Brief Rundown:

The Far Cry 2 list is a extremely time consuming list. You're looking at between 30-40 hours for getting all the single player trophies and probably another 150+ hours getting the online (non-boosting). The offline trophies will have you searching and milking up every little bit of the world whereas the multiplayer is more a matter of just playing and earning points, nothing too intense, but time consuming.

Because in Far Cry 2, once you get to a certain point, you can't go back, you must be make sure you've dealt with business before you've gone from the north to the south. There is a point of no return so instead of just being able to go through the story and going back at the end, that's not possible. Just stick with our suggested route and you'll be ok.

Well known & Documented Glitches

Because the game is a sandbox game glitches are apparent. Beware the two major glitches and you'll be ok.

1. Cell Tower Missions - Don't let the target escape. Save before every cell tower mission just in case they do, because you miss them once, you miss them forever because it registers you doing the mission, although you don't get paid.

2. The Save Glitch - Not sure how widespread this is, but the 360 version had a bug where after a certain point, you could get a save glitch that corrupts your file. Our advice is to steer clear of saving after missions with the pop up and use save houses instead. Doing that means you should be ok.

3. Safehouse Glitch - I've killed everyone yet the safehouse is still locked? Sometimes this happens for some unknown reason; ride away and then ride back to let them spawn and take them out again. This is apparent in the South mostly.

4. The "I can't open the diamond briefcase" glitch - I noticed this happen when the character gets out the passenger door on a vehicle. Don't ask us why, it just does. Try and get on a turret or back in a car and exit the correct side for the hand icon to appear when you approach the briefcase.

Suggested Route:

The North

1. Complete the tutorial

2. Unlock all the safe houses

3. Complete the convoy missions at the arms dealer (4 of these)

4. Complete the Cell Tower missions (6 of these)

5. Collect all the diamonds (112)

6. Save all the buddies that aren't story related (3)

7. Start the story missions, changing sides after one mission, subverting all and making sure you do the Underground missions (3 of them) when they pop up

In between

1. Collect the 4 diamonds in the desert between the north and south.

The South

1. Complete the tutorial

2. Unlock all the safehouses

3. Complete the convoy missions at the arms dealer (4 of these)

4. Complete the Cell Tower missions (6 of these)

5. Collect all the diamonds (105)

6. Save all the buddies that aren't story related (1)

7. Start the story missions, changing sides after one mission, subverting all and making sure you do the Underground missions (4 of them) when they pop up.

Doing that method should net you all the trophies so long as you pay attention to the odd miscellaneous buddy one.

Tip: It is recommended that you save often. Saving at approximately every 10% of game completion will help in the event you miss a trophy and need to go back. Remember once you leave certain areas you cannot return.

Aquire all conflict diamonds in the game available through payment or exploration

There are 1000 diamonds in all, which are earned in three scenarios:

1. Main missions. Can't mess these up.

2. Cell tower missions - 6 in the north, 6 in the south. Make sure you eliminate your target on the first attempt. Save before attempting.

3. Through exploration ... there are in fact 221 diamond locations, which can be found on the following maps. There are nine maps for the north and nine for the south and one for in between when you cross from the north to the south. On said maps are glider locations (most if not all), safehouses and jackal tape locations. The north and the south are numbered 1-9 for their quadrants, with top left being 1, middle right being 6 and bottom right being 9.

Mission Trophies

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/37/013.jpgBagman (B)

Deliver stamped travel documents to the Underground in exchange for medicine

You'll get this trophy once you hand over the first set of documents in one of the Underground missions. They are triggered through natural progression.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/37/008.jpgMessenger (B)

Complete all the available Underground side-quests in both the North and the South

There are 7 Underground missions (3 in the north and 4 in the south) and they involve meeting with the priest and delivering documents to a safehouse in exchange for medications. The actual triggering of them usually comes through game progression, so doing main missions, side missions and what not should trigger them.

The trophy may unlock early as it has done with a lot of people. If that happens, great, you don't need to continue doing them.

