Blue Orbs/Secret Missions FAQ

Introduction:

Devil May Cry 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Devil May Cry, and now it's back in HD. Unfortunately, the game is nothing compared to its predecessor, removing the brilliant atmosphere and fluid combat for a vast and empty world with spamfest combat. However, it still has its moments. The platinum will require a minimum of 5 Story Mode playthroughs (or 3 if you decide to use the cheats), as well as the several hour endurance race that is Bloody Palace Mode.

Before you start - Cheats:

There are a few cheats available for use in Devil May Cry 2, but unlike DMC1 and 3, the use of cheats does not disable trophies or saving. With this, you can shave off two playthroughs and if you have a PAL version, you can make reaching level 9000 on Bloody Palace Mode much easier. In order to input a cheat, you must have finished Mission 1 on the respective disc, then input the code at the "Press Start Button" menu - you will hear a sound when the cheat registers.

  • Mission Select: :l3:, :r3:, :l1:, :r1:, :l2:, :r2:, :l3:, :r3:
  • Unlock Trish: :l1:+:r2:+:l3:+:r3: (hold for 5-10 seconds)
  • Unlock Must Die costume: :triangle:, :triangle:, :square:, :right:,, :left:,, :l3:, :r3:, :cross:, :circle:

By inputting these three cheats on both Dante's and Lucia's disc, you will unlock not only the rewards affixed to the cheats above, but you may also unlock Hard Mode, Must Die Mode and Bloody Palace Mode, removing the need for two of the playthroughs. This isn't always the case though, read below for more information regarding these cheats.

NOTE: Some members have claimed that inputting these cheats does in fact unlock the other modes, whilst others - myself included - haven't been able to unlock Hard, Must Die or Bloody Palace modes by inputting the cheats. Whether it is due to the disc region like the Infinite DT cheat, or there is another criteria to unlocking them through the cheats, it is currently unknown. I will update this when I know for sure how to unlock the modes with the cheats.

Now for those who have the PAL version of the game, then you're in luck - you'll be able to fly through Bloody Palace Mode (literally) with the Infinite Devil Trigger cheat. To do this, you must select a save file that has completed Normal Mode, Hard Mode or Must Die Mode (indicated by a bronze coin, silver coin or gold coin, respectively), then select it with Trish as the character costume. Then, hold :l1: + :r1: + :l2: + :r2: and select Bloody Palace Mode. Don't let the buttons go until the round starts. If done correctly, you will hear the sound of your DT gauge filling up.

Unfortunately for those with an NTSC version of the game, this Infinite DT cheat does not work, so you will have to go through Bloody Palace Mode the normal way.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Finish Normal Mode with Dante and Lucia

First things first, you need to complete both Dante's and Lucia's scenario on Normal Mode to unlock Hard Mode. Use this as a chance to learn the basics of the characters and their moves, as well as the enemies and their attack patterns. Try and collect as many Blue Orbs and Blue Orb fragments during this, and try and find as many Secret Missions as you can, but this isn't necessary just yet.

During the Dante playthrough, upgrade all the swords you obtain to at least Level 3 for the "Like a Hot Knife Through Butter" trophy, and choose a gun to focus your levelling on, as this will be necessary for the "Arms Race" trophy, though all stats will carry on to further playthroughs with Dante, so you can work towards these at your own pace.

For Lucia's playthrough, upgrade her Arsenals to Level 3 for the "To The Max" trophy, and choose a sword to focus your levelling on, as this will be neccessary for the "Armed and Dangerous" trophy. Like Dante, Lucia's stats will carry across playthroughs, so it isn't paramount that these are done in one playthrough.

If using the cheats, then you will only need to do one Normal Mode playthrough.

Upon completing Step 1, you will earn:

Step 2: Finish Hard Mode with Dante and Lucia

Having finished Normal Mode with both Dante and Lucia, you will have unlocked Hard Mode. Now you must do the same again on Hard Mode to unlock Must Die Mode, the hardest difficulty the game has to offer. If you haven't done so already, collect all the Blue Orbs and Blue Orb fragments, as well as completing up to the 20th Secret Mission for Dante, or 10th Secret Mission for Lucia.

If using the cheats, then you will only need to do one Hard Mode playthrough.

Upon completing Step 2, you will earn:

Step 3: Finish Must Die Mode

If you want to save yourself a playthrough, then you should do Must Die Mode with Trish. She is probably the best character to use for Story Mode, due to all her equipment being fully upgraded from the start, plus her skills are probably the most well rounded of the three characters.

