Introduction

F1 Race Stars is a bit different from the typical F1 game as it is karting based instead of realistic! It is a perfect game for someone who is a fan of F1 and racing looking for something a bit different this year. The gameplay is typical of most karting games - with power-ups, shortcuts and crazy track layouts - although there is no drifting. Career Mode will see you racing through 30 championships, across 11 tracks (all based on real F1 locations, with a twist) and 9 game modes. Time Trial tests your skills with tricky gold challenges, Race mode lets you create your own custom events with up to 3 modifiers, Online lets you play with up to 11 other players online (with the AI filling up the other spots) and there is even a split-screen mode! Overall it is a fast and frantic game, but without too much challenge and nothing we haven't really seen before.

Walkthrough

1 - Career Mode

Career Mode is the perfect starting place. Here you will learn all of the tracks and game modes, and earn almost half of the trophies. When you start career mode use a different team for the first 14 championships so you can get Social Butterfly done as quickly as possible. Using 1000cc is the easiest way to play through your career. This speed class is the slowest, with the AI being easier to beat. However, the AI difficulty can spike randomly making races quite difficult and frustrating. If you encounter this problem I would recommend playing through career in split screen, as the AI slow down drastically if you have a second 'player' sat on the start line doing nothing.

To unlock all career related trophies you will have to place 3rd or higher in all 30 championships; although in 8 championships you will need to finish 1st to unlock the next one (these are outlined in Shelf Promotion). One AI driver tends not to dominate a championship, so consistency is the key to placing in the top 3 overall, although a race win helps massively! Winning may seem quite random early on, but if you always try and keep a power-up that is beneficial to the position you're in (for example a defensive one when in first) then this will make life easier. Once you've got Social Butterfly it is best to play as Sebastian Vettel or Mark Webber in all other events, as the slipstream boost is easily the most beneficial of all the constructor bonuses.

These trophies will unlock during this step:

* Taste of Victory (B)

* Career is GO! (B)

* Career 25% (B)

* Career 50% (B)

* Career 75% (S)

* Career 100% (G)

* Shelf Promotion (S)

* Your Friends are Cool (B)

* Heavyweight (B)

* Scientific Method (B)

* Nailed the Jump (B)

* Jump Boost Expert (B)

* Slipstreamer (B)

* Slipstream Expert (B)

* Player of Games (B)

* Social Butterfly (B)

* Pitmaster (B)

* Whoops! (B)

* They See You Rollin' (S)

It is also possible to get most of the trophies listed in section 5 of the roadmap while playing through career mode (with the exception of the two split screen related trophies). Most of these require you to concentrate more on getting the specific trophy rather than winning a championship though, and so will more likely mess up your championship progress. Some will most likely just unlock as you race through the career, the rest can be concentrated on in Step 5.

2 - Online

There are only two trophies in this section:

* Internet Famous (B)

* Ecto-won (B)

Both are relatively quick and simple. This game isn't very popular online, so Internet Famous can be a bit tricky to get done through normal gameplay. I would suggest boosting in a private game straight away as this will likely save time trying to find a match, but keep in mind that you will still need to beat the AI drivers while boosting. Ecto-won will need to be boosted as you will have to beat a slow time posted by a friend. A glitch regarding this trophy, which involves a limitation to the amount of times that are uploaded to the scoreboard, was uncovered a few months after release. Please see the trophy guide for more details.

3 - 3000cc

Winning races on 3000cc is a matter of finding the right mode that works for you. I have outlined the one I feel is best under Around the World, after trying out numerous combinations.

The following trophies will unlock during this step:

* Abu Dhabi Expert (B)

* Australia Expert (B)

* Belgium Expert (B)

* Brazil Expert (B)

* Germany Expert (B)

* Great Britain Expert (B)

* Italy Expert (B)

* Japan Expert (B)

* Monaco Expert (B)

* Singapore Expert (B)

* USA Expert (B)

* Around the World (S)

4 - Shortcuts/Time Trials

This step combines the shortcut and time trial trophies. One track at a time, and following the settings outlined in the trophy guide, do an individual event on one track to find all the shortcuts, and then a Time Trial on the same track afterwards. It helps to do the Time Trial straight away as you will know all of the shortcuts very well and will be able to minimise your time spent playing this mode, as it can be quite frustrating to get gold times.

The following trophies will unlock during this step:

* Red Carpet (B)

* Shortcut Expert (B)

* Qualifying Lap (B)

* Bronze Time (B)

* Silver Time (S)

* Gold Time (G)

5 - Clean-up

This final step involves cleaning up any of the mode and power-up specific trophies you may have missed in step 1. You will also need to create a split screen race and win 6 times in a row for both King of the Screen trophies.

