Introduction

Ferrari Race Experience is basically a re-release of Ferrari Challenge, one of the first games to be patched with trophies back in the day. A solid racer, the game contains all of your favourite Ferraris, going back through the car maker’s history. If you like a decent racer and/or are a Ferrari fan, you could do worse than pick up this on PSN. At 15 quid, its also a cheap platinum.

It can take a fair amount of time to complete this game. So I’d advise you to follow the Walkthrough, as I feel it is the quickest route to the end.

It is possible that you may be able to take advantage of a beneficial glitch to shave time off of your platinum. See this thread for more information.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Game Setup.

Before starting you should head to the Options Menu to set the difficulty. There are five different levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Expert, Legend or Dynamic. You should set it to either Beginner or Intermediate to begin with. There are no difficulty based trophies, so you are free to make it as easy as you like. If you find it too easy, you can always bump up the difficulty later. Bear in mind though that you will want to win nearly every race you enter if you want to take the quickest route to the Platinum.

Avoid Dynamic difficulty settings, as it will continually change up the difficulty to challenge you. Unless you can constantly up your own game, you will eventually get caught out. Doing it manually will give you more control over your fate.

IMPORTANT: Remember that you have to stack up 100 race wins over the course of play to unlock that trophy. You should be attempting to win every single race you enter, as you do not want to have a whole heap of wins left to get after you have finished everything else. Alter the game settings accordingly.

Lastly, turn off the damage. You will have enough to deal with, without having to be too dainty with your motor. Contact with opposition cars can often be used to your advantage, especially in Arcade Mode.

Step 2: The Tutorial.

Your first stop once you are ready to race should be the Tutorial in Single Player Mode. My advice is to stay in here until you unlock both The Graduate and Hot Shot. This will set you up well to go racing properly. For tips on getting through with high enough stats, see the guide below.

Step 3: Career Mode.

The Career Mode is split into three different sections: GT Race, Road GT, & Classics. Each category will feature a number of cars, but you will only have to complete each one with one of the cars featured. So don’t get worried when you see the low completion stats on the opening menu.

The three cars I choose for each category were the 360 GT for GT Race, the 458 Italia for the Road GT and the 512 S for the Classics. The first two are personal preference, but the 512 S is a must pick. You get as much time getting used to it as you can, as you will need to use it later for the Time Trials.

Aim to win every race in every race weekend, and try to qualify in pole position each time. If you do that for all three, you will unlock all the trophies for this part of the game.

Step 4: Time Trial Mode.

You will not be able to complete this mode until you unlock all of the tracks listed. But if you have followed the Road Map up to here, this should already be done.

The Time Trials are undoubtedly the hardest part of this game. Using a single car, you will have to beat the Track Record for all 16 of the featured tracks. The one car that works best for this is the 512 S, as there are only a handful of tracks where it cannot beat the time easily. Thankfully, there are a few ways you can stack the deck in your favour on this one, see Time Trial Lap King for more details.

Step 5: Arcade Mode.

The Arcade unlocks as you progress through it. You have to start with Beginner, and work your way up from there. As with the Time Trials, you have to complete them all in a single vehicle. And again, I’d recommend the 512 S, as you should be very comfortable with it by now. The time allowed for each race is generous enough. Just make sure to get off to a quick start.

Step 6: The Trofeo Events.

The bulk of the bronze trophies are basically cups for winning the mini one-make events for 20 of the featured cars. Each event has three races, each with five laps to complete. You will start at the back for race one, but will keep your finishing position for the next race. Aim to win the first race, and then you should have no problem leading from the front for the next two.

My advice is to start at the top of the trophy list, and work your way down. You should have a large wedge of cash available, so just buy each vehicle as you make your way through the events.

Step 7: Clean Up.

By now, you should only have three trophies left to do at most. If the game plays out the same as the original Ferrari Challenge did, you should already have racked up the 100 wins and 2000 miles by now. If not, you shouldn’t be too far away from each. Head to your favourite track and knock out a few wins. It will just be a matter of staying at it until the trophy/trophies unlock.