Must Die Mode is the hardest of the difficulties available in Devil May Cry 2. Enemies will be a lot more vicious, deal more damage, and just generally be more of a nuisance. The biggest change in MDM is that enemies can enter Devil Trigger mode, rivalling even the strength of a DT'd Dante, Lucia or Trish. Be careful around DT'd enemies, as they will hit harder, take less damage, and worst of all, will no longer suffer knockback from attacks - this means they can attack through your combos.

Always make sure to have a healthy supply of Green Stars and Devil Stars, as well as a Golden Orb for the boss encounters.

NOTE: If you choose to do Must Die Mode using Trish on Lucia's scenario, you may want to consider either using Lucia, or using Trish in Dante's scenario, as Tateobesu in Mission 7 can be very tedious and difficult to beat using Trish. Refer to "Deep One" for more information.

Upon completing Step 3, you will earn:

(G)

Every Tongue Will Confess

Step 4: Finish the game on any difficulty with Trish

If you used Trish to finish Must Die Mode, then you can skip this step. If not however, you will need to complete the game with Trish on any difficulty. To make things easy for yourself, play Normal Mode, as by this stage, you should be able to rush through either story scenario will ease.

Upon completing Step 4, you will earn:

(S)

Barehand Beauty

Step 5: Reach Level 9000 on Bloody Palace Mode

I recommend saving Bloody Palace Mode for last, as this will allow you not only to learn the mechanics of the game and the characters, but you should also have well upgraded gear for at least one character.

Bloody Palace Mode will be more tedious than difficult, with a 9000 level session taking anywhere between 3-6 hours for an average gamer, depending on character and technique. You will want to have at the very least 10 Green Star L., 10 Devil Star L., and a Golden Orb, along with as many other items as possible. Having a fully upgraded sword and a few fully upgraded guns or arsenals will also be of great help for this.

Using the Infinite DT cheat on the PAL version, you won't need any items whatsoever, and it will only take you roughly 30-45 minutes to pass 9000 levels.

Upon completing Step 5, you will earn:

(B)

First Blood

(S)
Blood Letting

(G)
Over 9000!

Step 6: Clean Up

You shouldn't need this step, but if you haven't got enough Red Orbs by this stage to upgrade your gear far enough, or missed a collectible trophy, then Mission Select is your friend. Just choose whatever mission is applicable for the trophy that you're missing and finish 'er up!

If not earned during earlier steps, upon completing Step 6 you will earn:

Unlock all trophies

Congratulations! You've endured what is quite possibly the worst Devil May Cry game to date, and achieved the highest honour - platinum!

Story Mode Trophies:

Finish the game on Normal Mode with any character

Compared to Devil May Cry 1 and 3, Devil May Cry 2 is a cakewalk. No real advice for this, just try and get all the weapons and as many of the Blue Orbs as you can, as it will be beneficial in further difficulties.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1224/D0A.jpg Every Head Will Bow (S)

Finish the game on Hard Mode with any character

To unlock Hard Mode, you must finish both Dante's and Lucia's scenario on Normal Mode. Hard Mode is comparable to DMC1's Normal Mode - it offers a challenge that newcomers might find overwhelming, but with a little bit of practice and knowledge, anyone can overcome it. If you haven't done so already, collect all the Blue Orbs - from Secret Missions, finding them throughout the Story Missions, and purchasing them - and buy the Purple Orbs. The more health and devil gauge you have, the better. Also, try and upgrade at least two swords and two guns or arsenals to Level 3, and if you can Level 5 for the swords. The stronger your weaponry, the faster the bosses will fall, therefore the easier it'll be for you.

If you need Red Orbs, then you can farm them easily on Mission 13 on Dante's scenario or Mission 9 on Lucia's scenario.

Finish the game on Must Die Mode with any character

To unlock Must Die Mode, you must finish both Dante's and Lucia's scenario on Hard Mode. For the bosses, I recommend always having a healthy supply of Green Stars and Demon Stars of both sizes, and if possible, a Golden Orb. Having a Golden Orb will make boss fights considerably easier, as it will give you a second chance without having to start from scratch - which is a blessing if you die when the boss is in the red.