The following trophies will be yours after this step:

* Fish in a Barrel (B)

* Fully Automatic (B)

* Exhibition Rush (S)

* Vapours (S)

* My House (S)

* Causing Trouble (B)

* Shakedown (S)

* Prince of the Screen (B)

* King of King of the Screen (S)

* Bingo! (S)

* Race Star (P)

Trophy Guide

Unlock all 49 trophies

Another amazing Codemasters platinum title and description, but it's yours to keep forever! :D

1 - Career

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/32B.jpg Taste of Victory (B)

Win an event (no teams)

No doubt this will be one of your first trophies in the game. It will unlock once you win your first race, regardless of difficulty - just make sure that teams are disabled.

See - Career 100%.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/5F5.jpg Career 100% (G)

Complete 30 different championships in your career

This trophy, and the 4 preceding ones, will unlock as you progress through the F1 Race Stars career mode (Career is GO! - after 1 championship, Career 25% - after 8 championships, Career 50% - after 15 championships, Career 75% - after 23 championships, and Career 100% after all 30 championships). You won't have to win every single championship - 3rd will do for about half of them - but a handful of championships will require a gold trophy on the championship beforehand to unlock (these championships are the ones mentioned under Shelf Promotion below). The other locked championships at the start require a certain amount of trophies to unlock, but the most these will ask for is 44. Finishing 3rd in a chmpionship will give you one trophy, 2nd will give you two and 1st nets three trophies. Difficulty has no effect on these PS3 trophies unlocking.

The championships are mostly easy, although there are a few which will provide a bit more of a challenge. Pure Racing (#18) is about as hard as it gets - 3 races with no power-ups and fragile damage (one tiny collision with another driver and you'll be inflicted with maximum damage). If you can do this championship without much trouble, then nothing else will be difficult. If you are struggling to win a championship then restarting the event is the best option, as it takes you back to the start of the race, and not the start of the championship.

Fill your career trophy cabinet

At the start of your career you'll see the silhouettes of 8 trophies in the bottom right hand corner of the main career menu. These trophies are unlocked as you progress through career mode and are part of the 30 championships. You'll need to finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd overall in each championship for it to unlock in the cabinet and the trophy will unlock after you have all 8. Difficulty has no effect on this PS3 trophy unlocking.

These championships are as follows: Initiation Cup, European II, World-Class, Endurance II, Elite Skills, Mirrored II, Race Stars III & Crazy Trails II.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/92D.jpg Your Friends are Cool (B)

Complete a championship in your career in a splitscreen team

Simply select a second player, using a second controller, when entering career mode and complete one championship to unlock this trophy. Make sure you have teams turned on and that you and the second player are on both teams, as if you're not you won't get the trophy. You can either do this with a friend or just leave the second controller idle - either way works just fine.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/A07.jpg Heavyweight (B)

Affect 3 drivers with a single Pulse

This is one of a number of trophies you should unlock quite easily by playing through the career. Once you have a pulse power-up (ideally near the start of the race when the pack is very close together) just detonate it when you see there are 3 other drivers close by and the trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/DFC.jpg Scientific Method (B)

Make an impact with each type of power-up

A very simple trophy that will unlock early in the career. All you have to do is use each type of power-up, making sure to hit another driver with all of the weapon based ones.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/D64.jpg Nailed the Jump (B)

Trigger a jump boost

See - Jump Boost Expert.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/BF8.jpg Jump Boost Expert (B)

Trigger 50 jump boosts

A jump boost is when you gain a small amount of boost when landing from a jump of any size - it could be a massive jump (like the one early on in Singapore), or the tiniest drop off a ledge. To trigger the boost you need to let go of :r2: once you're in the air and then press it again just as you land. You will trigger a lot more than 50 jump boosts while playing, so this trophy will come naturally.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/C00.jpg Slipstreamer (B)

Slipstream past a driver

See - Slipstream Expert.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/D5C.jpg Slipstream Expert (B)

Slipstream past 50 drivers

Another two very simple trophies. I had them both in the first hour of playing. You'll slipstream a driver anytime you're directly behind them, so this will always happen if you start at the back. Make sure you pass a driver after slipstreaming and you'll have a pass that counts towards the trophies.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/E28.jpg Player of Games (B)

Complete one event in each race mode

By completing the career you'll finish multiple races in each mode, so this trophy will come naturally as you progress through career mode.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/5E0.jpg Social Butterfly (B)

