Walkthrough:

The main focus of this roadmap is to ease the long wait to get the Coloniser, Tough Guy, and Competitive Spirit (Unobtainable) trophies. Certain aspects of the game related to the trophies will be listed with the respective trophy. This roadmap only serves to highlight the most efficient way of going about things without dependence on paid content and does not explore elements of the game in-depth. Please pay attention to the tutorial for gameplay basics.

This game is free but supports purchasing content with real money. Many trophies are much, much easier if you do so but this guide is written with the intent of avoiding that.

Singleplayer:

The game begins with one Tutorial area, one open Ecosystem to develop, three Challenge areas, two locked Ecosystems and one Online Challenge ecosystem. The two locked Ecosystems cost one million and two million Ecopoints respectively, and the Online Challenge is free. Due to a lack of funds and resources, these will be almost unapproachable for quite a long time.

Do the tutorials - they provide basic insight on the game and the Step by step trophy.

As for the free Ecosystem, if desired, add a single Maanhare and a single Corporeus plant. The Maanhare will have it's needs sated but the Corporeus plant will eventually wither and die, so it is likely that it eventually need to be replaced. However, this is cheaper than adding creatures to balance the system as more advanced plants will render the Corporeus useless for our purposes due to it's low production and high upkeep. This is solely to get a head start on the Tough Guy trophy and can be left to later, if desired.

Begin by completing all challenges. Due to the real-time aspect of the game, this will take 2 to 3 weeks, regularly checking and micro-managing the challenge Ecosystems. This will unlock a number of low-level purchasable creatures, all purchasable plants, slightly less than 1.6 million Ecopoints and Against wind and tide.

Go back to your initial ecosystem and purchase another Maanhare to create a breeding pair, as well as two more pairs of creatures. You need one from the 2nd Tier and one from the 3rd, these serve as a cheap and easily replaceable food source for higher-ranking carnivores and omnivores. Once done add your newly unlocked Tarphusi and Irvicaria plants until vegetation and moisture requirements are sated. Though expensive, these plants provide better production and have lower requirements than other plants, while taking up the same space. Avoid purchasing Fungi, as their Mineral production is better gotten from creatures.

Purchase high-value creatures through the Auction system. Remember to purchase pairs of creatures, for breeding, preferably without paying too much. Ideally purchase Gold-rank or Platinum-rank creatures, of the 3rd and 4th tier. These will provide a great deal of Ecopoints and can reproduce to grant even more. Add them to your initial ecosystem.

You may need to add more creatures of the species you previously added to the system to supply the carnivores with more food, but avoid adding creatures of different species for the moment. This ecosystem, thanks mostly to the Rank 4 and Rank 3 creatures, will supply a good deal of Ecopoints. The main goal is to keep the variety to a minimum, to get your ecosystem's creatures up to their Optimal Population, which gives the best supply of Ecopoints it can - a single creature requires 9% of your maximum space, but each additional creature only requires .5% extra on top of that. As a result, 20 Maanhare costs 18%, but together, 10 Maanhare and 10 Hikeshi cost a substantial 27%. However, it may be desirable to add a few more creatures to get the variety up for Variety is the spice of life and a higher variety bonus - though you should then dispose of any unnecessary creatures or add a Terraform type artefact to increase your population limit. If you understand this (and feel safe) then add additional species as you want, to increase your Ecopoints growth even further.

Much of the next step is waiting as your ecosystem supplies the Ecopoints necessary for other trophies and your added creatures slowly Adapting to their environment. Make sure you check your ecosystem every few days to avoid the Ecosystem falling out of balance or creatures falling extinct. When a herd/pack of creatures reaches their population limit, feel free to auction one or two off - if they sell, they will provide more Ecopoints and so long as there is at least two, they will reproduce and supply more. The Ecopoints gained from doing so can be quite significant - any Species only available through Emblems will have a minimum sale price much higher than the number of Ecopoints lost while waiting for the new birth.

Eventually you'll have a million Ecopoints, enough to buy the second ecosystem. Repeat the same process as with the initial ecosystem but perhaps with a different variety of creatures, to give you even greater Ecopoint growth or save up for the final ecosystem and Coloniser. Either way, you will most likely be done several weeks before you acquire Tough Guy.