One of the most noticeable differences from Normal Mode and Hard Mode to Must Die Mode is the fact that enemies can go into a Devil Trigger state like you, and when they're DT'd their attack power sky-rockets, as does their health and defensive abilities. Due to this, I recommend always focusing on the stronger enemies first, as if you clear out the weak enemies only to have a pack of DT'd powerhouses coming for you, chances are you won't get far. Use whatever weaponry that is well upgraded, and focus on the powerful weaponry moreso than the agile weaponry.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1224/25D.jpg Barehand Beauty (S)

Finish the game on any difficulty with Trish

To unlock Trish, you must finish Dante's scenario on Hard Mode. If you decide to follow the Road Map and do your Must Die Mode playthrough using Trish, you'll save yourself an extra playthrough, though it isn't too much hassle to do a sixth playthrough, as it will only add 2-3 hours to your game time.

For those who were fans of the first Devil May Cry, then you will love Trish as a character. Her moveset is the same as that of Dante's from DMC1, plus her equipment is fully upgraded from the moment you start.

Defeat Tartarussian

Story-related. Cannot be missed. You will encounter Tartarussian on Mission 2 on Lucia's scenario.

See the below spoilers for boss tactics:

[spoiler=Tartarussian]Get in close and start hacking away, dodging everytime you see him make a move. When he starts spinning his wrecking balls in the air, get back and just attack from a distance. Devil Trigger whenever you get a chance and just attack with your swords - Lucia's ranged attacks in DT are pretty useless.

Defeat Orangguerra

Story-related. Cannot be missed. You will encounter Orangguerra on Mission 3 on Dante's scenario and Mission 4 on Lucia's scenario.

See the below spoilers for boss tactics:

[spoiler=Orangguerra]This guy doesn't pose much of a threat at all. Get up close and personal and hack away at him. Whenever you see him put him arms out as if to bearhug you, dodge sideways. If you see him lift his arms in the air ready to slam you into the ground, just backwards out of his range. After every attack, just jump back in and continue pummelling. Don't even bother with the Puia, as they don't pose enough of a threat to focus on them. This tactic applies to all characters.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1224/4B0.jpg No Joke (B)

Defeat Jokatgulm

Story-related. Cannot be missed. You will encounter Jokatgulm on Mission 4 on Dante's scenario and Mission 3 on Lucia's scenario.

See the below spoilers for boss tactics:

[spoiler=Jokatgulm]Whether you're playing as Dante, Lucia or Trish, the tactic doesn't vary for this guy. Use a fast ranged weapon to attack the tentacles, jumping every time they swipe at you. When you destroy a tentacle, the purple fog around the head will fade - this is your opportunity to get in close and deal damage. DT and start wailing with your swords. Eventually, the head will cast the fog again and put up a shield, sending you back, before restoring the defeated tentacles again. Destroy again, attack head, repeat.

Defeat Nefasturris

Story-related. Cannot be missed. You will encounter Nefasturris on Mission 6 on Dante's scenario.

See the below spoilers for boss tactics:

[spoiler=Nefasturris]This boss has three forms - Nefasturris, Nefasvermis and Nefascapitis.

For Nefasturris, his main attack is a white beam he shoots from his mouth that strafes the screen. For this, simply jump over the beam and shoot him. It will also fire groups of white lasers at you, easily dodged by rolling out of the way. Mostly focus on using your guns for this, as it is rarely worth getting close enough to strike with your sword.

For Nefasvermis - which are the appendages of Nefasturris - it will mostly throw debris and swipe its arms at you. Best tactic is to strafe around him whilst shooting, dodging the debris and jumping its swipes when it attacks.

Lastly, there's Nefascapitis. You will fight it after reducing Nefasturris' health bar to zero. It is the head of Nefasturris and mostly has two attacks - white lasers that it will shoot five times when it is on the ground, and white electric balls that it will fire when it's airborne. Dodge around it when it fires either of these attacks at you and strike away at the back or side of the head. Also throws horizontal and vertical lasers at you, which are easily avoided if you jump or dodge with timing.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1224/17E.jpg Deep One (S)

Defeat Tateobesu

Story-related. Cannot be missed. You will encounter Tateobesu on Mission 7 on Lucia's scenario.

See the below spoilers for boss tactics:

[spoiler=Tateobesu]Tateobesu can be a particularly annoying boss to fight, particularly on Must Die Mode. Being underwater, you are restricted to using your swords, Cranky Bomb and Bow Gun, or if you're playing with Trish, Nightmare-Gamma. The boss will spend a lot of his time in a state of "invisibility", where you'll see a faint outline of Tateobesu and be unable to lock on to him. This is the reason why he can be annoying, as trying to manually target him can be very painful.

