Why an extra line break when typing paragraphs?

This is something I noticed. Maybe I have a setting wrong or something.

But why is it when I hit type a new paragraph (like this one) I get a new line on the post..

And if I put in a blank like the post has an extra blank line, like this.

I can fix it by editing it afterword's, but it's kinda peculiar. Is there a setting in Explorer or something that impacts this?

It could very well be some kind of browser setting. I use Firefox and have never had that happen.

Edit: here is a link of the issue in IE11. These are the reasons that as a developer I hate IE.

It looks like there is no known fix as it's a bug in IE. Either a bug or intentionally designed that way, it can't be changed.

I use Firefox v44.0 and have no problems at all with Paragraph settings so I would change browsers if you can't fix this bug.

I have this problem too in Chrome.

I don't know how to get rid of it, but there are ways to hide it.

For example, you could just type a dot and make it the forum grey colour (EBEBEB). All you would need to put is a dot.

So your coding would look like this:

[noparse].[/noparse]

This is how it turns out:

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

Jackdaws love my big sphinx of quartz.

Hope that helped. :)

I was having an issue with smilies at one point. I disabled all of my extensions and added them back one by one until I found the culprit.

It was a extension that didn't display gifs until they were completely loaded.

Try disabling all extensions if you have any

I don't. :|

I also don't understand how adding hidden periods is a solution to extra line breaks.

Well it's a solution that works for me.

And that's cool, you don't have to understand. If you don't have the problem that shrpax and I get then at the end of the day you don't really have any place to be stating your understanding of what could and couldn't be a solution, do you?

Yeah, I was kinda hoping you'd explain in more detail how it works rather than be a smart-ass.

Just like the original post says, it adds a line break between paragraph sometimes. I don't know if it's got to do with how many paragraphs there have been or whatever, but it seems more sporadic than formulaic tbh.

Here are some visual examples:

If you add a hidden period (or text in general) to a line then it's not going to add a line break there because the line isn't "empty". Therefore, that's why adding hidden periods is in fact a solution to extra line breaks.

Period Test

.

Test 2

It seems to me that simply going back and editing the post is easier than remembering the BB color code to make the dot invisible. It isn't a big problem it was an observation and an annoyance at best.

I am interested in the command for horizontal lines, though. I didn't see one in the BBCode guide, unless I glanced over it. The HTML is <hr>