Online Challenges:

Warning: There have been no online challenge competitions since October 2015. As a result, Competitive Spirit (G) is no longer possible to achieve.

Online Challenges are held very uncommonly, every 4 to 5 weeks, or more, and last for two weeks of competition. However, only the top 100 competitors win prizes and more importantly, the trophy Competitive Spirit. With the low success rate, and the number of players purchasing creatures through the Playstation Store, this will likely be very difficult to achieve, though as weeks pass you will have less competition.

The goal is simple - gain as many Ecopoints as possible in the time limit. This means you want as many high ranking creatures as you can get your hands on, to supply the best result. Two free methods exist - purchase creatures from the Auction and, the slightly less fair option, use the Auction to convert the creatures in your Ecosystems to Emblems. The second method is to sell your desired creatures for a very high price. Either someone will buy your expensive creature, giving you a substantial windfall or it will not sell and you can collect your creature from the auction as an Emblem, which can then be placed in any Ecosystem. Alternatively, you can purchase a large number of creatures from the game's store, though it is far more unreliable about giving you matching creatures than it is to take two and breed them and the Platinum pack may not give you many Platinum creatures at all.

By placing a great deal of high-quality creatures in the Online Challenge ecosystem, you will earn a great deal of Ecopoints. If your final Ecopoint total is among the top 100, you will gain the trophy and a few prizes. Make sure to log into the game to update your final score to the leaderboard, then after the final scores have been tallied to collect your trophy and prizes.

If you feel concerned about your chances, you can use the Vita's backup feature or PSN Plus' cloud save feature to retain any emblems you plan to use by copying the save back to your Vita after the end of the challenge. However, remember to put your game into Pause mode, otherwise the game will run through any missing time, often resulting in a loss of balance, or loss of species, in your ecosystems. There will also be a 12 hour window where auction functions will be disabled after you restore your save.

Warning: Failure to collect your prizes within the two days after scores have been tallied will result in the trophy being lost and needing to win a second Online Challenge to acquire it.

Finish among the top 100 in an online challenge.

UNOBTAINABLE due to no more challenges being made available.

Complete the tri-weekly Online Challenge among the top 100 to win prizes. The top 100 is determined by the total number of Ecopoints in the system when the Challenge is declared finished, at the end of the fortnightly period. Log into the game after then to upload your score and again once all scores have been tallied to collect your prize. You'll be able to see the start and end times for all of these, as well as your current rank, by viewing the Online Challenge information board on the planet before accessing the Ecosystem itself. See the Roadmap for more detailed information on strategy.

Warning: You will only receive the trophy if you collect your prize. If you do not collect your prize in the two day time window, it will become impossible to acquire it without winning yet another online challenge.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1718/FD4.jpg Against wind and tide (S)

Complete ecosystem challenges 1, 2 and 3.

There are 12 Challenges, grouped in three areas. Complete all 12 for the trophy. Challenges can be replayed for 1/10th of their original reward of Ecopoints and can be failed and retried as much as desired but each individual challenge must be completed for the trophy, regardless of when.

Most of the challenges are relatively straightforward though some issues arise with:

  • Challenge Set 2: A Small Harvest - Do not add plants, they're too expensive and provide few Ecopoints. Getting the 40,000 is very tight, but immediately add 5 Tyap, then wait 5 hours and add a 6th, and this will provide just enough Ecopoints to reach the goal.

  • Challenge Set 3: Behaviour - Be very cautious. The 90% limitation puts you in a very delicate position so think ahead: buying a Dra and then a plant may trigger the fail condition, but buying the plant, then buying the Dra may not. Otherwise, you have a lot of money and freedom. Remember that 18 Dra is above the Optimal Population for the species: You can continue to add Dra past that but if you plan to have them reproduce, know that they will stop once they reach that optimum.

Should you have difficulty completing certain challenges, you can purchase creatures and Artefacts and use them in the Challenges, though they will be lost once the Challenge is complete.

Update: A 4th set of challenges was later added, but is not required for this trophy. The first 3 sets will be easiest, so it is recommended to focus on them.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1718/26E.jpgTough guy (S)

Create a level-10 alpha creature.