Last is the Collector trophy. You will not have accumulated enough cash to buy one of every vehicle for your garage. To get cash quickly, go to Quick Race. Set it to a single lap race around Autodroma Italia, and use a fast car: 512 S, 512 M, F50 GT, etc. Win or get on the podium and you can rack up over Cr. 10,000 per race.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/22.jpg The Graduate (B)

Complete Tutorial mode for the first time.

The Tutorial is the first option found in the Single Player section. Coached by Tiff Needell of Top Gear and Fifth Gear fame, you will be given a 458 Italia to drive around Ferrari’s own Fiorano test track. The tutorial will only last for two laps, so should not take too long. Once you finish up for the first time, you will receive the trophy.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/23.jpg Hot Shot (S)

Achieve 75% accuracy or above in all categories in Tutorial mode.

During your Tutorial drive, the game will track your driving accuracy and rank you at the end. The score will be broken down into four sections: Braking, Race Line Accuracy, Apex Accuracy and Throttle Control. You will have to achieve over 75% for each one. Thankfully, you are allowed to turn on and off any assists you want. So feel free to mess around with the settings if you are having any trouble.

Braking: This is all about timing. Turn the racing line indicator on and use it as a baseline. The idea is to brake when the racing line indicator turns red. Make sure to brake in one smooth motion rather than pumping the brake multiple times. With practice, this percentage can be quickly improved.

Race Line Accuracy: Keep the racing line indicator on. This is the ideal line, the fastest and most economical way to get around the track. Try to follow it as closely as possible, and try not to run too wide. The race line is colour coded: Red obviously means break, and Green means accelerate. When the line is Yellow, do neither. Let the car run under its own momentum.

Apex Accuracy: When driving around a corner, you will move from wide to close to wide: first, wide at the entry to the corner, second, close midway through the corner, and lastly, wide as you exit the corner. The apex is an imaginary point halfway around a corner where you come closest to the inside of the corner. After passing it, you are said to be exiting the corner. In practice, follow the racing line to find all the apexes naturally. When on the inside of the corner, try to brush the tire off the inside kerbing.

Throttle Control: Like in reality, the throttle can not generally be treated as a power on/off switch. The key to throttle control is to be gradual but firm, feeling for the right moment to put the power down. With practice, a few of the corners can be taken without braking at all.

The trickiest of the categories to fulfill will be Throttle Control and Race Line Accuracy. The braking is fairly easy, and the Apex Accuracy will come with Race Line Accuracy anyway. So aim to get the Race Line and Throttle Response down pat, and work from there.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/24.jpg Italian Lap King (B)

Beat the Lap Record on all Italian circuits in Time Trial mode.

There are four Italian tracks in the game:

- Autodroma Italia

- Mugello

- San Marino

- Autodroma Roma

Mugello is the only one I found much of a challenge to beat, the rest are pretty easy and can be beaten on the first lap.

For more info on each specific track, see Time Trial Lap King.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/25.jpg Euro Lap King (B)

Beat the Lap Record on all European circuits in Time Trial mode.

There are six European tracks in the game:

- GB Raceway

- Spa

- Rhine Speedway

- Le Castellet

- Eifel

- Riviera

The times for GB Raceway and Rhine Raceway are pretty tight, and don’t allow for much wiggle room. For each of these you will probably have to rack up the laps, honing your line and shaving off tenths of seconds here and there. Thankfully, the rest are pretty easy and can generally be beaten on the first lap.

For more info on each specific track, see Time Trial Lap King.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/26.jpg North American Lap King (B)

Beat the Lap Record on all North American circuits in Time Trial mode.

Lastly, there are six American tracks in the game:

- Homestead

- Infineon

- Virginia Raceway

- Redwood Park

- Alpine Raceway

- California

The hardest time you’ll have to beat in the whole game is that 1.36 for Infineon, and Virginia Raceway is no picnic either. For each of these you will probably have to rack up the laps, honing your line and shaving off tenths of seconds here and there. The rest are pretty easy in comparison.

For more info on each specific track, see Time Trial Lap King.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/32.jpg Time Trial Lap King (S)

Beat the Lap Record on every circuit in Time Trial mode.