Complete one event with each constructor

The easiest way to do this trophy is to complete the first 14 championships in career mode with a different constructor. You can look under 'Statistics & Collection' in the 'My Stuff' menu to see what constructors you have and haven't raced with.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/E19.jpg Pitmaster (B)

Repair in the pits 10 times

Another very simple trophy - one of the first you will unlock. When damaged, simply go into the pits - there are several on each track, which are clearly marked with an arrow once you have taken damage - and repair. Once you have done this 10 times you'll unlock the trophy. I repaired 314 times in the pits while playing, so you won't need to worry about it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/033.jpg Whoops! (B) (H)

Hit yourself with your own Ricochet Bubble

With the amount of ricochet bubbles you'll fire while playing, one is bound to hit you eventually. If not, just park in front of a wall and fire a ricochet bubble - it'll bounce off the wall and straight back at you!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/434.jpg They See You Rollin' (S) (H)

Earn 3,141 badges

Random number - easy trophy. Badges are earned whenever you hit another player with a weapon, boost, use KERS or complete one of many other easy challenges. I earned 7275 badges while playing, so this trophy should unlock naturally at some point on your road to Platinum.

2 - Online

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/CC7.jpg Internet Famous (B)

Win an online event (no teams)

This is one of two online trophies in the game and can be done relatively easily. It is possible to do through normal gameplay online, although there aren't many players online only a few months after release, so I would advise boosting straight away. To boost, simply create a 2 lap race in a private game (damage set to off and power-ups to simple) in the 1000cc class on any track (the shorter ones are usually the easiest). Please note that you will still need to beat the AI drivers when playing in any online race for the win to be counted.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/6D0.jpg Ecto-won (B)

Beat a friend's Time Trial lap

To beat a friend's lap you will need to race against their ghost and beat the time. This sounds pretty simple, but there is a big glitch with this trophy that will only make it harder to obtain over time. Only the 1000 fastest times for each track (and also each class) will show up on the leaderboard, and so only these 1000 fastest times can be used as ghosts. Attempting this trophy in either 3000cc or 2000cc would be pretty tricky right now as the top 1000 times are pretty quick. Even a number of tracks in 1000cc are filled with fairly quick times.

Instead of finding a friend to boost this trophy with it would be easier for everyone to beat one of two slow laptimes I have posted. Add me to PSN (AstroFlibble) and make sure to state in your friend request that it is for Ecto-Won, as I have a habit of deleting all blank requests. It may take a while for my laptime to show up on your mini-leaderboard (the 3 times on the main time trial screen), but once it does you should be able to beat the time easily. If anyone else on your friends list has posted a faster time than mine in 1000cc on the two tracks below then you will have to delete them temporarily and re-add, as the game will only allow you to compete against the fastest ghost.

The first laptime I have uploaded is on 1000cc at Monaco - a time of 2:03.42.

The second laptime is considerably easier, but is on the Canadian DLC track. The class is once again 1000cc and the laptime is 2:58.81.

Please try and beat the time by one second, as this way the leaderboard won't clog up with even faster times, which will only make the trophy harder for future players more quickly. I posted a time of 3:08 in 1000cc on Singapore a few months ago and at the time it was roughly the 750th fastest time. Now that time is long gone and a 1:19 isn't even fast enough to make it into the top 1000. Also, please let me know once you have the trophy, as I will need to delete anyone who adds me for this trophy within a few days, as I've had many requests so far.

Win an event on every track at 3,000cc (no teams)

Winning an event on 3000cc is a lot easier than it first appears. The trick is to find the right mode and settings to win. I tried several before settling on a 2 lap Sector Chase event with no damage and extra long boosts. As long as you stay near the front of the pack you'll be able to dominate a few sectors, and seeing as it's very rare for any of the AI drivers to dominate an event, you'll be able to win most at the first attempt. Even if you're level with other drivers at the end (say 3 drivers with 2 sectors each) the game will classify you as first and award the trophy. It will even unlock if each sector is dominated by a different driver, as long as you're one of those drivers!

This particular trophy will unlock once you have the 11 trophies associated with each of the 11 tracks. Make sure that teams are disabled to unlock all of these trophies.

4 - Shortcuts & Time Trials

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/E36.jpg Red Carpet (B)

Take a locked shortcut

See - Shortcut Expert.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/080.jpg Shortcut Expert (B)

Take every shortcut in the game

To unlock this trophy you'll need to obtain the 'Explorer' badge at every circuit. To unlock the Explorer badge you'll need to use every shortcut on a track in the same event, including the locked shortcuts - it will not unlock if you take two on a particular track in one event and then the rest in another. The locked shortcuts can be activated by picking up a key that is hidden on the track (almost always on a 'shortcut' that is longer than the main track). The game won't track which circuits you have unlocked this badge for, so you'll need to write a checklist to keep track of your progress.