An Alpha Creature is an attribute of a herd of creatures. By keeping them in high health with all their needs sated - vegetation, available prey and potentially exceed water for lizards - their Adaptation bar will increase. Once it fills, it will be updated to an Alpha Creature, with +5% Ecopoint gain. Allow it to fill again and it upgrades to a Level 2 Alpha creature, with +10% Ecopoint gain. After ten times it becomes a Level 10 Alpha creature, with +50% Ecopoint gain. This is the longest trophy to acquire, with an expected time of 10 weeks. While Enzyme Artefacts can be acquired, which will increase the Adaptation rate, they are expensive to purchase from Auction, are rare, and only last for two days, severely limiting their usefulness.

Methods of increasing the Adaptation rate are indistinct but it is necessary to have high Vitality and for all of that species "needs" to be met, including vegetation, meat and excess moisture for Adaptation to rise at all.

This trophy has been shown to be delayed so do not be alarmed if the game takes several hours to register.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1718/5C4.jpg Collector (S)

Obtain 20 different tokens.

This trophy will become unobtainable after May 1st, 2019 due to the servers closing.

This is actually tokens for 20 different creatures at any single time. 10 Maanhare Tokens only counts as a single token for the purposes of this trophy, but 2 (or more) different ranks of the same species will count as 2 (or more) tokens. Tokens redeemed into creatures or Artefacts will also not count. Try to have your 10 Artefacts on hand before getting this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1718/A41.jpg Coloniser (S)

Colonise 3 ecosystems in free mode.

You begin with an initial free Ecosystem. The remaining two cost 1 million and 2 million Ecopoints, respectively and the trophy is unlocked upon purchasing them. The roadmap briefly goes over a simple and sustainable plan for getting more Ecopoints.

Depending on how many Ecopoints you acquire from Challenges and your free Ecosystem, and how much you spend on online challenges, this can take one to two months.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1718/A32.jpg Step by step (B)

Complete all the tutorials.

These are available from the world screen, there are seven of them and they are all short and simple.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1718/665.jpg Gardener (B)

Add 10 plants or fungi.

See Farmer.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1718/218.jpg Engineer (B)

Add 10 artefacts.

This trophy will become unobtainable after May 1st, 2019 due to the servers closing.

See Farmer.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1718/7BE.jpg Farmer (B)

Add 10 creatures.

You will need to add 10 of any type of creature to the Ecosystem for this trophy. Challenges count so this should come naturally as should Gardener.

Engineer will be slightly more difficult as most artefacts will need to be purchased from the Auction, but otherwise the same rules apply.

Warning: Tokens used during the online challenge may not count towards these trophies. This is mostly a concern for Engineer, but should be taken into account in general.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1718/5EF.jpgLeader of the pack (B)

Achieve 5 alpha creatures in a single ecosystem.

See Tough Guy for details. If you have an ecosystem of 5 creatures or more, and they remained balanced, then they will eventually all reach Alpha status and you will receive this trophy. It does not matter if the creatures are the same Alpha level or varied. Like Tough Guy this trophy tends to be delayed by as much as a couple of hours before popping, so this is not a cause for alarm.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1718/518.jpgVariety is the spice of life (B)

Achieve a biodiversity of level 8.

Biodiversity is when varied creature types coexist in the same Ecosystem, and higher levels reward you with greater bonuses to Ecopoint production. Level 8 supplies a +70% Ecopoint production bonus. Both plant and animal species have an impact Biodiversity. Different families, i.e, creatures of radically different design, seem to impact this more than different Species - creatures of the same design but different colouring. Nine or ten different Families and plant types should easily get you to Level 8, just barely enough to do without purchasing from the Auction.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1718/27F.jpg Shopkeeper (B)

Exchange 20 creatures or artefacts in the auction.

This trophy will become unobtainable after May 1st, 2019 due to the servers closing.

This includes any creatures or artefacts you sell, as well as ones you buy, though most likely does not count auctions without a buyer. Once you exchange 20 the trophy will pop.

Alright. Initial guide up. No, I don't have all the trophies, but I have 50% PSN score and 9/12 trophies. The last three are pure grind and generally really obvious. I can either come back in two months, or I can write it now and update if necessary, so here it is.

Huh... I guess I didn't need the second reservation after all.

Nice guide, thought of doing one myself but didn't want to do all the challenges again without using creatures bought in the store ;)

Concerning the Online Challenge trophy: You might want to emphasize that you only have a two-day window to get the trophy and prize two days after the challenge ended.