Unlock new weapons by hitting a Convoy

See "... and demand"

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/37/023.jpg...and demand. (B)

Unlock all weapons by hitting every Convoy

There are 8 convoy missions to do after you've done the tutorial; 4 in the north and 4 in the south. We recommend doing them as soon as you hit each area as the weapons they unlock become supremely helpful.

The best way of doing them is taking a rocket launcher, working out their route (they go in circles till you make contact) and then hitting the truck with the rocket launcher straight away whilst mopping up the troops after.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/37/014.jpgLineman (B)

Complete a Mission intercepted from a cellular tower signal

Dotted around the map, after the tutorial will be Cell Tower missions that require you to take down a target in exchange for diamonds. Complete your first to unlock this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/37/030.jpgUtility Man (S)

Complete all Missions intercepted from cellular tower signals

In order to net this trophy, all 12 Cell Tower missions must be completed; 6 in the north and 6 in the south. Make sure you don't mess up and miss your target as they may end up escaping and you'll miss your chance to get all the diamonds.

How you do it is up to you; stealth, sniper, rocket launcher, carnage. Its up to you. The tricky ones are the peace zones ones; getting in is ok and killing him but escaping can be messy.

Switch sides in Bowa-Seko - the Southern Territory

After doing a mission for a faction in the North (whether APR or UFLL), just simply go and see the opposition faction leader for the next mission.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/37/028.jpgRuthless (B)

Subvert all the main faction missions in Leboa-Sako - the Northern Territory

See "Cold Blooded"

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/37/029.jpgCold Blooded (B)

Subvert all the main faction missions in Bowa-Seko - the Southern Territory

Most main missions will offer you the chance to subvert which not only makes the mission a bit more long winded, but it gives you safehouse rewards that can prove invaluable at a later stage.

After taking the mission, you'll get a call from a buddy. From this point, follow the blue marker objectives. Check whether you complete it properly in your stats. There are 6 in the north and 6 in the south to complete for this trophy.

*NOTE* Some missions may not even have a subvert option or they may subvert after you've done part of the first objective. Just make sure you have a buddy or two alive, otherwise this trophy is a no go.

Buddy & Misc Trophies

Save a Buddy from captivity

You'll get this throughout the story, as there are story related buddies to rescue.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/37/004.jpg The best laid plans(B)

Work with a Buddy to subvert a mission offered by a faction

Simply subvert a mission with a buddy to net this trophy. This requires going to the blue objective and NOT the red objective.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/37/016.jpg Lent a hand(B)

Complete a Buddy side quest

After you finish the tutorial, head on over to Mike's Bar and speak to one of your new buddies and accept their mission. Simply complete this mission for this trophy.

Completing the buddy side missions from there on out don't actually net you anything; no diamonds, no safehouse rewards ... they just add to the side mission stat. Do them if you like, but they aren't required for anything else trophy or game reward related.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/37/017.jpg Out of the frying pan...(B)

Get rescued by a Buddy

Once you have a buddy set to "rescue ready", once you lose all your health, they will come and rescue you. Trophy pops then.

To get a buddy rescue ready, simply make sure you have a buddy for starters and when you reach your safehouse and they offer help, press triangle to accept it.

Purchase the manuals and acquire the bandolier for one weapon

The best place to spend your diamonds this ... on your arsenal. This requires you to purchase one from every column for the same weapon. So buy the weapon, the accuracy upgrade, the reliability upgrade and its ammo upgrade.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/37/020.jpg Weapons Expert(B)

Purchase the manuals and acquire the bandoliers for every weapon

There are 28 weapons in all that all need purchasing, along with their respective ammo, accuracy and reliability upgrades. Do lots of missions, the Cell Tower missions and get the vast majority of scattered diamond briefcases and you can net this trophy.

*NOTE* - There is no point in purchasing the vehicle repair upgrades as they do NOT count towards this trophy. Weapons only.