The best course of action is to swim around avoiding him when he is invisible, and as soon as he shows himself, fire away with either the Bow Gun or Nightmare-Gamma, depending on your character. The swords aren't particularly helpful, due to their slow and restrictive attacks when underwater. If you have a full DT gauge as Lucia, then unload your special attack on him (:square: + :triangle:), as this will take a sizeable chunk off his health.

He is especially annoying on Must Die Mode because he will never show himself. Due to this, you to rely entirely on your manual aiming to hit him. As Lucia, I recommend just using Cranky Bombs from within the roof cavity, and the same for Trish, but with Nightmare Gamma - expect this to take a while though, using Trish's Nightmare Gamma on Must Die Mode, the battle took 40 minutes!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1224/8D1.jpg That's A Big Mother... (B)

Defeat Noctpteran

Story-related. Cannot be missed. You will encounter Noctpteran on Mission 10 on Dante's scenario and Mission 5 on Lucia's scenario.

See the below spoiler for boss tactics:

[spoiler=Noctpteran]Another easy boss. Don't bother using your swords, as Noctpteran remains airborne for the whole fight. Simple use your favourite gun or arsenal and fire away at it. If you have plenty of DT, then use it and spam the ranged attack. For Lucia, using her special move in DT (by pressing :square: and :triangle: simultaneously) whilst airborne will deal massive damage to it.

Once Noctpteran is down, just finish off the Larvae. If they eat you, just wiggle the left analog and your character will tear through the the Larva, killing it.

Defeat Bolverk

Story-related. Cannot be missed. You will encounter Bolverk on Mission 11 on Dante's scenario.

See the below spoiler for boss tactics:

[spoiler=Bolverk]Bolverk is similar to Nelo Angelo from DMC1, but not as daunting. He is a swordsman with many combos, who also has his two spirit wolves aiding him in battle. You can defeat the wolves if you like, but it isn't all that necessary.

For Bolverk himself, sword combo him, and when he tries to combo you, jump over his head and start striking from behind. DT whenever possible, using the DT'd sword combos, as they are more effective than the ranged attacks again Bolverk.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1224/48D.jpg Ball 'n Chain (B)

Defeat Plutonian

Story-related. Cannot be missed. You will encounter Plutonian on Mission 12 on Dante's scenario and Mission 8 on Lucia's scenario.

See the below spoiler for boss tactics:

[spoiler=Plutonian]Plutonian is essentially the same as Tartarussian - his attacks are the exact same, except for the addition of two - blue beams will appear throughout the arena sporadically, starting off dim before intensifying. When the beams are dim, they cannot damage you, but when they intensify, they will hurt you. For these, just jump or dodge from the beam's position when you see them appear near you. The other difference is that Plutonian can summon minions to help him, but they're not worth fighting, as they cause minimal damage.

Other than the avoiding of the blue beams, the strategy is the exact same as it was for Tartarussian - use swords up close, DT when possible, dodge whenever he swings his wrecking balls.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1224/16B.jpg Not Just Any Ordinary Human (B)

Defeat Phantom

Story-related. Cannot be missed. You will encounter Phantom on Mission 14 on Dante's scenario and Mission 10 on Lucia's scenario.

See the below spoiler for boss tactics:

[spoiler=Phantom]If you've played DMC1 before, then chances are you will know a good strategy for defeating Phatnom. With Dante, the easiest methods for taking him down are simply using Stinger (:triangle: + move analog direction Dante is facing) to Phantom's face over and over, watching out for claw swipes and fireballs from the mouth; and Air Hiking before drop-slashing the molten part on his back/tail many times over.

For Lucia, however, it takes a bit more to defeat Phantom. With the lack of an air-drop attack or lunge attack, Lucia will rely on using either arsenals from the air or sword combos to Phantom's face. It's harder to pull out of a sword combo and dodge and attack than it is to dodge after Dante's Stinger, thus making it more likely you'll be hit. Her airborne DT special attack is always helpful here too (:square: + :triangle: simultaneously).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1224/F42.jpg Never Forget a Face (B)

Defeat Trismagia

Story-related. Cannot be missed. You will encounter Trismagia on Mission 16 on Dante's scenario and Mission 12 on Lucia's scenario.

