at least a dozen or so Wound Potions in order to recover from it.

Set battles to Easy Difficulty for a better chance to earn 5 Stars. If you aren't confident in your performance, hit :start: to Pause before the end of the battle and Retry it. You can also return later and attempt the boss battle a second (or third, or fourth) time. Time Reversal is not required.

The reserves are such a tease, I can't wait to see the finished product ~

Good luck with your guide.

Have you by chance considered placing the corresponding trophy icon with each trophy? That way, it's easier for most people to recognize what trophies they already have. It's just an idea.

When you say that do you mean doing it like this [(G) Trophy Name] instead of [Trophy name (G)] ? The wording in your question confuses me.

Will be harder to get trophies when I buy this game on Feb 3 or Jan 31? Like I had difficult time getting treasure hunter trophy for FF13.Will I need to beat the game before buying this one?

Compared to XIII the game is much easier as Aeli-chan has posted numerous times. To understand the story better you might want to complete XIII first (assuming you haven't).

I mean that, each trophy you earn has an icon, a picture. It's left of your small bronze/silver/gold/platinum trophy icon when you're looking in your trophy list of Final Fantasy XIII-2 (or any game for that matter) on the Playstation 3. The trophy for clearing episode one for example has a picture of a blue clock-like thing with a clear number '1' in the middle.

Perhaps these pictures are somewhere on the internet, it could be useful for some people since it's unlikely the story-driven trophies are the only trophies you'll get while simply playing the main quest and they might get confused.

It's just a suggestion of course.

Okay then. Once again, good luck with your guide. I'm confident it'll be good.

Thanks Stars (and Setsuna and Timbo)! I appreciate everyone's patience and support while I get it all loaded. As fellow guide writers know, all the formatting etc. takes time, but I'll have the core of it all up before the end of the day and will work on minor revisions throughout the rest of the week to make sure it's perfect.

dejavu i remember you doing the FF13 guide. so its a 3 out of 10. I'm disappointed. lol I was hoping for a Demon's soul or dark soul level of trophy difficulty

Not even close to Demon/Dark Souls level haha. Next to Last Rebellion, I consider Final Fantasy XIII-2 the second easiest J-RPG (P) on PS3. It's about on par with Tales of Xillia in terms of both difficulty and time investment.

Just because it takes less time, and might be easier (thanks to that nifty, and yet utterly annoying "easy" mode) doesn't mean that the game will not be enjoyable. A lot of the time spent for the XIII Platinum was mindless grinding on the same monster for hours on end.

I would rather be running content, than killing the same turtle for hours hoping for ingots, or dark matter.

Great guide, really looking forward to reading it more closely when I get the game and am finished with the main story. Glad to see there are no missable trophies. I actually don't mind this one being a 3/10 in difficulty but I do hope that whenever Final Fantasy Versus XIII reaches our shores, it will at least be a 7 or 8.

You have my respect. That was a very good job.

Coming from you, that means a lot to me, since we both played through the import version. :) Thanks Cetra, and leokiko, SuperMegaShark and pstevo123 too!

Defragmented (G) aside, which I am still compiling my notes on, the core of the guide is all loaded, and as I mentioned earlier I will be fine-tuning and making revisions over the next few days before I submit it to the main site. Stay tuned for more updates.