Save a Buddy from a mortal wound

When a buddy goes down, whether it be subverting or rescuing you, you'll have the chance to save him. Run over to them, indicated by the blue smoke and you get the chance to either heal them with one of your syrettes or put them out of their misery. Use a syrette to heal them for this trophy. Make sure you use syrettes first, otherwise it's the waste of a good buddy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/37/027.jpg The third faction(B)

Rescue all the Buddies from their respective predicaments

There are 11 buddies to rescue in all. Most are tied to the story locations, but some aren't. Here's the breakdown ... their locations can be found on the maps above in the "Wages of Conflict" trophy above. I'll put the quadrants down so you know where they are.

North

Buddy 1 - Story Related

Buddy 2 - Story Related - either Lumber, Cock Fights or Slaughterhouse - NQ5

Buddy 3 - Mission 8 - UFLL Main Mission

Buddy 4 - Lumber/Cock Fights/Slaughterhouse - NQ5

Buddy 5 - Lumber/Cock Fights/Slaughterhouse - NQ5

Buddy 6 - Crashed Plane - NQ2

South

Buddy 7 - Story Related

Buddy 8 - Story Related

Buddy 9 - Story Related

Buddy 10 - In the Bowaseko Brewing Co area (SQ8)

Buddy 11 - Story Related or if you get impatient, in Sediko (SQ2)

Comfort a Buddy and ease his passin

When a buddy goes down, whether it be subverting or rescuing you, you'll have the chance to save him. Run over to them, indicated by the blue smoke and you get the chance to either heal them with one of your syrettes or put them out of their misery. This time, put them out of their misery by switching to the gun and hitting R2. Make sure to switch first because it automatically starts with the syrette. If you have no syrettes, you have no other choice but to kill him. Poor bugger.

Add the things you need, working your way though until you get all check boxes checked. If you see any under "Map" that are blank and say something isn't clear, it means you've put that thing in a place it can't be, ie spawn point. Once all boxes are checked, Save your map and the trophy is yours.

Download and rate 25 usermaps

From the Main Menu go to "Map Community" then "Download New Maps". Download 25 different maps. Once done, go back to the Main Menu and to "Multiplayer" then "Player Match" then "Create Match" then highlight "Map Cycle" and hit X. Add the first 15 of the 25 maps you downloaded into the cycle by highlighting them and pressing X (you can only add up to 15 at a time). Set "Private Slot" to the same number as "Maximum Players" is set at. Then "Launch Match". Select "Force Launch" when available or "Ready". Once the map loads, check it out a little, then hit Start and go to "Cancel Match".

On the Summary screen, notice it says to hit Triangle to rate. So hit Triangle and give your rating. Once the Lobby comes back up you'll be on the next map in line. Repeat. Took me about an hour, maybe an hour and a half.

  • 3 weeks later...

There's some mistakes in that guide... first of all the original poster copy-pasted the north's instructions, but forgot to rename it to 'The South'. There's no tutorial there too.

The maps had couple of frustrating mistakes... (and yeah NQ8 is missing). NQ1 hang glider arrow should be pointing to NW cliff not the west one. SQ7 hang glider arrow should be pointing around the cliff not straight trough and worst of all SQ2 Dogon Village diamond had nothing to do with the hang glider (I was lucky, I saved during a mission, so I could mess around with the glider for 40 minutes only to find the diamond in a hut nearby. If I hadn't saved I would have had to come all the way up to Dogon village only to crash the glider into a wall, searching for a non-existent diamond:P)

Here's my advice to diamond-hunters: Buy a repair upgrade to your car and assault truck. They are by far the most popular vehicles in the game and the upgrade enables you to pass through guards post without fighting, saving you precious time. Also, there is no point in getting the diamonds in towns before or after missions, but DURING them (otherwise you have to fight twice pointlessly). Plan accordingly.

The safe houses in Heart of Darkness do not count towards the Orienteer trophy.