See the below spoilers for boss tactics:

[spoiler=Trismagia]Trismagia has two main forms - 1 head and 3 heads. When it's seperated into 3 heads, use a fast ranged weapon (Ebony & Ivory, Submachine Gun or Throwing Knives) and constantly attack the individual heads, dodging the attacks thrown at you by jumping over or to the side.

When the heads form together into 1 head, use DT and throw all your ranged DT attacks at it. If using Lucia, don't bother with her DT special attacks, as it won't hit as much as her ranged attack, thus doing less damage. This is the best opportunity to deal damage by far, so absolutely save all DT for when Trismagia combines. Watch out though, as the combined heads will launch one powerful attack at you before seperating, so make sure to dodge it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/1224/0C4.jpg Extinguished (B)

Defeat the final boss with either Dante or Lucia

Story-related. Cannot be missed. You will encounter the last boss on Mission 18 for Dante's scenario and Mission 13 for Lucia's scenario.

See the below spoilers for boss tactics:

[spoiler=Extinguished]Dante: For Argosax of Chaos, I recommend just using the Missile Launcher and Submachine Gun to take care of all the bosses from a distance.

  • For Griffon and Jokatgulm, you can get in a position to their left where their attacks won't reach you, but you will still be able to target them with your gun, thus allowing you to attack them without threat whatsoever.

  • For Phantom, just fire your gun of choice into him, and be at the ready to dodge either of his attacks - fireballs, which are visable as he charges it in his mouth, or his fire pillars, which he will does six times whenever he digs his head into the ground.

  • For Furiataurus, just stay as far back as possible while still being able to target him and shoot him repeatedly. He shouldn't hit you with his attacks from there, but dodge between shots (if using Missile Launcher), or constantly jump (using any other gun) to completely avoid damage.

  • For Orangguerra, stay as far back as you can, and be prepared to dodge either 2 or 3 times, as the only attack he will do at this range is his air burst, in either double or triple succession. As soon as you see that he has stopped firing, attack with whichever gun you choose, until he shoots his air burst again. Dodge, rinse, repeat.

  • For Nefasturris, be prepared to jump over his white beam attack, and ready to either dodge or jump through his laser rain attack. Beyond that, it's just as simple as shooting and dodging.

If you decide to use your Devil Trigger, I recommend using it on either Orangguerra or Nefasturris, as they pose the biggest threat, though I recommend you finish the fight with as much Devil Trigger as possible, as it will make the fight with The Despair Embodied considerably easier.

For The Despair Embodied, I once again recommended just keeping your distance and using guns, though this time use something fast, so either Ebony & Ivory or Submachine Gun. All his attacks can be dodged with a simple roll to the left or right, so just shoot away at him and when you see him come towards, you dodge like mad until his attack stops. Shoot, dodge, repeat. Use Devil Trigger whenever you get the chance. It isn't worth trying to get a high in with your sword, as you will rarely get an opportunity to get a hit in amongst his fast and furious strikes.

Lucia: Possessed Arius is a joke, he is essentially The Despair Embodied, but much slower. You'll see his attacks coming long before they hit, so they are very easy to dodge. Pound away at him with sword combos, and DT whenever possible. Using DT'd sword combos can drain his health very quickly. Don't bother with arsenals, as the damage output is minimal.

Arius Argosax is much the opposite of Possessed Arius in that arsenals and ranged DT attacks are far superior than sword attacks. Keep back, spam Throwing Knives, use DT ranged attacks whenever you can, and just jump back to avoid his spitting attack. Very simple.

Pass 9000 levels in Bloody Palace Mode

Upon finishing Normal Mode with both Dante and Lucia, you will unlock Bloody Palace Mode. This is essentially a survival mode, in which you must fight wave upon wave of enemies, with the only way to finish being death. You may think passing 9000 levels in one go is excessive, but it isn't too difficult or strenuous if you have a well-upgraded character, and choose the fastest path during Bloody Palace.

When you start a round of Bloody Palace Mode, you will begin at level 1 with your character of choice, pitted against a wave of enemies. After defeating said wave, you will have an option of three portals to go through - the portal with the red glyph in the middle will take you up 1 level, the portal with the white glyph in the middle will take you up 10 levels, and the last (green glyph) will ascend you 100 levels. Therefore, if you take only the third portal, you will only have to endure through 90 battles, as opposed to the potential 9000. To extend on the levels, every level that is a multiple of 10 (10, 520, 9000, etc) will pit you against one of the bosses of the game instead of standard enemies, so plan accordingly if you intend to take a boss path. However, the fastest route going from level 1 through the 100-level portal will completely avoid bosses for the entire Bloody Palace round.