Concerning Coloniser: One way to make money is to buy two emblems of a family that doesn't have a free base creature and sell the grown-up offspring. They usually sell very well - the Mokileanu usually sells for 25k-50k.

Edit: I found the normal challenges pretty easy if you first stockpile base creatures you bought at the auction house. The challenge where you need 18 zuhiratos gets a lot easier if you just buy 10 off the auction house. Since the price for base creatures on the auction house has been capped, you just bid the highest price and you're certain to get it after the auction's over.

Cheers

Nor I. So I didn't. Though I think it's rather outside the scope of this guide to give a step by step solution. Common stumbling blocks, certainly, but I don't think it would be quite that overwhelming.

Done.

The Roadmap is already focused on earning money, since money is a generally very common concern for many trophies - the Artefact trophy, specifically, considering the Auction only sells a few Artefacts, ranging from expensive to very expensive, as well as the online. So, while I made a general statement about selling creatures already, I added one about the sheer amount of money that can earned, to emphasise it, since it seems I initially underplayed it.

Well, yeah... but that's the expensive solution. Ideally, it should not be necessary to spend money and use Emblems. The solution exists, but it seems unwise to spend a quarter of a challenges' reward on the challenge itself, when that's unnecessary. It should only be considered should you constantly suffer failure, or if you already have an excessively large amount of Ecopoints.

True, forgot that you have to spend ecopoints in the auction house...

Plants do have some impact on biodiversity. I don't know the actual mechanics behind it, but when I put the last 3 vegetation/moisture providing plant species (calmer/irvicaria/tarphusi) into the free ecosystems to get the max 8 plant species, 2 ecosystems increased 1 level. Maybe that's where creature species come in.

The degree of the impact can easily be confirmed by removing all plants and re-placing them. If needed I can test that sometime.

No need to test it, i can confirm for a fact that plants have an impact. In fact i used plants in all my 3 ecosystems to up the bioiversity from level 10 to 11!

Ah, thanks for this, then. I had thought otherwise, but it seems I was mistaken.

And thanks to Rhasget for confirming Tough Guy and the delayed notification - I guess I was more right than I expected to be, then: it really is exactly like the other Alpha trophies.

This is just a quick reminder to submit this guide so the Guide Team can look it over :).

I was hoping that I'd get a little more input, but if those people looking think this is adequate, then I'll submit it to the guide team.

I have one question related to the Engineer trophy, I'm pretty sure that I've used more than 10 artefacts, some of them in the online challenge, could it be that those on the online challenge don't count towards this trophy ?

Thanks

It's certainly possible, though unconfirmed. I'm not exactly overflowing with examples, here, and with the online challenge closed, there's very little experimentation possible. It's certainly not been delayed, in my experience. I can only suggest you get your hands on some more artefacts, and place them in offline ecosystems. Even if you're pretty sure, you might still be wrong... and even if you're right, you still need to do that for the trophy.

As an alternate possibility, if you used them as your primary resources, it might be that replacing an artefact with an artefact of the same type before letting it run out might not count as a new artefact.

In any case, it is clearly not counting some of them on some level. If you could count how many you need to add before the trophy pops, and how many you used outside the challenge, so that I might draw some conclusions from this, that would appreciated.

I don't have the exact figures, but at some point in time I had 9 artifacts tokens, which I've been using here and there, a couple of days ago I bought 3 of them and used them in the online challange. As I have one token left, I assume I used 11 artifacts.

That's why I say that I used more than 10, but I'll try to buy a few of them and use them. But I'm pretty sure that either they don't count on online challenges, or the usage count was reset on the last update.

I'll let you know when/if it pops.

Thanks.

Well, it does seem like that's the case. Sadly, it's very, very hard to confirm. Personally, I'd need another Vita, weeks to get the artefacts necessary, and potentially even longer for another online challenge.

Really, I'll have to trust you on this, and present it as a warning of a potential issue, rather than a statement of fact.

I actually just got the trophy and it was using the 10th one in a challenge. I know this is not with it being for an ONLINE one but it is confirmed by myself and another friend those that are used in the Free Ecosystem and Challenge ones do count toward the trophy.

Hopefully someone else can figure out if the Online Challenges count as well.