The Time Trials are by far the hardest part of this game to complete. While each track may be easy enough to beat with a specific car, the problem is that to get the trophy you have to beat them all with the SAME car.

I used the 512 S, as I thought it was the best all rounder. All the times and strategies below are based on using that car. But apparently, the Time Trials are much easier if you use the 330 P4. (Thanks to everlytone for this tip). Go with the 330 first, and see how you get on. In case you have any problems though, I'll leave my method here as well.

I’d recommend buying and using whichever car you choose in Career Mode before doing the Time Trials, so that you can familiarize yourself with how the car handles.

Note: the three different handling setups – Assisted, Arcade and Simulation – all have different potential for fast lap times. Simulation can provide the fastest lap time, but will make consistent laps very hard to manage. Assisted will weld you to the track, and make it easy to stay on the racing line. But it will also break excessively, slowing you down more than is necessary. Stick to Arcade for the most part. If you find you are getting it hard to keep the car on the track, bump up the ABS and TCS settings.

The bulk of the tracks will actually be easy enough, with only a half dozen or so of them causing problems. Below is a basic rundown of what to look out for:

Autodroma Italia

Target Time: 1.54.00

My Time: 1.48.64

This is an easy start. I managed to clock this time on the very first lap, so it shouldn’t be much of an obstacle.

Mugello

Target Time: 1.52.00

My Time: 1.51.44

With its long sweeping corners, Mugello is all about being smooth with the braking and sticking to the racing line. Don’t break late. Instead break in time and then try to get on the power early out of the corners. Avoid the kerbs, as they will throw the car off balance and prevent you from putting the power down early enough.

San Marino

Target Time: 1.39.00

My Time: 1.35.42

This is another easy enough one. Again, I managed to clock this time on the very first lap, so it shouldn’t be much of an obstacle. Just keep the speed up, and take the corners nice and smooth.

Autodroma Roma

Target Time: 1.41.00

My Time: 1.37.01

This is another easy enough one. Again, I managed to clock this time on the very first lap, so it shouldn’t be much of an obstacle. Just keep the speed up, and take the corners nice and smooth.

GB Midlands Raceway

Target Time: 1.52.00

My Time: 1.51.79

GB Midlands (Silverstone) is a difficult enough circuit. Again the key is to be smooth with the braking and sticking to the racing line. Don’t break late. Instead break in time and then try to get on the power early out of the corners. The idea is to preserve as much speed as possible. Time can be made up in the more technical corners, like Maggots and Beckets (the switchbacks at the start). As with before, try to avoid the kerbs; they will flip the car off balance and prevent you from putting the power down early enough. You need to keep all four wheels on the tarmac. Also, make sure not to run too wide on the last section of corners, as it will suck up nearly half a second.

Spa

Target Time: 2.32.00

My Time: 2.20.66

Spa is a long track, but the clocked time is generous enough. The key to a fast lap time is to go flat out on the main straight at the start and do the same through the sweeping curves along the back side of the course. Little or no braking is needed for the bulk of these corners.

Rhine Speedway

Target Time: 1.44.00

My Time: 1.43.48

Rhine Speedway (Hockenheim) is one of the trickier tracks to make time on. Like Mugello, it’s all about being smooth with the braking and sticking to the racing line. Don’t break late. Instead break in time and then try to get on the power early out of the corners. Avoid the kerbs, as they will throw the car off balance and prevent you from putting the power down early enough. It’s important that you do not run wide on the last two sections of corners. Keep the car nosed in and control it on the throttle. For this track, tidy = fast.

Le Castellet

Target Time: 1.36.00

My Time: 1.30.55

Le Castellet (Paul Ricard) is a straight forward enough track. The only thing to look out for is the tendency for the last 4 or 5 corners to tighten and throw you outwards. Keep the car on the racing line, and there shouldn’t be a problem.

Homestead

Target Time: 1.22.00

My Time: 1.18.49

This track is wide open, high speed cornering. Speed is king here. Keep it tidy, and cut across the chicanes to pick up some extra time. This should be an easy time to beat.