When it comes to which character to use, I would strongly recommend using Dante - he is the strongest, thus meaning you will most likely complete the 9000 levels considerably faster with him. Trish may be considerably better when it comes to staying safe with her excess of overpowered ranged attacks, but using her Round Trip tactic (which is probably her best method for tackling BP) can take a normal player roughly 5-6 hours to complete, whereas a run with Dante can be done in about 3-4 hours. Lucia is fast, but takes damage too easily, so is only really a viable character for it by using her Arsenals, which like Trish, is slow.

Item-wise, you should have at the very least 10 Green Star L. and 10 Devil Star L., as well as a Golden Orb. However it is still highly recommended you have as many Green Star S. and Devil Star S. as possible.

What seems to be the biggest hurdle for most players in BP Mode are the Goatlings. For Dante and Lucia, they are best handled by just keeping your distance and using ranged attacks. For Trish, they are best handled by keeping close and constantly jumping, following up with a Helm Breaker attack (:triangle:). With correct timing, Trish can avoid practically all Goatling attacks using this method. This Helm Breaker method is also perfectly viable with Dante. Credit goes to Happenstance for this method.

NOTE 1: Bloody Palace Mode can glitch on occasion, resulting in you being unable to continue and having to restart. It seems to occur when you shoot the mages with Dante's Missile Launcher, with the mage glitching into the wall. To avoid this, simply avoid using Dante's Missile Launcher against the mage-type enemies.

NOTE 2: If you're using the Infinite DT cheat through a PAL version, then you can ignore everything written above - it will only take 30-45 minutes holding :square: to do it.

Collect 12 Blue Orb fragments

Glitched.

There has been a report of this trophy glitching, though it could potentially only be for NA versions of the game. Apparently it can glitch if you obtain a Full Blue Orb before collecting 12 Blue Orb fragments.

To avoid the glitch:

  1. Start new game with Dante or Lucia
  2. Collect the fragments and DO NOT collect or buy Full Blue Orb
  3. Dont save or turn off the PS3, quickly continue to the next mission and collect the rest of the fragment 4+4+4 = 12 (make sure you do Secret Mission)

Credit to loner hero for mentioning this glitch and its work-around.

Max out Health Bar with any character

To max out the Health Bar for a character, you must obtain all the available Blue Orbs and Blue Orb fragments. For each character, there are a total of 10 Blue Orbs and 20 Blue Orb fragments, for a total of 15 Blue Orbs.

You can purchase 5 Blue Orbs from the God of Time for a total of 54,000 Red Orbs, but everything else must be found. 5 Blue Orbs and 10 Blue Orb fragments are scattered throughout the missions, whilst the other 10 fragments are obtained from completing Secret Missions. If playing as Dante, you will need to complete 20 Secret Missions to obtain all the fragments. If playing as Lucia, you will need to complete 10 Secret Missions to obtain all the fragments.

For a detailed guide on the location of the Blue Orbs and Blue Orb fragments, please refer to YuriSEAL Prime's Blue Orbs/Secret Missions FAQ. All credit goes to YuriSEAL Prime.

Max out Devil Trigger Gauge with any character

To max out the Devil Trigger gauge for a character, you must obtain all 5 Purple Orbs. Luckily, these can all be purchased from the God of Time for a total of 81,000 Red Orbs. Everything carries across difficulties, so you should get this with relative ease, assuming you're getting a decent amount of Red Orbs.

If you need to farm for Red Orbs, good locations include Missions 8 and 13 for Dante and Mission 9 for Lucia.

Collect all Swords with Dante

Dante has three swords: Rebellion, Vendetta and Merciless.

  • Rebellion: Dante's default sword.
  • Vendetta: Can be found in Mission 7 inside the oil room, which is next to the lava pit
  • Merciless: can be found in two locations - in Mission 11, atop the ceiling spikes that drop down, and in Mission 14, next to one of the four spheres you must trigger to enter the Underworld.

There is actually a fourth sword - Force Edge - which is the default weapon for the DMC1 Dante costume, but it is not necessary for the trophy.

Lucia has four arsenals: Throwing Knives, Darts, Cranky Bombs and Bow Gun.

  • Throwing Knives: Lucia's default arsenal.
  • Darts: Can be found in Mission 2, just above where you receive the Aerial Heart. Destroy the Gargoyle statues to get it.
  • Cranky Bombs: Can be found in Mission 5, inside the large aeroplane.
  • Bow Gun: Can be found in Mission 6, after the Noctpeteran fight. It's underwater, inside a blue cave.