I unlocked this trophy by doing a 4 lap race on each track with damage disabled. The best way to do it is to take as many of the shortcuts you know of on the 1st lap (ignoring the locked one) and then go for the locked shortcut on your second lap. The remaining laps are to mop up any shortcuts that overlap or you may have missed on the first 2 laps, and also for multiple attempts on getting the key to unlock the secret shortcut, as you aren't guaranteed to get it on your first attempt. It took me 3 or 4 laps on most events to use all of the shortcuts. Make sure you watch closely to see when the Explorer badge pops-up and make sure you finish the race (although it doesn't matter if you have a DNF because all other drivers finished).

Most of the tracks have a handful of shortcuts and they're pretty easy to work out. The hardest is USA, as many of the shortcuts are simply cutting corners across the grass.

Once you've taken one locked shortcut, you will unlock Red Carpet.

Set a Time Trial record

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/667.jpg Gold Time (G)

Earn a gold Time Trial record on all tracks

Earning a gold time on all 11 tracks will require some patience, and for a number of tracks, can be quite frustrating. You will have to play on 3000cc to get gold times - any other class is far too slow. The best way to approach this trophy is to play each track after completing career mode, so you know every shortcut. It will most likely take a few laps to get within a second of the gold time, as you'll need to experiment with where you can best use the boost power-ups to cut corners. Then it's only a matter of time to perfect the lap and earn a gold time.

Most tracks would probaby take an average player 10 attempts to get right, but some are easier and others are very frustrating. I did USA in one go (even missing out a few shortcuts), but Japan and Monaco took much longer. Monaco is frustrating because it's very twisty, but Japan is very cheap due to the vehicles about 2/3 of the way through and the sumo statues that block your way - no matter how good you are, random luck with where these obstacles are can ruin your lap. Keep at these two and you'll eventually get a gold time.

5 - Clean-up

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/B99.jpg Fish in a Barrel (B)

Use power-ups against 3 drivers who are within range of the safety car (globals not included)

This trophy will most likely unlock at some point during career mode, but can easily be done in an individual event. The best weapon to use is a x3 ricochet bubble as you can quite easily hit 3 drivers when they are driving slowly.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/D86.jpg Fully Automatic (B)

Hit the same driver three times with a 3x Ricochet Bubble

Another pretty straightforward trophy. All you have to do is hit another driver 3 times with a x3 ricochet bubble. Just make sure you slow down and hit another driver once you have this weapon, and then repeat a 2nd and 3rd time with the same driver.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/DC8.jpg Exhibition Rush (S)

Earn 1,000 Exhibition points in under 5 seconds

In Exhibition mode you'll get points for earning badges. You'll get more points per badge the further up the field you are, and so this trophy is much easier to obtain in 1st place. The KERS badge is worth 800 points in 1st place, so combining this with boosting or hitting another driver with a weapon will take your total to over 1000 points in less than 5 seconds. From further down the field it is possible to get 1000 points by slipstreaming, boosting and hitting drivers with weapons in quick succession. Singapore and Silverstone are the easiest tracks to attempt this trophy, as they have a few sequences with a lot of boosting.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/63D.jpg Vapours (S)

Win a Refuel event with an empty tank (no teams)

The key to winning a refuel event is to have as little fuel as possible. Fuel pick-ups are very common, so make sure you only refuel when your tank is almost empty. Doing this should mean you'll have a significant lead when you're close to the finish. Just make sure your tank is empty (no fuel will flash on the screen when it is) as you cross the finish line to unlock the trophy. The 'Running on Vapours' badge will unlock as you finish if done correctly. Using the KERS boost at the final corner and keeping a boost power-up is good insurance to make sure another driver won't overtake you before the finish line.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/C86.jpg My House (S)

Own the whole track in Sector Snatch

This trophy was very frustrating for me as I had to try several different settings to get the right match. The key to owning all sectors is to slow down the AI as much as possible and for this I did a 9 lap race on Belgium (shorter track/less sectors) with damage off, power-ups to simple and with the monsoon modifier on. These settings meant the AI was unable to get cheap times by using some of the powerful 'catch-up' power-ups, and the rain also made their pace pretty rubbish. You can either use a Red Bull or HRT for this trophy, as their boosting bonuses will make dominating sectors very easy (*). There is always a sector to be owned along the locked shortcut, so make sure you get the key early on to own this sector. The trophy will unlock once all sectors are yours.