Infineon

Target Time: 1.37.00

My Time: 1.36.74

Infineon. You’ll hate that name by the time you are done with this one. As with most of the others, be smooth, don’t break too late and try to keep your speed up. But even doing that, you may find your first couple of attempts 4 or 5 seconds out. That’s a lot of time, so you may want to cut a few corners. There are two you can try: Turn 3 to Turn 4 and the chicane at Turn 9.

For Turn 3 to Turn 4, the idea is to drive straight up the hill towards Turn 4, bypassing Turn 3. If you aim for the centre panel of the gantry over the track, you should end up back on the track. Just watch out for the wall.

For the Chicane at Turn 9, the idea is to take a straighter line. You can’t take too much off, or you will get a penalty. Aim to go across the ground directly behind the corner kerbing on each side of the chicane.

I found going cross country at Turn 3 hard to pull off consistently, so I concentrated on getting the Chicane perfect. That’s where I managed to pick up the extra tie I needed. If needed, you can also try to cut a little off the final hairpin.

Regardless of how you go about it, this one will take time. Try out different lines, and see where you can make up any time. With luck, that one good run will come together.

Virginia Raceway

Target Time: 1.27.00

My Time: 1.26.61

This one tested me nearly as much as Infineon did. The main problem I found was carrying enough speed through the switchbacks on the back side of the course. Slight touches off the kerbs would scupper a whole lap. So my advice would be to take these corners as wide as you can while still staying on the racing line. Keep it tidy for the rest of the lap and you should be able to squeak one in under the wire. Be prepared to spend a little time on this one.

Redwood Park

Target Time: 1.41.00

My Time: 1.38.22

Now thankfully, we get back to the easy tracks. Keep the speed up, and stay on the racing line and this shouldn’t be a problem. Make sure to brake in plenty of time for the hairpin. And lastly, you should be able to take the final chicane at speed.

Alpine Raceway

Target Time: 1.44.00

My Time: 1.33.97

This is another first lap clearance. You have loads of time for this one. So just keep the car on the track, and this one shouldn’t be a problem.

California

Target Time: 1.35.00

My Time: 1.31.24

This one is easy enough once you cut the corners available. There are two chicanes in the centre section of the lap that can be taken at speed. And the area around the last two corners is paved, so feel free to take a shorter line here (within reason obviously).

Eifel

Target Time: 2.08.00

My Time: 2.04.80

This is another first lap clearance. You have loads of time for this one. So just keep the car on the track, and this one shouldn’t be a problem.

Riviera

Target Time: 2.08.00

My Time: 2.04.80

The last track is the almost unrecognisable Monaco GP track. This is another first lap clearance. You have loads of time for this one. So just keep the car on the track, and this one shouldn’t be a problem.

Complete Expert difficulty in Arcade mode.

To unlock the Expert level in Arcade Mode, you will first have to beat the Beginner and Intermediate events. They both consist of 4 races, each with a 5 minute timer. The idea is to pass all 15 opposition cars with in the time limit.

In Expert difficulty, you are given double the time: 10 minutes. This means you get between 5 and 8 laps to get to first place. The key is to get off to a good start. Aim to pass the first ten cars inside the first lap, if not the first few corners. The leading 3 or 4 cars will break away from the field. The longer you take to hunt them down, the further out they will get.

Keep the car on the track, and keep the speed up, and you should have plenty of time to rein them in. Watch out for the pile ups, as for some reason the AI goes a little “Kamikaze” in Arcade Mode.

Note: Like the Time Trials, you have to use the same car through all four levels of Arcade Mode. I recommend using the 512 S again, but the choice is up to you.

Also: Each section has to be done in one sitting. You cannot save your progress mid event. If you feel you will not be able to win your current race, pause and hit retry. This way you can make sure you win every race.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/38.jpg Arcade Gold (G)

Achieve a gold trophy in every Arcade Mode Difficulty.

You should be trying to win every race you enter anyway, so this one should come easily enough. The time given is generally plenty to make your way to the front. If you feel you are not going to make it, pause and hit restart race. It will not affect your score, so feel free to do it as many times as you need to. It shouldn’t be a problem though, as the races are all easy enough.

