CommanderShepardN7
Hey guys, I just bought the ultime edition and have been playing it for about 3 hours without any issues. However, I just read that this edition is plagued with bugs and glitches, is that still true? Should I expect the game to become unplayable? PD: I also bought fallout 3 GOTY but haven't played yet. Should I expect issues while playing it?
Terminator
FO: NV is a technical disaster on every level with the worst frame-rate I've ever seen in a game (seriously we're talking single digit frame rate at times), it's also the most Crash prone game I own (45+ freezes and counting). Seriously though, this game is unplayable once your saves gets beyond 10mb (even at 2mb, the frame rate is pitiful at times) . It doesn't matter if you have the vanilla release or the Ultimate Edition, the problems are just as bad . Fallout 3 on the other hand does have issues but they're far less serious and much easier to manage if you follow the stickied guides . If I had to choose between FO3 and New Vegas, I'd go with FO3 . CommanderShepardN7
Damn... I wish I knew that before buying the game... I was having a great time, I guess the only thing I can do now It's enjoy it while it lasts. Thank you for your answer.

Over 150 hours of gameplay and I've only encountered a couple bug/glitches and the game of frooze 4-5 times

dragcon31
Is this problem only with the ultimate edition? I just picked up the UE for cheap and it was much cheaper then buying each DLC. I bought the game when it first came out and only played for 2 or 3 hours. I decided to come back to it to platinum and 100% the game. Should I just use the regular disc for the main game then put the UE in when its time to do the DLCs? What would be the recommend disc(s) to use to get this done fastest/smoothest. I have no current save file so I will be starting from the beginning. ars
The only engine difference between Ultimate Edition and normal edition is Ultimate being patched to the latest 1.7 version, while normal edition asks you to download the patches. There are no benefits playing without the patches, except few dupe/glitch opportunities due to some ~500 unfixed bugs. Also, you will break every DLC including their trophy support playing without the patches.

PsnGamer
To reassue you I was worried when I started playing the UE a few weeks back but I've put many hours in now - probably over 50 - and my main save is at 8MB and I have only had a handful of freezes. When the frame rate goes so slow save and quit out, I normally turn off then turn on and it's all good. The platinum will be fine if you utilise your saves and the DLC should be fine if you have saves at lvl20/lvl25
MaulRX
Finishing up the last of the DLC now and only two freezes, both while playing the card game. Go figure. I think the stability issues of the game are greatly exaggerated. Rough in spots but still a great game. I've used the only one save the entire time and it's hovering around 11mb in size for what it's worth.
Dreadnought190
I have a 65+ hour save file and it does sometimes have a very slow frame rate. This usually happens when I finished loading the game going through a door into a new area. this especially happens in Camp McCarran. Other than that I started Dead Money so I can change the pace of the game and have more enemies to kill (seems I have very few enemies to kill lately). Yordavin
Both games are really buggy. New Vegas even more than Fallout 3. However, I experienced mainly crashes in New Vegas (I have the Ultimate Edition too, and I've finished the game and all the dlc three times), no game-breaking bugs. The worst is the one that prevents the citizens of Primm from ever leaving the casino (after you get the town a new sheriff). I wish I could have seen people happily resuming their lives after my heroic intervention xD. But no problems aside from that. It's a pity that they're both so bugged, though, being such amazing games.
tomdrama
I did Fallout 3 on PS3 and had many, many freezes and crashes, so I skipped New Vegas in the end. However, I got a new PC last year and picked up New Vegas on that. Hopefully it's more stable on PC.
Mann0802
I just got this today and I'm hoping I get lucky like I did with my copy of Fallout 3 GOTY. Very few issues with that, but this game worries me...
Hippeus
Heaven help me, I'll be starting this game so I can get it off my backlog this week or next week. I enjoyed the game a lot on 360. Its just it has issues and more so on PS3.

Its just it has issues and more so on PS3. It hasn't been too bad for me. I think it's froze about four times in 20 hours. Not great, but better than I anticipated. Just requires a reboot here and there, plus a lot of saving. Maybe you'll get lucky too.

Well you seem to have better luck then me cause the damn thing has locked up twice and I barely have left Goodsprings. Don't know how companies get away with releasing games like this. I really don't. Edit: I'll try it again later tonight once I calm down. But if its locking up already then I'm not sure if I can platinum this like I did on 360. Plantiuming the game is pretty easy but all the freeze ups just make it so unbearable. Edited April 12, 2014 by Hippeus
Mann0802
I'll say I've had roughly 10 freezes or severe framerate issues with a fair amount of time played. Not good by any means, but not as bad as I had feared. If I play for a few hours straight in one particular area, I usually have to reset my PS3. I just make it part of the game now. The Governor
I finally got the Ultimate ed. too, as i never had the chance to play the dlc's, and here's how it went for me : - Dead Money : never did fallout run so smoothly. I don't have anything to report. No freeze, no lag, no nothing. And on top of that, DM is pretty fun. - Gun Runner challenges : going back to fallout vanilla made me remember why i only played the game once. But it wasn't really worse than before, at least. Oh well, the dlc's are glitch free, right ? - Honest Hearts : WRONG. The main issue here is lag, but only at the center of the map. Luckily, you don't have to go there a lot, but it was annoying enough to make me rush through the missions without exploring much. - Old World Blues : this is the worst. Same as before, the center of the map is basically Slideshow City. Thing is, you have to go there pretty often. Even quick travelling in front of the dome and just click x to open the door doesn't work half the time, as the game becames unplayble as soon as the loading stops. Same goes when you get out. I had to restart my console more time than i can count. - Lonesome Road : it went better, but i learned of the clear cache code just before starting it (wish i knew about that years ago), so maybe it's because of that. The first open area zone had the game lagging (not to the point I had to restart, but still) everytime an enemy was around. Once the foes are down, it's back to normal, as is the rest of the game. Freezes made their comeback, but at that point i considered myself lucky. All in all... it's an awfull experience. I want to love this game so much, but it's like i'm being punished for it. At the end, i just wanted to get the trophies and be done with it. I even set the game on very easy to go faster. I wouldn't have gone through that shit if it wasn't fallout (or if the pictograms for the trophies weren't so damn cute).
BrakoV5
I started the other day and after about 3-4 hours worth of game play the game had its first freeze. Earlier than the 20 or so hours for FO3 first crash, but that ended on such a bad experience for me. Started to play Honest Hearts and never had a single issue until the very last mission. Lag city oh my. A quick reboot and cache clear and the game was back to normal. Just got the GRA two stars for killing the death claws with .22, etc. Not a single frame rate issue or anything. Level 23/24 I think with one DLC done and a save file at around 5.500. This series shouldn't not be a one time only play through, but because they had such a difficult time porting to the PS3, that's sadly how Bethesda games end on the PS3. Real, real shame. EDIT: So far had a really good run. Only place that struggles is Camp McCarran. For some reason it just slows down and I have to quit and reload with a cache clean.