Collect all Devil Hearts with Lucia

There are a total of nine Devil Hearts to collect with Lucia, one of which she begins with.

Ability Hearts:

  • Aerial Heart: Can be found in Mission 2, in the chamber where you fight the Goatlings. Cannot be missed.
  • Aqua Heart: Can be found in Mission 7, inside the second chamber.
  • Quick Heart: Can be found in Mission 8, after completing the Moving Sphere puzzle.

Elemental Hearts:

  • Electro Heart: Can be found in Mission 5, after placing the Evil Heart.
  • Flame Heart: Can be found in Mission 5, just fly to the top of the staircase using Aerial Heart.
  • Frost Heart: Lucia's defeault Devil Heart.

Support Hearts:

  • Chrono Heart: Can be found in Mission 11. Next to the portal, there is a large, white vein in the ground with a yellow pulsating light being emitted from underneath it. Smash enemies into the vein a few times and it will open, giving you access to the Chrono Heart.
  • Healing Heart: Can be found in Mission 3, inside the empty house off the wharf.
  • Offence Heart: Cab be found in Mission 4, inside the tunnel just before the Orangguerra fight. To access it, you must defeat all of the Infestants.

Achieve an S Rank on any Mission with Dante

There are 5 criteria for completing a Mission: Clear Time, Orbs, Stylish Average, Damage and Items Used. To achieve an S Rank on a Mission, you must get 3 S Rank and 2 A Rank, or 4 S Rank and 1 B Rank across the criteria. The criteria are very strict, receiving an S Rank for Stylish Average and Damage will pretty much require all combos finishing with an S rank and taking no damage whatsoever.

Good missions for getting an S Rank with Dante are Mission 1 and Mission 8. For Mission 1, rush through the level, fighting only the compulsory fights, making sure to get an "Showtime!" style in every fight. Take no damage and collect as many Red Orbs as you can, and you should succeed.

For Mission 8, use the Submachine Gun at Level 2 or 3, firing at the boss from a distance. Whenever he uses his fire ring or tornado, simply dodge his attacks to build the style up to "Showtime!" style, then continue firing away. Make sure that you kill him up close, otherwise you'll miss his Red Orb drop and not get an S Rank. Credit goes to Dearn over at X360A for this method.

The criteria are very strict, receiving an S Rank for Stylish Average and Damage will pretty much require all combos finishing with an S rank and taking no damage whatsoever.

The best mission for getting an S Rank with Lucia is Mission 1. Same as with Dante, just take the mandatory fights, avoid all damage and get "Showtime!" styles. Below is a video of Mission 1 S Rank on Must Die Mode, courtesy of evf02d:

Perform an S Rank Combo with Dante

To perform an S Rank Combo, you must get a lot of consecutive hits on the enemies without receiving any damage, or by successfully dodging enemy attacks with :circle:. Dante's guns don't increase the combo, however they do preserve it, so if there are no enemies nearby, you can sporadically shoot a distant enemy while moving closer to it so you can continue attacking with your sword. Dodging with :circle: will preserve the combo, even if you don't dodge an attack, so you can repeatedly dodge towards an enemy to be able to continue your combo. Doing this, you should easily get an S Rank Combo early on.

Perform an S Rank Combo with Lucia

To perform an S Rank Combo, you must get a lot of consecutive hits on the enemies without receiving any damage, or by successfully dodging enemy attacks with :circle:. Same as with Dante, just use your swords to attack all enemies nearby, then use either arsenals or dodging to get within slashing distance of other enemies.

There are three swords for Lucia: Cutlaseer, Klyamoor and Zambak. It will cost 5,000 Red Orbs to upgrade a sword to level 2, and a further 10,000 Red Orbs to upgrade a sword to Level 3, for a total of 15,000 Red Orbs.

Reach Level 3 on all Arsenals with Lucia

There are four arsenals for Lucia: Throwing Knives, Darts, Cranky Bombs and Bow Gun. It will cost 40,000 Red Orbs per arsenal to reach Level 3, except the Bow Gun, which will cost 12,000 Red Orbs to reach Level 3, for a total of 132,000 Red Orbs to reach Level 3 on all of Lucia's Arsenals.

Below is a strategy for farming Red Orbs with Lucia, courtesy of iansanzo.