Beginner: Autodroma Italia, Mugello, Homestead and California.

Intermediate: San Marino, GB Raceway, Redwood Park and Le Castellet.

Expert: Alpine Raceway, Infineon, Virginia Raceway and Spa.

Legend: Autodroma Italia, Alpine Raceway, Infineon and Rhine Speedway.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/27.jpg Numero Uno (B)

Achieve a pole position in a GT Race Series

Each race weekend consists of two races and a qualifying session. You will have the option to skip qualifying, but you shouldn’t. It is relatively easy to qualify on pole, and it will give you a huge advantage over the course of the race weekend. My method was to do the first lap as fast as I could, and then retire. The time would still count, and was generally good enough to put me on pole.

The very first time you do this in GT Race, this trophy will unlock.

See GT Race Series Star for more information.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/28.jpg Prancing Horse (B)

Complete a GT Race Series.

You will get this trophy once you complete the GT Race Series for the first time, regardless of how well you do. But do not try specifically for this trophy. Go for the GT Race Series Star trophy, and this one will come along the way.

See GT Race Series Star for more information.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/29.jpg First GT Race Series Win (B)

Win your first race in a GT Race Series.

There are 7 race weekends in the GT Race Series, so there are 14 races there to be won. Winning one won’t be a problem. As with Prancing Horse, do not try specifically for this trophy. Go for the GT Race Series Star trophy, and this one will come along the way.

See GT Race Series Star for more information.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/30.jpg GT Race Series Star (G)

Complete a GT Race Series with maximum points.

In order to get this trophy, you have to win every one of the 14 races in the GT Race Series. This probably sounds a lot more trouble than it actually is. First off pick any of the following 10 cars and buy it:

- F50 GT

- 348 Challenge

- 360 GT

- F430 Challenge

- FXX

- 599XX

- 575 GTC

- F430 GTC

- F333 SP

- F355 Challenge

It doesn’t matter which you pick, so go with your gut. I went with the 360 GT.

Each Series is made up of 7 separate race weekends. Each weekend consists of a 2 lap qualifying session followed by two 5 lap races. Since the idea is to win every single race, you should make it as easy on yourself as you can. ALWAYS qualify. Set a single lap time and then retire from the qualifying session. Your time will count, and will more often than not put you on pole. From here it is just a matter of winning the two races. Your position will carry from Race 1 to Race 2, so when you win the first race, you will be on pole again for the second.

Repeat for each of the seven weekends, and you should get this trophy as well as Numero Uno, Prancing Horse and First GT Race Series Win.

NOTE: You cannot retry a race like you can in Arcade Mode. So if you are not going to be able to win a race, pause the game and quit out via the PS button. When you go back into the game, your progress will be reset to the start of the race.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/31.jpg Double Whammy (B)

Achieve 2 podium finished in a Road GT Series.

You will get this trophy once you win the first two races in the Road GT Series for the first time. You only need to podium, but you will be gunning for the wins anyway. Do not try specifically for this trophy. Go for the Road GT Series Star trophy, and this one will come along the way.

See Road GT Series Star for more information.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/32.jpg Road GT Racer (S)

Win a race at every Road GT Series circuit.

You will get this trophy in the first race of the last weekend, while working your way toward the Road GT Series Star trophy. Do not worry about this trophy, just go for the gold trophy and you can’t miss this one.

Just to note, the seven tracks involved are:

- Autodroma Roma

- Le Castellet

- California

- Riviera

- Mugello

- San Marino

- Virginia Raceway

See Road GT Series Star for more information.

- 575M Maranello

- California

- F40

- 430 Scuderia

- 348 TB

- 599 GTB Fiorano

- 550 Maranello

- Enzo Ferrari

- F430 Spider

- GTO

- 512 M

- 330 P4

- 512 S

- 250 GTO

- 365 GTS4

- 250 Testa Rossa

- 250 LM

I recommend you pick the 512 S, as you will need a little practice with it for later.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/39.jpg First Across The Line (B)

Place first at every circuit in the game.