The bugs I encountered:

-Save data error: It happened twice. It seems to happen when the game has a slowdown. It is a good idea to save after events actually, but don't do it after you see a slowdown (the game will save forever and you can't continue or load that save slot again)

-Got early 'Investigative Reporter': I only had 7 tapes, but I still got the trophy. I took the 8th tape later too, just in case.

- Got early 'Weapons Expert': I didn't purchase the second RPG or it's upgrades, but I still got the trophy just after buying mortar upgrades. This meant I had 163/1000 diamonds left over before the end of the game and the things I didn't purchase were Stealth Camo, Boat upgrades, Truck upgrade, secondary and special crate (and that fancy RPG). So don't worry about saving money too much if you're after both Weapons Expert and Wages of Conflict trophy (I can't believe that's a bronze trophy, it's the only singleplayer one that required any effort)

-Buddies died randomly after mission was complete and they were ok: I didn't mind as long as I had at least two buddies to get the subverting trophies. It's worth mentioning that buddies have three 'lives'. They can be healed by you three times and on the fourth time, they die.

-Got early 'Dr Livingston, I presume': after I entered the top three squares of South side (I didn't visit any others yet), it popped up.

^^^You get Investigative Reporter the first time you turn in any tapes to the Reporter. People suggest you get all 8 in the North and turn them in at once cause there are stories of the reporter going missing.

Don't repair upgrades just slow down the amount of time it takes you to fix your car? I don't see how that's going to allow you to speed through the check points any faster.

I would suggest doing everything at night, it makes the game waaay easier to handle.

NQ8's there now. Sorry about that.

As for the gliders, my intention was to show which diamond to go for, rather than the route. I thought the routes were fairly straight forward seeing as a glider goes down and you won't be able to go over a mountain :p

As for NQ1 ... are you sure. I specifically remember that one going that way ... and so do a load of other guides on the net :p

I have a quick question about the "missable trophies". Are the ones that are considered as such, simply ones that take place in the North and, once you leave that area for the South, are considered missable?

Or, are there missable ones throughout the whole game?

I'm lookin' to pick this up soon... since I'm slowly getting into FPS games a lot more (recently got CoD4, BioShock and Bad Company) and thinking of getting a few games for over the summer (KZ2 and SFIV will last me for some time to come, RE5 for a bit, but the summer is always a bit of a drought).

Also, I've never played a sandbox FPS... so how did it turn out?

You should probably rent this one before you buy it as people either love it or hate it. I really like it. It's definitely not your typical FPS and shouldn't be played as you would normally play FPS games.

As for the missable trophies, there are a ton you can miss just by making one or two mistakes. I don't wanna speak for everyone else, but I feel like I gotta be really diligent in order to make sure I finish everything in one section before I move on to the next so that I don't end up having to replay this game (cause the game takes forever to beat).

The arrow is pointing towards the diamond which was on the ground in NQ1. The bottom one is on a cliff even though the in-game map does not indicate so.

Each time you drive through a checkpoint, your car gets shot. This means you have to drive forwards, stop, get out, shoot the mandatory chase-party, repair your vehicle and carry on driving. If you get the repair upgrades, you don't have to shoot the chasers (at least on easy), instead you can quickly repair your car and move on.

I personally liked and hated the game at the same time. Some ideas and the setting were really good. The voice acting was emotionless (and annoying, like Jackal or that Radio-tower guy) and all the missions were exactly the same. I also had the biggest fear of glitches than in any other game.

I might play the singleplayer again someday, but on the PC version and using the hardest difficulty setting.

The online is OK, I just wish it wouldn't disconnect after every single game.

Ahh, okay, thanks gettinmoney.

I already ordered it, as I liked the idea of FPS gameplay in a sandbox setting, plus I heard from a friend it wasn't your typical "run n' gun" FPS, which drew me in even more.

I'm not a hardcore FPS fan, but I've been slowly getting more and more into the genre (CoD4, BioShock, Resistance 2, Fallout 3, Battlefield: Bad Company all within the last few months). FC2 just seemed like a nice change of pace.