I'm not sure if somebody already posted this but there's a way to farm red orbs for Lucia.

1. Choose Trish and head to Mission 5

2. After getting the Evil Heart, Go charge your DT gauge in the spiral stairs.

3. Go to the room where you need to place the evil heart BUT, do not go to the door where there is a a blue gem on it. Instead, go back to the previous room which is the Lava area.

4. Upon returning to the lava area, start dodging and get the stylish meter up to Showtime. After that, start firing your guns like crazy. If your shooting the wall, roll keep the stylish meter up then start shooting again.

BE CAREFUL!

I got glitched 2 times already in Bloody Palace mode. Once at level 301 - so no problem, I just started again.

Then ... again on level 4701.... WHAT THE HELL?! I wasted almost 2 hours getting that far and after I killed everyone on the level the portals never showed up. I think it's worth mentioning in the guide that Bloody Palace is freaking glitched.....

I disliked this game before, now I hate it with such pure hatred, I never felt for any game before....

Same thing happened to me on level 4201.

Black screen, I couldn't continue, tough I could access option menu.

I was angry, Bloody Palace is so boring (floors with a lot of wolwes in particular)

I'll test it myself and see if there's a specific reason for it glitching. Will add to guide later.

About the Trish trophy, do I actually have to do all missions with her or I can simply pick the last mission and finish it with her?

Actually you can run through the game if youu dislike the character. Lucia's path is so simple it made me kill only bosses + like ~10 creatures on the way to bosses which is particularly nothing. When you're having problems hitting orbs or switches of some sort hold R2 to get rid of the automatic 'lock-on' feature.

PLUS you may use cheats provided in another thread as they don't disable any trophies.

Regarding your question - I guess you have to complete the entire game.

You have to finish all the missions with her, but they can be any order. However I do recommend doing the Must Die playthrough with Trish if you haven't done so already, as she is just so powerful when it comes to Story Mode.

Apparently there are cheats that'll help without disabling trophies, I'll have to see what they are, as I'm completely unaware of them. May have to add them to the guide.

Beware that the mission 7 boss in Lucia Must Die mode is nearly impossible to beat with Trish. I ended up having to use Lucia for that mission, then having to do another playthrough (on Normal) with Trish to get the Trish trophy. If you're going to do a Must Die playthrough with Trish, it should be Dante's.

Yeah I've mentioned in the road map that it's recommended that if you do Trish and MDM together that it is easier on Dante's scenario. And it isn't impossible, just tedious - I did it in 40 minutes with Trish by just camping in the little crevice in the roof where the door opens after the battle.

Added the cheats section now, so I do believe that's the guide at 100% now.

I have the NTSC/Japan region 3 version.

Does the BP cheat work on that disc?

Tia

I'm not sure, all I've had confirmed so far is that it works for the PAL Region 2, but not the NTSC Region 1. Maybe you can test that yourself when you get to that stage. I'd hazard a guess and say no though.

Thing is i did not like dmc 2 very much...

But if i start it up i will want to get the Plat ofc.

But not to put in 6 hours of slaughtering....

300+ hours in Dark Souls was fun!

I bought the Collection for the first one > best game on the PS2 imo.

But if i go for it i post the result!

Rightio then - however if it doesn't work, using Dante it would only take 3-4 hours, definitely not 6. Just using a maxed Missile Launcher, resorting only to swordplay for Goatlings, the BP Mode can be handled relatively easily.

Apparently, you aren't allowed to post something that help getting the trophies because its cheating! Yet we are in a site dedicated to get those trophies!

How ridiculous is that?!?

What makes you say that? Most things are condoned on the site, the only forms of cheating that aren't condoned are cheating through changing the game file itself or "hacking" the game. Anything that is already in the game, such as the cheats, are condoned as a whole. Sure, some people don't like them, but each to their own.

For S rank, i feel comfortable doing on mission 8, but how do you gain an S grade on orbs for that mission?

I assume you're talking about Dante's Mission 8. In order to get an S Rank for Orbs, you need to defeat the boss with a "Showtime!" style, and pick up his orbs before the mission ends. You only have 1-2 seconds to pick them up, as the mission ends quickly. If you kill him with S and pick up the orbs, you'll get 3000 Red Orbs, which is more than enough to get an Orb S Rank.

With help on getting an S rank with Dante, dodge as the trophy guide says but save your Devil Trigger till the boss has died and use it to run towards his orb drop faster. :)