If you follow the Road Map and enter the Career Mode first, you will get this trophy after you win the first race of the fourth Classics race weekend at Alpine Raceway. That is assuming that you have won all the previous races of course.

Don’t worry about this one, you can’t miss it.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/40.jpg New Wheels (B)

Buy your first car.

When you first start the game, you will have Cr. 25,000 burning a whole in your pocket. To buy your first car, you should head to the Showroom. If you are following the Road Map, your first car should be in the Race GT class. The best value for money I saw was the 360GT, but any car in that class will do nicely. Hand over the cash and the trophy should pop.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/41.jpg 100 Wins (B)

Win 100 races.

From the very start, you should be trying to make sure to win nearly every race you enter. This is not actually too hard to pull off, so you should be quickly racking up those wins. There will be more than enough races for you to win the 100 needed. So just play your way towards the Platinum, and this should pop along the way.

To give you some idea of your progress, go to Achievements > Miscellaneous > Fourth Column of Cards.

These are the Race Win Challenge Cards. You should be able to see once you pass 25, 50, 75 and 100 wins.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/42.jpg 2000 On The Clock (S)

Race a total of 2000 miles.

If this game holds to the same pattern as the original Ferrari Challenge, then this one should pop shortly before you win the last few Trofeo Trophies, (if you leave them until last that is). So don’t worry about it. It will come.

To give you some idea of your progress, go to Achievements > Miscellaneous > Fifth Column of Cards.

These are the Distance Challenge Cards. You should be able to see once you pass 250, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 miles.

http://www.playstationtrophies.org/images/trophies/692/43.jpg The Collector (S)

Buy every car available in the game.

You need to buy all 34 cars and have them in your garage together at the same time.

Through the course of normal play, I’m assuming that you will have accumulated enough cash to buy one of every vehicle for your garage. If however you find that you are short on funds, head into the Beginner races in Arcade Mode. Because you start at the back and have to overtake the field, your will rack up over Cr. 11,000 per race. Below is a list of all 34 cars:

365 GTS4 ----------- Cr. 3,500

348 TB -------------- Cr. 5,000

F512 M -------------- Cr. 6,000

550 Maranello ------- Cr. 7,500

GTO ----------------- Cr. 8,500

575M Maranello ----- Cr. 8,750

348 Challenge ------ Cr. 10,000

360 Modena --------- Cr. 12,500

F355 Berlinetta ----- Cr. 15,000

250 Testa Rossa ---- Cr. 15,000

F355 Challenge ----- Cr. 15,000

250 GTO ------------ Cr. 17,500

250 LM -------------- Cr. 20,000

F430 Spider --------- Cr. 21,000

360 GT -------------- Cr. 22,000

365 GTB4 Comp. --- Cr. 22,500

512 S --------------- Cr. 25,000

F430 Challenge ----- Cr. 25,000

512 M --------------- Cr. 27,500

F40 ------------------ Cr. 27,500

599 GTB Fiorano ---- Cr. 28,000

Ferrari California ---- Cr. 30,000

612 Sessanta ------- Cr. 30,000

F430 GTC ----------- Cr. 31,250

430 Scuderia ------- Cr. 35,000

575 GTC ------------ Cr. 35,000

458 Italia ----------- Cr. 50,000

F50 ----------------- Cr. 60,000

Enzo Ferrari -------- Cr. 65,000

330 P4 ------------- Cr. 90,000

F333 SP ------------ Cr. 125,000

F50 GT ------------- Cr. 140,000

599XX ------------- Cr. 160,000

FXX ---------------- Cr. 200,000

Total Cars: 34

Total Cost: Cr. 1,394,000

I found that this was the last trophy to get, as after finishing all the others, you will still need to earn another Cr.300,000 to Cr.500,000. To earn the cash quickly, go to Quick Race and use the following settings:

Car: 512 M

Track: Autodroma Italia

Laps: 1

Grid: Full

You should easily be able to Win or Podium the race, depending on how well you take the first corner. That will net you between 9000 and 11000 credits about every two minutes. Just keep hitting Retry to keep racking up the cash. Thanks to SwT for the tip.