* - Thanks to eduardohrks for the HRT tip.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/301.jpg Causing Trouble (B)

Hit another driver after being eliminated

This is a pretty poor trophy as the race ends just a few seconds after you're eliminated. I managed to get it just after I was eliminated from a career race, but that was down to dumb luck rather than going for the trophy.

The best way to obtain it is to play in split-screen. In split-screen choose Belgium as the track and start an elimination event. Leave the first controller to be eliminated and then pick it up once the pack comes around to the start/finish line for the first time. You'll have a pulse weapon which recharges and should be able to hit another driver very easily, which will unlock the trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1637/403.jpg Shakedown (S)

Make a nearby driver drop 600 points in Trophy Chase

This trophy needs to be done during a trophy chase event (use an individual event with 25000 points to win), where 1 trophy = 100 points. To make a driver drop trophies simply hit them with a weapon. If at first you don't make a driver drop the required amount of points, keep trying until the trophy pops. Drivers will generally drop more trophies when they have a higher amount overall.

Reach King of the Screen level 6

King of the Screen is a status you can earn by winning races in split-screen mode, with 6 races won in a row needed for this trophy (and 3 for the previous). You will need to beat AI cars as well as other players. I unlocked this trophy by doing a 1 lap 1000cc race playing as Vettel on Belgium, as it is very easy to get into 1st place by the time you reach the last part of the lap on this track. If you're going to lose a race simply restart to keep your King of the Screen status.

Use a power-up against every opponent on the track (globals not included)

This is one of the more frustrating trophies in the game as you'll have to hit all 11 opponents with a non-global power-up in one race, and there is no way to track who you have and have not hit. This trophy may unlock while playing through career mode, but I expect most players will need to create a 9 lap individual race, with power-ups to simple (eliminating globals) and try to hit each and every player with weapons.

Excelent guide ! Congratulations for the author :applause:

Tested and confirmed. Those tips are good stuff

I used an slightly different method for the "My House" trophy though that I would like to share here as it was a struggle for me, I used the HRT team as it has the bonus of boosts in sequence. You should definitely go for 9 laps no damage and simple power ups, I figured that one don´t need to bother with other drivers as long as you save the boost power up and blast away through each sector thus earning the fastest sector without the chance of losing it later (even the harder ones), you can even stop over one of the item boxes and stay "selecting" powerups until you get that particular one (the boost), at the end all that counts is your time through the sectors you don´t even need to complete the 9 laps if you dominate the sectors earlier.:cool:

Great guide man!

Though I don't think you need the subtitles for each section of the guide, e.g: 5- Clean Up.

Very impressive! :)

Maybe, maybe not .. although I think it does help to find the relevant trophy when following the roadmap a bit quicker.

Cheers!

Thanks. :)

I forgot the part about the trophy unlocking once all sectors are dominated - I'll add that in. I'll also add in your tip for using HRT and give credit.

Ah, great to see a guide is finally out for this! Have been thinking of picking it up for a while, but thought the Platinum time would be way more than it is. Keep it up!

Yeah, it is pretty difficult, and one of those platinum times that ranges a lot depending on how good you are at the game. It's going to take me probably double that time lol.

Should pick up in activity soon as it's going to free on PS Plus. For anyone that has platinumed this game did you think it was easy?

Most of the game is relatively straight forward. The only tricky parts are the Time Trials as on some tracks the gold time is tough to beat. Even the 3000cc trophies aren't too bad seeing as you can change the game mode and setting to suit what it best for you.

It took me just under 20 hours - including time spent trying a few different settings out for a guide, so anyone who has decent experience with racers is looking at around about that time.

Congrats on the sticky man! :)

Congrats Astro, very well-deserved :applause:

Thanks guys! :)

One question I have... can you boost by yourself the online trophies in this game? By creating secondary online accounts in the same console I mean.

You can have a second player/controller in an online game, but you won't be able to start the race until someone else has joined the lobby.

Thanks for the great comments guys. :)

for the social butterfly trophy is a championship say a European 1 or a Americas? or is a championship on the career page with the 8 trophies at the bottom right hand corner? cheers

Its any of the 30 career mode championships. You just need to change constructors for the first 14 of them to get Social Buterfly asap.

is the cc the difficulty?

If so why is it easier to win races on 3000cc than on 1000cc, truly mind boggling, im shit at racing games but not that shit.

Kinda, cc (cubic centimetres) refers to engine size so 3000cc is the fastest class. Like Mario Kart etc the faster the karts, the tougher the ai. Either this game got it backwards or you're just suited to faster racing :p
