Fallout: NV Still Lagging?

Nope it's still laggy as heck! Lonesome Road is the worst, some areas in there have a Frame-Rate that's nearly always in single figures when your Save is past the 10mb safe zone :(.

I'm in a pretty bad place on Lonesome Road, I kept pushing ahead as back on Fallout 3 (The Pit to be precise) I had single digit FPS up until a save point where I could reload and things were more stable. But on Lonesome road, it's a never ending slides how of images rather than a smooooooth gaming experience.

Im pretty much stuck now, I just cleared out the Nightkin from a basement for the ghouls next part is to follow them down and im getting like 1 frame per second when I shoot it takes about 5 seconds after I hit the button.

I tried restarting my ps3 but no luck, looks like I will have to delete my save and start again

my save has grown to 6mb

I have UK version of Ultimate Edition

Try the Cache Clear Code:

Hold :l2:, :r2: and :square: after the anti-save file corruption message has disappeared and the trophies have loaded and keep holding them until the main menu appears. You'll know if it has worked as the words "Fallout: New Vegas" and "[Press Start]" will disappear. All the CCC does is clear any and all temp and corrupted files that FO: NV generates.

This will temp fix all except the absolute worst Frame-Rate issues.

^Good advice^

Also I always save often, and in a new save file every time - this can significantly reduce save file corruption, especially if you turn off all autosaves which is only recommended if you stick rigidly to a 'save often' regime.

Another thing I always do is as soon as I detect any lag whatsoever, I will save (in a fresh save file) and restart the game, clearing the cache as I do that - usually the game will then be good for another few hours of clean, smooth play - even in troubled areas.

I realise that what works for some may not work for others, but these tips can help reduce the frustrations with what is otherwise one of the best role players ever...imo :D

(Btw, I have had the vanilla UK version since release, with all the DD DLC, and by following these rules, I've had no significant problems recently - my save file is currently greater than 16MB)

It's such a shame. I would really love to plat this.... (sigh) oh well :(

I just started it last night and played it a couple of hours and ran into no issues. Of course I still got a long way to go, so I'll see how well it holds up there.

I do plan on deleting my save files every once in awhile though.

How am I supposed to keep it below 10 mb for a game that 50-60 hours long not including the 5 dlc packs

After playing for awhile, the only lagging I've been experiencing is right around and in the strip, and it's some awful lag. Move stop, move stop, ugh. Almost makes me want to say screw this game, considering a good amount of quests and the main story takes place at the strip, I'm guessing.

Luckily I haven't experienced too much lag, only inside the casinos does the game lag for me, and it lags really bad so I have to restart the game to get rid of it. I don't see how its possible to leave the DLC for another playthrough because you can't do playthrough+ and you need to be high level for some of these DLCs.

The max you need to be is 35 if I remember right so here's what I'd do:

1: Start a new game

2: Earn enough XP to start the Lowest level DLC (Dead Money if I remember right) but save before you start and backup that save somewhere.

3: Finish the DLC then reload the save you made earlier.

4: Continue the game as normal until you have enough XP to start the Next DLC

5: Repeat steps 2-4 until you have all the DLC trophies.

:).

Here are some tips that could help reduce lag:

  • Lower the volume and turn off the radio - (a known resource hog)
  • Only have one companion if you can - (companions sap your systems resources too)
  • Remove any misc. items you see by placing them into a dead thing, or selling them - (this removes all the data associated with that item from the game when inventories are reset, or when the dead thing disappears)
  • Install an SSD.

The last point is a drastic one, and expensive too, but would certainly significantly speed up your system - personally I wouldn't go to all that expense just for one game.

If you combine the first 3 points with clearing the cache (posted elsewhere on this board) and saving with a fresh save file everytime, then maybe it could help reduce the likelihood of slow downs/lag, although as your save file gets beyond ~10mb it's likely to be inevitable at some points.

Hope this helps someone :)

Bethesda and Obsidian should be ASHAMED of themselves. There is no excuse for this game. It lags way too much, boots me out the game. No excuse for them releasing a half finished product onto the market. Nintendo NEVER would release a game with this many bugs and these developers should be ashamed cause they have a big development team and they basically copy and pasted from Fallout 3 so you'd think by now they'd figure out the problems with the system and make the glitches uncommon but no they managed to make MORE LAGGY GLITCHY GAMEPLAY. Trade your copy of New Vegas in and just play Fallout 3.

This must be one of the games I've played the most this generation. Hundreds of hours on my X360 flew by thanks to this game. Then I tried the PS3 version some months ago, and quickly understood all the complaints about it. It's a real shame at two levels. Firstly, no game should be released with so many bugs (and if so, developers' top priority should be fixing them right away). And secondly, of all the games that could have been this poorly presented, I feel sincerely sad it had to be Fallout: New Vegas. Because it's an incredible game a lot of people will miss due to this, and I can't blame them.

I have the G.O.T.Y edition after spending 80 hours in the main game, I moved onto the DLC and the frame rate would drop so bad and crash the game about every 20 minutes.

In the end I had to start new saves to do the DLC trophies.

This is still one of my favorite games, I am a PlayStation fan boy but I admit this game is best played on PC, I don't have the greatest computer but still played the G.O.T.Y edition on it with all settings maxed out for 120 hours without any lag at all and only crashed 2 times.

I have played a fair amount of Bethesda's games on the PS3 (FO3, oblivion, skyrim, etc) and this game was the worst performing title, by far.

I played the GOTY edition (disc), multiple freezes, system crashes, and the frame rate slow down/lag was beyond obnoxious towards the end of the game, so much so that it became a chore to finish/plat.

I enjoyed FO3 loads more than this, i also played the GOTY edition on that one and did not have even a quarter of the issues with that game as I did with NV. It really soured the experience and that is what will stand out in the front of my mind whenever i think about this game.

Not Bethesda's best work by a mile.
